This experience is the best customer service experience I have ever had. They were so kind and helpful. I got my rabbit waffles there and could not have been more helpful. The catstaff went above and beyond to my questions, my concerns. I could tell they treat their animals with lots of love! They made me feel welcome and I deeply enjoyed my stay here. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to add a member to the family.
I used to work here. The shelter is now a husk of its great former self. Just walking in I can tell the current admin doesn’t care about animals and finding them homes. Zero effort. Too many empty kennels. No staff. When I was here the admin was passionate about helping pets find new homes. We always had a ton of dogs and cats and would take them in from over loaded high kill shelter’s. We had events frequently on weekends and the place was always packed with potential adopters, volunteers, and employees. The staff was awesome. Now they are all gone and the place is a ghost town. It’s really sad because it’s a ton of wasted space and a really nice park like atmosphere. Whoever the current head admin is here should resign and go be a bum somewhere else that doesn’t hurt the animals of Southern California.
I knew the minute I saw six year-old Butterscotch’s button nose greet me that she was meant to be my special baby. The superb staff and facility provided a thorough briefing of her needs to ensure a seemless transition. What a blessing she has been. She sleeps under the covers, and during daylight sleeps on my lap. She never leaves my side. I will be forever grateful to the Irvine Center for their state-of-the-art facility, expert staff, and loving care to provide forever companions such as Butterscotch to people like me.
Not many pets (Dogs) to visit. Only 20 Total and mostly large, a few Medium. We wanted a small adult Doggie. Only 1 small dog and was it wasnt available to touch or Pet. We could only see her in her cage with a note saying the dog was not available due to medical issues and was scheduled for a Dr. Appt the next day. Sad Day for us.
One of the nicest Shelters you will ever visit. Plenty of grassy-space to play with your potential dog or pup. Did I see a chicken or two roamin around? Clean, Odor-Free rooms to get acquainted with cats or kittens. The cat-cages are Massive compared to other Shelters. Theres a great set of rabbit-hutches too. You can tell all of these animals are loved and cared for. And you can buy some Critter Supplies at the Office. The whole place is full of good vibes, lots of volunteers and staff to help you. When youre there its not sad...its hopeful!
We came to the Irvine shelter after we had lost one of our little guys. They were very kind, efficient and very well equipped all things considered. They have nice facilities and a great staff thats determined to find the right match for you. One thing I appreciated was the survey they ask you to fill out and they have a good understanding of each of their residents nature and needs. We adopted a shy little guy who isnt very good with people but really seemed to like us. Were giving him lots of love and patience but he really is a special addition to our family. Thank you to the staff and I hope they continue doing great work!
Very clean and well organized place. There were not a lot of dogs which was great to see but the ones there were very adorable. There were a lot of cats and rabbits and had a lot space. The place is beautiful and has different areas for you to get to know your dog a little better. Definitely recommend if your looking to adopt.
The best place to adopt a rescue pet. They have good sized areas for dogs and cats, plus dedicated visit rooms for cats and outside areas for dogs. They also have rabbits available for adoption. In COVID-19 times, appointments and masks are required. Appointments allow 15 minutes of alone time with potential pets and a max of 2 animals per visit.
We recently adopted Gator an 8 month old french/american bulldog from here and it was one of the best decisions i have ever made the staff is so friendly and helpful and you can tell they really care about their animals. Thank you guys so much we are trying to send pics but we don’t know where to send them!
This is an amazing shelter. They take great care of the pets until they get their forever homes. The staff is warm and friendly. My family adopted 2 kittens that were fostered by their employer, Paige, and theyre are just the most perfect additions to our family. I recommend them every time!
I was looking for a rabbit and the people were very knowledgeable and kind. The rabbits were very well taken care of and very calm and happy. They were kept away from the dog area and near the cats instead, so they werent terrified and half deaf. Also, they had indoor and outdoor cages for the rabbits and also the cats! I didnt look at the dogs. The cats and bunnies all have plenty of space, comfort, and information to read about them. Highly recommend this wonderful shelter!
Went to meet a sweet pup that we had seen on petfinder that we thought might be a good addition to our family. Though the pup wasnt quite what we were actually looking for, the facility itself proved to be amazing. The kennels (for cats, dogs and rabbits mind you) were clean and well kept without much odor or mess. The animals were calm and appeared well cared for. The facility was very well staffed with people who had knowledgeable answers and quick smiles. There were many grassy areas, some safely fenced, with benches where you could take a perspective pet for a visit outside his or her kennel and really interact. When our puppy wasnt the match wed hoped, the staff went about collecting all pertinent information to see if there were perhaps any possible matches that did exist within the kennel at that time. The actual adoption paperwork was pertinent yet short, simple and to the point. Though we left without a dog, we left with smiles on our faces saying wow what great people, what a great place!
The staff is great. Warning if you are an animal lover this place can tug at your heart strings because you want to save everyone that is there. There are plenty of furry folks looking for forever homes. If you take your kids be prepared to go home with another passenger.
I would rate this place 0 stars if I could! I adopted a beautiful and fantastic Husky here. The dog was wonderful! Very well behaved around kids, adults and other dogs. This was the sweetest dog in the world. It broke my heart but I had to take him back eventually because of some life changes. I had been checking the website for 3 weeks and he still wasnt up. Finally I called and found out they KILLED HIM. Less than 3 weeks after I turned him in. Great shelter to adopt from. BUT DO NOT SURRENDER YOUR ANIMALS HERE IF YOU WANT THEM TO FIND A NEW HOME!
My family and I visit the Irvine Animal Care Center often as we journey to find our furry family member. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They truly care for their animals and are very helpful and diligent in finding the right home for each animal. The facility is always clean and well maintained.
I adopted my first dog here, and she was a wonderful addition to our family. She came potty-trained, and maybe a little scared. She quickly adjusted to life in our family, and is very nice to kids, as well as protective. She loves me with all of her heart and I do too. I cant simply imagine what her previous life was like, but Im willing to make the rest of her life as beautiful as I can. Also, staff were friendly and helped us out a lot. They have really big hearts and I hope all of the poor animals here find loving forever homes.
They have a great staff of handlers and vets who take great care of their animals.Char was enthusiastic and knowledgeable when she showed us Trudy, a 2 yr old St. Bernard, and Lyle, a 2 yr old German Shepherd mix. We adored them both and would have adopted them on the spot.Unfortunately, they have a very strict policy of meeting all the adults / pets in the house hold. My house mates work and go to school so their schedules didnt work with the centers business hours. Even when I offered to bring their dog for the introduction, Melody told me that all the adults had to find time without exception. In the end, I had to adopt from a different shelter.
This place is awesome. They do a great job rescuing and taking care of animals. We Foster animals through them and it has been a great experience. They take care of all the expenses and we just keep the animals at home until they are ready to be adopted. Please help support them.
This animal care center is wonderful. You can tell the animals are really cared for. Theres a large yard both front and back for the dogs to be walked in. The kitty cages are large and theres a community room with cat trees and toys. There are large rooms so you can get to know your kitty before you adopt one. Supplies such as cat trees, dog and cat toys, and beds can be purchased in the main office and the money goes back into the center. Please consider making those purchases at this center... they do a really great job.
Ive gotten a couple of dogs from here. The staff is awesome. We always donate extra dog food etc. I love that they are a no kill shelter. If youre looking for a new little family member, check these guys out before you go to a pet store. Chances are they will have what or who youre looking for.
I stopped by to drop off some donations and what an amazing facility - personable and gracious staff, just people with good hearts! Easy to make donations, including blankets, towels, and sheets, and you can also make monetary donations to sponsor one of the very well maintained holding areas for each pet waiting to find a home. They had the cutest and sweetest dogs, cats, and rabbits available to adopt, I wish I could have taken them all home. I will be coming here to find my next rescue, and most definitely will support their organization in the future.
Great staff with well maintained facilities. Kennels were clean and animals there (dogs, cats and rabbits) looked to be in good conditions. I saw how the staff there walked and spent time with each and every dog there. Hope all the animals there could find right families to spend theirblife with.
The only thing I dont like about the shelter is that you can put a dog on hold till whatever day. The reason I say this is because I was ready to adopt a dog and a guy put him on hold even though I had everything I needed to adopt him, he could have gone home to a family the same day rather than stay inside the shelter for someone else for another 2 days. But aside from that the dogs seem happy and get enough play time during visitation for someone.
This was my first visit to the Irvine Animal Care Center! The facility is very well maintained and the animals appeared well-cared-for and nourished. Im definitely going back either to adopt or foster a kitten! Also, although you cant take them out of their cages, just fill out a survey and then you can play with them in a specially designated area :-)
I had a horrible person agree to watch my kitten while i was going to be gone overnight along with everything i own as ive just left a bad living situation with my 5 year old and our pet Kola we got 7 months ago just a week after it was born and abandoned by its stray mama cat.Long story short.. that was over a week ago and the only thing of mine i was able to locate was my kitten (i was convinced she may have been hurt or even worse- killed by this man). Having no car, being in between homes with my daughter with no clothes or any ID or even kitten toys tl prove shes mine or i am who i say i am) it took me 4 days just to get to this shelter (which was closed the tuesday i tried to make it and did so to find it closed) All that was going on and i come to identify my baby girl kitten and then i am told of the fees. I immediately break into tears. I am told theyll drop every single fee except the $55 boarding fee- a hefty and significant cut in cost... unfortunately i was at the end of my resources. The place was only open another hour. I let them know why i was in hysterics (considering the next day shed be placed for adoption and that would cost more than i could afford).Given my luck with everything else these past 4 days prior i was really gonna hit a mental breakdown if i walked out to the car my child was waiting in for our baby to come back in without her. They tried to seem sympathetic but i couldnt say i felt it was real. It was sympathy but not the level of empathy i felt was needed for them to help me out. 20 mins from start of this to the moment a staff member walked out and said theyd lost the carrier my kitten arrived in but theyll give us one and said how sorry they were as if i had right to raise Hell over the carrier - it was so odd to me. But then came the part i didnt see coming-- their supervisor approved a special circumstance release of my pet to me due to her ending up there under unusual pretenses (the guy i trusted with my property and kitten physically brought her to them name and all and dropped her off as a stray)!!!! They released my kitten to me and i have no idea how to thank the staff here for allowing me the time to speak and for listening to me not shining me on for the next person in there that had money to give them. My babygirl got her kitten back and i have found us all a home since this happened on thursday. They were kind they were patient. They are wonderful and professional. I highly recommend this place. For adoptions for rescues for safe pet drops.Thank you again to the staff here- because of you my home is a happy and full home. And no member has been left behind after the tragedy that led me to your business.
Very friendly/knowledgeable staff. Went over the adoption procedure thoroughly and carefully to make sure we got an animal that was suitable for our work/home life. All pets are up to date with vaccinations/sterilization, very clean, happy environment for the animals!
Only had 8 dogs n girl we saw, by 4 pm was all outa hospitality. Close at 5 pm. Little help save grunting couple words in passing. N I had cute little 8 yr old boy with/damn. Only other staff we found avoided eye contact, guess we might ask questions? Not so great experience.Giving them 4* only because weve had good times in past here/successfully adopted 3 cats here over last 14 years.
If I were you I would never go to this place the employees are rude and insensitive. We had to relinquish our dog and instead of just taking the dog they told my son she was just going to be put down. It was hard enough to just relinquish her let alone be told they were just going to put her down.
Really nice people, great facility, good adoption fees. However I adopted a cat there that had advanced kidney disease and it was not disclosed to me at the time. I was told by the center that my pet only had crystals in the urine and just needed a special food. 5 months later, after my cat became gravely ill, I took him to my vet that looked over the blood test results the care centers had given me. My vet told me it showed in the records how sick my cat already was. My vet was shocked I hadnt been informed. After weeks of fluids, syringe feeding and over $1500 in vet bills I had to put him to sleep at the age of 14. My vet told me that my cat could have lived a much longer life had his condition been treated correctly to begin with. It was horribly sad. I wouldnt adopt a senior pet from them again.
They make you fill out an application before you see the dog, which is fine, however they then use that application to direct you to a dog THEY think is best for you. We saw a dog we liked, we filled out an application, and then they did about everything they could to discourage us from spending time with that dog, even directing us to other dogs. We are a loving family and we should be able to chose the dog we think fits in our family.
You really need to start holding animals so people driving from 2 hours away dont waste a trip. We told you we were driving there to pick up an animal and please call us if its no longer available (thats the only option since youre unable to hold it) and we arrived to see someone completing the paperwork, which probably took at least 15-20 minutes. Why didnt you call? Why didnt you tell us there was other interest yesterday when we called? the customer who ended up getting the animal said he had been talking to you about it since yesterday. bizarre way to operate.
The Volunteers and Staff need lessons in customer service and public service. They are less than honest when describing the dog breeds classing many as Labs when they are clearly Pits. I went with a friend of mine who wanted to adopt a dog for mobility service work and was assured the dog was small dog friendly. Even taking days to integrate with her service Chihuahua the dog adopted from the IACC was very aggressive towards it and clear had a high prey drive. When she returned the dog was treated in such a demeaning manner by the 20-something staff in the office to the point my friend left in tears,
I wish I could give zero stars...I am shocked at the experience I just had today at this shelter. So many sweet senior kitties that need homes and the individuals who work here are so rude, judgmental and condescending that the animals are unable to find homes. I understand finding the best adoptee is crucial but these older cats would probably prefer living in a loving home rather than a shelter cage. The small blonde woman with the baseball cap who worked in the front office was one of the nastiest individuals I have spoken to in Orange County and I cannot believe she works to care for animals or anything at all. Sad.
Rude, uneducated manager that thinks she knows everything but couldnt answer any questions about the breed of dog I was wanting to adopt. Then we got denied adopting the dog because I have a 12 year old boy that fell in love with the 2 year old dog. They wouldnt even let us interact with the dog to see how he behaved. All because she was uneducated about that type of breed(cause the previous owner brought him back due to them already having a large dog and they would play rough sometimes, but has never bitten). Just a know it all lady that thinks she knows everything yet didnt even understand the breed. Yet I showed them pictures of my dogs, same breed that Ive raised and trained many times.
My daughter was getting a kitten (she has her own home) and I rode along; petless, the ladies asked me if I wanted an animal again.( Got others there who are now in pet heaven)....Bring me your best used cat and my new cat came in---and left with me. He was 4 and now 6 and I absolutely love him. Im tired of playing feather and this guy has my activity level and content to snooze and keep me company. Dont rule out the previously owned animals--they seem grateful and loving and no trouble because they have already learned the basics.Over 2 years, Im still grateful for that little 20lb. big boy cat!
I called the animal shelter because we had a mama duck and her ducklings in the community pool. I was looking for some direction as to getting them out since it is not their natural habitat and was concerned the ducklings were unable to get out of the pool. The female I spoke to said to leave them alone and they would be fine and the mother duck would take care of them. Well they werent fine, half of the ducklings drowned because they couldnt get out and whoever I spoke to was uneducated. My call should have been further directed to animal control. I am completely disappointed in the City of Irvine and their lack of knowledgeable individuals working at these facilities. I pay enough money in taxes as a homeowner to support these services. Completely preventable as animal control could have come out and relocated the duck and her ducklings.
Really disturbed how difficult they make it to adopt a pet, make sure if you want a pet you answer every question as if youre an obsessed pet person. Never in my life did I think it was possible to fail an animal test, Ive owned 10 pets in my life never had an issue. My children were with me and they were so rude. My kids left crying and couldnt understand.
My little girl kept asking for a unicorn, and we came here with high hopes. However she was turned back home disappointed due to this shelters appalling lack of unicorns. Luckily, the nice lady behind the counter, Carmela, showed us a cat with a cone attached to its head, and she couldnt even tell the difference! The cat unfortunately died a week later, due to a chronic neck pain, but Carmela has been kind enough to supply us with a new cat every week. Thank you, Carmela!

2022-06-20Experienced pet owners and we were treated like we had no idea what a pet even was. We were asked to make selections of pets we would like to meet and then refused to be allowed to even make our own decisions or meet with them. It feels great when love is decided for you and choice is perceivably removed.

2022-07-20My family adopted a kitten from here. When we came home we noticed how much of a terrible shape he was in. He was sneezing, had diarrhea, fleas, tapeworms, so we took him to the vet. He was incredibly sick, we got him dewormed and he has medication to help with the fleas. The poor thing was obviously not treated well in the shelter for all of this to fester so much, and was probably not treated kindly as now he has separation anxiety. It has only been a few days he’s with us, and he can’t stand being alone. Honestly, this is quite sad. I feel so bad for the poor little guy. We’ll be taking him back to the vet in a week to see how his treatment is doing, but honestly shouldn’t the shelter have been aware of his condition? It’s quite obvious something was wrong. Only makes me think how the other animals are treated. I hope they treat them well, but how should I know?

2019-08-18Great place. We just adopted a kitten. The staff are fantastic. The place is amazing. The animals are well taken care of and their interview process is good. I would highly recommend stopping by. If you can handle the responsibility, having an animal will definitely make you happier. Kudos to the staff here.

2022-06-26Called for help with a skinny, starving, flea covered kitty I had found. My call was immediately met with straight out suspicion(???) that I had found a stray in the city of Irvine because rarely is there a “stray cat” in her words in Irvine??? I was so confused by this statement. Yes, maybe Irvine has a low stray turn in count but that by no way means there are none! She made this whole experience on the phone so unpleasant I found another rescue to help the poor kitty out. Her CONDESCENDING attitude makes it so difficult to try and help animals in need. Please find caring people to answer calls to direct people to obtain proper help for the animals found.

2022-07-04Went to pick up my (indoor outdoor) cat today because someone found him and mistook him for a stray. i was a little pinched on time because of work but was essentially told thats my problem and figure something out. when i got there the staff straight up told me to give him up if i dont have time for him :)

2021-08-03Great facility here in Irvine with kind workers and volunteers. I have adopted here previously and had an amazing new addition to the family. Always adopt first as these guys need forever homes. 🐶🙏🏼

2018-05-02Staff is incredibly nice, is a non-kill shelter, you should adopt an animal hear. They have many toys you can buy after adopting an animal. They have a park and will let you play with the dogs, walk the dogs, and pet them. For cats they have a sitting area where you can pet and play with the cats. Got 2 cats and a dog here. Fantastic place!!!

2022-03-05This facility makes you fill out adoption paperwork before you can even meet the cat in person or have any interaction. This alone made me leave to go elsewhere.. I need to be able to interact with the animal to see if its a fit before I jump the gun and fill out paperwork. Stupid process.

2021-12-28I have adopted many dogs over the past 30 years here. Always helpful, and reasonable adoption fees. So glad they have helped our community all these years. Thanks for Happy, Tiger, Cindy, Chasey and now LUCY.

2022-06-25They had my baby Peaches that ive been searching for. So Im truly blessed and grateful for them.
