I would pay DOUBLE with a different rental company to never do business with Avis again. absolute WORST customer service! Lady was incredibly rude when I came into to pick up my rental. She gave me no information about any of the policies or expectations and then when I called, no one answered. I called the corporate office to get information, waited on hold for 15 minutes before the operator answered and then hung up on me. Additionally, I paid the same amount for a 2 day rental as I did for a 5 day rental with A different company. I HIGHLY recommend you take your business elsewhere.
This is by far, the most AWESOME Avis/Budget place in alllll of San Diego County! They look after you and treat you like family. I’ve been renting from here multiple times and every time it’s been an awesome experience. Cindy, who works here, absolutely ROCKS and is the gal to go to for you next rental!
This site wouldn’t allow me to leave my personal car there “for liability reasons.”The person rudely suggested I could go park it a few blocks down the road and walk back.In addition, their logistics (illogistics?) software will rent you a car even when they don’t have inventory. You’ll count on them and they won’t be able to supply you a car.
Ive rented many vehicles from this location since its close to my house.They are very patient and work with me while I sit in cars to find the one that works best. Im tall and sometimes cannot get the headroom and legroom in some vehicles.A couple weekends ago I mentioned I was going to rent a sports car for a pleasure cruise weekend and asked if there was a way I could pick it up here rather than drive 20 some miles one way to the airport location.. This location doesnt have that class car but they went out of their way and got the sports car I wanted to rent. The bad part was that I forgot to mention that the car couldnt have a sunroof because that lowered the headliner too much which then would contact my head. Unfortunately, the car they brought in did have the sun roof so I ended up having going down to the airport location (which ended up being a bad experience with the sports car they gave me.)As far as taking phone calls? Theres only one person at the counter and often there are a couple of renters in front of the counter so if you call, be patient and they will get to you as soon as they can. I wouldnt have expected a car rental company in sleepy Rancho Bernardo to be so busy but they definitely are.

Worst customer service experience Ive had in a long time. Like other reviewers here have posted, the staff here sucks. I checked out my car on a Friday at about 6pm with intent to return it on Sunday at about the same time. Well, they close at 4pm on Sundays and the person who checked me out did not point this out to me. As a result, they were closed when I went to return the car at 5pm. I had to work today, Monday, and was not able to return the car until my lunch hour. Today, I dealt with Cyndie Hollister, the Agency Operator (franchise owner) who charged me for an entire extra day. The only thing she tried harder to do was to be short and rude with me. She has no understanding of the importance of great customer service.
Overall the lady I spoke with inside the store was nice, but I set a reservation for a vehicle yesterday evening through a third party website. Hotwire to be exact. Hotwire offered a vehicle for around $30. I booked the reservation and received a confirmation. Note that I have done this before so Avis/Budget has my info or at least I would expect them to since I was a returning customer. I drove all the way to the location just to have the lady tell me they do not have a vehicle for me. All I wanted was to rent a car, any at this point. The lady proceeded to tell me they do not have anything and all the cars were taken. She said she tried calling me from the phone number Im guessing hotwire provided, but since its a third party the number provided was not a number at all. My advice anybody making reservations through a third party, call the rental place before you go. Make sure they have a car for you. Waste of my time and money. Not sure if its Aviss fault or hotwire, but neither business came through. Piece of advice for the lady working at Avis. Possibly check your computer system because if you really wanted to contact me, Im sure you could have found my correct phone number on file, especially since I rented a car from your company/location just 2 weeks ago. This was the first time I have encountered a experience like this one. Did you not want to rent me the car because I got a deal and you wanted to make more money off of someone else or was it because your company did not have the proper info on file with hotwire or did you rent out the car to someone else and I was the poor guy who you decided would lose out. Please Avis have the correct info online so you dont waste anybody elses time.
The reviews speak mountains.We always go you Tony at the Poway Avis, and the customer experience is always beyond satisfactory. This woman was Rude, demanded a second credit card, which I never, and when returning she was just as thorny.Save yourself the trip, go somewhere else.
Gabage.cheating.I dont mean the clerk here. But avis is cheating me.I followed ads at website step by step in order to get the 30% discount, but they dont show me if i had get a discount.when i Prepaid the money, avis showed me no discount at all. So i am so anger to call them but i cant get the discount. So i chose cancel my order, and avis charged me $150.No sevice ,no charge, it is so simple rule. But i get no service, but i paid $150. It is not my fault. It is cheating!I had asked for a free cancel so i can get a new order. after about 2 hours telephone , i am so exhaused and canceled .And more, i made a new order, but they charged about $100 more than what i knowed. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE...I rented a car out from the Rancho Bernardo Avis branch (16558 Bernardo Center Drive, San Diego, CA 92128) on April 26. Let me begin by saying that my experience with this Avis branch has been deplorable. The customer service here is astoundingly hostile.I noticed a mile after I drove out that the gas gauge was not full. The gauge was between 3/4 and 7/8. Nonetheless the staff at the time had negligently marked the reading to FullI immediately called in to report but Mark, the customer service person was downright blunt and insisted the gauge was checked at full the previous night.The next day, I went back to return the vehicle and respectfully brought this to the rep Cynthias attention. Right off the bat, she accused me of lying and of doctoring the photo of the odometer that I had taken (with time-stamp). I made it clear to her that due diligence was not carried out. Soon after, she tried to sound apologetic and blamed Avis policy for her oversight and went on this verbal ramble about the branch compelling her to use her own money for gas and what not.The customer service in this branch is non-existent. She was pointblank disrespectful, rude and snotty. It was simply awful dealing with her and I was shocked by her demeanor.I filed a complaint with Avis Car Rental Customer Service with proof of the fuel gauge reading, rental agreement and they promptly responded with an apology, issued me a partial credit and a coupon for future use.
This location is CLOSED! Please update on Google. The 858 number I called is a scam or the workers are plain stupid. His name is Nefi and he told me the rental car in Bernardo Center Drive was ready. But when I got here, the logo sign was taken down and you can see the imprint on the window, the place is empty.

2021-06-03We had a frustrating experience. First, the employee was 25 minutes late arriving in the morning. We had a $50 certificate from a previous fiasco with Avis but she couldnt apply it. We had to call customer service. While waiting, the employee disappeared from the building! She left us in the office alone for 25 minutes. Good thing were honest people and because we had the complete run of the office. She finally showed back up and we got our car. We ended up losing over an hour on our travel. Returning the car was just as bizarre with her...she disappeared again and we had to wait. She needs some help! She also needs to learn about customer service. She never apologized for disappearing...even when I called her out on it.

2021-07-23I am a long term renter ( over 4 years I did mini leases , which was month to month). This last rental experience was the worst Ive ever had with Avis. The manager at the Rancho Bernardo location. I believe the managers name is Delia. She was unprofessional and rude and miscommunicated information to me. I returned my rental within a 24-hour period and she charged me for a 2-day rental. I am levid of this and her behavior and want someone to call me back. I have been trying to reach customer service since Sunday and have yet to speak with someone regarding this.

2021-10-16Last time we rented a car they told us the car was ready, it wasnt and we had to wait 45min for them to clean the car. Today at the same location in rancho Bernardo ca the office was closed and again we had to wait for the manager to return. We will never use avis again

2021-12-21Aweful experience. The car that we got today wasnt clean. The inside was disgusting. The steering wheel was sticky. There are some sticky spots here and there like the cup holders, door handle, etc. And it smelled like someone smoked in the car.

2021-02-23The first week I was charged $313, however if you look at my account it has a pending charge of $388. I extended to have the rental for another week and was charged $355, I had check my account and had a pending charge of $430. I had sent an email telling Avis about my pending charges. My Questions to Avis is why am I being overcharged for two weeks. I have talked to staff on the phone and no one can answer why. They also keep giving me the run around. I have no problem paying what I owe, however I do not like to be overcharged I just want the issue fixed. If no one can fix the issue I will go to the Twitter page and complain. I will also show screenshots of what they said they will charge and what its say on my account to prove that I have a overcharge that is pending.

2019-12-05This is more for the Drop-off Location at LAX: I arrived with my 94-yr-old grandpa and senior mom with a lot of luggage since they were traveling internationally. The moment we got there, two kind men offered to drop us off using the same rental car directly at the airport so that my grandpa and mom would not have to move to the shuttle with so much stuff. I was very touched and relieved as I felt like this was a service offered with such unrequited generosity. The gentleman who drove us also took care of my mom and grandpa in getting them a smart cart for their luggage and making sure they were okay since I was dropped off first at a domestic terminal. Wish I got his name!

2019-12-05Very bad experience.1. When I pick up the car, I was asked to use the same card that I reserve the rental, but the clerk does not know which one I used, so we have to go thorough every card u have.2. I was told that there MIGHT be a $750 fee because I returned at the different location. That location was closed down so I choose to return to this office instead. Clerk failed to give me a certain answer me whether or not there will be fee or not. Feel threatened.The company always blame the system is down or can not do the estimate, but thery ARE the system. Trash.

2022-02-21Staff at Rancho Bernardo are poorly trained and arrogant. Had two experience and both of them are negative.I had to wait for over 30 minutes as the staff had gone for lunch 😥

2014-07-30Unlike other reviewers, Ive had nothing but good experiences here. I rent from this location 4-5 times a year and they always treat me well and are accommodating. Although I do book ahead of time, dont come in with a negative attitude, and realize that the rental car business isnt an exact science. They are 20X better than the Enterprise branch around the corner.

2021-01-10Avis was quick and friendly. The first car they gave me was a little run down, so they upgraded me for free into a nicer vehicle. They take depit card transactions as well vs. a major credit carx.
