Rented a car. Paid on full for 7 days. Returned in 6 days. Still paid for 7. Also was charged an extra $20 because I returned a day early. Not to mention a huge line and slow service when I picked the car up. Will never use them again, not matter how much cheaper the price is. Also said I had to get their insurance.
Was driving from San Diego to Texas and the car overheated and broke down in Arizona. Had to wait until the following day for a vehicle replacement to be delivered. I am in the military and constantly travel and rent cars from the San Diego airport Ive never had a problem with any other car agency.
Be careful at the check-out. In California (as with several other states) the quoted rental cost does not include daily charge of liability insurance.A staff at the desk will try to add this (about $12 per day) to your original rental quote and, very likely, will not explain to you that you have an option to decline this purchase.Once you accept this liability coverage, you wont be able to change this purchase choice unless the staff is kind enough to back-track and change yes to no. The staff (in my case) refused to change it and threatened not to rent the car if I refuse to move ahead!Later I learned that this is just one of numerous tricks that FOX rental employs in order to trick-sell more unnecessary products to the customers..This is the first time that I rented a car from FOX and I have never been tricked for the past 30 years by other rental companies in this way. So, be careful, extra alert and fully informed when you deal with this rental company.
Rented a car from them back in June through Expedia and purchased the insurance that Expedia offered. Fast forward to the day of pick up, and the lady at the front desk starts to tell me that I need an additional insurance from Fox or else I cant take the car. I was dumbfounded because I had already paid for insurance! I needed that car so I felt forced to pay the additional fee for the additional insurance.Before leaving the location, I asked the lady if I was now FULLY COVERED and she said yes. Fine whatever, at least I am fully covered. Once I am on the road, a rock crashed into my windshield and cracks it. Its ok, I thought, since I am fully covered. I wasnt!I had to pay $600 for this damage even though I was fully covered all because of miscommunication on their end. Never renting from this company again and I would advise you dont either. This whole process just felt like a scam.
Avoid at all costs - low price to draw you in, then increase when you have no choice with spurious charges. Complete scam, aggressive upsell, unpleasant and dishonest approach to car rental. Use anyone else if you want to avoid the headline price doubling when you collect car.

2022-03-21Im a little torn here. Rented the car through booking.com. The customer service agent to procedure. However, she clearly lied to us about gas prices, trying to sell their refuel option. Which I took at that point... Finally, rented a car seat. Now, the car itself was great, pretty much brand new. The car seat was terrible and i was afraid for my kid in it. Stopped at Target to buy one. Now to the gas prices: i realized quickly that she had exaggerated gas prices by more than $2 to make their option sound worth it. It wasnt, of course. I paid $60 for gas, with their option it would have been $93. I called customer service and within a few minutes cancelled the fuel option and told them about the car seat. They made a note in my file and at drop-off i briefly talked to the general manager and those two charges were taken off the account. Overall not a bad experience, but with a couple not so great moments that ended up creating more work for me. Oh, the car seat i bought at Target ended up being cheaper (on sale) than the price for the rental car seat...

2022-05-20We had a great experience. We walked in, went right through, got someone immediately, and he was awesome. Shawn was the best -- he was awesome, gave us what we needed, and was even nice enough to upgrade our car because it was our first time using Fox! Would highly recommend over the other rental places.

2022-08-20DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT A HEADACHE.Weve booked our trip to San Diego back in February and made reservation on February 8. Weve paid $434 for 8days. On Aug 8 at 23:00 when weve arrived at the pick up location they told us that we need to have international driving license so they can deliver the car,even though we both are Canadians and have Canadian driving license. We explained that that information is not on their website and their response was that the info is on the Terms and conditions. I asked who reads terms and conditions, they respond was we cant help you. At 23:00 with the kids weve been left without car on this pickup area. We headed to Avis and they gave us a car without asking a question. We ended up paying $300 more for reservation.

2022-03-31Rented car in San Diego. I was asked if I wanted to lock in the pre-paid fuel option at $5.75 per gallon since gas in CA was well over $6/gal. I was told I needed to bring the car back with 1/2 tank of gas and they would take care of the rest. I did exactly that and they charged me to fill up the entire tank for $84. When I contacted customer service and explained that I should only be charged for 1/2 tank, they said fuel is non refundable and we dont owe you anything Total money grab and terrible customer service. This was my first and last experience with Fox Rental Car

2022-04-04If I could leave no stars I would. I booked through Expedia. My flight was cancelled so I rebooked for the next day. I forgot to call and change my car rental dates. I didnt care to pay for the extra day but my flight was now going from late the night before until early the next morning. I asked to change my pickup time and was told I had to cancel and rebook. The prices were almost double. They gave up an 8 day rental because I would be there 2 hours later than the allowed time they allow for pickup. I canceled and rented with Hertz for the same original price that I had booked with this sorry company.

2022-06-05Reserved a car and paid in full!!! Got to the location after a very long and late flight, they gave our reservation to someone else and got a very rude person telling us she wants to go home and not deal with us. No cars left she said.

2022-03-29My flight was delayed so I got to San Diego 3 hours late. When I got there they told me they no longer had my vehicle because I was late. They then told me they could get me into a sedan (I had an SUV) for $300 MORE than what I had originally paid.Never again.

2021-12-29Rented a car through this company via Priceline. After a 6 hour flight, exhausted, I land, just wanting to get to my airbnb. The guy tells me sorry, we dont have any cars available. Citing some bs about the reservation not being made 24 hours in advance. (well then why did they accept and not cancel the reservation?). What they basically did was rent my car to another customer who was willing to pay more, before i got there. To add insult to injury, this guy then tries to work something out - says they may have something coming in, tries hard to upsell me on insurance (like ive never rented a car before), I say no thanks, and then magically this new car will cost me DOUBLE what the cost of my original reservation was.This is a horrible company with no accountability and god-awful creepy cheap sales tactics. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
