One of the best 24 hour fitnesses I’ve been to. It seems very clean and the outdoor area is quite big actually. Staff is always really friendly and helpful. Parking is easy here because it’s inside the mall area and it’s free for the first 2 hours. Also you can get your parking validated inside the gym if you need to. They have a wide range of equipment that all seems on the newer side. Looking forward to when the inside opens back up again. I’ll keep coming back. There’s other 24 hour fitnesses that are closer to me but this one is by the far the best I’ve found so far.
Their way of getting out of bankruptcy is by keeping your membership active and charging you for an extra month even though you canceled on time. And then when you call them (2 days after getting billed in my case), they cancel it and refund you the prorated amount. When you ask for a full refund, they talk to you in such a tone that asking for those couple of dollars ($3 in my case) is shameful.
Internet never works and if you ask for help their very rude and could care less. Yet they have 20 TVs and no one can listen to them anyways. When I asked for help they told me to watch it without audio and basically tough luck.Yet they have four people checking people in at the front desks when a gym member can do it automatically anyways.
A good amount of very nice equipment. Nothing is ever broken. Locker rooms are nice and clean, facility seems new. With parking garage now open, parking is easy and right next to the gym. I only show up when I know it wont be crowded, but I never have a problem getting access to equipment without waiting in the morning (before 7 AM) or later in the evening (after 9 PM). It would be nice to have more of an updated place to see when the gym closes (though, maybe it has only closed three times in the past 3 months for a few hours each time). They offer classes, though I have never been despite that theyre included with membership. Everything I dislike is ubiquitous with all gyms: contract memberships (unless you pay more), not the perfect ratio of equipment (there could be more squat racks), feeling that if I didnt like something nobody would care because theyve already locked me into a contract. Overall, Im satisfied with being a member and would recommend this place to anyone nearby- as long as you dont workout during peak hours.
I am new to this gym, and so have not had a chance to fully analyze the pluses and the minuses yet, but so far, I am very happy with it. The place has a positive energy overall, and all the staff members that Ive met have been exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Personal trainers that Ive worked with have been great, too. Easy going, know their stuff, motivating. Also this gym is not overpacked like some of the other gyms, and I didnt have to wait for any machines/weights even at peak hours, so far. Love the outdoor courtyard! Glad Ive joined!
Awful service, will never be going back. I went in looking to simply get the free three day trial as the website promises. After filling out the form online I went into the gym to finish registration. Lindsey, the associate helping me, informed me that I was unable to get a free trial, even for simply one day. She cited the facts that I am a college student (although I said if i enjoyed the trial a membership starting in the summer would be coming), and that I am not local (I live 10 minutes away from the gym...). She then tried to sell me a $65 one week pass which is a ludicrous price for very little time. Overall a terrible experience here. They will never be getting my business again, as I will go to LA fitness, as they were helpful with my free trial and offered quality customer service.
Circa 2005 style management and vibe. Overly aggressive meathead sales bros. Get with the times folks. Called in asking for a quote and the boy is asking about what my wife and I do for work? Mentioned the general field, but he felt he really needed to dive in further in order to really gauge what else he can sell me. Hung up, was gonna sign up. Douche. Think his name was Derek, and he should probably take it easy on the cool-aid.
Absolutely wonderful gym. Ive lost 165lbs in 15 months. Everyone there has been so nice and motivating. Especially the little tattooed firecracker in the mornings. Talk about an amazing woman. It motivates the heck out of me to see this tiny little person lift and exercise like a beast. It has lit a fire under me for sure. Gym is super clean and staff is super friendly. Highly recommend!
Locker rooms/bathrooms are almost always filthy. The entire outdoor area reeks of rat piss. Many of the machines are in disrepair. Expendable items like foam rollers, mats, fitness balls, cable handles, ropes, etc. are rarely replaced. In short, the place is really really poorly managed. And I havent even mentioned the fact that the entire mall is undergoing massive reconstruction. Parking is a bit of a nightmare and getting to the gym involves walking through half of the mall. Too bad this is the only 24 hour gym for miles around. I certainly wouldnt come here if it werent. The second star is for sheer number of machines, weights, etc.
Definitely the second best 24hr SS in San Diego (Carlsbad La Costa has towels and better parking). Soup to nuts has everything. The outdoor workout area is splendid with track, trx, dead lift equipment, kettle bells outside. Downside it’s always pretty crowded and parking is 2hrs free. Other than that it’s great; complete with spa, steam, pool.
Visiting SD for the weekend, got a free trial and only used once. They called me yesterday offering me an extra free day, got to the gym just now and was told the person mustve called wrong. They said I could either pay $25 for the day pass or pay $25 in merchandise and theyd give me a pass. Made the trip exclusively because I was invited to workout there again and wasted the trip. Would not recommend.
First off the people at the front desk for a really friendly. And I personally go to the gym to shower up get clean and this is what a perfect places for that because they have really clean bathrooms and personal showers. The caliber of people I see here I would rate as sexy and the outdoor workout area is a must.
So the place is smack in the middle of UTC, decent equipment, the open air workout area is terrific. 6-8 pm the place is usually overrun with fitness enthusiasts or amateurs like me. Internet is patchy in places but not too bad. My trainer Chase definitely is on top of his game. The management and guys at the front desk are super helpful. This is also why they get 5 stars - I have a 1 yr contract. But i was going to travel out of country. I wanted to freeze my account (yes they have that option, just ask). I froze it 1 day too late when the payment for the month had already gone out. I was hoping they could maybe reverse it or find some solution to it... The manager Gernard and the 2 guys at the front desk were super co-operative and solved my problem in seconds... Big shout to you guys...
You have everything you need here to get in a good workout. I really like the facilities &classes. The class instructors are the best, super professional and on top of their game.HOWEVER,I have been a customer for three years. When we started, the staff were friendly and super attentive. Now, NO ONE SAYS HELLO or goodbye, and I am there at least three times a week. When I walk out past the managers office and the guy is behind his desk looking at his phone. Doing nothing. No customer service. If I owned the club, I would be very unhappy with this situation, which is so easy to amend with real leadership and quality service- minded employee training.
Im not sure of his name, but he was someone with authority. I know this because he authorized my use of the gym today. My membership doesnt permit the use of Super Sport gyms. Anyway, the staff was nice and helpful. If a Super Sport membership was in the budget, Id consider upgrading to frequent here.P.S Parking is a nightmare in December, good luck.
Great gym! Has outdoor workout place, basket ball gym, pool, hot tub, men/women locker and shower, hot room, classes to join. Just a huge playground! They hand out complimentary towels for working out and showers. They have a very nice water bottle filler too which has to be my favorite part! If you can look past the construction (why parking sucks at the moment) then youll love it. I found parking near Macys is a better option for parking during the construction. I find it hilarious that people are complaining about walking more since the whole mall is under construction when youre going to a gym to work out..... Just silly lol.
Very clean gym with a nice variety of equipment. Theres a great outdoor area too. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. And I absolutely love the new power racks! Four stations with olympic rubber weights are great for deadlifting. Thanks! Also, the towel service is amazing.
Everyone at this gym had a good attitude, even the staff was good. It wasnt crowded at all. No gym rats hogging the equipment and no duffle bags in way for people to trip over them. The pool area was clean, the jacuzzi didnt have the revolving floating filth island. And best of there was no man drying umm, himself, off on the hand-dryer.
Of 24 Hour Fitness clubs in San Diego, one of the best. Locker room is cleaner than most, good selection of equipment. Outdoor area and parking should improve when mall construction ends in next few months. Still not a lux club, by any stretch, but you get what you pay for. Very crowded in early week from 4 to 7pm.
I frequent this gym almost 7 days a week and I will no longer recommend this gym to ANYONE. A few weeks ago I was attacked by two other gym goers. They robbed me and physically attacked me. I was so shaken up I went to the staff for help since this occurred in the womens locker room at night. Since this is a 24 hour gym I figured I would be safe at all hours of the night, the staff just shrugged their shoulders and barely offered ANY assistance. Not only was I physically and emotionally traumatized but on top of that I felt completely unprotected by the staff of this facility. Long story short- I just want to warn others. COME TO THE GYM AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Great facility, lots of equipment. Gets extremely busy when people get out of work (read: waiting for equipment). Dont be conned by their sales tactics, they push overpriced trainers on you hard during sign up. Parking for this whole mall is a mess so I bike there and it doubles as a warmup.
Nice gym but not staffed well enough. Came here at 4:30 and I was told daycare was full :-/. They seem to always have enough staff at 24 Hour Fitness to take my money for daycare every month. Theyre never understaffed for that. The girls in daycare are wonderful but management really is to blame for this.
Great customer service. Parking isnt bad if you know your way around the mall. Friendly staff. Great experience overall. I was greeted by Mike in the front who helped make sure I was taken care of and went above and beyond to ensure I had a positive experience. The guy I got my membership from was super friendy. The facility is cleaner and offers more than any other fitness center in the area overall.
No more towels. Youd think they knock off some from membership fee. Since theyre saving money on water and electricity plus no more labor for those doing laundry and folding. It just annoying since I usually dont have a towel on me. Lots of students come here and camp out on the equipment staring at their phones. Just kind of going downhill over all. Not sure how long ill keep my membership.
This is my first pair gym membership and I have to say that Im loving it. I feel like Im part of some elite society because its not cheap and I can finally afford to get massively massive (muscle-wise).I definitely thought it would be bigger, from an outsider looking in, and it gets disgustingly crowded when I go after work.I think my biggest disappointment is the pool. It is shocking that they only have a 3 lane pool here. They also have free wifi which is nice. It can be slow at times because of all the people trying to connect to it and its annoying to have to sign in every time to access the wifi. But it is nice streaming music on their wifi rather than using up my data. The steam room and sauna is nice, but its kind of hard to use it without showering and a full change of dry clothes. It gets super busy around 6-8 but I went at 10pm a couple of times and it was really nice as all the benches and machines were open.
24 Hour Fitness in UTC continues to be plagued with locker room thefts, despite being an upgraded Super Sport in a mall desperately trying to upscale its clientele. (Ive had my locker broken into twice at this gym.)Entrance to the gym is from the parking garage, which is convenient but feels like a soulless mass transit terminal.Gym is well lit inside despite the loss of natural light.Equipment is well maintained, but gets very heavy use.Gym floor is segmented into areas that accomodate different sports and fitness approaches, so theres something for everyone.Does not have adequate space for people to do independent floor exercises, such as stretching or yoga.Locker room feels small, overcrowded, and muggy, and continues to be a place where locker break-ins are common, and unsurprising, even to the staff.So... imagine if you crossed a busy airport terminal with a multisport gym and removed the security... Do not leave your items unattended. Enjoy your workout!
Slow wifi makes it hard to stream on spotify. Nothing worse than lifting a PR and the music just stops cause it cant buffer. Crowded af and filled with kids in groups of 4+ that have no gym etiquette whatsoever. Steam room/amenities close too early. Why the hell do they need 6 hours to clean a steam room? Balboa keeps theres open for longer. Staff at night are whatever. Parking is annoying during the day (obviously). Lastly, theyre going to stop providing towels on December 21, lmao. What the hell am I paying $44 for? Need to get myself a home gym ASAP.
My first visit to this location went smooth, my second visit they said I wasn’t able to go to super sport gym and when I asked what the difference was they replied 10 dollars... I was going to upgrade my membership right there if I was told what the actual different in gyms was. Then the staff member named Alex was extremely rude on my way out. I will not be returning to this location.
Wow. What can I say? Den of thieves doesnt describe this place well enough. Ive been given so much headache and wasted so much time disputing charges for an account cancelled long ago. I have been lied to an my intelligence questioned. I wish eternal damnation on all the staff there for all the stuff Ive had to put up with. DO NOT go here! Go to LA fitness or something else instead.Update 11/25:Rolled out my bed to see another charge on my card. The criminality continues. As I mentioned I have CANCELLED my membership long ago but these swindlers keep coming for money. Please whatever you do DO NOT GO HERE. Workout at home of you have to.
New to this 24hr ( mine is in La Costa) and use it when at my GFs. Location is great and gym has an excellent staff and good vibe. Packed during normal peak times (7am and 5pm) but otherwise has wide access. Has everything you need- only wish the XFit area inside was a bit bigger and that there were C2 rowers there and outside as well instead of only at the cardio area- but there is only so much space anyway. Gym is super clean. Kudos!
So, let me first say this is the nicest gym Ive ever been to. Consequently, everyone in the area comes here. 24 really needs to open more of these in the general area so that it isnt so packed. Its gotten to the point that I got a better workout at this gym pre-renovation. I leave the house at 5:00 to get to the gym at 6:00 and be able to leave for work at 7:00. Today was shoulder day. I could not find a piece of equipment to do shoulders on. Squat rack, nautilus machine, smith machine, or even dumbbells (I hate to use the dumbbells for this as I hate the size of the grips, Ive never seen grips this size in the 25 years Ive been lifting and definitely dont like these). I waited for 15 minutes to try and get on a machine. One squat rack freed up in that time, but I was a couple seconds too late to get to it. One of my favorite parts of the old gym was the military press rack. Rarely did you have to wait for it because, as far as I can tell, there is no crossfit exercise related to it. Sit and watch the squat racks and smith machines for a while and you will be amazed at the exercises you see. Eventually, it became clear that I wasnt going to have enough time to get a decent workout in so I took a shower and left.Unfortunately, the next closest gym for me on my way to work doesnt even have showers, the next one after that would put me right in the middle of traffic when it is time to go to work. Please open more gyms like this in the adjacent area to take some of the traffic. Also, please add some racks, whether it be smith or squat. The ones you have are almost always completely full. Id also like to see a traditional seated hamstring machine and a military press.
A third world gym in a great place. Equipment is rarely fixed and crowded with incredibly rude newbies. Location has been closed repeatedly due to construction but never updated the phone/web hours. Staff (excepting Russel) seems completely detached - except when blasting the loud speaker at max.Desperately searching for an alternative.
I signed up on a different branch so I had a little issue on my Account and then Marshall the Manager on this Branch helped me out. Couldnt asked for more, He made sure I was taking care of and yes this place can be a little busy at time but who cares that just means a Lot of peope come in and as long as u ask to share in between sets. You should be fine 💯
OK, so Ill preface this with the fact that the UTC mall is under a lot of construction and this review is for when they werent suffering from it. Right now I give it three stars only because its now a pain to walk from the distant parking lots to the gym. Normally, I give it 4 stars because its pretty much clean all the time and theres rarely a problem with the equipment like they have at Balboa.
Displeased with the staff, does not believe in accommodating the customer, and construction parking is a nightmare. So you dont go through the same headache I did, make sure you have a LOCAL California ID with you when you go to claim a 3 day pass. Im from out of town, went through the online sign up process to come workout, and then was turned away at the front desk because I was not a local resident.I went out of my way to find a 24 hour fitness and they return the loyalty by not allowing me to workout because Im from out of town. Never again.
Very crowded, especially during the post work rush. Terrible parking situation made even worse by the ridiculous construction going on that is supposed to finish in LATE 2017. And we all know how well construction companies stick to deadlines. Add that to the holiday buying season and a gym in a packed mall under renovation isnt exactly the greatest idea or experience.
Just moved here to San Diego from Portland and I’m looking for a new gym. Some tall guy turned my 3-day pass I redeemed online into a 1-day. He said, “one day is enough to see the equipment, that’s all I’m going to give you.” Then after I played basketball for an hour and was walking out the door he was very pushy and invasive about me getting a membership before I left. Terrible experience.
My BIGGEST complaint about the UTC location is their lack of cellular phone connection. UTC, can you PLEASE install a cellular repeater in your building?!? Your UTC Gym WiFi is useless, and a repeater would solve EVERYTHING.UPDATE on 3/26/2019 =As of 1/1/2019, all 24 Hour Fitness locations in Southern California have eliminate their towel service, regardless of the club level/type. They claim its to reduce their carbon footprint. This would be fine, BUT our membership fees have NOT been reduced accordingly! 24 Hour Fitness, if you are saving your money by NOT washing/providing towels, then the least you could do is buy a cellular repeater with OUR extra money!Lowering my rating from 4 Stars, to 2 Stars.
Today’s date is 9/16 between 12-1pm this has happened the worker named Chris working at front desk position/the desk rep or service man/sales person l/towel cleaner or janitor which it isHello my name is Arnie This review is only directed to one individual and his name is Chris. I don’t know caused his mood to go off or to lose face and and his role at his job, however the other workers employed there are very different in their professional behaviorA person named Chris, black hair with hair in bun is way I can describe - it has a tiny weird looking lift in the back that he has tiedI come often here to follow a program and I felt he was making fun of me with his co workers - it was very obvious. It was very easy if anyone in my position If you just saw that the scenario it’s pretty obvious. I’m not sure if it’s because my English is bad. I even made sure to check if what happened was true by revisiting and asking for wrist straps speaking with Chris indirectly - I though it was a misunderstanding but when I returned to the locker I overhear more insultsIt left me feeling emotionally affectedNot very professionalIf his duties were to work the front desk and clean he should do just that it has nothing to do with the patrons using the facility. I don’t know who he is and he is not important to me, but I continue to use. E favilcikty to experi nice that type of behavior I have to ask, was that included in my payment plan?I’m not sure why he chose to target me but I am very displeasedI do not like give my companies wrong reviews and maybe I am wrong, but I verified it and it is true to me. I cannot expect a big corporation to micro manage every person individualIf you have any questions please contact me directly- Arnie
Not bad, but very disappointed recently when manager and asst manager refused to intervene when pool was full and individual was ignoring 30 minute limit. He said he would stay in pool as long as he liked. A very unusual reaction (swimmers here normally quite polite) but one that deserved a response from management.
Similar experience as Leonardo. Just moved to San Diego and wanted to check out the gym, got the free 3 day pass but neeeded to show ID with San Diego address??? My license has yet to be updated, so I offered to show my bank statement as proof of address. Clerk denied BUT said that if I paid a $10 down payment for a membership he could let me have a pass. What a scam
Uncoordinated scheduling of classes. Same issues occur over and over. They don’t care about people’s time. Staff blames each other at the front desk . The manager has no direct line or email on her business card and per the front desk she doesn’t have a set work schedule , so they don’t know when she will show up at work.
Ive left my review on here before but 24 hour fitness pays 3 party companies to remove bad reviews. Ive had verbal arguments woth trainers and the manager about carrying a gym bag with my things, one of the trainers tried to fight me. Not a good way to do business! They dont care about you because they have so many customers to replace you!
Horrible customer service. So busy you can breathe. Parking is ridiculous. Have been trying to get out of my membership, even called corporate and no one cared. I will keep posting bad reviews weekly until my membership is canceled and if not, guess you’ll be seeing my lovely face until September.
I went in with a 3 day free pass but in the end I still had to pay because I’m out of town... did not like their fake advertising and unclarity in promoting free passes. Staff were also unhelpful in explaining their policy.. well update your website so I don’t have to waste my time and money (25 bucks per entry). Never coming here again.
So I decided to look for the local 24 Hour on the My24 app and found one 3 miles from where I was working. Instead of fighting traffic, I would run there, lift, run back then go home when traffic died down. I get there to find it closed, which the app didnt mention. On top of that they are turning it into a Super Sport so I wouldnt be able to go there anyway. My membership expires next month, Im thinking Im just going to finish stocking up on my home weights on not waste my money anymore.
Member since 2000Recently moved here from Phoenix and have been going between Carlsbad, Encinitas, and UTC. The UTC gym ended up being the most convenient and due to the super sport I was excited to go here more frequently.Unfortunately, it was rough from the start. From the beginning I was asked to double my membership due to the fact the new gym (15 feet away) would be offering towel service. After being told that nothing was available for me I simply called the corporate help line and was allowed access to this gym for my continued membership. Great customer service saved a client, no matter the value. That great customer service from the corporate office does not transcend to the newly spawned super sport utc. The staff seems lost in their approach to an up-scale gym. I use term that loosely in this case. An amazing facility being bogged down by faulty management. They do not communicate with clients, but focus on beefing up memberships. Theres a simple saying: Hug your customer. Time to focus 24hr.....
This is a awesome location.. but the selection of workout machines at this location is terrible unless you are just wanting to do indoor cardio.. tons of exercise machines but very little in lifting and actual useable gym equipment.. not to mention there is a Fat class or some rude personal trainer running a fat camp or one on one training. Personal trainers here are rude and act Like its their own personal gym.. never any available hours for working out here... there is always some fat boot camp for the masses that cant figure out how to workout on their own... not to mention they hog the exercise areas they use or machines.. and as a paying member im not sure why your personal trainers and classes are always given the preferential treatment.. Im a paying member but I have to constantly change my workout hours or schedule to accommodate your personal trainers or fat camp classes... if im working out at your gym and im in an area first I shouldnt be hurried along my workout or asked to leave a certain area cause you have decided to create a class for the lazy, unmotivated, or what ever other patron you seem to cater to vs treating all paying members equally... so all in all the staff here are terrible, the gym has limited equipment and the facility is not very clean... so dont get your hopes up coming here, its just another 24 that caters to members that takes classes not all members.
What a disapointment! They only offer very few worth while classes and they never switch around the times so if you are a working person then you are pretty much stuck with the same 3 classes, two of which are AWFUL!Dont bother with Turbo Boot Camp because it is more like Shuffle around and try and figure out what to do than a true boot camp workout.

2022-07-07Overall, the gym has a nice selection and location, but cant give it more than 3 stars as the bathrooms are out of order for too long and/or should be kept cleaner. Moreover, the staff at times just seem to sit at the front desk rather than cleaning equipment. stacking weights, etc.

2022-02-28Ive been going here for over 10 years, only because of location. They continue to remove amenities but still have you pay the same, if not more. Machines regularly break and arent fixed quickly, weights are always disorganized, and better cleaning is needed. The customer service is good, even though a lot of things are out of their hands.

2022-06-28Workers are very friendly, however, I notice they do not clean the floors here. Bathroom stalls stink worse than the ones at mission beach. Mens bathroom is always dirty and I never see any maintenance people working here, only front desk people and sales. More people workout here than Carmel Mountain 24 hour fitness, yet Carmel is always clean and the equipment there is much newer and maintained. Ive seen attempts to hire a cleaner at UTC, but then they disappear within a couple of weeks. This gym is so large one person cannot keep it clean by themselves. Management should know to hire more than 1 person for this job. My hunch is that 24 hour corporate cutting their overhead costs down by not fixing this gap here. Glad I bring my sandals when I come here, because this is an environment where athletes foot and staf infections are bound to happen if you touch anything.

2022-03-27I come here at during the graveyard shift with my girlfriend. Usually anywhere between 2am-4am and my only complaint is the free weights are never in order and always on the ground. But the staff are nice and friendly.

2022-06-30They wont let you cancel the membership, and charged me 22.99 one week after I signed up for the one dollar initiation month. What a scam:/??

2022-01-11This gym it’s the Super Dirty and unorganized 24 Hours. The workout room is always freezing, the machines are old and it’s always very crowded. I moved from Long Beach and the super gym there was perfect. I really wish there was another one nearby.

2021-12-29They no longer have the Freemotion elite incline trainers. The absolute best treadmill. Especially for anyone with balance or arthritis issues. They replace new machines with older ones. Shame in 24 Hour Fitness. They are not member driven!!!

2022-07-11I like this gym a lot but the wifi service is not great. I wish the wifi worked in the entire gym.

2020-03-08This place is huge! Really maintained well and a lot of equipment and services to use. I would highly recommend getting a membership here!!
