The stay was okay. Staff is at the desk all hours so when we got there around 1230am we were able to check in. When walking into the room though there were hairs in the shower which was gross!! The hotel is about 2 miles from the beach which wasn’t terrible, but if your main reason for staying here is going to the beach, get a hotel closer. Also the staff was very nice at the desk and always greeted us, but when we called the front desk no one answered.
Great value, location, design, ammenities & parking. The only thing better was the staff. They are super friendly, and helped us change our reservation to an ADA room when we discovered wed overlooked that detail. The neighborhood is pretty quiet. The restaurant is vastly underrated. Design and updates are all current, understated & lend an air of tranquility. We stayed there before and after a surgery. It could not hav been more convenient for that.
We just got back from spending a night at Gateway Hotel. We were very pleased, everything was clean and very kept up. Our room was quiet and comfortable. I was especially pleased with the staff who were very kind and helpful in an up spirited way. The rooms are small but newly decorated and nice. We would stay again!!
Walls are very thin so not a place to go if you want to sleep through the night. My first night there, at 0200, there was very persistent, alarm type beeping in the hall outside my room. The front desk didn’t answer the phone when I called from my room; I was drowsy so it didn’t occur to me call from my cell phone until 0400 & then someone answered and fixed the issue. We had to pay for parking which is typical for that area.Good location and staff is nice. I wish them well but I won’t be back!
Clean rooms, Easy parking, Delicious little breakfast bags. Even though this place does not have a pool, It is a good base if you plan on being active In the LA area. It was clean and well maintained. It felt safe. They do charge for parking daily, But it was not a fight to get a spot. In the morning we would get breakfast bags that that had yogurt , a fresh fruit, granola, and a pastry. It allowed us to skip breakfast each day and wait for lunch.
The location is great as you are close enough to the beach and easy access to the rest of LA. The rooms are great, service is good, nice gym and being next to the Socolo restaurant is amazing. I went there everyday, if only for cocktails. Food and beverage are amazing. Service is outstanding too.
I would not recommend staying at this Hotel. The staff was unhelpful and uncapable, and after politely asking to speak to a manager to help solve a problem at check in, i was told this was not an option. After finding a solution myself (which involved several phone calls overseas), i was given a groundfloor room with a view of the parking lot. Several of the hooks in the wall fell off under the weight of... one shirt. Grab and go breakfast was a joke. For over $200 a night, this hotel is one of the worst i have stayed at.
I have a 2 queen bedroom the beds are comfortable rhe room is clean and comfortable parking is $15 a day the restaurant is a 5 🌟 from food to drinks...nice and quiet area during my stay...you would need to get coffee and breakfast somewhere else as they only serve bagged breakfast which includes fruit Muffin and granola bar...they give you a pack of coffee to use in the coffee machine thats located in your room bathroom...we a have a mini fridge in the room no microwave. The bathroom had a shower and tub in one..overall its ok.
I stayed here for 3 nights and had no complaints. I knew it was a bit of a hike to the beach but that was okay as I didn’t mind the walk. Bagged breakfast instead of continental but that’s most hotels now with covid. It was a bit noisy in my room but I sleep with ear plugs so it didn’t bother me much. I didn’t have a car so parking wasn’t an issue
Location was good and price was reasonable. But one employee in particular kept walking around w no mask almost everytime I saw them. Also, when we went to our room for the first time we found that same employee chillen on her phone w her feet up on our desk???? Never has that EVER happen. Truly embarrassing.
Hotel is clean is probably the only good thing. You get charged $15 to park at the hotel even though your a paying guest there. Also the only amenities offered is a restaurant and it’s closed Sunday and mondays so we weren’t able to eat there. And then the lady at the front said there would be free breakfast downstairs so we got up early thinking it would be your standard free hotel breakfast but it actually just a snack bag.So very disappointing. Hotel is alsoA little dingy and a scary looking in the hallways . Won’t be back. 2 starts only for the kind attitudes up front
Free parking is nice, but I’ve never been to a hotel with a slower check-in process. I’ve stayed here 3 times and it’s a minimum 10 minutes each time. Not from waiting in line, just when you’re at the counter. But the beds are nice, and free parking right under your hotel is an extremely rare perk in LA.
Perfect location with free parking. The staff are super friendly. The check in is 3pm and check out is 12pm, better policy than many hotels. The window can be open in the room and outside stairs are available if you don’t want to take the elevator, which made us safer in COVId. Free Breakfast package is provided, including yogurt, fruit and a cup cake.
I was really looking forward to my stay here based on the reviews. The parking onsite is helpful and the location is very close to the beach and in the heart of Santa Monica. The reason I am giving two stars is because I didn’t sleep the whole night. The walls are paper thin. It sounded like the ceiling was going to crack and the people above me were going to fall on top. The people above me wouldn’t stop stomping until 4 am. I complained to front desk but all they said was sorry. When they rang the people upstairs it only made it worse they continued to stomp even louder. I would have been better off sleeping in my car that night.
We booked 2 nights and two room through booking.com. They were suppose to be near each other and were not. Each room had 2 queen size beds, my son 17 old son that has cp was in one bed, and my husband and I in another. We climb into bed, and kept smelling a stench, like vomit. We pulled back the cover to find old dried up fecal matter at the bottom of fitted sheet!!! They moved us rooms, and only discounted the room 50% they told me they do 3 checks before making a room available like if we are not telling the truth. Very upset and disgusted. Also booking.com has not adjusted the discount. We had to stay there because no other place could accommodate date the handicap accessible and two room request.
It’s a shame the only thing good about this hotel is LOCATION, it’s right next to all attractions. First off you have to pay for parking each night as a guest? Also, YOU WOULD THINK that this hotel would try to add the extra amenities because of where they stand next to beach?! Nope, they give you a coffe machine in your bathroom lol, but make you go down to the lobby to get coffe bags and cream, breakfast is not in a cafe they only have it in bags...they only give apples, granola bars, and muffins in a brown bag?! Paying $400 for two nights and I can’t even get a proper cooked breakfast or free parking is saddening! Never coming back.....
I was in a pinch and booked a private upstairs room for a night. I loved it! I have chemical sensitivities and asked them not to use scented products while cleaning, and they obliged. Soap is unscented. It was pretty quiet, everything was clean. Its a modern building and well maintained. No mold.Theres a minisplit in the room so you can control the AC and heat. Its low frills - walls were cement, I think, and the bed was kind of soft. There was an iron and ironing board in the room as well as a place to hang clothes. Breakfast was very basic, but free. Customer service was great.Very convenient location, near the beach and in the middle of a shopping district. Very walkable.
Gateway hotel is a very nice clean hotel. Janet at the front desk was the most professional person I have ever checked into a hotel with. She Answered all our questions while keeping an upbeat and positive attitude. A very seamless check in! The only downside to this hotel is that the air conditioner units in the rooms can only be turned down to 69...as for me i like to sleep at a 66 or lower degree as i like it cold when i sleep...we will definitely be staying at this hotel time and time again. 1 huge upside is the nightly room holding fee on your card is only 10$ a night.. Ive been in plenty hotels where it was $50-100 a night. Awesome property and right down the street from all the nightlife! Will stay again!
I really enjoyed my one night stay, the welcome was very kind and warm. The parking is free and convenient. The room was really comfortable, and the super plus was the free breaksfast. For a 3 stars hotel in Los Angeles, there was definitely value for money, so I have to say : Wow! thank you !
The rooms were standard. Very clean. The bathroom had everything we needed including a hair dryer. The iron and ironing board in the closet were a nice touch. The continental breakfast in the meeting room was thoughtful but dont expect to fill up. The location of the hotel more than makes up for that with places to eat nearby. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
This hotel is great! The room and bathroom were clean and spacious. The beds were very comfortable. The only thing is you might want to bring your own coffee cup because the ones provided in the room will leak if you use them and the orange chair they have for the desk is a bit tricky to sit in but overall it was a great experience. I would definitely stay here again.
The hotel is nothing fancy, plain and simple but definitely comfortable for a short stay. The room was very clean (no carpet, which I liked) and the beds were very comfortable. The only complaint I had about the room is that the bathroom door does not stay open and it can get quite hot in there after a shower or blow drying your hair. The breakfast was good. Some eggs, toast with jam or cream cheese, some pastries, coffee or tea, yogurt. So a pretty good selection and they do refill so you dont have rush to be the first in line.Overall we had a very good 2 night stay at this Best Western.
Spent the extra $100-$200 at Reputable place. All middle of the night sometimes was hitting the window i was traveling with wife and a 8 month old, we slept 3 hours all night, not a good getaway. Also my wife used the bathroom middle of the night and said there is no water. At $154 a night including taxes no water and something hitting the windows all night was a terrible stay not to mention Marijuana smell in the hallways lobby and in elevators. At check out I explain myself to the front desk agent all she could say is Im sorry Not offering anything or even asking if I would like to speak to a manager. Family and I go and travel to Santa Monica and California areas often but we will not be staying at their location ever again. Stay away spend your money somewhere else and spend the extra 100 to $200 a night at aReputable place.
The hotel is clean and nice. The staff is really helpful and were really polite with me.I had a smay problem where they could not charge my company for the price of the room but it got sorted quickly. The breakfast was somewhat simple but filled me up. Also it is a bit far from the action in santa Monica but overall the hotel is really nice.
We liked it and it was a good choice.Pros:free parking in the big garage beneath the hotel.got 3 packages from Amazon, 7 days before my arrival, service was free of charge (other Hotels would have fees for Postal service)very clean room, elevator, breakfast was small but more than enough with muffins/coffee/yogurt/fruits.reception guy was very friendlyCons:heater stopped working in the morning, and it was way to chillysmall bathroom
Hotel is in a middling part of town. They shut off the elevators sometime after midnight, so keep that in mind when checking in and parking in the underground parking. Free parking was good. Late check in (2 am) was convenient for us. Its about half an hour to 40 minutes to Universal studios/Hollywood, for reference. Room was great, amenities were great. Our room was quiet. Staff was nice.
Could have been better. Front Desk staff was friendly and helpful. Had to move rooms due to excessive noise in hallway. Air conditioning units in both rooms were excessively noisy and made it almost impossible to sleep. Some employees could not speak intelligible English. Uncontrolled remodeling going on in hotel and not well-controlled. Workers were wandering through the hotel. Hotel does not offer Breakfast. You have to use a separately owned restaurant next door.
Worst communication ever!!! All the front desk employees were very lost. No one will give the correct answer.1. We check in and provided a credit card and they went a charge a different one.2. We noticed a different amount and my husband went to front desk to asked about the charge and all the person said was yes, we just charged your debit card, couldnt try your credit card. Not sure why they didnt contacted us to let us know.3. We check out and asked for an invoice and their system was down.4. We were charge 2 more times, call the hotel and no one was able to let us know why.My frustration with this place is that why people cant be trained to provide customer with a good service. At the end no one couldnt find my reservation and until a 3rd person. So theres a deposit fee of the first night plus $10.It would had been a better experience if Gloria when she was checking us in would have give us that information. Will never stay in this place.
Clean, modern hotel perfect for business or mid-range leisure travel, and convenient to the nearby hospital for patient families. Staff is friendly and accommodating. We have been very pleased with our stay and will likely return in the future. Oh, and the underground parking is ample, secure, and free for guests.
Very nice, modern rooms with flatscreen tv and AC. Super clean! Two bottles of water in the room for free. Standart continental breakfast for free as well. Nice neighborhood, everything you need in walking distance. Staff was very friendly, we where to early for check in but they could give us a room without paying extra or something. Enjoyed the stay!
Sorry, way over priced, not worth the money. After taxes and what ever fees the include, $457 for two nights. The room we stayed in was on the second floor. Clean, new and spacious. BUT, the whole idea of a hotel is to get a good nights sleep. Road noise from Santa Monica Blvd and the noise from the third floor above us. Both nights we were woken up at around midnight by people simple walking around the room above us. No carpet, so you hear every step and furniture movement. It was so frustrating. If you stay there, request a top floor room.
Nice decent hotel in SM, clean and bright. I liked it. Breakfast was good too. They had just basics but that was okay with me.However the tap water was a little too soft that made always difficult to wash the soap off my hands. Lol..But the hotel IS nice. You can go for a walk around and all the major stores are in a Very close proximity.Recommended.
This was our first time in Santa Monica and this was one of the best places we have ever stayed. The hospitality was 5 star. Omar was professional and friendly. The rooms were extremely clean. I would recommend this place, and we will stay here again if we ever returned.
For this location near the hospital (where I was working for 3 days), in a busy area, I was surprised how nice this was. Parking was easy, also. Staff was very nice and the hotel is clean. Nice floors in the room, not carpeted (germs). The hotel isnt cheap due to the location, but there arent any other options anyway. At least they dont take advantage of that, and are still very pleasant and care about their guests experience. A friendly, fast IHOP is conveniently located just below it also, for a quick coffee and meal. Highly recommend to those needing to stay in the area.
Initially we were placed in a room which had a lot of street noise. We switched rooms and the noise level was much better. Rooms had comfortable beds and no carpets. Carpets in hallway have seen better days. Underground parking was a nice bonus. Had breakfast at next door restaurant, food was mediocre.
The place is niceRooms are bright and cleanBathroom is cleanBut the best thing to mention is BEDIt was heavenly perfect!Probably one of the best sleeps Ive had for years!I dont know how these guys do it, but they are magicians! :)If youre tired and need a nap - I strongly recommend this place!
I stayed her one night for the LA Marathon 2020 and the Gateway did good...Front Desk Lobby: The staff was very friendly with our check in. We requested an extremely late check out at 6 PM and they were able to accomodate us for $69. We needed the room to shower and rest after the 26.2 mile race. The lobby had a nice lounge area to relax in and there were some PCs available for internet access and to print boarding passes. The whole area looked renovated and had a clean minimalist theme.Rooms: We had two queens in our room and the renovated clean minimalist theme was evident here as well. The floors were wooden and the bathroom was spotless. We received two complimentary bottled waters. Theres a refrigerator to keep drinks/food cold and the flat screen was newer and operational.Overall this is a pretty nice hotel thats about 1.5 miles away from 3rd street promenade and the Santa Monica Pier. Its away from the traffic madness that occurs in that area. Its an easy Uber there or using any of the motorized scooters works too. Theres a couple of dining options within a 1/2 mile radius if you want to stay close as well. I will definitely check out the gateway next time Im staying in the Santa Monica area again. Bon Voyage!
Very pleasant staff. The interior has recently been renovated so it is nice and clean. However, the rooms are randomly numbered, the bathroom door wont stay open, the location on Santa Monica Blvd is awkward and the adjacent restaurant is closed so it was awkward finding dinner after I checked in. And I never did find the exercise room.
Good location at a fair priceIf you need a clean safe room with an excellent location this is it. Not fancy and rooms are not large, but everything is modern and clean. Had a balcony and a fridge. A great price point for Santa Monica. I ate at the adjacent restaurant, which was very handy, and the front desk gave me a 10% discount coupon for the restaurant.
Room was clean, staff very nice and bed was very comfortable. Location worked well for us and it was easy to get to from the freeway. Only issue we had was road noise at night from Santa Monica Blvd. Sirens and trucks were the biggest problem. Ask for a room away from the Blvd.
Very clean rooms, nice large LG TV, quiet fridge with freezer, nice night lights attached to the beds, safe in the room and Wi-Fi, Free parking is a big plus in LA. Close to the beach, the only downside was the noise coming from the busy main street, but the management gave us another room on the other side of the hotel and was good afterwards.
My wife stayed at the Gateway Hotel while I was in the Hospital at St. Johns for 3 nights. I only stayed there myself 1 night. She was very happy with the hotel. It was clean and comfortable the staff was helpful and friendly. It was close to the hospital (within walking distance) and they have a discount for hospital related stays.
A no-frills hotel that gives you a welcoming staff and a comfortable bed. Rooms look more like dormitory rooms. The restaurant is currently closed and breakfast is served in a meeting room. Breakfast, once again, is no-frills compared to other Best Western Hotels that I have stayed. Be on the look out for this hotel as it is at a busy intersection and can easily be missed.
Great base to explore Los Angeles, most sights (Venice, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood) are within easy reach with the car. You get free parking! This is one of the few hotels offering this. Room is very comfy and clean, staff was very friendly, overall we were very happy with choosing to stay at Gateway!
We were not sure what to expect upon arrival. The room was a pleasant surprise. The bed was soft but we got a good nights sleep none-the-less, thats a good thing. The toiletries were more than adequate. And yes, we would come again.Walking downbthe hallway theres a feeling of compaction.
Nice hotel. The king bed was nice, the service was good, front desk was friendly. The location is sparse but an easy walk to all the great places. Along the way theres coffee and a great deli (izzys). The walk let me see plan the visit to touristy places nearby, without being overwhelmed.
Clean room and friendly staff.Would like if the elevator from parking lot would work with hotel key around the clock rather than designated hours. We loaded our car to head to LAX around 5am. Wanted to go back in to check out at front desk but key didn’t work at elevator. Turns out it won’t work until 6am. It cost us time to have to walk up the parking structure ramp and driveway to get back into the hotel.Would stay here again.
The Gateway Hotel features very friendly staff who are professional prompt and courteous. The rooms are modest and clean, there is complimentary WiFi access, and complimentary continental breakfast. I recommend a banana, yogurt, and the instant oatmeal. This hotel is a great value if you are visiting Santa Monica to check out the beach or shopping - its all about a mile away. Its worth setting up a scooter it bike rental account when you visit.
Great hotel, stayed for 2 weeks on a work training. Rooms are very clean and big, service is great and an awesome location. Wish the gym was a little bigger and more variety of hot food at their breakfast buffet, but awesome hotel and will stay here again for an extended stay!!!
Good price for Santa Monica. Clean and everything was in working order. Well appointed room was a bit noisy being right on SMB but earplugs took care of that. Breakfast buffet: I would have liked to see more protein options like eggs or sausage. It was mostly breads and cereals, yogurt and fruit.
Good value for money, the hotel was pretty cheap compared to others and the rooms as well as the service were good. Everything was very clean and the room had a lot of light. There was also free parking, which wasnt the case with other hotels closer to the beach. The main downside of this hotel is that its not a walking distance from the beach, so a car or taxi is required whenever you want to hit the beach
The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. The only problem we had with the room was the noise from upstairs. The parking was a little tight and underground. The restraunt next door served delicious food and opens early. Quick and easy access to everything. Best to take the city transit, straight shot down Santa Monica Blvd to shopping, restraunts, and the beach.
This is definitely a very nice hotel to stay at if you are staying in Santa Monica! It might save you some $$$ rather than staying close to the beach. They have the Big Blue Bus that runs and it is only $1.00 each way - also a free shuttle from the hotel on weekdays only - you dont have to rent a car & pay for parking at the beach which can be from $10-$20! Rooms were clean & the IHOP restaurant has more choices than just a continental breakfast - you also receive a coupon for 20% off of your bill if you eat there. Early morning room service is also available if you dont want to fight the crowds if they happen to be booked for that night! Would recommend this hotel to everyone!
Gateway Hotel Santa Monica is a good, practical option that checks most of the boxes. Front desk staff are helpful and the hotel and rooms are clean. Bed is comfortable, no complaints about the bathroom, and air conditioner is great in the constant fan mode. TV has plenty of channels (although the remote is laggy) and internet was good. The rooms are recently remodeled but not fancy. Breakfast was simple (mostly pastries) and parking was free. Id recommend this hotel to business travelers with a rental car looking for a value priced hotel.
This hotel was very nice - room large with good sized bathroom and counter space in the bathroom. Had problems with heating/air but it was fixed immediately. My only problem was the cost which seemed very high to me. My company made the arrangements and I was stuck - now waiting for my reimbursement. There is a new restaurant next door that was opening the last day of my stay. It is called Rudy and Hudsons - such nice people and the food was really great! Otherwise you have to walk a bit to get to food which I was exhausted after working all day and did not want to do. Ordering food over the internet was not a good experience for me here.
Underground parking, super clean rooms, and the staff is super nice and helpful. Very short drive, or long walk to the peir and about five minutes to venice beach. Didnt see any meat at the breakfast, but otherwise a very good selection of fruit, bagels, muffins and such. Will deffinately stay here again.5+ stars
Best customer service I’ve ever received at a hotel! Janeth went above and beyond to make my stay a great experience. Her tag said she was just a trainee, but with her professionalism it seemed like she could have been there for years. Good luck with your new career Janeth! It became evident that they either hire or train really well here as I had more positive interactions with employees. Although I wasn’t her customer, Andrea was also kind and friendly even though she didn’t have to even acknowledge me. Overall this was probably the most memorable hotel experience I’ve ever had and I travel extensively for work. I will definitely book with Gateway going forward whenever I get the chance. I highly recommend the same for anybody else looking for somewhere to stay in the area.
Clean, well positioned for middle of Santa Monica. Pleasant staff. Book direct for best deals and to get points. Special price if you are there for medical treatment nearby (we were). Free parking and very convenient accessible from several streets/alleys into hotel.. Came in fro 405 to I10 and then to Hotel. Less congested than via Wilshire Boulevard.
3 important things to me about the Gateway.1. Lovely fluffy towels2. Perfect location 20 min walk to pier 10 min walk to OBriens3. Harry Manager fantastic for anything you need and of course the exceptional Reception Staff. This is my third time staying at the Gateway, just fantastic.
I gave it 3 stars, only cause of the price.. Hotels have gotten ridiculous in cost. Its a bed and room to sleep in. Nothing more. It was clean, all the basic amenities and within walking distance of a handful of restaurants. The local neighborhood weirdos definitely roam the streets around there at night.
For the price, I expected much, much better. The area is just ok, the rooms are also just ok. Laughably, they give you two free water bittles in the room, with a sign advertising tthis generocity. For nearly $300 a night, you expect a nice room - this was no better than $60-100 rooms Ive been to elsewhere in coastal CA. The only actual issue was the room was dirty. The basics were clean, but if you looked aroud, it was in need of a deep clean.
Great Hotel ! Room was very clean , bed was very comfortable , and location was very good ! The pier was 15 min walk and lots of nice restraunts and bars just couple blocks away and also a mall . Parking was also free . I would highly recommend this and would stay here again for sure !
Talked to them on phone prior to visit. Was not familiar with Santa Monica area so asked how far walk was pier, beach etc and they told about 15 min walk. Got here was a 45 min walk....no pool, no guest laundry, no good service, 2 towels for 4 guests asked for more 3 times. Never brought more. Plus a 45$ tourist fee on top of 245$ room rate. 295$ is not worth a hotel with less accommodations than a 45$ motel room down the street.
We stayed on the 4th floor 3 nights. Vey comfortable king bed and pillows, quiet AC, nice amenities (shampoo, lotion, etc), 2 free water bottles first night, in room safe, coffeemaker with Wolfgang Puck coffee pods, outlets bedside and on desk and plenty of drawers and hanging space. Only 1 sink but the lighting is decent. My only wish would be for a makeup mirror!
Far from any important icon in Santa Monica and they dont provide a bus shuttle services. The breakfast is the worst I have ever eat ( i.e bad coffee, no eggs, nutella, the worst honey, no meat options etc) and the dinning room is poor. The reception is helpful, the cleaning is fair dont expect to clean the dust etc. No fitness club... Overall I would never come back.
Very close to the pier. No pool but again the pier is very close. They served breakfast and they had eggs and bacon!! Parking is easy since they have a garage. Ihop was closed when I went but restaurants are a walk away and lets face it, you are in California, the weather is great, enjoy the walk
Do no Go here. Manager at night Martin, is a condescending, rude ass. He would not accommodate a problem that was not my fault. Charged me more than price on Expedia. Was rude. Lied to me when saying the hotel that the planner booked was 4 miles down road when it was 7.5 hours away. SEVEN HOURS! He said that with a smile on his face. Even when on phone with customer service and the service rep said he should agree not to charge me again since best western is getting money he happpily declined. I had the rep on speaker asked where the hotel was and how far it was, she went on to say 7 hours away and I said not 4 miles and she said no 7 hours and he had no response. What an ass. Will never go back to another best western unless I am contacted and refunded .
Nice rooms, recently redone. Elevators from parking garage are locked at night so they force you to walk all the way around...even though the elevator also requires a hotel key to activate in the first place. I appreciate security but I dont really understand that one.
Its not a great hotel, but it is definitely a good, nice, clean hotel with friendlystaff. If you are doing anything at the UCLA Medical Plaza (like chemotherapy) then this is an awesome hotel...its directly across the street from the Plaza and w/in walking distance of several restaurants, a Whole Foods, a Walgreens, a bagel shop, and an Irish pub. And theres an IHOP on the property. There is a fridge but no microwave in the room, but the IHOP staff will heat stuff up for you. We will be staying here again.
I mean its a BW but even with that said. The room was comfortable, and up to date. Accessible parking; even for Santa Monica. Ihop is next door literally if ya would like breakfast. Its pretty close to the happening spot. An uber/lyft would be like $5 each way. Easier than driving and parking.
No internet.I booked this hotel for a 4 day business trip and the internet only worked the first day.I called support several times and was put on hold for over 20 minutes each time. The only places I could get any internet was in the hallways. Horrible service and do not recommend for business travel!
Clean comfy hotel located right on the famous Santa Monica Blvd. Parking is free with plenty spaces which is rare in a beach town. No free breakfast but we ate at the IHOP on site. Easy access to beaches, boutiques in Abbot Kinney of Venice, Beverly Hills, Museum Row, and the quaint Japantown on Sawtelle Blvd with its awesome Ramen joints.

2022-06-20A nice little gem. I was visiting the area and in search of a quality and affordable stay for my brief trip. I was very pleased with how clean and presentable this hotel was. My room was immaculate, they have different sun decks to relax on and some great lighting that makes you feel at home. I will be back next time Im in town.

2022-04-26Positive: The best thing about this hotel was its location in Santa Monica; a quick drive away from the beach/Third Street Promenade. I also really liked that room was cleaned daily, and the shower pressure was great. Yogurt was free in the mornings. Negative: Parking was $16.50 daily for guests and the hotel had very minimal amenities. I also didnt like how the hotel kept charging my credit card nominal amounts during my stay to ensure available funds for my entire stay - not a customer friendly policy.

2022-04-16This hotel is located on Santa Monica Boulevard but is 20 blocks (a 30 minutes walk) from the Pier. The walk isn’t attractive either, as it’s dominated by car sales rooms.Breakfast is a sugar-packed ‘grab bag’, due to the hotel’s interpretation of COVID-19 restrictions (which are the most draconian of all the Californian hotels visited). The room was quiet, large, and well-appointed. The Receptionist was really friendly and helpful. The underground car park ($15 per night) was well worth it but the overall cost of the room was high.Enjoyed the restaurant and service next door (thanks, Rodrigo). Overall I’d rate it as 3-star ‘average’.

2022-04-17Rooms are clean and looks freshly refurbished. Cleaning and service are good. Location is in distance from the beach, but you can take a bus or ride rental scooter near the hotel. It would be perfect for family vacation if theyd have microvawe in the room

2022-02-01If you need to go to UCLA for any medical appointments, this is the place to stay. They give you a reduced medical rate, super friendly and accommodating staff that went above and beyond. Easy 10 minute walk to doctors offices, lovely restaurant next door to hotel, underground parking and super clean rooms.

2022-02-28Location for this hotel is amazing, close enough to walk to downtown Santa Monica, the pier and the beach. Tons of cafes and restaurants near by and the neighborhood is safe to walk around in. The rooms were clean and the staff was to friendly and helpful, they went our of their way to help us check in early and check out a little later.

2021-11-22Stayed at the Gateway Hotel Santa Monica the third week of November for a business trip. Overall, not a bad hotel if staying for a short period of time and for the convenience of being in the centre of Santa Monica. The front desk was great and carried all sorts of toiletries (forgot some of ours!)They also offered a free grab and go breakfast before 9:30 am, but we didn’t get a chance to try.Hotel room was quite clean and bathroom seemed newly updated. However, there were some downsides to staying at this hotel. The room perhaps was overly clean, as the sheets and room overall had a very strong chlorine/cleaning product scent. The walls are incredibly thin so I was woken up quite a few times by either outside noise, or noise from nearby rooms being cleaned, or construction noises. There seemed to be some construction noises during our stay, as we heard loud banging noises from upstairs throughout the day. Could have also sounded like scrubbing of a bathtub, but overall woke me up quite a few times. There is also a restaurant right under the hotel, which also adds to the noisiness in the area.Still rate this hotel a 3/5 since it is in a very convenient location for a short stay, was clean, and had all the basic necessities.

2022-01-01Overall a very good stay. The staff were kind and helpful and happy. The bedsheet we had was however threadbare and unraveling at its top edge and the phone to page the front desk (which you have to do if you need most of the basic stuff like coffee cups for your little machine and the like- makes sense, its a good practice for COVID) was filthy.. It had not been cleaned or wiped down in who knows how long, (there was someone elses hair in the phone base along with a buildup of dust and who knows what else) which made the whole thing uncomfortable and feel super counter productive. Again, everyone who we interacted with there was wonderful and left these down sides feeling like honest mistakes as aposed to corner cutting.

2021-10-27This is very nice, clean hotel close to most everything in Santa Monica. The price per night is very reasonable for a hotel in this area. Along with that is the fact that there are no 5 star amenities here and the rooms are big, comfortable, the beds are comfortable, and the linens are good quality. The furnishings are just OK, but good quality and the flooring and fixtures are adequate but not top of the line. If you are in the need of coffee, room guide, tv guide, etc., They are not in the room but only a phone call or trip to the front desk and they are provided no charge. A nice touch is a refrigerator in the room and 2 bottles of water are complimentary. The staff are very friendly, and parking underground has never been an issue. This is a very nice hotel with a restaurant on site. Would recommend this as a reasonable place to stay if visiting UCLA medical or the pier. You will not be disappointed.
