My ONLY reason for giving this four stars is the fact that the golf carts lack any technology. Not something that matters much, but for the price I expect something. Other than that a beautiful and fair course. Greens were in perfect condition, staff was all extremely nice, the ocean views, especially on the back nine, were spectacular. Had a great time.
Great golf course located alongside the Pacific Ocean. 5 holes play alongside the cliff and/or the beach. Played here multiple times and the course was always in great shape with fast and challenging greens. Small clubhouse with a nice patio overlooking the course and the Pacific.
Sandpiper is a great golf course meant to be experienced in great weather. It was drizzling the entire time when i played there but I could still see why it is referred to as the poor mans Pebble beach. The views are great and the course is fairly difficult but incredibly rewarding. Ill be going back there soon. Go there!
Golf here is way over priced for what you get. The views are fabulous on the coast and Hole 11 is kept up 300% better than any other hole on the course. A regular price of $160 for 18 holes is a crazy price to pay for this under kept course. I payed $50 and I still think it was a little high.
Yikes. Considering how expensive the course is to play, it’s pretty crazy how you can destroy 14/18 of your greens. Apparently they tried to spray the greens with color because there was two types of grass growing and it completely killed one of the species. Solid work. The four greens that were in good shape played amazing. Guy in the Pro Shop tried to tell us that four holes were punched. Almost every one was destroyed.
Beautiful ocean views of the Pacific. It was a very challenging course with very fast greens, hard pan bunkers as they probably have not been raked during the pandemic. The rough/ fescue was thick and even the short rough grabs your clubs. Fairways were hard and fast and very green, excellent condition. I hit the best divots of my life. Breezy winds during my front 9 that picked up even stronger during the back nine about 10-15 mph. Uphill tee shots to downhill scenic greens on a couple par 3s. My only dislike was there were too many blin tee shots, couldn’t see end of fairways or see the fairway at all. Very tough if playing for the first time. Pricey green fees at $215 but it was a good experience. Driving was still closed and practice putting green was big with fast greens but no holes. Sub par clubhouse and decent outdoor dining area with grill. Long drive from LA and traffic back home but it was a nice course to play. Voted Top 100 public courses in USA and top 20 in California you have to experience this course.
The greens are in horrible shape, they have a fungus all over them and they have no answer on how to fix them. With this being said they should atleast give a discount to whomever chooses to play. But no they chose to punish you for something that is their fault doesnt seem fair to me. Being a business owner this is very poor management in my eyes and you should discount those who support you in times of trials. I wont be playing until they fix the greens and get better management. Both I don’t think will be fixed anytime in the near future. Spend yor money and time at La Purisima about 50 min north, you can thank me later.
Sandpiper is a fun golf course with a few spectacular holes. 10, 11 and 13 are the exclamation points.10 is a dogleg left par 4 that drops from the clubhouse down toward the Pacific, to a green perched above big dropoffs 270 degrees around it. 11 a downhill par 3 toward the Pacific, fun figuring out which club to hit. 12 is an unfortunate interlude in the middle of these 4... A blind uphill short dogleg right par 4. 13 is a beautiful par 5 with two forced carries that make it strategically interesting (especially the second). The course has been in excellent condition every time Ive played it. Greens are true and very fast downhill with a good bit of slope on most. It doesnt live up to its marketing as the Pebble Beach of the central cost, but certainly worth a round.
In celebration of my husband’s birthday, I searched for a course that we had never played. I didn’t mind the cost, because I wanted to splurge a bit. When I saw the drone footage of the course on the website, the course appeared to be pristine and immaculate. Our friends, husband, and I eagerly looked forward to our tee time and celebrating in style for his birthday. Our excitement quickly dissipated by the time we got to hole 3. We couldn’t believe how poorly kept the course is and quite frankly, we felt like we were bamboozled. With the exception of the beautiful view, Sandpiper was not a hallmark golf experience. The grass was poorly kept, many of the tee boxes were in poor condition, not once did we see a beverage cart to purchase snacks or drinks, there were no trash cans along the course to dispose of water bottles or other trash, the bathrooms (I think near hole 7) werent clean, the clubhouse is in desperate need of a renovation, and when we returned the cart, the staff didn’t wipe off our golf clubs. When the amenities are outdated, the service is subpar, and the course is poorly kept, what could possibly justify the cost of $215 per person?!We golf regularly and have played on some really nice courses and have had nice golf experiences (Desert Willow, Rancho Bernardo, and Kierland to name a few).I think it’s absolutely despicable that Sandpiper would charge such outlandish rates and purport to offer a world class experience and award worthy and celebrated course that is clearly from decades ago when the course was in better condition. The website and about us page is quite misleading and people such as myself, have fallen for what Sandpiper proclaims. Our experience was an utter disappointment. Until such time they can offer a true $215 experience, the rates should be adjusted to reflect what patrons are getting.
Amazing views and a very well laid out course! I was very pleased with the course and the amazing views. You arent going to find many places for this price that will take you right next to the Pacific. Course was in great condition as well. I was a little displeased as I had a man with two really young kids in front of me and they were basically jumping all over the place. When spending $100 to play I expect a level of professionalism from the staff and this seemed a bit unnecessary. Beyond that if your ever in the area I highly recommend playing you wont be disappointed.
Played this on the way back down the coast from Bandon Dunes. If I was headed from south to north this would have been a great warm up for these other windy courses along the coast. Was very pleasant ly surprised. and will definitely be hitting this again...as the kid is going to school in SB.😎
Nothing like the view!Design is long with some very memorable holes and a few generic.Quality of the course was 8/10. Never have I ever played on that fast and good greens before, even in tournaments. Could use a little less bare spots on the fairway and a bit more sand in the bunkers.Awesome course!- a 3 handicap golfer
I really wish California wasnt in a terrible drought. The course would have been amazing! Even with the water restrictions, the course is in pretty good shape. The greens roll nice and fast. The greens along the cliff and beach are awesome. I would definitely play this course again.
This golf course was a complete disappointment. The ocean views were beautiful but the course is not well maintained. This was punctuated by the goose droppings all over the 18th green. $160 and you have to purchase your own drinking water. We cancelled our second round here and played a municipal course which was one fourth the price and a much better experience.
The girls were really friendly and helpful. It is a super casual set up so we had to get up to get our own sugar and cream for our coffee and ketchup and jam. The food was okay and the view was beautiful. We sat outside and the birds surrounded us as soon as they brought us our food. It looked like the would attack at any minute. Be careful not to drop any food. When we both got up to leave the birds started getting loud and going towards our table. We decided it was best to pick up our plates and coffee mugs to avoid the chaos. We will be back to enjoy the view.
Top 100 Golf Digest Public Course in the country. Holes 5,6,10,11,12,13,14 and 16 play with spectacular ocean views. Prevailing wind is from the SW making the Par-5’s on 1 and 13 reachable for birdie. Conversely, holes 6 and 9 and 17 can be brutal into the same wind. Almost all greens slope back to front, so keep the ball below the hole at all times. Staff is friendly, the golf is epic!
I love this course! Always in great shape. D.J.(the head pro) has a fantastically friendly and accommodating staff, Ive played dozens of rounds here and loved everyone one of them. All of my friends and family love to play here when they visit. Evenings in the summer are awesome. This is a MUST course for any level of player, dont miss the chance to play it as much as possible.
Really beautiful and challenging at the same time, especially if it is windy. Located directly on the coast it offers spectacular views and thrilling shots. We played there at 16 F and at least 25 miles wind and it was really tough! 2 pullovers and a wind breaker and you are set up properly... :-) my wife claimed a few unfair tees for the women and I can understand her. Difference to mens tees sometimes may be bigger.Overall a beautiful course which requires your best golf!
Sometimes called the Pebble Beach of Santa Barbara, Sandpiper, rated 4-1/2 stars, has a lot in common with its more renowned Californian, coastal cousin. The course also sits on cliffs directly above the ocean, affording spectacular views from many holes. This well-maintained and excellently crafted layout is a work of understated simplicity, designed to test and probe your game in all weathers.
Very beautiful Golf Course its a shame that you cant bring a spectator girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, ex-wife, mother, mother-in-law without having to be charged a spectator fee for your golf cart. It doesnt matter if youre the only one on the golf course or theres only one golf cart left theyre going to charge you a spectator fee very very very sad. I would play the community golf course 10 times over 10 times then play the Sandpiper ever again, save your money go elsewhere!
Menu was not clear and confusing. Cashier made me feel as if I was at fault when I thought I had been clear with what I was ordering. Customer is always right seems to not apply here. They did fix the problem quickly but my meat was overcooked. Beautiful views and nice eating area but exterior windows should be cleaned more often, looked dirty. Price of the food was a little high for the portion given, I would give it a 7/10 for value.
A crappy muni in an awesome location. Not worth the retail rates by any measure. The course is in really poor condition. Fairways are muddy, spotty and a mix of dead grasses and lush pockets. Apparently they have water as there is mud and puddles all over but the fairways, bunkers and tee boxes are a mess.Sandpiper has really gone down hill in the last few years. This could be such a spectacular course with better care. Instead, its a waste of a great location. Hopefully theyll get their act together and hire some good agronomists and management as its really disappointing to have such potential falling by the wayside due to poor management.
Bunch of idiots! I call at noon as an out of towner asking if they can get me on during twilight, they say no problem. I take a 50 dollar cab ride to get there, 100 round trip. Get to pro shop and Vernon tells me he cant get me on. I tell him my situation and says sorry no go as you can tell he doesnt want to be bothered. Talk about waste of my time. And Ive played a few West coast courses in the past. Looked like a goat ranch in comparison.
The low-floating haze greets golfersThe solid green has a smooth feel like a virgin skin, and the fairway is a sloppy, honest hit.The deep rough becomes so cool when the ball enters it that it is very difficult to find the ball, and you must not make unreasonable attempts to get out, but you must compromise well and make a wise shot. Each hall has its own characteristics and creates a challenging spirit.Course. This course offers a variety of pleasures to conquer one by one. The flight of pelicans in a flock presents a wonderful sight in a time-honored space and course. If you hit it until you understand the course yourself, it is a course with a strange addiction. For reference, we made 54 holes a day to understand the course. I definitely understood the course and imprinted the entire course in my head.

2022-04-13Absolutely loved this course. The front nine was forgiving to build your confidence, and the back nine challenging to test it (especially #18!) Was expensive but worth it.

2021-07-17Really would love to give this course a 5 stars because it does have some beautiful holes, good layout. Unfortunately, had to take a star away because the greens condition was really bad, not acceptable.

2021-02-20Such a beautiful golf course!! It easily rivals Torrey Pines in my opinion 😀 we started at noon which was the start of twilight.. $80 walking $35 cart rental. Greens, fairways, tee boxes were excellent!!

2022-02-28Great golf course along the ocean. Greens are fast so don’t be above the hole if you can.

2022-05-19Update (May 2022)The greens have recovered and are rolling true and semi-fast.Original:Their greens are completely lost. Avoid this course in 2021 until they regain control of the surfaces, or lower their prices to match the current conditions.

2020-12-22The views here are absolutely incredible. Many holes with views of the pacific. The course itself could use some TLC. A little rough around the edges. Tees, fairways and greens had many patchy spots that you wouldn’t expect for a course in this price range. Overall still an awesome experience. We will all be back soon!

2020-11-27The location is awesome, stunning views. Golf course has some spectacular holes, challenging but fair. Some irrigation issues, hence deduction of 1 star.

2020-10-13This is the definition of an ocean course. It starts with hole number six a beautiful par three and then on the back nine dives you right in at hole number 10. Make sure you go for it right over the cypress on the right on hole number 12 you can do it! the reward is worthy. If you’re there at twilight the sunset grounds is epic.
