Came by on a Sunday to hang out and have some brunch. The apple cider mimosas were delicious and definitely worth $10/bottle. The maple french toast was amazing!! Im not a huge fan of maple but these were perfectly balanced in flavor! Highly recommend stopping by for brunch!
Awesome Alehouse, with experienced Ale-ologists to help you with your ale selection. Picking a beer is not my strong point, but the doctors on staff will help you find something to your taste. Great staff! Great outdoor patio and located conveniently above The Frida Cinema for when we open our cinema doors again. Thanks, Native Son Alehouse!
Native Son Alehouse is a great little beer garden on a second floor in the city of santa Ana California. The beers my group or friends and I tasted were all pretty good they have a good viriety. So no matter your preference I am confident you will find one that you will like. The place is not terribly big just like any of this breweries that have been popping up in the last few years but is a good size but those standards. If you plan to go on Friday night or a weekend definitely be prepared for it to have a crowd. The people it attracts as customers seem to be friendly young professionals the great majority when I was there. The staff was good and knowledgeable. I ended up getting my beer called the life coach I had to sense that is what I do lol! It was a nice blonde crisp beer. All in all definitely worth going to check out if you are interested in having good beers and chill with your friends
Sat on the wonderful rooftop patio with views of downtown Santa Ana and had a great time enjoying excellent beers and the amazing Native Fries (which are like an upgraded animal style fry from in and out) with my wife. The service was amazing! The server was always around waiting and looking to help those eating and drinking, making sure they were satisfied, but also never interrupted or imposed on our conversation.
Great beer and always something new. This was my go-to bar in DTSA. I used to come here a lot because of that but the only drawback is some of the bartenders can be straight up rude (two of them in particular). Others are cool and nice, but its a damper when you come in on the days when unfriendly/rude staff are working.
Used to be my regular spot a Great selection of beers and an open patio with a nice view of DTSA. But thats no longer the case. Went in July 22 after a hard day and found the 🍺 tender pretty condescending. I asked for a certain beer. Said they didnt have it. I asked for a taste and was given about 7 drips of the wrong beer. She was irritated when she realized she served me a cider and then gave me about 5 drops of the IPA i requested. Just a really petty and unwelcoming experience thats indicative of whats exactly wrong with the gentrification of DTSA. Try Bird & Barrel or Wursthaus right next door. Better food and great service.
They got plenty of great beers on tap from breweries such as Russian River and Hop Valley that keep me coming back. Great place to come hang out in Downtown Santa Ana. Plenty of seats available on a Friday night, the location is not rowdy whatsoever. Expect to pay between six and ten dollars for most of the beers on tap.
I stopped in for a beer, my first time here. I was extremely impressed with the guy behind to bar, Mike. He was extremely knowledgeable about all kinds of beer. They have over 30 different beers on tap. Everyone that came in seemed to know Mike, he was super friendly and made my afternoon great. I will stop in again Everytime I am back in that area. What a fun place to drink a beer or two.
Always like coming here when Im in the area. Or even come here just because. Not a huge beer list, but what they have is always really good stuff, with great variety that plays to my favorites: Good IPAs, sours and big stouts. They have a BBQ joint attached now, which we havent tried but it seems nice. Love the outdoor upper patio overlooking the street and the nice friendly staff they have. Great spot, if youre in the area.
This place only serves craft beer and they no longer have BBQ. If they had some domestic beers in bottles and didnt overcharge, Id give them 4 stars. If they could keep a consistent kitchen or food concept, Id give them 5 stars. If youre wondering why I came here in the first place if i dont like craft beer, its because I was here with friends. I bought a can of Coca Cola and a $13 soggy cheeseburger with cold fries. I most likely will pass on this place next time someone suggests it.
Stopped in for a beer before heading across the street for dinner at the Playground. Nice ambiance and craft beer selection. Tried out a cherry stout and was pleasantly surprised by the balance of coffee flavor of the stout and the sweet yet tart hint of cherry. We sat out on the balcony to enjoy the cool night and watch people going by.
Native Son has a great selection of beer, they have select ciders and sours from other breweries, and they have food now too. The outdoor patio looks over plaza cuatro on 4th street which gives it a cool laid back vibe. They also have a DJ that plays funk or soul music on select nights of the month.
Good selection on beers and nice patio. The people are really friendly. Only reason for the 4/5 is that we wanted to eat there when we got there at 12 but they were not ready to serve food until 2 so we had to go to 4th Street market to eat first before coming back here.
Native Sons is amazing. The brew is always changing and the wings are an absolute delight. Outside food is even allowed. Theres a great smoking area where you can hang out and enjoy the view while you taste the crisp cold craft beer. They have live bands and Djs on the weekends. Dog friendly. Perfect place to hang out on art walk day or any day!
Unfortunate experience, hopefully one time thing. Heard rave reviews about the BBQ. This is not an inexpensive place to eat. One has expectations of a decent eating experience. Friend and I went before noon on a Sunday, perhaps 9 other people were there as well. Minor complaint of no ice, went downstairs to another restaurant for that. When food was ready, person behind the counter pointed to a cart near the kitchen. Couldnt see our food behind the large garbage can literally touching the cart. Asked for forks, again he pointed, this time across the room, no forks, only spoons. They were out of fries so chose cornbread. Cornbread was stale, hard, cold, uneatable. Nearly $50 for two people...
Quick to get the cash from you, ordered the $11 burger, made burgers from Jackin the box look n taste like royal gourmet. Once food was ready none offered condiments or even napkins, you have to be somewhat drunk to actually like the chicken wings here... Ok place to drink, definitely not a place to eat at all.
This place is absolutely one of the most attractive restaurants in the area. Anytime I come there I am incredibly pleased. They preserve their high standard service and the highest level of dishes they serve. You can never go wrong with this restaurant. Highly recommended.
Called ahead & asked if the have any vegetarian options and they said yes, many. They didnt have anything besides fries and onion rings and those were $5-$6 a piece, which is silly. The menu is pretty pricey and very limited. Once they run out of something, that is it. However, they do have a couple specials and a decent craft beer selection on tap but dont offer flights. They dont do table service but that is no big deal. We took the bigger table inside since we had a big party and the table was a mess from the people that were there before. I took the guy at the counter, who wasnt busy, 15 minutes to come pick it up and he looked confused on how to do it when he finally did. He also went out the side door and came back in & left the door wide open, knowing very well it was cold & windy out. The food was nothing special and not worth the price, 10 of the 11 people who actually ate in our party felt the same way. Substitutions for anything are NOT allowed. My 19 y/o niece ordered her food, which came with a beer and they wouldnt allow her to change her drink and had to pay an additional fee for her soda. The guy at the counter didnt even check her ID and just gave her the beer. She would never have drank it but are you kidding me? Never again.
Native Son Alehouse is a new hot spot in Downtown Santa Ana. This is not a brewery but rather a craft beer bar offering 24 different taps to satisfy anyones palate. They have only been open for a couple months now, but it quickly has become one of my favorite spots to grab a drink with some friends. Native Son is located on the second floor above Taqueria Guadalajara and adjacent from The Playground. I would recommend the parking structure behind the pub or the street parking (if you can find a spot).I attended the soft opening which a major success. It felt like a Grand Opening because of the people whom were present. My group and I got the pleasure to meet the owner; Jon Sanchez who was present, ensuring everyone was having a good time. The beer bar provides bar, indoor, and patio seating. I highly recommend sitting outside because the view is spectacular. Enjoy your favorite drink overlooking Downtown Santa Ana...love it. There is also a long wooden table, very similar to the Copper Door which is good for large groups.Native Son also has Happy Hour specials Monday - Friday from 4pm - 7pm. Check it out!Recently, Native Son has expanded their food menu. I have not experienced the full menu yet but only the two options they had before the expansion; Fried Chicken Sandwich and Brussels Sprout Chips. Both were very good and paired well with the craft beer.Downtown Santa Ana is definitely reshaping, offering locals & tourists many different businesses to during your visit. Native Son Alehouse is clear winner because of their extensive tap list, food, atmosphere, and overall experience. Love this place and highly recommend to anyone visiting Downtown Santa Ana.
Yep...beer and barbecue. With an awesome second floor patio deck overlooking Calle Cuatro. Broad selection of beers from several local OC and SoCal breweries. Addition of Ember BBQ was genius. Kansas City style dishes are authentic and excellent. Loved the beef brisket combo plate with beans and corn bread. Washed it down with Blackhouse Coffee Stout on nitro by Modern Times. Cheers!
Lots of potential on the patio but its sparsley populated with very random patio furniture. The space could be used for so much more. Also, despite having their taplist on a video board, they dont update what theyre out of (which is a few things when I was visiting) which makes for a dissapointing experience.
I was minding my own business drinking a beer holding it with two hands over the ledge when a security guard came up to me cussing me out to keep my drink away from the ledge. I would have been fine with it, but i really didnt appreciate him getting in my face and cussing. Not drunk enough to deal with that. Put my half full drink down and left.

2022-03-16The beer selection is always great. They have seating with a nice view over 4th Street in downtown Santa Ana. If you happen to be up there near sunset youre in for some beautiful views. Cant go wrong with this place for some brews.

2022-02-28I came here for brunch and bottomless mimosas. Was not expecting much of the food quality since it is a bar, but the food was amazing, as was the service and vibe. This will definitely be my go to breakfast spot from now on. Portions are nice too!

2022-05-14Friday night and they had great music and great cocktails! But expect to wait 10-15 minutes in line to get a drink and another 20 minutes to makes it. There were only 2 bartenders for a crowded bar

2020-11-06Awesome rooftop patio. Great vibe, everyone seemed to be having a good time. It wasnt uncomfortably crowded but some groups did need to wait a few minutes to get tables, if you dont mind standing with your beer or pulling up a bench with no table, theres really no problem. Or you can wait a few minutes for one to open up. There was indoor seating with large, open patio doors and outdoor seating. There were 20+ taps with lots of tasty choices. I was stoked to get Pliny the Elder on draft! Nice and cold. Very laid back place, staff were around running food and beers to people, grabbing trash and empties. Will definitely return, Id suggest anyone looking for a nice beer selection to come check this place out!

2018-12-17Great restaurant. Great patio. Perfect setting to highlight both the Orange County beer culture and the gentrification of Santa Ana. There is a wide selection of interesting beers on tap. Most are from Southern California. Another interesting feature is the attached BBQ -- famous for its smoked wings. Sweet patio -- with benches that appear to have been made from recycled stadium bleachers -- overlooks the downtown area . Its well-heated for those cold nights. We will return here.

2019-04-30Just stuck around long enough to have a few beers while passing through the area. The place seemed very spacious and the staff were very friendly. Great beer too!
