Great places to get action figures, comics, trading cards etc. staff is nice and courteous and didnt hesitate to come from behind the counter when I couldnt find the things I was looking for, the prices are decent and Im happy about that. They also upheld there 10 percent discount that I got from yelp and I appreciate that as well. I cant wait to go back, it was a great experience, and I love my breaking bad toy etc lol
Just got done shopping with my son at this store. Man, he loves coming here so much and I can see why! After buying one or two things with his little friends on a school field trip, he dragged me here when I had him during my errands. I’m so glad I caved and went in to check it out! This place has everything from comics and novels to a life sized R2D2 replica signed by famous Star Wars actors and writers! The people you meet both staff and other clientele are more like friends and family than strangers too!
Absolute beauty! This Comic book store gave me all the right feelings when I walked in. It was very organized! There were sooooooo many comics of all sorts. There were a lot of rare issues that they sold. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and gave their all when it came to assisting their customers. They had a Give Away event in support of the movie Shazam. You could have won early showings to see Shazam a month early. They were also giving out signed posters.
I heard about this place from a YouTube video where is Zachary Levi when comic book shopping with a YouTube host. The website noted that it is a great source for comics with variant covers. I found plenty to choose from, with some assistance from very helpful staff. I also found things I didnt know existed, like a series of cat inspired buttons. I chose the Doctor Who inspired cat buttons. The perfect gift for the Doctor Who and cat lover in my life.
Small intimate comic book and collectibles shop. The staff here is super knowledgeable and can hold comic lover related conversations for as long as you like. They do require as well as provide mask, not to mention sanitizer (though was put when I stopped by recently... sigh... but I always have some on me)Some of the rows and displays are narrow to walk through with other people definitely not made for high traffic, but the layout itself is epic.
Only knew of this comic book store because of James Cordon. Been wanting to go ever since. Finally was able to and this store was everything and more. Met the owner and he showed us awesome things. Greeted us warmly and was very welcoming. I also love how helpful everyone was and the addition to the pride flag for pride month. This is a great shop. Anyone who loves comics won’t be disappointed.
I ordered a special edition comic book from thus store, when it didnt ship out on time I asked when it was going to ship out. Their response was to cancel and refund my order all because I asked when I was going to get my book and stated that with the length of time it was taking I was getting impatient, apparently it is insulting to them that I was excited for my book and wanted to know when i would get it. I would not recommend ordering from this store at all and I will never order from them again.
I live in New York and shop at Golden Apple Comics website. They have an awesome Variant selection. And thats not all thats awesome. These guys/gals are great. Customer service is outstanding. They work with you and give great offers if possible. When I go back to Cali one day I will definitely stop by and see this great place for myself. Pleasure doing business with Golden Apple Comics and it will continue. Thank you Golden Apple Comics. Benny
This review is for the online portion. Made an order 2 months ago. Uncommunicative of issues and ghosted my emails. Was forced to call the actual store front in an attempt to get resolution. As of the writing of this review, issue has still not been resolved.Update after owners response below.Person who answered the phone was great and prompt with response. Would rate in person response a 5 vs 1 for online response. However, clearly the owner does not take kindly to requests for information. I have email trail to support. Apparently calling and leaving a poor review is the only way to get any sort of resolution. Email that was ghosted was actually sent earlier in the week, not the one sent prior to the original review post.I acknowledged the damaged issue previously, however I waited a full week after I was told my order would be shipped soon. After no further information or tracking info, I requested a status update email on when to expect my order to be shipped. That was 3 days prior. With no response I called, emailed and left this review that I planned to change after some form of confirmation of shipping. In addition, in the last email sent I requested a refund if the issue was not resolved today. Unfortunately this led to a passive aggressive email, while understandable, does not excuse the poor customer service.Refund accepted, would not recommend for online ordering. With the poor response and frankly unprofessional manner of the owner, do not plan to return in store either.
This review is for the online store. Emails were always responded to quickly, they were really nice and helpful, and my comics arrived today packaged extremely well and in the condition stated on the website. I’m really happy and will definitely be ordering from here again.
Definition of Local Comic Book Store, great knowledge from the staff, always friendly and open to asnwer any questions. Small place but huge selection of comics, graphic novels and some manga. If you are new to the comics and have some questions this is the place to start.
Last great vestige of the old school comic book shops. Helpful staff with plenty of knowledge of the material and willing to do what they can to make your shopping experience from a quick stop for the latest titles, to finding a hard-to-get back issue or collectible.I take my kids in to get them hooked on their favorites and mine.
My first experience with Golden Apple Comics was not a pleasant one. I pre-ordered Animal Crossing Monopoly back in July and was told that my preorder should be arriving around 8/25. Proceed to two weeks later and still no sign. I emailed them when it didnt arrive at first and they sad that their distributor hadnt sent the game yet. Fair enough. However, what I find unacceptable is how uncommunicative they were. I had to reach out to them at every step, not the other way around. I then asked for an update regarding my order or I would like a refund, which they are selling this for a premium price in my opinion, and I didnt receive a reply for about 24hrs. I email them again today, almost 24 hours later, and state that if I dont hear from them then Ill take the refund to my credit card company. They proceed to send excuses and then accuse me of threatening them with going to the credit card company because I had the gall to request a refund for an item I pre-ordered months ago and still didnt have. They sent a refund after that, however, I will not be ordering from them again.Edit: Response to reply. I love how you say I was updated multiple times when I was the one always reaching out, not the other way around. Also, yes, I didnt bring up getting a refund through my credit card company after not receiving a PRE-ORDER item two weeks after promised delivery and no update from your end. Also, you just happen to go quiet right after one email mentions the possibility of a refund. Nice try passing the buck. Your business is a joke.
Golden Apple is by far the best Comic Book Shop, not just in Los Angeles but anywhere! I love these guys! They have a great selection and pricing is always fair. The people who work there are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. One of my best memories of visiting LA was coming in to this iconic shop.
Golden Apple has become my absolute favorite store to mail order from. From the customer service, communication, packaging and quality of product, I have been nothing but pleased with these guys. Makes me feel safe mail ordering, even though I am clear across the country. Highly recommend!
Incredibly friendly staff that was more than happy to just chat as well as help me locate my comics. They have a great selection from classics to new releases and are very knowledgeable to help you choose. It was a wonderful experience walking around this little shop interacting with all the staff. If I lived in the area, I would definitely be a regular.
Good selection of books all around but the customer service was bare, one employee was very cool and collect, very friendly and helpful but the store owner made the experience very uncomfortable, kept staring at me while his employee was ringing me up at the cash register, not sure what his problem was but definitely isn’t the best way to treat a customer with zero greeting or any help whatsoever, the owner should take some lessons from his employee instead of watching over there shoulder, regardless great selection.
This seemed to be a good business to buy comics from initially, but it all changed after an order of one $3.99 2018 comic. I received a different cover from what was published on the website. I had kindly asked to return the comic for a refund. Instead they canceled all my future orders stating that the covers on the website are not always is published. I would have accepted that response and been out $3.99. However they just decided that my business wasnt worth $3.99 or even a rational response.I had spent nearly 400$ in the last 4 months, to have them lose me as a customer over a single $3.99 comic showed me that this was a sign of someone acting with their emotions. When they should have been responding to their customers using good customer service and consideration for their customers.
This is one of the top 3 best comic shops in the Greater Los Angeles area. They have very festive events and signings and they have the biggest selection I have ever seen. They are very generous, especially during Free Comic Book Day and their sales. VERY generous. There really is no place like Golden Apple, and most consider it to be the very best comic book store in LA. They also have a website where you can buy from their store as you would if you were inside.
The dont actually need me to review this place, but Im going to do it anyway - this is THE comic book store to visit in LA. It cannot be missed, this is a historical place for comic books. The size is relatively small, but has really rich collection of stuff. They still carry manga, and probably more complete collection than other larger places.
Great staff, wide variety of comics including independent titles. S/o to the main guy that always helps my partner & I find new stuff to read. The only comic store worth going to in the area!! Haven’t found a store out here I liked as much as graham cracker comics in Chicago until I found the Golden Apple!
One of the best comic book shops Ive ever been too. Theyve got current issues as well as an amazing section of back issues. I also like to go through the $1 comic boxes and seeing what treasures I can find there. The staff is also very knowledgeable, friendly, and doesnt crowed you while you look around.
Sold my comicbook collection to them. Mike was really easy going and super quick going through my 13 boxes of books. We came to an agreement on price and they cut me a check immediately. The entire process took less than an hour.Would recommend contacting them first if you have a collection to sell.
Very nice family store. My teenage son had surgery nearby and wanted a comic book to look at while recovering. Stopped in and the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Even gave my son a free pack of Pokemon cards. I would definitely recommend this place and will stop by again when we are back for follow up visits.
We went to this Comic store today for a meet and greet of the cast from Miraculous Ladybug. It was very organized, clean and all around a lot of fun. The main gentleman that was around was very polite and also respected his neighboring coffee shop so no one blocked their doors for their guest. We didnt get a chance to hang and look around, but we will definitely be going back! Thanks guys for your hospitality!!
Crooks! Offered me $40 for a Fantastic Four #52 (5.0) and $50 for 2 Rick and Morty #1s and about 30 LE Auto Comics w/ COA - A few employees are decent, however I think his name is Mike (big fat inbred guy they keep near the back) is pond scum !!! There comics are overpriced, and I went to buy a LE variant only to have the last on purchased in front of me by a fellow employer .... Definitely not a friendly, trustworthy comic shop! I will never go back ~
This is my regular weekly stop. They have my pulls here. This is my comic store. The staff are consistently friendly and know their stuff. Theyve become more like friends. Always remember my name and ask how Im doing. Always excited to see me. Lots of great nerdy events. Sales all the time. Its my kind of atmosphere.
50percent off sales... they still Always overcharge me... Dollar comics are stacked or hidden by the back and not the front. Asked to let them see them, they said No....asked questions later on social media, no response... communication Needs to improve. Happened at least three times in the past two years...... Miss the old store, when I do go... its in n out fast.
This is the best comic shop in the galaxy! Been coming here on my dogs walk most Saturdays since I accidentally stumbled upon it after one of his obedience classes when he was a puppy. Theyre totally welcoming, super friendly real comic buffs that can answer just about any question you have!
Today I went back there for their Thanksgiving weekend sale. I have gone there in the past for back issues and they have always been one of the most organized stores to get around in. Their back issues are overall grouped together and easy to browse. Their signs are easy. They have a lot of great stuff. The staff in the store is always friendly and helpful.
Ordered a blank variant cover over the internet. Store failed to communicate about it until two weeks after its release, when they demanded shipping charges. I expressed my frustration with them, particularly because Im not in town, and was surprised there was no option to have the blank cover signed before shipping. They asked if I wanted to be refunded, because I was clearly excessively frustrated by their process, to which I responded no.Then they refunded it anyway.Thats breech of contract.I passed on purchasing that book locally because I trusted the ordering process with them. My mistake. Never again.Ive had orders filled from Northern California, Ohio, New Jersey and Connecticut before I even got COMMUNICATION from this store.Dont do business with these people.
My favorite comic store in Los Angeles! They have a weekly pull service I use so I dont miss any issues. There were a few cool signing events recently even one with Chris Daughtry who did a Batman vs Superman cover! I would definitely recommend this store. The staff is friendly and knows about what they are selling.
Thank you Golden Apple Comics for hold my two comics that i had purchased in the summer of 2018. Today I got a voice mail from Golden Apple Comics that they were holding my comics from two years ago which I thought was hilarious. I was happy to get the message and go get them it was a nice surprise.
Never was greeted by any of the personnel inside the store. Employees were far too busy to stocking shelves with new comics, where as it would take 2 seconds of their day to say a little hello. Not even that. Upon 10 minutes inside the store looking through some boxes of $1 comics, I make my way up to the register and ALAS! Someone greets me. I was ready to buy two comics, but then last second, I decided to leave. Id rather spend my money elsewhere. The ComicBug is far better than this cramped space.
Decent size shop w great ppl. Called in to see if they had campbells mermaid figure n they had it. Went in the next day and they kept the box on the side w my name on it (I just told my name n was interested in buyi g it, didnt ask to reserve it).. small gesture goes a long way. only reason taking a star off is due to parking. they have a parking space at the back but w limited space. (10min parking) street parking is very limited as well.
If this is the first time visiting LA then this is the store you should probably visit first. Lots of trades, current issues, not so many quality back issues, some silver comics in display cases but moderately priced. They have writers and artist sign monthly so get on their email list. Overall A-
The incredible shrinking store. Golden Apple once had a huge shop in the center of Melrose with another in Northridge and a third on Pico. Now, Ryan Liebowitz, the owners son, has purged and shrunk everything into a tiny boutique on the outskirts of Melrose, an isolated bodega smaller than any prior store that fronted their name. Theyve fired all their professional buyers, including one who really understood the market and helped build their name. The biggest disgrace is Ryan taking his fathers once-mighty legacy and putting the whole thing up for auction on eBay for a meager $679,000! No takers on that lemon (Google this - it happened in 2011). That failure resulted in Ryan Liebowitz (a caterer who dreams of being a movie producer) struggling to keep the doors open for revenue by placing overpriced toys where any child can reach them and comic books above the reach of the average ten-year-old. In a last-ditch attempt to draw excitement into the withering, selection-poor venue, Ryan and his mother, Sharon, have started NAKED GIRLS READING and other after hours events while still expecting to sell comics to minors the next day. They basically cater to tourists who dont ask questions. You have much better options with the far superior Meltdown Comics, just a mile away west of La Brea on Sunset, or at The Secret Headquarters, a few miles east at 3817 W Sunset Blvd. Melrose Music & Comics outpaces Golden Apple in graphic novels, t shirts, posters and collectibles, and they are just a few blocks west. These stores have much bigger selections, cleaner environments, better personnel, and they actually run a service in helping you locate what you want. None of these stores have: leaking air conditioning units that drip on unbagged books, frequently undelivered comic shipments, faulty computers, and a seriously compromised grading system for back issues.

2022-02-25Be careful when purchasing from this store. I purchased wolverine #2 from the site. After reading the description of the comic I made the purchase for $40. The comic in the description said it had natural signs of use but overall in good condition. When I received it I opened it to find out that it had a puncture through the entire comic. After I contacted them and got treated badly they said to send it back and they would refund. I tried to explain that this was a gift and wanted to know if I could get a gift card they never answered me. So after about 3-4 days I decided to call and speak with a manager. She was not in so I spoke with some random. He said he could help, his help was “send another email”. Their are so many great online comic book stores besides this one with great customer experience. Save your money and take that route. UPDATE: I did not send the comic back after some emails back and forth. They act like them messing up your order is your fault. And they address you as if you don’t know anything. Save your money go to elite comics

2022-05-17A great place for both new and long time readers. Their selection of back issues is pretty good and they have some amazing collectibles. As I was checking the back issue bins, a family with young children walked in. A member of the staff lovingly helped the kids find comics based o. Their interests. They are very welcoming.

2021-08-25Top notch staff. Carries everything: new books, back issues, graphic novels, toys. Even provides masks for a safe shopping experience which was greatly appreciated because the Delta variant was rampant at this time. A lot of product in a small space, but well organized. A must see if you are in LA.

2022-06-10I went here to sell/trade some old X-Men issues. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and I was treated wonderfully. They have a great selection of comics, graphic novels, and other collectables. I almost couldnt get out of there without spending all the money they gave me for my comics! Will definitely be buying too many books here from now on!

2022-05-19Our local shop didn’t have several issues of the Darth Vader series we are reading so I took to searching online. I found most of what we needed at Golden Apple’s website and was able to order and have shipped. After placing my initial order we found out our shop was out of 2 of the more recent issues too. I contacted these guys to see if we could get them added to the first order and it was a breeze. Super quick customer service, and awesome packaging on the shipment which just arrived a day earlier than original tracking indicated. Thanks a bunch!

2022-08-21I visit Golden Apple every time I come to LA. Its one of the best shops in the country. This place has all the interesting and unique comics Im looking for that typical comic shops dont have. The owner is a friend of comic book creators and brings in incredible talent for the local community to meet. Highly recommend Golden Apple for all your comic book needs.

2022-04-21Outstanding first time experience at Golden Apple! I heard about them for some time and finally made some time to drop by and visit after finishing some errands. I walked in and...YOOOOOOOOO...there is Spidey and R2D2. Space is small, but accommodating. Almost got lost in the selection of books and collectibles. Great stuff. Great staff. Ill be back.
