Absolutely beautiful ski resort. Tons of runs. Seemingly well maintained chair lifts. Excellent customer service from all of the staff. Multiple locations to hangout while riding. One place that was particularly cool was The Outpost at the back of the mountain by chair 14. The MeltHouse is the main building in The Outpost and they have gourmet grilled cheeses that sound amazing. They provide free water and ample seating. There is even a mini bar. There are a ton of cool places like that all around the mountain. Another place I enjoyed was The Mill. They served delicious tri-tip chili and other really great options. The gondola takes you from The Village almost up to the summit and has an incredible view at the top. Mammoth also offers an incredibly convenient and efficient public transit system that goes all around the entire resort and covers most of the town. I was very impressed with it. The conditions were decent when I went but Mammoth is known for getting tons of fantastic snow throughout the season. One of the days I was there, there were extremely strong winds and most of the chairs had to be shut down. I heard the summit had winds up to 180 MPH. The cost of lift tickets is extremely high in my opinion but I can see why based on the amount of effort that is required to run the ecosystem that is Mammoth Mountain. I would highly recommend going to Mammoth at least once.
Beautiful experience of Gondola to the mammoth mountain at 11K feet .The views of the snow capped mountains from the gondola are floorsweeping .We reached there at 9 in the morning but managed to find parking 40 min later down the hill .Its that packed . Took their shuttle to reach the gondola area
This place was mind blowing. The resort was clean, organized, and so friendly. The staff went out there was to make sure we were comfortable and had everything for our 3 day snowboarding adventure. I took a beginner group class here and by the end of the class I was do ling S turns down the bunny hill. The whole class of 4 females was starting to link turns. This shows you the training skills this man had. If you want to learn how to snowboard in Mammoth please ask for his group lesson or a private lesson with Liam. My husband calls him a magician because I went in barley can strap in to turning down the mountain with no help. Liam was an amazing trainer and answered all of my many questions without hesitation. He was one of the most knowledgeable, encouraging, and entertaining trainer I have ever encountered. This man deserves a raise!! I will be returning every year because Mammoth mountain was truly breath taking and enjoyable. Thank you Mammoth!!!!
I have been coming to Mammoth Mountain for about 20 years. Was a founding member in the MVH pass club. I really enjoy this resort. I bring my family and friends here. First off, there is a great amount of terrain to explore and ski. Plenty of beginner to advanced runs. The main bases with rentals/food/merchandise: Eagle, Canyon Lodge, and Main Lodge. The Mill has food/merchandise. Yolder Restaurant and Bar is located next to Main Lodge. Havent stayed ar any of the hotels. Mostly stick to Motel 6 type hotels. Favorite area to ski is from the Mill. Large parking lot close to the lift. From there you can access Chair 5, 3, 23, gondola. McCoy Station is the middle at the bottom of chaor 3/face-lift. My daughters learned to ski her. Group lessons are good in the beginning. Private lessons help focus on fine tuning your abilities. Ibhave used both. Instructors here are amazing. They are top shelf compared to other ski areas in CA. They have a very long ski season usually. I skied 2nd weekend of May. A bit warm, but able to get in 3.5 hours each day before it really softened up. I highly recommend coming here if you are new to skiing or want to get in some fun days of skiing.
This is my favorite spot in California to ski hands down. Mammoth Mountain is so big that there are tons of different lifts and terrain to explore. I would recommend spending at least 3-5 days to really experience all the different areas of this resort. It certainly caters all levels of activity and offers food and drink galore. No matter where you park, they do have a shuttle that will pick up and drop off if you prefer not to hike to the nearest lift. Chair 14 was amazing this last weekend after they got a little snow dump and even Chair 21 was fun. It was my first time exploring that side and I enjoyed it considering Chair 23 was shut down due to high winds. I still feel there is so much more of this mountain I need to check out even though Ive frequented once another this whole entire season!
Their ticket policies are borderline unethical. I had purchased a two day ticket hoping to ski again Sunday morning before heading back to LA. All lifts were closed for the morning and most remained closed throughout the day. They offered me 25% off a future day ticket as compensation justifying it since a two day ticket means “2 of 4 days” (it’s still valid on Monday and Tuesday). This business policy works against those who can only be their for the weekend and they know it.Further, their prices are some of the most expensive I’ve ever seen and the value just isn’t there. My entire group, who purchased one day tickets, easily came to the conclusion to never ski here again. It’s almost the same price as a vacation to fly to Salt Lake, stay in nicer accommodations, and ski Utah’s mountains which would offer more variety and better snow.I’m disappointed because I grew up always wanting to go to Mammoth in the winter but have since been jaded by their business-only mindset. I’m sure their response will be something about policies. A thrilling dialogue for a top ski destination…
We found a great Airbnb that was right near the mountain and had a nice long weekend skiing. We were surprised to learn that the season lasts from late October through almost June every year! The mountain was fairly crowded, but that’s expected on a bluebird weekend for skiing in California. We will most certainly be back!
This mountain is one of the best places to ski int he area, it is kind of expensive for the all day pass though, if you are a beginner then i recommend June mountain but if you were to take classes i recommend taking classes here because they seem to be more organized. if you are a intermediate or if you are going to try a black diamond i also highly recommend mammoth mountain skiing because of its variety. For beginners it may be a bit crowed during the ski season so you may be overwhelmed, the ski area in mammoth mountain is still the best placebto ski in my opinion. when i say skiing i also mean snowboarding
My God. I’ve skied the west, Colorado and Utah, but when I saw Mammoth... I was in awe. The views from the top of the mountain are hard to describe. When you look out from the top.. you see many different mountains around it. It was almost unbelievable. Some mountains look like ski mountains, some are super jagged without snow, there are mountains that look like 2 smooth mounds, you can see tall stacks of red rock mountains that look like they are from New Mexico. The Mammoth mountain and resort is friendly and fun, but the views from the top beat all I’ve ever seen. A must visit. Also they have a restaurant with German food that is Amazing. The restaurant/ hotel right there at the parking lot is awesome too and they have German food that will knock your socks off. Maybe I’m easily impressed, I live in South Carolina, but we travel a lot, and go to awesome restaurants and Mammoth had awesome slopeside food, amazing skiing and just all around amazing. I’m stuck in my house in SC dreaming of Mammoth... ❤️❄️❤️⛷
Visited on 28th. It was a beautiful journey from roseville to mammoth. Amazing scenic view. It was very cold. We did gondola ride. Start early so that you can ride N number of times. We booked ticket through online(bit pricey in California):Free bus facility. Clean restrooms. Sanitized.
DO NOT BUY YOUR TICKET ONLINE!! We bought online same day. When we arrived, they informed us they were closing early. We had 15 mins to view then had to leave, as we werent skiing. And since we were departing Mammoth, we could not use it the next day.The gondola ride itself was fine.
Theres something special about skiing on this volcano and I dont know what it is. While Ive been to many bigger name ski resorts, with better snow throughout the Western US, I always look forward returning back to Mammoth. However, the drive from the OC area can be a nightmare but I guess thats part of the experience.
Our family have been coming here for years. Love snowboarding & skiing. Staff at the resort are nice and people come from all over. Ski resort is massive. Dont usually have to worry about long lines if go early. Sadly, our favorite restaurant SLOCUMS permanently closed so have to find a new dinner option. Sooo sadddd. The had all kinds of food and it was always delicious---best crusted sourdough bar none. For now, we can cook at home.
One of my favorite ski/snowboard locations on earth. Theyre very strict with Covid safety, but as long as youre smart, follow the rules, and dont try to push any buttons, its still a lot of fun.The gondola is so fun and if youre not too experienced theres a very easy route you can take the upper road runner route down. No need to be afraid up there. Beautiful views.Absolutely worth it.
I had an incredible time here with lots of fresh snow in May of all times! The views are incredible. Lift lines were reasonable and if you find yourself in a congested area there is lots of space to explore other sections of the mountain. I found this to be a more enjoyable mountain when comparing some other larger resorts in terms of getting from area to area. More fun runs connecting across the mountain and less time on cat tracks.
Giant ski resort with every single type of run imaginable. Gets some of the most snow anywhere in the US. Average ticket prices and easy to get to from LA. Very nice layout. The only issue I have is that wind causes the upper gondola and chair 23 to close often, so make sure to do those runs if they are open.
How do you rate a location like Mammoth Mountain - you keep it simple. Last there we skied. The weather changes not only during the day but by elevation - stay informed.Staying informed is one key to enjoying your vacation or experience. The mountain has a lot of terrain and slopes for all skiers. I am an intermediate to advanced beginner that is out there with black diamond users. We plot a path and meet up at designated places. The town has good public transportation that is free and easy to use. There are many options for activities - go explore.
Amazing ski resort and town. The locals are very nice and welcoming. The staff at the resort is very knowledgeable and helpful. Drive up here isnt easy, but so worth it!Definitely make sure to get plenty of water with you though. The air up here is quite dry, and combined with an attitude change makes it pretty hard on the body.
Mammoth had a lot to live up to. Every boarder I know said it was the best snow in California, so I was delighted to see what the hype was about. They were right, the snow is amazing and the views are incredible. Its a great pace to experience, especially in the winter. But once we got to the lift ticket counter we were greeted with a $195 lift ticket! I couldn’t believe how badly priced it was to go there, not to mention more than half the lifts were closed due to weather. I probably won’t be going back. You can get 3 lessons and a season pass at mountain high for $199.
Mammoth is an incredible mountain with diverse terrain. Everything from parking, lodges and lifts are extremely functional. As far as snow, this is a west coast mountain and it very often get dense/ wet snow. Not a bad thing at all just different than the fluffy snow in Colorado. Highly recommend a trip here for any snow sports.
Amazing Mountain with a huge amount of terrain and great snow for all levels of riders. Mountain accomodations and eateries are plentiful and delicious though expensive. The people who work here are polite and helpful and keep the mountain running at 100%. The town itself it awesome and the region is one of the most beautiful in California. Even though I live in San Diego, I consider Mammoth my home resort and consider myself lucky to live within range of a World Class resort.
Great mountain, great terrain. This season has been exceptional in terms of the amount of snow theyve gotten. The village below is fun even if you dont snowboard or ski. Parking at their lot is $30. For a Saturday, the lines at the lifts werent too bad, but it just depends on the weekend.
Great skiing. Many times skied in shorts and a t-shirt. Sheets else can you do that except California. Long ski seasons. Not the best of snow but sometimes almost to mid summer. Great areas for snow mobiling. Very very expensive. Ski rings for just about everyone skill level. Amazing views. Fast lifts and many many. Busy season can make long lines though. Buy tickets at several locations at the base of the mountain. Go with lots of sunscreen. Make sure to have a map of newbie.
Easy to drive to even when its dumping powder. Mass transit is outstanding. Drive to your hotel/cabin/whatever and 99 percent of the time there is a free shuttle that will take you anywhere in town including to the lifts. Easy streets for crazy weather. Oh and tons of snow and dope runs all over! And super easy runs for beginners as well. Now, go get some.
Mammoth Mountain is just about the perfect place for any skier or boarder! When the whole mountain is open, there is a dazzling variety of slopes and terrain. From beginners paradise, Eagle Lodge, to the experts only upper mountain, there is a slope for every skill level. Similarly, Mammoth has one of the best terrain parks in the nation, infact multiple, perfect for beginners, wild thrill seekers and everyone in between.Mammoth has 4 lodges with quality food and drink options, as well as multiple smaller ski in-ski out locations. With 3 different lodges to start from, free busses and the Village Gondola, accessing Mammoths bountiful slopes is simple and easy. When driving to mammoth, road signage is clear and concise, leaving no chance of getting lost. However, at Mammoth you can experience longer lift lines and limited parking during holidays(pst: ride the bus). In addition, over half the mountain can be closed due to wind or avalanche danger. Luckily, the winds rarely hold, and the fearless ski patrol can often blast away the potential avalanches before the end of the day.Over all, Mammoth Mountain is one of the best ski areas in the nation, and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to literally anyone who has an interest in snow sports, no matter age or skill!
Came from Aspen Colorado as our season is finished a friend and myself went on a roadtrip and stopped for a day of boarding at mammoth, from ticketing, to staff, to food, all 5 star! The staff was still Vibin having a good time, the energy was perfect for end of season slushy runs! THANKS MAMMOTH!
Mammoth is a comfortable beast of a mountain. Fun for the whole family. Not to mention, it’s in the center of the state so it’s accessible by car in about 4-6 hours from most major cities within CA (minus San Diego). The main lodge is really busy, however. Can take a long time to get in and out of. It took us an hour to get out of Majn Lodge as there is only one road for vehicles and accidents tend to happen and cause huge back ups. Pro tip: for much easier access and a little bit less crowds, the Mill and Eagle Lodges are best. Either are great places to make your home base for the day.
Fun! Fun! Fun! I absolutely love it here! The best snowboarding in California, hands down. Huge amount of acreage to ride, ski or sled. Parking was crazy! But the free shuttle made it worth it. Some really cool employees.. but a couple of rude @$$ people. Great for every level of rider, but lessons are expensive.
Mammoth Mountain is a great mountain and their operations people are the best. I am fortunate to get to ski numerous Sierra Ski Resorts, nobody does as a good a job as Mammoth Mountain in clearing roads, clearing parking lots, getting terrain open after big storms and grooming between storms. The village and town dont equal the mountain and the operations people, but overall you cant beat Mammoth Mountain.
Had a blast with the Family at Mammoth over the Summer! Gondala ride is a must, their base camp had a lot of fun activities for the whole Family. We rented a house with 4 families and everyone loves it! They have really fancied up their town center area over the last several years and the natural beauty in the mountains, trees and lakes is breathtaking.
Over-rated. Maybe it was a bad weather day that ruined my first time on Mammoth (extreme wind). Closed lifts left you stranded. Got stuck on too many lame runs that end up as almost cat-tracks by most other standards. The staff was great though, and the ski patrol is top notch, proficient, admirable (5/5). The views (5/5). Disappointed by Mammoth; Brighton in Utah and Snow Summit in So Cal are my favorites.
This message is to warn all emotional support/service dog owners. Please read our complaint to guest services below to prevent this from happening to you when visiting Mammoth Mountain.Mammoth mountain is not so dog friendly as they say it is, just heads up.Good afternoon,I would like to make you aware if an incident that happened this morning in regards to my licensed emotional support animals x2. (Dogs)On 1/11/2022 I purchased 2 Gondola scenic rides for 1/12/2022.I asked if my licensed emotional support animals would be allowed in, I was told to better confirm that I should bring the dogs on the day of the lift and ask.On 1/12/2022 my self, my partner and my service animals checked in at approximately 10:00am. I showed the required documentation for the animals and was instructed that they would be allowed in.We walked towards the lift and landed at McCoys station. Once there I over heard a elderly man on his radio asking if the dogs were noticed and allowed in, he did not stop us at that moment to ask for documentation. We stayed for about 20-30 minutes. While we were next in line to get on the Gondola towards the summit. This elderly man, white, balding with white hair, black vest and a flannel shirt approached us in a very aggressive manner. He was not wearing a face mask.He asked about our dogs. We explained that they were licensed as emotional support and we offered to show the documentation. He stated that he did not want to see them, he also stated that emotional support animals are not recognized in california, when I began explaining to him that we took all the necessary measures and was allowed into the gondola he began getting inappropriately close to me in my face and yelling, stating Im not going to argue with you, just know that it is not recognized in california, but I will make it happen this one time. This staff should not be allowed to speak to people in that manner and he should follow covid guidelines which he was not.I felt very disrespected and threatened by his demeanor. This was our first time visiting mammoth and we took all the measures to travel with our support animals and we were treated in a very rude and disrespectful manner.I will definitely be writing a review online about our rude experience to warn owners of emotional support dogs that regardless of proof of documentation staff members will still turn you away in a very nasty rude and unprofessional manner.I hope that this complaint can be taken into consideration so that it can be prevented in the future. Also having staff members like the old man who disrespected us is bad for your business.
The most premier skiing and snowboarding facilities in CA. Former owner and Olympic gold medalist, Shaun White, frequents their half pipe on the reg. Mammoth usually has some of the freshest snow and best conditions you can find anywhere in the country. Come and get the pow pow.
Great mountain! We were visiting from the Northeast for the first time and the snow was great! We rented skis and the rental department was incredibly friendly and helpful. Theres terrain for every level at Mammoth. We cant wait to come back and have another awesome Mammoth experience. The only reason I didnt give five stars was because of the high winds many of the upper lifts and trails were closed. Its not their fault they cant control the weather. Great place to go!
Really enjoyed the skiing, though very hard icy conditions because of a lack of snow for the last month. Little concerned about maintenance because grooming was among the most subpar of any area weve been including Big Sky, Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, Squaw Valley, Taos, Snowbird, Alta, Steamboat. Also with the warm weather, a little water was flowing in the afternoon in parking areas and walkways with little to nothing done to ameliorate the ice the next morning. Very dangerous. Chair lifts also covered with a heavy Frost in the morning and attendants ignore it while playing with their phones or tablets. Every other area weve been with those conditions, the attendants are all over sweeping or knocking the snow or Frost off. Most attendants were nice and friendly and cheery.
Have been coming up to mammoth for over 20 yrs. Last 10 in a truck camper. We park in the same spots at the Mill with other class A and B rv’s. In a truck camper, we take up half the amount of space than other larger rv’s. We were approached by a parking attendant, telling us that we were taking up too much space and that we couldn’t park in the spot. We walked out to see that we were clearly within the boundary of the space. This attendant did NOT speak with any of the other WHITE rv owners who were clearly out of the boundaries and blocking the driving lane. First time I have ever experienced race related negativity at the resort.
A great way to send the weekend with friends and family! Some of the best runs in the United States. It can get crowded after a good snowfall to plan ahead when booking lodging and transportation logistics. Pro tip: Check out Mammoth Mountain Inn for easy access to the lifts in the morning!
Tried taking the gondola up to canyon lodge and waited about 15 minutes for a staff member to tell us there were mechanical issues with the gondola. Ended up wasting over an hour without ever making it to the canyon lodge. The ticket prices are too expensive to not have a better shuttle service and backup service in place. Disappointed with my experience at Mammoth
Way too expensive unless you have season/ikon pass. Get it! Totally worth the money, especially when 1 day ticket is $180.Conditions were above satisfactory. Softened up by like 10am and sadly, they are in promo mode now... closing tons of sections for publicity shoots & poor or lack of (s-med) park options. Gets way over crowded on forest trail ard 10-2pm... bonkers - they need more parks. Thanks to our passes we started midday after our 5hr drive & next day got a full day in.Overall, always an enjoyable trip.
In the event of inclement weather, as was the case when we were there, Mammoth will issue you a raincheck for a later date in the season. So just beware that purchasing lift tickets in advance, while saving you some money, can be a bit of a gamble if you arent able to use some of the days and you arent planning to return that same ski season.
We had great ski week. The name Mammoth really fits this resort well. It is very expansive. The snow was very deep and just kept coming. I really enjoyed the glades off chair 25 and 22. The only draw back was the summit was only open for one day out of the week. The back of the mountain was never opened. They were closed due to the the high winds. I would definitely like to go back again. The mountain was much less crowded during the week as a lot of people come up from LA on the weekend.
I have been at Snow Valley Nd mountain high before and this was my first time at Mammoth.I can tell you that if you want to build memories with friends, family, kids, wife, girlfriend. This is the ideal place to do it.Snow was fresh and the trails were well take care of. Trails are for sure longer and better than any resort in California. Costco has a good deal if you want to buy a family pack (5 tickets)
Probably one of the best mountains in SoCal. The mountain is always kept in top notch quality from first to last chair, I actually appreciate that theyll post warnings or close off certainly runs if they are unrideable (such as being to icy). And the staff is great to, the ride operators are top notch, have never run into a rude one. So if conditions are down in say Big Bear (Snow Summit/Bear Mountain) or at Mountain High, Id say the drive up to Mammoth is definitely worth it.
Yes, Mammoth is the best mountain in the US to ride/ski, but the acquisition by Alterra, the addition of the ikon Pass, and the explosion of Airbnb, have turned this place into another Aspen. Its overpriced to eat anywhere, overcrowded on the lifts, and unaffordable to stay in town (which Im sure is good for Bishops hotel industry). Sadly, bringing your own food and sleeping in your car is almost the only to enjoy this place for a regular person. Mammoth used to be the embodiment of snowsports being for everyone and not just the wealthy. Sadly in the last 5 years, thats all gone away.
Most consistent snow in California and when it dumps it dumps. Friendly staff is the the icing on the cake... Been skiing mammoth since I was a little kid.... But Alterra is a bunch of crooks. Because of their control over the mountain and thus the community very few of the lefties can afford to live in town. Many are homeless and have to live in their cars. Also the LA crowd has ruined the mountain. A selfish group of people with little or no respect for the rules of the mountain. The mountain would have 5 stars if it were just for the snow but Los Angeles people and Alterra are the devil. LA GO HOME!!! You and the Yayy area are ruining California!!!!
My go to place for snow fun. We try to come up during the week because the weekends are out of control. Crowds are massive and parking sucks. Especially during holiday weekends. But, if you are willing to brave the holiday rush, it can be worth it. Probably the best snow in California. Hopefully the new operators dont Jack the ticket prices up any higher than they already are.
Love Mammoth Mountain! Could use more intermediate park features (no way Im hitting the huge jumps, but the small ones are so small...) But other than that, great diversity of runs for our mixed-level group. Lots of long run options if thats what youre looking for. Some of my friends wont go to SoCals Bear mountain anymore now that theyve tasted Mammoth. :-P Pretty good shuttle system and you can get anywhere on the mountain via lifts and runs.
Best mountain in all of CA. Huge Mountain, would definitely be difficult to do it all in one day. A little bit of something for everyone, bowls, parks, some of the largest features Ive seen at a mountain, family runs, and always a friendly staff and atmosphere in the town. Its a more difficult mountain to get to, but my favorite in CA
They are telling staff they must work even if they live with a COVID positive roommate-- so long as they themselves are asymptomatic. Clearly, money means more to this place than their workers lives. Not to mention that asymptomatic people can spread the virus, so they dont really care about guest health either.
Such an amazing mountain. China Bowl is one of my favorite runs. They have so many different runs so the lines do move fairly fast. It does get crowded though. They do close the top of the mountain if t gets too treacherous but the views from up there are incredible.
I forgot to mention I have a voucher that my friend brought me and rightbefore I start picking board,I realized I can do that,so I ask them to do with voucher and refund me,but answer I got was no. They don’t do any refund here. Also You won’t get your money back when you trying to reduce the time of stays. So beware of every purchase you made here.
Paraphrasing, “ When weighing the risks of making money vs not making money, we’ve decided to make money. Closing isnt an option. So someone with Covid infecting other staff and customers doesnt matter to us, just so long as you dont appear to be sick. So we can have deniability. Thank you for your understanding.”
Shredding gnar on the 4th of July. What?!! I lived here back in 2008 and Mammoth Ski resort and the city and surrounding areas are beautiful and endless activities year round! The ski resort offers every type of riding! Get there powder days, which has been every other day the last few winters!! Shready to go back!
We had great experience here as a family! Staff were friendly and professional! Doing a great job with covid safety. Plus excellent terrain, lifts and snow. Only recommendation is could do a better job regulating skiers/boarders going dangerously fast in beginner and intermediate areas.
Probably my favorite ski resort that Ive been to. Located on the eastern side of the Sierras. Big enough to ski a new run or chairlift all day long. Terrain for all types of skiers. Great snow following storms. Friendly staff working the lifts. Just an all around awesome place to go skiing during the winter and spring months.
Great place. Staying strong, staying open. Mask required in labeled zones. Very nice people and staff . Parking is a drag so plan accordingly. Bus system is helpful. no indoor dining but food available. New snow 12/14/20 much needed. Hopefully opening up eagle lodge 12/18- snow making in progress. Kid friendly for all levels. Private lessons only right now.20/21 season thus far. No kids ski teams or schools under 7y/o. A drag but we get it. Stay open!
Amazing. Incredible. Easy to start the 2021 year. Theres so many options, from beginner to expert. People are having picnics while taking breaks, great idea when entire family is traveling. Very organized, clean and friendly. Even if you dont want to ski or snowboard, youll still have fun.
Amazing views and an awesome experience! I didn’t get it see it in the winter with the snow but went up in the summer and still loved it. The gondola ride was amazing and really fun. Once you get to the top you have a wonderful view of the forest and if you take a little walk you can see all of the mammoth lakes!

2022-01-30Good mountain with lots of different trails for various levels of experience. Many trails are groomed nightly so it is always nice to hit the slopes on softer snow daily. The downside is that on the weekends its gets really busy and the lines are long, so save your self some time and go on the weekdays if you can. The lift ticket prices are astronomical so buy in advance if you can, the other issue is their lift ticket scanners at the lift dont work half the time so thats the only reasons for the 4 stars.

2022-03-17This is by far the best mountain Ive been to in the California area. They were well organized with their lifts and lodges. The snow and skiing was tremendous. There are many, many lifts and different runs to go down with lots of different skill levels. All of it was so much for my group and I. Even though it is expensive, the experience is worth it if you ski a lot. It is beautiful at the top as well with views so far as what we are pretty sure was Yosemite.

2022-03-15So far my all time favorite resort with so many different options for skiing - will be coming again and again! The place has perfectly groomed trails, with a variety of options (from skiing in the woods to vertical drops). The lift locations make sense and its easy to get from a lodge to lodge even though theyre in various parts of the mountain.

2022-02-25Been coming here since I was a little kid so this place brings back a lot of nostalgia for me. Not only the resort itself but also the drive up with my family from LA county. These last few years it’s just been with the usual suspects and also my new lady. With the ikon season pass, you come out here a couple days and your really get your moneys worth since lift tickets here are crazy expensive now. As with any resort, my complaint is that sometimes the ski lifts have long lines but this is a massive mountain so as you make your way to the top lifts, the lines are generally smaller. Keep in mind that since this is a huge resort, it’s very easy to get lost so I suggest downloading an offline map on your phone. Also, be aware that if there are heavy winds, they will shut off the gondola that takes you all the way to where the Dave’s run signage is. This doesn’t happen very often but it’s not uncommon. This is a good place to bring family as there are all sorts of runs for any skill level. In addition, I’d recommend getting a ski in ski out condo so you don’t have to worry about finding parking.

2022-01-03Awesome ski resort. Snow is typically deeper and better than any resorts in the area. Lifts run smoothly, they take safety very seriously. A great mix of smoothly groomed runs for beginners and intermediates, and some adventurous runs for the experts and thrill seekers. Staff is friendly and fun. Amenities are great too.

2022-01-15First class ski resort. Best California has to offer, hands down. Recommend going midweek as the weekends are very crowded.

2022-03-15This place is so cool! If you enjoy to ski with a beautiful sin and weather, this is your place. Also, they have an amazing apres ski, the dj is a bomb! If you want to attend that, I would recommend Friday because sunday is completely packed!

2022-04-20Came here last weekend and we got a winter storm with 20-25 inches of fresh powder! The resorts offers various of trails: trees, moguls, wide piste, etc.The lift to the upper part of the mountain often close when there are strong winds. Also, the easiest way down to the base area is a blue black if you’re not taking a gondola down.

2022-04-03Love it, super great area to ski, green, blue, black blue, diamond, double diamond, all, plus plenty of lifts, gondolas, etc. Plenty of eateries, great snow, some not to great, depending on old/new snow.

2022-02-01If you have a top third, middle third, bottom third ranking, not everything can be in the top or middle. Mammoth is bottom third of major resorts for sure. I feel a junior version of Big Sky is a good way to describe. Larger acreage that wraps about 2/3 of the way around a mountain. As of 2022, the lift stock is very outdated and well behind comparable resorts. Only 2 new chairlifts in the last 18 years. None in the last 10. Only one 6-seat chair. They are in need of replacing old high-speed quads with 6s, 8s and chondolas to reduce lift lines. Back to junior big sky, they have a gondola to the top as well but lack the extreme terrain. They have some but its less extreme than other places. There also seemed to be far few expert skiers and more intermediate and beginners as the double black runs were almost empty despite huge crowds. As is the case for the Sierra Nevada resorts, its feast or famine in terms of snow. You can get 10ft or you can have zero inches recorded in January. Finally, this resort has a high percentage of snowboarders to the point that it apparently caused problems serious enough that the lift operators had to limit it to two snowboarders per chair due to frequent lift stoppages and injuries. With all those weaknesses, Mammoth does have one clear strength, prevalence of sun decks and weekend DJs. If you want to go to a place to ski a little, party a lot, this might be the place for you. Interestingly we did not meet a single other person from outside CA. In fact, we only meet 2 not from SoCal and we did not meet a single local on the mountain. All around a substantially different resort and clientele then is typical in UT, CO and other major destination resorts.
