The best pet store in all of Humboldt. The Staff are friendly, educated and helpful, the animals they sell are healthy and well cared for. You can see that this is really a business that is run out of genuine care for pets rather than just to make a profit.
Not as many options as Fin and Feather and the staff wasnt as friendly/helpful.
This pet shop has a little bit of Everything.For cats to dogs, birds and fish. The prices pretty decent. I like to buy my aquarium supplies here. And the have a good little selection of aquatic pets and supplies. Good friendly knowledgeableservice.
Terrible customer service. Told me yes to any question I asked, made me buy three different lights, jus to end up returning every single one because none of them were an actual marine light. They obviously are not qualified to do their jobs. Will tell you anything to hurry up and get you out. Absolutely terrible place. Overpriced and unknowledgeable

I placed a order for some bird probiotics. The price was very competitive, I received a follow up email with all the tracking info, they shipped it out the same day, and received my product lightning fast! I live in South Florida so probably will not be visiting the store, but as far as there online business, 5 stars all day long! Great customer service all the way. I needed a Comfy Cone, to prevent my dog from chewing his foot, and was in a hurry to get it. Could not locate one, so had to order online. Shipping was free - didnt have to add to make a minimum, was sent first class, and delivered within a couple of days. Didnt know of them before, but will now look to them for future pet needs! They have an excellent compact yet bountiful section of aquarium fish! A bunch of species Ive been looking for plus ones Ive never hear of. Well labelled with helpful staff. So happy to have an aquarium supply in Arcata again!
First time using this company. I placed an online order and was surprised at how quickly it came (from California to Austin, TX). Everything placed very neat with the products carefully surrounded by bubble wrap in the box with receipt on top. Very pleased, will definitely be making future orders with this company. All the products seem more than reasonably priced as well.

This is a great little store in downtown Arcata, everything from saltwater and freshwater fish to your average small mammals and birds and reptiles. I just wish their staff knew more about the corals they sell, and more variety couldnt hurt either.

I placed an order online, after hours and received a phone call the following day to clarify my order. There was a shortage and the friendly staff wanted to know how I would like to proceed. Ship now or wait to restock and then ship. I shipped now and that is indeed what happened. Priority mail had my items before I had expected them and a refund was in my account before I made if from the phone to the computer.Second to none service and among the cheapest prices I have found anywhere.
A couple times i went in to buy cat treats or litter nobody was at the counter and one time the girl who ended up greeting me was rude. The items on shelves looked dusty and unfortunately i couldnt find a pack of cat treats or litter that didnt have that its been here for too long dirt layer on it.Not just the front package of treats, all of them but 2 were dirty. The cats loved the treats but being a customer in this store sometimes feels like a burden to the employees so i wont be back.
Ordered Optivizor from them. Originally I went on line and ordered small, I decided to call and asked the salesperson for help, I told her my dogs measurements from back of his ear to the top of his nose was 7”. She then suggested the small/medium would be better fit so I went and took her advice. When I received the product it was 10” long. I called And talked to hailey and explained what happened , she then suggested to order toy size and just do an exchange. She emailed me a return label and told me I didn’t have to pay for it. She told me the price difference will be credited to my card as soon as they received and mail the new one. I got an email from them with a credit of $1.40 and being charged another shipping even when I already paid for it when I ordered. I called them and some man answered the phone. I assume he is the owner because he said I lied to hailey because he personally trains his sales people not to guarantee fit so he said he believes his salesperson and that I was lying.he also told me that I most definitely need to pay for the 2 nd shipping fee because it was not the salespersons fault but mine. I’m glad he’s employee friendly and not customer friendly.The doggies that I ordered from them was ok and fit my dog but the quality of it was so bad. Plastic and foam and not worth the money.Definitely not recommending this company.
Bought a parakeet that was supposed to have been hand-raised, as I have had hand-raised in the past from different shops. The bird is extremely skiddish and afraid of any hand nearby, even though I gave it time to acclimate to new surroundings and very calm movements, voice, and unturbulent environment. Still own it and care for it, but whoever raised the birds of the clutch were reaching by calling it hand-raised when given to the shop. Would have had the same temperament of just a regular $25 cage bird.
They start out with one star because I cant go lower than that.They get one more star because they had Guinea pig shampoo, which I desperately needed and didnt want to drive to Eureka for.They dont get a third, fourth or fifth star because they suck. First, I stopped to see what reptiles they had. They have three different-sized bearded dragons housed together. The bigger of the three is almost big enough to attempt eating the smaller of the three.Then I looked around for critter harnesses. They only had a ferret one, the kind that is basically just a rope. I dont like those, and dont want to put one on my Guinea pig.The kid behind the counter asked if I was finding everything okay, I asked about the little harnesses. He directed me toward the ferret one. I said Ive used one, I dont like them. He told me not this one, its an adjustable rope and I got a little peeved. Told him that yes, in fact, that was the type Id used and I did not like it.Then I bought the shampoo and left, and Im not going back. I found a nice little pet supply store on G that I just love.
I only buy things here when Im in a hurry, because they over charge you for literally everything. Big brands, local brands, doesnt matter. For some reason they think its ok to charge more for no reason, anywhere between $.50 to as much as $15.00 more for exactly the same stuff. You dont even notice until you get to the register because the tags are printed in the smallest font possible, or nowhere to be seen. Pretty annoying but sometimes I dont have time to drive to Eureka.
Great spot to get your pet stuff. Product variety, pricing, and staff are all wonderful. Not a lot of alternatives in the area, but honestly no need for it.

My household and I spend so much money here not only on animals from this store, but supplies as well, we could buy online for much cheaper, but we choose to shop at local buisnesss as we find ourselves to be so fortunate because of this community.My cat needs some medication and I walk up exactly 1 minute after they close, theres 3 employees inside and even after i plea my case, I got pushed away.No hearts or love for animals here. Just people to sell you stuff.

I came into Arcata Pet really upset one afternoon. My friend had passed away and the dog, Ralphie, I had given to him was no were to be found. Dan, the general Manager took me in his office and offered me a few tips to try and find Ralphie. He showed me Pet harbor online and no Ralphie. Then he showed me Mirandas Rescue. There he was, my dog Ralphie. I went down to Mirandas the next morning and showed them Ralphies puppy pictures and the obituary of my poor friend. The workers at Mirandas brought Ralphie in the room. He was very wild and hyper until he saw me. Ralphie took a big sigh, walked over to me, and put his big head on my lap. If it wasnt for Dan and his kindness I would have never been reunited with my big ol Ralphie. I will never shop anywhere else but Arcata Pet. Thank you Dan, and the Staff at Arcata Pet. They really care about your pets and you the customer.

2021-09-25I love this pet store! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They carry only the best products so you know whatever you get is going to be quality. My pup was having skin issues and the employee recommended a different protein base and ever since my pup is not breaking out in a rash and itching all the time.The $5 self pet wash station is so convenient and clean. They have a variety of shampoos to use and nice fluffy towels to dry off your furry friend. Definitely the place to shop if you want quality products for your pet and helpful friendly advice.

2021-09-18I just had a horrible experience with them. At 5:58pm I called them and told them I was at the plaza and would be there shortly and really needed to buy cat litter. The person who answered the phone told me he was going to set aside the litter I needed. I told him the brand and the type I wanted, he asked questions and confirmed, then said I’ll see you soon. I got there at 6:01 and the door was locked. Two people were inside and I told them I was the one who called, they ignored me completely even though they could see me. Why would anyone lead a costumer on like that? I got mad because he talked to me on the phone like he was going to wait for me. And honestly, it’s not thar hard to wait for a literal minute for a customer that shops there every single week. I’m not shopping there ever again! Going to give my money to Amazon because they don’t treat me like a fool.

2021-10-26I initially loved this store. But the last few times I’ve gotten fish from them, I’ve had an outbreak of ich. I think I’ll be done buying fish from this business. My fault for not having them inquarantine before I introduce them to my tank. It was all gone, for quite a while, but I brought new fish home, and now I have ich AGAIN.

2021-10-01I wanted to thank the young man Ben who helped me yesterday on deciding what flea product to buy for my dog. He recommended Capshield Maxx. A newer product. In 24 hours I havent seen one flea! Thanks so much Ben for explaining things to me and having excellent customer service.

2021-09-13The store had lots of pet supplies for everything from dogs and cats to lizards, birds and fish. They had great fish, bird and lizard pets in store as well and even a selection of the vibrant fresh water shimp and nano tanks.

2020-09-18A great place to order bird supplies - everything from replacement seed cups to toys to bird supplements. The items are sent out promptly and arrive in perfect condition. Edibles received are well within expiration dates -- at least 2 years. And staff is available to answer questions by phone or email. I feel good about shopping at Arcata Pet Supply for my little angels.
