Very easy to pickup and return vehicles, convenient to the terminals, and low traffic, no pun intended. The SJC airport and rental car center being across the street is the reason I prefer to fly into SJC instead of OAK.
This is a typical standard rental car center. Nothing special. Employees do their job but dont expect anyone to go above and beyond. They send you to level 4 to wait for your car to be brought to you. I liked the touch less car return service, but was peeved they charged me for 1 gallon of gas as I had filled up right before dropping off less than 5 miles away.
Great service! The vehicle was not well cleaned on the inside however. A coffee spill was evident in two places which remained untouched so the concept of sanitizing would seem questionable. Both the counter attendants and the people moving cars around were polite, courteous and kindly mannered.
Car rental is right across from terminal B. it is a bit confusing on how to get your car back as you may have to drive around the entire terminal.
Ted one of the front desk personnel upon arrival was and is a pleasure to deal with. Best Hertz employee I have ever come in contact with.

The Google maps which leads here is very confusing I always miss the turn. So look out for the SJC rental board at the airport itself that would be helpful. You will find all the major car rentals here. Its open until 11:00 p.m.. If you have a reservation you can pick up the car anytime which is 24/7.
Easy to navigate. If you have an early flight out of terminal A give yourself an extra 10 min or so. Shuttle can take a while to show up if it just left.

The rental center is great. The service vendors not so much. They dont know how to staff according to schedule. They should know the number of reservations coming in at a certain hour and should staff up. Line was long. Took 45 mins to get to a pre reserved rental. Fox.7 or 8 people constantly in line...1 agent.. not cool.

Its some distance from the airport. You had to go cross the street from it. Normally at main entry but wasnt offering service there for Enterprise other rental car service were for what ever reason. You had to go to the 6th floor. Service is excellent once you get to them. Just thought it was little to far with luggage and all. (I dont know if they offered a shuttle to the main car rental service if they do I would do this instead).
Easy rental car place to get in and out of. Shuttles are slower right now due to lack of staff. Running every 6-12 minutes.
Conveniently located across from the SJC airport terminal, a brief couple minute walk across the street. Car rental counters could be quicker if more staff were working but those who were there were helpful and knowledgeable.

For an in-airport rental car center, the SJC Rental Car Center is one of the most organized I have been to in my travels. Easy to find from anywhere in the airport, there is no need to go anywhere else to find a car. Only when on the far end of the airport might you need to take a shuttle one stop. Otherwise, a simple cross of the street will get you there.
For National, manager Dan was good. Front desk agent, Angel was rude, tried to bias the manager while telling me.somthing else. Have been renting from National for 15+ years. Expect better service.
Im going to start at the end. Youre returning your car and thinking about security and getting to your terminal. Returning your car could not be easier. Its a very easy path from the highway to the rental return ramp. The return process is very efficient. The shuttles are frequent.
All the rental companies on one place. Too bad its not closer to terminal A with the airlines I normally use, but the shuttle is pretty convenient.

Close to airport, one stop away from all terminals. Easy to get service on Avis. Well laid out with clear markings. Only downside is you have to spiral down and up after taking the rental and for returning the car.
A modern airport car rental center you can walk to from the terminal! Its a huge parking garage with different companies on different levels. We didnt have any problems finding our way back to return the car.
Super efficient. Shuttle from the far terminals to the Rental Car center. Walking distance from closer terminals. Every company has their space, easy to see when you walk in. Lots have self-service kiosks. Get your info about which car to take away. Bathrooms on the first floor. Then go to the garage floor for your company, check in, get a car and be on your way. Lots of new cars, low mileage (less than 1000 miles; one guy in my group got a car with 6 miles on it). Return is just as easy. Great signage to the garage, also to correct floor for your company. Quick check-in and get across the street to the airport terminal.
Maybe this was an off day, but check in and pick up was anything BUT a breeze. Dollar car rental was understaffed, and very slow. People with no reservations and no grasp of the language tied up the few agents that were there. We waited almost an hour to get to the desk. We had a reservation and once we were helped, the experience was quick. Maybe there should be a line for prior reservations.
Make your reservation in advance using the App, so in that way you can avoid long lanes waiting for your car...

Five stars when flying in/out Terminal B. 4 stars for A, strictly for convenience.Located next to Terminal B. Staff is always friendly and helpful, directions to cars are straight forward and everything, including the exit, is well marked.Same for the return. Easy and convenient.
Not a ding against SJC Rental Car Center, but a major ding against Thrifty Car Rental. Be advised slow processing/check-in, heavy pressure to buy extra insurance, and (surprise) car not ready, but for a upcharge a bigger car is available immediately.
Great rental car pickup and drop off facility. Rental car companies, on the other hand, are a different story.I am AVIS Preferred. I have NOT ONCE arrived at the AVIS area with my vehicle ready to go. I have ALWAYS had to go to the AVIS Preferred desk to clear up one discrepancy or the other. Sometimes, its been faster to go to through the regular que.
Nothing to complain. Across the street of SJC, Enterprise has been my only choice for stable car rental quality, this works for me very well.
Slow service. I got a car with scratches all over the body and all on the wheels. The car window is jammed on the half way down. And the price is ridiculously high with all the extra taxes and service fees. But theres no other choice to rent a car close by.
Very convenient from terminal B. Just a walk across the street... no bus needed! Pickup and drop off with National was flawless. Much improved versus what they had years ago with the off site one.

The city of San Jose posts signs to different parking lots that you have to pay to get out of and doesnt have signs telling you how to get to the rental center. THEY ROB MANY PEOPLE EVERY DAY
Make sure you make a reservation on line. If you dont you most likely wont get one unless you go to SIXT and rent one for a ton of money.
Best airport rental car
Overall a gold facility with all rental agencies and they have alright inventory most of the time. Staff at Hertz and Nationals are sometimes helpful, just sometimes.

O really like how this car rental is organized - it is easy to get car and to return it back as well. I mean it is easy to find return location, no need to get between multiple forks, like in SFO.
Check out the specific rental companys offers you want beforehand. Know what kind of car you want because getting a car is easy but getting the car they advertise is almost impossible.Example, advertise full car - camry, offered cars - kia optima, chevy Malibu, nissan Altima.Getting the car and dropping off are extremely easy. Easy for holiday travel as well.
Layout was not well thought out.Bus from rental center.No skyway with slidewalks to terminals.Look at PVD for a reasonably thought out rental centre... SJC looks like they didnt put any thought at all into placement and transportation... diesel transit buses to move people from the terminals in a metro area full of people preaching the green agenda.
I had purchased 7 days for $129 and the desk clerk said; t didnt include taxes etc. So he quoted me $230 as my fee owed. I declined. Then he lowered it twice and said $159 was lowest he could go. WTF ! Dont trust this car rental. Sleezebags!
Why is this garage 6 stories high while airport terminals are single story? It might be convenient to build a garage for all major car rental companies in one building. To me, its a humbug to drive in and out of this lot.

Great airport, great rental facility. Pay attention when you ring for the elevator, it could be in the next bank over ( there are a lot of elevators).
Everything closes before 1am. If your flight is delayed, just take an Uber. Waiting in line for a customer service is a waste of time and dont bother calling the phone support, they just tell you the both opens again at 6am. Worst service Ive ever had and I travel 40+ weeks a year.
The SJC airport has horrendous infrastructure. Shouldn’t be a logistical mission to return a car

Avoid payless. The representative literally could not even tell me how much he was swiping my card for. After multiple lines of direct questioning, I gave up trying to get an answer and moved on.
The facility is old and aging with really bad signage. The upside is that it is directly connected to the airport, with no shuttle needed.

2022-05-27Generally good. Seemed a bit understaffed at pickup, so the wait was long. On return, there werent any clear instructions on how to return the car after hours (posted or in the app). Some places have drop boxes for keys. Didnt see one here. I think their app is able to correlate that youre at the airport and check-in the car for you. Worked out in the end.

2022-06-20National/enterprise (with reserve status) is quick and easy for both pick up and drop off. The levels and flow of the garage are very clearly labeled. And even the signs leading to the rental facility are easy to follow. Well done SJC!!

2022-07-15Easy to walk to from the airport. A bit tricky, returning. Just remember you need to end up in the tall parking lot to return your car to the floor you picked it up on. SIXT was who I used the last time and they were great! Lots of BMW’s !

2022-05-06Got there about 9:30pm. Only one person helping with the customers. 10:30pm I was finally in my rental. No complaints about the lady helping us, she was very friendly and respectful to us. This was the budget rental line. Can not rate or comment on the other rental agencies.

2022-07-08You have to circle all the way around past the rental place to get to the return ramp, depending on what direction you come from. But everyone was super friendly and helpful. Fast rent out and turn in.

2022-02-22Terrible airport traffic design means youll be driving around the whole facility and, just before youre back where you started, youll find the entrance to this rental car center. Whats worse and very confusing, youll see a sign on the building to your left reading rental car center (or something like that), which will make you think you need to turn to enter, but youre actually like 270° from the entrance.

2021-12-24The rental car center is located at Terminal B. There are shuttle buses from one terminal to another. It is spacious and there are elevators to get to the car parking space. The service was quick and the staff were polite and helpful.

2022-05-01Pretty easy from terminal A follow the signs down to the first level and go outside to station 6. Get on the shuttle bus and it goes right to the checkin for rental cars
