I actually had a Enterprise reservation. But arrived into RDU 2 hrs before Enterprise opened, and I am a National Executive client, and the two ladies who helped me with the car, were excellent in addressing the complexities of going between companies. I was taken care of, and got on my way...appreciate them
I will start of by saying that I absolutely love National. I am currently an Exec Elite member. But their cleaning quality inside the vehicles are significantly heading in a downward spiral over the last 12-18 months. I have been to Cali, Las Vegas, DC, Seattle, New Orleans, Atlanta, Tampa and NC....no matter where I rent, the inside quality of cleanliness is terrible. I would have not known the difference until recently a friend of mine rented from another brand and I was shocked how clean it was in side. He said it is always like this. So get better National...Your cleaning standards are below what a national brand should be
I have executive elite status with National. When I went to pick up a car, I was disappointed at the selections as there were all small sedans and SUVs. Thankfully though, someone at the John Wayne Nationals actually reached out to see if I needed anything. I got connected to Ibrahim who helped me swap out my car with a larger SUV. Thank you for your amazing customer service, Ibrahim!
Besides competitive rates and great vehicle selection, the best part of National is their Emerald Isle. Here you can bypass the lines and the counter and go pick out the car you want from the Emerald Isle car pool and drive directly to the exit. This feature saves so much time.
The representative with whom I dealt was very professional and courteous. Because my rental had been secured through a corporate account, I didnt have to pay until I arrived at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana. As an Emerald Club member, I was given the choice of about 8 different cars. I opted for a VW Tiguan.
National has been my go to rental car company for over 12 years for two reasons:1) a majority of my rental experiences are without any delay, disruption or other challenges.2) when an issue or challenge arrises, National’s field team members have been quick to make it right!Thats the best set of reasons to only rent with National and /or their parent company Enterprise.
Car was clean and in time however PRIOR to rental pick up day, I contacted national several times to remove the $156 insurance coverage they added to my reservation which we do not need as we already have car rental insurance. I got disconnected twice. Then I also emailed them and was told it could not be removed unless I went to a ticket counter for them to inspect the car which I hadn’t picked up yet. They would NEVER remove it and since the car was delivered and returned at a private location, there was no counter for me to visit. Ridiculous!
They gave me a car that would not start at their lot. The key FOB battery was low. They gave me the car anyway and said youll be OK - just hold the FOB to the start button. The second day, the warning light came on the dash saying: no key detected I had to drive around all week with that warning. Then the unlock and lock stopped working. They only had the one FOB. I was going to change the battery myself but didnt want to get stuck in case something happened. how can they let you go from their facility knowing there is an issue with the car?
Always great service from the National team at SNA Orange County, CA. They have efficient process and friendly, helpful staff. Im out in a breeze after arriving to John Wayne airport. No lines, no waiting, and a bottle of water for the road. Hats off National team at SNA!!!
The manager, Rios is a terrible example of a manager. He tried to hit on my girlfriend because he thought she was by herself. When I arrived he became jealous and refused to rent us a car. He is a complete unprofessional and should not be employed by National. I am also an executive elite member and really discouraged by Nationals choice of leadership here.
Rental experience including car condition & performance were as customary, excellent. Unfortunately I got charge for excess miles which I had never experienced with National. I had been satisfying all my car renal needs with National without shopping around for better prices or conditions. This bad experience will result in going back to other rental agencies like Hertz.
Went to leave hotel at 4am for airport and KIA car remote would not open vehicle doors, trunk or anything else-completely dead!Left my nice $200 overcoat on passenger seat and now no one seems to be able to find it-go figure....nice honest tow truck driver maybe. Of course National Car Rental will not admit to anything. Even charged me for the full price of the auto rental.Cant believe Im giving them 2 stars.
I just had a terrible experience renting with National. I travel often for work and use National/Enterprise. This was the first time I experienced renting a car from National that had an ant infestation and their service to help me switch out the car was terrible. I called their number immediately when i realized how many ants were in the car and the agent asked me to drive to the nearest location (which was the Enterprise at 2132 S Harbor Blvd, Anaheim, CA 92802) even though I said the car was infested with ants. Not sure why they couldn’t send me a replace. I got to the Enterprise and they told me they couldn’t give me a new car because of something with the contract and the fact that I got the vehicle from the airport location. I called the customer service line back and the agent tells me the Enterprise store employees were lying and escalated my claim. I still havent heard back regarding the escalation even though he told me they would within a few hours. Then they had me drive back to the airport which was about 30 minutes away in traffic. After a couple ant bites, I was finally able to switch the car for another one. The employees at the airport we’re much nicer and more understanding so I appreciated that. Please get your customer service agents and branch locations on the same page. It doesn’t help the customer out when they are just blaming each other for sending me around. I just needed another rental with no ant problems.
Great experience with the National team at SNA. I was greeted immediately and experienced to wait to process my reservation. The car was immaculate and readily available on arrival. Likewise, the car return was fast and efficient. I will definitely repeat my business with the team.
The car was fine, but I received a confirmation email for my reservation that my cost with all fees and taxes was $345.47. When I picked up the car I was not given a receipt, but after I drove off I received a notification from my credit card company that I was charged $419.72. When I returned the car, I brought this to the managers attention. He credited my card $123.22 which I appreciate but the error should not have been made in the first place.
By far the worst National Ive ever used. I will likely not fly into Santa Ana again as a result. Ive visited 30+ Nationals and while a few may have been 3 stars, all the rest were 4 or 5. This place was awful. As was the 3 reps I spoke with. At no time was I anything but friendly, but they were all in awful moods and irritated at everything. Im sure the working environment down there drains on them. It was awful just being there.Disregard the construction, thats not their fault nor reflected in the rating, but the people were horrible as mentioned. Said they didnt have my reservation, well, I had it on the app. They had 15+ vehicles, but wouldnt give me one. Said they were reserved. Not sure where the Emerald Lane was, but I guess my reservation meant I didnt have a reservation. Employee cars were parked intermixed with the reserved cars. After 45 minutes I got an awful, and dirty, Hyundai.Burbank drop off was excellent as normal and they are super cool people.
It doesnt really have what makes the National Rental Experience all that great (the Emerald row), but the choices of cars were nice. There were a couple of issues I had was the Volkswagen Passat I rented had an occasional power issue where the center console entertainment unit would not come on (I had to power on and off the car a few times) and the USB port would not work as well. The other one was that they replaced the standard tires with some cheap off chinese brand that made the car louder than it would usually be.Other than that, the car was nice as well as the service.
Had a good experience in So Cal John Wayne airport.Vehicles are across the entry way and downstairs. Easy to get to, no shuttle bus to hassle with. We got a brand new (600 miles) black Chev Camaro RS in the Emerald Isle. Checked out at the gate and drove off hassle free. At the end of our two day rental period, we filled the tank, returned the vehicle and were charged a fair amount for the rental. Everything was finalized at the point of return. Charged out, received paper receipt too.I highly recommend joining the Emerald Club. You enter your info once! It is held in the system. Simply make a reservation for a mid sized vehicle, show up, go directly to the Emerald Isle and pick out a car. Thats it! No waiting in line at the counter. And you receive a discount for being an Emerald Club member.
National is by far my favorite rental car company and I am a frequent traveler renting cars every week. They treat their Executive Elite renters with an extra bit of effort and the ease and fun of choosing your own car really puts the over the top. The app is easy to use and making reservations is never a problem. The reward program of racking up rental days is fair and easy to rack up dates fast too! I highly recommend National for renting cars!
Picking up the car was easy, only took 5 minutes (note: I had an early flight, arrived at SNA at 7:15am). I had declined the pre-paid fuel and noticed they billed me for it after dropping off the car (even though I brought the car back full of gas). I called into customer service and disputed the charge which they eventually reversed.Just be cautious that they may try to charge you for something you did not approve!
Picking up a car at the John Wayne airport is always so easy. The car selection is great and checking out is quick.I had a new Volkswagen Tiguan which was beautiful and drove very nicely however, it did not have a USB port to charge my I-phone. Apparently newer cars now have the smaller ports for android phones. Maybe National could provide an adapter for the cars with these ports.
My 12 day rental turned into exchanging the suv four times. Each vehicle had issues from breaks and alignment, to the check engine light coming on. The exchange process was a hassle except for the exchange at Orlando International. The service there was outstanding. All the other locations it was a mess. I’ve been a loyal National Car renter but this past experience will make me reconsider.
All the staff I encountered were very pleasant and efficient. The only issue I had was the car I received had previously been smoked in and they just tried to cover up the smell with fragrance. I should have went back and requested a different car, but it was late and I was tired and didnt think it would be that bad...wrong! Now Im sick because Im allergic to smoke. My own fault, but I sooo wish they would really penalize people for smoking in cars and then have them deep cleaned before renting out again. Next time Ill go back and get a different car!
It was our first time renting a vehicle from National. Absolutely great experience from beginning to end. It was a fast and friendly process, we usually have a lengthy wait at other car rental locations. No wait and very much satisfied with the vehicle received, extremely clean.
Recently I have had to use 3 other rental car companies and they made me even more aware of how much I love National. There is no comparison. The ease of checking out, getting to choose your car, the friendliness of the team are just some of the highlights. I want to especially call out the managers at the Santa Ana airport who go out of their way to give you the highest level of service. If you want quality customer care--Go National!
A bit confusing to get to based on the Gmaps directions. Follow the signs for the rental car return lane when entering the airport. Grabbing the rental was quick and easy. However, the rental was still sticky from previous renter. I dont know what they did in it but the steering wheel, the middle console, the pull out cup holders behind the middle console, and the passenger seats in the back all had weird red sticky spots. It looked like someone spilled strawberry/raspberry soda and touched random places throughout the vehicle.
Can’t think of one instance or time where I have been mistreated or not helpful with a special request. - I arrived late one evening at the airport after flying all day long from coast to coast, I asked the young lady if I could pick a better vehicle she took me to a luxury vehicle and asked if this would do? I replied if it wasn’t going to cost me anymore, I would take it. She smiled and said ‘looks like you had a long rough day’ perhaps this will give you a little more comfort and would be complementary. Now, that’s customer service!
Actually the worst experience I’ve had car rental wise, no sort of cleaning or pre work done to the rental, guy just picked a random truck that had just been returned, no tags indicating the vehicle has been cleaned. Guy at the agent box had to clear out rental from return because it hadn’t been checked in or cleaned. Little shocking with COVID happening. Manager is quite unprofessional in terms of how they handled the issue I had, especially given my extensive rental history & executive elite status with National. Because I didn’t have the exact credit card on my profile, they would not let me rent the vehicle. I proceeded to provide them with an alternative card, and was told I couldn’t rent without a return flight. An absolute first from a great brand, super unprofessional manager and agent. There’s plenty of other car companies begging for business, it may be time to consider other companies if you like your vehicles to be cleaned, and desire to actually rent a car. Crazy experience. Maybe I should’ve worn my suit? lol
National is all about the cars they offer. The service at check out is always fast and easy. But having a pick of what you would like to drive that day or week is the key.The cars so far have always been new and clean.Very happy with National Car Rentals.I am a member of all the other rentals but no need to look else where.
Without a question, National Car Rental is the best car rental company I have used in over 40 years of personal and business travel. Their Emerald aisle program ability to skip the rental counter, head to the garage, pick out any car you want, get in and leave is INCREDIBLY fast, fun and wonderful. Upon return, their garage attendants check you in with a receipt within 30 seconds and youre on your way!
National / Enterprise is a fantastic car rental company. The client facing staff have performance metrics in their annual salary review that correlates directly to making us - the customer satisfied with every rental. After using Hertz for years, customer service slipped to a point I decided to go elsewhere for better service. Wow, what a surprise when I found National / Enterprise. I travel and rent every week of the year and for the past six months, Ive exclusively rented from National / Enterprise. They work hard to keep their customers and make it easy for me to remain loyal.Ill update this review after using reward points for a rental since Ive not had opportunity to test that element of their business.
I frequently rent vehicles for work. Basically Im in a rental 6 months out of the year. For the most part I have had a very good overall experience using National as well as Enterprise rental. Only issue is for longterm rentals with a business account I feel National should let you drop a vehicle at any other airport location without a crazy drop fee. Eventually, that vehicle will make its way back home. Sometimes I have no choice but to drop rental elsewhere to accommodate my job requirements. Sometimes the drop fee is more than rental cost. In short, this is occasional a real headache for the end user. Luckily I have had customer service and the branches help out on the cost. Either way its time away from their job and mine.
National is great! They have a great selection in their fleet, they have great customer service, and their prices are really good. Any issues I have had have been resolved quickly. I would highly recommend renting from National and becoming a member. The Emerald Isle is amazing!!!!
Sometimes you get a nice clean car, sometimes you can tell it wasn’t even washed and just put back out. During COVID I hate opening a door to a dirty car. I wish they put disinfectant wipes in their at bare minimum. I always rent from National because being Executive Elite is the most non stressed rental experience as I get my car and go (no red tape like when I was with Hertz). That being said I hope they starting cleaning their cars better.
The construction in the rental garage eliminated the ability to choose a vehicle from the Emerald Isle as the phone app indicated, forcing me to have to wait in line, but I was assigned a nice vehicle so it balanced out. I just wish the app informed me, so I wouldnt have bypassed the line and walked to where I thought I should find a vehicle, only to be told to return to the counter to be assigned one. I took off one star for that.
The national car rental at the Santa Ana airport is horrible. I am an Emerald aisle member have been for years. I needed a 7 passenger vehicle to drive my family from Orange a county to Seattle. They refused me the ability to choose this vehicle because they felt their local clientele was more important than my family getting home. We chose to drive due to Covid- my daughter has asthma and driving home would be safer. But it didn’t work out that way- we were forced into a 5 passenger car so my daughter and other family members had to fly home. The one thing we were avoiding. Now my children are in quarantine- shame on the manager Christopher from this location-national has lost a life long customer and a couple more!
Picking up the vehicle was very simple as an Executive Elite member I was able choose my vehicle and go. However, upon returning the vehicle was not so great. The person who checked me in stated I would need to pay a $100 detail fee due to some sand in the rear of the SUV. It was a simple vacuum job and definitely not a detail requirement.
I love National. This location, however, is the only location in my experience that has ever given me problems. Beware if you are renting for business. Not only did they try to peg previously documented damage on me, but they then charged three other direct billed business rentals to my card without asking. Have fun reconciling your credit cards...
Great customer service. We had a late arrival from the airport and cars were limited for us to choose from. The staffed worked to out for us to have a vehicle which would typically cost more for what we were already scheduled to pay. Thank you for the flexibility and customer service.
I’ve only been a member of National’s Emerald Club for less than a year but it’s one of the best things I’ve ever signed up for. Make my reservation online, go to National Car Rental at the airport, select my car (can even upgrade at that time) and drive off. They have someone as you exit who checks over the car and looks at my membership card and I’m off on vacation. Always easy and the cars are always clean and beautiful. After spending over an hour in a line at another car rental (even with my reservation) this is a piece of cake and starts my trips in a great way. Thank you National!
Executive member and the best car available was a Nissan Altima. The past few rentals have been similar. Poor selection of cars for executive. Also, their cars wreak of smoke (cigarette and pot) even though it says no smoking. I might as well start hitting the discount sites for rentals if this is the best National can do.
Didnt have to stop and checkin, just picked a car from the available selection. Had to turn the car in really early for a 6:45 am flight... just left it for them with the keys in it. My receipt was emailed shortly after. Could not have been easier and the car was clean and almost brand new. Great experience, as always.
Easy rental pick up and return. I noticed they charged me for gas even though I returned my car with a full tank. I called customer service and they were able to refund me the money. So please check your receipt when you check out. Also during Covid SUV models may not be available unless you reserve it.
Ive used National Car Rental at John Wayne Airport before and have always had a great experience. The Toyota Camry I chose this time was very comfortable and worked perfect for my 3 day trip. The only reason I am not giving this a 5 star rating is because the car had a notification that it needed maintenance. We didnt have any problems on the trip but it did make me wonder why they wouldnt service the car before a customer uses it.I do have to say that the service from the people at the rental place and the whole experience was great. Very easy to both pick up and drop off the car. I will definitely use them again.
Been at several airport Emerald isle locations, and the Orlando one is the worst. First of all there isn’t one, or at least not one labeled. Had to hunt for someone to ask and was told to get in a line???!! Was told to look at literally about 3-4 cars sitting over somewhere. Total train wreck operation. Not at all happy with the selection. I already was paying twice the normal price, and then to be treated this way??!! Unacceptable.
I typically really enjoy National and use them constantly for work. I rented a vehicle from SNA airport a week ago using a free day. I received an estimate of $3.61 for the day, taxes and fees. I ended up keeping the car a 2nd day. I called and explained I wanted to use an additional credit I have. They said after I return the car, call and apply another credit.Well I get a charge on my credit card for $436! This is after applying a free day! I called, and the woman was very nice, but explained part of the problem was the fees. They would contact the rental office and call me back. Check my CC statement a couple days later, they issued a credit, but only for $95. So still being charged nearly $350 for 1 day rental. Ridiculous!
Very conveniently located near the terminal with a short walk across the street. The only downside is that theres no Emerald Aisle where I can by-pass the counter. Otherwise, SNA is a great airport to fly in and out and will definitely use it again for future LA trip.
One of the nice things about John Wayne Airport in Orange County is that the rental cars are just a few steps from baggage claim—-no shuttle needed. Got my car from Emerald Aisle at National — a nice, new, low mileage Nissan Rogue that was perfect for our needs. Pick up was quick and easy, and drop off was even quicker. Emerald Aisle is one reason why I use National a lot. Excellent service and experience.
I want to say thank you and apologize to the crew that worked Saturday October 16th about 5:30am at John Wayne Airport Orange County.I was upset when i couldnt find my phone borderline accusing someone of stealing it.I was wrong and im sorry. Thanks for going the extra mile and for your patience you guys are the best again i apologize and i found my phone....
I travel a lot for business and National by far, is my favorite car rental company. I use them almost exclusively because I dont have to stand at a counter for 30-minutes filling out a ton of paperwork. I simply walk to the Emerald Aisle and pick a car that is within my status. It makes things quick and easy. Returning the car is just as quick and easy. The staff are always friendly but non-intrusive. The only time I dont use National is when they are out of cars. But that has only happened a few times in several years. Highly recommend National for business travelers.
This is the second time I had issue with National reservation during holiday season; somehow they managed to overbook the inventory. When I arrived, there were only two sport convertibles available. Those of us that had reserved 4-door sedan or SUV had to wait almost an hour to give them time to turn-around recent rental returns. The clerks were helpful and they said it has been beyond their control on how National managed bookings. So definitely something to watch-out for and possibly should call ahead to make sure they have your CAR on-hold for you. Check-out and return were fast, price was reasonable, and I had no other issue during my rental period.Addendum: National has replied below and requested additional information about my experience. Email was sent to care@national as asked.
I dont usually write reviews but they asked me to so here goes. We rented a car in LA for family vacation. Within two hours of being in LA our car windows were busted out and most of our belongings were stolen. Obviously that was not Nationals fault. The part that was disappointing was that it took National two days to get us a new car. I spent hours on the phone trying to get help. Very frustrating! I am an Emerald Club member and usually have had good experiences but unfortunately when my family I needed them they let us down. My advice would be to have a true emergency number that can actually have the authority to help completely because being asked to call the counter of where I rented the car is not realistic. It is virtually impossible to get through to the local counter especially at LAX.
I was extremely disappointed at how I was treated by one of your employee. I have been using your rental company for over 15 years. I was returning a rental car in John Wayne Airport and the person who was returning my car looked over my car with a fine tooth comb, he even used his hand to feel under the car, he walked inch by inch like he had all the time in the world. He than walked away to call for a supervisor without letting us know what the problem was. we waited for 5 minutes to have a supervisor come over to oversee the car. I have never experienced anything like this with your company, if you plan on being that detailed, you need to use that same examination before the car leaves the lot. It should never take over 10 minutes to return a car.
Great experience, drove car over 3000 miles, CA,AZ,NM,TX,OK, and NE. No problem. Only suggestion would be that some simple instructions for use of the Navigation system would be helpful. Had to take Cherokee to Doge dealer in OK to figure out how to enter an address outside CA.
I supposed to pick up the car at LA airport but due to technical issue with the airplane, I ended up booking another flight to John Wayne Airport instead. I then called National to change the reservation and was able to pick up the vehicle at new location without any extra charge.I did not waste anytime when picking up the vehicle. Just went to the aisle, selected the car and drive off - as simple as that. Customer service was amazing!
My experience with National was OK up until a few weeks ago when an opened beer was found in the center compartment of the vehicle I rented from National. My company has a large account with them and the lack of care and urgency was astounding. I only really got one apology and that was from the nice woman picking up my car after i dropped it off at the airport. The manager did not even come out to talk to me. After all that I talked to customer service and shared a video. They casually offered 2 days rental for my trouble. I had to hound them for weeks to finally sent the coupons to me yesterday. Very upsetting. I would have at least expected a call from a manager apologizing and more care taken to opened beer I was driving around with. The consequences could have been sever and I quite frankly dont think a police officer would buy that this was left by the rental company.
National Emerald rental experience was great. After my travel was booked National kept me well informed with easy email instructions on all the logistics I needed: how to pick up my car, dropping my car off was a breeze, and receipt was emailed to me. The only two human interactions I had was getting the car out of the parking the garage and checking it back in. It couldnt have been easier!
I needed a (2) day rental from Orange county with a drop off in San Diego. The National agent was courteous and efficient, booking me on the Emerald Isle for under $100. I picked-up a nice Ford Edge for the trip and dropped it off at the San Diego mega-car rental depot. It was a great experience. A nice SUV, for 2-days with a drop off at my chosen destination all for under 100 bucks! Im a happy customer and will be back.
As a new Emerald Club member, I recently rented a car in Orange County. it was an excellent experience - the representative was waiting for me and gave me the option of several really nice cars (and even suggested one to me which turned out to be really nice). The car was super nice and perfect for my needs. When I brought it back, the same rep was waiting and I was out of the car and on my way in a couple of minutes. This was a truly exceptional experience and I am looking forward to renting a car from National very soon.
Arrived at SNA to no vehicles on the Emerald or Executive aisles. A manager was chatting with three other customers along with us and advising that cars were coming in as we spoke. The three other customers had cars within minutes. Instead of keeping us waiting, the manager went over to a competitor rental company and brought back a vehicle for us. The vehicle was two steps above what we had pre-selected and no extra cost to us. Best rental service experience I have ever received.
Customer Service - 5/5I had one of the best experiences ever renting a car, because of Jonathan. He helped right a wrong that happened during a previous rental car experience with professionalism, attention to detail, and an impressive work ethic. After explaining to him over the phone what happened during my last rental, he quickly apologized for the inconvenience (inconvenience is putting it mildly), took ownership of finding a solution for me, and then asked me for what my ideal resolution looked like. I explained to him what I had in mind and he took care of it in a way that exceeded my expectations. This really made a big difference for my next family vacation and Im a happy National Car Rental customer because of Jonathans efforts.Thank you, Jonathan!!! You rock!!
I always use national when I rent a car. This is the first time the experience was bad. The John Wayne airport had a shortage of cars so we had to wait for a bunch of cars to get pulled in. Which defeated the propose of booking an emerald aisle car. The car we got wasnt thoroughly cleaned. Found sticky spots everywhere. Did key drop for return and had to call them days later because they didnt sign the car in and my account said I still had the car. Might have to reconsider who I book with in the future.
Had some family visit from Europe. They returned the car in good condition. Two days later, National is saying that the car was returned with a damaged tail light and lots of mud all over it - which it was not. The cameras conveniently werent on the night my family returned the car. This company then dishonestly added charges to the card on file. The only way we could get justice is if my family flew back from Germany to dispute the issue in small claims court. National Car Rental is exploiting this vulnerability. I strongly urge you to avoid doing business with this company but if you do, I strongly urge you to take your own photos before and after to protect yourself - especially if you are a foreigner with limited recourse.
Great experience with the staff at National Car Rental in John Wayne/Orange County Airport. I had rented a car for a few days for vacation, and had left my ice pack I use for lumbar support (bad back) in the drivers seat. About 20 minutes after leaving, I realized I had forgotten it and headed back. The staff was extremely helpful and were genuinely happy that they were able to find my lost item quickly. I would definitely book here again.
I rent from here practically every week and have done so for many years now. I really like the staff and how Im treated. As with any airport, when its busy you can wait a while to get out of the lot but most of the time its an easy and smooth process. As stated with other reviews, I did have an issue once with a stuck vehicle (keys were programmed incorrectly on a new vehicle) but they were great and had a tow truck there very quickly.I have used many rental companies the world over but now remain with National as I like how they operate and how they treat their customers.
This was the easiest car rental experience Ive ever had. It was very quick and efficient, and for Southern California, that says something (and during the Christmas holidays!). We had a short walk to pick out our car and off we went. Great selection to choose from. Return was simple, as well. Price was excellent. Will use National Car Rental exclusively.
Great customer service experience at this location. From someone who travels alot, it is always great to see when you experience this. It has become a rarity. While looking for a vehicle, I must have appeared to be looking for something specific and not finding it because the manager walking by asked if there is any way he could help. When I expressed that I was looking for a pickup truck if they happened to have one, he said no problem and darted off to get one for me. Within minutes I was in a really nice, new pickup and on my way. For a Monday afternoon at a busy airport, the extra level of service was wonderful to see. The truck was in great condition and very new. Could not have asked for a better ride for this trip. Thanks!
As always National was amazing! Consistently at various locations I receive above and beyond service at National Car Rental. It was a busy day and they were filling in cars as fast as they could, my husband is a very tall man so we often have to try cars on to see what he will fit in. Jimmy assured us we could take whatever car worked even if it was not what we had reserved. Always excellent service and that is why I keep coming back to National. Thanks!!!
This was my first time using National. Best car rental experience Ive had. They were super quick, super friendly, got me signed up for the Emerald Club which then gave me a free upgrade -- I ended up with a Dodge Challenger for less than $40/day after taxes and fees. Seriously impressed.
After making travel plans for a two week stay in So CA, I decided to join the Emerald Club promoted by National Car Rental. It is a wonderful benefit. I arrived at the rental facility, asked how to use the Emerald club, and was told to just select ANY vehicle from the isle jump in and show my license when leaving. Awesome, I selected a Nissan truck and had a great experience. The return was a flash. Just pull in, greeted by a smiling associate who scanned my vehicle checked the mileage and gave me my receipt....Perfect!
I love National. So easy to work with. Love that you can just skip a desk and pick your own car. All of the cars are well cleaned and washed. And there is always a friendly face waiting for you at returns. They always call me by name and make sure everything went well. I will use National any time I have the opportunity!!
My experience with National Car Rental was excellent. The opportunity to join the Emerald Club was shared with me, explained and obviously the best route to go. It made my driving experience much better due to the fact that I am not comfortable driving in heavy traffic and the upgrade to a SUV at the same price much better as that is the vehicle I am most comfortable driving but didnt want to ask my company to pay for the upgrade. Looking forward to the next rental in the upcoming months.
I usually rent about 4 times a month and have never had a bad experience renting at this location. Not being much of a car guy while using my executive isle, I often find myself undecided as to which car to pick up. Even though it is supposed to just pick up and go, I could always count on being able to talk to someone about which car I should pick based on my needs. One employee in particular, CHAD, has always helped me with all of my questions for each car that they had on the lot. His recommendation are spot on! Thank you for keeping up your spectacular service and you have earned a customer for life!
I am a frequent national car customer who rents cars all over the US. What I have noticed and do not appreciate is that my experience as a Premium Elite member is not always the same. My expectation is the that I would have access to the same type of vehicles available ( be it 3 rows, full size, two seter etc) no matter the physical location. However, that is not the case and I am most often frustrated when I expected a particular type of car and the staff shares with me that I would need to make a special request for that type of vehicle at this location. (ugh).
I really love the Emerald isle process at National. I cant even imagine a better way to check in and out a rental car. As a business traveler, getting things done quickly and efficiently is extremely important and this is an area where National excels. Ive never had a bad experience with them.
This was the easiest and most satisfying car rental experience Ive had. After leaving the airport baggage claim, I went straight down to National where I had reserved a compact car because that is as big as my company allows. I knew I was going to be taking a large group to dinner and asked if there was any way I could get a free upgrade. The rep just asked if I wanted to join the Emerald club. I said yes. He pointed me to two rows of cars and said you can pick any car in one of these rows. There were all sizes to choose from and I got a Dodge that carried 8! I will always recommend National now.
As Executive Emerald Isle I appreciate the fact that I can pick any car available. We picked a car that suited our needs, and unfortunately there was only one car of the size and needs we needed. Why was it unfortunate...because of the marijuana buds that remained in the vehicle which left a VERY potent smell. A smell that I thought was extremely obvious and how the cleaners failed to clean the car appropriately. We had asked for an air freshener, however the rental team did not have any to provide. I will continue to us National due to the consistency in well performing cars and ease in obtaining a car, however this experience was very disappointing.
First time using National Car Rental. Top notch from the beginning reservation all the way through to drop off. Immediately becoming a Club member and being able to have any pick on the Emerald Aisle at no upgrade charge. Being on a travel budget and knowing the bottom line number at return time is no more then the initial estimate is peace of mind. Also, having a car with Bluetooth capability was very cool and we used that for the first time ever. The only way to drive, Hands Free! The attendant at check out was very helpful to setup our phone and link it up. The Hyundai Sonata was a great choice. Smooth ride and good gas mileage. A return customer from now on. Thanks National!
In and out was tremendous. Airport signage easy to follow. No hassle. The only bad thing, I filled it up (without a top off as the gas pump says) and drove about 15 miles to the airport. They said it needed 3 gallons at 5+ dollars each for 15 additional dollars. But the service I got was tremendous so I hate to complain. Would use company again without hesitation.
I will preface this with I use National Car Rental specifically for their Emerald Aisle, where I can just choose from any of the available cars.Got to SNA, and made it to National Emerald Aisle and all cars were gone, and there was a line up of people waiting for a car. This is the first time I have seen this, but it was 10AM on a Monday, and they dont have a huge space in that underground parking lot for a tonne of cars.As we were standing there cars were being brought in one by one and the National Rep was effectively managing the line, offering the the next available car to the first person in line, and if they didnt want that particular car, offered it to the next person, and so on.I must admit that even though there were no cars, to choose from I still felt like I had a choice.I just took the first car offered to me as I was in a hurry and was happy with the experience.Overall, I wish I walked into a huge lot of cars with many to choose from, but this was just as good and I really cant complain.
I have traveled around the world and have many rental car experiences, I am not the first time renting from National, however, I have to say the one at SNA Airport the worse, ever! The manager named Josh showed no care or concern and no empathy with hospitality attitude when they do not have our reserved car class available.
Like being able to pick car & your sales staff are knowledgeable & friendly. This particular trip had an initial problem with car. Reserved an SUV but only thing available was a mini-van. Exchanged it the next day for Ford Edge, which was great vehicle. Extended stay twice with no problems. Will continue to rent from National.
I got a decent car (Chevy Equinox). Because of my Emerald executive status, I sometimes get nicer cars as well. My only complaint about this car was that the right side of drivers side seat had some eatables (chips etc) that had not been cleaned. i discovered it only after an hour in to my drive, but hope to get cleaner cars next time...
Service was great, everyone was very helpful. Even though the class car I reserved was not ready, they were willing to upgrade me at no extra cost. If I traveled enough I would definitely get their emerald aisle club membership. My friend has it, and it was just a different experience to walk up and pick the car you want, no muss no fuss, and checkout. I would use them again in the future.
Car was fine, but for a company who pushes their emerald isle where you can pick the car you want its usually a few models of bland cars, so not really anything fun to drive. Im about 50/50 on getting something Id like to drive vs. just an econo-box vehicle. Its a car rental, no one really stands out with great service and choice yet... waiting for the one who disrupts the market with something noteworthy.
Using Nationals Emerald Aisle is super easy and convenient. The ability to bypass the counter, pick your own car and be on your way in a matter of minutes will make me a loyal National customer for years to come. The cars available are clean and what I expect from a rental car, all at a reasonable price. I would recommend their services to any potential customer.
Nationals Emerald Club is the best, it allows me to pick a car from the lot straight out of the airport, no waiting in line at the counter, also they have a decent selection of cars to pick from, on this last opportunity I chose a Ford Fusion Eco-Boost that was almost brand new with only 2300 miles on the odometer, it was very well equipped with many options for comfort. I will always rent from National whenever possible.
I have had no problems with National Rental Car before until you have a problem. I had realized I left the lot later in the rental without a full tank of fuel. I purchased fuel and spent $45 on fuel but only drove 132 miles. I told that to the person upon return and he ignored my request. It was early in the morning on my return so I went to the car rental counter and saw an agent with the green outfit on and approach her and she went through the door to the back of the rental car counter but then came out and told me the rental counter was not open and therefore could not help me. I then called the 800 number and the agent told me the best she could do was to refund me $22.18. I guess what disappoints me is that I did not cause this problem and received a refund but not the full amount I felt I deserved. I will continue to rent from National but is this what a customer should experience? I am more disappointed than anything else.Doug
I applaud your service. Every trip I take has been a breeze when it come to my car rental through National. Ive never had a issue and since I became an Emerald Club member, Ive enjoyed the ease of choosing the car of my choice along with some of my upgrades. Returns are a breeze too. Again, great service!
Recommend National to everyone, especially at John Wayne. Super easy and painless. Take elevator down to bottom floor -- walk out -- pick a car -- and go; dont wait on anyone and takes less than 1 minute. Always a solid selection of cars. The one time I had an issue (flat tire), National dispatched a local guy to come help change the tire and arranged a change of cars at the closest National (Ontario airport) which was super easy and I was in and out in less than 5minutes - quick and simple.
I am a fan of National and have rented for years. Many of those years, renting 70 days a years. So, I have a history and have to date not had one bad experience. So thats a great record. This rental, however, was disappointing. I picked the car up at SNA John Wayne. Where Ive rented dozens of times. This time there was no car selection. I needed / wanted a smaller vehicle. Only available, trucks, minivans and very large SUVs. I picked the Nissan Arma. My disappointment in the fact that the big cars are not as easy to drive on LA Freeways, and the gas expenses would be exorbitant. And they were.I wish that hadnt been the case.Theres my feedback.Thank you.
I should’ve left this review long ago. Of all the cities I travel to regularly, this National location always has the best customer service. Always! Today, I left a case in my rental that was valuable to me, and didn’t realize it until about a half hour after I dropped it off. After a short wait, Brandon showed up with the case. Awesome score! Thanks for the continued great service! (And I’ll pay closer attention next time!)
When I showed up at the rental office to pick up my car @ John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, I realized my membership had lapsed, the attendant signed me back up with no questions and applied my rental immediately. I walked out, chose a car and drove off. Checking out at the booth was as smooth as ever. Attendants were all extremely pleasant and helpful. National makes it so easy that its like simply walking into your own garage and driving away except they open the garage door for you.
Loyal National customer, but this location is the worst. No isle selection, you just get the car they give you, doesnt matter if you had a reservation or requested a particular vehicle. They keep no cars on hand. You just stand in line with everyone else (reservation or not) hoping someone returns a car so you have one for the night. Cars are not cleaned, looked over, or anything, they go straight from the return lane on to the next person in line. Several of us in line were completely shocked when the lot attendant told us there are no cars and we would have to wait in line until some are returned. When we expressed our concern he only laughed and said theu may do it differently at other locations, but its always like that hereCaring canned response after contacting National about my experience...I am very sorry to hear about the experience you had at our John Wayne Airport location and the wait time and vehicle selection. We are always striving to be more efficient, and to do right by our customers, but in certain peek moments, there can be a delay for vehicles. We appreciate your concerns and will definitely take them into account moving forward. It is my hope that you will continue business with National Rent A Car. You are a very valued customer, and your words matter!
I have been an emerald member of National for a while and love it. In Orange County, they are always so helpful! This last trip I forgot to reserve a car and made a reservation at baggage claim. Upon arrival to the counter one of the associates saw my famil of 5 with all our stuff and promptly asked if we would be more comfortable in a complementary upgrade to a minivan. So sweet!
Car wasn’t cleaned very well. The person rented it before us smoked marijuana in it and saturated the interior we had to drive around with windows down both days. I’m a Pilot aswell has we been pulled over it would not have been good trying to explain that smell to the police and my Federal license would have been in jeopardy aswell as my job.
I generally love National. The model just works for me. I walk out of the airport, grab a car and off I go. Then there is SNA... I flew in there 4 times this year, twice there were not enough cars and a line to get them and once I sat waiting to exit for 15 minutes. Ive not experienced this level of consistently poor service at any other National and I travel a lot. I dont know if they dont have enough space for the necessary cars, not enough people or just poor management. You cant tell the Executive and Executive Elite cars, just generally a mess. Almost makes me want to use Enterprise and have someone yammer at me for 15 minutes.
The rental part, pickup, and delivery all were pretty smooth. The car we picked up wasnt all that clean....the windshield was a mess, both inside and out, and the mirrors were so dirty I had to clean them myself. There was liquid in the cup holders, not sure if it was soda or just water left over. Paying a little more attention to detail in cleaning the cars would go a long way to making me a happier customer.....I wouldnt drive my own cars that way.
My overall experience with National is very positive. The only complaint I have is when they accidentally charge me for fuel. This has happened several times which makes me wonder if it’s actually a mistake. I fuel right across the street from the airport and make sure that my tank is full before removing the hose. They used to email me my receipt so now I get the copy when turning the car in. They’ve always credited me back the fuel charge, it’s just an inconvenience to have to call to get it removed. Other than that theyre great!
I have rented three cars over the past month from the National Car rental place at John Wayne Airport and not one of them has had the inside windows cleaned. Its pretty bad when you have to clean them yourself to see out of them. Come on National, you can do better for Executive Members!!!!
Emerald club member- definitely worth registering, free upgrade. Short walk from the baggage claim, and I was in my car and on the road in minutes. Wide selection of cars, all newer models. My Jeep Renegade had less than 9K miles on it, clean and comfortable. Return of the vehicle was even faster. Will use again.
First time user of National, and also signed up as an Emerald member before making my reservation. I got into the garage, and asked a friendly guy in the booth how it worked. He looked at my paperwork and waved his arm, saying pick anything and drive it to the exit. I paid for a mid size car, but picked a Nissan Rogue as my best option for comfort and zipping on SoCa freeways. The SUV was low mileage, and performed great. Drop off went fine, with immediate check in and directions to the terminal given with my receipt. Was all I could hope for in a rental.
Its easy to take care of customers when nothing goes wrong. I had an issue with a rental car not working, and National blew it. I will spare you the letter I emailed to Adam Gillotti, the manager at the site. I have given him a week to respond and he hasnt.I am a frequent renter from National. Emerald Executive, all that. When my rental didnt start on Saturday, March 23, I phoned the Roadside Assistance. I was not treated well, and it took four hours for a tow truck to arrive. Among things that happened:1. I was on hold for over twenty minutes four different times.2. I was told that there was a Tow Exchange, but it wasnt working and they sent me to AAA.3. I asked the person on the phone if they knew what the error message on my console meant, and he said, I dont know, Im not a mechanic. Just thought, you might have an FAQ, because you know, you are Roadside Assistance.4. While on hold with Roadside Assistance, I called the reservation line and was speaking to a live person within a minute. That shows misplaced priorities.5. AAA arrived over two hours after being called. They said that they made an earlier attempt, but there was no car and nobody around. I was in the parking lot of a hotel. I was waiting in the lobby, the valets and the front desk had been alerted to watch for a tow truck. That is a lie.6. The tow truck driver hooked up my car, then promptly pulled into a parking lot to meet his wife, because she was bringing his lunch money. He left me alone in the truck.7. National employees blamed everyone but themselves. It was so frustrating.8. It was 7:45, or five hours after I made my first call, before I was back at the hotel with a working car.It doesnt matter to me that Roadside Assistance, AAA, and the towing company are all third parties, as was pointed out to me by every National employee I dealt with. I called National, and they left me hanging. Own it.
Love their Executive Emerald Aisle, Great selection of new fully loaded SUVs and Cars. I picked a brand-new Ford Explorer for our Disneyland vacation. We were all completely blown away with the high-end feature and comfort. Picking it up and dropping it off was very ease and fast. I will defiantly use National again.
I have rented many times from this location. The service is very good; the rental cars are all in very good conditions; the staff are very friendly and professional. The Orange County Airport is a very business oriented airport, and everything is fast here. The staff appreciate the fact and i can drop off my car 30 mins before boarding thanks to the fantastic service national car rental provided.
After 10 years with Budget Car Rental, this was my first experience with National. Everything was great EXCEPT I had to call 3 time and wait 2 days to get my receipt. A little difficult to get my expenses report done; hope this isnt indicative of my future rentals with them.
I was very disappointed in the selection for Executive Aisle. There were 3 vehicles in the aisle, one without keys, one without checkout documents and the third vehicle had a very dirty windshield that I did not discover until I drove out of the garage. It took around 15 to 20 minutes to exit the National rental area due to the backup at the gate which was being served by one attendant. The returning of the vehicle was totally different. The attendant was quick, professional and very friendly.
National will always be my number one choice anywhere, but my recent experience at Orange County Airport left a lot to be desired. The cars in the executive aisle did not have keys and you had to proceed back to the booth to get them. When the car was returned, the agent could not figure out how to print a receipt. It took more than ten minutes from the time the car was parked until I got a receipt. The agent was also a little short fused. This experience is likely an anomoly as I typically have great experiences with National everywhere. I may have just hit the Orange County airport facility on the wrong days and had the wrong people working.
Ive rented from this location several times. Usually had no problems at all picking and selecting a car all the way through check out. On my last visit, despite I declined fuel service option (FSO) and had called them to have it removed, they still charged me when i returned the vehicle. But that was immediately removed when I brought it up. Overall great experience. 4 stars just for that trouble and misunderstanding.
I was able to choose a premium car but my car smelled like smoke (so did several others). The agent at check out admitted that people smoke in their cars which, if you know that, clean the car before you rent it again. My final issue was turning the car in. Somehow my car was checked in under my name 2 says earlier, it tool several minutes to prove that that I was driving the car I rented and check the vehicle back in. The airport and process was very confusing and an extreme lack of communication.
Picked up the National rental outside the SWA terminal at SNA. It was quick, I selected the vehicle, adjusted the mirrors before backing out. I must admit it took a moment to locate the shifter. This newer vehicle had them on the console, once identified the vehicle drove wonderfully. Vehicle was clean, no maint issues and return was efficient. I returned at a different airport without issue. I will be selecting National on my next trip.
Reservations were simple and quick. Checking in and checking out were as expected. I had rented a four-door, full-size car and its performance was less than expected. Every time I came to a need to stop, the transmission appeared to slip. It was a bit disconcerting. When I returned the car, I was told that particular model has that kind of problem. If that was the case, I should have been told when I arrived and I wouldnt have taken that type of car.
Excellent choice of cars in Emerald Club. No hassle checking out and couldnt be easier checking in. Staff were outstanding. My only gripe is when I recently attempted to increase a rental period from 5 days to 9 days the price went from $543 to $820. Hertz was $200 cheaper for the same rental.
National is my preferred choice for a rental car. Their customer service is great with friendly employees. The Emerald Club membership is a great idea because you get to pick your favorite car from a row of available cars. Upon return, the check-out service is quick and easy.
Quick and Easy. Super fast service. Wasnt happy that I had to purchase more insurance once I got the vehicle. I thought that was settled through HOTWIRE. Fool me once. Anyway I will always rent from National. Best service I ever had on renting a car. Thanks National.
I am usually always happy with renting from National Car Rental but recently I was going to run late and needed some more time or to rent another day. I would have rented another full day if I knew I was going to incur the charge. I called up National Customer Service and was told I had a few more hours to turn it in but when I did they charged me another day and would not honor Customer Services pledge.
I rent from National all the time but have noticed that the cars are not as clean on the exterior mostly and interior sometimes as I would expect. It seems as if the cars are washed by not dried thoroughly so the car looks really shoddy when you drive it off the lot. I have also found the interior, on occasion, to have not been wiped down or not to have been treated from a previous drivers smoking habit. This has all been within the past 6 months so not sure if there is a challenge in cleanliness policy but it shows.
National = 5 stars. Airport signage from terminal to location = -1 star. The signs that lead from inside the airport are poor - my first time in SNA. It’s easy to miss the required elevator. It’s tough to find your way to National and the Emerald aisle. It’s tough to find your way back from returns to the terminal. The good news - National is on the airport property just a short walk from the terminal. Also, the car selection was good and staff helpful.
I am an Emerald Club member of National and usually have only praises for the company, however for my last rental I was somewhat shocked when I reviewed my electronic bill. The Fuel Service Option which I was encouraged to get was almost $85. I drove the car for a week but never drove that many miles and used less than an 1/8 tank of gasoline, which cost me the almost $85.I have learned a value lesson here for future rentals, NEVER choose the Fuel Service Option. I would have rated National 5 Stars due to my past experiences but this Fuel Service Option dropped them to a 3.
I picked up the car later in the evening. The selection of Executive vehicles was very limited. I also noticed after leaving the rental location that the interior of the car was dirty. There was a white substance in several large areas in the back seat which I took to be suntan lotion. Apparently the car didnt receive a proper cleaning after the prior rental since the inside of the windshield looked like it was wiped with a dirty wet rag.
Emerald Aisle is simply amazing. Ive used National several times. Each time I utilize them I am in and out in of the garage just like I was getting into my own car. Pick a car and go on the way out and when you come back they are ready for me before I even exit my car.Great job National!

2022-04-18Excellent experience from start to finish. Picked up vehicle at Ontario, Orange County airport. When I told the attendant we ended up with more luggage than when I made the reservation due to bringing my golf clubs, he cheerfully upgraded me to a larger vehicle at no additional cost. When I returned the vehicle to the San Diego airport, the process (other than the car rental center being two miles from the airport) was smooth and courteous. My experience with National was excellent. A warning though for those renting or returning a vehicle in San Diego….allow extra time.

2022-05-27It was a very simple process . We landed got the bags went to the National counter .There was not anybody there . But a sign directed you where to go.. Followed the directions to where we get the vehicle. The person who checked us in was professional and directed us to the vehicle. Which was clean and ready to go.. The drop off went smoothly we were told where to go for departing flights. The staff here was also professional . This was a very positive experience

2022-05-03We had a great experience with National Car rental. The only negative was the return location at the airport which was underground. The car was in excellent condition and a dream to drive, the staff who checked us in and out were accommodating and knowledgeable, the pick up and return process was easy and the car was clean and more than met our needs.

2022-02-28National has been my primary rental car company for over 20 years. I am always pleased and impressed with the courteous staff at each location, and the consistent quality of the vehicles. On the rare occasions that I use another service, other rental car companies only reinforce my loyalty.

2022-01-24National at John Wayne airport created its own magic for me during my trip last week. Upon my arrival to the kiosk, the rental agent, or customer experience liaison, in my mind, greeted me with a smile. Through an exchange of Q & A she knew my situation and needs, then offered a vehicle that exceeded my expectations! I drove a lot that week so, my sincere thanks goes out to the best customer experience liaison! See y’all soon

2022-01-24I usually love National. I live close to the airport and there are always tons of choices. Service there is always really quick. The reason for 2-stars is because of my terrible experience over the holidays. We rented a car that had a dashboard light come on. We were led to an Enterprise where we were turned away, theres nothing here. The lot was full of rentals. Like we werent picky at all and would have taken a Corolla. Any way we drove all the way back to the airport and picked out a new car (4 hours of holiday/weekend traffic on the 91, IYKYK). This part of the trip cost us so much extra time and effort. We needed to book a hotel. The new car worked great until we got a flat 2 states away. When we called National roadside we were told that we werent in their network area? LIKE WHAT? Being called National you think you would still cover Nevada, right. Anyway. Threw the donut on and we drove to the nearest location, St. George, Utah. The guy there was working Christmas Eve and helped us out. Gave us the keys to a Camry. Thank goodness that car had no issues! Ill write a 5-star review probably next time.

2022-06-14Checking in and out went fairly smoothly. We did not get the car I reserved but ended up with a Ford Explorer. It was a big SUV for just the two of us and was rather big to park in smaller slots. It was comfortable. They contacted us that they did not have the car info so I snapped a picture of the license plate and texted it to them. They confirmed receipt. Things worked out.

2022-05-27The reservation process was very simple. I even had to change the pick-up/drop-off location and was able to do it online in a matter a minutes. When we arrived at the airport we are able to walk right up to our car and head out.The drop-off was seamless as well.

2022-04-01We want to commend the outstanding service of your employee Alan at the Santa Ana airport location. Alan went out of his way to help us find the perfect car for our California vacation. Thank you so much Alan! we are always impressed by the service and care by the entire National team! We look forward to our next National rental! Jim and Kim Douglas

2022-01-03National has never once let me down either pre-Covid, or my recent rental this most recent Christmas. The promised class of vehicle was always ready and fully fueled for immediate use.The personnel are well trained, efficient and friendly. The cars are clean and well maintained. Also never had any issues with them during rentals. I usually rent for 3 days to a week at a time and not having to worry about the rental car is such a nice perk to have on business or leisure trips!I hope National keeps up the great work as their excellent service is something that I and my family have come to rely on for our rental cars. Happy New Year to everybody. Special shout out to Tyler Rios who cheerfully helped me out early morning the day after Christmas. (Hope i remembered righr because i lost his business card.)
