Called at one point to check their stock on an item so I could grab it later in the day. Unsure if the owner answered the phone or a custodian, but they were very rude and presumptuous, as if I was wasting their time by being a customer. Didnt spend any money here. You work at a comic store fellas; answering the phone is not an enormous task.
Three warehouse sized spaces full of comics, TPBs and comic related memorabilia. Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff (its usually one or two out of three but seldom ever all three) and the cherry on top; a cafe part of the store called The Hideout. Whats not to LOVE?
Wow San Diego May have the biggest comic convention, but they have some of the worst comic stores in the nation.I have been to 300+ comic stores in North America and this may be the worst experience I’ve ever had.Other negative reviews all cite the same problem, the disrespectful owner. This old and miserable human being was condescending from the moment I walked in. For some reason he felt the need to lecture me about how the comic market works, knowing nothing about my comic knowledge. He made many poor assumptions, as if I strolled in to rob the place of all its gems at bargain prices.. that seemed to be how he interpreted my question when I asked him if he had happened to have Fantastic Four 1-10 at this time. Pretty reasonable question for a serious collector, which certainly didn’t warrant the nasty backlash and lecture I received that seemed to just be a bottled up ball of anger towards anyone who is looking for hard to find books that are in high demand. I called before I visited and he told me this was the store to go to for the old hard to find books, then I showed up and it was this negative defensive energy referring to me as 1 of 4000 people like me, who are wanting those books. Okay thanks? I’m aware everyone wants them, but why try and make me seem like some unwanted garbage Dime a dozen customer? Something is not right with the way this guy makes assumptions about customers.I nearly got kicked out of the store for politely telling him I did not need the lecture and understand how the comic market is right now, having collected for 20+ years. He likes being the boss, including forcing his opinions on customers. I came to a comic book store to enjoy an hour or two looking, this guy is treating a comic book store like a police station where he is superior to everyone who walks in. It’s toxic energy and a terrible environment where is deflecting his sour attitude onto others. I don’t understand how he thinks this is acceptable, but it’s the classic tale of an old ex cop who is stuck in his ways, being a hard and rude hot headed control freak who thinks he’s smarter than everyone.Owner of this store is an absolute classless rude piece of work. Ex cop who gets off to bossing customers and employees around and treating people like garbage. I drove out of my way to visit his store and should have stayed away. A narcissist who looks for reasons to cause trouble and make drama for absolutely no reason. Avoid this place at all costsIt’s also over priced and the owner could care less about your businessThe dude clearly has something off about him and just takes pride in being an old sour hardened shell of a human being
I came to this shop while visiting San Diego with my fiancée and kids a couple of weeks ago. This is the largest comic book store I have ever been in. The dollar bin room alone is about the size of a studio apartment. The staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I will be visiting this store every time I am in San Diego.
Impressive amount of back issues. Thousands of $1 books and just as many, if not more books at higher prices, from all eras and conditions. If you need to fill gaps, they probably have it and if youre looking for big ticket or key issues, they will help you find it, or you can go to their website, which is pretty detailed, even if it is a bit clunky.
I witnessed the owner obnoxiously mistreat a customer today and was horrified. I walked out within minutes and cannot fathom how this business owner conducts himself with customers.I’d much rather support other comic shops with respectful people, with a safe and positive environment for guests. Unreal.
This place is amazing. They have a huge selection of comics, its a little overwhelming. They offer subscription services where they pull copies of your favorite comics and hold them for you to pick up. You even get a little discount if you make use if this service! They also have a massive amount of back-issues if you need to fill in holes in your collection. Theyve got toys, statues, and storage for all your comic related needs. The staff is a little shy so you need to approach them if you want help finding something, but the flip side is that nobody will bother you while you are browsing.
This is a great comic shop, selling current comics and back issues, some as low as a dollar. They have some statues and original art and magazines but it is their comprehensive comic collection that is the stand out here. This shop is not as close to me as others but I find myself making the drive in order to get what Im looking for.
SoCal Comics is my favorite spot hands down!!! Their selection is Second to None!!! Staff is highly knowledgeable and great to deal with.Best $1 bins Ive ever seen. And Always have their comic supplies stocked, I love the fact I dont have to come back at a later time to get my bags and board because they always have them. Even with Mylar & Top Loaders
Probably one of the best comic stores Ive been to in my entire life. Huge selection that goes from the big 2 all the way down to small obscure indie comics. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Only complaint would be the hours but they totally make for other with their selection of comics, trades, and collectibles. The only comic store in San Diego I go to.
My Favorite LCS especially back issue dollar bins. The staff has been very helpful ever since the late 90s. Been shopping there since I was a minor and now that Im about to turn 40 they are still my go to place for comics especially back issues. In addition I also go there to get my books slabbed. They have the best selection for graded comics in San Diego and possibly in Southern California.
Ridiculously large comic book store with every title imaginable. There’s two large wings of the store, one with single issue comics and another with larger graphic novels. The employees are super friendly and willing to help you find a book anytime as well. The location is a little hard to find, you have to be careful to not drive by.
My kids and I enjoy coming here to look at all the comics and comic-related toys and items. They have a nice selection of comic posters (of which we bought several over many visits here). They also have a very large section of the store dedicated to books and graphic novels. It was especially fun for my kids to come here for the first time on the first Saturday of May, where it was Free Comic Book Day. They were giving away a lot free comics, and there were several booths around the parking lot with other vendors selling all kinds of comic-related items (e.g., paintings, drawings, toys, keychains, etc.). The store is located across the street from the Daiso Japan store, and is in a building behind a couple of other buildings (almost near the back of the long driveway). Definitely a neat place to visit and get your comic-book fix!
A-M-A-Z-I-N-GI love that place so much. Before coming to San Diego, I saw on an article and they were talking about that store, so I decided to get there.I was blown away by the amount of comics available and especially by the gems displayed there. I could stay there for hours, trying to dig out real treasures. If you are a fan (or willing to discover the comics universe), just go there !
This is by far one of my favorite spots. They have comics (of course) but also Som much other cool related stuff. This is the place to go if you want to see what a shop like this should be. The owner seems like a real great guy, is fair, and tells it like it is based on his vast experience.
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I love this place! they have WAY better prices on comics and figurines then Comics -N- stuff. GREAT presentation! not only do they have gold and silver aged comics, but they have a doller bin! see, Im a thriftie and i like to, well, lets say i want a marvel or DC comic. they already have them, but i have to seach EVERY DOLLER BIN untill i find it on clearence. HEY! sometimes it works! dont judge. thanks again Southern CA comics! we love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once again Southern California comics hits a home run with me on the amount of comics i found at such a great deal. This is the only comic store in San Diego i will buy from and not think once about how much im spending. If you are a true comic collector then SoCal comics is the place to be. This place prices comics extremely fair and if you do your homework searching you will find key issues for way below Overstreet price. Jamie Newbold/Owner has grading that is spot on. If you ever get the chance to have a conversation about comics with Jamie Newbold listen up and take notes this guy knows his vintage comics people better then most in the comic industry!!! Thanks Southern California comics for another outstanding shopping experience i will be back again very soon!!!
The place has an excellent variety of comics, in addition to being very well organized, they have recently released comics, back issues from the Medern era, also from the silver age. You can find CGC, little commercial publishers, and to a lesser extent figures and trading cards.
Awesome! This comic store is a little hard to find because you can not see it from the road, but it is worth it!It is definitely a shop of passionate and collectors. For my part, a fan of comics and a little connoisseur of comics, I went out of curiosity to see comics stores in the city of Comics Con, and I was not disappointed. A little to discover the richness and variety of the offer of American comics. One can also find comics to 1 dollars (10 the 12) where to discover collection comics. In summary I recommend this place to all enthusiasts or curious comics.

2022-07-16The best comic shop in town! The nicest employees also. Jaime has given me some good deals when I want to buy comics or fanzines. I love to look through the bins to find those nuggets! Jaime even gave me his expert grading opinion when I brought a long-time comic into the shop. Love these guys!

2022-07-24Wow!! What a rad place. Fairly new to the comic book world and got stuck going to another shop. They were nothing like the folks at Southern California Comics. I only experienced stuck up, elitist attitudes before. But now that a friend suggested SCC Im in heaven! Knowledgeable and friendly staff who were more than helpful and excited to assist a new nerd. Looking forward to supporting them more!

2022-05-23As a family we enjoy this shop almost weekly. My husband loves how the new release comics are laid out, we appreciate the store limits on new releases that give everyone a fair chance to snag a collectible, the availability of varient covers has been great as well. We have also used their CGC service and recieved the utmost care and diligence in facilitating the grading of two high value comics. The only complaint we have is the wooden shelves the new comics are on could use a refurb or replacement. Sometimes they damage the bottom left corner of the comics and have to pay close attention. We buy for reading as well as our personal collections so condition is important to us for future grading. We are grateful for the staff always greeting us with smiles and providing a welcoming atmosphere, and enjoy their events and collaborations in the community!
