When were having a craving for simple country dining my family and I like to go to Hodels. It has an assorted variety of food choices. From fresh fruits to delicious entries to your liking. It serves different foods for different times of the day breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. The prices are good and the staff is sweet.
This is an update. Our last visit was on Wednesday. Besides the salad bar, there wasnt much appetizing to eat. My mom only had salad and a dry dessert. The fried chicken wasnt fresh. Two tables near us asked our very nice server when new food was coming out. One of the tables was comped for one meal after showing the nice (and patient) server what dishes were missing. Clearly regulars. I cant think of any reason to go back.
Service is excellent even tho its too much to our server but others are willing to help out. Just a little advise: the person that serves the grill part, please place someone that understands big esters lol I mean come on skinny boy asking me how much I want, that whole pieace please! 🤣 🤣🤣
This has a cozy, rustic feel. The food is DELICIOUS!! Pot roast is moist and seasoned perfectly; the chicken pot pie makes you want seconds; the mac and cheese tastes homemade (nothing like the boxed kind 😁); and the dessert options are plentiful and scrumptious. (Theres chocolate and vanilla ice cream, you just have to ask for it.) Customer service is friendly and pleasant. This place is definitely a go-to for my family when we visit Bakersfield!
First time eating at hodels for our Christmas Party. I dont eat meat, but my husband does. He loves the steak and all of the food that was served. I love the salads and veges. Place was clean, specially the bathroom. staff were prompt. Awesome experience. Well come back for the buffet.😊😉
I was there for Thanksgiving Dinner and what a wonderful experience that was. Before I left home I told myself I want sweet potatoes, dressing and turkey. And of course desert always. The sweet potatoes were just like I like them the dressing was the best I have ever had, and I mean better than my own and turkey, and tri tip. They were very well staffed, efficient and very nice. The flavor was perfect and the food was cooked to perfection. I will be there again next year for sure. Job Well Done !!!! They Get A Gold Star.
Unfortunately my visit was disappointing...they had a very small selection of food and practically no desserts. I really appreciated that they had gloves for customers to utilize while serving themselves, and the customer service was great throughout our time dining, but with the selection of food and the overall taste of the food I probably wouldnt make this dining experience a habit
This is a 1994 buffet that has been brought forward in time to Hodels. This is like stepping into Ceasars in 1992 and having the best breakfast, lunch, or dinner of your life. I have never had a less than write home about experience. The staff and community is too strong to allow anything less than satisfaction. Oh that also means a fair not corrected for inflation price tag :-) truly the best of the best.....
This place is not soo good as it was before. Food quality is not the same, found a hair in my food alot of fruit flies flying around the salad bar. Its good if you can overlook at those health hazard things I just mentioned but not for me. Customer service is always good the only thing I would suggest improvement is the cashier, rude and did not even say have a good day ect. Would not recommend this place to be honest. To the cleanest place ether.
5 star country dining buffet style, best meatloaf in town besides at home. Dinner service is always wonderful , they always have multiple types of gravy for their mashed potatoes and a well selection of meats from tri tip to deep bit beef/pork and chicken 2-3 styles, they never forget an Italian dish or 2 aswell, deserts are bomb they have home made chocolate mousse my daughter likes, first time in since the pandemic and they value those who regard the right to fresh air they have signs that ask for masks but arent tyrants about enforcing it either.
Its very quiet inside, you are able to just enjoy dinner without hearing Karen talk about someones over grown lawn. They have great food, their staff is friendly. They have a little shop inside that holds cute antiques you can buy. They have party/conference rooms as well.
I dont like most American-food restaurants and especially not breakfast or buffet restaurants because the food is so often bland and uninspired (I can cook unseasoned omelets at home thank you very much 😝) but this breakfast buffet was a welcome surprise, it was excellent! A wide variety of delicious foods for every taste. The quality was high for a very reasonable price. I would absolutely come back.
Great food, good atmosphere. So glad to be able to partake of their awesome food again.Good use of space and safety measures.FYI, masks and gloves (provided) are required at the food stations. And they have stands and ropes to move traffic along through the buffet. Makes it a little inconvenient if there is a specific item that you want to go back for, so just be mindful that trips through may take a little more time. You cant just go straight to a particular dish. But at least they are able to be open and havent sacrificed on the quality of their food!Cant wait to go back again!
Im going to give a 5 star because I love Hodels Sunday brunch and their prices. They have an omelette station, chocolate fountain and a delicous chile relleno casserole. You have to try the heart waffles with strawberries and whip cream. Orange juice is included aswell.
Nice attractive interior decor with warm atmosphere a pleasant eye appeal for diners. Good hearty dishes and constant flow of customers. Lots of casserole style dishes. I call it farm style. Seasoning of foods a bit strong for me. Large pieces of fried chicken. I stuck with a smaller portion by choosing wings. Desserts selection of cookies, cup cakes, ice cream is offered via ordering through your waitress $1.00. It is not visible. Staff is very pleasant and helpful. Box of food handling gloves at the start of the food buffet line. I liked having a buffet line. Fruits selection had melons, cantekopes, pineapple.
The large rooms are great for groups, plenty of privacy and space, And the staff was very attentive and helpful. Beyond that, I am baffled at the ratings for this place. I tried a little bit of a whole lot of stuff, and every single bit of it was awful. Everything tasted like it was frozen, then microwaved poorly. No texture or flavor of any kind. Brussel sprouts? Soft and bad. Orange chicken? Soft and bad. Biscuits? You guessed it, soft and bad! Salad? Also, Soft and bad. Everything tastes like it was left to defrost in a slightly washed out paint bucket.Im a construction worker, so im pretty used to eating quick, cheap, garbage food, with dirty hands, and in a rush, and this place may literally be the worst food Ive ever had. So if youve got $15 and just want to be around some friendly staff and you killed all your tastebuds in some tragic accident, totally go support this place. If youre a normal human, go somewhere else.
Hodel’s is the only place to schedule a large event. I just had 100 people at my 90th birthday party. I scheduled the event myself and had complete confidence in Kasey who took all my information. She took down what I needed for setup and audio visual requirements and it was there. No hitches. The food was excellent and this was also the opinion of others attending. The gentleman that met me with my list when we walked in to setup, was thorough. He showed me each item I had requested. If I make it to 100, I will definitely schedule my party there.
It would have been 5 stars had they not raised their prices and now nickel and dime you for everything. We were expecting maybe a 30 dollar tag for the two of us but it was just over 40....But on the plus side, the food is delicious as always, and they have taken wonderful precautions for covid!!! I felt comfortable eating at a buffet without worrying. Also they have started to manage little children.
There isnt much to choose from, especially if youre someone that doesnt eat a lot of meat. I went for breakfast with my family not too long ago for breakfast and I was pretty sad. My options were omelet, scrambled egg, eggg with some chili stuff, biscuits, waffle, salad or fruit. Kinda not worth it when I can make all that at home.
Went here for a Lil get together for mens Bible study group for breakfast buffetFood was great no complaints had omelets, biscuits and gravy, all sorts of fruits waffles, muffins ect.Service was amazing they kept the table cleared coffee, water, tea topped off asking if we are ok checking up on usSo if your driving by looking for a place to it I would recommend trying Hodels Country Dining
I’ve came here multiple times. There’s not very much food to choose from for it being a buffet and the drink selection is not great at all. The workers aren’t very welcoming or friendly. The booths need new padding on the seats they’re awful and broken not sure why no one talks about that... their sausage, sliced bread and waffles are great.
I would have given a 0 star. Will never go back. Not the same place. I waiting longer in line then I did to eat. The eggs were slimmy and the potatoes were dry. They have no pancakes. The serves in very slow on drinks. My ice tea was dirty water . Not worth the $16.00 a plate. A party of 4 and only 3 ate. We left plates full of food on the table.
We drove from Bodfish to Bakersfield to go celebrate a Birthday at your restaurant, we were so glad that you opened. I was extremely disappointed, the salad bar was ok but no seafood salad. Most of the hot food was not that good. Thechicken fried steak was dried out,the pork chops overcooked. None of the food had any labels so you didnt know what you are eating. Overall there was 5 adults and the overall consensus was very mediocre. Nothing to make me want to come back. The girl took $25 off the bill but I still felt like I paid too much for what I got. Probably wont come back.
Homemade recipes of grandma Hodels comfort food! Amazing buffet choices of fresh salads, plus soups, meats, sides, muffins, and desserts. My favs are German sausage, broccoli/raisin salad, green beans, fried chicken, mashed potatoes(3 kinds of gravy) and those amazing cinnamon rolls! Delish! Come hungry 😋
The food is OK as is the service. If you come here and it is not busy expect to eat food that has been sitting around for awhile. Like any buffet, when it is busy the volume keeps the food circulated and therefore fresh. I think it is a decent place to feed large groups, as there is something for almost anybody. I think the salad station is a pretty sure bet for freshness and healthier eating. It is a clean place and the parking lot is large.
Food was DISGUSTING. salad bar is decent and the cupcakes are okay. Chile Riano was good but everything else was 🤮. And we tried almost everything. No mac n cheese, baked beans, tacos, burgers, nothing. Some random stuff and it was all gross. Would not reccomend to anyone. However, my friend says its her favorite place. But she just had salad and cupcakes. We are headed to red Robin because this is not it. Its Sunday and there seems to be tons of church people here so maybe everyones coming for the salad.
Went on Fathers day. Im not a fan of buffets but this one was at least more upscale than most. A huge place and of course a lot of people. I liked the cooked to order omelet station. The service was good and very attentive. Would like to come for a regular dining experience instead.
Loved it!!!! Went with a group of about 20. The wait wasnt so long. The food was delicious and the chocolate fountain looked so good. Im just sad that I wasnt able to try it out. The employees were awesome keeping everything clean and making sure food was always stocked. Our waiter was so great!!! He was able to keep our table clean and glasses full. Have nothing but a great experience. Cant wait to go again very soon I hope 😁😁😁
Nice area, considering overall location, clean environment with friendly and attentive staff. I was there for a meeting and enjoyed the breakfast buffett. The food was well cooked, hot and prepared just right. Sweets were readily available to go with the FANTASTIC coffee. After breakfast, they laid out fruit for the duration. The experience was good.
Family-friendly. We have a large family and all of us enjoy celebrating Christmas there every year. The private dining room is decorated appropriately and excellent service is provided. The wide variety of available food choices means even the finicky eaters have great choices. We have time to enjoy our meal and open gifts. Very special.
Food is always great. During last visit and mind you it during pandemic. Were told upon entering to wear mask and gloves around food area. There was a couple not following the rules and I witnessed the husband letting off little coughs while serving himself. I let the waitress know and she did nothing. The man went up to food a 2nd time doing the same thing. At that point my family and I paid our bill and left without getting more food.
Really nice place to eat. I only gave four stars because it only had pork for the meats. I dont eat pork. Bathroom was very clean, way to go! Waitresses were wonderful, polite and keep our coffee cups topped off. Loved the omelet station the young lady cooking was quick and on point. We will be back when we come and visit my sister.
We had perfect timing when we went. Not a huge crowd tho the place was full of people. We had maybe a 5 minute wait to be seated. The food was good and plentiful. Desserts were sinful. We had a little trouble catching the waitress for refills on our coffee and water but, other than that, we really enjoyed it and are looking forward to returning. Great for couples or huge groups.
This was a private event. The food was very good. They had 3 buffet lines setup serving from both sides. That made the lines move quickly and they kept the food replenished. My only complaint would be that the Womens Bathroom hadnt been cleaned or replenished. One stall was Out of Order and 2 stalls had No Toilet Paper, that left only 3 stalls to service all of the women that attended the dinner.
We really enjoyed this buffet it was different than most because the service was top notch. We had an actual server which was really nice and she took really good care of us! They didnt have a huge selection of different items however the food they did have was really good quality and well cooked and you could tell they took pride in their food. The dessert bar was beautiful and they had a variety of amazing muffins as well! We loved it and the restaurant itself is beautiful
Best buffet in town! Better than the other chain buffet restaurants in town. Holdels is pretty clean, good food, friendly & helpful staff, and very family oriented. The only complaint I would have is the lack of food choices in their buffet. All around its always a good visit.
The only reason for the two is because the service is excellent. The food is....food. The entire salad bar was wet. Lettuce, carrots, cucumbers etc..Dressings look scary unless it was ranch. The selection is pretty slim. No disrespect to the locals who love this place, but definitely wont be making a second trip.
I have always loved Hodels. I went there last week after not being there for a few months and it really fell short. When going to the salad bar most of the containers where 2/3 or more gone and there was no staff filling them. There was hardly enough salad greens to make one salad with. I tried some of the regular food and that also fell short. I usually love their cinnamon rolls and I ordered myself a tin and I have found them dry with not as much frosting as they usually have on them. I hope they can get their people back into the swing of things.
We stayed across the street and are here twice.Once for the lunch menu, once for the dinner menu. Our waitress was absolutely outstanding. She sees lots of people and remembered us from the day before. She was polite and timely and laughed with us.The food was warm though I am used to Midwestern meats and bbq, so its not as good as home, but it was still very filling and good for western fare. The desert area was immaculate. Various choices and kinds...even a sugar free section.I enjoyed this place quite a bit and if Im ever laid up in this area again, I will most certainly come back.
Their food is pretty good. Fried chicken is the favorite of a lot of people that go there. I tend to go for the baked goods. Their broccoli raisin is very good. They also have a hall you can rent for events. Reasonably priced as well. Serve breakfast and lunch. Is buffet style served food.
It was my first time visiting Hodel’s and I’ve got to say... it was delicious.. their pork in BBQ was definitely my favorite... the staff were so nice especially Kambrea who was attentive to our needs and helped us check out fast. This place is family oriented and has a great variety of country desserts.
Best buffet in townThis place is always clean. The food that is supposed to be Hot is Hot if it is cold then it is cold. Service is excellent and friendly. ( Like Family with out the Drama )This is good Comfort type foods just like grandmas house. So if you have never been there GO! You will not be disappointed.
I have one word for my experience here. Not good! Ok, thats 2 words. Everything has changed. They have of course raised their prices, and along with that you get less choices and a weird vibe. When you walk in, you get to have two empty plates, no more. You are served and watched the whole time you are at the buffet. You dont help yourself, so its not like getting exactly what you want. Very regimented! My family was at the omelette bar. I went to join them, and was immediately commandeered by a heavy set, male employee who asked me if I was going to order an omelette. I told him I didnt know yet, but he asked me again, as if trying to hurry me. I again told him I didnt know yet. He was lucky he lightened up when he did, because my husband and son were about to say something he would not have liked. Out of control man! The omelette was surprising good though, and the bacon was delicious. In reopening, they have totally lost what was charming and different about this place. Never again.
Food was pretty good for a buffet, and plenty of it - nothing was out. Not a huge selection but that probably kept the quality up. Our big group was seated within 10 min and it was a holiday, too. Parking was pretty full, though. Very friendly service. The place was completely clean - before we got there, anyway (messy toddlers).
This place reminds me of my grandmothers home cooked meals. All of the entrees, soups, salads, breads, and desserts are homemade. the interior of hodels is pretty much walking into a good country home. I absolutely love it! This is one of the best American buffets I have ever been to. God bless America!
Hodels was a self serve full buffett. They offer breakfast lunch and dinner. They also have desserts. Food selection was varied. Prices were acceptable. Food was great as was customer service. I really like the fact that different than most buffets if someone in your party is not eating they do not get charged. I would definitely go again. If you get the chance i suggest you try them too.
Staff is very nice, and the ambiance too, especially during the holidays. My only problem is that every time Ive been here to eat, Ive gotten terrible food poisonings. I dont know if it is lack of hygiene in the plates, glasses or utensils, or if it is in the food. Last time Ive been here, some 2 Christmases ago, I had some bacon that gave me food poisoning within 15 minutes after consuming it. I got home and almost had to go to the hospital because of the severe food poisoning symptoms. This has also happened to friends and family of mine for years. Unless I am forced to come eat here because someone invited me for some situation that I cannot avoid, I do not eat here anymore, which is such a pity because I really love this place. BTW, The lady who does the omelets is a pro. Really knows what shes doing. I might try coming again after Corona chills out and just avoid the bacon this time.
My experience here tonight more than lived up to my memories of this classic Bakersfield landmark. As a buffet they do not quite have the same crazy amount of variety of some larger buffets but what they do have is extremely high quality for the price. It has the feel of a family buffet where everyone took pride in their one dish. The smoked tri-tip, deep-pit pork and beef, chile-verde, and ribs were especially good. Great environment, reminded me of family gathering there as a kid. So glad this place is as good or better than I remember and the price hasnt skyrocketed like some of my other local favorites.
Food was great. I started Keto recently and there were plenty of delicious choices that fit within my macros. We sat in the private area through the little store. The server kept our drinks full and was great about taking our plates - she was also very friendly! Looking forward to our next visit.
My experience here is very mixed. The atmosphere and the staff was wonderful but the food was not. I found the potatoes tasted more like instant than natural. The chicken tasted as though it was store bought. And the desserts were hard and again favored as they were store bought. My recommendation is that you should stay far away from this restaurant as possible and thats sad because I have been wanting to come here since I first moved to Bakersfield 13 months ago. The prices are very reasonable but the food is very forgettable. My fried chicken and mashed potatoes are much better.
First off, it was Christmas Eve. Im assuming they close at 8p.m. that night. But they were already putting salads away after we were seated. One lady was nice enough to get me the seafood one and served me some. I told my son to hurry and serve himself. The food was good and we will go there again. I love the peach crisp, couldnt eat it, she got me a to go plate for it.
Today I was was invited to a Holiday event held at this Buffet . I had previously heard mixed reviews regarding the food. Well, I arrived hungry and I departed hungry. The food selection and quality horrible. The majority of the food was tasteless, and was either over cooked or undercooked. I was extremely dissatisfied and will not revisit this establishment under any circumstances nor will I recommend it to others. I will say this, the staff were extremely polite, and attentive and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. And I give them 5 stars.
Excellent buffet! We came with 27 people on a bus (reserved ahead) and they got us right in. Our server (drinks and extra things) was awesome, friendly, helpful, and kind. Food was changed out frequently, and there was a lot of variety. Everyone left full and satisfied.Food lines and seating were kept clean, as were restrooms and entry.Plenty of parking...room for buses and RVs
I have not been here in quite a few years, I really enjoyed it, inside and outside. There was a time when I could not make a garden, and have what is now included in their salad bar section, should it still be there, as I remember it.Some things I know from experience, as to why I must make it on my own, this, for one, means a garden, or how of at least a do of other things.Portability and not too late for it, like emergency battery backup, for when there will be obvious power outages, that, as an example.I am thinking on Turkey, and BE THERE, no need to change anything, dine-in is dine-in.
I remember the days when Hodel’s was the go to place for good home cooked food. Not the case today. I’d have to say it’s just OK at best. The salad bar needs some work. You get a little bit of everything from other containers inside every container and most items are standing in about an inch of water. The staff seems a little demotivated as well. It’ll only take a little focus to get Hodels back to it’s glory days. I hope it happens. I’ll check back in another 5 years.
This restaurant was not open like the web site said it was.tay need to update ther website Hodels back years ago was one of the best places to eat it still is when thay are open. Some thing for every one good food. Nice people. Use to go for Sunday brunch best in the state. Wish I could go back in for Sunday brunch again. If an when thay open again I highly recommend Hodels.
As always food and service was great. 15 minute wait wasnt bad for a Sunday morning. However, the salad bar attendant was very over zealous. I couldnt even make my salad without her hurrying around me and behind me. There was also another employee sweeping around the salad bar that felt as if I needed to move out of his way. On top of that, there was a third employee at the salad bar who jumped in front of me to make a plate for himself. I almost lost my mind. After I returned to my table I did not tell my kids what had happened, but when they returned from making their own salads, they had the same complaint about the attendant cleaning around them. Before leaving, I asked for the manager and as she walks up to me she has this look of inconvenience on her face. It did not matter to me because I voiced my concerns anyway, and of course she acted as if she was concerned and would address the issue. I know she wont. But I felt better after getting it off my chest.
This is a really nice place to sit and eat. Good atmosphere. Nice respectful employees. Great food. Really no complaints about the place itself. Would give 5 stars but this places location is in oildale and surrounded by Hotels which are flooded by tweakers so your constantly worried about your vehicle while dining in. My car was broken into here and I will not be returning.
Not sure why theres negative comments. Christmas week and wait was less then 5 minutes. Great home cooking with many options. Service and price are superb. Always a good experience. Update 1 year later and still the best home style cooking Ive had. Excellent service as usual.
On the plus side, the food is very plentiful and often quite good. The service is always friendly, too. One thing that keeps happening every time I go is that if they are serving pork roast, it is bone dry. Not even the sauce can save it. I also wish their banana cream pie used a banana pudding base instead of vanilla since the color of that is a little off-putting and its far too easy to get a piece that has no bananas at all. While I am out on this limb, a crust other than the one they use for fruit pies would make more sense to me.
The restaurant itself feels cozy and small in a comfortable way, despite being sizeable. Atmosphere is a charming countryside feel. Salad bar is part for the course for a buffet restaurant, the hot food this evening was quite good. The enchilada was to die for. Staff regularly replaced expended food items in a timely manner despite the holiday crush. Owner was helpful in addressing a minor issue. Overall, a pleasant and comfortable experience I would repeat when in the area.
Great food. Very attentive staff. Everything was delicious. Fresh fruit. Many quality options. Really fresh food. We will definitely be coming back.Update, been back atleast every week. Doing math with wife. I think its more cost effective to eat here then cook at home.... Never disappointed. Literally always happy to have eaten here. Back for tmrw Sunday brunch.
Our family utilized one of the banquet rooms for a group of at least 40-50 people. It was in nicely set up and clean. They had alot of different types of food to choose from their buffet & the food was very good. They also have a nice salad bar and an over the top dessert bar...the employees very friendly and attentive, and the price was right. I definitely recommend this restaurant for regular dining or for groups.
I eat here quite a bit for lunch meetings. The place is always clean and the food is as good as you would want. We have had Hodels cater many work events and they always come through. If you are just looking for a quick meal or need to serve 1,000 people Hodels can handle it. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
I came here for a Repass and they seated us in the harvest room. Upon entering the building I checked out the bathroom and it smelled great and looked even better, everything was clean. The buffet itself was nicely situated, there was a nice amount of space between each food bar. The food was good tasting and the salad and toppings were fresh. The table service was excellent, the people were available if you needed them, they were attentive without suffocating you and they asked sometimes before taking a plate away. Now the dessert bar could have been better, the cookies were a bit too doughy and the red velvet cupcakes were not up to par. There was a copious amount of desserts to choose from and the ice cream was delicious. I walked out feeling happy and full.
Usually when we go we have amazing service and we have never complained. Today we went in for lunch and our server ignored us for the most part. She never asked if we needed anything or if I needed a refill on my coffee or my gfs drink. We were talking for a good 30 to 45 minutes and our server only asked us what kind of drinks we wanted and brought us our check. That is all. When we were getting ready to leave, our plates that would normally be picked up by the server or the busser were still sitting on the side of the table, stacked. since we all work in the food industry so we clean after ourselves. The waitress went to pick up the dishes noticed us and then walked away without the dishes. I have never felt so hurt by a servers treatment of myself or my family. We will be returning because I refuse to let a server keep me from an establishment I enjoy. Hopefully we do not get her again.
Its a very relaxing environment, great place to dine at with friends and family. Awesome place to gather all to eat and catch up on good times . Food is delicious. I could eat here all day and night if I could. It does get a bit crowded on weekends, if you are willing to wait around. Weekdays are best to be here when its not so crazy. Overall an amazing place with great customer service.
The food is always good here at Hodels. I dont have a complaint about the food, but I DO have some issues about the seating and staffing conditions. I come here often............like REAL often! More often than I should! I dont have any complaints about the food whatsoever. The food is great! The seating situations on the other hand is not so good. I HATE being seated in a booth..............namely the booths surrounding the dessert area. The seats are uncomfortable, for one thing. The seats are bumpy, its an uncomfortable feeling having to try to get out of the booth to get more food when people are trying to get their dessert. There are a couple of booths WAAAAAY in the back, hidden so far that the waitress or waiter forgets that there are patrons in booths back there. (Ive complained about this before, (and even though I return, because the food is so good), obviously, my complaints have gone unheard and forgotten! The last time I was there; after we were seated, the waitress didnt even come over to ask what we wanted to drink; my husband had to go and ask a random worker for our drinks. Our finished plates were never cleared, and we were never asked if we needed a refill on our drinks. We could have just gotten up from our seats after we were done eating and walked out without paying..................but our so called waitress was sure to come to our table to drop off our ticket, even though she never cleared our table of spent plates, or asked if we needed a refill on our drinks.
Great home-style buffet with vast selection, and high quality food. Clean family friendly environment. Price is reasonable for the quality of the entire experience. I have never experienced unruly, rude people who are obnoxious, and allow their kids to touch all the food and run wild here. (unlike Hometown Buffet, and Golden Corral)
Definitely historical. Interior carpet smells old. Not what I want to be smelling when eating. They serve lots of food during their buffet but what they have in quantity they definitely lack in quantity. Its a must visit if youve never been but I dont see myself visiting often. Their dated dining rooms definitely require some updating. I recommend their waffles
This is review for banquet room rental. Kasey Flud was professional, and she made the rental easy. The sun room was perfect for our party of 37, 14 were young children. Room was ready on time, and the tablecloths were hunter green with yellow napkins artfully fanned into goblets. There was plenty of room to mingle and room for kids to play. The two servers were very attentive, keeping dished cleared, water, coffee, and tea filled. They also cut and served the cake we brought. Everyone was very pleased with the experience. Food was good. Lots of parking. We would reserve again.
Food is always good and fresh with friendly staff. Friday nights they have bbq meat in their buffet and they all taste the same like they have the same seasonings on it. The friend chicken needs to be brined, its sometimes tough and flavorless. Saturday nights they have breakfast on their buffet...at least they did. Their omelets were awesome and my favorite is their waffles. I could eat all of them.
Contracted the liberty hall for our 30th anniversary and it was perfect. Special thank you to Kasey who is very nice and made it look easy, also she is very professional. We highly recommend it. All of our guest complimented the food and the set up they all said it was beautiful. I will definitely keep them in mind for future life events. :D
Hodels is always good. My group had a rare opportunity to have lunch out. We were seated in a nice section and then food, especially them fried chicken brings folks from all over. At least 6 different salads (maybe more), lots of topping for a green salad. Constantly being refreshed.Hodels loves them business of feeding folks and takes great pride in their catering too. They also have various rooms for rent with ample parking.
The food and service is always awesome here! They have amazing desserts too, besides the delicious selection of hot foods and salads. Hodels also has a lot of great meeting and conference rooms. Ive taught training courses twice in the last couple of weeks, and the staff are always attentive and make it easy to do our job managing our events. Not to mention the drinks and catering for the events are always top notch! I recommend Hodels as a wonderful place to stop and eat, just off HWY 99. And Id say its by far the best place in Bakersfield to host any event!!!
Overall food was good ,would have like yo have more of a variety to choose from .Went during lunch, dont know if that made a difference or not .staff was friendly except the waitress that was assigned to our table. She wasnt very friendly and when she gave us our check she just put on table and walked away. She didnt even ask if we intended to maybe get something else......
I enjoyed the place with latge salad bar and buffet with freshly smoked bbq. The food was good and price extremely reasonable at just over $10 a person in 2019 Californis is unherad of. The one issue is their exhaust fans were not working and it was very smoky inside. The waiter apologized so no big deal. It was busy and 15 minute wait to get table but that is less or same as waiting for food to be cooked someplace else. I would go back.
Ive been to Hodels twice now and am pleased with the selection and the preparation. They have a nice salad bar, a good fish/seafood selection, several meat selections, a few soups, and a large dessert selection. The country decor and the small gift shop add to the charm of the place. Id like to see some more vegetable options.
Despite the long line for a seat when you get there, you always get seated very promptly. Waiters/ waitresses are always pleasant and give great customer service. Food is always consistently delicious. Other customers are nice and courteous as well. The only thing I dont like is the chocolate fountain because its right in the center of it all, and my kids always want that first BUT I dont give in I serve them food first then I reward them with the fountain. Maybe if they put it somewhere by the omelette bar in the corner us parents can just sit or kids down without them asking for it. 😂 Other than than I LOVE HODELS.
Hodels has been a family favorite for decades (since my youth). Many large family, church, school and job events are held or celebrated here. The restaurant is unique in its ability to host many large events simultaneously and serve all well. The buffet style service continues to amaze me with its high quality and variety. The staff has been universally curtious and helpful. Its a great place for a Sunday brunch or dinner. Its great place for a group event of almost any kind.
Great mix of fine dining and a buffet! So its great food and toull never leave there hungry (which Happens a lot with me) . The customer service was fantastic, even for our large group! Overall, a great place to enjoy some great food, great service, and a fufilling meal.
If you come to Bakersfield and you havent been to Hodels then you cant say youve really been to Bakersfield. Best place to eat down home cooked meals. Fresh food, friendly staff, and very anxious to meet your needs. They have the best salad bar. Fresh fruits and veggies. Sunday Brunch is amazing. And kid friendly! Bring the family. Youll love it!
We had dinner to celebrate an award that my wife got at her work. Dinner was good like always but I had forgot my phone. We were driving through the parking lot and our waitress came flying out with it chased us through three rows of the parking lot to make sure we got our phone. Dont know who she was but we are very appreciative
This place is a local favorite but it really is a dive. Food with little seasoning and often cold. Work always books meetings here and the food is horrible. The banquet rooms are small and run down with zero technology. The catered food is even worse than the buffet line. Just tubs of slop and dried out meat or chicken. There are much better places then this for dining and for business meetings.
Im suprised this place has good reviews, I was there for breakfast on 7-26-16. The choices were minimal probably a total of 7. The eggs, waffles and buttermilk pancakes were good. Thanks for the hard working lady behind the stove, wish she would of had more help from others walking around without a purpose. Bacon was chewy and hard seemed old, more fruit than anything else but they were sour/bitter not even close to being sweet. The business needs a good cleaning noticed plenty of dust in the ceiling especially around the a/c vents. Definitely will not be a returning customer.
Probably the best country-style buffet in town. They scratch make their sides and biscuits and cut and roast their own meats. They are miles ahead of the chain places like Golden Corral or Hometown. The only issue isnt really their fault, but people know they are good so they get really busy some nights. I have to give them credit, they get people through at a decent pace, even on Thanksgiving. The one thing i wish they would add is ice cream, but the pie and cobbler is delicious. Also, the cinnamon rolls are to die for when they are still warm.
On more than one occasion Id say about 4 just to be sure of what I thought of them their food is not very good and I guess the price is okay depending on which day you go. I was not very satisfied with their to-go boxes cuz I think they should give you as many containers as if you were eating there but they only give you two boxes which one is for salads and the other boxes for your hot stuff your main dish. They do not give you a container for your soup or for your dessert they do not give you the option to have two cold trays or two hot trays they dont even allow you to purchase them or even charge a little extra for one or the other I went there there is a gentleman in front of me who was asking about take out he ended up getting upset throw in the boxes on the counter because of the way that they have it and walking out and he was very upset so I told him to give review and maybe they change it
Super Fantastic lunch buffet! Today was BBQ day! Being the carnivore that I am I had to try them all! Ribs were good, brisket was quite tasty but the Tri-Tip was earthshatteringly Awesome!Everything was quite tops in flavor, and they have a desert bar with @20 different flavors of cupcakes... amazing.
Our California Retired Teachers group meets at Hodels every month. We have 100+ members at our monthly luncheons. The food is always wonderful. We are also very blessed to have servers Brittney and Caleb, who constantly go above and beyond, and work incredibly hard!! Brittney has set up extra tables and chairs for our members who have late- comers, without one complaint, and a smile on her face. She has made up plates of food for several members who cannot go through the buffet line. She is an amazing asset to Hodels. We are so glad to have Brittney and Caleb with us each month!!

2022-04-13I ate here on a Wednesday afternoon to try the chicken fried steak, mashed potato’s, gravy and biscuit. Everything tasted homemade and fresh. Lots of salad bar, deserts and hot lunch items to choose from. By far better than the Vegas buffets.

2021-10-12❤️A must try in Bakersfield!!!! This is REAL COUNTRY GOURMET. I feel like it’s almost worth the drive from LA! Flavorful choices that screams yummmm in your taste buds!!! Thick bacon 🥓, fresh homemade breads n bagels, omelets, fresh hand breaded chicken daily, orange juice etc etc Price is very reasonable and very spacious. No long waits. Fully staffed and very cordial waiters. Sufficient parking on site. Sundays the brunch menu has everything 👌FYI

2021-08-18This place is super good and easy for a quick bite, or to hang out a little longer. We came for breakfast. The potatoes and waffles were probably my favorite here, but the cinnamon rolls are also seriously delicious. They have scrambled eggs out, but you can also order an omelette or eggs over easy, or however you want them, which is really neat. Theres a whole fruit bar, yogurt, granola, cereal, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, all sorts of jams, melted butter and hot syrup for the waffles, whipped cream and strawberry sauce, muffins, cupcakes, cobbler, and a mushroom-sausage stir fry. This place is definitely a great deal, the price is unbeatable, and the food is very very delicious. The staff was really friendly, and the restaurant overall has a really nice, country ambiance.

2022-03-22Country style cooking, fresh and hot and let’s not forget delicious. I can’t find one thing to complain about and the prices are always right. My kind of joint especially with such a calm open environment with plenty of seating and parking

2022-04-06In town for work, found this absolute gem. The atmosphere, the people, the variety, the quantity, the service….like, the best. The omelette was literally the best I have ever eaten, and the waffles were literally (using this word correctly) the best I have ever had. Crunchy on the outside, soft, perfect. For the price and niche this restaurant fills, it is my favorite. I will find an excuse to come back to Bakersfield just to eat here.

2021-07-18Hodel’s has been a staple in Bakersfield since the Viet Nam war, long time.I came in for dinner with a party of four. They have one of the best salad bars here. Three types of soup, wide variety of dinner entrees including tri-tip, beef tips over mashed potatoes or rice, deep pit meat, fried chicken, chicken with lemon and cappers, lasagna and various vegetables. Most of the items I tasted were really pretty good.Save room for desserts, vast assortment of desserts, something for everyone.

2022-03-22The food is good, but the owner is a very rude, and inconsiderate person. We scheduled our wedding dinner at the barn. I will never forget his comment to me because we were quoted a cheaper price than what he wanted. A week before our wedding he asked if we can find a different location because he was not happy that his rep gave us an incorrect quote. After years of attending our annual church banquet here I would not ever recommend this place. I couldnt believe that he would even ask me that knowing the planning and preparation people take for such an event. In the end he was so concerned with making more money that he failed to see any value in faithful customers.

2022-04-26Our group of 25 thoroughly enjoyed your Sunday brunch the morning after our Stuart family reunion! All the servers were SOOO attentive & friendly! Every since Sunday weve been raving about the great dishes & how we just need a few more bites of well, everything!! I live 130 miles south but come up to visit family in Bako and so glad they introduced me to your lovely restaurant some years ago!!!
