A pretty decent hotel experience. The lodgings were fairly basic, nothing bad but nothing which stood out either. Four walls and a roof. The bar/diver next door had $3 pints which was pretty awesome. I was fairly happy with the continental breakfast options. Overall it was a positive experience and, with some caveats, would recommend to others
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were a good size. The only drawback for me was the window above the door because the bright lights on at night were shining right on to the bed. Other than that, my stay was great. The location is perfect for walking to Old Sacramento. It only takes about 5 minutes. The free breakfast was also much better quality than other places Ive stayed. The eggs were real eggs, which is definitely a plus. I would stay here again.
This is an older motel so expect problems, occasionally losing power in half your room because the fuses get tripped or the elevator doesnt work. I personally was stuck in the elevator for about 10 minutes, fortunately it wasnt hot and one of the motels maintenance staff was stuck with me so Im sure that made the time waiting a lot shorter. The rooms are pretty quiet in that you dont hear the people next to you or above you and being next to the freeway you dont hear the freeway traffic, but being downtown you do hear the big groups of motorcycles riding by and the protesters for one cause or another walking or driving by. The convention center and a small small are within walking distance. Amtrak and light rail are also within walking distance. You can find grocery stores, convenience stores and department stores within 5 miles. The American River, the bike trails and Old Town Sacramento are just a bike ride away.
Much nicer than I expected! the pool and hot tub area was very comfortable and seems newly renovated with a glass wall, decking and nice outdoor furniture. Comfortable bed and linens, very clean and comfortable room and public spaces. microwave, fridge, big flat screen TV with direct TV long hours for free breakfast 6-10am. great price and location steps from train station. was very flexible with my arrival reservation. nice surprise.
Rooms need fixing. Kind of run down. Clean enough, just needs a complete remodeling. The breakfast is great. Full hot breakfast, two kinds of scrambled eggs, potatoes, oatmeal, sausage in steam servers. Waffle maker too. Pool is nice, clean and well kept. Great location, just wish the rooms were better.
You all are way too generous on your reviews!!! The room for $180 was a rip off!!! It was smelly and dirty!!! The queen bed’s mattress in room 336 was uncomfortable and off balance...the mattress was jacked up. I’m surprised no one has mentioned the bathtub. I’m 5’6” and my daughter is 5’4” and couldn’t fit comfortably in there. That has NEVER happened to me. We were both looking forward to relaxing in the tub first. On top of that there wasn’t a way to stop the water for having a bath...no plug!!! The room definitely needs to be renovated along with the bathroom!!!!!!Prime location though. I won’t return unless I know that the place has been updated.
Good price, very comfortable beds, blankets were very warm. But the light in the bathroom was hardly working, was almost in the dark in there. The office and the room alike both had this musky smell to it. Then about 1am was trying to sleep and there were people outside at other motel next to us partying and drinking and getting very loud, it went on for a while, was hard to sleep. But the plus side is their complimentary breakfast, it was great, you serve yourself, they had scrambled eggs, sausage links, country style potatoes, fruit, cereal, muffins, coffee, juice, milk, and even make-your-own-waffles., couldnt complain there.
This place was lovely for my first stay in California overall. The maids that take care of my room daily do not get enough credit and Id like to thank them for being so meticulous with taking care of my room! Breakfast daily here was a huge plus, saved me some money and on a scale from 1-10 Id say its about a 5. Everyone here is nice, not a lot of homeless wandering around and enough security to make me sleep at ease at night.
Hotel is at a great location but our room was not to the best standards. We were right by the pool, but at night there were strange people walking around even though there is security. Pool and jacuzzi was nice, which my kids enjoyed, staff is nice. Carpet in room was dingy and stained. There was water rot on the door frame to the bathroom, bathroom tub is outdated and shower head is loosening from the wall, the sink is rusted, counter is cracked, appliances are dusty, rusty, with fingerprints. Also, the cable didnt work. For the price I expected a little more.Vouchers for breakfast were nice, we really enjoyed the waffles, sausage good, eggs - meh.
Excellent motel somewhat dated but well cared for and very well located. Sacramento is a beautiful city, the old town and the train museum are very close to this Motel. We arrived by train from Seattle to visit the Napa Valley and this hotel is very close to the station. Beautiful stay.
Solid 3 star hotel and a good value.Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Its an older hotel that has been remodeled. That means it has old bones and a few legacy bits. Each room has a large window. Great for light, not so great for noise. If youre facing the street, youll get road noise, the pool, kids playing. None of this bothered me, but it might be an issue if youre in the get off my lawn crowd. There was a Thermador coil heater in the bathroom. You dont see those anymore and is a throwback to the hotels old bones. It was quirky, and I rather like a little heat when getting out of the shower. The pool is 8ft deep which you dont see in New hotels. My kids loved the pool and hot tub.Breakfast was better than most at this price range. Nice spread of proteins, carbs and a little fruit. The food was clearly cooked in the restaurant which I genuinely appreciate. Its all too common these days for a hot breakfast to be perfunctory microwaved spread. I liked the eggs and country potatoes.I didnt interact with the staff much, but when I did, everyone was friendly.Reviewers have mentioned safety and the homeless quite a bit. There are homeless nearby. Its California and unfortunately they are a piece of the social fabric. That being said, they were mostly pushed out of the area and none within sight of the property. I walked through Old Town and DOCO with my two littles at night and didnt feel unsafe. All in all, its a good value for what it is offering. I would absolutely stay here again.
The room was clean. This is a no frills hotel, the rooms were not well sound proofed and road noise was an issue. Breakfast was plentiful but the hot foods were room temperature or cold and the cold foods were room temperature as well. Staff were not friendly or particularly helpful. Enterance was hard to find. It was walking distance to train station and old town.
Great location to access Old Town and easy off the I-5. Requested a room change at no additional cost. My wife forgot her jewellery case in the original room and she didnt realize it until a few days later when we had reached our destination. With one phone call they had her case and sent it out by mail that very day. We appreciated the honesty and promptness of the returned item. Thanks again!
Was pleasantly surprise, The room was wonderful and the staff where so friendly. The front desk clerk Theresa took good care of us, and the young lady that drove us to the amtrak station was so sweet. The breakfast was great. Nice selection. We arrived at 4 in the morning because our train got in 4 hours late and they were so accommodating. Our experience was a five star
Its definitely not the worst place Ive stayed, however, it isnt the best. Room was okay. Basic hotel room. Can use some updates. Bed was comfy and pillows fluffy. I didnt understand why they have earplugs when I first got into my room. Now, I know. Right across from the train station and on top of freeway. Its just like My Cousin Vinny movie. Very loud!! However, very beautiful train station built in 1925...Im going to check it out in my off time...
Well, bed was more comfy than expected for a low rate/ star hotel. Internet is a joke...1mb speed, they must have dial up or something, so slow it kept disconnecting. Tv also didnt work, picture was constantly pixilating. I did like that the Jacuzzi was 24 hour, and that they allow pets. But do not disturb sign wouldnt stay on the door and we were woken up multiple times by housekeeping on day we would have liked to have gotten some sleep in time. Overall not bad, they charge for your car to be parked which they didnt mention on the phone, so that was $23 of unexpected expenses.
I chose to stay at Vagabond because of the price. It was much cheaper when I reserved than the hotels near it. The hotel room was clean and neat. Nothing really fancy but thankfully it was not dirty or moldy. The hotel is right by busy roads but if that is noisy the hotel does provide earplugs for you. The coffee was not good. The pool is small and the morning breakfast buffet was nothing to be excited about but its included with your stay, so if you want a cheap stay with breakfast close to downtown I would recommend it.
This is an excellent value. The rooms were clean and well appointed, the bed and pillows were comfortable, and there were nice white sheets (polyester), and a white faux down blanket. There was a very nice TV, a mini-fridge, and free WiFi that was fast enough to stream Netflix. The free breakfast was a little better than expected, too. I didnt try the gym, but looked clean, with a variety of machines available. Several reviews mentioned noise as an issue, but I stayed on the pool side (not highway) and everything was very quiet, and they do provide complimentary earplugs in every room. Overall this was great value, Ive paid much more for similar rooms, and I will definitely be staying here again.
Good location near old Sacramento and especially the train station and train museum. DOCO super close too. Included breakfast is a nice bonus. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If the staff didnt smoke everywhere and the cafe didnt generate so much trash instead of washing dishes Id give it 5 stars.
It was an okay stay. Was on the first floor near the pool and lobby. There was non-stop, very loud traffic and the doors seem to not seal off the noise, very noisy. Room smelled like cigarettes upon arrival but the smell wore off after a while. Otherwise its a clean and affordable hotel.
Good place to stay for short visit or if you are on a budget.Cons:Older property setup motel style (all rooms open to outside walkways). Lots of noise from outside due to older doors and windows. Some smaller repairs/upkeep needed. No plugins for electronics readily accessible.Pros:Really convenient location for downtown & Old Sacramento. Staff very friendly and free breakfast was much better than bigger chain hotels. Bed and pillows were very comfortable.Overall with a little more fixing up this place would be great.
I have stayed there for many years. I always bring bicycles with me so the ground floor, outside entrance, is easy access. Everytime I stay they always seem to be doing improvements. We went in this time and unfortunately they had the pool and hot tub closed for repairs. All in all a good place to stay.
Was an OK hotel. Paper thin walls took away from the benefit of a good location and clean rooms. They do provide ear plugs, which is nice but they were low a quality and slipped out of my ears. It was a nice 5 minute walk to old Sacramento, which was pretty and on the river.
Big rooms that are very clean. Good location near old town. Walking around the hotels neighborhood at night is asking to be hassled by the numerous homeless in the area. but the hotel itself is quite secure. The morning breakfast bar was better than the usual hotel fare.
For the price, its a great deal in a good location. FREE PARKING! Free buffet style breakfast with eggs and sausage, delicious pancakes, and beagles, hashbrowns,... Whens the last time you got that at a $100/night hotel? Maybe 20 years ago! Also, beds are very comfortable and the air conditioner worked very good even on the hottest and damp day of the year! Very family friendly with many kids playing in the pool.
The hotel was standard, and everything was clean. Very convenient being right off the 5 and in a good location if you want to hang out in old town. What really made the stay exceed expectations was the friendly staff. Very helpful and cordial, and you can tell they liked their job. That and fresh baked cookies at the front desk...
If you are going to Old Town Sacramento, you cant get a closer hotel. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We stayed here in 1985 for our 1st wedding anniversary and they still look the same inside and the age is showing! Mine too, but we dont need to go there! :) The bathroom door stuck real bad after a shower, a chunk of the door was missing and not painted. The sink still had the silver ring around it like the 60s and the counter top was stained from coffee from the in rm coffee machine. The free breakfast was rubber pellet tasteless scrambled eggs, ok sausage, and the usual fresh waffle you make. That machine was clean and in good working order. The dining room was huge and could accomodate enough people, unlike many hotels with 5 tables. Nothing to write home about but adequate and clean. Owner, it is past time to remodel!!
Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Loud outside. Bring earplugs. This hotel is located at the base of an on ramp near old town. Every person that walks by your door you hear. You also hear a lot of the traffic. This is no fault of hotel but one does not get a good nights rest.
Very very nice hotel, we spent there a couple of nights and it was perfect. Clean, nice pool, good breakfast at the restaurant right next to it. Close to the highway and most of all close to the historical neighborhood so you dont need to drive to visit.Excellent for me.
Staff was fantastic, room service was terrific. Couldnt ask to be in a better location if you want Golden 1 center, shopping, old town and great food. The rooms themselves are old and dated. Very reminiscent of a motel 6 but all of the other above mentioned makes up for it.
5 minute walk to the Golden One. The rooms are clean, even if theyre a little dated, but that keeps the cost down. The breakfast buffet is better than most, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Pool and hot tub are clean and towels are available. Dont be mislead by the name Vagabond this is a nice place to stay.
Well we had to pay $20 for a second vehicle parking pass which is ridiculous... Were a family of 5 listed in the registration but only had 2 towells in the room. The TV did not work so we had to also get that addressed. The room and pretty much entire establishment is very outdated. Our towell rack was hanging on one side with 1 screw. And the worst was people openly smoking weed right outside the rooms on the balcony! And people fighting in the parking lot😳 Horrible experience! We will def never stay here again
This is a nice, middle of the road hotel. Its clean, well kept and quite comfortable. My room had a good sized fridge, microwave and a nice tv with satellite. It is a 5 minute walk to Golden 1 Center or Old Town. I will stay here every time I come into town for a Kings game.
We stayed at the Vagabond in twice in April for training for my job. The hotel is located a block from Old Town Sacramento. Free parking for guests. Room was clean, furnishings were typical of a mid level hotel room. Room had Fridge and microwave, and a good sized flat screen TV. Cable was direct TV with Hbo. Hotel has free breakfast at the connected restaurant. Breakfast food was buffet style with scrambled eggs, waffles, toast, sausage, potatoes, cereal, hard boiled eggs and oatmeal. Overall good value for location and amenities.
Ist very loud because you hear the door next room, you hear the nearby road and the front windows and the door arent well isolated against the noise outside. I woke up several times ,because I was thinking someone tried to open our door, but it was the neighbors room door. The room was clean and in good shape. Breakfast is nearby in a restaurant, it was okay.
I stayed at the Vagabond Inn Executive Sacramento since it is very close to the Amtrak station and Old Sacramento, which was very convenient with a short walk to both places. The room I stayed at was clean and had all the amenities that I needed. Service was great from when I first stepped into the lobby. The employees that I encountered were all nice and helpful. I also really liked the shuttle service provided. There was also a hot breakfast buffet provided for hotel guests with a good variety of food. I would highly recommend the hotel to others and would stay at the Vagabond in Sacramento in the future.
Worked in a pinch. Very friendly service but nothing over the top. Room was clean and quiet, everything worked. Right across from the Amtrak station. Breakfast was a regular spread, with bagels, toast, fruit, and oatmeal for vegan options. Fun fact, the hotel uses VoIP.
Easy access from i5, nice clean room, has a pool and hot tub (the jet button is next to the emergency shut off button, took me a while to find it) .. little dated bathroom, but comfortable beds and decent blanket. Friendly staff, Has a nice little bar and restaurant in the parking lot.. a nice easy but confusing pedestrian crosswalk(the entrance is in the transit stop) over the bridge to a little burger bar in a old firehouse. Will definitly stay here next time I am in Sacramento.
Hasnt been remodeled since the 70s. There is absolutely no sound proofing, the restaurant food is ok but there are health concerns with the leaks all over. The needs are comfortable and the location is convenient. Staff is not friendly. But for a cheap place to stay in a good location is ok.
Stayed here since it was near old sac after a night out with friends.Never stayed here before but wasnt disappointed. The room was clean,bed/pillows amazing and the free breakfast was more then expected (eggs, sausage and etc buffet ). The best part was the price under $100..We have found our new hotel after a night on the town .....
Well located just few steps from Old Sacramento, managers very friendly and room clean and with all comfort. Just 3 stars beacuse of the noise from the highway (dooors and Windows are not completely insulared) and from people who come in other rooms during the nigth. Rooms seems quite old and Breakfast is just basic.Good if you have to stop just One night or two and need a central location with private parking.
The high touch areas should be extra disinfected right now with COVID-19. However, I brought my own disinfectant wipes and they turned brown with just one wipe of one arm on a chair and another one on the buttons for the air conditioning. Im thankful I brought my own disinfectant!
My wife and I recently attended a business conference in Sacramento. Unfortunately, we were not able to stay at the host hotel for all four nights that we were there. So we ended up reserving a room for just one night at the Vagabond Inn.On the good side of things, the staff was fairly friendly, they offer a complimentary breakfast each morning, free Wi-Fi access, and, surprisingly, they offer a free shuttle service to and from the airport and other local nearby locations. In fact, right after we checked in, the shuttle service took us over to a local restaurant where we had a nice meal.On the darker side of things, when we first entered our room we were accosted by a foul, musty smell that irritated our senses. My wife was actually overwhelmed by it, and it made her nauseous.Upon entering the room there were several stains on the carpet, and the linens on the bed looked old and in disrepair. My wife instantly wanted to stay at another hotel, but due to time constraints, we simply stayed there for the night. While I was in my conference the next day, my wife checked out and simply requested shuttle service to our other hotel, which was less than one-quarter of a mile away.Sadly, they refused my wifes request, saying that she had just checked out and they could not provide her that service. Any quality hotel should have gladly accommodated my wifes request with all of our luggage that she needed to transport!Instead, she was forced to take a taxi cab that overcharged her for the meager drive.I highly recommend that you stay at another hotel that will be glad to help its paying patrons to enjoy their stay.I do give them credit, however, for having found a lost item in our room and returning it to the front desk staff. That allowed my friend and colleague to grab my lost item and send it back to me.Overall, I probably would not stay here again due to its uncleanliness and lack of service. Its worth it to pay a little extra and stay at a better hotel.
Hi and how is everyone. And when i say that i really mean it. Like when you are crossing the road some one speed up or slow done. Slow done then by bye. Say bye bye dont look back. Thank you. THANK YOU once agian. THANK YOU. And THANK YOU. Again for all your happy faces. Thank you dealing me. Thank you again. There are many of you people out there that might be president of some high ranking company. Whatever it maybe thank you. Go Niners. Pease out. THANK YOU. Food was very good.
NOISY! Its the middle of the night and next to impossible to sleep in this place. First, it less than 100 feet from the on-ramp to a major freeway. Cars and trucks are accelerating all night. Also, right now there is a street-person party going on in the parking lot with very loud music.
Actually the hotel is fine, its the new policy that sucks! I stay in Sac at least 6 times a year and have always brought our rescue dog, who by the way does not bark or have accidents! Well they are still listed as pet friendly but are not and sadly this change came about due to the new manager, Gage, who must be allergic or afraid of animals. I wonder how much business Vagabond has lost due to this new policy and if it is worth keeping the new manager for the lost revenue!
Dingy room, loud environment. Breakfast buffet ill-stocked with low-quality food (the biscuits to go with the gravy were particularly bad; like little rocks). Juices all watered down. The only saving grace (and the reason for 2 stars instead of 1) is the convenience to Old Town Sacramento, which was a 5 minute walk (although across a very busy exit ramp).
Ive stayed here 4 times since March 12. Everything works,. Everything is clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet at 7AM is wonderful and commensurate of a much higher-priced hotel with scrambled eggs, sausage, bagels, waffles, etc.I live in Northeast Sacramento - rather than drive-and-park or take a taxi (overnight Sacto metro bus service does not exist) to board an Amtrak train at +/- 7AM, Ill simply check into the Vagabond at 3PM THE DAY BEFORE, enjoy some big-screen cable TV and free wi-fi, partake in the breakfast bufftet, check out early and literally cross the street to the Amtrak station feeling thoroughly refreshed and rested.Anybody who stays at the Vagabond Inn, 95814 solely because its across the street from the Amtrak station, I dont blame you. Why WOULDNT you? It makes absolute perfect sense!:)
They towed my car, and my friends car, even though we payed the extra $20 fee for the second car. $800 and an uber ride later... we got our vehicles back. They said it is out of their control once a tow truck has taken a vehicle, but they obviously called and had them tower in the first place! Never again.
The bag about hotel its a lot better it has a nice bed frigerator microwave very clean nice pool jacuzzi sitting area in the lobby so nice place to have a good overnight stay the staff its a little bit funny but they seem to get the job done they have Wi-Fi which makes it good and its not extra which makes that sound better too cuz youre already paying for the room he says Central located in the good area if youre going to meet with some people from the Capitol building
The hotel is o.k. and near old town Sacramento. The only thing that caught me kind of strange gwas the security at this place. Nobody can enter hotel without having a security card, well at least for the first floor. Each door has a lock mechanism that only opens through a hotel issued card, but there is also a set of stairs just outside the door. If you take the stairs to the second floor, you dont need anything to enter the hotel and you can just take the elevator down to the first floor.
This time wasnt a very nice stay i was charged a $100.00 deposit n was told i would get my deposit wen i chked out well i chked out at 7am ths morning n still no refund really people the clerk was very rude dont thk ill b returning n thats sad ....that clerk should get thgs stright r mayb find another job

2022-04-23Very verydissappointedd as this is where we usually stay while in town as they are close & convenient to Old Sac BUT this time we were unable to get a room due to them being closed to the public. They are housing the homeless now. SO dissappointed! Will now have to find a new place to stay while here

2022-06-23This place is now a motel program for the homeless the program is cool but staff is ok. Could be slightly nicer but they eventually get the job done.

2019-11-04Great location for those attending events at the Golden 1 Center. Walking distance to Old Town Sac and Golden 1 Center. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was adequate. Could use some updating, but overall we were happy. We were also treated to some interesting opera singing from the neighboring apartments.

2020-03-05I’ve stayed at this location before and it was fine.Recently I was In Town for the Miranda Lambert concert. When i went to the lobby to check in the man behind the counter acted like my being there was a nuisance. I paid a early check in fee because I arrived 1.5 hour early which was fine. I also paid a parking fee which was new as I didn’t have to pay it when I was there a couple months earlier, but still I was fine paying it.When we got to our room we unloaded our luggage and crashed in bed for a nap after driving for hours. I went to use the restroom and the toilet seat had urine dried all over it.I went back to let the front desk know and he just looked at me with an annoyed face and said he would send someone up to clean it...never apologized or anything. After waiting for 20 min no one showed up to clean the bathroom so I went back to the lobby to request a new room.I wouldn’t have even been upset about the situation if the customer service was better.Oh and they no longer offer the continental breakfast like they did when I booked. So the service went down and the fees went up.

2019-11-06The rooms are pretty good, nice beds and linens, spacious for a less expensive hotel downtown. Great location for visiting old Town, or going to an event at Golden 1 center. Quite adequate breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, waffles and the other things you would expect.But.... If its an event day, parking will fill up so you will have to park in the public garage under the highway which is fine but $$. The satellite TV was not operating so, no TV. Internet was not usable, either a signal so weak it would not stay connected or so slow you couldnt do anything. Found this to be the case on my laptop and phone. Exterior could use a good scrubbing as well. I realize that it was very busy and the hotel was full too capacity. I think they might have been overwhelmed.I would give them another chance if there was internet and TV!

2019-11-30The best thing about this spot was the location. 2 blocks from the venue, The golden one Arena. The Room had a funk of urine we couldnt quite place where it was. Thank God we were only there for one night, and when we got in the Room after the show it really didnt matter. The staff is extremely friendly and will go out of their way to help. I think the only thing they need to improve on is the quality of their Room cleaning. For the price and the location it was perfect for our needs.

2019-06-20What can I say, you get what you pay for. Definitely not the Hyatt but a nice place to stay. I do have to say the room was clean, the Linens were clean, and it was a good place to rest our heads. Its a short one block walk into Old Sacramento which was very convenient. The staff is also very friendly and accommodating. We did not eat the continental breakfast so I cannot give any feedback on that.

2015-10-22Best hotel experience weve ever had! Everyone who worked there was always smiling and was super nice. The free breakfast was over in the restaurant right next to it. The pool and got tub was NORMAL colored, everything in the room was so nice and clean, and we were SO close to everything. Amazing. Definitely worth your money and most definitely coming back again.

2018-02-03This hotel was absolutely magnificent! Me and my dad were doing a once in a life time road trip and by the point we arrived here, we had been to 13 states and this hotel blew our minds. Staff were unbelievably friendly professionals, rooms were very, very nice. Pool area was the best we came across. We booked for one night but since the place was so nice, we had to stay for another night.Hotel is also a short walk away from the old town and that place is brilliant. I would come back here any day!

2018-04-23The staff were very nice and helpful. They managed to squeeze us in last minute after our airbnb fell through on us. They were conveniently located next to old town and the golden 1 center. Both of the rooms we stayed in were clean and comfortable. They also offer a full complimentary breakfast in the mornings for a nice change of pace.
