The actual venue is cool. I enjoy the vintage vibe and I love that they serve dinner. It still looks like its under construction to am extent on the inside. It doesnt necessarily look or feel welcoming but I feel like thats a pandemic thing. The biggest drawback of the theater is location. Walking to and from the theater using BART is not pleasant or safe. Im fact, I dont recommend it. Its unenjoyable.
This place has a kitschy aesthetic that feels just right. Theres a great little bar inside for pre-movie drinks and a stable of pinball machines, too. The seats are spacious & comfortable, the renovated theaters preserved much of the old-timey feel, and the staff runs a tight ship - no late entries, no cell phone use or loud talking during the movie. Best part is a pretty impressive menu and bar selection served at your seat.. all in all, its a solid operation - we love having this place as our neighborhood theater.
This is such a great place to see a movie! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It helped that it was a good movie, but the somehow intimate and grand setting made it all the better. The menu was a bit uninspired and has San Francisco prices, but we liked everything we ordered and the service was great.
The best. Amazing drinks, no frills but good food, good movies, pinball, cool decor, and they do amazing things for the community. I thought about taking a side gig here because its just that cool of a spot. Go! With family, friends, a date, yourself, theres something for everything.
Alamo Drafthouse is my Absolute Favorite movie theater brand ever. The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema New Mission is the best movie theater in San Francisco by far. Located at 2550 Mission Street in the Mission District, Alamo is easily accessible via public transit (Bart or Muni). One of my favorite things about Alamo is their free movie rewards program entitled Victory Rewards. It’s easy to sign up, and you get points for every movie you see. Their are tiers to the Victory Rewards program and the higher you go (more movies you see), the better the rewards. Also, all Victory members get a free movie ticket on their birthday. One of my other favorite things about Alamo are the Terror Tuesday and Weird Wednesday films. These are late night movies (10 pm - 12 am), normally classics movies, which are perfect for any cinephile, and the tickets are half price ($6 - 8). Lastly, what sets Alamo apart is the Gourmet food that they serve during the movies. You can still get your basic movie food like popcorn and soda, but, you can also get milkshakes, alcoholic beverages, and movie inspired dishes. If you’re not in a movie mood, you could also visit their in house bar, “Bear vs. Bull.” You can get a cosmopolitan, jack on rocks, or any of your favorite drinks while you chat in an intimate movie environment. You’ll find classic and large Bruce Lee movie posters plastered over the lobby, which is an awesome touch! Overall, this is a GREAT PLACE to visit. GO VISIT THIS PLACE!
The most unreasonable customer service for a place that is supposed to be about enhancing the movie going experience with food and drink. If you are going to bother to wax poetic about your policies on acceptable costumes for your premiere nights, your policy on late entry should be prominent and explicit, both on your site and on any tickets sold. Denying customers who have already paid for their tickets entry without providing frequent and obvious disclosure of your policy is deceptive in the best interpretation and fraudulent in the worst light. This experience is not consistent across locations (Albany location is great!) This location demands an urgent audit of its practices…
I loved seeing the Gwar documentary This is Gwar! here. I LOVE that they fixed up this old classic movie theater in the Mission. It has been boarded up for YEARS. I really love preserving these beautiful iconic buildings. I loved the small intimate theater size and the dining at our seats. I really enjoyed having the choice of actual plates of good food rather than just candy. And the delicious selection of beer was a plus too. It was our first time there and we kinda oopsed our way through ordering. Our waiter said it was his 1st shift. He did a stellar job serving us that evening. The whole interior of the building is beautiful and stayed true to its original classic design. Another plus was the pinball room! I love a pinball game. Flash Gordons pinball launcher needs servicing but i enjoyed playing the other pinball games. Please revive more boarded up classic theaters like this around the states. What a cool idea.
First and last time I come here to watch movies.Business model is restaurant first, movie theater second. Workers walking back and forth every minute for the first 30 minutes is super distracting and takes you completely out of the movie. Pictures are deceiving and the seats are much smaller, and narrower that doesnt recline - the reservation map depicts the arrangement as if spaced out in 2 seats but you are very close to your neighbors. I have never been in a theater where the side seats give such extreme viewing angle of the screen. It throws off the sound as well. All this while workers are going back and forth, smell of burgers, neighbors chewing, I couldnt wait for the movie to be over.
We ran into some traffic and weren’t let into a movie we had already had tickets for. I could understand if we were profusely late and it was the premier of a new movie, but this was a replay of Harry Potter in one of their smaller theatres. Not the best re-introduction to Alamo after 2 years. Pretty disappointed.
WORST MOVIE EXPERIENCE EVER!! staff was so rude and made me and my friends feel so uncomfortable through the entirety of the movie! super “strict” but in general they are just mean people. would only recommend this place if you are over the age of sixty five and are not excited to see the movie you are paying for overpriced
Got kicked out 20 minutes into The Northener 9:30pm showing on Tuesday May 17, 2022 from the tiny theater upstairs @ the San Francisco location because we arrived a bit late. There were maybe 30 folks in the theater and the manager crouched down during to show to kick us out. We were not disturbing anyone. We’re 3 sober middle-aged men and 2 of us hadn’t been to a movie in 3 years. I’ll never go back to the SF Alamo or any Alamo Drafthouse. .
Fantastic cinema! Retro design with modern amenities. Seats are very comfortable. Excellent acoustics and viewing angles from almost every seat.Seeing a movie here is a slightly different experience than an average theater since it is very centered around drinks and food. This is great because the food and drinks selection is unlike any theater Ive ever been to - there are all sorts of tasty meals and snacks as well as a robust craft beer menu and all sorts of fantastic other drinks - but I found it can also distract from the movie a little bit. There are also lights underneath every pair of seats that seem to not go out at all throughout the movie which was a bit distracting too. But for me the pros still vastly outweighed the cons and will definitely be coming back here to catch another flick!Last thing to note: the popcorn is an absolutely enormous serving and probably takes at least 2-3 people to finish it off!
This cinema is a real neighborhood gem. The atmosphere, the decor, the full service menu, and all the little touches they put really add to the moviegoing experience. You can really get immersed into a movie here.I thought the staff was very friendly and like ninjas whipping through the aisles, barely noticeable, providing food and refreshments to the patrons as discreet as possible. I watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 70mm film and let me tell you, it was a welcome experience to see film grain again. I really enjoy this theater, the seats are plush, the angles are great, and the vibe that it gives off really make this a place worth visiting.
The Alamo is a fantastic venue, able to ride the line between the soulless facade of the AMC downtown, and the antiquated (but appreciated) bare bones experience of the Roxie. All shoved into a gorgeously refurbished classic Mission theater and staffed by a phenomenal staff.
Love the old quirky atmosphere the theater emotes. Youre greeted with an old-school vibe. You have pinball machines on the second floor an arcade and dvd/record stand on the first. Love the idea of ordering food from your seat but often times the ushers weaving in and out can be distracting. The food is a bit pricey but what isnt in San Francisco. Overall, youll enjoy the uniqueness of this theater.
What an amazing experience! Went to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 70mm and have no regrets! The atmosphere is amazing and the staff is friendly & are knowledgeable about their beer lists! Try the Moonlight Lager, it was aces! Will definitely be back for another theatrical experience!
Evidently originated in Austin TX, this place brings back the vibe of the true Cinema experience with a slight twist on the convenience of food/drinks.We saw one of the only two directors cuts of The Abyss here for our first major feature. Decent beer and food selection. The second film we watched was a dark movie in the same genre of Heart of Darkness or Lord of The Flies called MONOS.Service for both was outstanding!I wish we had one of these in Chicago near west loop/Fulton market... *wink*
I can’t really imagine a better theater experience. The interior is just awesome! Feels like stepping back in time. The food was great and drinks were even better. I saw a movie in theater 5 and whileIt was small, I really liked the intimate setting. Picture and sound were perfect. Alamo really has it figured out!
This is a classic old movie theatre that runs b/w movie clips and some newer ones that bridges decades of entertainment past to today. You order food/snack and drinks to your seat and get ready for the main feature. It is relaxing and winding down place after daily hustling and bustling busy tech-dominated life. In the middle of the Mission District, it offers great access without a need for driving to get there.
Im a darn big Alamo Drafthouse fan and every trip i do, I must go see a flick at the Alamo ! Whilst i enjoyed the funkiness of this location, you quickly realize its not a new locaiton they built, but a takeover of a really old theater. I actually wnhoyed the idea ,untill we sat in the movie. My big and only complaint as how froggin hot it was. The theater itself is enormous so my guess is there AC was on the fritz. I can take some heat, but it was so unbearable we had to leave esrly and get a raincheck. The drinks were awesome and the food was so so
Spend money here please! A church for movie fans. The movie is the focus and I love that. Order delicious food from your assigned seat. The vegan burger and boozy banana split shake were a decadent treat while watching Licorice Pizza with a special recorded conversation with PTA and the lead actors.
This place is impressive. I was surprised with how large it is inside. The bar atmosphere incites you in with its sultry attitude. Upstairs we enjoyed a few rounds of nostalgic pinball. Seating for the movie started about 30 min prior. I highly recommend arriving early. That way you can get familiar with the layout and order food/drinks. The food was and drinks were amazing. That Truffle popcorn is an absolute must! The vibe of the theater and patrons were perfect. If you find going to a typical theater a lackluster experience full of obnoxious people then try this place. You wont be disappointed.
We were originally going to see a double feature here but the server at the bar (Bear vs. Bull) was a bit unfriendly before our first show. We were a little disappointed with that service and didn’t want to stay for several hours. The show itself (from the custom previews to the service during the film) was phenomenal. It was such a fun experience. The food was also top notch (an excellent thin crust pizza, the queso was unbelievable, and the milkshakes—we had the triple chocolate and malted Mexican vanilla—were divine). But our seats were a bit uncomfortable. The front row would be fine if you aren’t sitting on the far end. We will go back so long as we can get good seats and hopefully a different bar tender will be serving!
This place is a hoot! When booking a film here keep in mind this theatre is more of a restaurant that plays a film while youre there. You can order anything from craft cocktails to deep fried pickles and the milkshakes are awesome! I found it really distracting to have a bunch of servers running around the theater to pick up orders and drop off food, but if youre going to see the film a second time or with a group of friends this would only add to the fun! Theres also a hip bar just beyond where you pick up your tickets which is the perfect place to grab a drink before the movie 😉
This is the best theater I have ever been to. It is historic and beautiful, the theaters are amazing, seats comfortable, food delicious, friendly staff, cool shop and bar. Always look out for the cool events they hold. I went to an even for the film Come To Daddy with the director and Elijah Wood and it was a blast.
This place is awesome!! If the gorgeous details of the theater don’t tickle your fancy, maybe the bar will? Perhaps the book signings and Q&A’s they host might be better for you. We had a great time here. The service was prompt and without issue. They worked as a well oiled machine. Never missing a ticket or drink. I couldn’t get over the gorgeous building. You won’t regret watching a film here.
I picked Alamo to go and see Avengers: Endgame because I would be in this city on release weekend. I go to Alamo in my home state and this one was a bit different. The building is an old theater that has been rehabilitated back to its glory. There are only a few screens and they are the old theater setup instead of stadium seating. There is still enough room to walk and to get your food but I am reminded of when all theaters had the slanted floors. The place is beautiful. A lovely display of movie and theater history is there to tempt the pocketbook. Alamo also produces a limited edition book/magazine of major and historic movies. I spent some money there walking away with information on Jurassic Park, Avengers, and Star Trek.A lovely place and a good time. My food was prompt, fresh, hot, and tasty. My milkshake was divine as it always is at Alamo.
Having gone here three times now. I can confidently say it is the best theatre atmospherically in San Francisco, especially with enforcing policy. No one talks or takes their cellphone out during the film. Food is fantastic if not on the expensive side. Had the mushroom/veggie pizza and it was absolutely amazing.
The bar / draft room is in the BACK of the building so walk in the glass theater door and walk towards the back of the building. The Drafthouse is the SAME place as the Bear v Bull bar, so dont be confused by the separate listings in your search results. Cool atmosphere that keep the low cinema lighting vibe alive with funky music.
It was my first time coming here two weeks ago and Im definitely coming back again. We watched La La Land here and the ambiance was perfect. They serve you food as you watch the movie and even though the menu is a bit pricey, some of the food and drinks are delicious. The mac and cheese along and the parmasean popcorn are a hit.
A great place to see a movie! Ive been to the Austin location and this one definitely turns everything up to 11. The venue is amazing! The old, refurbished, theater building really gives the Castro theater a run for its money. The only downside is the price; you pay the same whether or not your seat is great or neck wrenching. So buy your tickets well in advance for the best chance at a 5 star experience.PS: Make sure whatever you are going to see is on screens 1, 2, or 3 as the rooms tend to get smaller as the number increases.
Came here for what was supposed to be movie night with the husband and left the theatre with our night ruined instead. We checked in with the staff to figure out what time we could arrive by-- we were told 6:45. I arrived earlier than the time specified, but was declined entry. We both were forced to leave.I understand that Alamo has a strict policy with arrival times, but management should have made clear to staff the rules for entry. This is a huge failure on managements part -- they should have trained their staff to know when exactly to tell customers they have to arrive at the theatre. Misinformation like this makes people leave and never come back. This will only continue to make customers angry and leaving Alamo feeling robbed -- which is a shame because I really used to love this place.
I have been to movie theaters across the world and never have a seen one so unpleasant. My main complaint would be the staff and this movie theaters policies. Never have I meet and been treated so poorly and made uncomfortable and unwelcome than here. Then don’t even get me started on their dumb policies. Like listen it’s a movie theater, I’m not disturbing anyone, hurting anyone, or interrupting the movie experience. This place needs to take itself less serious because it’s a pile of trash.
This place is a total geode. You wouldnt expect it from the surrounding neighborhood. The inside has been totally revamped, and the staff are so helpful and friendly. The food is good, and they are invested in giving you a real experience. Great movies, great food. Their milkshakes are amazing. They also have a robust selection of drinks. Recommend that you arrive early to get the lay of the land if you are a first timer. They really helped us out and we had an amazing time.
Truly a great movie dinner drink experience. Each seat has a table and menu and the wait staff scuttle unobtrusively around to serve you drinks and great food during the show. Somehow with all that going on, its still quieter than on some theaters where kids and young adults behave rudely by taking loudly or even on their phones. Not here, very well organized and run. Seats are comfortable too. Really great experience.
Since we discovered this place weve only been seeing movies here now. Any seat is a good seat. (Maybe not the first row if I dont have to). Theres plenty of room for each row, so your viewing experience is always good. Food portion is very generous. (Try the truffle oil popcorn.) A decent selection of beers and other drinks. (Try the key lime shake.) I would not recommend for families with young children as theres an absolutely no talking no texting rule enforced.
Love this theater so much! The food is ok for this type of thing — the grilled cheese was yummy but the pizza terrible. What I love is their no nonsense policy re distractions like people on their phones or talking. Comfortable seating and good sound. Good service, very unobtrusive. My go to theater.
Love love love this place! Looks really cool inside, bartenders are nice, lots of beer and cocktail options. They have lots of rotating beer options, which I love. The movie theaters themselves are beautiful - they preserved the architecture of the old theaters. Comfy seats. Food is about $10-20, lots to choose from (truffle parmesan popcorn is a must try!). I like that they uphold the policy of no talking during the movie, some people get annoyed about that. I like how while you wait for your movie to start, they show clips about the producers talking about the movie or just interesting facts that are somewhat related. Awesome experience, especially because AMC and all of those other movie theaters like it are super expensive just for the ticket.
It was a great experience to watch a movie in a comfortable seat and eat a wonderful meal at the same time! We had the Brisket Burgers and fries with SMore Cookies for dessert, and everything was so delicious! The burgers and fries were what youd expect at a top sit-down restaurant, and the cookies were what you would find at a top bakery. We also enjoyed bottomless soda-pop and quality beer! Everything was mid-priced and well-worth it! We will definitely go back again!
Such an awesome movie going experience! The food is great, the hand picked movie intros are awesome, and the ambiance is wonderful. Its nice that they take care to make the movie experience perfect so that youre there to see the movie! The staff is very attentive and always buzzing around making sure you have everything you need, but they are never in the way of the movie.
This place is amazing! Great food and drinks. Great service during the movies. Comfortable seats with tables. Lots of showings of great classic films. These guys take their cinema really seriously. Its a hidden gem and I highly recommend going and seeing something theyre showing when you get a chance.
I love this theater more than any other. Movie selections are top notch, especially for their special events like Terror Tuesday. Screens are great - but not every seat is a good one. Luckily there a ton of great atmosphere all around and the food and drinks are amazing. I hardly go anywhere else for a movie anymore. Thrilled at this addition to the Mission.
Love this movie theatre. My favorite place to see a movie with friends. The theatres are small to medium sized with large comfortable seats. My two favorite parts are that you can order food and drink before and during the moving. Everything from wings to pizza and desserts, along with draft and bottled beer, wine and cocktails. The second being that there is plenty of leg room so staff can bring the food and drink without interruption, as a result it never feels cramped. Its not iMax quality picture and sound, but still very well maintained. Try out the pinball machines after he movie on the first floor mezzanine.
I have always visited other theater chains, never been to this one. Came to it to watch a movie that wasn’t available anywhere else. I just say I was very surprised by this theater. The chairs are nice, spacious, and comfy. They are all in good shape too. The theater rooms are quite big as well. I love how they serve everything too. Not just your usual popcorn and nachos. And the chairs are even designed with this in mind, with plenty of space around the armrest to place a food item, or even trays that connect to your cup holder that will hold all your food.
The best movie theater in San Francisco is the restored Mission Theater, which is now operated as the Alamo Drafthouse San Francisco. They restored it over several years and now run a truly fun place. It has a small number of classic video games and a rather impressive collection of pinball machine above the Bear vs. Bull bar. This bar is also really nice. There is a retro style video store in the lobby, and the whole place is designed for movie lovers. If youre not familiar with the Alamo Drafthouse, they have spacious seats with food and drinks brought too you at your seat during the movie, including bringing drinks from the bar. This costs a bit more than a local burrito as you might expect, but makes for a great night out.I just have to say I really miss going here as they responsibly implemented social distancing and then had to temporarily close during covid. I cant wait to come back!
Awesome restored old theater. You order at your seats from a full food and bar menu. Excellent quality food, large unique drink selection. Items are delivered directly to the small table at your seats. Great pinball machines upstairs. (about 10!) Entrance and seating is super easy when you purchase tickets directly from their website. Go check this place out.
A Theater worth going to.Alamo Drafthouse is for those who love movies and want to love them more. Its for fans of movies who get annoyed at people using their phones in theaters, for those who wish people would stop talking in the middle of the movie. Who just...want to watch a movie with not disturbances. And for that its 100% worth it.The food itself is pretty good. Its great for a movie theater and usually at reasonable prices (minus the milkshakes, those can cost a lot). The theater is kind and respectful. Honestly I go watch most movies there. So if you can spare the time go check it out!
The theater has has that off-beat, quirky sense of humor you find in San Francisco. If this is not your style then you will have to endure the previews and they also have a matinee price thats fairly reasonable. They have reserved seating and you can order food directly from your seat that is delivered to you. It is a smart system that doesnt interrupt your viewing or enjoyment of the feature. They also have a bar and on the lower floor they also have old-school pinball machines. Its a good theater.
Recommended! This is a great old timey theater with service to your seat with popcorn and even full meal items. Theyre pretty strict about not talking during movies, but thats not much of a problem for me. The ticket price really isnt that bad, either: only $16 or so for the film I saw. I think they make money back on the tasty food items.
Great theater experience! Seats are comfortable, lots of space, other patrons are respectful and quiet, employees are super nice, and (most importantly) they always show great movies. The only downside is that the food here is not great; I actually prefer getting dinner beforehand and skipping eating at the theater.
This is the only place we go to watch movies now. Weve been spoiled! We love being able to pick our seats & being able to order food, beer, wine, and cocktails from your seat is definitely the best part! The food is actually pretty good (a couple of faves of mine: fennel & mushroom pizza and their yummy hot wings). I also love trying out the rotating beers they have on tap.
The concept of a theater with comfy seating, decent snacks, and cocktails has always appealed to me. Their drinks are really tasty and theres an impressive variety. Snacks are hit or miss, but Ive found the deviled eggs, popcorn, and queso to be satisfying enough. The staff has been great every time Ive gone, especially since they have to be quick and unobtrusive. Only 4 stars because the audio in the largest theater is, in my opinion, not great. Unbalanced and too loud.
Large and clean theatre with a ton of drink selection. Watched a private viewing for a Marvel film here and had a few cocktails - very good quality. Sometimes the staff has to walk through the room in front of you, but other than that, its a great spot for movies, drinks, and food.Sliders were good, old fashions tasted on point, and lots of popcorn! Corporate events are great if you rent out the room.
The servers, the ambience and the programs they have for movie lovers..Video Vortex, Terror Tuesday, Weird Wednesday.. and they sell merch thats unique and hard to find. They know my drink order the moment I sit down and I simply ADORE them all. The Theater 1 screen is big, great sound, and bright projection. The other theaters are smaller, each has up and down sides, but those also feel more like a personal hidden home movie theater (great cause less noise).
Ok experience, the food server was under attentive, and wasnt friendly nor even personable. The price of the food is higher up, so are drinks, unfortunately quality is good at best and not what you pay for.We got our tickets online and they only showed seating on the first row but while there, I noticed the theater was less than half capacity full. I ended up with neck pain from having to stare upwards for two hrs. Why werent the other seats shown available?
Absolutely love this place. They always have a great selection of films and the food is - very honestly - fantastic. Everything Ive had there is so so good. I had the burger, chop salad, pizza and a few other things are they were all solid. I also LOVE their truffle parmesan popcorn - though the serving size of this bowl of popcorn is HUGE! The bar on the first floor is also a very cool place with great drinks and atmosphere is great. Cant recommend this place enough!
Beautiful cinema. You can reserve tickets for new releases and catch some oldies or indie films when they come around here. The food is pretty good but a little pricey. Try one of their spiked milk shakes if youre looking for a treat. This theater even has one of my favorite mission bars tucked away in the back. The bar makes for a great movie date spot or place to duck into when other bars are over crowded.
Best movie experience! Great seats, yummy food - I had the loaded tots - plus folks are well behaved. No texting, no chatting, no late arrivals. Kinda pricey but worth it - reminds me of those old airline pics, where folks were eating on real plates, with actual linens
My guess is they specialize in boozes. My friend sold me on this place on the food level saying its great. Its pretty low grade. When you are drunk everything tastes better. My food was served cold, my milkshake was small and it was super expensive. We were in a group of five and none of our food was served even remotely close in timeframe. The novelty of eating dinner during the movie was cool. The seats had plenty of room. The sound sucked at least for a pretty musical movie. Id recommend going out to dinner first and going to a real theater that cares.
Fantastic experience! You order food, drinks, and snacks at your seats and the staff delivers it to a little table in front of you. Tons of leg room, and the staff is really good about not blocking your vision, staying out of sight. Its a little pricier than a regular theatre, and the food/drinks arent cheap, but its totally 100% worth it. Make sure you buy your tickets ahead of time because it usually sells out quickly.
They literally cater to you!! 🤩 You just buy your tickets and go to the assigned theater. Once u find your seats a waiter or waitress comes over to explain the food and drinks menu and how everything works. (Pretty much you write down what you want on a note card and stand it up with items facing forward and a waiter comes and grabs or and brings you your items. Then at the end of the movie they give you the check. Pretty awesome I should say!
Was a cool movie experience with food available to order, but the rules are REALLY strict. You must arrive on time or they wont let you in. Its a small theater and we had a group of 6. We needed one more seat to be able to all sit together but other guests were not interested in moving one seat to the right from their assigned seat. We easily fit 6 in 5 seats but they kept threatening to kick us out even though we bought 7 seats. They make it clear that if you talk during the show they kick you out etc. Just wish it was a little more laid back
A great place to enjoy a movie and lunch or dinner. There are tables for every 2 seats, with food and drinks ordered and served during the movie. They show a combination of the usual Hollywood fare with some arthouse films as well. To top it off, there is a large pinball arcade (arcade games near entrance, pinball upstairs,) bar, and video store. Definitely caters to classic movie fans properly.
To be honest, the hype of this spot isnt worth it to me. Seats are less comfortable than other theaters (no recliners). The in-theater food and drink order system causes distractions that absolutely eclipse the no-cell-phones policy. Movie times are a bit odd. Bathrooms are pretty inconvenient, too.The food and drinks are nice, and theaters are clean.
Awesome theater - Food/popcorn was wonderful - Great wine, beer & cocktail menu - Screen and setup of seating was terrific - You can buy their unlimited movie pass for $30/month if you see a lot of films - Excellent mix of regular in-theaters movies along with independent & foreign films. Love this Theater 📽🍿🥤🎬🍷🍫
Lovely building a little bit away from the hustle of downtown. Went here for a games event but it would also be a great place to enjoy a film. They serve you food and drink at your seat. We had pepperoni pizza and fries, which I can recommend. The bar is also really good. There is a ramp into the building and accessible seats to the rear of the screen we sat in. Staff were friendly and we had a great time.
I first visited this theater in Austin and loved the concept. I liked the reserved seats and the option to eat and drink in the theater, although occasionally it can be annoying with the servers walking in front of you during the movie. I really love the themed days where they play old movies usually for $5! The food is pretty good, although I find the sizing to be a bit large and therefore a little pricey. Also, having the bar inside is a great place to meet up pre or post-movie.
This is a very cool place to watch movies! They have a full bar, and food that you can order while youre watching a movie! Seats fill up quick for popular movies so definitely stop by early to reserve your seats unless youve reserved online, and perhaps eat nearby while waiting for your movie time!
Ive spent a lot more on movies since this place opened in the mission. I absolutely love the space. I love being served while I watch a movie. I love how strict they are about good behavior. I love that they come up with personalized content prior to every movie so that you arent bored while waiting around for the film to start. The bar is also pretty nice and if you go there before a movie you can bring your drinks to your seat.
Excellent selection of films, great vibe, preshow is fun. Seating is comfortable, staff are friendly. They should be more aware of when the movie is at a critical dramatic point, though, and wait til that has past to serve, distribute checks etc. The food is delicious but the portions are small, especially for how expensive it is. The venue is beautiful, interestingly designed with multiple smaller side screens/rooms in addition to the main one. Movie, warm meal and drinks all in one fairly intimate theater. Service excellent. And what a surprise to go down a level to find a variety of old and newschool pinball machines! And then going down to street level to find the most hidden, dark but enticing bar. This place is full of hidden treasure if you thought youd just come for a movie and meal
This is a fun and functional take on dinner and a movie. Why not combine them? The waitstaff is great and doesnt linger. You order food by scribbling what you want on a slip of paper and placing it in a band in front of your table. These slips of paper also come in handy when you want to talk to your date, as talking is prohibited and passing notes is a fun way to get around the restriction. I found that I ended up with food on my shirt partially due to not being able to see what I was eating, but I brought a jacket so it was fine. Bonus points for gluten-free options, though their options are limited to pizzas. There is also a huge classy bar for while you wait for your movie to start or for after the show, and there is also a gift shop and integrated DVD rental section with some pop culture and cult favorites.
Love love love this place!! Best place in San Francisco to watch a movie. Great service and amazingly delicious food and drinks. Theres also a great bar to hang out and get some cocktails or beers before the movie. Im 63 so i definitely appreciate the leg room thats at every theater. Nowhere else i would rather watch a movie!
A great experience in a historical theater!Alamo Drafthouse was converted from an abandoned theater thats been sitting idle in the mission district for years. What makes the movie going experience great is that Alamo Drafthouse Cinema serves food and drinks. Even though the food and snack menu is relatively small, its fun snacking and eating while staring at a huge screen, instead of on your couch. The price of the food is reasonable. Popcorn seems expensive but the portion is huge. Some food items were okay, but this is a theater, not a restaurant trying to get a Michelin stat. Also, the price of the ticket is just like a normal theater (might be cheaper even!) and its assigned seating.Weve been several times and will definitely bring friends who havent experienced this. Also, watching a 3D movie is probably not a good idea if you are eating food at the same time.
Its so great that Alamo Drafthouse came to SF! Big comfy seats, food and drink service during the movie, and they live up to their name with a great beer selection. The food is pricey for what it is and most of is pretty average. I also like that they have rules and enforce no talking or texting during the movie, which should be common sense, but there are some in every crowd. Service can be slow in the big theater if its full, so get a drink at the bar first and bring it into the theater. I love seeing movies here!
This place transformed my cinema viewing experience... They have amazing curated videos starting 30 min before the movie itself which in many cases are even better than the movie, and in any case provide very valuable background to the movie content or its actors and directors. I will rarely miss those videos. In addition there is very tasty food here especially the milkshakes and breakfast burger. Me and my friends think the milkshakes might almost as important as the actual video content.I am trying to go every week if I can.In addition the customer service is just so great. Everyone is trusting and it feels like they want you to enjoy it and dont try to take as much money from you as possible can being fair.Great place!
I recently went here for the first time to catch a show and was taken aback by how extravagantly ornate this theater is. The architecture and layout of the theater is gorgeous. I lucked out as the movie I saw was playing in the largest theater room which was stunning with tons of legroom and comfortable seats. They have a full menu of great options from which to choose and the service is great. I felt pretty spoiled by the whole experience and cannot wait to get back.
I had a great time here! its funky and fun. I was a little bothered by how bright the light is under the table at each seat, but all in all its a great theater experience. I particularly like how you can choose your seats when you buy tickets and that you can order food and drink from your seat!
Went to a special event here. Its a really cool old theatre that lets you order food but some of the staff were rude and didnt really communicate when things were out. I heard one staff member berate someone next to me because she ordered a milkshake and they were out.The food was really good but I thought it was odd that they seemed to be running out of things really early into the event especially since you have to book tickets so they knew it was going to be a full event.I would go again but I probably wont order food or drinks next time.
This is probably one of the best move experiences youll have. They play both new movies and old movies and have a great selection of booze and food. Each theater is pretty small and tend to get booked up, so definitely buy tickets as early as you can. Food is pretty tasty too. Kinda pricy. Expect to spend $60 min. for a movie and dinner date.
Theater seemed massive, which Im not mad about. The section in the back for disabled folks is raised, which I liked for its vantage point. Server was nice, popcorn bowl was $8 but huge, and overall it is a theater Id revisit, especially for special movie events—which they seem to have fairly often. Be sure to sign up for their rewards program as well.
Loved the food/drink + movie combo. The wait staff was not distracting at all. They have this setup down. Seats were comfy and the food was as tasty as it sounded. Drinks are a bit pricey, but given how cheap the seats are Im guessing this is how they make their margin.
This is our favorite theater to frequent. It’s full table service and the food and drinks are great (though a little pricy in some cases). The regular butter popcorn is my go-to and is just delicious. We always show up 10-15 mins early to see the video that Alamo Drafthouse puts together with facts about the movie. There’s also hooks under the tables for your bag.
Visiting Alamo Draft House Cinema is delightful. Different activities happen in different parts of the building: there is a bar or two, pinball machines, a couple of movie theaters, and yet its not overwhelming. Its interesting to stop by and explore even without going to the movies. At the movies, there are little tables by the chairs, and one can order drinks and snacks: vaguely sophisticated bar fare or popcorn. Drinks come in real glasses, and popcorn in metal bowls, so it feels almost fancy. The staff is friendly, except one person was unnecessarily thorough recently on teaching me how to order properly, but that was just once.I would recommend purchasing movie theaters in advance, because the theaters are small, and the place understandably popular.
Nice beer selection, and the popcorn is really good. The other food Ive tried was nothing special. But the screens are nice and good movie etiquette is enforced. All the dining can get a little noisy when the room is packed, but come in for an afternoon show and its perfect.
This theater has gotten me back into enjoying movies. Nothing compares to first run films with dinner and drinks brought to my seat. It has good food, impressive bar, friendly staff, and no tolerance for noisy patrons during the show. I hear some say its overpriced, but I think its fair if you expect to pay for dinner and a movie. Since the Alamo opened on mission street, I will always pick it over other theaters showing a film I want to see.
I went to the Alamo Drafthouse SF for the first time today for a movie party of Steel Magnolias! Fantastic experience! I had never been to one and this was a fabulous way to be indoctrinated to the plushness of this theater & all the fun it has to offer. Try the truffle popcorn with a bottomless Diet Coke (thank you, thank you, btw, for offering Coke Zero!!!) That never happens! 😊 I can’t wait for another movie to beckon me back!
Beautifully restored classic theater, turned cinema. Theyre a popular movie tavern with great food and limited seating so buying your ticket in advance for a popular movie is a must. They take their no talking policy seriously, so dedicated fans may appreciate the more respectful audiences they tend to come to Alamo. They have a variety of classic movies showing during the week, so check out their calendar if youre bored on a Tuesday. My favorite part of going to the Alamo is actually their pre-reel where for 30 minutes before the show they play a series of old clips, interviews and goofy videos that are specific to the movie about to play. Im usually not paying them full attention, but theyre interesting and better than the loud ads blasted out before movies at most franchise theaters.
Watched the newest Aquaman here last Thursday night. Terrible movie, but thats not the theaters fault. For $16.50 per ticket, you get comfortable reserved seating where servers are on hand to bring any desired drinks & food. These kinds of theaters are beginning to be the new normal in the movie-going experience. I wish the seats reclined a bit to maximize comfort. Overall, it may be time for the Alamo to do some remodeling or at least a deep cleaning to refresh; the theater is beginning to smell like an old car.
Definitely a date night experience. The food is ok to good. The venue is pretty awesome, especially the pinball machines. The waitress told us that we should be prepared to be pampered... I wouldnt go THAT far, not PAMPERS per se, but at least squeezing the Charmin. The prices are pretty steep. Dinner tickets, an entree, a shake (which they have NO NON DAIRY OPTIONS which for me is unacceptable in this day and age), and a beer for a couple of patrons will cost you about $100. And that didnt include popcorn. Service was kind of slow and they didnt really serve food until after the movie starts, and Im like why wait? Im hongry now, scribscraminit!. The concept of the place is awesome, and I love the idea of their events running 5 similar shows with lectures and discussion about the genre. Would I want to pay $500 to see those 5 shows? Hmmmm. I got 80% of the value of what I paid, so a healthy 4 stars for Alamo.
Absolutely a great movie going experience. There is reserved seating and a table is designated for every two seats. Orders are taken by servers, so theres no need to wait in line for snacks or drinks... Heck they even offer full meal options! The special screenings and popcorn alone makes it worth it to pretty much see anything here.
Fantastic cinema experience, Ive been twice in 5 days while passing through San Francisco to the larger cinema 1 and small cimema 4. It does get quite expensive if you get a few beers and snacks - but most cinemas do I suppose. The ordering system it extremely easy, and the waiters come straight to your seat. The arm rests fold up too, and the seats are very comfortable.
Theyre still polishing the place, but what a great experience! They have two large theaters and several small ones. The small ones are still pretty big screens, but they only seat 20ish people because every two seats have a table and a full menu and you can order great food during the whole movie. Dont use your phone or talk during the movies, youll get kicked out.
Better food than you would expect in a movie theater, but the tables arent quite big enough to accommodate food and drinks for two. The picture and sound quality for the films arent as high as the topline theaters, but the fun atmosphere and great table service throughout the films make it a good outing.
Fun theatre with a great menu and a delightful array of adult beverages and soft drinks. Often shows a mix of current release movies with surprise throwback events or cult movie classics. Beautifully restored old building with lots of character, the place also boasts an accessible bar that doesnt require tickets to indulge.
Alamo is the next level theater complete with a vast gambit of cinematic offerings from classics to the new stuff. Make sure to come with enough time to enjoy the full bar. The large theater is awesome and all the rows are very spacious. The in seat food offerings and drinks are second to none in SF. Truffle garlic popcorn amazing.
Absolutely LOVE this theater! Come early. Enjoy a drink at the bar. You can bring your drink into your theater! You cant be on your cell phone during the movie. Youll get a warning but if you still use it again youll be asked to leave. My very minor complaint is they serve popcorn in these giant metal bowls. The couple next to me kept hitting their bowl on their glasses.. it was distracting. Also the servers diving and running all over is mildly distracting but I realize its gotta get done. When I was there a man in the row behind us had a seizure. Im a RN and I helped him out kept him stable till the ambulance arrived. They didnt even comp me a drink or say thank you or anything.. anyway. Im looking forward to getting back. Its very close to 24th & mission Bart. Great date night place!
We come here all the time because this is such a great experience. Great service, fun atmosphere, good cocktails, nicely currated selection of movies and events. The beyond meat burger is yummy, but they could definitely use some more vegetarian options proportionate to their large menu.
If you have the money for it, its a very cool theatre with a lot to offer. You can order alcohol, from beer to hard liquor, food, dessert, multiple kinds of popcorn, all from your seat either while you wait for the show to start, during previews, or while watching the movie. Its also one of the few theatres around the Bay Area that does early viewings of movies, as well as having a multitude of movie accessories in the lobby area, from soundtracks to newly released movies, and more. So like i said, if you have the money, its worth it, because it is a bit pricey, while still being very cool.
Buy your tix ahead of time.Servers will come to you for regular popcorn and coke, so dont go looking for it. Theater seats are in twos with a table to share. And i love their hidden bar as you enter. Kinda loud for dates, but good for small groups!Too small for big groups.
Unlike most movie theaters, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is something special. The clips before the main attraction are well worth coming early, sometimes even better than the feature film itself. Food is good and you dont need to get out of your seat! Definitely my choice for a movie, best movie theater experience yet...been back quite a few times, never have I been disappointed.
Great cinema experience. Audio is nice and full and loud. Beautiful retro movie house converted into multiplex, but so different from Century 20 for example. Food is good but overpriced as expected. Adult beverages are very tasty but also a few dollars above market rate. Definitely a special occasion night for my sweetie and I.
I love the New Mission Alamo Drafthouse! Its my favorite movie theater in San Francisco, along with The Castro. The Drafthouse has a pretty decent selection of beers and cocktails, and their food is pretty good, considering its a movie theater. The food and drinks are kind of pricey ($16 for a burger with thick-cut fries, and most beers are around $8), but its to be expected for San Francisco, I suppose. I LOVE the fact that all seating is reserved, so you dont have to wait in ridiculous lines to get in, like in other theaters: just purchase your tickets and select your seat ahead of time using their handy mobile app, and then show up 5 minutes before the movie is about to start. Your seat will be waiting for you! You may want to arrive earlier, however, if youre planning on ordering food/drink for the movie (service can take a while, particularly during popular movies). Also, the preshow trailers, clips, music videos, etc. that they show before the movie are awesome and usually themed according to the movie. Very cool! Just remember to dont text, talk or arrive late to your movie, or you WILL be kicked out. Theyre serious about that; Ive seen people turned back once the movie started or ejected because they were making too much noise. And good riddance, I say! I wish more theaters did that.
Super fun spot to see a new film. We always go with famy and plan to have dinner there during the movie. Solid menu with lots of things to choose from. Pricy, but that is probably what you would expect from a full service movie tavern. At our most recent visit, the food was super delayed, but the staff made an effort to comp that part of the meal, and I greatly appreciated their effort to make things right! Remember to book your movies a few days in advance because this place is hard to get into on the same day!
I love this theater. My favorite in San Francisco. The staff is great, the food is well above average, and the theaters projectors and sound are really great. The only downside is that lately the word has really gotten out and almost every time I go there now there is some moron or group of morons that think this nice public theater is their living room despite the very loud and obvious disclaimer telling them that they can not talk during the movie, as if that was not a well established societal norm already. Bottom line, you will probably have to deal with an idiot or two in the audience, but at least Alamo staff will kick them out eventually.
Amazing theater. At this theater you are able to order food and drink from your seat and have it brought to you, even during the movie! And they do so without disturbing you or the people around you. I came here for a Star Wars marathon, Episodes 1-8. The staff are very friendly as well!

2022-04-06Unique cinema experience with service available right at your seat. The food is amazing and delicious, we had fries and chocolate milkshake. Movie had a special message for Alamo viewers which was super cool to see. It maintains an old theater ambiance that is lovely to see. My only wish is that the screen and seats could be better. But thank you Alamo overall for such a unique experience.

2022-03-01Very comfortable small theatre inside a huge building. Seats only 45 I think? Maybe it was 25. Very intimate. Each seat has a mini table with a menu in front. You can order drinks a food! So handy. One thing I didnt like was, Im fairly short, the table cut off the view of the bottom of the movie screen. Not the worst thing in the world but distracting. But, hey! I had a drink and snack in front of me. The gigantic, elegant building had pinball in nearby public areas, by the bathrooms. There were many theatre withobie choices. Then there was a giant bar on the floor level in the back. Totally beautiful. I look forward to going back!

2022-01-18Great movie selection. Yummy food and a bar. Funky decor. Video games. This is the kind of place you could stay at all day. Doing their best to adhere to COVID safety rules.

2022-06-20Great experience, especially in the historic looking Theater 1.Seating: pretty comfy, sharing a table with the seat next to you, plenty of leg room even with the waiters coming inService: 10/10, the waiter was responsive, and the box office was really helpful with a ticket refund when one of my friends got Covid.Menu: lots of options, decent vegetarian selection, great cocktails. 4 stars instead of 5 only because my avocado toast was something I’d expect at an airport. I’d come back to drink & have some upgraded snacks during a movie but wouldn’t come on an empty stomach.

2022-06-18Nice, huge theater. Other spaces and activities happening besides movies like an arcade. Theater was nice, the lights were dim enough not to distract from the film. Unfortunately, a lot of the food items on the menu weren’t available like the lemonade and some of the milk shakes. There was also less candy snacks than a regular theater, surprisingly. And expect to see servers walking back and forth, it’s part of the experience, they are delivering orders.

2022-06-17Had a great time watching the new Top Gun movie here. Seats are large and comfortable. Fun that you can order food from your seat and have it delivered to you before or during the movie. They did a wonderful job restoring the theater!

2022-07-15Cozy bar and dinner service in a funky historic cinema. Service can be a bit hit or miss...suggest ordering everything at once. House-made chicken tenders and baked-to-order chocolate chip cookies are fantastic. Come early, enjoy a drink in the bar ... You can take it into the theater with you!

2022-07-13This place is cool, but the seating layout was strange. We sat in a corner with with a big curtain on the left hand side that was a distraction and it was expensive for a matinee price. But the sound and picture were great. Also really comfy chairs. Id sit in the first three rows if i go back.

2022-06-20What a wonderful treasure of a movie theater. Stunning decor and atmosphere! The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and filling, plus great for the price. Cant wait to go back!
