It seems like its getting rarer and rarer to come across a true throwback these days...somewhere where customer service is still paramount and you feel like the most important customer in the room (even though youre probably not)...somewhere where the owner comes down to meet you (which he did). That place is the Framers Workshop in Berkeley.I was in a rush last week to have an award framed for another one of the partners at our law firm and needed to find something on the fly that was really nice and available immediately. I heard about the Framers Workshop from a colleague who had their conference room framing done with them. I came in right before they closed not certain what to expect, but Jeffrey (co-owner) was kind enough to stay and work with me past closing and not only helped me pick out a great hand-finished frame that they still had in stock, but asked his custom framer to stay around long enough to cut and join it right there so I could pick up the finished piece first thing in the morning.Truly a great experience and I will most definitely be back with some things for our house and highly recommend them for office projects as well!
I just came back from visiting Petes and I am most impressed by the kind service rendered to me by Rose. She not only found the little parts I needed but also installed them, then adjusted the frame to its right shape for me, all gratis. Petes, you have enlisted a future customer for good!!!
Could not have asked for a better experience. My framed golf Flag looks great! I would certainly recommend them for sports memorabilia and look forward to getting other custom framing in the future.
Best place for really fine and long lasting frame related presents, plus the most attentive staff with plenty of knowledge of art handling and framing. It certainly is a nice and inviting space in downtown Berkeley.
EXTREMELY helpful and kind in walking you through their many options. Patience is a must in this job and they were very accommodating.

2019-10-21I would give 10 stars if I could! The staff exhibited phenomenal attention to detail, creativity, and genuine kindness. I came in on a Saturday afternoon with plans to get a very simple frame for a print that was in a yellowing plastic jacket. My expectations were knocked out of the park. The framing specialists were so sweet, conversational, and patient. I dont know the gentlemans name who helped me (pictured below) but he was awesome. I am very pleased with the result and will be back!

2021-01-30Framing is always a bit of a hit to the wallet, but I know when I come here that the work is going to be top notch. Staff have also been super helpful. Theyve got an eye for what would complement whatever youre trying to frame. Theyre not pushy or snobby about their recommendations and it feels like a two way conversation. If you want something you treasure framed beautifully, there is really no better option than this shop.

2021-01-31Framers Workshop is the paragon of local business excellence, customer service and attention to detail. We had a framed piece from 20 years ago that we were looking to match with two other frames. They found frames and matting that matched the original piece perfectly, worked with us to get it into a budget that felt reasonable, and later found remnant museum glass (that was much more expensive, so we decided against it) to match the original piece. Their attention to detail and thoughtfulness was striking, and so appreciated!

2018-12-30We love this frame shop because of their first class service and awesome selection guided by very experienced staff. They really have everything from a large selection of custom framing materials for every budget to a ready made frame shop right next door. We take our most valuable artwork there as well as more casual projects. Mike, their printer, does all our photo printing with great care. He doesnt just print the file as is, but really takes time to adjust files so that they are as good as they can be before printing. If you want to, he will let you sit with him while he makes adjustments right on the screen. Good prices for all budgets and caring people who work there.

2014-09-16This is THE best framing shop in the bay area. I especially like their Outlet store that is connected to their shop. They opened it last year. It is full of ready made frames that they make from leftover framing material from their custom framing process. The prices are good for what you get--help to install your art in the frame with mats cut while you wait. I have also used their main store for custom framing, and the quality and selection are awesome. But the bed thing is the people that work there. They really care about what you are working on and they know their stuff. It doesnt seem to make a difference if you are spending a lot on a custom frame or you are putting a photo in one of their ready made frames. They still give you the same attention and help. Five stars.

2018-05-07Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Framers has the largest selection of frames and matting that Ive ever seen in a store. Its called a workshop because they actually help you assemble your frame and matt, if you prefer. I also love that the music playing in the store, is always good.

2018-05-12Ashley, the young woman working the front was extremely painful to work with and was not helpful at all. Every interaction with her was overshadowed by attitude and painful to endure.I came into this place hoping for the friendly and supportive tone Id first met on the phone when Sarah had answered. Unfortunately Sarah was on her lunch break as I think I would have had a great experience with her. Even Ashleys co-workers seemed uneasy around her curt responses to their questions and offering of assistance.The whole thing left me unsatisfied both with her rude patronizing tone and the quality of her work. The reassembly of my paintings showed an almost intentional lack of consideration to my ability to take them home and hang them up. Instead this is just one more thing for me to redo today.It unfortunately was a waste of my time and money. I had wanted the benefit of helpful staff but would have been better off ordering the materials myself off Amazon.

They have both off the shelf frames (a whole store full) and imaginative custom framing with the largest selection I have seen. Thanks to Lee for taking the time to create the perfect design for my etching. I will be back.
