Ok... So we were not expecting an almost 5 mile hike from parking lot to the actual Dripping Cave. Also, their are not enough visible maps on the trail to help you guide yourself. Many moms with stollers which would be a good workout, but it was also fairly hot at this time of year. Would definitely do again, maybe seeing something different, next time Ill be better prepared with snacks and water.
This Trail is best after a rain however they close the trail after a rain in order to save us from ourselves so 1 star would indicate driving out here to something reported as being open only to find that they have a special agent Sentry preventing you from experiencing the hike

2022-05-19Saturday hike in Laguna. Parked up on Alta Laguna Pkwy by Alta Laguna Park. Entered the trail system by the park near Top of the world. Hiked down to Mathis Canyon Trail to the Junction where Car Wreck Trail Starts at the Top. Hiked down Car Wreck Trail to the end where it intersects back with Mathis Canyon at the Bottom. Turned right and stayed on Mathis Canyon to Woods Canyon Trail made a right turn on woods canyon trail to dripping cave trail. Took dripping cave trail to dripping cave. Dripping cave trail is an in and out only trail right now as the shortcut trail from dripping cave to Mathis canyon is closed. Went back out of dripping cave the way I came in. Made a Left back on to woods canyon. Made a Left at Mathis canyon. Then the long incline ascent up Mathis all the way back up to Top of the world. Both Car Wreck and Mathis have a degree of difficulty. Car Wreck more than Mathis. I believe this is about a 9 mile hike.I would not recommend this particular route in either direction for beginners or novices. This is no Sunday stroll in the park. Some elements are a nice stroll, but getting to and from them are a work-out for sure, and only for the sure footed hiker. Beginners or people who aren’t used to climbing or descending steep rocky terrain or walking steep grades may struggle on this route.*Tip: Go down Car Wreck and up Mathis instead of down Mathis and up Car Wreck if you’re not ready for a steep rocky climb up. The climb up Car Wreck is much more difficult than the climb up Mathis. If you want to up the degree of difficulty and work out harder, take these instructions and reverse them.

2021-11-07This was a great easy hike! Great for all levels. The weather was cloudy and a little bit of hazy. The sun ended up breaking thru later on. I arrived around 9am. There was still several parking spots open. Parking is $3 dollars. We stopped at Cave Rock also. I logged in a total of 4.51 miles on my Garmin. Happy hiking!

2022-05-02Fun trail, the loop trail was closed but you can still get to the caves. Lots of bikes on the trail but everyone seems accommodating to share the trail. Take the Cave Rock loop to see the smaller caves. If you are quiet while on the trail you might see the deer too!!!

2018-04-28There are many entrances to the trail. Lots of levels of trails around here. I didnt find dripping cave trail until I was headed back. I love trails where the certain stops along the way tell a story more than anything. There was a old little cattle coral and the direct trail to dripping cave was super inspirational. The walls along and burnt top really makes you imagine how people spent time 100+ years ago.

2022-06-26Not much shade until you get close to the cave. But the cave was unique and a fun hike

2018-10-02The trail is still closed due to fire rehabilitation. Its an easy trail and cell reception is almost constant. Bring water and sunscreen as there isnt much shade.

2017-12-09It was a nice hike. I think it would of been better to go after it has rained.

2021-05-25Nice flat hike with interesting destination. The way to make this hike as short as possible is to enter from Crimson Canyon off of Oak View Dr (and park on Oak View Dr) but Crimson Canyon is a gated community so youll have to wait for a car to go in or out to access the trailhead. Another alternative to the park HQ is to park at Canyon View park.

2017-07-08Started the hike from Alta Laguna and descended to the cave. Not a bad hike but the ascent on the hike back can be tough, esp. in the heat. Carry lots of water and stay hydrated.
