Im a movie goer. If the choice is between staying home or going to the movies, Im already in the theater and AMC is always my choice theater. At this specific theater, I love the multiple ways to get to the theater. To buy tickets, if you dont use the app, is downstairs and then take the escalator or elevator or stairs up to the theater. I do find that the food line is a bit slow but I think thats just because of how many people are ordering and not on the staff. The theaters are always clean and the staff is friendly.
This theater is conveniently located downtown with easy access from most MUNI bus and train lines. I’m a big fan of the IMAX and Dolby theaters which have special visuals and sound systems for a more immersive experience (and a solid deal if you have the A List monthly movie subscription). But even if you don’t do the upgrade, all of the theaters (even the smallest ones!) have stadium seating and reclining chairs. And in the last few years, they’ve started carrying way more indie and foreign films, which has been a great addition. Otherwise, this is a pretty standard AMC — nice enough but nothing special.
I measured the volume in the theatre with a sound meter. It was consistently over 80–85db and as high as 95db in bursts. This kind of volume damages hearing. I complained twice to staff before the volume was turned down, and even then it wasnt turned down much.AMC, please dont damage peoples hearing. Limit volume in theaters to 75db.
Probably my favorite movie theater in the city. If a movie is only playing in select theaters, you can almost always count on it playing at this theater. The seats are very comfortable and altogether the movie-watching experience is great - the screens are big, there is enough incline that you can see the screen well from every seat, and the theaters are great at canceling noise from the theaters next door. The interior design has that awesome retro movie theater feel, but the amenities like the fountain drink stations and the bathrooms are very modern. Food and ticket prices are pretty expensive here, but nothing out of the ordinary for San Francisco movie prices. Finding the theater inside Metreon can be a surprisingly difficult task for first-timers, especially at night, so keep that in mind if its your first time coming to this theater.
This is a confusing and scary place. No one was working the front so you had to figure out how to use the automated machines. At night. In a huge lobby. Then, nobody directed where you go in a three story complex. Once upstairs, the concession stand had one person. No directions where to find the drink dispenser. And when the movie was over, most areas were closed so took us ten minutes to figure out how to get out of the building, which was not the same way as we came in.
The best thing I could say about this theater is the discount Tuesdays if youre a stubs member, and their guest service is outstanding... Couldnt make the movie? no problem, theyll accommodate you. But I totally recommend joining the A-List.... $24 a month and you can see 12 movies including IMAX and Dolby digital. I was able to see $150 worth of Batman (yes, I DO have a life, I just really liked this movie) in IMAX for $24 it is totally worth it. Also good special engagement programming (Raiders of the Lost ark, Ghostbusters, etc).. . But the mandatory 20 minutes of previews is a little much.... And $7 for a soda is ludicrous.
Really big IMAX theater! I saw Birds of Prey here. This place does get packed and the restrooms do get loaded. Im a guy and usually we get in and out. The mens room can have lines here. Be ready. Its a nice spot. Los of resturants and stores near by. Only flaw I can think of is parking is paid and difficult. Also the first couple of rows in IMAX will hurt your neck so sit further away. Enjoy!🎥🎬🍿😊👍
AMC Metreon movie theater is nearly perfect. Large reclining seats, reserved seating, a wide variety of standard, and 3D screen options, soft drinks, water, slurpee, alcoholic beverages, and standard movie theater fare. It is not perfect due to the seemingly indifferent staff, and movie theater food that neither has a wide selection, nor Innovative cuisine, as is the trend in other movie theaters trying to personalize the experience. 16 movie theater available. Clean, gender-specific bathrooms. Wheelchair accessible, with elevator, escalators, and stairs. Nearby garage parking at the Fifth & Mission Garage. $$$ out of $$$$$ with AMC Stubs, and a list memberships (about $15 per year), to avoid service charges, and upgrading size on Coca-Cola, and popcorn options, not to mention a dedicated FasTrak line for concessions, and ticket scanning. Many other goodies available too, making the annual fee worth it. I would recommend AMC Metreon 16 movie theater.
Greate Theater! I highly recommend going to a Real 3D Movie if you have the time and money, also if you dont get sick with motion sickness. The chairs recline all the way and nice privacy. The entrance to the theater is remarkable and archetecticted for a theater experience. I really enjoy being in the moment, and I went to a movie after sunset, and knew by the time im out it would be dark, and being the holiday season it was such an amazing experience, even after the movie. Walked down to the park and saw the waterfalls.TIPS:1. Buy ticket on Atom, or online to save time.2. While you buy ticket online you also reserve your seat ahead of time as well.2. Know what you want to get in terms of food because it is kinda pricey.3. Go to the bathroom ahead of time4. Run down the hall because it feel like an invite to do so.6. Find your Seat that you reserved7. Enjoy the movie!
5 Star for AMC??? Yup. One of the thing they (may have been even before pandemic) have as a service is Private Screening. You pay $350 - $400 to rent a whole theater to yourself (and your friends) I know its a bit expensive, like if you gather 10 of your friends its still $35 a ticket, but its much safer, quieter, and there is no Covid anxiety. Since the pandemic - watching movies at the movie theater was something I really wanted to do, but too scared to do - this service made my dream come true. So thanks AMC.
Best theatre in San Francisco.Pros:Located in one of the best SOMA areaHuge garden behind the theatreGreat restaurants at the ground floorPrivate party with city view on topReserved seatingIMAX and Dolby screensImax screen with around 500 person capacityReclining seats in most screensVariety of Snacks optionsCons:Very crowded on weekends
Some of the few good things I can say is that there is alot of movie theaters between regular to imax. Now, I have been to metron about 5 times and 2 of those times both my seat and my partners recline seat did not work, leaving us very uncomfortable during the whole movie. Once is a fluke but twice is unacceptable. That combined with awful prices of food and drink makes me want to stay away. Here is a tip, if your going to metron, go to the target connected to the movies theater and get snacks and drink. Difference of 8 dollars vs 30 dollars for the same food and drinks.
I love IMAX movies. They really make you feel like you are in the movie. They now have a “ vip” line so you need a special membership if you want to move fast on the line for popcorn. If you get stuck on the nonmember line you’ll wait until ALL THE VIP’s get service which I find to be disrespectful to regular costumers ( out of the 2 cashiers they had , both where taking orders ONLY FROM THEIR VIP LINE , the rest waited aprox 30 minutes to get any attention from them. I would have appreciated if it was one cashier for vips and one for the regular line) . Their popcorn is hit and miss. Sometimes it’s fresh other times it’s old and cold.
DO NOT BUY IMAX TICKETS HERE. The IMAX theaters projector has been broken for a week, yet they still continue to sell IMAX tickets. The image is stretched vertically and is absolutely unwatchable. I will be cancelling my A-List subscription since this theater cant be trusted to provide the best movie-going experience any more.EDIT: Theyve since fixed this, but Im leaving this review up since they had the gall to sell tickets to a theater with a broken projector.
Not anything particularly amazing about this theater (other than the view of the customer lounge area...wow! I felt like I was looking at the Avengers home base!) But they have assigned seating and a Macguffin bar (why are the AMC MacGuffin bars a disaster w sporadic hours and lack of standard bar condiments?) So, what the heck
The Metron is a great place to hang out with friends and family or even by yourself, it has it all in one place, the Lowes theatre with the amazing lMAX screen and the food court on the first floor with several choices for eat and drink and dessert. In addition to it, it has the outdoor area from the Yerba buena garden right next to it, a Target store, a Starbucks and a Chipotle Restaurant. You can easily multitask, run your shopping list, have a great lunch and watch a good movie!😉
It was just alright in my opinion, I have not been to this theater at all. Seats are reserved beforehand so make sure you order tickets online if you really wanna see a movie.I saw John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum and bought tickets an hour before it showed. I was lucky enough to get a seat (in the second to last front seat to the left). The view was obstructed to a rather clumsy angle, in that I could see only certain parts of the screen better than others. I wasnt uncomfortable in the front row with the adjustable seats. My typical experience being front row is having to bend back your head and you dont really have to do that in this scenario at all.
The seats are comfy, the theatres are nice, but there is no organization for the pre-order line. Also they hand out cups for purchased fountain drinks but there were no cup lids available or napkins except over by where people were crowding in line for the consessions outside the theatre area. This a great theatre that needs to be better stocked and organized.
This was my first time visiting this theater. My boyfriend and I were taking a short vacation in SF. We arrived at the mall. On the first floor, they have kiosks, which you can select, buy, and print your movie tickets. It was simple and easy to use. You could see all the available times and seats. We chose to watch Conjuring 3 later that day.We arrived about 30 minutes early. I highly suggest that you use a ride service to get to this location. There is zero available parking around this building. Parking will be a hassle. The actual theater is on the third floor, so we took the elevator. We ordered popcorn and alcoholic drinks at a separate counter. They were running low on many different alcohols. We settled for a wine cooler sangria. It was a bit bitter. It was okay. Very overpriced for the tiny 8oz cup they give you. But all the food and drinks at the theater are overpriced. We presented our ticket to the employee and were told where our movie is being shown. It was kinda hard to get to our seats. There were 2 metal rods blocking the middle of the row in the back. I have no idea why they had a metal rod blocking the row. We climbed over it because we had drinks. I didnt want to trip climbing down and finding another way.The seats were comfortable. You could lean back and lift the arm rest, so you could get closer to your partner. We liked the movie. Good picture and sound. It was easy to find the restroom, which was spacious and clean. One thing that concerned me was that my boyfriend swore he saw a cockroach. Definitely dont leave your bag on the floor.Overall, a good experience with regards to the movie.
I was totally impressed with this cinema house! The place was too big, comfortable to walk in, and quiet. Besides, the staff that would entertain customers were very patient, kind, and nice. It was truly overwhelming that I went to this cinema house. To spent time was worth it and remarkable. Till next time!
Sub-par experience... They didnt adjust the brightness level of the projector. DO NOT GO THERE.I went to see Dune for the second time there as the other theater from an other chain had projector resolution issues and loudness issues with their IMAX.AMC Metreon was the worst place to go see this movie again. The recliner seat in theater 8, G2 was broken, I could not adjust anything it was stuck in a very uncomfortable position. But whatever, thats ok with me.What was not ok was the projector. They didnt do a proper calibration or tuning and every dark scene in the movie was way underexposed... Its like they brought up the contrast without bringing up the brightness. The last scene of the movie happens at dawn, the characters are wearing head scarves. It is critical to the plot to be able to identify the characters. The brightness level of the projector made it impossible to tell who was who as they were big blurbs of black with blue eyes. It killed the experience completely. Same for the scene with the sandworm at the end of the movie, or the attack on Arakis that happens at night. Impossible to see the details as everything was just a black blob.I would have had a better experience watching the movie on my phone than in that theater. If you want to see a move with decent image quality, do not go here, its not worth your money or your time.---Dune (2021) AMC Metreon Theater 8 Seat G2 at 7:15pm on 11/08
I used to love this theater until Monday. I never had issues with bringing in Bolba tea for years. This time the check-in staff insisted that I must finish or throw away the drink before entering. The water fountains in the theater were shut down due to covid. How do I stay hydrated? Maybe its a new way to force people to spend on AMC drinks. I felt disappointed and disrespected.
We went to see Dune there, and while the full-frame IMAX format was absolutely gorgeous and worth the trip, I think the whole experience was far from perfect and disappointing for one of the only two such screens on this coast. Laser speckles were pretty noticeable throughout the projection, some odd square artifacts on the center row of the screen with mismatched luminosity/color, and squeaky seats all around, all of which be fixed by the theater. The soundmix was also way too loud and bass/SFX heavy but thats probably the director and IMAXs fault. AMC ticket system seems also pretty unreliable and the poor staff had to scan our QR code 6 times, the machine saying that the ticket was invalid or had already been scanned before accepting it.
Great location on the 3rd floor of Metreon (tickets are purchased at counters or kiosks on 1st floor) with epic views of downtown SF. Popcorn is delicious as is the case with all AMC theaters. Butter dispensers unusually located outside the cashiers counter, so you can drench to your own satisfaction!
Since this movie theater is in San Francisco, the AMC website promoted the staff would require proof of vaccination for entry. However when we arrived at the entrance, the staff did NOT check or ask us for proof of vaccination. When I volunteered my vaccination card, he said don’t bother. This made me very uneasy. However we really wanted to see No Time to Die so we entered anyways. But I will not be coming back to this theater. They should be fined.
I went to the theater and I was very pleased with their appearance and comfort. Thank you for all your help. In a day and age where good customer service is a phrase that is used frequently, but in reality, rarely occurs, you and your cinema stand as the embodiment of excellent customer service.
I would typically give a 5 star review. Things are great as long as there isn’t a need to ask for assistance. I’m asking for assistance to book a private viewing in Dallas, I was told by the manager to call the Dallas location. When I said I would call with him in front of me, he said that doesn’t matter and he can’t do anything anyway. Never seen a company with a manager who offered no type of support. I have canceled my membership after several years of use. Cinemark was able to assist me and make it happen.
This movie theatre is huge. The screen was huge, the room was huge, the sound was crazy intense (in a good way). The only reason I took a star off was because the first ten minutes of previews there wasnt any sound. We let them know and they were able to fix it pretty quickly.
Amazing imax screen but they have a ton of food options downstairs that make it seem like you can bring them into the movie. We paid $15 for some bubble tea and as we go to get our ticket scanned, a rude employee says they can’t let any outside drinks in the theater because of “COVID” These food stands are in the same building… what do they think they are advertising people to do? Try putting signs saying that you can’t bring the food upstairs so people don’t waste their money like we did. Also, when you purchase a ticket the app warns you that they’ll be checking vaccine cards for entry yet that never happens lol. So for them to say we can’t have “outside” food or drinks in the theater because of “covid” is a complete lie. How is it “outside” food when it’s in the same building? Literally the movie ticket machines are right next to the restaurants lol
God I hate place. I like amc Im a members of Alist.. But lets talk about the rudeness. Ran by teens which dont want to be there. who would like you to know that its plus dirty FYI guess y. I didnt think I would be afraid of getting mugged in a theater be like that. On top of a very shop center along a beautiful park its a shame it not better run.
Comfy. An enjoyable escape on a rainy Saturday. The seats recline nicely so its not very noticeable when youre closer to the screen than you usually prefer. The seats arent heated like some locations, but thats alright as the theater is a comfortable temperature.Staff is friendly and helpful; which, is the opposite of my experience with the online customer support representatives (plural). Fortunately, the people at the theater actually care that you are fairly charged and though the corporate computer system keeps their hands tied they can manage to set things right if you can be a bit flexible yourself.
Cheap, convenient parking (for the city) across the street. This theater is particularly well-liked for me just because they do play limited release movies very consistently. The seats are very comfy, and the actual movie-watching experience is always a great one. Automated kiosks makes entry pretty quick and easy. Expect standard concessions prices unfortunately.
You impressed me much! The staff at the ticket counter smiled at me and greeted politely. I love the fact that they have heated seats and recliners. Additionally, the picture quality was the best and I love the beautiful sound of the movies being featured. What a remarkable experience! Thank you so much!
This theater is seriously awesome! Lots of space, very comfortable chairs, and clean. What I love most about this theater is that we are able to choose and reserve seating. This is incredible helpful, especially when you want to watch a big movie (Black Panther) during its opening weekend. Didnt have to worry about if wed find two open seats together, in a reasonable location in the theater. Awesome theater, thanks!
Good theatre with a good selection of food. Check in is super easy. I bought my tickets online and they texted my tickets to me. I only had to show them a QR code on my phone and I was in. Also the seats are comfy recliner chairs with foot rests so comfort wasnt an issue. My only complaint is that after the movie my back was a little sweaty from the chairs fake leather, but I get it. You make sacrifices for ample seating space and foot rests. Also that material is easier to clean and more hygienic than others so it makes sense.Overall solid theatre. Id use it again when I want to see a movie.
Had a good experience here. More expensive than I was thinking but overall a good experience. Its based in a mall so you can easily go eat or go shopping while you wait for your movie to start. I didnt interact with the staff too much but they were friendly. The theater was clean and the seats were comfy, except I would have liked for the chairs to recline since the IMAX screens are so big.
It’s in a shiny mall near FiDi in SF, so I can’t fairly fault high prices. It’s a little weird that the ticket purchase area by the entrance is unstaffed, at least at times, and you’re in your own with the machines, but they’re pretty user friendly. And matinees are surprisingly inexpensive, even comparing with the Regal in Jack London, Oakland. The seats are the giant, individually adjustable ones, and you can adjust the back and the footrest separately. The temperature was comfortable, not too cold like theaters sometimes are. The screen was big and even non-center seats were okay. The sound was also good, not obnoxiously loud like in some theaters. The theater is a bit tricky to find if you haven’t been before, but it works out, as long as you’re not in too much of a hurry. But there were a solid 22 minutes or so of previews, annoying, but standard for the big chains.
The chairs are impressively comfortable and recline to a great extent! I hope every movie I want to see is offered here! We reserved our tickets through the app and printed them out at the kiosk on the ground level just past the food court. Before the show we stopped and purchased two large sodas and one large popcorn that cost more than one 3D movie ticket. Lol well whats a movie without soda and popcorn. Despite the popularity of this movie place and the location. Its a relatively clean place the staff was cordial and the staff levels were just enough to keep up with the volume of patrons. I definitely plan on returning.
Dolby and IMAX theaters are great. Huge screens, nice seats, great sound.Unfortunately everything else is terrible. Understaffed. Dirty. The soda machines never work and are always out of flavors (which you dont know until after you bought the drink). They serve beer and wine but there is never a bartender there when it is supposed to be open. With new management it could be a great theater!
If you are downtown in San Francisco and looking to catch a good movie then look no further. In all my years of traveling the United States it doesnt get much better than this. As you walk in the Theatre you are greeted with a somewhat unconventional arrangement. Instead of just a boring box office you are delighted by the wonderful smells and visual delight of many decadent restaurants. They make dinner and a movie become all that more inviting. From steak to sushirito and all in between you can even have coffee served by a robotic arm. As you are ready to purchase your tickets you have the option to speak with a employee as normal or use the kiosks which I must say are greatly convenient. Some of which even accept cash. As you make your way to your theatre the layout of the building itself is a visually appeasing adventure. Everything is spick and span squeaky clean. I cant forget the large concession stand on the second floor for all your snacks and beverages. The theatres themselves are clean and smell nice with very comfortable chairs, careful or you might just end up paying to take a nap! Overall the experience they have quilted together is a wonderful time, how one would expect and want a movie experience to be. A pleasure as soon as you walk In the door and it lasts until you walk out! Thank you for reading hopefully you can see me there in the lovely park which is directly outside the Theatre and equally wonderful!
Good theatre, relatively clean. Screen room doesnt smell though the bathrooms do. Seats recline and are comfortable. The popcorn isnt fresh. They bag it and it sits under a heater until you buy it. Ditto with the dogs. Dont know about other food. Only coca cola products. Staff is courteous; some are more engaging than others. Not a bad place to see a film.
Last night I was there for Birds of Prey. It was an amazing movie watching experience with friends after a long time. The seats are so comfy and enough space to walk. The first thing I am very impressed with this AMC Metreon is nothing but IMAX - amazing quality and sound system is top notch. I guess this is gonna be my usual place for movie night.
My favorite theatre in the city. If you are an AMC A-list member, this theatre is the most convenient theater in the city. This theater is giant with 10+ screens, plays a lot of movies at the same time, and plenty of amenities. Nearly all seats recline (super comfortable), the theater is super clean, and snack choices are plentiful. Would never go to any other movie theater in the city if I can help it.
Great theater complex. Very modern, many options for seats, sound systems, and screens. The concession stand portions are large and the popcorn is delicious. However the general poor condition of the streets in the Union Square area is a concern. The street outside is filthy and you may likely be confronted by beggars or otherwise smell urine and human waste. The beggars may insult you and your family if you do not give.Stay safe, suggest to not walk around too much, especially in the evening.
As a visitor this was a really cool experience. The whole area is mostly automated and has assigned seating. There was a robot barista that made my coffee, and then a real person to handle the concessions. Prices werent abnormally high but it wasnt cheap. Seats were comfy and the 3d IMAX was pretty terrific. I would highly recommend this theater.
As good as it gets!Convenient location, comfy seats, and automated ticketing...cant get better than that. Near the food court, Target, and Trader Joes... so you can grab your favorite snacks, food and drinks without breaking the bank at the concessions. All theaters have fully reclining stadium seating, so theres not an obstructed seat in the room. And while its one of my favorites in the City, its also the most convenient...which means its always pretty packed, so plan accordingly!
Had the most wonderful experience on datenight. Went to see Mortal Kombat and it was breath-taking. I WAITED 20 YEARS! to see that Liu Kang Fatality and im telling you as I type this my eyes are getting watery because I am SOOO Greatful for the Movie Theaters, I bought an AMC A List Pass and going to see DemonSlayer today. I love the movie Theaters, AMC ARMY LOVES THE THEATERS!
I went there for the movie Ne Zha with my friends. The theater is spacious, seat is comfortable and has good support for the back and head. The movie is IMAX 3D and I have to say that its quality is fabulous on its big screen. In the center there are also Target and quite a few food and drink stores. It also provides kiosk for self-ticketing. Outstanding experience there.
The theater is great. Lots of screens and ample movies to choose from. It seems as if one or two of the rooms have had a makeover recently and although its not visually stunning on the inside you get the feeling that youre in a big city, which is always fun. The staff seems to smile enough to let you know they enjoy what they do and the Metreon Center is still alive because of this theater. The worse thing about this spot... the guests who come to watch the movies. If they could only learn to turn their cell phones to vibrate and stop texting while theyre watching the movie - its distracting.
Love this theater!! They have the best IMAX 3D screen in the city with the best sound system. The seats are stadium style and could be a bit more comfortable... but all around great spot. Every time Ive been here (which is like 15+ times), its been clean and seamless. Just a heads up: IMAX is like $22 a seat which some people find expensive, and be prepared for slightly overpriced snacks (its normal for California pricing)Overall 5/5
This is a very subjective review, as I am basing this review entirely on my personal visits to the Metreon. Your mileage may vary, please note.I have known the Metreon for decades, and while it offers a variety of entertainment (in my experience, they offer some of the best pictures and sounds when it comes to movies.) I will never forgot the time when I watched Justice League here; it literally blown my mind away. But again, this was a preview held for fans (not open to the general public, except for a handful of seats. I was one of the very few who was lucky enough to have gotten the tickets.), so maybe the sponsors reserved the very best equipment both in terms of picture and sound as perks to us fans.In general, lines were long, and signs and directions were not always clear. The seats were, however, very comfortable, but if you visit the concession stands, the prices were quite high.By the way, the AMC is close to big names like Starbucks and Target, all part of Metreon, so if you were not as impressed as I was with Metreons picture and sound, maybe come here for some household goods or spend an afternoon with some coffee (and hopefully find a quiet corner to yourself).
Went to the premiere of John Wick last night. The theatre was clean very comfortable seating the chair reclined. The theatre was packed. The movie was AMAZING!!!!👏👏👏 I wont ruin it for anyone but l do advise you to go see this action thrilling laughter seat clinching movie its worth it. Keanu Reeves out did his character not one dull moment.
Went to see Solo: A Star Wars Story Pre Release. Wow Very Cool. Large theater. I believe they said 500 seats in just the theater we were in. Even so they moved the crowd in and out in a timely manner. Nice interior most important the employees for some of the nicest and most accommodating people Ive ever met.
I never loved the movie theater because it is easier and more comfy to watch at home. BUT.This movie theater replaced all of their seats with luxury reclining lazyboy chairs and put plenty of space for everyone to walk around you without spilling popcorn! So now, I have a movie pass, and come here all the time! The bathrooms are pretty clean, the service has never been an issue, and they always have the top box office movies playing. What more do you need?
Wow this theater is terrible! Went to get popcorn and the staff was too busy fooling around behind the counter to help right away. They begrudgingly went to the register to get my order after realizing theyre actually there to work. Got to my seat and the theater had not been cleaned at all after the last showing and there was popcorn everywhere and a salad container with bits of salad all around it on the floor (didnt know they sell salad at the movie theater). Terrible experience and Im definitely not going back to this ghetto place.
This is the best theatre in San Francisco hands down. Sure, Alamo Drafthouse has its niche but this place has all the perks and sits above a food court and Target to set you up for any after movie cravings and errands. The seats are heavenly and lay almost all the way back, along with stadium seating and awesome bartenders who make sure to fill your cup with a double shot.
Most screens have luxury recliner seats.$5 Tuesdays is a great deal.Parking is across the street (I couldnt find the parking in the building even though Google suggested that parking is available)They do not validate parking and the garage across the street charges around $9 for 3 hrs.
Im hesitant about the AMC. On one hand, the place has nice seats, decent food, and of course good movies. But one time when I got to the movies early to watch the trailers, I saw something small scurry away as I walked to my seat. If you dont mind a little neighbor as you munch on your popcorn and share your drink with him/her, then this place isnt too bad.
This is probably the largest movie theater in San Francisco and the quality is amazing. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The IMAX room is the real IMAX and the quality is breathtaking, it will elevate your experience from great to epic! They have self checkout machines, but also their short lines are often quick.Unfortunately I cant say the same for the lines for buying popcorn, they always seem to have huge lines and a long wait, if youre planning to catch a movie and popcorn make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before the movie starts.
The staff was extremely polite and professional. The venue was cleaned intensely after every show. Caution as other patrons have nominated themselves as the most important people of the world. Leaving huge mess after the show. Contacted the manager for ticket reimbursement after a kid continued to kick my seat for an hour until he managed to kick me in the head. After alerting the parent 5+times, decided it was time to leave. There werent any empty seats to just move. While waiting to speak to a manager several people just steps in front of me demanding to be taken care of first. The staff remained calm and settled each incident professionally. Recommend attending off hours.
Metreon 16 theater was revamped a bit. The box office itself was downstairs on first floor near the entrance, and the actual theater, with concession stands is upstairs. Concession stand prices are typical $5 hotdogs and $4 softdrinks or stuff like that. Service, on the other hand, was fast, esp. if you did ticket by phone. Scan, and youre done in 10 seconds or less. Seats are nice and wide and comfy if you get the reserved power recliner seats (most theaters have been converted, but not all). Ticket prices... well, if you go matinee prices are tolerable. But full price is like $15 per person. Staff seems friendly enough and place is clean. All in all, enjoyable experience.
Great movie theatre in the center of downtown! Assigned seating with many experiences to choose from (Dolby, IMAX,etc), they even let you bring in your own snacks. It is pricey as many things are in SF and I did see and hear mice conversating on the steps while I was watching a movie which is why I took one star away but I will still go back for the comfort of reclining seats :)
This place is in a central location (near Union Square) - great for visitors and locals alike. The theaters and food purchase is located on the 3rd floor of the Metreon with ticket purchases being on the main floor of the Metreon (near the food court). The theaters were just redone recently and they have comfortable reclining chairs and with the ability to reserve seating! It is typically clean and staff is fairly helpful. The audio in some of the the bigger theaters are ridiculously good (Dolby Atmos!).
I will never return to this theatre. I was in the seating area with a friend and saw a mouse run across the floor. In under 10 minutes I counted 3 different mice. They are NOT afraid of people, one of them came right up to my chair. Do NOT buy food or see a film here. I spent $30 on food. God only knows what was in it.
Not cheap especially for out of country tourism.Food is okay. Definitely movie food and not recommended as a replacement for super.Carpeting and decor are a little tacky for such a nice building to house.Seating is good. Ticket verification line is just a mess of poles and rope.
My favorite, hands down favorite, place to see films. Their massive IMAX is INCREDIBLE, especially in 3D with sound also jaw dropping. I have my UHD curved TV at home, with 7.2 surround, but nothing is better than watching a movie here. Plus theres many great food places in and around the theater for the perfect date.
Looked complicated when first enter. Flow was actually easier than it looked. Simple ways to buy tickets or retrieve online tickets. Great seats, almost went to sleep on Aquaman. Recliner seats. Only missing heat, other than, great setup. You could call it Entertainment Central. Theatre tickets, movie tickets, etc.
Place was great. Theater was clean. The seats were comfortable. For those worrying about parking your car since this place is in the middle of downtown SF. Dont be! Theres a parking garage right across the street! Park your car there, see a movie, and walk around downtown SF.
Surprising comfort. The red leather like seats recline with a foot rest that elevates. Thats a very healthy way to enjoy entertainment while returning fluids to the heart from the feet. Clean, spacious restrooms. Easy access from surface transit as well as the underground railways MUNI and BART. Parking just across the street in a six level garage.
This one has gone little down the drain as far as the service goes. Theyve some free movies every once in a while however the lines are way too long and youve to get there least 2-3hr in advance just to get a spot. I tried that once and after that never again. I buy the tickets about once a month with friends for a good movie. Last time we had to sit next to a homeless man who was stinking. I seriously doubt that he had paid to get in as he came in about 10min after the movie started and slept through the whole thing after chugging some liquor he bought in. He left 10 min before the movie ended. We bought another ticket for another movie and again he was in there same ritual. Few times we tried to get some food from the counter (other than popcorn) and they were out. You can get alcohol there which is nice.
The Meteron is once again, the place to watch movies. All seats are now reserved, and they all feature large, luxurious power reclining leather seats. Choose a pair of seats, and the arm rests go up, to allow lots of snuggling and cuddling during the flicks. Plenty of space for people to walk past, so theres no need to move your feet for them. Yes, its a slight premium than the average movie theater, but it really makes it feel like an experience. Im looking forward to seeing more movies here.
Good theater if you want to indulge in an expensive luxury that is a 3D movie these days. The seats have been upgraded too for lounging, quite comfortable. There used to be more shops and restaurants in the metreon for you to enjoy before and after the movie, though the number of these places seem to have declined over the years.
Great screens and awesome location. Tends to have all the latest and greatest movies. Wish they would add a 4D theater, however.Ive been an AMC Stubs member for quite a while now and signed up for the A-List service immediately once it became available. There has been several occasions when waiting in the A-List line for concessions that the employees signal for customers in the regular lines ahead of me -- even when Ive been there first. I dont make a stink out of it but its pretty faulty behavior when one of the perks is to skip the lines.Another common issue is the soda machines are regularly out of options or the syrup-to-soda-water proportions are way off.Other than those issues, its a great spot and my favorite in the San Francisco area*.*I live very near so am a bit biased in this regard. Alamo Drafthouse would be my go-to if it didnt require an Uber.
Seats are always very clean. Price is a bit higher due to the luxury seating.Book early for evenings and weekends, the metreon gets very busy.Every so often they have fan events and special screenings.I think there’s a weekday when movies are cheaper. Not sure what day that is.
The place is ALWAYS understaffed when you go to buy a ticket. The people working there are always polite and friendly. And they try their best to do a good job.. But it takes to long to buy a ticket or get refreshments. There is usually only one person working and the lines are always long. The place also has great deals sometimes. But being understaffed and having to wait 15-20 minutes to buy a ticket sometimes makes us go to other theaters a lot.
Best movie theater in SF. Love the Metreon since it opened in 2000! Been ups and downs and anyone who remembers the PlayStation store knows all about that(store was awesome but everything else around took a dive)! Now its still a great theater, has many food options in and around, and is much safer then before being downtown. I like it alot....
Nice facilities, but Slow lines, especially at the concession stands. The speaker levels and placement are kind of crappy. equipment is fine tho, just the human factor ruining it. Get some real sound engineers to train the staff, is been years already. The IMAX theater is also not set up correctly. Again audio levels are pretty bad and the distance for the IMAX screen is wrong.. so not really an IMAX setup, just the equipment
Very cool IMAX theater (but WHY does everything have to be 3D though? It would be AWESOME if they had a NOT 3D + IMAX late show or something!), snacks are what you would expect from a chain theater, seats are average, cleanliness is good both in theaters and bathrooms. Crowd is respectful to others.
This is one of my favorite theaters in San Francisco. All of the theaters (except IMAX) have reclining seats. You can watch movies in 2D, real 3D, Dolby, and IMAX here, all with reserve seating. Purchase your tickets early if you are going in a group or you may be stuck with seats in the very front or edges. The actual theater is upstairs on the third floor with the concessions which also sell alcohol. Also previews here last around 15-20 minutes so dont be too stressed out if you are running a little late.Oh also, the current adult ticket price (2018) for a 2D movie in the evening is $15.49 so it is a little steep. If you plan on watching a movie before 12 I think the price is cut in half.
Restaurant choices abound on the first floor of this multi-level complex. The theatre is located on the second level. This location also features full meals available in the movie theatre. Reclining seats and reserved seating make it easy to be comfortable during the show.
Metreon is our favourite cinema theatre in San Francisco for watching ongoing blockbusters. There are many auditoriums with big screen, plenty of space and organised line for food. The best and the biggest auditorium is IMAX, for sure. However, few of the seats are broken - the back of a seat doesnt hold the vertical position, so, visitor feels as hes lying rather than sitting. Many Real3D auditoriums have super convenient seats with different position modes for the back and legs, we really enjoy it. Moreover, there are the physical boundaries between the rows, so, you will no longer feel a kick from a neighbour behind. The crew is helpful and nice to the visitors. Once, we had the ticket collision. Some guys had bought the tickets from Fandango, when wed bought them from AMC during The Avengers rush time. When we came to the auditorium we realised that our seats were occupied by other couple with completely valid tickets. We asked a crew member for help and he gave us 2 available seats at the last row with nice view when the whole auditorium was occupied. He suggested free popcorn and beverages for this inconvenience. Also, I want to share our experience of having memberships of AMC.Weve bought AMC A-list memberships and visit the theatre quite often. Its absolutely worth it - membership costs around 20$ whereas one IMAX ticket costs 17$, but for this price we could watch 3 movies per week. We reimburse our AMC account savings on a popcorn or other food - sometimes we got them completely free of charge.
Stupid layout. You have to leave the theater to get concessions and wait in line to have them check your ticket to get back in. NEVER enough staffing. Went there for a movie marathon and they only had two people at the concession stand even though they knew that the entire IMAX theater would take breaks at the same time! Unfriendly staff and cant be bothered to help a customer. Parking in nearby parking lots. Inadequate security in the building. Our movie let out after midnight and the building had no security and as patrons walked out the street people walked in and started harassing us as we left. The only good thing is the the IMAX theater seating is reserved seats.
Pretty decent. Large reclining chairs, multiple showtimes of new movies, conveniently located in the metreon with tons of cool things nearby whether it be bars, museums, or entertainment for kids. I just find it to be too expensive for the quality most time. Soda machines kinda suck, popcorn can be stale, you always have to reserve seats so its hard to go impromptu.
Place has great seats and great sound. But when i went back to get my free refill of soda i was confronted by the security guard. And he was very mean and very rude. I said i was getting my refill and he told me he wanted to see my ticket stub or he would escort me out. And before I even got to reach in my pocket for it he stepped closer to me and said I wanna see it NOW or I will show you down the stairs. I was actually a little scared of him. I WILL NEVER BE BACK.I tell all my friends to stay away from there how..
I always liked AMC theaters, and this location is a good one. Great big theaters and high quality projectors and sound. You can even get some good deals there: From food discounts, especially with the Movie Watchers card, and $6 movies. Even the staff is nice! Highly recommended if the movie you want to watch is here...
As far as movie theaters go, this place is pretty spectacular. I love that its above a food court (which by the way has a varied selection of food types) so that if you dont wish to rely on movie theater snacks to fill you, you can have that option. The service was really good and helpful although it didnt appear they enjoyed their job haha I loved the picture quality in the different theaters. Overall this place rocks and a must for midnight premieres.
Place can definitely be cleaner. Not sure if I had deflective IMAX 3d glasses when I was last there. But there was a lot of light glare from the side of the glasses that were extremely distracting. Moving from towards the middle to the back helped migrate the problem. Update 9/29 Noticed their Imax screen had 2 greyish spots which was noticeable during bright scenes (white/blue images made it more noticeable), 1 was in the middle on the upper third of the screen, and 1 was on the far right side.
The remodel of this (as part of the larger ongoing Metreon project) was much needed and definitely helped to improve the ambience and navigability of the space. That said, I still prefer the Century Theaters at the top of the mall over this one, as they tend to be a bit less crowded. But, the IMAX at this location is absolutely awesome!
So, I have gathered that a good 90% of people who commented before me are not from SF or even the Bay Area, which I may add is why the prices are so high. But as someone who has been coming here as a child, its a good theater. The IMAX is awesome, the staff are.. ehh like any theater staff like ANYWHERE (so quit hating), and the prices really arent that bad. Love this place. BTW the new reclining seats are awesome..just sayin

2022-05-24This was my first experience at this AMC Theater. I was very pleased to know that they honored my A-List subscription from Vegas. The movie theaters were clean; all of the staff was friendly the popcorn was fresh at the concession stand. And more importantly, I was amazed at the beauty and cleanliness of the Womans Restrom. Pictures are attach. I will certainly be returning to this theater in the near future.

2022-03-31Everything is clean here. It was such a wonderful experience watching Batman in this IMAX Theater. The screen is huge and the seat is very comfortable. I am so envious of people living in San Francisco that they have such a great cinema.

2022-07-03A huge 16-screen AMC, inside of the Metreon center. They’ve got Dolby Audio, IMAX screens, reclining chairs, and so much more!

2022-05-31An AMC in the SF Bay Area with real IMAX, some friends of mine are obsessed with seeing Nolan & great films in IMAX, they make it a point to not go to other IMAXs in the area that advertise IMAX but arent. But Dolby is my favorite format. This one is ease to commute than Bay Street, even though Im coming from the East Bay because its 5 blocks from the Montgomery subway station versus catching the free Emery-Go Round shuttles at the MacArthur station, if you miss one youll wait 15-35 min, better than a 5 block walk which there isnt a wait time. This location is in the downtown, if youre early (which is better since youre seeing a movie) theres a lot to do or food to pick from. The Metreon building of which AMC Metreon is inside has 7 restaurants, vending machine that serves ramen and a milk tea place, Target inside too. Staff can be more engaging, but they do there job, large variety at concessions. On a budget, want to be supportive of the cinema, just buy a (regular) drink anything more and youll may a bit more or twice your ticket. Bathroom, hallway, and auditorium are maintained. IMAX is massive, not my cup of tea, Dolby is where its at. For the flash backs, theyre always digital, the smaller rooms on the right once they scan or take your tickets. Still great. Highly recommend if youre in the SF Bay Area.

2022-03-28You come here for the second largest IMAX screen in the USA and thats about it. The staff are kind of mean and the theaters arent in the best condition. In comparison to say Dublins Regal, this is far lesser experience overall. They have a smaller True Imax screen, but the theater is in way better condition.Experience the giant IMAX screen once (which is amazing), then cut your loses and just go to Dublin.

2021-10-10The best IMAX theater in California. Featuring dual laser projection, movies like Dune, 007 No Time To Die, and Eternals will run in there full 1.43:1 aspect ratio. Worth every dollar of the $17-$23 ticket

2022-01-31They have gone completely self service, which I get but when you need help there really is no one to talk to. Also when we got to our seats four seats next to us including one of our reserved seats the reclining wasnt working. Again no one to really tell and when we told the people they really didnt seem to care. Also tried to get a hot dog but they had sold all out and it takes one hour to get a new batch. Great venue and movie selection but disappointed that COVID has taken away so many services.

2021-08-08AMC is my theater chain of choice, so I had to check out the premiere AMC in San Fransisco when visiting! In typical “big city” theater fashion, it can be a tad bit confusing to figure out how to get up to the theater at night when the mall is closed. Our only disappointment with this AMC is unfortunately the staff - the showtimes on the app didn’t jive with the showtimes displayed and no one could answer our question on when the movie actually started. The concession stand was just as much of a mess with no one paying attention to the A-List line and more people hanging out behind the counter than working. That all being said, once we actually got into the theater the experience was great. Perfect IMAX picture and sound on one of the largest IMAX screens in the country. A clean theater, hallway and restrooms also. Overall a good experience!

2022-02-20Theyre alright, luxury loungers are dope. Their Alist subscription is worth it, concessions is overpriced and the guy at the counter was really rude but the rest of the staff was chill and the bathrooms looked clean. The movie theater itself was not actually clean there was popcorn and trash wedged into the seats and the guy watching a movie next to me sounded sick and had his mask off, no they dont ask for Vaccination proof for concessions but century does and that in itself is peace of mind! Still a good place to go.

2022-05-12I saw the 2022 Dr Strange at third theater, picture and sound quality 5 stars. The only negative was that the seats weren’t the full recliner style, although they were plush and comfortable. The theater’s decor is also very pretty.
