Be aware there is the causeway to the tracks from the station to consider for your trip. Generally clean, occasionally a stubborn homeless person (but staff was asking her to buy a ticket or leave, they trying). PLEASE Amtrak put a coffee shop or a restaurant open in the morning, it would help so much! Is the sandwich shop ever open?
This place was PITIFUL. For such a busy train route, this station is in DIRE need of a upgrade. When you need a door code from the security guard to use the bathroom speaks volumes. Only have vending machines for refreshments. Passengers get robbed AT the station. A pile of human feces next to outdoor train bench that NEVER got cleaned after sitting there FOUR hours even though reported to cleaning and Amtrak personnel. Disgusting !
I have been on Amtrak many times. This trip from K Falls Oregon to Sacramento was terrible. I was in the last car first seat up front. All bathrooms in our car were inop. So people needed to go to the next car to use facilities. Very noisy all night long. Will not be taking Amtrak again. Ugh!
An amazing ride, an amazing experience! I found this method of travel/commute to be very practical and even relaxing. The seats were very comfortable, designed for the long haul. The cafe train offered a variety of food, snacks, and drinks. A cocktail or a beer; you can actually drink and ride. They even offer Wi-Fi aboard the trains.
The conductor was working solo. In spite of being overwhelmed with a large number of passengers, she helped me on the train and off at my final destination. She also called ahead and had an agent meet me at my stop to assist me. This is something most of the male conductors dont do even when there are two on duty. Hats off to the conductor on duty this pass Sunday on the 743 Sacramento Valley train going to San Jose.
I love the train. If you travel coach it is reasonable but their choice for food for poor people sucks. It is no better than 7-11 and just as expensive. They are also packing them in coach and the staff get surly with coach travellers around mask issues. If you can afford a 1/2 sleeper (about $260) on the coast starlight it is a nicer ride and the food is free and much better. I love the train. I just wish I was wealthier or that Amtrak valued coach customers as much as their sleeper $$$$ customers.
I had thought about renting a car and driving to the Bay Area and I am so glad that I did not do that! From the weather to the congestion and the inability to park around my familys house wouldnt make Christmas so stressful! So I decided to take Amtrak which I have not taken in years and it did not disappoint. It was so easy to let someone else do the driving! The staff as usual were very helpful and professional. As far as the economical and it was just that economical compared to driving with the price of gas and in my case renting a vehicle plus adding toll when you drive to the Bay Area. Thank you Amtrak for the Decades of service that you have supplied to get us across the United States in comfort and safety.
Be very careful about buying your tickets online. My wife and I went on amtrak website and thought we bought round trip train tickets to reno.We left on a train from Suisun to Sacramento, were we found out the rest of our trip would be by Bus to reno and back to Sacramento. We had to cancel our motel reservation that charged us anyway,And amtrak only refunded us 30 dollars. We had to wait 3hrs for a train back to Suisun.Amtrak does not specify BUS TICKET TRAIN TICKET.If we wanted a bus ride we would have went to a greyhound website. What a waste of 220 dollars and our weekend. Thanks alot amtrak.
Im traveling from Sacramento to Chicago. We have a sleeper and it has been an incredible ride so far. If u have never traveled by train cross country U MUST TRY IT at least once. The absolute beauty u witness is unbelievable. America is unreal. The ONLY thing negative is I wish the windows were cleaner. Trying to take pictures is difficult with dirty windows but that is so minor I cant complain about it. The service is out of this world, the train personnel are extremely friendly and helpful. I really cannot say enuff good things about this Amtrak service. I would give them 10 stars if I could. This will not be the last time I travel by train. U should look at the Amtrak book of app and see all the different trips u could take. They have it all and the way they take care of u is 2nd to none. They have excursions all over America to see. Seriously, take my word for it and book a trip, it will be the best trip u will ever take, 4real.
I was going to Seattle on the train since 1963 WORLDS FAIR. (OR 62) LEAVE OAKLAND. AT 9.35 PM THEN. NOW. 50 YEARS LATER. I TAKE THE TRAIN TO SACRAMENTO. FRESNO. BAKERSFIELD BUT NOT THE SAME OF YESTURDAY WHEN EVEN IN COACH PEOPLE CAME DOWN THE AISLES ASKED YOU IF YOU WANT SODA OR A DRINK DIFFERNT ATMOSPHERE THEN. BUT TRAIN IS THE TRAIN WHISTLES AND ALLTHANK YOU AMTRACK.
The staff here was wonderful especially the man who dealt with baggage. He helped people to find transportation and answer all.kinds of concerns. The woman who drove the golf cart from the train to station was also terrific .Friendly and full of great information and tips. Rest rooms very clean.
Totally awesome old classic train station with modern amenities and a cafe I think that its dome shape ceiling with really great classy murals are totally beautiful. There is a rather nice cafe located inside of the station where a very nice man hooked me up with a roast beef sub on the cheap and I was starving lol so that was great. There is excellent security in the building and the staff were mostly friendly and one man in particular was very helpful in assisting me in finding a earlier ride home with a simple ticket exchange. There is probably more I should say and can say but for now at least thats my thoughts on the station
First time that I have been on the Amtrak. I was so excited that it made my trip with my husband so much more enjoyable. The station was very clean and the train was clean as well. I would recommend the Amtrak to anyone . Best ride to a great vacation there and back!👍👍👍👍👍
The bus was OK if little late, the station itself was OK few blocks from old Sacramento, their version of fisherman wharf. And mostly empty mall.If youre stuck with an hour lay over with large packages and no packages check in,the in station sandwich/coffee shopIsnt bad
Finally a train station with specialty seating for sleeper car passengers! Seattle didnt have it when I was last there. Couches, coffee tables, partition wall near the ticket counters. Very simple but worth it. Was able to spread out and relax, even catch an extra forty winks waiting for the next train. Comfy and cozy while still getting to look at that gorgeous ceiling.
I absolutely love riding the train when I need to get around on the west coast. Cheap fare, comfortable even in coach, reasonably priced food and drinks that you can eat in the Cafe or cart around. Slept pretty well in my coach seat (and Im 65 250 lbs). During the day you get to see beautiful landscapes (Oakridge is gorgeous at dusk from the train).Sometimes the stations leave some hygiene desires, but its all safe and clean enough and theres just something nostalgic about catching a train. All aboard!
Terminal doesnt open until 0500, but there is a train at 0510. The tracks are nearly a quarter of a mile walk from the main building. Also, still enforcing mask mandates... With latest CDC guidelines, this will likely extend beyond the current 13SEP21 end of the DOT mandate.
I just needed to get out of town for a few hours after being locked up from March and wanted to breath so I asked my daughter and son in love to join me so we did. I/ we had a really good trip to and from San Francisco just for the day. Some times you just have to breath.
I just like taking the train. The employees have never been overly friendly, and if anything the customer service is average at best. Bathrooms are closed right now and port a potties are outside and sinks w freezing cold spurts of water. But its inexpensive and gets you there pretty quickly. And when u get that one employee who exceeds all your expectations, it almost makes up for the majority lack of.
I traveled on a Saturday morning from Sacramento to Martinez. They made two boarding announcements and a final announcement but the train was not even there. The train was 5 minutes late. I learned my lesson not to sit next to a food cart, because whatever food they heat up smells like high school cafeteria, I couldnt stand that smell. The price is great and it is a much easier commute than driving yourself.
I LOVE traveling by train and this was my first time! Consessions lady was very sweet and funny! My only concern is that the speakers arent loud enough. Had to ask for which stop we were on. Connect to WiFi, copy link, and it will give you the list of following stops.
Its ok. Fairly clean inside. Its big. The staff there not very helpful at all. They are just standing around while people walking around trying to get out for pick up area. Most of the exit and entrance doors are closed off and ghey see people looking around but dont bother to direct anyone only talk to each other. I opened the door to speak to the person that was picking me up and i didnt want to wait outside because it was too hot. So i had door opened for no more thst 30 seconds 🙃 and they are shouting at me CLOSE THE DOOR, instead of getting up to help me find the pick up area. I was there july 11,2020 @ 8pm or so. Staff there really needs to learn manners and be customer oriented. 😷
No WiFi on Long Haul trains !!!Homeless created piles of Trash mile after mile.Seems like rail service could apply for Federal Grant in support of homeless. Rail service vehicles could drop off a Solar Powered dumpster with integrated drinking water/shower that works off of camera analysis of trash collected. Rocks, vegetation, dirt are rejected. An small air blower pressurizes a pipe that the camera looks through to prevent spray cans and liquid tainted trash from making the camera lens dirty.Federal funding would provided partially funded sustained support. Homeless agencies would further provide funds.A railroad mentored non-profit would collect donations for continued support. Memorandums of Understanding directing interactions. All services and equipment would be owned and liability burdened by the Non-profit.Sensor Fusion may increase reliability of detection.Premiums are provided for special interests of the railway; like:1) cell phone pictures of Rail Authority interests (trash, erosion, damage, graffiti...),2) reporting crimes,3) dropping off railway color spray paint to cover graffiti to trusted homeless (picture of its use, not enough to be sold),Types of premiums might be non-perishable food, first aid kits, Census information, Zoom medical services, education and training pathways...
Plan B - my go to option when I miss the bus. However, the customer service could be more customer friendly. Good thing there is the ticket kiosk... could this DIY be the reason for the aloof customer service???Conductors & Conductors assistant are always pleasantly agreeable and readily offer information. The conductors always address regulars and new riders with a familiarity greeting.
They didnt help with my luggage as requested upon ticket purchase, we were stuck (Suisun stn) due to I dont why? Something about the bridge, I think something about the big boat/ship that the conductor briefly mentioned... we were an hr behind schedule which canceled my business I returned early for!!! And they almost drove off while I was gathering my luggage to exit!!! Im disable and had heavy luggage etc, so that was the first train ride that I didnt appreciate.
Pretty good deal. I had an early appointment to get to which required this and an overnight stay. A round trip was fairly inexpensive. I did not go and see the dining car because I only needed an hour of riding there and back. My first train seemed stalled for about 20 minutes and we had to wonder, staring at it, waiting for it to come into the station if our rides were canceled but everything worked out okay and we were on our way.
Majestic restored train station close into city center. Service with Amtrak trains and busses, city trams, good parking, busy place. Large waiting area, luggage check for travelers. BUT absolutely no electrical outlet anywhere in building for travelers (even in the Starbucks!). No wifi in the waiting room.🤔
I recently had neck and spine surgery and I needed to travel to Oakland. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by how great every person was excluding one of the ticket counter clerks (clearly a early morning grouch). Great empathic cart driver and conductor on the train made traveling a bit easier.
The ticket service is friendly, fast, and efficient. The station and all the tunnels under the tracks that lead you to your train boarding area are clean and up to date looking. I just wish there was a more efficient map or something showing the entire train route and all the stops it will go to. The lit up information hubs in the walking tunnels only show the last stop on the screens, and if you missed your original train, your ticket is still good for up to a year but you have to figure out which train is your same route because the train number on your old unused ticket will not match the correct train you will need to catch. I missed my train marked Emeryville but luckily out of all the next available trains I recognised the one marked Oakland. It would make more sense if they just color coded the train routes the way metro rails and subways do on their maps so you just know if you missed the purple route train to just catch the next purple route train. It wouldve cut down on all my first time confusion. The second train I eventually got on had engine and brake problems so we were delayed do to safety, which is fine with me. I prefer to be late and in one piece rather than on time and dead. So my gratitude goes out to the safety inspector. Third train was a charm and finally got to my destination. During my trip I made friendly conversation with a few people and found out that theres an AmTrak app that is very helpful; so next time I guess. Also, if you are going to Emeryville, get your stuff ready to disembark at the previous stop because its only 2 minutes in between and you dont want to miss your stop.
Im really glad that I checked on the train from Hanford to Sacramento and back. Its faster than driving, costs less than half as much, is totally stress free, and I can read, nap, or talk with fellow passengers. The train is never crowded, and the seats are much larger and more comfortable than airline business or economy class.
I have been traveling to Richmond and back to Sacramento. I love taking the train. My only gripe is their app and buying a ticket on the website. The two don’t talk to each other that quickly so just use only the app or make sure you buy your ticket a few hours in advance on the website.
Its a charming ole school atmosphere that travellers can chill out in. Nice Banos , very clean all the way around and Great easy goin Reservationist that keep you on track (so to speak)🤙☄️☮️💘Starbucks Real close outside the Terminal, what more could one ask for? 😁🤔🎢a free ride? Hahaha
I have taken the train many times without any issues, on Friday our train was supposed to leave at 6:26 am but we stood out in the cold for 1 hour 15 min because it was late, the trains are at least a 5 minute walk from the station so going back to station was not an option because you can miss your train, you cant hear announcements from the loading area and the signs were not updated, I got a few text alerts but those were late, the website was not updating either, very frustrating
I’ve always heard it was very scenic to take Amtrak from Sacramento up to Truckee. It’s not dramatically different from what you see from the freeway, but the worst part is the dirty inside of the train and the majority of the people you’re traveling with who have no consideration for their fellow passengers. From the people blasting their stereos and the guy who is passed out but continues to vomit all over himself and the Amtrak staff who seem continuously irritated by the passengers. All I can say is drive yourself.
Took a trip to Seattle from stockton on the way back we stopped in Oregon to take a break when we were getting back on train the conductor started yelling at us at the top of his lungs felt very Humiliated i couldnt belive this was happening never seen this behavior before on a buisness trip this guy was screaming at the top of his lungs
I’m torn on Amtrak. It’s convenient and has a bit of WiFi... but why doesn’t Amtrak drop you in the city? Why do I have to get off in Richmond, hop on Bart, hop on another Bart train (the other broke), to transfer to muni to get home? Honestly, getting home should be easier.
I Come through the station at least every other month, sometimes more. Very clean, nice benches inside and out, bathrooms are always kept clean and sanitized. They took out the vending machines due to COVID and theft problems, so make sure you have snacks and drinks if you have to wait for any amount of time.

2022-04-07Nice and neat station. Staff are friendly. This is the main hub station to go across states or ace amtrak to east. Staff keeps you posted on any delay and train notifications. Parking is right next to the station and will discount to $11 for full day if you show your ticket.

2021-12-11Neat station, some of the staff were a little rude maybe because we were on the last train out and it was late but for the most part pretty nice. Had a separate area for first class with snacks and drinks which was nice.

2021-11-27Amtrak is a safe means of transportation between cities and states. It is characterized by a safe and accurate service. I advise everyone to use it. They also have a cafeteria that serves hot and cold drinks as well as all kinds of sandwiches. The only drawback of this respectable and meticulous company is the high price of travel tickets compared to the price of bus tickets between cities.

2022-04-05It was 11:30 on a Tuesday that my daughter was leaving for Oregon. She loved her trip but I sure am glad I took her to the train. HELLA sketchy people and not One security.

2022-04-02The station has been remodeled and is always clean. Now there is a sandwich shop connected to the station. Also there is a Starbucks next door. The trip was good, but it is starting to become busy again. Be sure to purchase tickets in advance.

2022-03-02They offer food choices, charging outlets, table and individual seating, bathrooms and on boarding luggage storage. This includes WiFi. The stops at the depots are quick to board. They offer e-tickets as well and travel insurance. I enjoy my trips on the train and hope you do too.

2022-04-23We had an awesome first experience on Amtrak. My son my mother and myself went from Martinez California to Colfax California and it was a great experience the whole way through. We even stopped in Sacramento and took a charter bus halfway through which was just as great as the train. Both drivers on the two different charter buses were great drivers
