If you need gas, not a bad location. But if you need more than a flat fix, go down to Bishop to get real mechanics. They were to fix a flatbed trailers wiring. They finally admitted they couldnt fix it, but still charged $580! For fixing NOTHING! They were claiming that they had spent time on the job so needed payment! For NOTHING! I will NEVER ask them to fix anything for us again.
My car was in the workshop for 12 days. Before they realized the true cause of the breakdown, the cooling fan motor, they changed three unnecessary parts, for which they charged me money for parts and work, although they promised not to charge money from an unnecessary part! The owner of the workshop is terribly rude in conversation. If possible, try to bypass their business side.
While on a long road trip my car needed some attention because it was making a loud noise. A waiter in Mammoth recommend Karl at Chevron saying he is an honest guy and a good mechanic. It was the only place open on a Sunday and they got us in. Their team did a great job quickly diagnosing the issue and getting the work done. The price was much less than I expected and my car sounds better and Im ready to continue my drive. Their team was really nice, answered all my questions, and easy to work with. Im grateful we went in and definitely recommend them!
I took my car into Karl, the owner and one of the mechanics today. First off, I am grateful the service department was open on a Sunday as I have a long drive home tomorrow. Karl was extremely knowledgeable, thorough and experienced. The shop was busy but I never felt rushed. In fact, he was generous with his time and thoughts. Karl took the time to listen to my poorly worded description of my car concerns. He was friendly and patient. After a test drive and reviews he determined my car was okay to go. Thank you Karl for keeping me safe and your excellent service. If your in Mammoth and need help with an auto issue, you can’t go wrong stopping by to see Karl and his experienced staff.
I would give 10 stars if I could!I am so grateful for Karl.2-3 days after I arrived in Mammoth Lakes, my brakes started to act very spongy while I had gotten new front rotors and brake pads 3 weeks before.I was very concerned as brakes issues could be a matter of life and death.I went to 2 autoshops with good reviews. One guy in a bad mood brushed me off and told me to leave my car a few hours just to look at it and without even listening to my car issues. An other place wanted to give me a complete maintenance check before even looking at my brakes!Karl welcomed me as soon as I pulled up and listened to my car concern and fixed the issue within 30min by bleeding my brakes for only $30! Talk about an honest mechanic!I even had the best time waiting for my car getting some hiking tips from Debbie at the cash register. Then, the time to get back to LA arrived and I realized I was low on oil. I went back to Chevron on my way out of town and Karl filled up my oil with a full bottle without charging me a dime saying it was on him and that he was happy I really had great vacation in Mammoth!Thats a class act!I am so grateful for the great energy, warm welcoming feeling and great service I got here.Thank you so much Karl!
The entire crew at Chevron Mammoth was nothing short of five stars all the way around! We woke up to go hiking at 9 AM our car battery was dead on a Sunday morning. We call Chevron and those guys were out to our campsite within 20 minutes to give us a jumpstart we followed Mr Will back to the shop , they had a new battery installed and us out the door all in all an hour start to finish from when we called !! ! On a Sunday morning! Highly recommend the entire crew at Chevron Mammoth. Great job today guys
I have been taking my car here for the past 10 years for servicing and tires. The staff at Mammoth Chevron gets busy, but they are always friendly! I had an issue with a check engine light last November that was coming on repeatedly every few days. I would swing by the station and Johnny or Karl would stop what they were doing to quickly hook up my car to read the error code. Once we figured out what it was, Johnny ordered the part and once it arrived he was able to quickly install it without an appointment. And Mammoth Chevron always supports the local sports teams! That really is important for a small town! (Go Huskies!)
We arrived with a flat tire at 5:45pm. The repair shop was supposed to be open until 6pm.They closed the shop in our face asking us to return next day. We tried to explain that we were having 3 children in the car and terribly needed the tire fixed, we even offered to pay triple the price but the answers was NO and was delivered with sadistic satisfaction.Stay away from this place, they don’t deserve to be in business!
These guys charged me $50 to scan my car that had the check engine light on. Most places will scan your car for free (like OReilly), but these guys know theyre the only auto shop open on Sunday and they take advantage of tourists because of it. Unethical and bad for business if you ask me.
DO NOT PURCHASE DIESEL FUEL HERE.My brand new 2015 diesel SUV broke down in the middle of the highway soon after filling up with fuel from this station. The dealer determined that it was due to contaminated fuel. The fuel was full of water, sediment and algae which created a major vehicle malfunction with a repair estimate of over $15k.The gas station referred me to their insurance company who have been using stall tactics and intimidation techniques. After doing a little bit of research, I have found that I am not the first / only person that this has happened to, even recently. Since then, complaints have been filed with every government agency possible along with the EPA and Chevron Corporate. I have also learned that the Dept of Agriculture and BBB have received multiple complaints about this station. While it might not happen to everyone, it does happen. Might have to do with the timing of when the gas is filled by the tankers or if it has rained recently. Dont risk it and just get your diesel at some other place in town. I shudder to think that I could have been in a nasty car accident if I wasnt able to get onto the shoulder in time. Just dont take the risk.Happy to provide factual documentation on the fuel lab tests, insurance inspector report, dealer report and agency feedback.
This is the second time that Chevron (the boss Karl) has bailed me out of a situation. The first was my tire shredded and he had one sent over from Lake Tahoe. Then yesterday he secured my tire flap with zip ties so that I could use my chains. Great place and very helpful guy.
Took my car to get an o2 sensor fixed. They stalled my car and they werent able to turn it back on. My car was sitting there for 2 weeks because they couldnt find the problem. Long story short, they blew a fuse when they stalled my car and they couldnt find it until 2 weeks later. Still charged me for labor. Worst service and theyre always in a bad mood. Would give 0/5 if I could.
My tire pressure light went on in the car so i pulled in to Chevron to fill up on air. I went inside to ask the young gentleman (didnt get his name but from Venice, CA) to turn on the air and he said it was leaking, so he told me to pull around to the mechanic garage and hed help me. He filled all my tires and i must say as a 7 month pregnant women i was incredibly appreciative and grateful for his kind and generous service. Thank you - you made my day!
I added about 12 gallons of diesel fuel at this station on June 7, 2015 and drove my truck a half a mile to our campground. The engine would not start the next morning and I had to have the truck towed to a local diesel mechanic. We found that the tank was full of dirty, green water that did not smell or look like diesel gas. The mechanic had to pump the entire tank of gas out and it took several hours to clear the water out of the system and injectors. I was told by the mechanic that the same thing has happened several times before with bad fuel coming from this gas station and that the owner does not admit that his diesel fuel is contaminated. I saved the fuel filter and a sample of the water in case further evidence is needed.WARNING: Do not buy diesel fuel at this station.
Showed up at 2 o’clock on a Monday with a major breakdown towed into town by a friend. The owner, Carl, said he didn’t have time that day but he’d help me the following day. Spent the night reading bad reviews and dreading (but needing) his shop’s diagnosis. 8am I was at the shop and nothing. 8:30 the owner showed up and said someone would be with me shortly. An hour later a guy came by and said we should tow it somewhere else because they were too behind - no apologies and not a word from the owner. This was obviously a total let down and huge inconvenience after wasting nearly a day for nothing but based on the reviews I read (which were all the ones on google and Yelp) maybe I was lucky.AVOID THIS PLACE UNLESS YOUR DESPERATE. THEY WILL MAKE YOU SIGN A BLANK WORK ORDER - WHICH IS ILLEGAL IN CA - SO MAKE SURE TO GET AN ACTUAL QUOTE IF YOU’RE DESPERATE ENOUGH TO NEED THESE GUYS!
I had a first thing in the morning 8am appt for a simple oil change. My car sat in the lot until after 9:15 before it made it into the bay. Snow day it was but this is Mammoth and the storm was over hours before they opened and it was well forecasted. The service lady acted as though a foot of snow was a good excuse not to open up over an hour late. Really, it was not that much snow removal for the area. How about a hearty apology and a free coffee?
Karl is the perfect person you want to run into when your car starts acting up and your rental company is trying to ignore you. Karl and his team fixed the tire in a matter of minutes, for an extremely reasonable price, and completely took care of charging the rental company for us, it was exactly how those types of scenarios should happen in a perfect world. He’s a great guy who’s been around and knows a thing or two, great conversation.
Not only once...Not twice...but 3 times have we gotten expired food from this gas station. We told the manager about a Naked juice being 4 MONTHS expired and the only thing he said was to take another one off the shelf, and still he continued to sell the rest of the expired products. We went back after a couple of weeks with a group of people trying to get snacks after a long drive, and EVERY single item that 4 different people bought was expired. Third time we were hesitant to buy anything from there, and for good reason...guess what? EXPIRED! I would recommend NEVER getting any sort of edible items from there without first checking that expiration date.
Great station with competitive prices and a Do-It-Yourself Car Wash. Also lots of enhanced---modified---cars for off-roading and 4 wheel drives for future fun on back-country pumice roads are a special offering at this station. This station is well lighted and safe. On the occasion I went in, the clerk was courteous and smells of lemony pine sol from a freshly mopped floor made a memory. Notice the souped up Yellow Volkswagen Beetle with off-road tires. There is a complimentary window wash vat, squeegees and paper towels. Thanks! Chevron has a well-stocked mini mart and pink geraniums looking happy.
We drove up to go inside and make a purchase. An employee comes to our window as we pulled up and had a irritated look on his face and said, What do you want? My husband who was closest to him in the passenger seat, replied We just wanted to make a purchase, why are you closed at 7:45?.The employee said, Yes, I just mopped the floor. Will not go there again.
Yesterday my son went there to wash his bike after races and an employee treated him horribly and used foul language saying all the dirt bike riders are socal pussys cause there circuit breakers at the car wash kept blowing out and they would loose the money they put into machine to wash there bikes and they would ask the employees for help. I would never recommend this place to anyone. From now on we will buy fuel somewhere else!!
I would not go to the station. 1. His prices are high2. They do not honor there own coupons I have a coupon for 20 percent off all chains when I went to the station ., the owner would not honor the coupon. This person is rude and his station should be avoided. 3. There service is dishonest over charging and misrepresenting the repairs and costs.
The people working here seems like they hate tourists. I ask the old lady if they have air pump for tires and she replied its buried in snow, go to the next station across the street. And then went back inside. And then I went to Shell across the street and ask for the air pump and they even help me dig the air pump.

2022-06-27Cool and helpful staff. If you plan on buying oil better do it before you reach Mammoth Lakes, because you’ll need $100+ only for the 6-7 quarts of oil before $40 labor and $25 filter. You’ll be better of buying it somewhere else in advance than last minute from that Chevron gas station. Helpful for emergency stops though. They also have a self service car wash which needs $5 for every 4 minutes. You probably need a good 12 minutes to make a proper wash so $15+-

2022-01-28We are staying in June Lake on our snowmobile trip and our alternator in our truck went out today. I purchased an alternator next door at Napa and the guys at Chevron were able to fit us in to install the alternator and get us back on the road! They were very professional and reasonably priced! I highly recommend them for any repairs you need when in Mammoth!

2022-02-22My car broke during Presidents day ski weekend on Mammoth. Guys at Chevron were able to diagnose the tricky problem with parking brake on my Subaru Outback, then figure out a workaround (no available parts for complete fix) so I could drive my car back home the next day. I still have to visit local Subaru dealership for final fix but support Chevron team provided helped us a lot. Price was also reasonable.

2022-06-03We would definitely recommend the guys at Mammoth Lakes Chevron for a different reason to why you’d normally give 5 stars….briefly; as part of a service they changed out a fuel filter on our truck.Unfortunately the new filter leaked. So after about one hundred miles our 35 gallon tank was empty…we were now stranded in Death Valley….having spoken to independent qualified mechanics I understand this can happen to any mechanic ~ apparently it’s almost impossible to be certain that the fuel filter isn’t either too tightly or too loosely installed (actually it was the water sensor underneath the filter) ~ every single time ~ but here’s why they deserve all 5 stars… they didn’t question that this wasn’t their error and fully compensated us for all towing & out of pocket expenses. …thanks guys ,

2022-06-16We received the BEST service from the mechanics here! Jose was beyond amazing and Rocky and Ryan were very lovely as well. We were just amazed by the kindness and service we received during our trip (and unfortunate but very fortunate break down in Mammoth). We just feel so grateful for Jose and the entire staff here. Thank you so much!

2022-03-02My cars check engine light came on on a trip up north with my kids. They kept saying the would diagnose it and figure it out. I ended up staying another night just for them to fix it and they didnt. They had my car for 24 hours and I dont think they could figure it out. And they got SUPER rude when I mentioned I wanted to use my warranty insurance to pay.... They literally freaked out ... I would never even get gas here... Ugh

2021-12-30Visited Mammoth during a series of snowstorms. Lost one of our chains and needed it to get around. While the price of the tire chains was twice as much as the LA area (not unexpectedly), the people working at the station were very helpful and friendly. They had the size we needed and while we didn’t need installation, they do offer it.While we were waiting, their phone was ringing continuously with requests for chains. Debbie was friendly to all and quickly relayed tire chain size. This is the “go to” place if you need chains while in Mammoth.

2021-10-17We are disappointed that there was no window squeegee to clean our windshield! The attendant was rude and yelled through his mask that it is located inside the store... it’s 64 degrees. The Shell station down the road had all of their squeegees outside. Get your act together Chevron and perhaps offer some training to your employees so they can handle themselves better with customers. We won’t be returning to your store.
