We use to love going to Waterdog or getting take out. The last few times have been a suboptimal experience with the new owners after a long break-in period. To avoid cooking in the high temperatures, we ordered out. I arrived at the designated time to be ready for pick up. We were excited to get a new menu item. I sat near the entrance for 15 minutes, then asked the hostess. She inquired on my order and said it would be a few minutes more. 10 minutes later, I asked a staff member and he said he would check on it. 10 minutes later, my order is ready, but had a missing item. 15 minutes later, I am speaking to the owner. She said they are out of the missing item. Note: the missing item is on the online menu but not on the physical menu at the restaurant. I told her things happen, but it is good to communicate to the customers. She refunded most my bill and an hour later I walked out with our order. I was excited to have a vegetarian option with the beets and grains salad, but it was bland. My husband ordered the lobster Mac and cheese, which was $30. It was a tiny dish with bits of lobster. I hope they up their game as it is a wonderful local spot outside.
Came here during pandemic to sit in their beautiful garden. You do need a reservation. Its really nice. Tables are far apart and shaded. The employees thoroughly clean and disinfect every table in between seatings. You order online and then they deliver the food. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. Drinks are reasonably priced. Highly recommend the brussel sprouts, pretzel, veggie curry and all of the salads.
Its a menu thats half guilty pleasures and health conscious Californian. The perfect place to go when you want a drink and the group cant decide whether to stick to the diet or live it up. Service was good and inside is well decorated. Its one of the better gastropubs Ive dined at and Im left wanting to go back
For some reason, WaterDog is still using the Covid ordering with QR code. They never changed back, when everyone else did. No more friendly servers. But you still tip? Confusing. The hostess Maya was so haughty and unfriendly. Too bad, this place has a pretty setting and was formerly such a nice place to go.
Not much for breakfast, with ordering on your phone difficult if you have dietary questions, allergies, etc. Item was available per an employee, but not according to the app, so I was told it would be fixed on the app, so just waited. Out of frustration, just when back inside and ordered, old school. Food was just ok.
Ordered soup and an entree, which were brought to me at the same time. Presumably this is so I can let one get cold while I eat the other. Waiter said I should specify next time that I want them at different times. What else should I have to specify? That I want my soup to be hot and not cold? That my salad should not be hot?
A hidden gem in Belmont !!Better environment than sf, worth a visit. Im a regular though.Cocktails are bomb.I had the rum infused with pomegranate juice and it was 5/5Many options for food, the burgers are amazing.Esp in winters get down to the open area and enjoy a drink in open air with bonfire and small water fountain.Heavenly experience
So I had a really good burger and very good fried oysters, but I also had terrible service. Our drinks took for every to come out and I was served a meal I didn’t order. And when the right meal came out it was cold. So again great food, but don’t be surprised when your order doesn’t come out the way you want it too. And for these prices it’s not what I would expect
Update (Mar 2021):This place goes from back and forth between being amazing and absolutely horrid food. I guess you need to know what to order.Thai curry is a joke. Potatoe hash with chimichurris is like cardboard. Kids pasta with butter doesnt have a hint of any taste. The only saving grace was the coffee cake.Really baffled how this kitchen can swing so badly on certain days...--------------------Update (Sep 2020):I recently visited Waterdog again because it has a fantastic outdoor beer garden. To be honest, because of the previous experience, we didnt expect much. Oh boy, things have improved drastically!Food was delicious and spot on. Fresh ingredients, honest to the taste. Pretzel was freshly baked, macaroni was perfect, Thai salad was fabulous, etc. The atmosphere made it even better with the water fountain and lightbulbs hanging.Im so happy that Waterdog turned it around!--------------------I really wanted to like this place. The fact that I recently moved into this neighborhood and my family loving brunch, this place seemed perfect.First the amazing stuff: interior decor was beautiful and modern, had a great view to the flower garden downstairs, the waitress was friendly and timely.Even so, the 2 stars... the food was just off. I calibrate all brunch places with their French toast. They had a cinnamon swirl French toast so went for it. The bread was dry and sandy, the outside was burnt, the bananas werent fresh, and unnecessary sprinkling of cornflakes as if the chef was trying to hide the mess. Super disappointing. I wouldve given it a 1 start but apparently my wifes sandwich was edible.Fix your food and youll see the entire neighborhood flock to your place!
This restaurant has a limited menu but tasty dishes. An extensive beer menu from local micro breweries. It also has a great outdoors seating in a garden setting formed around a creek that stems from the Waterdog lake (hence the name of the restaurant). Very friendly staff. Vigilant in observing Covid-19 protocols.
Good restaurant in a very unassing strip mall. I had the buttermilk fried chicken with a side of poutine. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the breading was great. Started with a the spinach artichoke dip, which was made with freash veggies - hands down, the best Ive ever had. Good beer selection! It was a bit cold when I went, and ai cant wait to enjoy some time in the beer garden.
Food was pretty good, atmosphere was fairly cozy. It was a little brighter than I imagined, if that makes sense.Had the pound of wings and Carlmont burger. Expected more saucy wings, but they were good regardless. Burger was tasty, had an unexpected horseradish taste to it. Not bad, just unexpected.
Beautiful patio surrounded by plants and waterfalls. Great selection of local beers. Great service (the server just went out of her way to change the propane tank in the space heater so we could sit outside comfortably). And great food. I’ve ordered the salmon three times now and it’s been cooked perfectly every time.
Not good, won’t be back anytime soon. The food was not good at all. Got the tots, fried chicken and a kids waffle. Tots were not crispy at all. Fried chicken was lousy and tasted like fish. Kids waffle came out super late. Only thing that was good was clean bathrooms and the Irish coffee nitro cold brew.
Very frustrating ordering system requiring every one to have a smartphone. No paper menus for a group of seniors. Food and service was excellant, BUT few got see all the menu has to offer and ordered the first thing that looked okay. Bad ordering system for groups, elderly, visually impaired, or new to English readers.
The service was great and the manager came up to my dog and myself and was extremely friendly. He also treated the staff with a lot of respect, it felt more like a family vibe which was super comforting. I got a salad and wasnt too happy with it but I was really hungry and shouldve just ordered something more filling. The outdoor patio was absolutely gorgeous and they are dog friendly which was super awesome! You pay and order with the barcode they provide.
Dog friendly tavern with split level inside and outside dining. inside area has fireplace and bar. outside area has firepit and large landscaped spacious space with many different types of seating. order and pay by phone. your order is brought out to you by warm and friendly servers. no problem asking extra condiments for the food or extra cherries for a drink. several of us ordered the hamburger with various options and sides. everyone enjoyed their meal. great dining experience at pub cost.
Was up from LA to see my daughter and son in-law. Saw this tavern earlier in the day and wanted to visit. The staff there not very friendly, order some drinks. They were bad. Told the waiter and he sent over the bartender. She was very smug and tried to convince us that the drinks were fine.they were not. They compt one of the drinks and I ordered something else. The food was really good, staff not. Would be a great project for the show BAR RESCUE
Such a cute atmosphere, sitting next to a tiny waterfall should have been amazing but the food was so aggressively mediocre. The fries were nice, and the pretzel was good (mustard and cheese sauce!) but the rest of it had no flavor. How do you even make flavorless fried chicken?? This place might be better to get some drinks at instead of food. You have to order through your phone though, it’s a little awkward.
Ate good shrimp and carnitas tacos in beautiful beer garden with waterfalls and a river. For able-bodied people this is a four-star restaurant. But, I am not, and rated it accordingly. Even though the restaurant does have an elevator to take disabled customers down to the beer garden, once you get there, it is not very accessible. Getting over the bridge to the tables requires both a step up and a step down. And once you are over, all walking is on gravel that is unstable for people who walk with canes. Restaurant management should note that the single steps on the bridge could readily be ramped and the gravel eliminated.
Overpriced, underperforming!Havent been here since Covid, and was sorely disappointed today! I ordered an $18.00 Impossible Burger, that didnt taste like any IB Ive had before! A Burger King IB would have been better! Two people ordered an avacado dish, one sent it back, the other, simply wasnt impressed. The patio has always been nice, and was Covid complient before we had Covid! However....that only goes so far! 😒
Food is good but no service. You have to still order using a QR code. Staff seems to not care about making you welcome just getting customers in and out. No one checked on us after the food came even though visibly there were items we didn’t touch. Also how do you tip before getting your food and experiencing your service? And why is the default 18%?
Good food. Everyone has to order from a phone and pay for each order separately with a credit card entry.Example - 3 couples go out to dinner - three credit card entries for the first round of drinks, three credit card entries for apps and 3 for entries, etc. You do have the option to store your credit card with the restaurant and get promotions going forward, which may cut the three entries to one, but I did not try that.Tables mainly staring at their phones ordering - I’m hoping this is not the future of diningDefault tip to server is 18-20-22% in additionSorry to complain if this is becoming normal now
The food was good. The service, although touch- less because of the pandemic (ordering through a menu online) was good. Atmosphere was above average when seated near the creek. I would have given it another star if I did not have trouble with Toast (third party) POS application. Since the client orders through an application the servers then bring the orders to the table. This part was good, because they delivered the orders promptly an d asked each time if we we satisfied with the food, etc.But the POS TOAST app caused me to give a tip of $1000 when I only wanted to tip $10.Let me explain. The client is presented withe usual 15% or 20% suggestions. I decided to enter a ,custom amount of $10 presuming the app would know I meant $10:00. So I entered 1000 without the period. You guessed it. It came up as $1000, with no review and confirm screen. The on shift supervisor and the owner both assured me that it would be corrected and it was.So, I lay the blame on THE TOAST POS software. Dont let this happen to you.
Ive always liked this place. We were able to sit inside, but the outside Beer Garden is perfect in warmer weather. The owner is personable, the staff is top-notch, the drinks are always just what I wanted, and the food is delicious. Last night, I had an Ahi Tostada...so good 👍
Pretty spot for outdoor dining and drinks. Menu and ordering is done through a QR code, which is a nice touchless feature. Just hard to get service without buying anything or looking like a jerk asking for help from the other side of the outdoor area. Not their fault as theyre just trying to be as safe as possible, but I think having staff circulate around the tables would be helpful.
Feels like owners need more experience in running establishment. Learning to not run out of beer or how to present the beer menu. Needs more adult supervision. Got salad with fried chicken on top and it was a combo of all kinds of chicken they had laying around in the kitchen. Very friendly and cozy atmosphere just hope it gets better over time.
Water dog tavern feels like a favorite secret 🥰The indoor dining is wonderful but what really wins my heart over is the outside space. Its so spacious and secluded that it feels like you have your own private drinking space in an enchated beer garden. A tree adorned creek runs straight through it providing secluded spaces to savor your favorite brew.So top marks for ambiance! And the beer selection and cocktails dont disappoint either. The in house Mai Thai is very easy drinking, dangerously so 😄Food is tasty and gets the job done.It is the perfect spot to get a drink with friends and just savor a beautiful day, or even when its miserable as well as the inside has a fantastic fire place.
Wow! This is such an hidden gem! We found it by chance and we had an amazing time in the beer garden during happy hour. The food was good, cheap drinks, but the most important was the ambiance! We felt like we were in a secret oasis, away from traffic jam and airport sounds. In the evening, the staff turned on heat lamps, so you could enjoy more our time, even if it was chilly outside. I highly recommend this place!
I really enjoyed my experience at Waterdog Tavern. Im not a big drinker, so thats never the draw for me. Im just there for the food; and in this case, I left a very happy customer. We started off with chili chicken wings (crispy, sweet, slightly spicy...yum!) and artichoke dip (a very good standard thats not too salty) served with warm tortilla chips. Our waiter was very attentive, professional and friendly. Im typically a salad kind of gal, but he sold me and two others in my party on the special sandwich of the day, which that particular day was a beef burger with melted muenster cheese, bacon, mushrooms, pea tendrils and a delicious tomato-y, slightly spicy sauce. It was juicy, delicious and better tasting than Godfathers and Jacks Prime. The accompanying cole slaw was uniquely and generously served in a cup, full of cabbage, red onions, carrots, etc. In retrospect, it wouldve tasted great in the burger, which Ill have to remember next time. We sat overlooking the nursery-garden, which was a lovely backdrop for those seated outside. The service was great and the atmosphere light and breezy. If youre looking for really good American food with standard classics like fried chicken, ribs, salmon, deluxe salads and great wings, this place is well worth a try. Ill be going back again for sure.
Best beer garden in SF and peninsula area because its lush and green and has a pond running through it. Nice beer menu as well. The restaurant part is good, good place to take kids. Could switch up the menu more often (hence the 4 stars). Overall one of the best places in San Carlos.
Love this place - it is a local favorite. Great rotating selection of local beers and the food is quite delicious. They have a nice outdoor patio, but on a busy day it can be difficult to find a seat and when you sit outside you have to go to the counter to order and the line can get long. It is dog and kid friendly but some patrons are more responsible for their children than others. Overall I love going here but try to avoid peak hours.
I love the atmosphere of this place. The service is friendly and quick. The food is solid and the drinks are great. The burger was well cooked and flavorful. The best part hands down is the lovely outdoor seating. The man made creek running through and fire side seating isare comforting and delightful.
The beer garden was amazing for our event! Its like a little oasis in the middle of Belmont. We hosted a group of about 30 people for a post-rehearsal happy hour, and I was impressed every step of the way. It was easy to coordinate with the restaurant, the prices were reasonable, food was tasty, and the service was great. I want to have all of my events here.
A very modern, contemporary setting indoor and outdoor seating available. Outdoor is just beautiful with a little Lagoon and umbrellas like being at the beach. Great menu although a little limited. Unfortunately the menu in the outdoor seating is different than indoor so you may want to look at the menu before you get seated. But overall a very lovely experience
This place a lovely ambiance, especially the outdoor area. It’s a perk that you can bring your dog to the patio. However, I feel it is over priced for mediocre food. In the inside of the restaurant you are seated and have a server. In the patio area, you seat yourself and order at a counter where you carry your own drinks to the table. I would prefer a server, and think it would be better for business as I would be more likely to order a second beer if someone came to the table.
I really liked Waterdog Tavern. They did a nice job of designing and casualness. The waitstaff as well as the food is very nice. There was an unfortunate incident a few weeks back where a friend of mine took a fall on the stair in the beer garden downstairs. She asked to see the manager who happen being the owner. Unfortunately he did not really take her seriously. She was injured she didnt ask for anything she just wanted to let him know that he needed to mark the stair which he has to this date not done. He was around the restaurant/our table the whole time we were there, and never one time after the initial contact came to check to see how she was doing. I went back and had lunch today just check it out and see if if he had posted anything around the stair to causion folks. Nothing has changed. I will never go back there. As mentioned earlier, I do like their waitstaff and food. However not impressed with the owner.
Overall, it’s a good place to meet up for drinks and appetizers with friends but I wouldn’t go there for dinner. I tried the Thai salad a couple days ago and was very disappointed. It had all the right vegetables but the dressing was bland and the noodles were over cooked. The dish was just flat, no taste. They should either improve the dressing and use Asian type noodles or just take it off the menu. Good ambiance and nice outdoor seating on warm days though. I would go there more often if they improve the overall quality of the food.
Food is 2.5 stars for being acceptable. I tried the salmon at lunch and it’s okay.Beer selection is 3 stars, and plenty of IPA on tap.Service at lunch is “serve yourself” and the staff is friendly 3 stars for not being full service.Atmosphere is 4.5 for being pretty awesome!
I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The wait staff was extremely friendly. The eggplant panini with bacon was delicious. There fried chicken is also pretty good. The batter has a sweetness to it. They have a pretty extensive cocktail menu which makes it a fun time finding a drink. I had the bacon infused old fashion was darn good. It came with 2 ice cubes, i encourage you to take one out so the drink doesnt get watered down. Overall I reccomend this place.
Nice courtyard with ponds and streams and waterfalls. Food was good. Waitress was a bit too pushy on the drinks. Came and said one of us had asked her about doing some tequila shots. We all looked at each other and asked her who it was. She said she wouldnt tell. Nice try.
Good food, friendly staff and nice surroundings, especially the outside seating area. Due to COVID-19, the restaurant has instituted a bizarre system that requires you to scan a QR code on the menu using your cellphone and visit a website to order your food. The website, chownow.com, requires you to sign up for an account and supply your credit card details. It was a major hassle. All the food then arrives at the same time - the restaurant seems to have lost the ability to bring starters first and entrees later. The menu is also very limited.I sympathize that restaurants are trying to limit the spread of COVID-19, but I doubt this system is actually any safer than simply ordering from a server like you can at every other restaurant. Its such a pain that I wont be back until they return to a saner system.
The garden with the water features outside was so beautiful and gave it such a lovely atmosphere. I ordered the Brussel sprouts and the salad sampler! It was so good! My fiancé got the meatloaf and finished it off within minutes! The service was great too and we were in and out in the perfect amount of time. Definitely would recommend.
Honestly this place used to be a great place to go for happy hour - one of the few places to go in Belmont - and we went every week. However the past few times weve gone it has taken more than 5 minutes to even get a bar tender to look at us and say hello. I understand that they might be busy getting someone elses drink, but a quick Ill be right with you would have been nice. There were 3 bartenders and not one even acknowledged us. After the 3rd time this happened we stopped going.
We placed an order to go and it was extremely difficult. Granted there was a bit of background noise at the restaurant but the receptionist kept repeating the incorrect order. We ordered three main dishes and a side of deviled eggs which was a meal for another party and they put the eggs in one of the main dishes instead of a seperate box. When we went to pick up the order it was pretty much chaos. Nobody seemed to know what was going on. When I gave her cash her response was oh your paying cash and it took at least another 5 minutes to get change. Food and portions were slightly above average
Tina, that wonderful and creative mixologist made the best Hawg Old Fashion for me tonight. My on in law is a regular but this was first time and I was impressed with the layout, service and atmosphere. OK, I think Cory is the other mixologist who stop by to say hi and made me feel at home, so sweet. No one grills brussel sprouts like this any where. I should have order four servings and I would have been happy, but I chose the brine infused fried chicken. Stop... I am a roasted and fried chicken aficionado, from San Francisco to my current town of Auburn. South, in Sacramento is said to be superior yet I did not found that to be the case. So lets get this out front... KFC does the best friend chicken there is. OK, there was that rat or nice incident 50 years ago, but lets be real, why are people trying to put these other breaded, floured, special coverings recipes when the Colonel has the best so far.I enjoyed my over all experience but made a mistake in my selection in the grain breaded fried chicken. Go for the St. Louis ribs and enjoy.
Waterdog Tavern boasts a great and refreshing environment for a warm afternoon in summer or beautiful start on a weekend. Drinks are versatile and food is served fresh and delicious. If you choose to sit outside you can enjoy trees, birds, and the soothing sound of water while enjoying your meal.
Recently went here for dinner on a Sunday with the hubby. It was around 4:15 but we had never tried this place and figured why not have an early dinner. We walked in and the place was practically empty, maybe 4 tables had people at them. The lady at the front desk said that she wasnt sure if she could seat us, then asked if we could be done by 5. We were a little surprised at the question, but assured her we would, and she sat us at a table. Apparently we were too early for the dinner menu, and were left with just a small selection to choose from on the menu she gave us. While I cant remember what we ordered (its been over a month), I do remember it wasnt very good, neither of us left very satisfied with our meal, and the service was just average. While their new outdoor area looks beautiful and people appear to be enjoying themselves, I doubt I will go here again.
Loved the back room with all its windows. I felt like I was eating in a treehouse somewhere in Brooklyn. Although the ambience and decor was on point, the service and food was mediocre. The waitress was missing for most of our lunch, and the newbie wait staff needed more training, as was evidenced by the scoop of ice cream that slid off the dessert and onto our table as it was being served. In terms of the main meal, the mac and cheese was good, but the ribs should have been cooked longer. On the other hand, the kochujang Brussels sprouts were burnt and I didnt taste any kochujang. My friends cauliflower dish was delicious. The cornbread dessert with the missing ice cream was almost great, but I found the cornbread consistency too eggy. I will definitely return here as I hope some of these kinks will be worked out.
Walked into the restaurant with no reservations seeking a table. Was told we could be seated at 8:00 pm (a 40 minute wait). We would have just left and tried another time (with reservations), but a gentleman of authority (presumably the manager), overheard and said we could be sat in 15 minutes. So, we decided to wait and took a seat in the waiting area. 15 minutes later, we inquired about our table to be told by a different hostess that we couldnt be seated until 8:00. We even mentioned the intervention by the manager to which she responded with shrugged shoulders and an apology. We took our business elsewhere.

2022-07-23Enjoyed the indoor and outdoor ambiance. We ate from the catering menu. I found their vegetables were really good. The Steak was hard to chew, cooked too much for my liking. Medium well to well done. The cauliflower steak was great, had a nice zing to it.The roasted vegetables were good. The polenta had something creamy in it. It was dense and stuck together. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Probably the best of the rest. The beet salad was delicious, but we requested a vegan dish and they kept making it with some sort of goat dairy…. The original way it is made has too much sauce on it anyway but otherwise good.Desserts consisted of brownies and bread pudding (not pictured). We had one server for the night named Isaac and he did a great job. This place is apparently under new management.

2022-05-15First and last time here, horrible food and non-existing service.1. Ordered Eggs benedict and got hard boiled eggs on bland bread.2. Ordered French toast, got really thin slice of bland tasting fried bread.3. Ordered coffee, was increadibly watered down. Theres no refill so you have to pay full price for another cup of discolored water.4. We were a group of 6 and we got 2 napkins. I had to chase down someone to get a few more for the table. No one came to check in on us for the entire time we stayed.5. Overall, food was below average, you would think that they would care to put some effort in for the prices they charge.Way over priced, stay away.

2022-07-11I guess it recently changed ownership (within the past couple of weeks). It seems to have fallen off, if Im being honest. The last time I was there (about a year ago), it was great, so I recommended it as a place to meet for some friends. The outdoor seating is great, but the food and the service seemed rough. I hope they iron out all the kinks and get back on track because it really is a nice place to eat outside.

2022-04-10Very pleasant. Food is good. Staff is friendly. However, I dont like the online ordering. The app is not really user friendly, confusing and time consuming / takes time away from friends. I dont want an IT project, just lunch please. I wish they brought back regular ordering. Other than that everything is great.

2021-07-26Great outdoor space! Food is really good and portions are quite large. Everything was delicious and we even took some food home as we did not realize the size of the portions! Staff is very nice! Dont miss it if you are on the neighborhood!

2022-01-01Favorite place to eat in Belmont - it’s a cozy and beautiful setting whether you’re indoor or outdoor, the food is great, and the service is blazing fast no matter how busy it is!

2022-03-06The Waterdog Tavern has been the favorite hangout of mountain bikers riding the nearby Waterdog park for years. The venue has much to offer including outdoor seating arranged around a delightfully landscaped garden. The indoor space features modern wood tones and large, bright windows that overlook the garden. The management is unfortunately a sore point. Parents going there with young kids can expect a lecture for any interference with the landscaping, corporate groups will be required to stick to their assigned corner and promptly disappear at the end of their reserved timeThis has been enough to dissuade me from returning to the be Waterdog Tavern.

2022-06-22Latest ownership has made the place go downhill. Given them some time to sort out the bugs but can’t hold off. Our pick up order was an hour late. No compensation. Food quality has changed to be cheaper. One obvious change is the fries. Used to be a go to. Now - worse than fast food. Only thing keeping from 1 star is the outside seating.

2022-03-11Seemed like a nice atmosphere. Wasnt too thrilled that I had to submit my order on my phone. There was no personable service at all. I couldnt ask any questions or get more water because the only thing the employee did was drop off food. However they do ask for a minimum of a 15% tip on the QR order app.The Brussel sprouts were cooked perfectly & very tasty. The meatloaf had too much of chorizo in it. I was hoping for a more traditional meal I guess.

2022-04-24First time visiting this restaurant my experience has been very disappointed we got seated right away, and they brought us a pitcher of water and utensils and we never saw a waitress again we were ready to walk out when a waiter saw us getting up and said I can take your order and apologize for the wait, we placed an appetizer order and main entree’s ,we figure let’s get all the orders in to avoid delays. The dinner orders came out before the appetizer and even my 9 year old grandson said the fries taste better at McDonalds, that’s a total wow!!! Staff is very unorganized they kept bringing different order to our table and our order to other tables, also once they brought out your food you never sad a waiter stop by to check how everything is going. I do not recommend this place at all way too expensive and you do not get the service or quality of food. I regret spending my money on this restaurant. The prices were much higher then the menu on google and they blame that google has not updated their prices after been notified.
