Best Mexican restaurant in the bay area and Don Pilar makes his own tequila from Mexico. Its family run and the food is awesome a long with all the staff . The bartender Edwardo is off the charts makes the best drinks ever. They have a great outdoor patio and are animal friendly. The menu is awesome and a variety of good stuff to choose from . They also have a great childs menu including ice cream👍😍yummy. My very favorite in the bay area. I would give them 10 stars especially with the great job they are doing during the Covid
We just returned from having dinner at Tres Amigos and still are absolutely shocked at the Total lack of quality of the food and rudeness of the help. We cannot say one good remark about the restaurant. It is Awful and disgusting. Upon departing, I mentioned to an employee in a polite way how disappointed we all were, and he could have cared less. Beware…it is a “rip off joint.”
Good food, and good service. Large portions for what you pay. The queso fondito was good, however note that it is not a sauce like most fonditos Ive had - it was just melted cheese (think of the inside of a quesadilla). Burritos are huge. I was not aware it is not table service - you order at the counter then they bring you the food. Not a deal breaker, just wasnt what I was expecting. Guacamole was REALLY good. All in all, worth the money. I wont make it a destination, but Ill definitely stop in again if Im in the area.
The tequila and margaritas alone are worth the 5 stars. Quaint little place with quick table service serving food that makes you feel good.Free chips and great cocktails are a potent combination. The food was pretty good, but it wasnt the memorable part of the visit. That being said, I look forward to coming back to this great establishment.
You know when the chips are all wonky and a little bit stuck together but extra thick that they are homemade! Nothing better than having to pry those apart dip them into some Super Fresh real avocado guacamole! I had some very fresh chicken soft tacos and my friend has some gigantic enchiladas. The quantity and the quality for both over-the-top. Also, very pleasant staff and easy-going atmosphere. Grateful to have this outdoor option during these troubling times.
Sorry to report, but this local place is not as good as it was in the past. I’ve been here since it opened. Used to be great fresh California-Mexican (in other words not REAL mexican food), but is now not particularly interesting. Local families get dinner here because they’re tired, kids are cranky, and they don’t want to cook. Too much filler of bad refried canned beans. Measly meat portions. Don Pilar, pay attention. Too bad!
Very tasty Mexican food with a relaxed atmosphere. Inexpensive by Portola Valley standards. One of the most interesting things about this place is the Margaritas, which are made from the owners own tequila, along with fresh ingredients. They are fabulous. Highly recommend.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that this is hands down the best restaurant in Portola valley. One of the mainstay restaurants in our town(all other places move around and change ownership) with amigos you know what you are getting. Good quality food that is served quickly. They don’t need special gimmicks or creative advertising to get people to come in. They always have the most visitors just because people love to come.
My favorite restaurant in the palo alto area. Ive brought many friends here, and every single one of them has wanted to come back. While they have all sorts of authentic Mexican, Ive only ever ordered a burrito because they are so good. The burritos are huge and particularly amazing if you order them wet (adds sauce, cheese, and sour cream on top). The free chips and salsa is also much appreciated.
Consistently some of the best Mexican food in the area. Fish tacos are delicious... actually everything weve gotten from here has been good eats. Little details like the grill warmed tortillas, and crispy edges on the carnitas and usually warm staff makes this gem of a restaurant our favorite.
Solid Mexican fare in Portola Valley - its a walk up, order, sit and get served style place with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Good selection of standards from burritos and tacos to soups, salads, and traditional plates. Self serve chips and salsa bar is well appointed, tasty, and always free - I often find it difficult not to compromise my appetite before my main dish arrives!
Talk about fast service. Took the family here after a cold soccer practice and the kids were starving. After about 5 minutes of being seated after ordering our food arrived and the kids couldnt have been happier. The nachos were huge and my daughter devoured them. The Caeser salad was super yummy and my husband enjoyed his burrito. We will be back for sure!!
Good food, but really lousy service. We ordered to-go and were given a number. I asked the guy if theyd check the seating outside when it was ready and he said they would, so we ordered a drink and sat outside waiting. After 30+ minutes I went back in to ask what the status of the order was. The guy taking the orders went to check and it turned out that our order had been boxed and sitting on the counter the whole time. I said to him arent you supposed to notify us when the its ready? and got a laconic yeah, theyre supposed to. I dont know why it didnt happen and a real thems the breaks attitude.Net result was that by the time we got home, the nachos were completely soggy having been sealed in a container left sitting for so long , and everything else was cold and needed microwaving.I can understand a glitch in the process, but I found the not my problem attitude really offputting.Wont be going back.
One of our favorite restaurants to meet/take friends & family. Low key feel while still having the ambiance of a much fancier place. We love to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather while catching up& nibbling on chips & pico. The burritos are large enough for two meals, eat half & take the other half for lunch tomorrow. It has a bar with all the goods, as well.
I absolutely love this place! Found it by accident when I went to visit my friend and her horse in Portola Valley. I was losing weight and didn’t want to spoil it, but agreed to try out this place as it had a million different options. Ordered the ceviche salad and have been in love with it since! A thousand thumbs up! 👍
Hands down the best Mexican place in Portola Valley. This is a place to bring your family on the weekend. The kids have options from chips and salsa to bean and cheese burritos. The flavor profile is something Ive struggled for years as it delivers an arms-length experience from the deep originality of Mexican food. Easy to access and easy to park. Expect many folks wearing snazzy cycling equipment downing margaritas and burritos and looking rather sedentary in spite of their high-tech gear. The owners serve drinks and refill the gigantic chips and salsa bar, which I must say, is excellent.During Cinco de Mayo this place is hoppin. A mariachi band is procured and Corona signs are posted everywhere.
I went to Amigos Grill because of the high reviews, but I was very disappointed. I ordered the Carne Asada (my favorite Mexican food dish) and it was probably the worst Ive ever gotten. It is supposed to be (and was labeled as) a seasoned skirt steak cooked medium, but it was thick, under seasoned and extremely overcooked. The little rice and flavorless beans that accompanied it did not help. My friend ordered the quesadilla, it was essentially just tomatoes wrapped in tortillas... He did not even finish it. All in all I would not recommend to anyone who enjoys Mexican food.
On Sundays in the afternoon the food is good and the margaritas amazing with tequila Don PilarIt is a pleasure for a Mexican to visit a place as traditional and representative as Amigos Grill, the personalized attention and great attitude like that of Pedro who is at the bar and you have to try his margaritas with Don Pilar tequila.

2021-11-22Good Mexican food! Outdoor seating is the best place to enjoy the meal. We started with Ceviche for appetizers and had the Fajita Salad Bowl, Shrimp Fajita, Veggie Burrito for main course. We tried Mango Margarita drink and it was delicious. Nachos and salsa are served for free as in other Mexican restaurants. All the items were good.

2020-09-07Wow, I was impressed with the food. It was delicious and the service was great. I was not a tequila person until I tried theirs. Absolutely great stuff and the margaritas were awesome, finished off with a couple of shots of anejo. Gracias Amigos Grill!!

2022-02-23From the Google reviews, I didn’t realize this place was counter service. For counter service, it was good but seems kind of expensive. The whole place was kind of drafty in the winter. Maybe that was what they were going for in coronavirus times. But, I don’t think I will be going back.

2021-08-20Not very good. My friends tostada had small pieces of dry looking beef, no cheese altho the server said there was some below the beef, and some chopped up lettuce delivered after her dish arrived. Condiments arrived at the table some few minutes after our main dishes, and we had to ask for spoons for them. Chicken mole was OK. A burrito looked unappetizing. Very good but expensive house margaritas.

2021-09-13The food here was pretty good, no complaints. Tried the chicken/beef fajitas, cheese quesadilla, and queso fundido. The queso was the most notable item but the fajitas came with a nice mix and quality of sides (guac, sour cream, etc). The margaritas were tasty (jalapeno and guava) and fun to have so many options. The restaurant got very busy when we came in but the food came out quickly and the margaritas even quicker. They did a great job managing the rush.

2021-05-25Went this past Saturday after the Giants/Dodgers game and Im so glad I stopped by. The food was excellent! I got the Red mole plate special. My wife got the carne en su jugo and we both loved the food. Tasted so homemade & authentic.
