I love this park! $6 entrance and its cleane every time I go. The pond has actually got better through the years. Great for parties or just sight seeing. Museum is free, but I wished there was more stuff to see in there. Also if the boats would come back it would be amazing.
Ive had the pleasure of a handful of extended family gatherings at Mooney Grove. The park recalls the natural landscape that existed before agricultural, urban and suburban development in the area. Its a great place for those gatherings. As I recall, group spots can be reserved to ensure nearby parking, picnic tables, restrooms, and other park features are not overly crowded. Popular spots are popular! The park provides a nice blend of features, and is home to an awesome local history museum having plenty of exhibits.
Such a beautiful park! Picnic spaces, event spaces, playground, museum! Geese and chickens! this place has so much shade, beautiful trees. Attended a brew fest there a few Saturdays ago and it was the first time visiting this park. There is also a trolley that picks up people in downtown Visalia and drops you at the park. Great park!
This is been the second time that Ive been to the Mooney Grove Park and I really love this place the bathrooms are clean theyre always very polite when you come in I think its very nice for a family reunions social Gathering or anything that you can think of I would definitely recommend this place for any kind of party Gathering or just to come and have fun
This is a great park for all ages. The park was actually closed at the time, but the disc golf area was accessible from the opposite end. There were many groups playing, so we played a round, as well. It was a bit muddy in some spots, but overall was a great experience.
I grew up going to Mooney Grove Park. My great grandfather was a landscape manager there. When we took the grand children there it was in decline. No swings were up. You could not walk without stepping in goose poop. Gone are the days of chasing peacocks, paddling on the little lake or the enjoyment of strolling the park. Shame on you Tulare County.
I have a lot of thoughts about this park.First, if you knew what this park was like many many years ago then you will feel a bit disappointed. They used to have Paddleboats you could rent and ride around the lake. There was a concession area for treats and at one time they even had a little rides. It wasn’t just a park where you could enjoy nature, but it almost felt a little fair like. There is a museum you can walk through that has a history of the Indians from this area as well as the first school house. You can tour Through the museum and there is a fenced in area with old buildings you can look through. Old houses and a school house and even a train car. If you go further down into the park there is another museum that is newer and teachers about the immigration from different areas and what they contributed to our agriculture. I Enjoyed the information on the walls of this museum but there wasn’t much hands-on so my kids didn’t like it.The park itself is pretty big and usually you have to pay per car to get in. There are geese everywhere which are cool from far away but they will attack at any time. There is bird poop pretty much everywhere and there are a lot of holes in the grass. It is nature after all, And I think it’s still a fun place to have a picnic and play. There are a few play structures in the park but during the summer they are too hot to play on.While I would like to see some of the old attractions brought back and maybe a little more focus on keeping the park better groomed, I Still think it’s a great place to walk around and enjoying nature. But for real those geese are A holes so watch out.
Beautiful park! It has lots of BBQ grills and bench table seatings. Great spots to pick out, for you to BBQ with family, friends; for large groups settings and business companies. The museum is still in good shape, and its open to the public. Lots of people enjoying feeding the ducks and geese by the pond. Missed the boat rides they had before.
It is a beautiful place. They have cleaned it up big time.I did not get to go in the museum, last tour is at 345pm but the park has ducks, geese, and peacocks that are fun to feed and watch. Lots of space to have any type of gathering. Only downside is the parking. You can either park on the outskirts of Park which requires you to walk a distance or you can park in side of Mooney Grove if a space is available.
Great place to relax have lunch visit with friends and plan your day wide open space plenty of room 2 have functions BBQ birthday parties any type of Celebration that you dont mind having Outdoors Ive been going there all my life 54 years awesome place very clean well-groomed
Excellent place. Mix of historic value and outdoors activities. The next time someone complains that it isnt up to par, tell them to vote, and volunteer, to make a difference. Its a fantastic place to play disc golf, BBQ, peddleboat, learn about local history, see a car show, etc.
A beautiful, well maintained park with an abundance of wildlife, including an entertaining family of squirrels. To see all the squirrels heads peeking out of their underground homes, looking over at you, wondering what type of creature you are, is so mesmerizing, you dont want to look away. The ducks and geese have such fascinating characters, you will find yourself laughing at their adorable, sassy swag. There are different species of birds and the park is alive with their song. The grass is well-manicured and picnic areas are clean. Its soothing to lie under the trees and relax with Mother Nature. The museum is interesting and an enjoyable walk through. There are plenty of restrooms scattered throughout the park. There are childrens play areas and a pond I saw a father and son fishing at. This park is a great place for all ages, parties, picnics or just meditation.
Amazing place! The place is beautiful in huge and there is never a time that I go there that I am too close to someone else or another party of people I can always have enough space in between me and others to sit there and reflect on life and reflect on how beautiful the place is. And theres a plus side for all the local disk golfers like myself because there is two full 18-hole courses in the whole place and a beautiful pond with ducks so you cant go wrong with a beautiful Museum theres always something to look at and somewhere to go!!
Ducks, Geese, Peacocks, and Lawns are beautiful. Plenty of picnic areas. Bird poo everywhere. Swings all broken. Some nice playground equipment, but too hot to use on a sunny day. Disc golf course weaves through picnic and play areas, great fun during off hours and hazardous the rest of the time. Huge staff. Randomly costs money to park car during summers. Randomly closed.
I love taking my kids here for feeding the ducks and playing at all 4 playgrounds. There is also a museum to walk thru which is nice to have the children experience what buildings were like in a different time in history. There is a park entry fee but that varies at different times and seasons. This park is where there are alot of parties and events that go on during the weekends, so the week is a better time to go if you want it more relaxed.
The park is very nice to spend the day with family. There is a small pond where you will be treated to goldfish, ducks and geese. The park also has a museum which is open during the day. There is an admission fee of $5.00 per vehicle. Drinking is allowed and a park ranger is present during park hours which is posted at the entrance. Arbors may be rented and range in price from $45.00 to $180.00 depending on size.
Bird poop, you read it before. Being able to fish sets this place apart. Unless you come when they plant, you may not catch anything. My kid fell in the water, Im sure that happens often so bring extra clothes. Lots of room, great for kids to ride scooters, bikes and the likes. Only been once, well have to see whats its like in warmer weather.
Went there for the first time recently for a family reunion. It really is a nice place. I gave only 4 stars because the mens restroom needed to be hosed down not to be too graphic but there were solids on the floor and the benches needed cleaning as well. Entry price was good only $6 per car and free for seniors. But all and all nice place.
Great memories here, but it has gone downhill. There used to be two different stages for performing. The peacocks used to run wild all over the grass and park. There used to be several swing and jungle gym areas and picnic areas including a train for children. The boat rides were the most fun. It had such beautiful swans.
This place could be a great park. But it is poorly managed. There are overgrown weeds all over. Mole mounds everywhere. Pond is in horrible condition. There are goose droppings all around the pond perimeter. Only visited this park because I was looking for a photo shoot location. Would not recommend to go here for a picnic or an afternoon stroll.
It was better maintained when I was a child! And that was over 55 years ago. ! Its sad to see alot of the drying out of the grass and no drinking fountain s that work I would be willing to pay to use the park if it would improve its over all appearance ! Miss the boat rides we had as children 🙁
Fishing was great. But be aware the park closes at 5pm during the week. The park curator or whoever comes to close the gate will rudely let you know. He even drives his car through the grass around the park edge. Heard him yell and threatened park goers! Totally unacceptable and unnecessary.
$6 parking per car, even if you have reserved an arbor. The park is large and has play areas for children. A great place to fly a kite, have a picnic, play Frisbee golf (bring your own, its $15 if you buy in park), or have an event.Theres plenty of parking, its very spread out so even on busy days, it doesnt feel crowded.
One of the most, if not best, parks here in the Visalia/Tulare area. Landscaping is beautiful and well maintained and the playgrounds are usually kept clean as well. Love taking my daughter to go watch the ducks and squirrels. The perfect place to host any type of event. I threw my daughters birthday party here and we all had a great time.
We took our young son (11) to view the museum but it was closed. We didnt know but we went on one of the two days its closed . But it turned out not to be a disappointment at all because of all the rest of the park and most interesting small creatures which abounded everywhere !! I had as much enjoyment visiting as our son did. He is going on a field trip with his class at school so my husband thought it would be a good idea to go and give him a peep of the park before-hand. I grew up here as did my husband and the both of us had experienced Mooney Grove Park from an early age with our families. We told him about the boat rides and the small amusement park rides they had in the summer months. How our parents would bar b que and toss horseshoes around. Lots of fun. Hope these young ones take the time or get the chance to experience Mooney Grove Park like we did. Peacocks , squirrels , ducks , geese and all .
I absolutely love this park! Ive been going since I was a little kid! They have it all! Places to rent for parties throughout the park. Places to rent for events. They have events throughout the year as well. Multiple bathrooms throughout the park. They have some hysterical buildings as well as a museum in the park. If you are wanting to play some sprot they have baseball dimands, two disc golf courses, fields for whatever else you want to play, also have a horse shoe setup. The wild life is there too! They have lots of birds, squrles, cats, fish, and turtles. The geese have there babys at the park to you can find 100eds of geese and there babys at the right time of the year!!!
A lovely city park boasting two 18 hole disc golf courses. An employee, Wendy, was an absolute delight at the front gate. Cheap boats to rent on the weekend ($5) and lots of waterfowl on the pond. Many arbors and picnic tables. Dont park on the road that runs along the north side of the park; you can be ticketed.
Tht hearN is is a nice break on a long drive to stop, stretch your legs and use the restroom or picnic on your way through....if you are into fishing, the artificial lakes are stocked with wide mouth bass and the disk golfing is excellent! It features two 18 hole disc golf courses and the back 18 will demand stamina and long distance throws.... a road runner couldnt hurt ... bring a fish scooping net in case you wind up in the waterway
Really cute park, but they charge entry if youre in a car, it is close to a bus stop though. Cute peacock watching, geese, beautiful trails, barbequeing stations, playgrounds, horseshoes, museums, historical statues, dog walking allowed, plenty to do.... some disc things I didnt know what they were, and plenty of shade and water to cool down the park. I wish Visalia would have better parks in the city instead of edges of town...Complaints: The grass does need some work but understandable with the drought, too many goat heads around edges of park, for charging entry they could at least maintain the swing sets.
Mooney Grove Park was a very nice surprise. The lake view, the wild life were both very relaxing. The staff at the museum were very pleasant and knowledgeable. It was interesting seeing the historically buildings and artifacts. It was nice to see the Visala Saddles in the display, especially aftering seeing a tv special about those famous saddles.

Cubscout trip/ sleepover was soo awesome. We had a huge bonfire. We stayed up late walked around park with everyone. Children had a lot of fun playing games , baking , roasting marshmallows, looking for acorns, walking, talking. Made new friends too. Mooney park is awesome.
I actually live in Visalia and yet hadnt really ever visited this park. The grounds were overgrown in many areas, bathrooms were not clean, trashes were over flowing in some areas. However, the musium looked interesting and I will be going to check that out, but as far as thoughts of booking a function here, I will pass. I admit, I was disappointed in the lack of upkeep. Its a beautiful area, just could use some improvment on the grounds
The park is beautiful I wish they would bring the boats out during the summer and I wish they would open their snack bars that they used to have open years ago way before I was even in Visalia they could make sure 2 clean up after the ducks and gooses everything there is actually really nice.
Worst maintained park of all of Visalia. Between the holes and the bird poop and ants, you cant even walk around without almost breaking an ankle, shoes being covered in bird poop or getting eaten by ants. The bridge could use some major repairs as well. The funding doesnt seem like its actually going to work on the park. Its sad.
I give it two stars because its big and the havent cut down the trees other than that its incredibly sad to see the shape this park is in ponds in bad shape the pictures from the 50s or so make it look like it was a beautiful carnival year round .that needs to come back as do the boats and rental bikes
We enjoy going to Mooney Grove Park because we can take Our four legged babys with Us to enjoy the Park as well. Plus Me & Husband used come here when we were Children Our Parents used bring Us here also so its been in Our Families for Years for enjoyment for the summer.
Have always loved Mooneys Grove Park. Sad to see it falling to such disrepair and the trees that Mr. Mooney intended to be protected are slowly dwindling. Newer isnt usually better than the good old days. Take some of the money being spent to fix up parks that are already fixed and spend some money on the Grove! And all these non-profits that claim to be raising money just for the park, where is all the money they are making for the park? Im just sick to my stomach over all this greed.
The park manager is allowing the trees and grass in the park to die defeats the whole purpose of calling it a park. The maintenance crew does a poor job of cleaning the place. The Frisbee golf course is amongst the best around. The shade structures are in structurally questionable condition for what they charge as a park fee and rental of one of the shade structures this park is subpar.
This was the gem of Visalia when I was a kid but it appears Tulare County officials dont place much value in it now. Its fairly run down. Pay no attention to the pretty pictures of boats and lushly planted islands and such on some sites. Those are from years ago. The boats are gone along with the lush. With that said, its still a place I take the family, where my girls can feed the geese and ducks and turtles - yes, they have turtles - and they always love it. And they really enjoy visiting the peacocks. This from long ago: One of the grandest objects of nature in Tulare County, second only to the majestic forest of sequoias within its confines, is its oak trees . . . . -- John Tuohy in the Hanford Journal, quote in the Visalia Delta newspaper, October 8, 1909The old oaks are taking a beating and some are being removed as witnessed just last Saturday. There are young trees in stands around others but neglect and drought have taken a toll on the established grove.I hope the county recognizes that parks like this are rare and should be appropriately funded and maintained. Id love to see the return of the boats...and the lush.
Had a socail bbq for work Was all good until the grounds keeper came by told us that they were about to close wicth was fine and we needed to pack up are kids and all are stuff right now or he was going to call the police very rude born and rased here lots of other parks i no he has a job to do but come on and that was the first time he had spoken to us live here wont be back cant post unless i pu k a rating so - 5

2021-10-03Out in the parking lot, one has the view of a couple of smallish buildings leading one to believe its just another ho hum museum. I was completely fooled. This museum goes on and on. I spent three hours looking at some very cool stuff. Great place for kids and adults alike. My favorite steam tractor is in the pictures.

2022-04-29As an out of state tourist: Cute museum. You can tell it was an amazing park at one time, but you can tell its being poorly maintained, and choices like knocking the walls into the dried creek beds was idiotic and looks tacky. . It could be resurrected and become a great park again...... if someone local cared. Trees are not being taken care of nor is most of the grounds. This type of park is a relic not to be created new again.... but could be saved.

2022-03-29This is my favorite park, been coming here since I was born. However, the park is not open to the public 7 days a week anymore and grass was over grown but overall this is a very beautiful and peaceful place to go. Ducks, peacocks, fishing, frisbee golf, pond, historical museum, jungle gyms for the kids, so much to do with the family.

2022-04-28Kids love it. We walked a lot on the grass and picked up some fleas, probably from the squirrels so spray is a must. During fishing season it guess it a bit sad because you see lots on injured ducked due to fish line getting wrapped on on them so it would be nice if they checked the ducks as its a man-made problem.

2021-03-27Beautiful park with lovely playground for children, plenty of shade during the summer, and lots of ducks and geese to watch on the water. One of our favorite places in Visalia!

2021-01-19We were looking for a place to take the kids. We found this perfect place. It has lots of places to sit down and eat. The playgrounds are great for the kids. The bridge is so nice to walk on and take some break taking pictures. You can feed the goose and ducks. We found some water fountains around the park. You will also find lots of places to do a barbeque. They have lots of parking spaces. Lots of places to walk and run. Lots of green areas and trees and places to play disc golf. This is one of the best places to visit in Visalia!

2022-05-01Arselmo The parks groundskeeper came up to us at 6:25pm as we where taking photos of my Daughter for her birthday and was extremely rude to us stating you need to get out Now! At 1st I thought his rudeness was a joke so I said oh yeah at 7pm when you close right we are almost done. Then he stops his truck gets out and Proceeds to get in my face and stated we needed a permit/License as we where a vender! I told him no we where not a vendor and this was a public park. He was so unprofessional and extremely rude I can’t believe Mooney‘s Grove would employ someone like that. Not to mention they where closing down the park a half hr early on a Saturday. Something needs to be done regarding this jerk.

2022-05-31Makes for a nice walk. All types of birds and huge trees for shade
