Good experience renting a car but even better experience with the shuttle bus driver. Her name was linda and she was phenomenal. We had a 5 am flight and she was on it. She was so happy and funny. She had the whole bus laughing. We actually sang “ wheels on the bus” 😂 She definitely found her calling and made my day. Thanks linda!!!
Very poor management of transportation between airport to rental car center and back. Waited 45 mins at the rental car center to catch a shuttle back to the airport. No barriers set up for lines so people cut the line and get on the bus. More than 50 people waited in line with me and more than 10 busses with not in service signs drove in front of us while we waited forever. Definitely will think twice about using this rental facility (actual rental car agency experience was excellent).
The actual vehicle rental agencies have been great. But the bus between the terminal and the rental car center is terrible. They dont have enough busses running, but more disturbingly, they pack you in shoulder to shoulder, despite the Covid epidemic and signs stating to remain 6 feet apart. Theres also no enforcement of mask wearing. The staff is friendly enough, but packing us in, not enforcing masks, and offering hugs is dangerous.
Incredibly fast service. This place has large volume of people renting cars dialed in, they had us in a car in less than 15 minutes. Chose enterprise, Kathy helping us out was efficient and friendly. The only snafu was the bus from San Diego airport to the depot, there were so many people we waited for a long time as 3 full busses of people in line ahead of us. We landed at 10pm did not get on a bus until 11pm. We were in a rental car in 15 minutes.
Terrible and inefficient setup. Huge lines to board the shuttle upon arrival and add an hour to your departure time upon return due to slowness, too many customers and not enough shuttles. Among the worst off airport experiences I have encountered. Use ride share if at all possible. Not worth the hassle.
Paid in advance on Dollar website and unfortunately forgot the card I used to reserve the rental. Once there in San Diego the person behind the counter was rude and told me I couldnt rent from there because I didnt have the exact card I used when making reservation. I had other cards available to use and was still denied service. Will never use them again!
Easy to navigate to and convenient. Friendly workers and very aesthetically pleasing. The only thing missing is more parking in front and a better designated area for Lyft/Uber and Taxism.ReturnsNational Rental Car BESTThe return agents at this location, are the friendliest and most helpful. If you have an issue, National gives the autonomy to fix it. Today Alex fixed an issue w gas, and was helpful.Hertz Rental Car WORSTWorst return agents. Rude, unfriendly and will not print receipt, not let you check the computer to make sure rate is accurate.
I am so thrilled San Diego invested in this. It is one of best things about flying into San Diego is knowing how EASY it will be to get your car and go. The convenience is amazing and so clean and efficient. I wish all airports did this. Saves 80 old busses chugging around too!!
This rental car center serves a great collection of varied rentals companies. While on arrival you may spot only a few of these, keep wondering in further towards the building and you will soon find more options.Be sure to make use of the complimentary shuttle bus service from/to the terminal.Overall, an efficient rental process, including pick-up. The return seems to be a bit chaotic, bit as long as you leave the car to the designated area, with the keys inside it, you should be okay.Getting the hold removed from your credit card seems to take a while, regardless what company you use. So, I would encourage you to document the condition of the car, mileage number and the return location that you left it to with a few quick snapshots with your phone...
Good arrangement of shuttles to and from the airport to this Rental Car Center.I dont have anything against the center as such but we tried Budget Rentals and the experience wasnt good. We had pre-booked a compact car and they stuck us with a higher version car. We had no option late in the night so paid extra for this one. We raised a complaint but its unresolved. The cars driver seat was also not comfortable, and the charging point inside wasnt compatible with our phones charger. Bad luck probably!
The car center itself is very convenient and easy to navigate through. My Budget rental experience was not bad, but ended up getting my first rental car replaced due to bad brakes, the second vehicle was fresh out of the wash, and other than a vacuum and an exterior wash, this car was grimy and dirty.
Don’t normally leave negative reviews but, I almost missed my flight because the line for the busses on Sunday 9.19.21 was extremely long. I ended up having to hop on a Lyft with another person to get to the airport. I was at the rental car facility at 5:30 for a 6:30 flight. They must have had an issue with the buses but no explanation was given at the time.
We always get our rental car from this car center and we had no problem with my husband driving the rental car home by himself because I am driving our own car we used to go to the car center. Today it was a hassel because Lauren at the exit declared that I should be in the rental car with my husband so on my way home, had to drive back just so my husband can exit with the rented car. Big dissappointment.
This is a wonderful and efficient rental car center. All the rental companies are streamlined so you all go to one building and take your car and check out in one place eliminating needless confusion. They are extremely helpful and friendly. They also have a shuttle which takes you to and from the airport. The shuttle comes often enough that you should not need to wait. Great place!
Spacious and clean building. Service at the rental counters was pleasant but is unnecessarily prolonged by all kinds of offers. The place can be reached via a free but very slow shuttle from the airport, with the connection taking 30 minutes during our visit. Allot ample time, especially if you are flying out, to avoid missing your flight.
We arrived at the San Diego airport and and the rental shuttle was so easy to find. There was a little wait to get the car, but the customer service was great. We got offered a vehicle with a Bluetooth upgraded vehicle which we accepted for an additional fee; however, it was weird. There was Bluetooth, but no power locks or power windows in our Nissan Versa.Overall, I will rent from Payless again. There service was great, the pick up/drop off was easy and the shuttle to and from the airport was great.
I staid in San Diego a few days and picked up a rental car here. While the center is away from the airport, the shuttle bus service seemed efficient and convenient. Returning the car was a bit challenging due to the poor signage. Coming from downtown, the sign was too small and then the driveway to the center was in a curve and the access Lane was decided before you could see the sign that you are supposed to enter here. Thats just poor design. Hertz was as efficient as ever.
I hate renting a car at SAN. It takes forever to get to the Rental Car Center. The signage is horrible when leaving the airport to get to the rental car return. At first it is good but then the signs are very sparse and mostly covered by trees! The shuttles run frequently, but it takes almost fifteen minutes from the time you drop off your car to the moment you get to the terminal doors.
1) Pick up the free bus from the airport. Follow signs to Rental Car Center bus. ALL the rental car companies are housed in the same building. No tip needed.2) The bus will drop in front of the rental car center in about 10 minutes.3) Proceed to the rental car company counter to make a reservation or pick up your vehicle.4) Follow signs to the different floors to find your car5) Drive out of the parking lot. On your way out an attendant will verify your car.6) There is an area just outside to pull over so you can adjust your mirrors, sanitize your car surfaces, get settled, set your GPS, etc.
I usually like these guys and Enterprise but after getting there after dark I was questioned why I brought the keys to the counter and not leave them in the car. 1. Stupid question. 2. Sorry it caused 5 minutes on your feet. He was also new and being trained so have to wonder how grumpy he will be in 6 months.
Shelley Wells is correct. When returning your rental car, as you come down North Harbor, there are a lot of huge signs showing Rental Car Return before you get to Laurel Street. Then the signs get smaller and tell you to turn left on Laurel. Once you turn left on Laurel, then left again on Pacific Hwy, the signs to show you the way to the Rental Car Center disappear and if you are using Google Maps, it takes you to another place called Car Rental Center on Grape street! How confusing for tourists! We had to switch to Apple Maps to get to the right place! Made us late to check our bags trying to figure this nonsense out...so once you turn on to Pacific Hwy, keep going straight on until you get to Sassafras St. then turn left and then right into the Rental Car Center to return your car.
I had a terrible experience. The car options once you got to the lots were scarce, then Im told insurance is $102 and they charged me $239 instead! I put in an online complaint asking for someone to call me and Ive heard nothing on the matter. Never renting with Hertz again.
This rental car center is backwards. Some buses drop off and others pick up. I saw 5 terminal 1 buses depart and then a Terminal 2 bus finally showed up. But it was only dropping off. What?The operation here is unlike any other airport I’ve visited. It also takes 20 minutes to go 2 miles to get to the rental car center. I’m not a fan of this layout.
Nice rental car facility with very easy access. Take the bus from the terminal and you are there. Make sure to read all the signs so you end up at the correct rental place. The exit is easy too. There is also wonderful art work installed around the facility. They give a nice overview of the art to look for on the bus ride over. Very close to the airport and is apparently much better than it used to be when the facility did not exist.
They were helpful enough. But the service/wait time was a bit excessive. I dont know if they were understaffed or what but it took forever to get checked out with the car. I will also say that they handled my exchange a little faster. They apparently opened an express window in the garage and got a few of us out that way. Im just curious why it wasnt opened up already instead of routing us back to the office just to get rerouted back to the garage where it got done at the express window?? It would have made more sense to have one of your express windows open already
Professional scam artists that take advantage of people being far from home, they will change policy on your arrival stating that policy was just changed a week ago. Will have you purchase insurance on top of the insurance you already paid for online. Thrifty and dollar car rental.
Great service from the Hertz agent and she gave us an unexpected discount. It had been a while since Ive rented a car and when she said just go to the row of cars and pick the one you want I was kinda thrown off a little. This in itself isnt a big deal but I just chose a car without walking around it to note any damage. After I got home the boss looked it over and she saw all kinds of stuff wrong with it. So we took it back and Hertz crew were cool and took the car back and authorized an upgrade. Thanks Hertz!
This is a good one. Easy to navigate, close to the Airport, and all of the carriers are in the same building. The shuttle bus takes you too and from the airport all in one service, you only have to pay attention to what terminal you are going to. I like the Rental Car Center building at San Diego. Theyre doing great.
I tried to extend my rental but could not get through to an agent. After 5 calls and one hour on hold, I gave up. I was able to speak to customer service representatives who said they could not process my request and kept sending me back to the extension that never answered. I tried extending online, but the web page would not recognize the confirmation code. I finally drove to the airport to handle it in person, but no one was on duty. I have no idea what I will he charged, but I hope dollar recognizes the situation it created.
I disagree with one review which precedes mine. Shuttle buses run constantly, arriving far more frequently than any given rental agencys shuttle. The facility is spacious, clean, and easy to navigate. I love the wall installation, and have posted a picture. The customer service aspect would of course depend upon which rental agency youve chosen. I utilize Hertz 99% of the time in San Diego. I make my reservation online in advance. I arrive at the airport, take the shuttle, go to the Hertz Gold section, choose a vehicle, and drive to the gate. I hand over my license for verification, the gate agent scans the car code, and Im on my way. Returning the car is just as easy.
I used Sixt and let me tell you NEVER EVER use this company. First time I’ve ever used this company and I will never use the again and I mean NEVER. Landed at the my airport and had to get a shuttle to the rental agency. No big deal it’s common for most car rental places. Got to the car rental place. It look nice basically breaks new, sort of fancy looking place. Only had one person helping customers so it took a while before others came in to help. Ok it was at 11:30pm but still. More service agents was needed. Filling out the paperwork and the service agent helping us asks if we would like to upgrade our reservation to a bigger we said no because we didn’t want or need a bigger car. The service agent then said oh well I’ll give you the upgrade for free as we are out of the midsize car you had ordered.So let me get this straight you just tried to get me to pay more for a bigger car because you don’t have any cars left in the size I ordered. Um ok not a good move. Strike one. So go over everything in the order that we had ordered and we had said we wanted a car booster seat. Which we had paid for it’s on our bill saying we were to have one. They didn’t give it us even though they had said we need a car seat and our order said car seat on it. Wasn’t in the car and never gave it to us even after asking for it. So we called the next day to fix that issue. Strike two.The car was fine brand new make and model for the current year. But day three into the trip and the car started having issues with the battery. Not starting at all or turning over when Turing the key in the ignition. This happened a few times to the point where my husband always stranded in a parking lot by himself in a place he doesn’t know. He luckily managed to get a jump from a local. He called the service number three time. You heard me THREE times and no one answered. He finally just called the customer service number said he was having issues with the car and that he needed an exchange. They told him to bring the car in. Um hello your car won’t start but WE have bring it to you. Strike 3 in my opinion. Let’s give up an hour of our vacation to fix your busted car. After my husband had finally gotten the car started he drove it straight back to then rental place for an exchange which he was told would be called that he was on his way. So they would have a car ready. Surprise they weren’t called. Go to exchange the car and start telling him that he needs to fill the car up with gas. Hello. You want us to take your broken car that doesn’t start 99% of the time to a gas station fill it with gas and get stranded because it won’t start again. Um no and they tried to charge us. Sorry not paying for gas in a broken car which was hardly driven. Strike 4. Was told the manager would be calling us to talk to us about our issues. Let’s just say I’m still waiting for the phone call.We got a new car in the original size that we had asked for. And everything worked fine with the new second car. Returned that one without any issues but had to wait until a supervisor was available on return to ensure that we would get refined for the car seat and other charges they were trying to make us pay for the first car. All around a totally miserable experience with this company. First time I’ve used this company and I will use them again. And I will advise anyone needing a car to never use them as well.Four strikes in one experience is basically the final straw for me. At this point refunding my total payment wouldn’t make up for the poor service I received from this company. Use this company at your peril.
DO NOT GO TO ENTERPRISE:The management and front desk staffing were rude and less than helpful. As a non-profit paid for my familys flight to travel to San Diego to support my husbands military burial at sea, I did not have the return flight confirmation number- only the screenshots from the purchaser. This was, to the San Diego Airport Enterprise team, not enough for me to pick up my rental.I explained to three representatives (INCLUDING a manager)- AS I WAS HOLDING MY HUSBANDS URN in one hand and my toddler in the other- that this was ridiculous. I presented my drivers license, military ID, social security card, and debit card, and they finally obliged. The manager told me to not let this happen again. Talk about a nightmare.Colin swooped in to save the day by upgrading me for free, then Drew gave me an additional 5% discount for the mess. I wish this rental and been less of an ordeal- but you have two solid gentleman on your staff that need recognition for their excellent customer service. Although these two were excellent and helped me in the end- my family will NOT be returning to Enterptise soon.

2022-08-15If youre a Gold Plus Rewards member, pickup of your car is simply walking up to a car and driving off! No line, no hassle, no frustration. Car I got was clean and smelled nice. Returning the car was almost a fast. One of the best airport car rental experience Ive had.

2022-05-17Picking up the car was fine. Staff was helpful. Dropping off at 4:15 Am not a soul around. No Dropbox no one to help. Finally a young lady comes up to me and asked If I was dropping the car off, I said yes and gave her the key. She was in plain clothes, so I guess its okay. Would be nice to have some return instructions or a drop box. Sometimes people get In a hurry because they have to take the shuttle to the airport.

2022-03-25No buses in sight. San Diego International builds an offsite rental car facility and doesnt provide enough buses to bring people to the airport. This is annoying. The lines just get longer and no bueses.

2022-08-02Could use more bus service. The line going to rental center was long and took like 15mins to catch bus. And after returning car the line at 5am was around the block, and had to wait for 4 busses to catch a ride.

2022-08-01Travel here all the time on business. The line for the buses to get to the rental center adds 20+ minutes. The staff managing the busses at the airport are lame but the bus drivers are great.
