I made the switch from USPS PO Box to a UPS Mail Box, smartest move I have ever made. Service is OUTSTANDING compared to the bureaucratic, rude, I-dont-give-a-care-about-you Post Office. The switch is significant because I have used Post Office Boxes since my days at CAL in 1978. I had finally had it with the USPS when my PO returned to sender a $40,000 check I was expecting. After that debacle I explored the Embarcadero UPS Store. When I heard that the service was better, price was lower, and the store had LOTS of additional mail features than my PO Box had, I quickly signed up for a UPS Mail Box.Why is UPS Better:CUSTOMER SERVICE: The UPS employees at the Embarcadero Store are friendly, respectful, courteous, efficient, competent, and kind. USPS employees are rude, insulting, incompetent, lazy, and make lots of mistakes.UPS e-mails to inform me that a package has arrived, and tells me the shipper and tracking number (e.g. ,USPS, FedEx,). USPS has a similar feature, but the e-mail does not provide details to the level UPS.FEATURES (That Make UPS Mail Boxes Stand Tall Above All Others)HOURS - My Post Office was open 9 to 5; Closed Sat-Sun. UPS retail hours (meaning UPS employees are there to help you) are 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM, M-F; 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM Sat.; closed Sun.Retail hours notwithstanding, with UPS you can opt for 24/7 access to your mail box! For an additional $5 monthly UPS gives you a door key that allows 24/7 access to your mailbox!STREET ADDRESS: Your UPS mail box address acts as a street address. So all your eBay and Amazon packages shipped by Fed Ex, UPS, DHL, USPS, etc. will be accepted by the UPS store.Trivia: The USPS sent me notice around 2012 that it was offering free to PO Box customers that they could now use the PO Box as a street address, the same as UPS, for example. I signed up for that service. About 95% of the time USPS employees would NOT accept, for example, FedEx packages or envelopes. That $40,000 check I mentioned above, yes, that was in a FedEx envelope the USPS employee was supposed to accept. (That was the last straw and motivated me to check out the UPS Store mail boxes.)NO MORE LINES: At the USPS Post Office I always had to wait in lines. Thats why I hated having to do business with them (e.g., to inquire about a package that did not arrive). I knew I would have to wait in line for 10 to 20 minutes.Again in contrast, when I visit the UPS store theres never been a line.E-MAIL NOTIFICATIONS: I love the efficiency and detail of UPS e-mail notification telling me a package has arrived in my mail box. I get the tracking number which allows me to look up and determine which package it is.The USPS has e-mail notification and provides is a scan copy of each piece of mail; however, 40% of the time the scanned mail is NOT in my PO Box, because scanned mail does NOT mean it was actually put into my PO Box, the scans meant it has arrived in San Francisco.PRICE: Turns out for all these wonderful services UPS provides, and to experience wonderful, courteous, competent service with a business who actually appreciates my business, ends up COSTING LESS than what I was paying for my USPS Post Office Box, about $200 less annually!Bottom Line: My review is for the UPS Mail Box service. Another plus to the Embarcadero Store, it has many other services you may need. In addition to shipping your packages, it has a notary, fingerprinting (e.g. if youre applying for a state or federal job, teaching credential), fax machine, packaging materials, and lots of other things for your business or personal needs.P.S. Tired of ordering stuff by mail, only to have the packages ripped off by apartment tenants, neighbors, criminals or bums? Get a UPS Mail Box and forever enjoy the security of having your stuff sent to a secure street address. No more worries about ID theft. No more worries about someone stealing your new debit or credit card. No more worries about criminals getting your social security number or bank account information.
I have used this UPS store many times and always find them to be professional and courteous. I recently mailed a painting from San Francisco to New York and it was unfortunately damaged in the process.Raquelle was just the best to work with and her incredible team did everything they could to make it right. She fought very hard to make sure I received the insurance money from my damaged painting. She even went so far as to spend time researching comparable paintings to make sure that the value of my painting was accurately represented to the insurance company (a third party). In the end, Raquelle was able to help me to get MORE than I had requested from the insurance company. I would return to this UPS store for all my mailing needs, because they do a great job and when there is an error or issue, they do everything in their power to make it right.Highly recommended.
Awful experience. Rude woman refused to accept a prepaid package, even though the door was unlocked and according to the hours posted online it was open for another 3 hours. She wouldnt tell me where I could find another ups store. Who has the energy to be so mean to strangers?

2022-04-15Apparently each UPS store franchise has its own policy per the owner and this owner must be out of their mind since they ask you $3 for emailing them your return shipment labels plus the printing fee which used to be free.Guess what? Emailed the UPS label to the next door FedEx and had it printed there for 25 cents.

2022-02-08The UPS store at Embarcadero 3 is conveniently located but parking is a challenge. I needed a birthday card so i stopped by this UPS location. The store is huge and offers mailboxes, printing, and delivery/pickup services. As in most stores around San Francisco, the prices seem steep. I will only use the store for smaller items.

2022-04-15This specific shop asked extra money for a regular Amazon drop offs each time I came by. Hated their service and greed! Just use another branch!

2021-12-16This store is where I get my mail and packages because I have a UPS mail box. I love getting all my Amazon and other packages at this UPS store.I dont have to worry about porch pirates (a huge problem here in San Francisco) because my porch is a secure building with actual humans keeping an eye on my stuff. Plus, theres always someone home to get shipments and sign for packages or mail requiring a signature.Regarding location, this store is easily found; its located on the first floor at the Embarcadero 3 building in San Franciscos Financial District. This store is very large compared to other UPS stores I have visited. Thats because this Embarcadero store provides every service a UPS store can offer, from notary and fingerprinting services, to selling packaging materials and a few office supplies to remedy basic logistical needs.Another nice service of this Store, on my behalf the (friendly) staff have signed for all manner of EXTRA LARGE packages. To my dinky mailbox I have had delivered: 50 TVs, three LARGE electric bikes, and two behemoth convection microwave ovens. Now thats service! Now, about the staff. Whats essential in retail is providing superior customer service. The only way a retailer can do that is by hiring intelligent, hard working, dedicated people. In this regard, what really stands out at this store is the employees! The staff at this are knowledgeable, kind, helpful, caring, and simply just very fine folk. The employees are so outstanding that each Christmas to show my appreciation I hand out $100 tips to them.(Side note: what a contrast to the USPS employees at the Gateway Embarcadero station employees who are the polar opposite to UPS staff. For the 22 years I had a PO Box those civil service employees were rude, nasty, uncaring, and moronic. Indeed, those USPS employees were the reason why I moved my mailing address from Embarcadero 1 to the UPS store at Embarcadero 3. Checking my mail is now a pleasant experience instead it being a loathed chore.)Bottom line: I highly recommend the Embarcadero 3 Clay Street UPS store. Whatever the service needed you can be certain the friendly staff will get the job competently done and you will leave the store confident that things were done right.

2022-01-06I sent out some electronics and then realized Id forgot to configure the electronics. The folks there (I think Shavra) helped me get the packages from the driver so that I could configure them and send them on their way. Saved me a lot of time and headache. They also helped us ship some high value items which arrived in NY exactly when they said they would.

2021-03-05This is the best UPS store I have ever visited, and the folks working there are so lovely and helpful. I was moving out of my apartment in San Francisco and had to ship a few things across the country. I misread the closing hours and showed up a few minutes after closing. Prava was so lovely and took pity on me, she said I could bring my stuff inside and they would ship it the next day. She took my information down, and as promised, she called exactly at the time she told me she would the following morning. She took care of the shipping, settled everything over the phone, and emailed me the receipt. BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! THANK YOU, PRAVA!! You are a credit to UPS, and I am eternally grateful for your help.

2020-12-05Rude and unhelpful, it was like a ten minute bad comedy routine with the woman at the counter, she claimed I had to pay for a gigantic box to ship my item, then was going to ship it in the smaller box it was already in, then said they cant insure it that way (maybe she should have mentioned that before going through her extra long process to quote me that price), she said its $30 extra for bubble wrap, $150 for shipping, $70 for the box to pack my small 20 pound item that was already in a box, and on and on and on. It felt like whos on first trying to get any clear information. I eventually gave up and went next door to FedEx where they packed and shipped it for $180 instead of $250, and in a box that fit it instead of the gigantic box the UPS store woman was claiming it needed. It felt like being cheated at a used car dealer with the different prices she kept giving me, rather than a professional business where they have clear policies and prices.

2019-04-17I had a complicated tourist visa issue that they were very helpful with! I worked with the manager her name is Prava and she carefully walked me through all I needed to do and also suggested copies of crucial documents. She has done this before many times and so the shipping went smoothly. She brought some calm to an otherwise highly confusing process. Thanks!
