Lovely place but latte tasted a little bit light. I wish the espresso is stronger. But it has a great chill vibe and the barista was super friendly. I dont know other local coffee shop in the town so if you want to try something other than Starbucks Id recommend this place.
I absolutely love coffee shops. My coffee needs are very basic: a real mug, a fresh medium or dark roast (black please) and an occasional baked good or breakfast sandwich. Black Sheep gets perfect scores on all counts. Plus their sitting area is comfortable and quiet. What a great place to chill while visiting lovely Bishop, CA!
Weve reviewed Back Sheep before & our last visit was even better. While the food is great & worth a visit, what really stands out are the espresso products. Black Sheep Coffee has the best espresso drinks weve found in five states. Well easily drive 100 miles out of our way to breakfast here.
Their coffee is actually kinda bad, and their breakfast stuff is a bit pricey. That all being said, it’s probably the best place to get coffee and use the restroom in the morning. It’s locally owned, and not pretentious.I’d pick Black Sheep over looney bean 110% of the time.
Local hub with a lot to offer and a lot of potential. High quality coffee, wonderful team of staff, community events, and great menu. One problem I see is that the volume of customers frequently outmatches number of staff, resulting in unnecessarily long wait times and heightened stress levels for customers and staff. A few tweaks, including adding staff, could result in a smoother operation and take Black Sheep to the next level where it deserves to be. Thank you BCR for all you do!
There is absolutely no need for management toyell at customers who make honest mistakes and take a beverage that is not theirs. If it is a busy morning, begin calling out names instead of drink orders. Many people order the same drink and this will help sort through the confusion. Apologize to both customers for the mix up and dont accuse one for stealing mugs and drinks. The absolute worst customer service I have observed and experienced.
Coffee and espresso is really good they know how to pull a shot! Pastries and food are awesome but you never know what they have to offer till you walk inside as selections change regularly. Service can be slow but this isnt the Quicky Mart. I make Black Sheep a must go to stop whenever I travel through Bishop on the 395!
The coffee and service are excellent - very cheerful server at the counter. Worth a visit, including to view the avant-garde art. There was a slight off-smell, which we learned later was caused by someone inadvertently turning on the un-serviced (and un-needed) evaporative cooler
Was visiting Bishop for a Geology field trip and Im extremely pleased I discovered this coffee at the place I was staying!I later ordered some online-they were extremely rapid in sending it and the product itself is amazing. I take it black but its sooo smooth and agrees with my body completely, while getting me wired as hell. It seems have much less of acidy taste that most mainstream coffee has. Thank you so much to these guys for EXISTING, I will definitely be ordering this stuff to my college dorm in Portland for the indefinite future. Bless you people.
I visited this place over a year ago when I was in bishop for my wedding and it is still the café that I use to judge all other cafés. Absolutely incredible. I don’t live here but it makes me wish that I did. Excellent customer service, coffee, and food. I wish that I would have bought a t-shirt when I was there!
8a.m. on a Thursday. The BEST cup of coffee I EVER remember: lingering full rich flavor, no bitterness. The quiche was warm and moist, a blend of creative culinary inspirations. The atmosphere was festive with locals and globals eating, chatting, viewing art work, journaling, reading...some of us even broke into song and laughter was prevalent. The patio, where there was joyful canine admiration, was cool with colorful shade umbrellas. Ample parking in the shade, and cycle parking. Recycling. Black Sheep is a gathering place for introspection, innovation, creativity, critical thought, and communication. We have so much to be grateful for with this business in our community. Happy hour with brew on tap or bottle, non alcoholic hydration, yummy menu stuff like burritos, bagels, pastries, and soup, plus... open mike!! Go out of your way to experience the extraordinary!!
Five star for the quick and convent breakfast burritos! Ate one on the way into mammoth and stopped again on the way out. They’re ready to grab burritos which I’m not usually game for but when Road tripping it was best. Are lattes were frothed to profection. well deffinitly be making this a routine pit stop every time we are trekking up to the mountain. Also the have a large parking lot...bonus points
Good coffee and lovely fresh baked goods from local small batch producers. Clean design with a cozy feel. Wifi. Friendly exchange without being too dominated by chit chatty nare do wells. In otherwords, good place to focus, while still harboring the soul and serendipity of a community junction for folks to meet and share info.
The coffee is superb at Black Sheep especially because they roast the beans themselves and their speciality drinks are worth the visit alone like the Dirty Hippy which is a Chai Tea latte made soy milk and a shot. Additionally, the shop has a nice feel to it and attracts Eastern Sierra Adventurers. However, two stars deducted for the service not being warm nor inclusive. The establishment is very clickish and even being from Bishop, there is a tendency to feel like an outsider. While I have been a big fan of their coffee since 2006 when they were behind Spellbinders, I cant support the culture.
Walked in to barrista complaining about work load. Got the youre a slight inconvenience vibe which is a bad response to someone trying to relate to your struggle. Good coffee not great - probably the brewing at fault which was a pour over dump of full quantity then walked away - no stir, no pulse etc. Coffee good enough to warrant a return but service bad enough to warrant never returning and this review. Sorry guys coffee is competitive you have to have more than a good roast.
Creepy people that dont introduce themselves, been to coffee plantations in Central America, they usually introduce themselves and service is much better! I will never go there again! It is funny the day before I was talking to a couple from Netherlands about people from San Francisco being here, the guy seemed to be San Fran and had his parade going downtown San Fran,I do not like behavior in my Face keep it in the closet! Thank You!
Worst service in this coffee shop the girl that serves sometimes is really nice but today I at 3:40 pm i had the worst male attitude racist person doing my coffee the only reason I didnt go of on him was because i didnt want to make a scene will never go there again to bad I recommended it

2022-08-01Superb Cafe with great coffee, fresh baked goods, and unique breakfast options like the sweet potato and sausage burrito which was the perfect departure meal before hitting the trail for a week. The store is filled with awesome local art and the patio is cozy. Staff was rad, welcoming, and entire atmosphere on point.

2021-10-01When the barista mesures the portafilter weight on a scale you know youre going to get a great coffee. And we got one of the best. The climbing history on the walls is a nice touch and connects you with the community in Bishop.

2018-01-15Absolutely love this place. I have spent a couple weeks in Bishop and have come here almost every morning. The staff here is excellent - calling out Caitlin, Danny, Raen, and Dallas for being incredibly cordial, professional, and informative. The coffee here is excellent. I highly recommend the panda soup with soy or almond - especially if you are vegan or vegetarian. Make sure to stop by here on your next trip to Bishop and to tip well. Very impressed! Facilities are clean and cozy.

2019-01-11I love this place. The coffee is excellent. The best coffee on US-395, forget Starbucks. I always visit when I travel in this part of California. They have some good food options too. And some amazing art hanging on the walls.

2022-04-03Single source and direct trade coffee, with some emphasis on sustainable farming practices plus they offer ceramic cups instead of single use throw-away cups. Good spot!

2019-07-16Black sheep coffee is an amazing establishment. The staff are compassionate and skilled. My family and I just went through a terrible ordeal where my mom went missing. The staff let us make base camp there, use the WiFi, arrange meetings with the media, and all the while were extremely gracious. Do yourself a favor and visit this establishment. I plan on stopping by every time we drive through town.

2022-01-08This place definitely has the best coffee in town! The selection of food is not as wide as at the competition across the street, but if what youre looking for is an excellent espresso drink, look no further than the Black Sheep.
