Great shop, recently visited for May 5th free comic book day with my kid. Had so much fun we came back the next day and spent a lot here. The staff is awesome, and they have a plethora of comics! If you get the bug to collect make this place your first stop! Good prices and great products. They are a wealth of knowledge!
I have been coming to A-1 Comics since I was a kid, at all the different locations. The walls are covered in all sorts of cool stuff, and you can buy just about anything you can think of here! The staff is friendly and helpful if youre looking for something specific. They also have pretty great deals and sales from time to time.
Very nice and clean place, I go here a lot to look around a lot, kind of sucks how some of their anime figurines are damaged because they came like that which is a bummer, always have some nice stickers and very friendly staff. Also they rarely restock on manga which is kind of sad but they still have a huge selection, also lots of high quality marvel stuff in there. I have been coming here for 5+ months and they never disappoint. I definitely recommend going here!!!
I have been a customer of this store since I moved back here in October of 2018.I cannot possibly say enough good. things about the owner and staff. If you are looking for current comics. or back issues this is definately the place to start.Since they have three stores in close proximity to this area, they have a large stock to check. I know if you are a casual or especially a serious collector as I am you will not be disappointed.!As I continue to get my comics at A1, the service and the friendly atmosphere continue to be all that any true comics collector would ever want.!
Not the same place I went to as a kid almost 30 years ago. Tried to sell comics but lady was dry, under valued comics and offered me 30 percent of that. Telling me they barely paid anything would have saved us both time but conversation seemed to bother her. So I didnt sell my comics to the place I bought most of them from. Maybe ill try again in another 30.
Fantastic selection of everything nerdy and stellar customer service. The employees there answered all of my boys questions and even hunted down the specific comics they were searching for. This by far the best comic book store weve ever been to. They also hold live auctions through their social media which they recommended we use to buy the two missing comics we couldnt get in the store at the time. I highly recommend this store!!!
Pretty cool comic book shop. They carry a wide array of games, pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, you name it, in addition to the latest to vintage comic books. It was a bit overwhelming to go through back issues because there were just so much goodness in each row. I had the kids with me and didnt expect to want to stay for the amount of time I did to find specific issues Ive been looking for. Ill probably come back without my little ones and have a list/plan before digging. Ill definitely be back.
I go to this place all the time. Usually each weekend. With recent events they have proven to be some of the coolest people to deal with! The whole staff is friendly, helpful and rad. Cant give them enough praise. I usually go for magic cards but I recommend them for all nerd needs!
Fantastic place to go get comics. They also sell cards like pokemon and etc. Star Wars, GI Joe, Marvel collectables, game dice, posters, can also be found at this location. The store is also big inside and plenty of walking space between aisles. I would highly recommend this location to visit.
This is truly my neighborhood game store. They are always very helpful, genuinely warm and friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. I recently had a conversation with one of their staff members regarding getting started with painting miniatures. He took so much time assisting me not only with what I needed to buy, and how to use it, but also let me know what I neednt bother purchasing until I know if Im really going to get serious about the hobby. By the time I left the store, I felt like he had imparted the equivalent of an Associates degree worth of information to me. Thats what they do though at A-1 Comics. They go above and beyond to help, and make you feel at home.
Lmao this place is a joke horrible customer service I came in with 300 worth of Pokémon cards I get they have to make a profit but come on 35% is trash they offered me 100 dollars that’s not even 35 perfect can’t even do math horrible horrible place go to comic conmand in natomas they have 65 % way bettter customer service as well
Me and my dad went there to get Pokemon cards, everytime we opened Pokemon packets, we got really good cards and the chance of getting good cards was a 7/10 which is pretty good. It may be more money than we anticipate but its so worth it! So far its better than the comic store near my house so overall I give this store a 5 stars!
This is a comic store at at heart. While comics are not a large passion of mine they do fullfil other passions. That have trading card games like pokemon and magic, table top games, and a above average selection of Funko pop and collectable statues. The staff were all masked and friendly, most of the staff were sincere with help and seemed to enjoy themselves at work. The environment was clean and very tidy. Its simply a clean open comic store. Recommend for the nerd in us all.
A-1 was my first comic shop and continues to be my go to. They have a big selection of back issues and trades and can usually order anything not in stock with an extra 20% off. Everyone here is really nice, very knowledgeable, and always ready to reccomend great new reads. There have been plenty of time where Im not sure where to start with a character or story arc and theyve help me sort it out. A-1 also does a lot of cool extra curricular stuff like annual blood drives and Instagram live sales.
This place has the worst prices on Pokémon product and also some of the employees there don’t know jack about what they’re selling one guy was just sitting behind one of the desk not doing anything didn’t even offer to help grab cards or anything especially on release days there prices are jacked up when a lot of other places have stuff at msrp
A very large store, open and airy. Enough things that filled the store but not enough to make it look cluttered and messy. With a large selection of comics and a secondary selection of toys, cards, statutes its a true comic store. I was amazed of how organized this place is. I cannot recommend this store highly. It should be the standard of what comics stores should be
Before you begin saying, Why only 3 stars? Isnt the selection here good? It is. But the customer service is almost abysmal. I came in looking for cards and some help but everyone was either busy or conversing with other employees; not a single one was ready to assist me. I was crowding the display case of cards and none of them asked if I needed help. But theres other collective/comic/card shops in the area that do want your business.
Very friendly staff. Tons of choices for new comics, older comics, graphic novels, toys, games, statues. This is the place to go if you just cant find that comic youre looking for. Also they have very nice to hear mint/mint copies of all the books youre looking for. They even sell vintage toys. Awesome place!
Has a good variety of comic books and figures. Yet the pokemon section is limited and overpriced! The employees are knowledgeable and helpful. But it sucks that a Snom was priced at 15.00 dollars when after checking tcg it was 1 to 2 dollars. Deffinately wouldnt come here for a bargain. Inflation way to hi.
This store is huge, they have an extensive collection of cards for magic pokemon and yu-gi-oh, as well as one of the largest DND sections I have ever seen, and as the name suggests an astronomical number of all kinds of comics, and even manga, this is a wonderful place to shop
Best comic and gaming store ever. I say that due to the friendly staff, extensive selections there. If you cant find what your looking for or have any questions I found the staff extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It was even a good experience for my kids and the owner gave my 10 year old son a deal on an action figure he wanted to buy with his allowance. Cant say enough about this place except what are you waiting for go check it out!
Friendly and knowledgeable staff with a good selection of new games. The used game selection is the best in Sacramento. There is a wide range of comics and collectibles. The one downside is a small gaming area. The upside to a small gaming area is the parking lot always has spaces available. If youre looking for a comic, collectible, or out of print used game then shop at this location.
Really nice local comic and gaming store, this is their main location. This place seems to be more centered around comics than other locations, but they still do carry some table top and rpg stuff as well as some things like MTG. Really nice, friendly staff. The only downside of this location is that there isnt a lot of room for gaming and such. If you are looking for more of that, check out the Citrus Heights location!
Out of all the comic books shops that I’ve been to in the U.S., A-1 Comics does it the best!! No one beats them! They are literally America’s #1 comic book shop!! They’re always so helpful & nice. They have a multi store wide selection of just about anything that you can think of. Whenever I come back from traveling I always make sure I stop by! They’re that good!!
The staff are very welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable, and sociable. I enjoyed their witty banter in the background as I browsed. The parking lot was a little confusing to get into. I was astonished by the place! Tons of comic books, graphic novels, figurines and statues, board games, card games, and so much more.
There are only a handful of comic shops in Sacramento, but this one is by far the best. Big Brother comes close in second, but A-1 is my absolute favorite. The staff is friendly, and knowledgeable. The owner is very hands on and contributes to the everyday workings of the shop. Never had a bad experience.
A-1 has been very accommodating, and Sylvan students enjoy acquiring comic books as a token prize for their hard work. By providing a variety of options, students get very excited whenever a new edition comes out, and it enhances their reading skills. I encourage Parents to provide comic books as an outlet, as it is the way for a young child to get interested, as it seems that electronics has taken over and reading is a lost art form.Every time I go to A-1, I have received nothing but best service and they are very informative. Highly recommended!
I would give them 0-stars if I could. In my opinion this is a horrible comic store with horrible customer service and a disrespectful attitude on behalf of their employees. They are hypersensitive people and if your personality doesnt click with theirs then they will automatically block your eBay account from purchasing comics. Thats what they did to me. Very childish and immature behavior from a bunch of children who never matured into adulthood. I have read some of their other negative reviews here and apparently there is a pattern with regards to their poor customer treatment and bad attitude. They definitely need to brush up on their manners and develop some people skills.
Its ok as far as comic and game shops go. Some of the staff is great some are horrible yet continue to be employed by the company. They are decent on the comic side and can order anything (but so can everyone else). The gaming selection is only new or current edition which which they push hard but doesnt work for a true gamers that know older editions of some games are far better. Finally the mtg crowd here is every unfriendly and the clientele of a business is by far the most telling.
Of the 5 local comic book stores I took my grandkids to the two A-1 stores (Auburn Blvd & Roseville) are the nicest. Clean. Organized. Employees look professional. I used to take my son to A-1 when he was a kid. Now, the next generation is learning to love comics! And, read, read, read!
It is a great place it has just about every comic, collectable or game you need. The employees are great and knowledgeable. If you are looking for something specific or maybe Ill print you will have to pay more than other places but still worth it definitely come in thats the last place to check if you havent found it around they probably will have it.
Knowledgeable staff, nice selection of action figures, tons of comics and RPG supplies. Top notch comic book store in our area (and there are two locations, both equally good, in my opinion). I came here for action figures not carried by the mainstream stores like WalMart and Target.
This place is great. Friendly staff, fair prices, just what I would expect from a comic book store. They have all types of stuff too from MTG, to Pokemon to DBS for card games, allllllll kinds of comics, a great selection of statues and collectibles of the like, as well as posters and manga. If you need it they probably have it. Ambiance is exactly what I picture a comic book store to be: boxes of stuff coming in, the staff having a conversation about the Guilds in MTG and how they relate, no music, smells like books. I love this place.
Ive been a customer of this store and its multiple locations for around 16 years now. The first time I ever played Magic was in their old location. The staff here is above and beyond. They are super friendly and helpful and will do small talk with you. They have a great knowledge of cards and collectibles. This is one of my go to places for anything related to cards or Nerd culture. If for some reason youve had a bad experience here then I feel sorry for you because you must have been a terrible customer.
Overpriced comics and the staff isnt knowledgeable about why they are so overpriced. Went in to browse a few times and they are selling graded comics $40+ higher than their actual graded worth. They even sell ungraded comics for far more than they are worth. The staff is also unresponsive and rude at times. If your shop is pretty much empty an hour before closing you should put more effort into helping customers. You should also not allow customers to leave their trade binders on the counter. This started an argument between myself and another customer who accused me of stealing when I didnt even touch their binder. The employee sided with the other customer because they were a regular and asked me to leave. The employee watched the the whole time and I was no where near the guys abandoned binder. This store is a joke.
Big place but they only helped you when you go there and asked. And when I asked owner was upset cause it was in the middle of his friends conversation. Customer service and customers is 2nd, but hanging out and killing time is definitely their #1 priority. Pretty expensive and the game card room is much smaller. I’m not impressed. You wont find a diamond comic her unless your interested in paying 3x the market value, crazy! If you live far, dont take the trip; its not worth the hassle unless you want to just hang out with the owners. Local comic store is recommended.
Used to love this place, unfortunately there seems to have been a huge shift in staffing here and we no longer shop here, ever.Around Christmas time we came in looking for a specific Board Game and got horrible, horrible service. I get it, its the Holiday season. Youre stressed. But literally telling my boyfriend Oh well maybe this game just isnt for you in a condescending tone is NOT okay.We used to frequent this place 1-2 times a week. Now we will go literally anywhere else. They need a serious overhaul of staff or a serious attitude change. Its unfortunate that I used to love this place and now never want to step foot in it.
I love this place to death! i come every comic book day. JW, Jared, and Aly are the ones i tend to see and talk to the most. The store is always clean and full of back issues as well as new releases. They do have 3 locations, this however is not only close to me but I feel the best. This is the best place to buy comics in the city of sacramento hands down.
Amazing selection! Horrible, cramped play space. Browsing the board games is really awkward because you have to push in where the people are playing and put your butt in their face. Prices are a little on the high side, especially on Magic cards. I wish the sales would start on Friday instead of being one day sales so I could make it to one.
Cool little spot to geek out at. They have comics,DND/Pathfinder, magic cards and a LOT of them! Great spot to find a new board game, A lot of figurines (no anime 😒) Gundam models, Pop figures. And thats just the stuff that I know of. Definitely a cool place to just look in and see whats in there. They change the layout from time to time so its not the same old thing. Over all ready cool place!
Good gaming store. 4 stars instead of 5 because I bought an item from them that after looking closely at it looks warn and previously used. I cant consciously cant give a lower rating because I didnt fully inspect until I got home. I bought a caring case for card and when I got home noticed one of the zipper pulls missing and obvious ware on the zipper and other parts of the bag.
Been shopping with A1 since 1993 when they were at their old location. Comics, toys, collectables, accessories, rpg components, decent trading card inventory thats usually priced on point with other online retailer prices, they host social and competitive gaming events, and more often than not youll get prompt and courteous service. Easy to spend a lot of money here. They buy stuff everyday so their inventory is usually fresh. They can get busy and the staff can get spread thin so you may have to do a lot of the searching solo if youre a back issue collector. Still one of the best comic and collectable shops in the Sacramento area.
My husband loves the store he loves to get his comic books to inspire him because hes an artist and he likes to read the comic books and learn how to draw different characters which is pretty awesome to me hes an amazing artist and the store cell a lot of comics and great customer service as well
Highest priced shop in town. Charging $5 more on most variants vs other LCS and wall inventory is way off FMV. Will hold hot ticket books and claim no inventory and place those on eBay.If you dont know the value of your comics or collectables, dont sell them here. You will be sorely disappointed.
We need more places like this where people of nerd and pop culture can intermingle, hang out, play tabletop, and also possibly meet new friends in the process. Stellar service, amazing knowledgeable staff, and a wide selection of comics, cards, and pop decor. A-1 gets an A+ from this nerd! ^ w^b
Lots of inventory, however did not have the items I had dropped in for. Endless casses with Magic the Gathering cards seems to be massively overstocked. Consolidate the Magic cards floor space inventory down a bit and bring in alternative trading collector cards like Marvel Masterpiece sets. Lots of cool stuff but still drove to Rocklin to Kens Comics where I found two complete 1993 Marvel trading card sets.
Both the Roseville and Auburn Blvd. stores are great. Always pretty nice workers there and they have a lot of comics, trade paperbacks, and collectibles (that while fun to look at are too rich for my blood). Seems like everything is reasonably priced. Bonus: The Auburn Blvd. store has an old bank vault that now houses old back issues and stuff. Cool.
Its Christmas time and you dont stock Stan Lee anything? And your vault is locked in which you store your original artwork but you cant access it without a manager.....and the manager isnt there but he might be tomorrow on Christmas Eve. Dissapointed to say the least but on a positive note, there is wide selection of comics, figurines of all sizes, books and theme-related toys.
Unprofessional staff. Called and the phone rang 6 times before I got an answer. A little overpriced as not many shop here but still good prices. The employees here are the most fair when you trade in cards, they are sure to get you a great deal. Good selection of cards.
Nerds everywhere, look no further. This place has it all, except video games. They have tons of board games, d&d supplies, comic books, graphic novels, manga, magic the gathering yugioh, and more. This is my go-to location for board games, so it is definitely worth checking out.
I came on a very busy day for this location on a Saturday. Once inside I realized that the Current Pokemon Go craze already was Alive or Resurged the Gaming Crowds as this Place truly Specializing in the Gaming community. Yes Comic books are Main business but thru the 25 years Ive shopped here (and the Madison/Manzanita previous location)the Role Playing Games and more Popular the Card Gamers [Majic,POKEMON, etc] have Switched interest of most CBook fans. If you Need, enjoy and Into Gaming this Is Your Store for most of your Gaming Needs.
The staff here seem off in a world of there own . very distant from reality at this place. I would love to be able to say otherwise. It is all in your attitude and I do not contribute to negative behavior. Ill try back again one day (maybe).Once an avid reader of the comics .Derick E. Jaeggi

2022-03-31I have not walked inside a comic book store in over 20 years so it was very nostalgic too take a few minutes to visit this one. The staff was very friendly and kept the books I was looking for up at the front counter. He also took extra time putting out a few different series to me on the shelves. The books were extremely well organized and he knew where everything was like an expert. I did have a good experience and I plan on returning. I also noticed that there was a designated area with tables to play card or table games.

2022-07-28Great place for all ages to come an see what they have, from comic books, action figures, to board games like Dungeons and Dragons to Pokemon. Helpful staff who are knowledgeable to help you. Plus you never know at times who will stop an greet you as I got to meet the original Hulk himself. 2022-09-16A-1 is simply the best comic shop in the area, they have something for everyone. From card games and figures to new comics and high priced keys; they have the greatest selection. The staff at A-1 is also top notch, extremely friendly and genuine people, I truly feel welcomed and appreciated every time I visit.

2022-06-28Not sure what it is about the employees at this location, but NOBODY ever greets me or acknowledges my presence whenever I come in. Nobody ever asks if I need help or asks what I’m looking for. There’s always like 6 to 9 employees standing around, too. I normally have to look around for 10-15 minutes, not find what I’m looking for, and then walk up to the counter and ask the person at the counter for help. And it’s funny because THAT PERSON who does end up helping me turns out to be super helpful and super friendly. In a time where people can easily download their comics online or order everything from amazon you’d think an old school comic book store would be appreciative to their customers that are supporting them and keeping them in business. I’d advise management to take a better approach to customer service and try to make customers feel welcomed and taken care of. If I wanted a “self service” experience I’d just download and order everything online.

2022-07-28Has a lot of cards and comics but not as many manga or figures as other stores. Employees are nice and the store feels very cozy and nice. Main entrance is not on Auburn and they close the gate on that side most days so entering is a hassle but the nearby light is kind.

2022-07-07Im sure the owner pays for fake reviews. I went there for the first time and they told me theyd only offer 40-50% of market value, even with store credit, they would only offer 50% of market value max. The worker said We have to pay our employees. I counted 9 employees (just standing around). Why do they need 9 employees here, is it a joke? They are scamming customers in order to pay unnecessary employees.

2022-03-19Always love walking into this place. You get greeted right away and there is lots of unique collectibles here besides comics. We come here twice a month and our son always finds something he loves. The staff are knowledgeable and history gurus of them all.

2022-04-20This location is the main Comic branch of the A1s, go to the others for more card game related things.Their Magic and Pokemon selections are great but the Yu-Gi-Oh is severely lacking compared to before the COVID times. I met Daryl there recently, hes working really hard to bring back yugioh into shape for this location! There is definitely something to look forward to in the coming times for all 3 main card games at this store location.
