Six Stars+ We love the Broken Yolk! The people that work there from the host(s), the wait-people, and the bus-people are extremely warm and attentive. The food is great, the menu offers many delicious choices, and they are helpful when it comes to crafting your meal to your personal taste; without slowing down service. We go there almost every weekend! Hope to see you there! :-)
Food was very good. Crowded but plenty of staff to keep turning tables quickly and efficiently. Clean, good atmosphere, friendly. I great place to go on any day of the week. Prices we not bad, definitely doable. Good dining experience. They have bloody Mary flights, we did not have those but they looked good when they we taking them by to other tables. Some might just go for that reason alone. Overall a good experience. 👍
Tasty trio for bday brunch was amazing!! A sampling of 3: One slice of Tiki Toast, one slice of Crunchy French Toast and one Cinna-Cake.It’s hard to say which is my favorite. The crunch on the French toast was a nice surprise. The cinnamon and drizzled icing was a nice balance for the pancake. Tiki toast was a Hawaiian dream, as the coconut flakes were yum! Can’t go wrong with this one :)
Food is good - portions are generous. crepes are good esp the Nutella and banana (my favorite item). Hamburgers are very good (great for breakfast imho). Wild west burger is their best burger. Tuna melt is their best sandwich. Fiesta burrito is huge, I usually get some extra sour cream on the side. The outside seating is nice but can be alittle windy sometimes so Id bring a light jacket.
This place is such a rip-off,!!!!! terrible seevice smells like a concert outhouse and you stick to the funature., I have no idea how they stay in business... oh yea they price gouge there nieve customers. . With so many actually good breakfast places around like, Mama Kats , the 101, Honeys, Pipes. This place is just plain bad!! You have been warned!
I was with a larger group and the waitress was told was to change to each card, because we were splitting the bill. I was supposed to be charged $11 and was charged $236! When I tried calling, they sent straight to an automated message that said they havent set up voice-mail. What a pain!
I love Broken Yolk and recently came this past Labor Day and qas quickly seated. The service was very friendly and our waitress was very thoughtful as we were dining with two toddlers.I ordered the Sope Benedict. It was flavorful and had just the right amount of heat. I did ask for extra sour cream on the side. The dish was flavorful and I finished the whole thing. Their home potatoes were delicious as well. What I recommend:* Any of their Latin inspired dishes* chicken and waffles* Californian benedict
It seemed a bit off the past few times we have been to this chain. This location was a bit smaller by than the others. The main points were they got one of the four orders wrong and the food they did get right was just warm..not hot. The food warm to cold temp seems to to one of the main points with this chain. The taste was okay, but for the price point I expect better taste.
Great service. Friendly and courteous. Food is prepared as ordered and always delicious. Prices are a little high but get good portions for your money. Atmosphere is nice. Tv always on in any direction. Can be a bit on the noisy side if crowded. Out door dining is available too.
PHENOMENAL BRUNCH SPOT!!! Every single item my group ordered was wonderful. They were some of the best, fluffiest, gluten free pancakes I have ever had. Beware of the bird problem if you sit outside--the people at the table next to us got up to use the bathroom, and the gulls attacked their food and literally ate it all before we could even shoo them away.
I’m writing this as I’m sitting in the restaurant.Let me tell you this place deserves more than 5 stars. The service we received her is beyond exceptional! Highly recommend to eat here. The food was delicious. We’re not from here and had left a restaurant because straight off the bat the service was bad so we left and found this cute place. So happy we did. Great environment. Everything they did they said it was their pleasure. Wait time wasn’t long. I will definitely be coming here again.
The food and service was GREAT. My wife is very picky about her eggs, and they were perfect. Our 7 year old granddaughter is picky about everything and she ate half an adult meal, which is HUGE for her. We had to go back 3 other days so our granddaughter could get the breakfast sandwich, which really was yummy.
By far the worst Broken Yolk Ive been to ever. Barely anyone inside yet takes forever for a waiter to show up but since covid is an issue I understand short staff. Takes forever to take mu order then brings a glass with no straw. I order the steak and eggs medium well but it comes out well done. Eggs and homefries have no taste or flavor. Waiter didnt bring any condiments at all. Food and service trash 👎🏾. The biscuit wouldve been good if there was jam
Ive always enjoyed this spot and was excited to see that they reopened. They did a great job with social distancing protocols which made us feel safe. Every other booth was blocked off and the tables down the middle were all blocked as well. Paper menus, disposable condiment packages, everything was done right. Still awesome food and service too!
My favorite place for breakfast. Very comfortable booths, excellent waitresses and the food is really good. Its not a five star restaurant but its great & only for breakfast and lunch. They have excellent hamburgers and a really good tuna melt for lunch. They do not serve dinner! They make excellent egg dishes of all kinds and their pancakes and waffles are great. They have large televisions on the walls on both sides and a great food bar if you like eating alone and getting in and out quickly. The hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. 7 days a week.
My father and I received pleasant, attentive service here. I was pleased to see a varied menu that I can come back to many times. We chose to be seated indoors but I like that they have outdoor seating. We were seated quickly, given beverage options quickly and our order was taken quickly. My coffee cup was frequently filled (after being asked) and our food came hot to the table. We both enjoyed our selections and look forward to another breakfast at the Broken Yolk.
When I read the reviews, I had high hopes for this place. I was seated quite quickly especially since it was pretty busy. But afterwards the food was mediocre at best. And my server seemed nonexistent . Had to practically be choking on my food before they offered a refill. I recommend not getting the smoothies. There was nothing smooth about it, so Unless you want to be chewing on bits of ice, Id stay clear of it.
My two best friends and I meet here every Friday for our girl-time and the breakfast special for early birds. I am impressed by the attentive and friendly service. Our wonderful waitresses have learned what we like and we can just about say Ill have my regular! The owner, Alex, always says hi when hes there. The breakfast is wonderful, the restaurant clean and bright. We always get the omelets. Food comes out fast and always tasty large portions. The guys doing refills are so attentive and very friendly. Love Cassandra! It seems to be a regular for many people which says a lot. Nice outdoor seating. My one and only issue, because Im a coffee snob, actually we all like good coffee, is with the coffee, which (sorry guys) frankly isnt great. Tastes like a cheaper bulk brand. But hey, theres a Starbucks right next door! If they upgraded the coffee to a higher quality, fresher, more full bodied cup, theyd get a 10 from me! I guess most people have become more discerning about coffee now and they could do better and maybe should. Wont keep us away though! Love The Yolk!!
Nothing deserves 5 stars unless it is off the charts. This is just your basic breakfast place with standard menu. Nothing outrageous. Food is fine and priced well. Service is attentive. Ive noticed this before at other places, but if you order toast, they dont time the toaster well with the food and toast is often just warm, not hot. This is a good go-to place though for a decent breakfast.
There are several Broken Yolk Cafes in the San Diego area. Theyre open for breakfast and lunch. I can only comment on the La Costa location. The food is good and the staff are all very friendly. If you get there before 8:00 am Mon-Fri, you can order from their early bird breakfast menu. This works great for me as the portions and price are the right size for my appetite and budget. Their regular breakfast/lunch menu has a lot of variety with many Southern California inspired options and generous portion sizes.I have to comment that I like their coffee, which is notable as Im typically not a fan of cafe coffee. Theyre good about refilling your coffee while youre there and also offer a complimentary to-go cup as well.
From the first moment you arrive in this place team give you an excellent feeling. Very hospitable waiters, it is a friendly restaurant to pass time with buddies or with your date. heavenly cooking, specialist chief cook and stuff, reasonable cost and excellent service. Warmly recommended.
This was an amazing recommendation by a friend. The plates were HUGE and the price was amazing. My kids loved how much there was to choose from. It was laid back, we didnt feel rushed. Coffee was great as well. I only wish that we had something comparable in Utah for breakfast.
7E3124: We typically enjoy Broken Yolk restaurant at San Marcos. We had occasionally came here for breakfast in the past. We enjoy breakfasts all the time but today we tried lunch options, I thought for lunch their menu was somewhat limited. It was good though. I ordered cheeseburger and my daughter ordered some type of salad.
This morning we ordered Postmates from the Broken Yolk Cafe. We ordered 2 stuffed French toast, 2 banana crepes, California omelette meal and a skillet meal. The hashbrowns were underdone and burnt. The stuffed French toast was stuffed with bananas, butter and whipped cream. The sourdough toast didnt come with butter or jam. We spent a lot of money on very poor tasting food. The only people that got to eat was the crepes.
Good place for brunch. Now serving bloody marys. There is always a wait on the weekends but the line moves quickly or you can sit at the bat without a wait. Very large selection of omelets and the No Name omelet is a favorite. Id choose they have pancakes and waffles too! There is a parking lot but even so it can be difficult finding a space.
Usually food is great, atmosphere is loud so be ready for that. The wait staff is slow and expect you to pay the check before clearing your dish, usually effects my tip as I realize what their wages are. In every location you can make a reservation, la Costa is an hour wait, so dont go hungry.
If I could give less then 1 Star I would.Their customer service and food is absolutely atrocious. We ordered take out for three different plates and every single one of which was wrong. They packed our food upside in the container, gave us the wrong add on we ordered, and biscuits and gravy well unfortunately you barely get any gravy. When I called to ask them about it, I was put on hold two separate times for over 5 min I had to call back again. By the third call they finally told me the manager (Juan) was too busy to speak with me but they would take down my name and number. . . Now they are closed and I still haven’t heard from them. This also isn’t the first time I’ve been here and experienced such poor customer service but it’s most definitely will be my last now.
Not good! Had a seat in front of TV watching Fox (Blues) News, the channel that constantly LIES to We the People. The restaurant is a public place and should have TV shows that reflect fairness, not impartiality. Maybe that is why this restaurant had no customers at lunch time.
Decent place, nice service but the food...whole other story. Watch for the specials or youll order the overpriced off the menu. Potatoes and eggs = great! Biscuits and gravy = chalky gross! The gravy was bland and chalky and the Biscuits were dry. Omelette = YUCK! 1st, they use American Cheese - know that BEFORE you order that stack of ooze! I couldnt even eat it! $13.00 for nothing. 2nd, they stuffed it with onions and bell peppers hardly any ham and that god-awful fake cheese! Disgusting! Id give ONE ⭐but the wait staff (not the hostess, who was not wanting to even hear our plight until I said NOW Please) is their saving grace. The managing waitress was very polite and understanding, helpful and eager to hear our regret, and was more than willing to remove the cost of the entire omelette. KUDOS TO HER! Regardless we wont go back. Thanks for the experience.
Having eaten at as lot of breakfast places around the country, the main thing you want to look for is the freshness in your meal...I know you want that in every meal but you can get away with it during other times of the day at restaurants depending on the cooking prep, but breakfast is special. The freshness of the eggs should pop right out as soon as the first bite is taken. Eggs are not just eggs. Having come from Texas we take pride in our cooking, and the majority of restaurants do as well.
Yummy omelets and good coffee! The servers seem happy to be there, and you can have the potatoes substituted out for some extraordinary fresh fruit. You can sit inside or outside under heaters. It was my first time to this particular venue, and it is really excellent.
Im usually here first thing in the morning, I stop in on Sundays on my way to work. The staff is always friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. I order my meal as takeout and usually have just enough time to run back out to my car and strap my boots on before my food is ready.I recommend there breakfast specials as they are inexpensive and well portioned. Skip the coffee though, theres a Starbucks right next door.
Absolutely Fantastic! The food is so delicious and very consistent. A wonderful local place for breakfast or lunch. Monica, Lauren or any of the other staff take marvelous care of you and make sure your dining experience is a good one. Juan, one of the managers is so nice and makes sure everyone leaves happy. The place is very clean and I highly recommend going and checking it our for yourself!!!
Average food, VERY expensive for breakfast. Let me be more clear. The food was average, meaning it was good enough for breakfast, but the 15 dollars for for 1 cup of coffee and eggs benedict, with a small portion of hash browns is ridiculous! I gave a 3 dollar tip, so breakfast is now 18 bucks!! Go elsewhere!
Never again! I came here based on the reviews and it was not the truth. The service was poor. Our first waitress was running around several tables and completely disregarded my beverage order. Next, our wait time to receive our meal was over a half an hour while other guests received their meal before us when they clearly arrived after we did!The food was yuck and I mean yuck, cool to warm in temperature and on top of that we were charged for food we never received!Dont do it to yourself....go somewhere else!
Thanks be to God! My experience was this: lunch for breakfast! I had a salad yummy vinegar walnut dressing with strawberries and grilled chicken!Ave Maria! Gratia Plena! Our Lady of Guadalupe, triumph and reign! Ever Virgin Most Powerful Triumph! You are Ark of the Covenant!
By far the best place around for breakfast. Ive been to a few BY and at this one more often. Waiting service here is consistantly not very good. Typically go after the rush, seat quickly, food comes fast, but service inbetween is poor (drink refills even when asked are not efficently served). Coffee is distasteful, no raw sugar. Food coming fast is not always good, often chared or greasy. Will continue to visit but stopping for coffee elsewhere first. Great for the price. Always leftovers. Good healthy choices. Everybody is very nice.
I enjoyed eating breakfast with my family at the Broken Yolk Cafe. My kids, a one and three year old, enjoyed their freshly squeezed orange juice. along with their Mickey Mouse pancakes. The portions are a bit large, but being 61 I didnt mind at all. I had the Ham Steak and Eggs with hash-browns.I did notice a sign on the entrance door, challenging anyone to finish a 12 egg omelet .
I ordered a simple bacon with over medium eggs, hashbrowns and rye toast. The bacon was overcooked and greasy, tasted like it had been sitting a while. Ugh.... my over medium eggs - one yolk overcooked and runny whites on the other. This is the 2nd time Ive gone to breakfast by myself there and the 2nd time my breakfast has been crappy... Lesson here? Dont eat breakfast alone😂
This was my first time eating at a Broken Yolk Cafe and I must say that I am very dissapointed with the quality of food. I was actually headed to the Starbucks next door to get some work done and thought I could get a better breakfast at the Broken Yolk. I ordered the Biscuits and gravy and substituted eggs for the bacon and fruit for the hash browns. I was happy that I could get a side of fruit instead of the hash browns so that was positive. Unfortunately the fruit wasnt fresh and my strawberry was moldy...Yuck! They gave me a very generous serving of eggs so that is another positive. But the biscuit was homemade and looked like a 5th grader made it in Home Ec class. It was very dense and the dough was not cooked all the way through. The gravy was also homemade and I didnt care for it but it wasnt horrible. So despite not eating my food, my server disregarded my obvious displeasure with my meal and handed me the check without asking how my uneaten food was. I will go ahead and pay but will return the favor with this review and warn others of my experience. It is rare for me not to leave a tip but $9 later I still need to go to Starbucks and get something to eat and my server could have fixed this situation before I sat here for 20 minutes and wrote this review.

2022-06-11I went to the restaurant about 9 am on Sunday hoping to get in before the brunch rush. I was seated right away. Food was good. I had fresh fruit with my order and it was delicious. Eggs were a bit undercooked, but poached eggs are difficult to get just right. Staff was friendly. They have an extensive menu with many customizable options. Something for everyone. They also serve a variety of mimosas.

2022-05-05Truly exceptional, I am from out of town and when I say I am from out of town I am from New York City. This is some of the Best Breakfast I’ve had in a long time. I work for one of the best companies in the world when it comes to customer service, service and food and they hit everything 10/10. If you are ever in Carlsbad please and I mean please stop at The Broken Yolk you will not be disappointed.

2022-03-17Really bad experience. The server wasn’t attentive or friendly, I tried to order 2 of the chicken and waffles Benedict but Silvino brought the wrong order and I told him the chicken was dry what I pointed to on the menu wasn’t the same thing. and he was supposed to substitute it for eggs and then that was even worse I attached pictures. he still charged me for everything and the host was trying to help me correct it but he was acting busy and walking away from her when it wasn’t busy at all.

2019-06-14I must say, everything was really good. The pancakes were the perfect thickness - not too thick, not too thin. Syrup was good. The scrambled eggs were great. I had the home fries, which were quite unique - sort of scalloped? - but good nonetheless. The coffee was just so so.Large dining area with comfortable booths and an outdoor patio. A bit loud - lots of children. Our server was wonderful. The wife says she still prefers IHOP :).

2022-07-17Had to return 4 times until they got it right.. fast and unattativect Expensive and rushed. Not hot sticky floors and dirty booth and table very dissatisfied.Cold toast and sogy potatoes....do not recommend. No quality...bad .....felt like a cafeteria...but worse..Not returning..
