Under no circumstance should you consider renting a car through this company. This business is wholly deserving of a 0-star review.Check-in: Dollar sources the labor of Hertz employees to check-in/check-out their rental cars without anyone from Dollar there to assist in anyway. As a result, Dollar customers are placed in longer lines than Hertz customers, who were serviced relatively quickly for such a busy day. It took over 90 minutes from the moment I stood in line until I was helped by an employee (a Hertz employee, nonetheless). That Dollar didn’t recognize how many reservations existed on the day I went to rent my car and ensure they had employees there to assist speaks to the incompetence of the management at this location or probably the company writ large.Rental: A baseball-sized bubble formed in one of my tires while I was renting the car. I was in a limited cell service environment and needed the car tire replaced or a new car immediately because it was a necessity to have a four-wheel capable car due to my line of work. I was on hold for over two hours with Dollar emergency services the night I noticed the irregularity in my tire before losing connection due to my location. The next morning I attempted to call the emergency line again and got through to an employee who informed me I would be required to fix the issue myself by finding and paying a mechanics shop to replace the tire. This employee ensured me I would be reimbursed, but the more important issue here is that Dollar emergency service was okay with me driving an unsafe vehicle because I was in an inconvenient location they didn’t want to come service. So I call the general number to Dollar to see if I can have a vehicle sent from the nearest location and was told again that I would have to drive over an hour in an unsafe vehicle to the nearest Dollar and hope they had a car I could use. When I asked what the direct number was to this location to ensure I wasn’t placing myself in danger and then not even get the car replaced, the customer service rep told me that Dollar does not have direct numbers to any of their locations. This is unbelievable. This service rep was either lying or Dollar is again a grossly mismanaged company.I again tried to contact emergency services, having decided to foot the bill upfront and get the tire replaced rather than risk driving to the nearest Dollar only to wait in a several-hours long line only to be told they didn’t have a car for me. Each time I reached a representative, I explained that I was already in contact with emergency services, was in a state of vehicle emergency for nearly 24 hours and that I simply needed an email stating I would be reimbursed for the costs of tire replacement or a ticket number that I could reference upon return of the car. Each rep listened (but not actively or sincerely), told me I would have to wait on hold and then placed me on hold for over an hour each time. I explained I was in a limited cell service environment but they didn’t care and I would lose service before reaching an emergency representative each time.Return: I decided to risk the drive home on the degraded tire and managed to make it home. Upon retiring the car, to a Hertz employee, the employee noticed the bubble and couldn’t believe it wasn’t fixed by Dollar immediately. I was lucky I got home safe and so was Dollar. This company doesn’t deserve your money and should not exist. The company culture is one of foregone responsibility. From the lack of Dollar employees available at their check-in/check-out counters to their customer service reps that actively pass your emergency off to two hour queue, this company is terrible. I even asked on several occasions to speak with emergency services management personnel and was told that management was unavailable to assist. When I asked for management’s name, number and/or email address, the rep would get noticeably nervous and not answer my questions. I hope that Dollar Rental Car is run out of business sooner than later.
Tips:1. The run a credit check on site for both debit and credit (soft pull)2. Deposit for credit card is $2003. Deposit for debit card is $5004. They will push you for credit and claim your debit is a fraudulent card5. The Dollar rent a car website and Dollar express DOES NOT do prepay even though it will be cheaper.6. Try Expedia for payments7. There is an unusual amount of fees other than tax that apply (added $150 onto ours and others)
Don’t rent with them. Spend a few extra bucks to avoid headaches. They overcharged me and sent me a receipt charge with someone else’s name but charged it to my credit card. After 5 phone calls asking for a supervisor, I finally get a call only to get hung up on. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
67 minute wait in line after a 35 minute wait on the rental shuttle (I know not Dollar’s responsibility for the shuttle). Several representatives standing around and not helping anyone in line. Dollar has really gone downhill in the past couple of years, but the military mandates using the cheapest rate.
This rental facility is the worst I have experienced in all my years of travel. Dollar has consistently rented mechanically damaged vehicles to myself and other co workers and recently charged me for gas when I returned their car filled. When I asked for a refund they said I agreed to it in the rental agreement when I will not provide a refund. This is a deceptive sales practice. STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION.
Check in was easy, no line. Car selection is decent. The car I chose was brand new, however it came with exterior damage on the gas tank cover. Also there was no trunk cover for the back so everything was visible. I am disappointed due to a promotion (10% off) not being honored because I extended one day for my rental due to my flight being cancelled. When speaking to customer service, the verbiage was sketchy and inaccurate. They were not able to refund the original promotion and the reasoning given was due to changes to my reservation. They did offer a $25 gift card, though I have no use for it since I do not intend on using Dollar Car Rental again. Company policy is not only bogus but dishonest. I was over charged and clearly taken advantage of as a customer. As a AAA member you get a free car seat, to ensure I get this deal, I put in my AAA card member number when making the reservation online and also physically showed it when picking up the car, yet I still was charged for it.Although, I was able to get a refund for the car seat, I was not able to on the promotion. I’m frustrated because I spent an hour with customer service fixing a problem that was easily preventable. Really unnecessary, in addition, the Dollar Car Rental app is not useable so don’t waste your time downloading. All in all, you do get what you pay for.Dollar quality customer service.
Received excellent service as Dollar Express Member. I rented a Dodge RAM pickup for my vacation from San Diego Intl Airport. Pickup and return went smooth without any hassle or paperwork. Car was not ready, but I arrived early and within 15 minutes I received my keys (which was still earlier that my reserved pickup time). Price was exactly what was mentioned while booking. Overall, great service and satisfaction!
Rented a Jeep Wrangler for a few days to drive around San Diego. Booked online a week prior to the trip. The staff at the desk was fast and friendly. Jeep was fully loaded with all options and ready when we got there. Returning took 2 minutes and we were on our way. Military discount made it a decent deal. Will definitely check Dollar first when we travel.
Beware of all the additional fees. I reserved and paid for our reservation online. My husband went and picked the car up and with all the additional add ons that they updated making it seem like it wasn’t optional we walked away with a 60% increase in our rental. When I tried to call customer service immediately I was told they couldn’t do anything over the phone. He was dropping the car off to catch a flight and was not able to talk to anyone in person. I called 2 more times asking to be transferred to a supervisor only to be hung up on. Will find a company with more ethical practices and better customer service for future business.
The car we rented smelled a little like weed, but we figured since THEY had it in rotation in their fleet, they must not care. It wasnt enough to bother us, so we went on our way. Now we are being charged almost $500 in a cleaning fee for something we didnt do! So, either we are paying for someone elses fun or they are charging multiple customers hundreds of dollars for cleaning - either way, its disgusting. That is not a small chunk of change and is shows a lack of professionalism and care to be so lais·sez-faire. We will absolutely never, ever rent from Dollar again. What bs.
I truly wish I could post 0 stars for them. We recently rented with them and had to go through tolls in the Washington DC area. Appartently Washington DC is in the stone age and the only cash they accept is coins (for a $3.25 toll???). Regardless, we had the cash to pay it but couldnt because we didnt have the coins. They also accept EZPass, which...turns out...our car had! The staff at Dollar NEVER informed us that we had this in our car. Now, about $10 in tolls has somehow turned into almost $100 in fees! We tried to be proactive and call them to pay it ahead of time. Nope, had to wait for them to gouge us with an insane amount of fees. Possibly the worst customer service Ive ever experienced. I expect to be reached out by a manager to resolve this. We had an EZPass you never told us about and no we are paying an insane amount of money because of your failure to mention this to us at the time we picked up our car.
I rented a car via Travelocity and that put me through to Dollar. The best rate was the managers special which (go figure) was the economy car. A Toyota Yaris which was new and just washed. The overall experience was a good one. Easy in and easy out with no surprises or hassles. The staff was friendly and helpful and they didnt press too hard for the usual car rental upsells.Would rent from them again when in the area.
Still waiting in line to pick up my rental car after an hour and a half. Every other car rental place has no line but Dollar and Thrify lines are out the door backed up to the shuttle bus area. And I’ve already pre checked in. This is poor service and I will choose to take my biz elsewhere in the future. I know my little one review won’t have impact, but you as a company should not be proud of my experience.
Terrible service, nightmare experience.Disputed the charge with my credit card company and they indicated that they will contact them and they have 30 days to respond and credit card company to make a final decision. Of course dollar rental never responded to them and my card was refunded. I was out of town and Surprisingly they sent a bill directly to me and when called today was told the account has been sent to collection 🤦🏽♀️. Waiting to hear from a supervisor and the very nice person on the phone indicated that it maybe at least 24 hrs for a call back ? This is nothing short of lies and deception as they had an option to responded to the credit card company’s dispute.
On orders, the government booked my rental (20th of Feb-23 of Apr) so I had no choice but initially everything was fine they were very helpful until 22Mar2021. The battery in the car remote died so I went to the rental company just to see if they could change out the battery in the key. They forced me to get a whole new rental and charged me for the car not being “returned” with a full tank of gas ($59.44 for a tank I was filling for literally $28-$30 but I understand). I took note and said I would just let it be. I had a death in my family that caused me to take emergency leave but I ensure I filled the tank at the Shell on Pacific Hwy (1.2 miles away from one another) and I returned the car 16Apr21 at 8:08pm with 271 miles til E. I just received the receipt 19Apr and once again getting charged $59.44 for gas. Called the 800/866 number to get an answer of why and literally sat on hold for 38 min and 40 seconds for them to say the only way they can reimburse me is if they email the manager of San Diego dollar location and the manager says it’s okay. The 1st car was great. It got me from point A to point B but the 2nd car (Nissian Versa) radio would reset if I changed the song playing more than 3 times in a row which was frustrating but I dealt with it cause it was only for a month. Hopefully this doesn’t happen to anyone else. If you are military and SATO booked the reservation for you please ensure you are going to SATOs website to complain as well so they can stop forcing us to give this company our business.
Trying to reach someone by phone who can comprehend what your saying or asking. This just was the worst customer service. Hertz there main company couldnt meet my need at the time so they patched me through to there other company. I tried to get a refund on a portion of my rental because I had filled up the car plus prepaid a fuel surcharge come on fair is fair you would think but oh well live and learn just be aware of who your working with 👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿 to Dollar Rentals not again!
Rented using the Dollar Express service, was super easy to walk right to the car and just as easy at drop off. The shuttle to the rental car center was easy to use and quick both ways. After reading some horrible reviews of other rental agencies in San Diego I am so glad I went outside of Hotwire and picked this company!! Definitely worth a couple extra bucks for such an easy process!
Rented a car from Dollar in Arizona and went to Dollar in San Diego for assistance. The staff was professional, friendly, efficient, and went above and beyond to provide excellent service. No questions asked. A man by the name of Will in particular went above and beyond the call of duty to help me. He deserves a raise and a gets a huge thank you from me.
Spent my first 2 hours in San Diego waiting for the combined Thrifty/Dollar desk. There were 2 people working the entire time. After you get past the desk, that’s just the beginning of your problems. The garage is a disorganized mess and none of the employees (if you can find one) have any idea what the vehicle count is. I was told to guess what vehicle was the right size and they’d tell me at the exit if it was wrong. There is also an insane line at the exit. Shocking! However much extra a different company is, it’s worth it.
DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!! Please look at your contract before signing, they will add options without asking... dont trust them look at everything even if they ask you and you decline make sure you check. They added prepaid fuel charges to a group of military people renting from them... we all declined and they still added and charged us at the end even though we all brought the cars back on full. Better companies out there to rent from.
This was the worst experience I have ever had with a car rental company. They not only overcharged me, but when I called (multiple times) to get clarification on my refund, I was told multiple stories, hung up on, and no one was on the same page. I was also charged extra for gas even though the tank was filled up when I returned it. Simply unethical, bad service. This is the worst service I have experienced on a professional level from a company. I will never work with them again and I wouldnt recommend them to anyone.
This was the best car rental experience Ive had! Shuttle took me straight to the car rental area. Each vendor had their own office rather than all being in the same space. Made for a much more quiet conversation. Was nice to be able to choose my own car from the category I rented. Staff was so friendly and helpful! Return was super easy. Lots of smiles! Looking forward to another trip to my beloved San Diego, and Ill definitely go with Dollar again!
I rented a Buick SUV to drive to Oklahoma from San Diego. The car was clean, etc. It all checked out. Soon after we began our trip the Add Oil light came on. Soon right after that, the change oil soon canned on. After the car engine was cool we checked it and it needed a full quart of synthetic oil. The heat temperature never changed from normal the whole trip and thats important. On our final approach home, the car loses power. Top speed was 35mph. No help the entire way from Dollars Emergency Roadside Assistance until we got home and the had to the it away. Its been going on two weeks and I STILL cant reach Customer Support for this!Ive sent emails, called and been on hold for a long time before Im cut off.The desk clerks were amazing... THATS IT! Im so upset that I cant seem to get anything done. The car was towed in a day early from our reservation. I also have a $10 receipt for oil.Im so unhappy with this company and I will never use them again! Why would they rent out a vehicle low on oil in the first place? The oil wasnt even the problem with the power lost. The oil measured PERFECT when it was towed.
I could not have been happier with my experience. I was nervous because this was my first time renting a car on my own, but I have witnessed plenty of car rental experiences gone wrong when traveling with friends and family. Before my trip I signed up for the Dollar Express program and am glad I did. When I showed up they had everything ready to go for me. No high pressure sales. I was in and out of the office in 5 minutes. The car I picked was in great condition. Returning the car was simple and straightforward. The man who chexked me in was so friendly. And then best part is that I was only charged what I was quoted originally. Great experience. Dollar has definitely earned my loyalty.
The car was new and clean and ran well. The only thing that frustrated us was that they dont tell you what the underage driver fee is until you check in at which point you are pretty well committed or you dont have a car for the trip. Our fee was was almost as much as the base rental price. Obviously that fee is non refundable even if the car is returned in top condition.I do appreciate being able to use a debit card to rent cars!
Get ready to spend the first day of your trip in line. 2 desks open, not nearly able to handle the necessary capacity. Computer problems left and right to boot. Theyve combined three different rental car companies into one location but dont even have the staffing for one.
Dont rent a car there! Worst customer experience ever. When picking up our car, the ladies at the desk were apparently more busy joking around with each other than offering us good service and information. The car we got had a bad navigation system in there, the front left tire was missing air and the windshield wipers were completely worn down, to a point were driving in heavy rain was almost impossible. We only noticed all this after a couple of days, otherwise we would have complained right away.To top all that: When we returned the car, the service guy was super unfriendly and told us that the car smelled like smoke and that we would have to pay a 300$ fine, which, of course, we declined to do, since we are both non smokers and not a single cigarette was smoked in there during our trip. Also, the front desk ladies accidentally put a portable GPS on the bill, which we never got, since the GPS was mounted, which caused extra confusion when returning. All in all a terrible experience. You have lost us as a customer. We will never rent a car at Dollar again!
Horrible customer service. I made a reservation for 2 days and was quoted $98. Then i needed to add a day to the beginning of the reservation and they wanted $311 for the reservation. The day rate for the day i was adding was only $80 so i asked why Im being charged $213 extra dollars when the going rate for the additional day is only $80. They just kept repeating reservation prices are based on car availability. so if i wanted to add a day i would have to pay the new going rate for every day i wanted the car even though i was already guaranteed a lower price for the original 2 days. I talked to managers and their customer service department, none of which were helpful. I made a new reservation with a different company, i will not give dollar rent a car my money. I would recommend using any other car rental company than dollar. They are not helpful or understanding. Very difficult to deal with and their prices are equivalent to many other car companies so save yourself the trouble and use a different company.
Unfortunately I had no choice but to give this a one star because they deserve 0. I made our rental here 3 months in advance. There was a “pay now option” which would secure our rental. Since we had a party of 8 we decided to do the pay now and we paid $362 and then I received an email saying we would pay the remaining $162 at pick up. Also the fine print said a $200 security deposit is due at the time of rental on a major credit card which was fine. Our vacation comes around and we landed at 11:00pm and went to get our rental. When we arrived the lady at the desk was very unwelcoming and rude. We had our $200 deposit ready and the $160 for the remainder of the car. The final invoice she handed us asked for an additional $500!! When we asked her to explain why there were so many charges she did not help at all! She did not explain any of the additional charges and didn’t care about us. I guess on top of the $160 they wanted us to pay airport fees and a bunch of other fees. So why say my total due at pick up is $160 if there’s more charges? Anyway, we decided to go through a different company because they were very unpleasant. The lady told me she cancelled the reservation and I can call customer service to get my money back. Well after calling for the last week and being transferred to 15 different people I still don’t have my money. These people are thieves! Stay far away. Their online prices seem great until they get you at the rental place! I am going to keep fighting for my money back until I receive it!
Initially the pickup of our dollar vehicle was challenging, we paid for a mid size and in the mid size section of cars there compact cars so we had to go back three times to get the correct car. Fred at the checkout station felt terrible we swung around three times he gave us a free tank of gas! The car did us well on our trip! And the return was very easy! Highly suggest dollar, very good customer service
I personally had a terrible experience. I had put both mine, and my moms info into the system when I booked the car. When we got there, we were told since I paid for the car with my card she couldn’t be the driver therefor charging me extra money (because of my age) A little irritated agreed to pay the extra, they asked for my card for the deposit. Card reader won’t read my card (not blaming them necessarily) but they had NO other means of letting us pay the deposit. Couldn’t type my info in manually, no pre paid cards, no cash. Nothing. Best advice was to “try somewhere else” at 1030 @ night in a totally foreign town where my rental car was supposed to be set up. Now I’m “trying somewhere else.” I’m very disappointed with my experience at dollar. 👎🏼
The good part is that they gave me a larger car that the one I rented because they did not have the one I rented , the bad part is that my rental was $564 and after 1 day of returning my car my CC was charged hidden fees of $179 that I did not know about , this is like 30% extra over my budget
Originally I wrote a great review for their customer service. However, today I am posting a negative experience in hopes it will help others. If you rent a car from them in NY, do not cross over the bridges going over the South Grand Island bridge. It is a toll bridge but there is nowhere to pay for toll fees. It is done by ezpass or you get billed. If youre renting a car it goes to the rental company. Then they bill you. Plus their administrative fees to print the letter to you. In total, $32.00 for crossing over twice. Should have only been $2.00. When I called customer service, they reduced this bill by half. Still a rip off. Im not sure if there is any way to get around this, but felt everyone should be aware.
My experience with this Dollar Rent A Car has been very frustrating. When I first picked up my rental car from the San Diego Airport there was a huge line, which actually went down really fast. Which I give them props for being speedy. Its their Customer Service that is HORRIBLE. The agent I spoke to at the airport was friendly, but was misleading. He didnt fully give me any information and CHARGED me for fees without going over them with me first. Once I realized what was going on I explained to him that I didnt need the stuff he was charging me for and to remove, and make sure the money was placed back on my card. The agent - of course - tried to talk me into the adds ons. I still told him no. Once I left I received a phone call from my wife inquiring about a random extra charge the car rental place had made. I thought it was the charge I had the agent remove, but once I called I found out it was a deposit fee. I understand the point of a deposit fee, and completely agree with them. But fact is in this situation the agent DID NOT go over the deposit fee with me, or explain anything related to it. It was not authorized, nor on any of my paperwork for this deposit to be taken.I just called to extend my rental for another week, and the agent told me there would be another deposit fee charged to my card. I asked why there would be another deposit taken out when they had already taken one. It got silent on the phone, and then the woman helping me starting speaking to me with an attitude - and did not EXPLAIN the reason as to why. Once she was done speaking I simply stated that I still did not understand why they were taking another portion of money for a deposit when they already had taken it. She then - with an attitude- told me that since the total amount of money i am paying for the car is hire the deposit is 15% of that amount , which is why they had to take more out. That is the answer I needed from the start. As a paying customer that has already spent money on a car from this establishment for two weeks, I am completely frustrated and annoyed with the service I have been given. A simple explanation of everything should be done - with no attitude.
Pretty sad customer service. I rent a car from dollar twice a month. There was a mix up on a reservation. I had one and it didnt show. I figured no problem it could have been me or computer error. So I asked what will it cost to rent a car? The reply was that we dont take walk ins. I said thank you and you will never see my DOLLAR again. Went next door.....it was cheaper and better service. like I said pretty sad. It deserves 0 stars. Looks like someone should be looking at reviews. 3.5 stars and falling fast
I made reservations through a Southwest Airlines bundle was quoted approximately $250 was charged $600 for full coverage at the rental area. I negotiated it down to the minimum requirements and the price ended up at $360. The car was a nice mid size Hyundai Elantra. If they honored my quote Id give them 5 stars.
We rented a car in Birmingham Alabama on 07/12/18 and returned it 07/15/18.When we return the car we had a pleasant experience with john. He made us feel like we were the only people returning our vehicle on that day. He was a pleasure. I hope when we return another car we have John to greet us.Thanks Anthony
The absolute WORST service! We have been renting here for a year, never a big deal, reservation made by my boyfriend, we go in together, pay with my card and both are drivers on the car, always get the extra insurance and everything. We rent cars at least twice a month for little get aways and business trips. Well not this time, we were treated like adding myself to pay and as a driver was a crime. Told we had to make a new reservation and the rate we had wouldnt be the same it would be way more and then told if my boyfriend didnt have a credit card or debit card he couldnt even be added as a driver. The manager was rude and condescending (heavy set older man) His answer should have been Im sorry they were doing that in the past let me honor it this time and moving forward the policy changed however he gave no solution. And walked away when I said he was losing valuable customers he said in the rudest tone Im sorry you feel that way. At the check out gate we asked the attendant if we could add a driver which has been done before and he said they called me and told me not to add it for you, then he said I dont know what the issue is we do it all the time, the manager told him the policy changed but he said hes never seen a policy change. So this leads me to believe we were being discriminated against all of a sudden. Why? No one knows. I called corporate and no one knows they just know the policy. So after a year and then being treated like we were doing something wrong no answers no care no nothing. Not even a call back from corporate when I asked to speak to an area manager. HORRIBLE business dollar, and even worse service. Your competition had no problem giving us a better rate and adding both drivers. Sad to say theres still this kind of treatment in the service industry.
Excellent service! After being told by the salesman at Payless car rental to cancel my reservation because I didnt want to buy all their add-ons, I walked over to Dollar and was through the line in about 5 minutes. Great service, great price, great car! Even drop-off exceeded my expectations. Thank you!
Very friendly people, had a wide range of vehicles to choose from, ours was very clean, their biggest request was to return it full and not smoke in it. As a word of caution if you are going to rent a car, remember they place a minimum 350 dollar hold on whichever card you give them.
Customer service rep was rude and would not give me the option to decline insurance coverage. I have full coverage with State Farm and dont need to waste money on double insurance coverage. She charged my credit card for basic insurance coverage. Also I was asked if I wanted a car with Sirius/XM. I said yes. There was only one car to choose from in the parking lot and the Sirius/XM was not activated. Another $100 flushed down the toilet.Stay away from this company and tell Dave Ramsey to stick it where the sun dont shine.
This place is awful. We were given several different rates via online and over the phone, then once we arrived they charged us over any of the estimated prices we received. We’re under 25 yo so the additional fees for such were anticipated. All of that can be handled, however when approached by one of the women working there, we informed her of what the manager, Josh, told us (that we could return to car with close to an empty tank due to our troubles prior to renting the vehicle) she stated “we never allow you to return the vehicle on empty”, as if we were trying to lie to her. When the manager was around she was polite and did as we requested, but the moment he walked away her attitude skyrocketed, her service became piss poor, and she rolled her eyes as we said “thank you” and left. This place was horrendous from start to finish. Would NOT recommend.
I pre-paid for my rental online. When I arrived to the San Diego office, they told me they were unable to rent me the vehicle because the information on my receipt was expired. After 60+ mins, I agreed to pay for a second rental car, at my expense, hoping that the online company would refund my original payment. Since then, I have spent the past couple of weeks seeking a refund, but the online company continues to explain that they have not received confirmation from Dollar Rental in San Diego that they were unable to rent you your original vehicle. I have reached out to the manager over phone and via email with no response.
My wife attempted to get a rental car from this place but was denied because of her recent name change, so her ID and Credit Cards didnt match. She then offered to show them an older expired ID that had the same picture as her new one with her old name, and they didnt accept that. Afterwards She offered to get them the marriage certificate to prove the name change, and they didnt want that either. This went on for another 30 minutes with their stand in manager incapable of making this work. As if scanning two additional documents was any harder. Thankfully one of their competitors caught wind and helped us out by scanning the additional documents that would prove the name change and provided us with the car rental. Ive never been to place where the management and supervisors were so neutered that they are unable to make autonomous decisions on something so simple.
Service was good. Car had many blemishes. Brakes were horrable, if not unsafe. Let the checkin guys know, but I should not have received a car like that. Decided to add insurance, (good knows I would have been blamed), but for that to almost triple my price was a bit much to swallow.
They dont deserve even one star, but I had to select something. The worst customer service Ive experienceOnly 1 rep. at the counter with several customers in line. I had all my paperwork for her. I prepaid online with insurance. She asked if I wanted insurance. Told her I already purchased it. But she still added it. So I paid for double insurance. Once I realized it. I called customer service and spoke to Christine. She was so rude. Didnt let me talk and kept saying the same thing over & over and even said she wasnt there at the counter. So she couldnt confirm what actually was said. As to say I was lying. I will never use Dollar again & will make it a point to tell family & friends how I was treated & their veryy poor customer service & how rude they were and never to use them!!
Careful with your bill - we prepaid our car on Expedia.ca. Once there we decided to add insurance coverage. We were handed a bill which we thought was high because it included the cost of renting the car. The bill was hard to understand with all the abbreviation. We later found out that we were charged for 2 items that we never agreed to for the amount of $240. We called to complain and we received %50 of the charge. Still I feel that the customer agent was misleading in charging us for something we werent even aware we were getting.
Awful service. They charge much more than estimate provided with the reservation. Be ready to fight for your money with extremely annoying agressive sales. Spent a lot of time answering no, I dont need extra, no I dont want to spent more, no I dont need upgrade, no I dont want to buy anything, etc.Their cars are cheap with high mileage. Their price overall is the same as in a higher class agency but with much lower quality. Totally disappointed and will never deal with dollar again.
Easy peasyI rented online, picked it up at the San Diego airport, got an upgrade (probably because I got to the rental place off hours and there was no compact available). The price was right. The cars were side by side, ready to go in the Dollar area in the garage, keys on the dashboard. I chose the car of my preference, picked up a piece of paper where I marked all the dents or scratches that I saw in the car, gave it to the attendant and left. The return was very straight forward.
Arrived at rental car facility at 10 p.m., line inside the dollar lobby was wrapped around three times and starting to go out the door. Only two people working, eventually a third was added. Felt like 1983, dont we have kiosks and walk up stations at most rental car places? rented a convertible, was told I would have a mustang or equivalent and could pick from what was on the lot, there was only one car on the lot, a Buick, that was scratched and dinged all around. Long lines to get out of the garage waiting (more lines!) For a single open attendant too. Pretty unimpressed for what I am paying for the week. Im not even sure why I strayed from Enterprise, but I wont make this mistake again.
Best price in town. Thanks to our Air BnB hosts suggestion, we went with Dollar and got a significantly better deal. We let Dollar top off the gas. If you dont want to do that, its not really hard to find a gas station within 10 miles (save your receipt). Youll save about 25 cents a gallon--not worth the worry of having to take care of something last minute. We selected a compact and the car ran like a charm--parking around town was a cinch.Call your insurance companies to check on your coverages. We were able to pass on the very expensive insurance add-ons because we have, 1) comprehensive auto insurance that covers all vehicle damage, even total loss, 2) health insurance which covers any personal injuries 3) renters/homeowners insurance to cover any stuff left in the car.Checking out took about 15 min. Checking car back in took about 10 min, so leave yourself a little extra time. You will get your total at time of check in (for gas top-off). Youll also get a final receipt via email. No undisclosed extra charges. We were pleased. We waited in the airport shuttle, as it waited for more passengers to take on, for about 7 min. Everyone was absolutely courteous and professional. Some people here complain that they werent properly informed or that things took too long. If you budget your time and listen to everything youre told you wont have any problems.
Pushy salesperson trying to scare you with unnecessary upgrades. I know its part of their jobs but this time it was an unpleasant experience. The compact/intermediate car I got was $50 more than the quote I received online and the salesperson didnt really explain the difference at first though he kept probing about my vacation plans so he could offer more unnecessary services. With Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Avoidance, I was glad to pick a 2017 Corolla.
Upon making the reservation, I was charged a total of $51 for the rental. When arriving to pick up the vehicle, the represinitive informed me of multiple fees that I would have to pay, increasing my total to $496. The represinitive also stated that $200 was a temporary hold on my card and would be refunded. The represinitive was severely uninformed and nothing she stated was true. The grand total was approximately $550 to rent a the lowest class car for 5 days. Had I not been pressed for time, I would have taken my business elsewhere. Also, when picking up the car, it was very dirty and looked as if they made no attempt to clean it.This was the worst rental company I have ever dealt with. I will never use them again and will never recommend them.
Our car died in a busy parking lot. They had us drive it back & swap it for another. No upgrade. Then, at drop off tried to charge for gas on the replacement car when we originay prepaid gas. Had to argue to get what we paid for without being double charged. Left feeling they were trying to rip us off. Wouldnt use them again.
I got an unbelievable rate from a 3rd party for Dollar Rent A Car at the San Diego airport. Rental facility is bit of trek on a shuttle, but no fault of the rental agency.Vehicle was in decent shape, but I got talked into buying the liability insurance as I was told it was mandatory in the State of California and my credit card coverage did not specifically cover this. Instead of calling my credit card, I bought the insurance even though it was completely false.I dont appreciate the fact I was upsold and blatantly told false information.
Thanks to Tania we had a great experience. Initially we went to a different rep. and almost got wayy overcharched. We knew something was off so we walked away for a moment to check our confirmation email because we had already pre booked and paid half for what was supposed to be our total cost. We then walked back up to talk to a different representative and it happened to be Tania who instantly fixed the issue and had us out within a few minutes! The car was great (Subaru WRX) and we had a great time in San Diego! Thank you Tania for the great customer service!
They get one star for the car (rav 4), and one star because I like the new rental car center and the process of getting there, very efficient and easy. From there, not so hot, and Ive been burned on this before, do not sure why I let it happen, but a warning to you...When I checked in to get my car, I declined ALL insurance, our paid gas etc, and the guy clearly heard me say that I didnt want insurance. Unfortunately, I signed without reviewing the hundred pages of papers, one of which said DID want insurance. So my car rental was doubled because I signed for insurance I didnt want! Theyve gotten me on that same thing before, Im so mad at myself. And they wont adjust the bill after the fact no matter how much complaining you do.
Mr. Afaq Ahmed who assisted my husband and I with our rental exceeded all my expectations of this company. He allowed our visit to California to start off on a great note. He was polite and friendly. He offered us an upgrade that was pleasing. He was very patient as we decided from the options that he offered. Dollar you have a phenomenal employee on your hands. He’s a great asset and did a great job assisting us.
My family had a HORRIBLE experience with Dollar. We were rear-ended on Halloween (not our fault) My family, including 3 young visibly shaken children, were stranded on a busy intersection, at night, in an unfamiliar intersection. The Dollar employees on the phone instructed us that if we used a tow company other than theirs, we would be forced to pay it, while we had a police officer in front of us requiring the vehicle to be immediately towed for safety reasons. At that point Dollar instructed us that we would need to find a ride back to the airport to get another car (this was at least 30 minutes away) when we asked to cancel the reservation because we thought we could find a more local rental company and not have to drag our children out later in the night, they told us they couldnt cancel it without us coming into their airport location. The following day, my husband had to endure numerous transferred calls through Dollar, all telling him the next representative could help him. NOPE, we were still charged the full amount for a car we used for 4 hours. Obviously we used a different rental car company to get the next car. Completely unprofessional, unhelpful, and just lacking in human decency-not family friendly at all. Shameful Dollar Car Rental!!!!! At this point I expect they will send me a bill for the car that was totaled and not our fault.
Beware these people will charge you extra costs without knowing. I was charged an additional $140 for road side service and insurance that I did not agree upon. I was asked if I wanted basic or premium coverage. I told the agent I did not want any additional cost but was charged any way.I called customer service and they said they would only refund half since I signed my name under the agreement. See my Yelp review along with many others. Take your business elsewhere so you don’t get conned!!
Booked my car through Expedia. I specified I didnt want a certain model of rental. Dollar rental car had 1 car left in the mid sized suv class, and it was the model I had specifically asked not be my choice. Dollar wouldnt work it out with me so Expedia upgraded me to the next class of rental
Ok so i got a compact, & one cant expect much. I rented it to go a few hundred miles on a road trip, but had no confidence in the way it handled. I have had small rental cars before, but this was more like rent-a-junk. I wont be renting from them again. By the way, i took my personal car on the road trip & the rental stayed @ home, in town, for the family. It worked fine. But confidence is key, right?
Very pleasant experience!Previously, I avoided Dollar due to poor customer service, extremely long wait times and prices which were higher than others.Apparently they have changed alot! Streamlined check-in, less than 5 min wait and a car in great condition.Very, very pleased with my rental.
Reserved a car for my trip and already paid for it. Then I show up after flying for 4 hours to be told if I use a debit card they have to run a background check which wasn’t up to their standards so they wouldn’t let me rent a car. Then had to take a Lyft to Legoland Hotel for 65 dollars. Next day I called Enterprise and they said I could use a debit card and they don’t pull credit. Just had to pay an extra $10. Never use Dollar ... horrible customer service and wouldn’t even explain how to get a refund plus left me stranded without a car with my 8 year old. I will never use them again.
I would give this company zero stars if possible. If you are considering reserving a car with this company, run fast to a more reputable rental company, even if it costs more. My husband and I planned the trip of a lifetime (driving the Pacific Coast Highway in a convertible). We arrived to pick up the car, which had been reserved several months ago, and were informed upon arrival that it was simply not available. Why were we not contacted with a telephone call to let us know so we could have tried to troubleshoot on our own?? How can the company not have the RESERVED car available?? Pedro and staff did a horrible job empathizing and made absolutely no reasonable accommodation for the inconvenience. After talking to 7 other rental agencies at the San Diego airport (which by the way said no convertibles available because these are made by reservation only, duh!), Darnell Saucer at AVIS saved the day, except the cost to me was twice the price (because we were now walk-ins without a reservation--not Avis fault). I work professionally with businesses and entrepreneurs, and I asked Pedro to compensate us for the difference in price by providing us with a check, which I know he has the authority to do (or at least could call someone higher up). Pedro, instead gave me a 1-800 number and said we could try calling, but that it could be an hour hold on the phone. Good customer service, Pedro, would have been for you to make the call with me, instead of making me waste yet another hour of my dream vacation on the phone with customer service. Pedro took absolutely no accountability for the error, blaming it on the company instead. This is incredibly weak management. One of the hallmarks of great leadership is taking ownership and responsibility for situations, even when they arent good ones. Pedro (and the other employees), instead used the company as their scapegoat to avoid personal accountability. My recommendation, is stay far away from Dollar, particularly if youve invested your hard earned time away from your job and your hard earned money on the vacation of a lifetime. A disappointing start to my dream trip.
Very slow moving line, with too few attendants to help the number of customers. Then their computer system crashed, which added even more time. I was then turned loose to find my own car, but was directed into the Hertz section instead of the Dollar section. From the time I got off the bus to the time I was on the road was nearly an hour. My guess is that even with the computer system running properly, it would have been every bit of 45 minutes. One of the most frustrating things about it was that before the system crashed and the line was still like molasses, there was a manager in the back who wasnt out helping process people. He only came out once the system went down.
The ONLY positive side to renting is the return part; Fred was amazing! They also stole an extra $54 from me and charged my account. I picked the fuel up option that has you pay the $X.XX amount for the missing gas in the tank. I agreed to pay $3.04 per gallon on drop off, I actually filled it up writhing 15 miles of the drop off location; which means I shouldnt get charged for a FULL TANK OF GAS. Another thing that bothers me is that I paid for a full tank of gas down the street at the same price and it only cost me $34 and some change. Will never use this thriving company ever again. Staff is too pushy on the upsell and everyone does a TERRIBLE job at explaining anything other than yea its in the email. I hate writing bad reviews but this deserves one.
Ive rented from here three times thus far for business purposes. Alex at the counter was friendly and helpful. The return attendant Eduardo is a easy-going down to earth super cool guy! Eduardo has gone above and beyond to help me. He is very courteous and personable. I was introduced to Nicole through Eduardo who assisted me with a minor issue when I returned the rental vehicle tonight. I had a problem with the Arco Gas Station nearby. Thats another story. Everyone at Dollar Rental SAN Airport I have encountered with have been helpful, respectful and pleasant to deal with. Thank you for making my rental experience a positive one. Keep up with the great customer service you three! Maybe Arco Gas Station clerks can learn from these guys and be friendly. Again, thank you!
I paid more for a reservation at dollar over the extremely low cost rental locations in hopes of getting better service and a higher quality car. Well... Pamela at the rental location certainly delivered. She was very sweet yet professional, it was a great way to start my trip. Thank you Pamela.
NEVER rent a car there! My family came from Brazil and we chose Dollar. After they leave, an extra charge of 400 bucks showed up.They didnt solve my problem, they didnt care about fixing it.When I said I was recording the call the attendant (KAREN) said she could hang up. WHAT?Im serious. PAY a little bit bore but rent a car from another company!
I cannot begin to explain how nice the folks in the garage were to me. They upgraded me b/c I had to wait. They were patient and kind. I booked through Hotwire, and they were super nice -- commending me on my good rate! I had booked a convertible, and drove off in a convertible Super Sport.
Originally rented from a different rental company. Upon arriving at the airport, I was informed they wouldnt have cars available till much later in the day. Who does this? I already paid and was really upset as my family was back at the airport with our luggage waiting for me to pick them up. I walked over to dollar rental car to see if I could rent something from them. Not only were they professional and courteous, they were genuinely apologetic for another companies mistake. I dont want to give the company’s name that didn’t have the car available after I already prepaid but it starts with Ad and ends with vantage. I want to take a moment to recognize two employees that went out of there way to take care of us at Dollar rental, Hasan and Tonia. You two are the real MPV’s. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking care of me.
Be careful of this car rental agency. If you decline there insurance policy they will look for issues that they will find later to charge you. Small things windshield chips etc...frustrating. not a professional company here in San Diego. Would not even give a 1 star but had to or it would not post
Do your self a favor and pay a little more to rent some where else. We rented there on Sat it was terrible. The line in the office wasnt to bad but they didnt tell you they had no cars. When we went to get the car there where 50 people wanting in the garage area for a car. It was completely unorganized we had to get on a list but first you had to find the person to get on the list. Then some other employee shows up and trys to get people to move but he doesnt know what the other employee has us doing. It took us a hour to get a car after we left the office. I would rent from them again.
The type of car we reserved was not available when we arrived even though we called to confirm earlier in the day. The employee told us if we decided to pay for gas ahead of time we would only be billed to fill the tank from the point we had left when we dropped off. When we dropped off we had 1/4 of a tank left and they charged us to fill an entire tank. When we asked to speak to a manager they told us none was available and refused to address the issue
I was very pleased with the staff. They were very helpful and in tune for our needs. The minivan we chose was brand new, comfortable and clean. Our trip was enjoyable and comfortable. Thank you for your excellent service and making the process pleasant. We will use this location again. Best Regards, the Cordova Family
This is THE WORST PLACE TO RENT A CAR. It took more than one hour to get the car when we picked it up. Then, they literally forced us to pay almost $200 extra for “insurance” and the car broke down two days after we rented it in the middle of San Diego downtown and they took like 2 hours to come and give us the assistance we already had payed for. So unprofessional, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
AVOID AVOID AVOID, this company tricks you into paying more fees by lying, explained to rep 1st day who said extra fees would be fixed and to message when car was returned. THIS WAS A LIE, automated responses going back on their word after. Goto a better company like Alamo or Budget. Recommendation to Dollar, don’t offer your sales reps commission to lie and trick your customers?
Im posting early...so I have not received the vehicle yet, but Im in the finest city trying to rent a car, I guys r that cheap that you close all your counters, force the dollar customer to go to hertz, of course the line is out the door, & around the corner, we have been in this pandemic for 5 months, & your still not prepared!!!! Dont want to 👂 about the Rona, tourism never stops in the finest city!!!!
Dollar Car Rental is not then place to go for Car Rentals near me. They refused to let me rent a car, due to the fact that I didnt have my plane ticket. I was just robbed and all my luggage was stolen and they didnt have a single remorse in their entire company, Thanks Dollar Car Rental you guys diffinetly saved the day near me.
The interaction with the rental agent was full of lies. One, an economy car will not be able to hold two carry on suitcases, you will have to put them on the seat. So, you should get a larger car (for more money). Wrong. Two, pick any car in these parking slots. Wrong.. You have to figure out, on your own, which of the cars parked in the compact zone is really an economy car versus a compact car. Wasted 45 minutes looking for the economy sign then picking a car then finding it was the wrong car. Three, the deceitful agent said, you really should have us fill the tank for you versus trying to find a gas station because the only one near us is xxx which costs alot. Wrong. There are a dozen gas stations within ten miles. Never will use Dollar again. Last time used Budget and will go back to them.
Id use them again in spite of them charging me $10 per gallon for gas. The representative in the beginning check out side was really good. The porter guy? that we turned the car in to not so nice. He was rushing us so much that we 4got my newly graduated Marines charger in the console
Second time I tried to rent a car from Dollar. They failed me again. Spent 2 hours here trying to pick up a car.I went to Avis. Drove away half an hour after I left here.Im all about giving a second chance, but they blew that one too.Good luck. If you go here and Dollar fails you too, I highly recommend signing up for Avis Preferred and going upstairs to see them.
The dollar agent sales manager was so nice friendly and full of enthusiasm. Her name is Marissah. She put her customers first. Therefore, I recommend her for the great customer service she gave us. Come and enjoy the dollar rent a car with an A plus customer service.
I had a nice experience with Dollar Rent a Car in that I could drive it nationwide without any states blocked out; the agent didnt push extras; and, when we needed to change cars at the Albuquerque Airport because the check engine icon appeared, we were treated helpfully and efficiently with a minimum of delay.
Return was a total pain in my ass. They give you no grace on their gas receipt policy and when they saw an empty pack of cigs in the car they threatened me with a 300$ fine unless I cleaned the car. Making me go THREE times through the return que consumed all of my airport grace period, NEVER again.
Doesnt even deserve one star. Was quoted $213 came out paying $405. Spoke to their customer service phone line because no one was willing to work with me in person, and had someone direct me a certain way, and this went on for many phone calls. HORRIBLE customer service, nobody honored their prices because nobody notates or does their job correctly. Friendly advise, stay away from this company they are sketchy people and dont care about customer service, what so ever, nobody was willing to work with me since day one. NEVER considering dollar/thrifty/hertz ever again. They are all one company.
Ive been trying for over an hour to get a hold of the local Dollar rental counter at the San Diego airport but continue to get the runaround from their corporate office. I just need to ask couple of questions about a late flight in and their closing hours but cannot find a local number. Help!!
Aggressive attempt to upsell & tried to force the insurance on me. Additionally I paid for a Ford escape or similar & was given a Hyundai Kona, which is way smaller and was very inconvenient for our entire trip since we were traveling with a car seat and stroller everywhere we went.Lady at counter was rude and unhelpful, was playing on her cell phone the entire time.
Just awful, awful, awful. Only worth the price if you dont value your time. A case study in horrible service. Had a bad experience a few weeks ago and then they gave me a certificate to convince me to give them another try. So I did and guess what, I have been on the phone with them for more than an hour and a half and 5 different people. They have then cancelled my reservation so I can rebook and use the certificate. After rebooking (and not getting confirmation that my other one is cancelled) they are now telling me that they wont honor the certificate at this location. THE SAME LOCATION THAT GAVE IT TO ME FOR HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Will never, ever, ever, ever, ever try them again.
Terrific! My granddaughter left he car keys in my rental car after I had turned it in at 6am in San Diego. I went on to my flight home to Seattle and got a paniced phone call at 8:00 pm from her. Nana, could you please call the car rental place....I left my keys in the console of the car!. I called Dollar and the first person I spoke with said the lost and found was closed. I told he the story and she contacted the San Diego office. Gerardo called me and through his persistence, found the keys!! He was wonderful...and so thoughtful!!! A very, very grateful granddaughter picked up her keys late that Sunday evening...and she got to school and work on time on Monday! Thank you Dollar and thank you Gerardo!!
Very bad experience. The sales person added things to our bill without letting us know. Luckily I notice the bill just before I walked out the door. After i went back to her I had to wait about another 10 min for her to finish with other people . She also tried to sell us the fuel prepaid option saying that fuel outside is $4 when in fact it is only $2.89.I will never but never rent from Dollar in my life.
Customer for 12 years and had an issue a this location that is unthinkable. They rented a car with Marijuana inside of the car to me. Please be careful as you can get arrested for having this without a medical card( no judgement here). Please choose another company that is not so careless with their customers.
Staff here spent some time trying to force their own collision damage waiver on me, even though I had already bought CDW from Expedia. Because I had not purchased Dollars CDW they insisted on getting my insurance details, because if I had an accident they would go there first... not the CDW I had purchased from Expedia.
Drove less then 10 miles and returned the car same day. Tried to make us pay for a chip in the windshield. It was only after insisting to speak to someone in charge that they looked at it and agreed the the chip had worn edges and was old damage. The way the garage talked to us and treated us during this experience was rude to say the least.
Walked in anticipating a $92 bill and walked out with a $319 bill. Filled out their post rental survey and submitted a complaint on their website with no response. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. I dont feel like spending hours on the phone trying to get my money back.
Rented a car from Dollar at the San Diego airport for 5 days and car reeked of cigarrette smoke...we had to smell the smoke for the 5 days and we do not smoke!!!! also thr was beach sand all over the console area...Dollar dropped the ball on this one!!! i guess thats why they advertised cheaper than the other rental companies. I guess u get what u pay for.
My husband needed to call and let them know about arrival time because his flight was cancelled and he needed to take another flight. He called and talked the customer service woman but she was really rude.My husband could not understand what she said so he asked again then she just said same thing again then hung up the phone call. Now we know why lots of people write bad review for this company.
They offer cheap rates when you catch them in time, but the staff have no idea whats going on when you actually have an issue. I got the we dont deal with anything here, you have to call customer service spiel, only to be told by customer service that they cant do anything and that I need to speak with a rep at the location I got the car from.
I was charged an additional $110 at the counter than the price that was quoted to me while booking. Tried to talk to customer service about it, and was told that the website was run through someone else, so they didnt have control over what was quoted. Will NEVER book through them again.
Dollar Express system is inoperative at the San Diego location. You have to wait in line at the booth to get a contract which can take 15-20 minutes. Also, beware you have to show a gas purchase receipt from a station near the airport or else you will be charged $15 even if the gas gauge shows totally filled.
$15 ADMIN FEES FOR TOLLS. Aside from what a toll will cost you they will charge you $15 per toll on ADMIN FEES. What kind of unregulated abuse is this????Update: Dollar reached out to “fix the issue” but when I called they are not able to do anything...I will never be using Dollar again

2022-05-25Car: free upgrade yippeeCustomer service: ERIC was down to earth 🌍, super friendly, smiling under his mask! He was very efficient, quick, to the point... He is supposed to upsell everything from insurance to carseats. But he made sure that he moved quickly. His rate of customer was 3x faster than others at the counters! Please learn from this guy!Counter line: 30 minutes wait. Speaks for itself.Tip: fill out the online form for registration to get all your information in their system before you reach the counter. This will help your wait time by 10 minutes!Negative/ minus 1 star: my bill was $288, a $88 of taxes and fees. Yikes! Also, one lady took 20 minutes to upsell one guy while everyone in line waited and suffered.

2021-12-01If I had one word to describe this place it would be TRASH. They will give you messed up vehicles that jeopardize your life. I exchanged 2 vehicles within 3 day. One stopped in the middle of a highway. My colleague returned three vehicles for various reasons. Extremely unsafe and whoever does the air quality assurance and maintenance on these vehicles needs to be fired.

2022-03-24My customer service representative was fine, although the location was very understaffed for the volume of customers. My low rating is due to the male representative, who was extremely rude while aggressively pushing customers to purchase extra insurance coverage and prepay for fuel. Prepaying for gas is ALWAYS advantageous to the company, unless the customer returns the car with a completely empty tank, which is nearly impossible to accomplish. Although it can be convenient for some, the male employee spoke very condescendingly to the the two customers I witnessed him speak with.

2022-08-03We have been waiting almost one hour and still in line and most probably one more hour will wait to pick up the car. 3 out of the 10 counters are working only! If I would read the views before I would not reserve from Dollar.Never try this company if you love your time and Don’t want to go crazy!I would love to well directed from airport to the picking up location. I realized that there was a shuttle bus to the location after getting a Uber drive. There would some “how to go there” information in reservation notice.

2022-07-26This review is specifically for Jose. Renting cars at airports always seems such an ordeal, yet Jose made it a pleasant experience. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and very patient with me after my rental mistake - I had booked a car in the wrong class. He advised me, accurately, on the relative sizes of different vehicles and differences between models from various years. We took his advice - he was right, of course. Thank you Jose.

2022-07-31This review is specifically for Jay and his help with my reservation. This was my first rental through Dollar and I wasn’t too sure what to expect. From getting in line to walking out the door to head towards my rental, was an hour long. There were 3-4 reps at the counters. Jay was great at explaining Dollar express, rentals, etc. He was easy to work with and made my experience at the counter seamless. One thing of note, Hertz, Dollar, & Thrifty all work together, so my rental was actually chosen out of the Hertz rentals.

2022-06-25Excellent service, smooth pick up, great car, no issues and we drove over 1,700 miles. Dropping off was a breeze, just drive in, get the luggage out of the car and walk away. Good job Dollar, would definitely recommend you.

2022-04-291) I spent almost an hour trying to get their broken website to update my profile. The site would not allow modification, trapped in a loop alleging any credit card number I entered was a wrong CC number. 2) I tried to simply make the reservation and prepay, but got a notice of Technical Difficulties. 3) I called in and after sent to a promotion I didnt want to listen to, so I hung up and called again. 4) I called the number posted for the Sand Diego airport Dollar and got the call center apparently in India. The call center is annoyingly noisy with people speaking very loudly in the background. The person told me they could not let me have the discount for paying in advance by phone, I would have to use the website. 5) Calling Avis now. I seen hot dog stands run better than this.

2022-02-24Five stars for Dollar car rental in San Diego Airport ... Our flight out of NJ last 2/18 /22 was delayed and we arrived at the wee hours of the morning,. Instead of telling us that we lost the car we reserved they upgraded it into a much better car for minimal fee and when we lost the second car , they upgraded it again to an Infiniti for free. The agent Marissah was very patient , courteous, and pleasant even though we were her last customer for the day. Thanks again Marissah and also to your manager, for going beyond your duties to give the best service to your customers. You have made our trip to San Diego an unforgettable one.

2022-08-21Im writing this review to compliment the employees at the Dollar rental office at the Calgary, Canada airport. We landed at the airport on time at about 6pm from San Diego. When we got to the Dollar office we waited in line for a very long time before it was our turn. We had a car reserved in advance, but we learned that there were no cars available. The young man at the desk was apologetic and suggested we go get dinner and come back in 2 hours, which was around 10:30pm. We followed his suggestion and when we got back he had a car for us. The car was many levels above the car we originally rented, but the young man told us he had advocated for us to get it and the powers that be consented. PLUS, we were not charged extra for the higher level car! We hated the LONG wait to get the car, but we loved the car, which was probably worth the wait. I only wish I knew his name because he did went above and beyond for us! The other employee was Tanvir, who checked our car when we returned it to the airport. Tanvir was very personable and helpful! I would rate both of these 2 Dollar employees 10/10!
