We paid through Payless Car Rental It was a little Mitsubishi Mirage. Car had some dings but was clean on the inside. My problem was, I reserved it through Southwest Airlines and had a pretty good deal. When we got there, the attendant woman asked if I wanted to get a different car. I said I just wanted the best deal. She had a heavy accent and I couldnt understand her very well. She gave me the little Mitsubishi and away we went. Come to find out it was more expensive than the one I had reserved, which was a bigger nicer car. The workers in the parking lot were nice and professional and the young guy who checked over the car before we left the parking structure was a real great kid.
We originally had a car reserved with Payless, but after having to deal with a not very nice staff there, we decided to cancel and try Avis. At Avis, the staff at SAN were very nice and helpful. Renting was fast and easy! Agent was so considerate, that when I mentioned wed be going to Disney, he offered us a hybrid to help save on gas! Should have come here first, now I know!🙂
BEWARE! When I upgraded I was given a quote of $663.04 but when I asked for a receipt, the charge was $863.04. When I questioned it, the agent said it was a prepaid charge that would be refunded upon return of the vehicle. Prepaid refund was not on receipt given to me at time of return. Immediately the agency called me on my cell and told me it would take 1 to 2 business days for the refund to show up in my account. Over 2 weeks later still no refund. I called Avis directly and they said call agency directly. I did. Their message said 20 minute hold. Dont fall for the managers reply to a bad review to contact Avis with an email. I tried calling directly. I think Ive been had.
Amazing customer experience! I had originally booked a rental car with Fox Rent-a-car in San Diego, but when I arrived to pickup my car, I was told that an International drivers license was required for International travelers. The clerk and manager wouldnt or couldnt offer an alternative. I went to Avis and the clerk was super helpful and arranged a rental car for a one-way rental from San Diego to San Francisco in no time. Very pleased with the car and the experience at Avis.
I am not one to typically take the time to write reviews for anything but in this case I feel like I have a responsibility to inform anyone who may be looking to rent from this particular Avis in the future.Short Answer: DON’T DO IT AND LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE!!!Longer answer: The representatives our party dealt with at this location were dishonest and misleading. Having had booked with their preferred service online, we expected this would expedite getting a car and leaving the airport. After actually waiting 45-60 minutes later, we were finally delivered our rental car.Apparently, they had forgotten about us and that we were waiting for a car. Then after waiting in line a second time, we talked to them again. They sent someone out to pick up the car but then we saw them LEAVE the parking lot with the vehicle and did not come back for about 20-30 minutes. This delay caused our group to be late for something extremely important, the point of booking with preferred was speed and we did not get it. The representatives at Avis were misleading on time and timeframe and lied to us about it while waiting. Had they been honest, we would have been happy to accept literally any other car available as we were in a hurry. As a public service announcement, do yourself a huge favor and book with literally any of the other rental agencies here. There are so many better options!!!!
We had additional charges at the counter, and they argued with us about the paperwork we brought to demonstrate a lost license with a replacement on the way. They tried to argue with us about Illinois policies, but they didnt know what they were talking about. It makes absolutely no sense why a debit card is accepted for a round-trip bit not for a one way rental. The spot we were given with our car was empty when we arrived, and we had to visit a second counter. All in all I would describe the experience as shady with hidden fees and shady policies.
I usually go with National for all of my rental car needs for business or leisure. In this case, National was not available, so instead of going with Budget or Fox Rental, so I gave Avis a try. I booked through my company’s corporate portal in order to lock in a lower rate. My corporate daily rate was for $59. When I arrived they tried to charge me $99 for my daily rate. There were two employees trying to figure out why this was happening and the veteran employee just lied to my face and said it had to do with airport fees. I knew this was a lie because I had rented with their competitors so many times and knew exactly which airport fees were involved. They said they would have the receipt E-mailed to me, which means that they would charge me first before I could see the breakdown of the charges. I did not agree to this and insisted upon a printed itemized receipt so I could show them my locked in corporate rate. It took another twenty minutes for them to even figure out how to print an itemized receipt. Once they were able to figure it out i pointed out to the employee side by side that they were not charging me the agreed upon rate. We ended up having to walk to their budget offices so another employee could figure out what was wrong. The disgruntled employee at Budget figured it out right away and printed out a correct rental agreement and they both just left me there to go get my car without explicit directions. I walk up to the third story and the guy who lets me out of the lot wants me to pull up a QR code. No one said anything about a QR code, the lack of communication would be humorous if it werent such an inconvenience to customers. I will do everything in my ability to not ever go through Avis again. I will also be sharing this review on Google and anyone else that has rental car needs.
Please do not rent car from here, thats the only unpleasant experience of my San Diego trip.I first assigned a full size car while it is double assigned to another family and I need to do a change request. And I was over charged for 120 dollars, the reason is I agreed to some lose of damage insurance and the best part is when the guy asked me if I need this coverage my answer is no, maybe the no just sound like a yes.
We upgraded our vehicle, paying an additional $60 a day for the convertible, and were given a vehicle with unsafe tires, a slow leak in the rear tire that we had to consistently stop to fill during our trip, and rear windows that did not fully close. The vehicle was also overdue for an oil change. We planned a road trip across California and trusted the company to give us a safe, reliable car. Unfortunately, the vehicle we were given was not up to par and we are disappointed with the companys vehicle inspection prior to renting out their vehicles (branch specific) as well as their customer service upon letting them know our concerns (general company). Will not be renting from them in the future.
This is zero stars. The car given to me broke down. I called emergency assistance only to be put on hold for a very long time without resolving the issue. I called AVIS customer service and emergency roadside assistance about 20x. Probably spent 4 hours on the phone on hold. In the end I had to find my own mechanic to jump start and fix the car. Avis didn’t even reimburse me for this when I went back to get a replacement. Such a nightmare experience. Avis is not there to help when you absolutely need them the most.
My review is objectively biased based on my experience with Noemi. She was a breath of fresh air after an early morning flight that would lead to a long commute to the branch that I was flown in to audit. I’ve rented here (SAN airport)three times in the past 2 months, and hands down - Noemi is the epitome of professionalism and competence with the most exemplary client relations skills I’ve seen.5 Stars ⭐️ for Noemi and Avis
The Toyota Corolla rental was not clean on the outside and looked like it was driven through a rain storm. We had an emergency back home and had to return our prepaid rental car early. I called Avis and they could not accommodate me as I explained the situation and asked about a credit or partial refund. She said I would need to ask at the rental counter at the SD airport. The person I spoke to was difficult to understand. When we arrived at the San Diego Airport, the counter clerk at Avis on 7/6/22 @ 6:15 AM said theres NOTHING he could do since it was prepaid! Nothing is unacceptable! He didnt even try or ask a supervisor! I will not use Avis again and the company will hear from me! If I could take off the one star, I would!
The customer service at check-in was over and above the best we’ve received in our 30+ years of traveling! The Avis representative at the San Diego helped us when we ran into an issue with Hertz mishandling our reservation and unable to accommodate us. The rep efficiently set-us with a car with kindness and understanding for our predicament.Thank you Avis!
VERY VERY bad experience.Forget about the ridiculous charges you get slapped on top of the rental, all companies do that, as unprofessional as it is, it is now an industry standard. What was a $760 weekly rent turned finally into a $1200+ bill.REAL problem was that I rented a 7 seater. When the employee refused to give me the SUV I rented saying they could not guarantee specific cars and that I was getting the equivalent, I took it for granted that he knew his job.BAD assumption.Car had two Captain Chairs in the middle row and only 6 seat belts. We had to shuffle around things and rely on local family to get everyone to places.Do NOT trust AVIS employees.
When we arrived to check-in for our rental car, we walked into an empty San Diego airport Avis and were delighted we’d be seen immediately. As we were walking up to the counter, the manager walked in with two groups who needed to be checked in. The manager allowed these groups to go in front of us even though they arrived after us. It was incredibly frustrating that we were treated like less because the manager had friends that arrived. Myself and my spouse will never use Avis again because they treat their customers unfairly.
Todays experience w/ Avis San Diego Airport wasnt expected at all. Im an Avis preferred member and choose this option because of the supposed quick in and out w/ renting a vehicle. I arrived to the airport ready to choose my vehicle w/ the app and it gave me errors to go to the preferred counter. I get to the counter and the Avis agent says she cant find a reservation under my name when clearly I had a current reservation on the Avis app. I take a look at my credit card charges and had already seen a charge for the vehicle on my app and yet the agent tells me that Id have to pay another $317 since no reservation shows. We finally get to the rental and I see that Ive got two reservations under my name in the app. At this point, Im furious because now Ive been charged twice for two different rentals. Had the agent stopped talking and socializing and actually paid attention to the Avis members these mistakes wouldnt happen. Something that shouldve been so simple turned into almost an hour of going back and forth w/ the agent at the counter. Get it together Avis! This is the 2nd experience Ive had w/ Avis this year that has turned out NOT SO GREAT! Think twice if youre wanting to rent from Avis in the future.
12 Day rental, for 1100.00. Needed to add an 18hr period to the rental. Avis wanted to charge me 389 for the additional 18 hours. After 12 phone calls over 2 days, and 4 supervisors who kept disconnecting me, I gave up and returned the car and rented similar vehicle from Dollar for under $80. Had similar experience where I could not reach a supervisor when Avis wanted to charge me a Tow fee and a Jump fee after they gave me a defective car for another long term rental. Took 4 days of persistent calling before I could reach anyone who would make the situation right. Too hard to get resolution on unjust billing practices with this company. And they really seem to not care at all.
I have been renting from Avis SD airport many times this year, I would said the overall experience is wonderful! Ive always got a good upgrade or accommodate for my request. The Avis app assign the car and I can pick an upgrade from there was nice. Lots of car types to choose. Cars are new and low mileage too. I normally dont need to wait in line as a preferred member too. Counter agents are polite and friendly, specifically I appreciate the site manager Kazi Hussain always helping customer like me. I highly recommend renting from this location.
Horrible. They gave us a car with a broken tail light, which we didnt know until a cop pulled us over and gave us warning. Then there was no antenna, parts were loose and broken inside the van. The sliding door kept getting stuck. Maintenance of the car was over due, car lit up like a Christmas on dash board. They charge me for bringing it with a full tank. OnTop of everything else no one walked through with us, just gave us the keys and said car is ready. Left me with a 500$ bill after everything, on top of rental. After contacting customer service they replied that they had no answer for over charges,It is what it is. Also no refund for returning car.
Sam was the best customer service rep Ive had in years! Give him praise and a raise for being fast, efficient, courteous and helpful. When we had a hiccup during checkout, he pivoted to another solution and kept us moving. Great attitude, great skills, overall great experience.
Overcharged without warning. I reserved a car for my dad over a month early and paid in full to get a good deal then found out that we still owed $140 when we turned it in. Apparently they charged underage fee even though I booked for my dad and the website doesnt have a spot for driver only billing information. I was told to call the customer service number but they dont answer after 7:30pm so will have to wait till morning to resolve.Edit: they still kept the charge and admitted you cannot reserve for anyone but yourself on website. But didnt bother telling me till after returning car and charging me extra.
Took a very long time to get my vehicle. Even with prior booking, confirmation #. People with none of that were getting through faster. IDK... Car got a flat tire on day two. Used Avis roadside assistance. Over the phone took a long time to complete. Service guy was there quickly and put the donut on. Didnt fix the flat. Would have been nice to get a replacement vehicle. I had to drive two more days on it, almost an hour on the interstate with an underated tire. Not cool.
I would give zero starts if that was an option. I was charged twice for a single rental and given the wrong car twice. I reserved a full size Camry and was given an suv then that was taken away and I was given some dodge car that got 7 miles a gallon in San Diego where gas is $7 a gallon. Zero care from the staff. Avis is usually great but this was the treatment you expect from a third tier rental agency. Last rental with them for sure. I’ll book my business rentals elsewhere.
Rented a vehicle for business at the San Diego Airport one hour later car broke down miss all my events for both days call roadside service at 1 o’clock did not get roadside service until the next day at 9 o’clock AM Had to get to jumps two different times so that I can drive the vehicle to Avis upon return of the vehicle to get a attitude from Customer Service there through the keys in the window because once I turned the car off the car went dead again and he could not move it, ripped off some paper off of pad told me to disputed it downstairs downstairs say cannot do nothing for you call Customer Service as of today no one has help me and I got three charges on my credit card statement not fair This was one of the worse experiences and loss of money for traveling, money on event loss on time and now loss of money on my Rental Car after all that because I had to turn the car in early I had to sit at the airport for an extra 4 1/2 hours Avis you got to do better First two pictures is my 1st tow 3rd picture is my second tow
My vehicle was schedule for the wrong pickup time, 6 hours after my flight landed, despite it being correct on my confirmation. Then it wasn’t available, even at the later time. There were no equivalents to it, but the helpful agent set aside a vehicle for me the next morning. It cost me two ride share trips though. Finally, when returning my vehicle, the person marked that it was empty, despite me filling it up immediately before returning it. I didn’t pick it up immediately because I asked for a digital receipt to save paper, but I caught it on the shuttle ride. When I called their desk, they said I had to call customer service, which isn’t open until tomorrow. The helpful agent at the beginning earned a star back, but every other aspect of this rental, save the car itself, has been a gigantic pain.
I rent with Avis three or four days a week - Only because this is the only option that my company will allow due to their negotiated rates. It is frustrating that the service is so bad across the country, that the points program is a worthless joke, and that when I rent a full-size car, you try to stick me in an intermediate SUV and tell me it’s an upgrade. If I wanted an intermediate SUV, I would rent one. If you want to offer me an upgrade because of my status, great! I’ll take a full-size SUV, a luxury sedan, or a sports car. and don’t get me started on how often I drop off a car, but it takes forever for it to get “checked in“. Then when I show up at the next city needing to rent a car, I’m not allowed and spend more time at the counter Trying to work things out.
Paid in advance. Rented a car that had been in a serious collision. Front fender wasnt in its clips on either side! Quick rental took me over an hour to get into different and not upgraded car. I didnt rent economy either! Seriously, a wrecked car that still had yellow pen pointed on dents, window, e.t.cGets worse, now they are attempting to say I smoked and damaged their car with cigarette ash on a window. We dont smoke! Their bill showed up after this review posted. $450 they claim I owe.
Rented a Budget car for the first time. Did not have a good experience using Budget car rental. I was never provided with rental contract even after picking up the car. The lady at the counter kept saying you will receive it in sometime. I contacted the phone support next day asking for my rental contract and they could not find it in the system. I had to travel all the way back to the rental car airport location to ask them what exactly happened. We missed an activity booking due to this hassle.
I rented through booking.com first I was charged for services I did not authorize. Second the odometer on my first rental agreement reads 34357 miles and upon returning the car the Avis attendant informed me the miles were incorrect and the car only has 31308 miles. There was no manager on site and even though Avis was completely empty the attendant at Avis refused to help me or explain to me how the issue could be resolved. I was charged for gasoline $90.60 even though I brought the gasoline tank full (with pictures to prove it).Customer service was horrible both at San Diego airport and in Simi Valley. I was charged by booking and then I was charged even more by Avis. Essentially I paid twice for a car I only rented for less than 14hours. I was charged 95.01 by booking.com and 116.40 by Avis for a Kia Soul and on top of that I filled up the tank with my own money 45.00 I have never felt so robbed and disappointed with a service. I clearly stated I didn’t want any extra services but I was completely ignored. I was robbed of my money and the customer service was horrid.
Car was dirty inside, we killed over 2 dozen ants that were crawling all over the seats during our day rental. Was surprised with a $250.00 deposit that I was not informed about prior to booking. They would not take my Bank Visa/Debit card for deposit (nor cash). Almost couldnt get rental because I didnt have a real credit card on me. Luckily, (and their saving grace.... for the 2 star rating) was the check-in employee who called someone to let me use my debit card.
After a long journey we arrived at San Diego international airport and headed to the assigned spot directly to pick up the car and found that I had been assigned with the wrong car at that spot. When I approached the front desk at the check-in counter, the lady was so rude and arrogant, didnt care to respond to my question and showed a very bad attitude. I respectfully asked her why the car displaying in my app (Ford Explorer) was not at the spot and requested her to check where the car is in the lot. She didnt respond whatsoever, kept working on the computer and was interrupting me while I was talking. After a long wait we got our car but it was a very painful experience!
Avis is supposed to rent to people under 25 who have USAA insurance, but this location refused to rent to us. They also told me on the phone I could use a debit card, but when we got to the location they only accepted a credit card. Not to mention the extreme phone wait times and numerous hoops just to speak to an employee who doesnt know the rules of the company. No one I talked to was helpful, and the whole experience was over all unpleasant. I will definitely not use Avis in the future for my rental car needs. The car also smelled so strongly of cigarettes it was hard to drive. Im sure no rental place is perfect, but I would advise skipping avis and looking elsewhere. Only positive experience was returning the car- took less than 10 mins which was nice.
We were stopped by the security person upon leaving the parking garage. He said our paperwork was incomplete, ordered us out of the car with our things and took the car. We were treated like criminals and missed an important appointment while being detained by incompetent Avis employees. As it turned out, the security person simply could not read the handwriting of the agent, therefor we must have been stealing that car. Disgusting awful company. They offered no compensation and just do not care.
After writing about my horrible experience with Avis in a Google review, Nicolas Scott-Boxley, the operations manager reached out to me. I provided him with all of the documents saying I was charged incorrectly and he completely ignored me. I have been over charged $147. Everyone I have talked to over the phone has said I will be getting a refund, yet 10 business days later I have nothing. I have called 6 times every call is 45 minutes. This company does not care. The customer service is trash. DO NOT USE AVIS unless you want to be ripped off. I am reporting them to the better business bureau. I am beyond annoyed.
I was charged $500 dollars, double my rental fee, for what I thought was a easy fix. I tried calling to change my return location and once it was after hours , second time language barrier and did not understand what I was trying to do .when the day came to return I called again and was told I would be charged an additional fee of $500 to return the vehicle. Horrible experience and I won’t use nor recommend this car rental business !
THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE!!My sister visited from San Francisco and needed to drive back with stuff. She doesn’t have a credit card and she not only checked online, but called the business number to verify it was ok to pay with a debit card. When we finally arrived at the building, they told her it was credit only because it was one way and a “special circumstance”. She told them she called the number to check and they said “well did you call this place? We are different.” SERIOUSLY?? So my husband used his credit card to get the rental and they proceeded to make HIM the primary driver which doesn’t make any sense because he’s not driving. Literally the worst and most inconvenient service.***ZERO STARS IF I COULD!!!***
Bad experience overall .Took A long time to get a car . 2 hours approximately. On a Monday .The guy that helped my girlfriend to get the car made her feel uncomfortable .Paid $207 dollars(1 day) for an used and in pretty bad shape Mazda plus the $200 deposit which that’s understandable. This morning we called to let them know that we were gonna be a few hours late after the dropped off time , so we started asking questions to see if that was ok or what we could do about the situation. The guy on the phone basically told us that we were going to get a $400 dollar charge for an extra day . After trying to figure out why so much we asked to speak to someone else since were were not getting clear answers , he said the managers won’t talk to you and they will tell you the same thing .In other words, they charged us over $600 dollars +taxes +other fees for 2 days.
The sign for Preferred Customers downstairs (ground level) at San Diego Airport was HUGE. I couldnt miss it. The arrow pointed upstairs at the escalators was HUGE. I couldnt miss it. However, I DID miss the massive readerboard at the top of the stairs off to the right, stating my name and slot number on it to go get my car. No suggestions, perhaps a big arrow pointing to the big readerboard at the top of the stairs for people like me?? (Mind you, I havent been to San Diego in over 30 years.) The check-out supervisor at the front desk allowed me to get my adult grown son on as an additional driver. We did not know he needed his credit card (not a debit card). We do now. so I appreciate the supervisor for allowing him to do that. Returning the car was seamless, albeit we missed the Rental Car Return off Google Maps and had to flip a u-turn. The guy at airport Return popped right in to scan the vehicle and told us where to catch the bus to get to the terminal. At 4a.m., this is without a doubt the most invaluable service Avis could provide. We did notice other non-Avis car rentals were not quite as quick. So yay for Avis!
Terrible experience. I had reservations for a vehicle but upon landing the app would not let me select a car. After 30 minutes on the phone with Avis was finally told t on head into the store. After arriving at the store I stood for 20 minutes waiting, to get to the front of the line and be told I already had a reservation and to head upstairs. Upon getting upstairs I went to use my complementary upgrade to a SUV but was told they could not do that because they don’t get the same offers the apps gets. When I asked what to do since the app would not let me confirm my selection I received shrugged shoulders. I left with a intermediate suv (not the full size suv I should have gotten) and felt like this Ford Escape has been through the trenches. The seats and console are ripped and torn, the reverse sensors are busted so when you put the vehicle in reverse the chimes never stop and the tires seem messed up as the road noise is horrendous. Do better Avis!
They wanted to charge us for an unfilled tank, even though we had filled it up 15min before the car was dropped off, as well as charge us for a $250 insurance, which we had already paid for in advance in Germany. Luckily we still had the receipt from the gas station. The problem with the insurance could not be solved until now, because the unprofessional staff could only forward us to the service hotline, which had already closed. Never again.
Staff at the drop off put their chats first before helped customers. We have lost the wallet in the car but staff were relentant to find it and expected us to file the loss online instead. They were chatting to each others or using their cellphones. After back to home, we have to replace the driver license, credit card, and change all the autopay with a new credit card number. However, 2 days later, we were informed by Avis that the wallet was found in the car 😡It would save us a lots of money and trouble if the staff had worked as they should be to help customer.
My wife and I rented a Mustang convertible to drive from San Diego to Sacramento touring the mountains etc over a ten day period. When I checked the vehicle at rental in San Diego I noticed the tires were new. I didnt however look at the rear tires until we were deep into the mountains along Big Sur. As you can see in the photos they were completely bald. The tire shop said less than 2/32 inch tread remained and you can clearly see in the photos that there were pieces of the thin remaining tread peeling up and showing further cracks and tears. The repair in the receipt was NOT made to the area pictured that was in a different area. We ended up with a flat in Pacifica and the tire shop owner nor I could believe you had sent us thru the mountains with these tires. In addition the windows wouldnt seal closed (also pictured). Which mean we couldnt leave anything in the car, ever. When we finally reached a location near San Francisco we exchanged the car for another. This was the best vacation of our lives only to be ruined by the piece of junk you gave us in San Diego. If either one of those rear tires had blown in Big Sur and sent us over the rail you would be answering a 50 million dollar suit from our 6 children. I am so angry and disappointed with your company yet I cant help but be grateful that we werent injured. We paid $1,142.98 to rent this vehicle and I couldnt be more disappointed.**** I have read the response from Avis, this is my reply. Being apologetic is good, you can make up for the disappointing experience but then you would have to refund some of my money. (bad for profits) I didnt contact you to relay the difficulties I had, I posted this review so others wouldnt be fooled and you replied to it. I tried to contact Avis customer care but kept getting caught in your long menu where no human can be reached. I had to argue back and forth with roadside care over a three day period just to get the $45 dollars that I spent having the tire fixed. I havent heard any corporate response to my complaint at all. I and others have a choice for who we rent from and I dont want anyone else making the same mistake we did but they probably will. I wont use Avis again.
Did not buy any refueling plan- agreed to drop off car full. Receipt when dropping off car full of gas had $58 for fuel service in addition to my prepaid amount. Showed attendant who only agreed to remove it after she talked to her manager and I showed her that the car was full of gas. CHECK YOUR RECEIPT BEFORE LEAVING THE CAR! They clearly do this to everyone hoping most people don’t notice. I’ve had this with avis before and the phone tree goes in circles to avoid helping you with this because they know what they’re doing.
I rented a car from Avis to go out of town for a business trip and I had the most horrible experience in my entire life with a rental car agency, The first car they gave me battery died, The second car check engine light came on and I had to bring the car back, The third car they gave me to replace when I went out of town the tire blew and I had to pay out-of-pocket to get the tire fixed. When I brought the car back the supervisor was extremely disrespectful and made me feel as though it was my fault that the car was not working properly. There was only one employee that helped me and assist me and I apologize profusely for the inconvenience his name was David. However I told David I would never rent another car from Avis because of this situation.
Avis need to do something about their base at San Diego airport. Over an hour wait to pick up a pre-ordered car. It had not been cleaned, smelt foul and still had the previous occupants sandals and used face mask under the seat. We left another customer arguing with the staff about a minibus they had booked that wasnt available. All in all, a very unimpressive and, frankly, unpleasant experience.
Based on this experience, its definitely 5 stars. I rented a car for 3 days, expecting to pick up something like a Camry or similar. I landed and got some dumb, lame, Mitsubishi outlander or something. Im not gonna drive that thing around come on! Anyways, I went to pick my car in the app, and I had a complimentary upgrade to a freaking Camaro convertible!!!! So I dont know if it was Avis as the big company, or Avis San Diego, but regardless, Avis San Diego gave me this car. I also asked to extend the rental at the desk, and the rep was super helpful and friendly and made everything quick and easy. The only issue I had was having to go to the desk to ask for another car because the original Camaro I was assigned smelled like smoke. But thats really a small issue considering they gave me another one, and I used the opportunity to extend it anyways.
Live in Ireland. Always book through avis.co.uk, no matter where in the world I am travelling, and book their all inclusive rate. This time it was San Diego CA. Always cheaper than competitors basic rate. No pressure at the counter, pick up drop off 5 minutes each. Cars alway very clean and fairly new.
Just returned an Avis car from the San Diego airport location May 24.. The car I got was nice for the two weeks I had it and I would have given an excellent review but when I picked up the car the gas gauge was a bit under F but I figured that it was probably a gauge problem. When I returned the car I filled it up and even topped it off a mile from the car rental deposit. Even after topping it off it was still a bit under F. The woman receiving the car told me that she wouldn’t charge me a whopping $25 fee because it was only a hair under F. I explained that I had just topped it off and couldn’t get the gauge any higher. She came back with the bill that charged $25. Avis and future renters, please check my burgundy Ford Edge out for a defective gas gauge. Otherwise this is an unfair scheme to get an extra $25.
I rented a car in San Diego, Pre paid it. Upon return the gas tank was full. I told the agent not to give me fuel charge. Its happened to me every rental. He said he was taking to off. I was then charged $22.74 later that day on my CC. I am done using AVIS they are crooks. Now they say I have to make copies of my bank statement to send to them to prove that they stole money form me. Corporate greed.
Way more than horrible. When returning the car, they bring the keys back to check miles and put it into the car. However, after I leave, they say the key is missed and want to charge me hundreds on keys. Book with company account and get charged into my personal card.Google, please enable negative star rating. Thank you.
The first car was dirty, sticky and smelly inside. I exchanged it after two days. The second car was also not clean. The cost is outrageously expensive for these cheap cars. I used to be convinced of Avis, today I would not book Avis anymore and would not recommend it to anyone else. Unfortunately it was very disappointing.
I didnt realize until I drove off the lot that the car I was given by Avis had NO GAS. I was told by the manager when I returned the car that I would be reimbursed within two weeks for filling the tank. It has been over a month and I have still not received my reimbursement. When I try to contact the manager on the ground at the San Diego airport, I am redirected into a national phone tree and told that they can do nothing to assist me. This is unacceptable service, and I wont be renting from Avis again. Ii would give zero stars if I could.
Was cheated for 541 USD at this place. They included some optional extras at the time of picking up the car without even telling me. Im really disappointed and now 541 poorer.I had a fully prepaid rental. I saw they held this when I booked but always assumed I would get it back
The billing rate was changed at the counter without informing me during the pickup of the vehicle and I was delayed on the drop off of the vehicle due to being assessed a split bill for the upcharge. The guy at the drop off bay was rude when I asked what split billing means or why I had to go to the rental counter. I was delayed an extra 20 minutes on my way to catch my flight.
Guess Im not the only one with issues. Not only have they not provided a receipt from my 1st week of rental they didnt give me the 2nd one either. Ive tried looking up my reservation/confirmation number and they dont have it, so I called, its been 45 mins and no answer. They also dont bother to include the $200 of incidentals they take anywhere on the receipt so my company is asking about an extra $200 Im including in my reimbursement report. Not to mention they took and additional $200 in the rental renewal so now its $400 I need reimbursed. Still waiting. Oh and Ive compared the prices these guys are over priced. Paid $1496 for a KIA Sportage. A Chevy Tahoe, full sized V8 SUV is at the same rate at Enterprise. Whats up with that? Rather than helping a local at San Diego they added a bunch of tourist fees and all the possible insurance options/fees without asking me as well. Lastly, this is the ONLY business I know so far that only takes a credit card and no other form of payment. How absurd is that!? Like are you trying to make money or not?
Charged me for additional services that I was told was included in my purchase and the pre auth was just for extras in the case of fuel etc (witness was there as proof). I was also charged fuel on a vehicle I returned with full gas and gave recipts to back this up! Avoid like the plague!I also paid for a SatNav and received a broken unit. I was told tethering was included with the SatNav however this is false and is charged extra without my knowledge! Again I was informed this was all included in the SatNav fee I paid BA! Lies and deception! I was also not told that any fees were due at time of the return. The total dues even shows 0 on the receipt. I will be contacting BA and my bank in regards to this!
We were not allowed an additional driver whose age is under 25. We have never come across this rule in 7+ years of renting cars. Also, dont expect to receive the car you reserved as it depends on the availability on the day you are actually picking up. The car we rented was great, made the road trip very convenient, safe and reliable.. 10/10 would recommend again
Just the worst for lack of price transparency and tacking on fees. The rental agent said he was ‘hooking me up with an ‘upgrade’ without any mention that i would be paying extra. The agent also said ‘do you want premium insurance or just base’ with no mention of the decline option so i said base thinking that meant i was declining whatever upsell he was trying to add on. Then i saw that he added the option for $30 per day and had to listen to the ‘we strongly recommend blah blah’ schpeel to get him to remove it. Also not happy to see the bill at return was an extra $50 a day above what was quoted in the reservation on expedia due to FIVE different fees, in addition to regular sales tax.
Rude service by the checkout attendant at the San Diego Airport. Because Avis had the wrong license plates on their vehicle, the attendant accused me of taking the wrong vehicle. Although the vehicle description and lot location matched the email that Avis sent me. She was very annoyed and made a big deal about it.
Avis never seems to want to actually use the express exit QR code option they have installed. I get texts to try it, the app encourages it. The machines are installed at most/all the locations. Once again, I got to wait in line while someone on a paper contract needed manager assistance, no quick exit lane was provided. Please fix this.
The staff were kind & helpful for my particular situation but the car & its mechanics was frightening for single senior woman. 2 hours into my drive it sent a message that the car needed to go to a service center. The first agent suggested I should call Road Service for assistance. Now I am suppose to interrupt my vacation sitting on the freeway in the heat waiting for service!!
As UF employee, it is very easy to rent and return car and the price is very good too but for longer time rental (>3 days), they will recommend to buy insurance and it is quite expensive. They dont require you to fill the tank before you return it but dont know how they charge it.
It was terrible, we have had insurance by Travelocity, but at the airport we are pushed to take the same insurance by Avis. Avis said we can cancel the insurance by Travelocity, if not Avis will cancel the insurance. But Travelocity can not cancel for us because we took it already in 03/2022, and then Avis said that Avis can not cancel for us too, so we have to pay 2 times for insurance.
Called customer service about extending the reservation for one hour and agent confirmed it. His name was Henry at SD airport. At least that’s what he said, when I got to LaX no notes were in the system and I was charged extra hour. Called Sd airport and was told that no one knows Henry, can’t listen to recorded calls and can’t help. Terrible customer service. lAX rep was saying “I can split the different” and charge you 50% of that. What type of negotiations are these. Extremely unprofessional.
Great friendly service, people here help you with getting the vehicle that you need and try their best to get you into the vehicle you need, Ramon helped us in the Airport location and was very helpful and got us exactly what we needed, I will definitely come back to rent from this location.
Realized we left something in rental when we checked in at airport. I immediately called and was told I could either go back to counter or file an online post and found report. No way to speak with local counter staff or ask them to locate item or request it to be mailed. Very unhelpful customer service over the phone.
We had an amazing experience with Avis! The facility was spotless and well-organized. The staff were so helpful and friendly! We upgraded our rental and got a convertible..... it absolutely changed our vacation! We drove from San Diego up the highway all the way to San Francisco; it was an awesome drive! We were better able to enjoy the sights along the coast and the mountains in the convertible Mustang. Im grateful to the staff at Avis for helping to make this happen for us!!
Thanks to Avis San Diego Airport (& Esteban @ Avis Reception Counter!!) - thanks for one of THE most enjoyable & memorable business trips I’ve had in the last 10 years & fulfilling 1 of my bucketlist dreams. Simply awesome! Avis, thanks for having the vision & insight to offer such amazing cars at affordable prices - Thank-You!
I was charged around $400 of unrecoverable fees and declined damage loss waiver, but somehow it has been accepted. The man at the check in behaved like a shady salesman, as the company overall. I specifically said that I decline everything, and he confirmed that, but apparently the damage waiver was secretly accepted. The car itself was dusty.
This is my second time renting from this location. My first visit was excellent! This time around the car was definitely not cleaned before I received it. The outside was nice and the interior was OK however During my rental I found cans of alcohol as well as drug cartridges that were under the seats and they rolled out while I was driving. I can only imagine how horrible it would’ve looked if I were pulled over and an officer saw that. Avis please do better.
I was very disappointed with the service I experienced upon checking out the vehicle at San Diego Int. Airport. The representative was condescending and borderline rude. She quickly asked about additional insurance. I responded that I wanted the contract the same way I reserved it, no additional insurance. I viewed the contract summary on a screen and was asked to sign. I took a moment to review it and found that I was being charged for additional insurance. I asked her to removed it. She responded that I said yes when she asked about the insurance. I told her I was answering yes to keep the contract the same way that I reserved and pre-paid. She then added the next time I am asked just say declined. I was then issued a large hybrid vehicle: full-size van rather the the car I was expecting, which I did see one in your parking lot. Perhaps this was a punishment for the interaction we just had. In addition, the vehicles oil change due soon light was on. It became a nuisance during the 10 days I had it. I just expected better from this Avis. I must say my check in experience at Sacramento Int. Airport was very quick and pleasant.
Check in was quick and easy as well as returning car.Reserved the car online, was able to go in to rental counter give my information and basically walk right out with key.Returning was even quicker. Drove into the garage, an employee came over did a quick scan, printed out my receipt, done!I use a walker, the same employee graciously offered to help me get to the shuttle with my suitcase. She was very helpful and I truly appreciated her help.
Rented 1st car in Detroit for 10 days and San Diego with return to LAX : Avis employees were very professional and gracious. The cars in excellent conditions, clean, fresh.Only one little thing: radio reception was not great at first in the Californie rental... we figured out later we needed to install the antenna on the car... Then it was much better.Other than that, all OK.
I felt like my experience went well, the car was available. Expect the talk of the need to have additional insurance, my advice to you is to know what your personal policy covers while in a rental car. Be careful agreeing to prepay for gas at return, it may not benefit you if the car isnt returned on fumes. Overall a great experience. I even left my cell phone behind. The associates took the time to help me find it. I was very appreciative.
I would give ZERO stars!!! I had reserved a mini van since I was traveling with my handicap parents. Upon arrival to counter I was told no mini vans were available. Yet, standing in front of employee I was able to go online, and it was showing minivans available. I was told it was a system issue. I told them a big difference between mini van , and SUV when transporting. I was told no other options just try it. So I was put in a gas hog V8 SUV. We had to buy a stool to try to get parents in. I called AvIS everyday from our vacation. Received NO help!!! Our entire trip was ruined. My mother cried every time trying to get her up in SUV. Icing on cake...upon returning car (after topping it off at full at gas station on corner before rental return, paid big bucks at that station) , the employee scanned bar code, handed me receipt. While on escalator going down I see I was levied a $98 fuel charge!!! With bogus information saying car went out with 26 gallons returned with 16. I got back on the up escalator hailed down the same man this time he got in vehicle started it, and saw it was full wrote on receipt, and told me to go to ticket counter for adjustment. How much $$$$ is AVIS SCREWING hurried airport travelers out of.
We rented a car from San Diego to LAX for a week. The pick up experience felt pushy of the things we declined, and the suggestion to prepay the fuel would have been an exorbitant expense. This was pushed in away that felt sleazy and as if the clerk thought we were gormless. There are a lot of options to purchase fuel in the last few miles before LAX. We used Google Maps and Gas Buddy and both showed a great many gas stations en route to the Avis drop off location. The clerk in San Diego said that it wasnt easy to find gas stations on the way to the drop off location in LAX.When we dropped off the vehicle we were treated superbly, like intelligent valued customers. I guess they didnt need to sell us anything!
David is the worst!Yesterday I had one of the worst customer service experiences in my life!I was traveling from Mexico City where I booked my rental thru a 3rd party. Upon arriving David asked for my Mexican drivers license to complete the booking. I showed him my Us drivers license, travel documents and the address on my account/credit card which all are California (where I’m renting the car).Upon seeing my American Express card he questioned if it was actually mine. Then proceeded to tell me i would not be renting a car from Avis without a Mexican drivers license. After an 1.5 hrs on the phone with a customer service rep (who was extremely kind and confused by my interactions) she spoke with David. David told her that regardless of what she says he was not releasing a car to me without a Mexican license. Then when she suggested we cancel the resveratuin and start another, he replied “that should be an obvious thing why would I need to suggest that to him?!” She was baffled and asked if there was something personal going on that was preventing him from giving me the Avis standard of customer service. The other employees were also completely baffled by his continued rudeness and lack of empathy toward me the situation or the agent on the phone. After 3 hours of waiting I wasn’t able to get a car anywhere as SAN doesn’t allow same day rentals which means I had to sleep at the airport overnight until they opened again this morning and I was able to get a car from a different location.People like David are miserable with themselves and the life they’ve created fro themselves. Instead of taking ownership it’s easier for him to project his frustrations onto others. This is not the type of person that should be in face to face customer service let alone a PM Lead/manager.
I returned my car at LAX at 5am in the morning in the cold rain. There wasnt anyone around to hand me a check-in receipt. Days after I returned home I started getting emails saying I hadnt returned the car. I called customer service and they made a note that I had called and stated I returned the car. A couple days later, I got a certified letter stating that I would never be able to rent from Avis again. I was never proactively contacted by Avis to be notified that they had found the car that I had returned; I had to call to ask. Only after calling customer service after receiving the letter I learned they found the car and everything was resolved. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with a rental car company. I would never recommend Avis to a friend or colleague.Follow up edit: Avis replied to this review asking me to email them with my rental contract number. I did and then they replied back that I didn’t give them enough information to help them with my problem. Yet another disappointing interaction with this company. Rates were over $100/day and they still can’t afford good service
They have fast talking sales reps that try to sell you everything under the Sun and that dont answer questions clearly. Not to mention the excessive amount of fees and taxes, but I guess all the rental companies do that now. When I arrived at the vehicle, the plate numbers did not match, so they gave me another vehicle and this one was dirty and I did not have time to have them clean it or switch to another car. Also The sales rep told me that the gasoline that they offer was at a better price than what was out in the city and that was not true. I am hoping that one day I will have a completely positive experience from a car rental company.
The San Diego Airport location gave us a car with tires in awful condition that ended up going flat(no spare tire) and stranding us in the middle of nowhere. Both front tires were on their last thread, one even had metal starting to show on the inner rim of the tire (see pics). I had to spend over an hour with Avis roadside assistance in order to get them to figure out a solution. We then waited over and hour for a tow truck to pick us and the car up and drive us 45 minutes (backtracking) to the nearest Avis location so we could take a different car. Because this added about 4 hours to our trip from San Diego to Boise, Idaho, Avis had to extend our contract duration/time... and they tried to charge us extra for having extend the time. We had to fight with Avis customer service at the Boise Airport for an hour to get them to take the extra charge off. The customer service at Boise Airport was no help at all. The only thing the employee could tell us is there is nothing he could do and kept giving me different phone numbers to call (all of which were automated calls that led me nowhere). I asked if he could help by calling a supervisor or different department and he said he isnt allowed to. When I asked him exactly what he is there to do, he replied by saying his job is to just work there. No help whatsoever!
The car was clean and in good working order. The desk staff were attentive and courteous. They were genuinely concerned about my needs and my rental experience. They helped me at turn-in by reminding me about the bags in the back of the car, and they helped me with directions on how to get to the rental car shuttle. Great job, Avis!
Went to this place to pick a reserved car. The place is ran like a factory that needs to hit cycle time. No one behind me in line but clerk is pushy and going too fast. Doesnt answer questions and instead tells me to wait as it will be revealed in due time. But by then you have charged your card (hold amount) already. This is not a professional way to answer questions with adults. I also found the front desk to need some training to better answer basic questions. Finally I never received my contract which was supposed to be emailed to me so that I can drive with it! I actually returned the car and still dont have a receipt. I know my email is on file because I saw it on their display unit when I returned the car. Driving without a contract! And I have to call your call center for the receipt. You gotta do better than this guys.
Avis has given me great impressions over several car rentals in multiple cities. There was a longer wait than expected for a 6am pickup at the new to me rental car center at SAN, but the kindness of their representative made up for the wait with two people ahead of us. The van was exactly what we needed, it was easy to find, and the woman at the exit booth was also wonderful. E-mail paperwork is a very nice touch, though the documents come as attachments, and it was seemingly forgotten for my drop off receipt. We received a decent rate and free second driver via Costco Travel.
I was charged more than what I was supposed to pay when I booked it. I booked it January 13-17 8am picked up. I was sent to get my rental at San Diego Airport when my pick up was supposed to be in chula vista. They called me the Wednesday ate afternoon telling me that they dont have an SUV their and just to go to the airport Thursday which was my pick up day. And I asked him if it going to be the same amount and car, he said yes. Everything will be the same. Then when I returned the car, I was charge with fuel fee when I returned it full (it was not even full when I picked it up, and told the lady at checked out). Then I was over charge it was supposed to be $352.18, they charge me $542.81. They said it I returned it too late so thats why I was charge more. I returned the suv jan 16 at 7pm. How was that late? Then I have to pay all the taxes and fees since it was at the airport. They wont honor, the quote I got from Costco. They were passing me around to different customer service when I called about this issue.
Rented a car and explicitly denied the additional insurance since my credit card and personal car insurance both cover me for rentals. Rep at counter agreed and let me know they werent able to print out the rental agreement due to printer issues but it would be e-mailed to me in the next few minutes. I left with the car and never got an e-mail. Called Avis the next day to ask about it; was told they dont e-mail rental agreements but would get an e-mail when returning the car. When I got the e-mail, I saw additional charges for insurance. Called to get refund, and they offered me 50% off those charges... Guess thats part of their business model. Scam you into additional charges and offer you 50% back. DO NOT LEAVE without the rental agreement and verify they didnt add anything extra. Better yet, go with someone else. Rented from Avis exclusively (where available), but wont be doing that anymore.
Bad experience. First time visiting San Diego so rented a car through Avis. Was never informed of the shuttle which changes the dynamic of how I would have reserved the car. Now Im paying through 10/2 when I will be dropping it off a day early so I dont have to worry about missing my flight. Spoke with a rep about this and rather than trying to assist or even explain anything they were not professional and just continued to refer me to their website. If I wanted to use their website I wouldnt have called.
Horrible vehicle. Damage to the interior, dirty, and had an overwhelming smoke smell. Took five (!!) phone calls to get ahold of someone who could actually make a note in my account the the vehicle was a dud so I could avoid being charged for it. Completely unable to directly contact the airport rental desk and was forced to use a call center full of people unable to actually help by making a simple note. Wasnt even asking for a refund or swap out. Then, after returning, I get an additional $475 charge on my card. After examining the receipt, the rate was simply changed for no reason. No one on the phone could explain what happened or why the rate was different then my repaid amount. Thank God I kept the receipt. Took days on the phone with no progress. I initiated a charge back and Avis fixed it in three hours. Very cool to not take the time to care for my concern. Absolute disaster and will never use Avis again.**EDIT** Cant say Im surprised, but I reached out per the owners instructions below and never received a response. Typical of Avis. Its impossible to contact them. Would recommend avoiding them.
I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.I rented a car because my car was in the shop. I was told from my repair shop that it would not be ready until around 3pm. My rental was due by 1030am. When I called to extend my rental the first person did not want to answer a question, so he hung up on me. I called back and spoke to a new person. He stated that the cost would be an extra $125. I told them that is insane and asked to speak to his manager. I spoke to a person named Robert he was rude and was not helpfully at all. He just told me take it or leave it. This is not right at all. This is taking advantage of people.
Excellent experience! Received the exact vehicle that we booked online. We were even given different colors to choose from. There was no pressure to purchase any additional features. There was a pending charge of $100 for about 5 days on my credit card (in the event of incidentals I assume), but fell off after those 5 days. Check in and check out process was also very smooth. Both only took about 5-10 minutes at the absolute most. Also, my girlfriend was added as a driver for free which was really nice.
The customer service was nothing short of amazing & relaxing! Both service agents we checked the car out from, and checked back into with, were so helpful! The whole process was so easy. Also, Ive been with e enterprise for almost 10 years, & Ill never go back to them. Avis was the best in every category, hands down.
FIRST, A SHOUT OUT TO JORGE AT THE SAN DIEGO AIRPORT AVIS. HE WAS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS IVE EVER BEEN SERVICED BY. HE WAS VERY HELPFUL IN HELPING ME GET A RENTAL. I DIDNT HAVE A RESERVATION, SO I ASKED HIM IF IT WAS NECESSARY AND HE SAID NOT TO WORRY. I WAS SET ON RENTING A MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE, WHICH THEY HAD. JORGE MUST ME A CHEVY GUY, BECAUSE HE RECOMMENDED A NICE BLACK 2020 CAMARO THEY HAD THERE, AND MAN WAS IT SUCH A SWEET RIDE. GOT LOTS OF COMPLIMENTS DRIVING AROUND WITH THE TOP DOWN. JORGE JUST BLESSED AVIS WITH A NEW LOYAL CUSTOMER. THANKS AGAIN JORGE/AVIS
Excellent service, flawless in every way. Excellent systems that streamline the entire process and remove delays and any irritations. Great experience beginning, during and after.Again in July 2019 - perfect experience plus accommodating my request for a change to a seven passenger, very high demand car. Super customer service by every staff person.
I returned my vehicle tank full, the attendant checking me out did not mention that they saw anything but a full tank and did not print out a receipt for me but mentioned I would receive an email (which I could not open on my phone due to Adobe format) later when I can open up the receipt on my laptop; I see that I was charged an extra $35.33 Fuel Service and they marked my tank a 7/8 not 8/8. It was a work rental so I have a picture of the gas receipt where I filled up that tank 6.2 miles away 15 minutes earlier. I cannot stand when rental car companies try to sneak in fraudulent charges, this rental car itself was perfect.
I cant leave zero stars. The Manager at the Avis rental at the San Diego airport should be released from duty for lack of compassion, no common courtesy, no respect for mankind, and quite frankly, for not even being a reliable resource for his team. I will NEVER rent from this company again.
The rental I received was DIRTY inside and out. I was in a rush and grabbed what you offered. Not your fault for my tardiness but the car could and should have been washed and sanitized inside and out! I had to get it washed before I drove into the reception I was only slightly embarrassed. I would NEVER recommend AVIS to any of my friends.
I rented through Costco travel and they did not honor the price.I returned car full - had gas receipt and picture of full gauge. They charged me for gas. They charged for insurance that I did not (explicitly said I did not) want.Called customer service - on hold 30 min. After getting my reservation number - they went silent on the phone. I hung up and called back… another 30 minutes…Agent said yes I did return it full. And they refunded insurance. This is all way too shady. I will never do Avis again!
I needed to pick vehicle up at the most inopportune time, 1:00am. To my surprise, Avis was open 24-hour operation where an attendant was visible and ready to provide excellent customer service unlike neighboring car rental companies. Vehicles were available... No wait time...Amazing Quality Service especially at wee hours of the morning.
Unfortunately, the service representative provided misleading information when asked if I could make a split payment with two different credit cards. This resulted in her swiping my card (4) times until my account was depleted. Now my funds are unavailable as a pending transaction, and I do not have money for my family during Christmas. When I called customer service, I was told theres nothing they could do except wait 3 to 5 business days to see if the money returns to my bank account. This could have all been avoided if the service representative at the Fresno airport (Dominique) was better trained.
The person really updated me into a car that was way more expensive 400 dollars more. My fault for allowing it, but he told me it would only be 75 more not75 more daily. The car also needed an oil change so the light came on the entire time. They wanted me to take it to an avis store that would have taken 3 hours of my time. Eventhough I paid for xmradio the upgraded vehicle didnt have it after filling the car 25 gallon tank full and it said it was full they still tried to charge me 40 dollars for gas. Luckily I did get that charge taken off.
I rented a car from San Diego airport. It was a good experience. The agent that helped me said he would assist me in extending my rental as I was uncertain of how long I would need the car. My brother was having a major surgery and I knew if would be longer than a week. The agent gave me his direct phone # and email to help me extend. I tried multiple times to contact him through phone and email. Never was able to connect with him. I took another avenue to extend and it worked just fine but that agent should never have assured me of his help. The car was great and I would rent from Avis again and recommend. Drop off was very smooth.
Beware of the agents. I was scammed into driving away a more expensive car than Id reserved and signed up for. Dont leave the rental location without a full set of signed paperwork as that is one sign something fishy is going down. When I complained about the size of the bill at the rental return I was redirected to customer service where they gave me an email address which doesnt work, it returns my emails as I deliverable.Update 11/29/2021: After initially refusing to take any action Avis HQ has said they will refund the amount I feel is an overcharge.
I rescheduled an online reservation. I still got charged $180. I got chargeed an extra $23$ for no reason one week after the rental. Not happy for getting extra charges for what I did not use. And paid for the truck I rented that almost did not get us home. The truck that we rented had issues. It got picked up before return date by tow truck. Not happy. Did not feel safe in the tundra you rented us. The truck was not safe to drive.
I’ve been an Avis Preferred member for years. I prepaid for a vehicle months in advance and set the pick up time an hour before I landed. When I arrived at the Avis Preferred pick up area, my name wasn’t on the board and there was a long line of people waiting to speak to a service person. After 40 mins, Kimberly was assisting me. She was terrible…after I asked a few basic yet important questions very politely, “Do you have a car for me? How long do you think it might be before a car is ready? What are my options?” She basically shut down on me, wouldn’t respond and wouldn’t look at me. She treated me like I didn’t exist…for 25 mins. Kimberly stuck me in a tiny vehicle that was supposed to fit three people with small luggage but had to stack bags in the fourth seat in the back, and up-charged me $80 on top of it which I later had to dispute with corporate. To top it all off, I waited another 40 mins for the car to show up so I was late getting to my destination. Disorganized, dysfunctional, unprofessional.
If there is 0, they deserve it. Not the hard working people, but the management. As Preferred Plus member, I experienced so many occasions of arrived with no car available. All type of excuses from their customer service, the manager also had bad attitude as well. If you have a contract with customer and you cannot deliver it, admit it, and try to get it resolved. If they keep on bringing excuses, they will never find way to resolve the issue. Horrible management and bad customer service
Well it seems as though every time I rent a vehicle, I have to exchange what they assigned me for another vehicle. Each one has smelled horribly of smoke or cigarettes. The last one, a Chrysler 300, even had such a gaudy appearance I would have stood out like a sore thumb; maroon with chrome everywhere is not everyones cup of tea and definitely not always considered an upgrade. Staff has been helpful for the most part. I just dont understand why they think spraying massive amounts of air fresheners will cover up the so-called non-smoking vehicles interior smell....
Im offended by the counter clerks venture into corporate invoice padding. Every question is designed to get me to spend more money, whether the option has any value or not. Its incredibly insulting. They present only the options that add on to the bill, so that you have to listen and provide them with a different option that they didnt provide. Id prefer a clerk who helped me get to the car that I paid for online, not another used car salesman. It leaves a stain on your reputation.
Im disappointed by the car allocation and also the service by Avis representative at the San Diego airport. I booked a minivan as there is no explicit option for an 8 seater. I called Avis customer care and asked to put a note for an 8 seater. When we arrived at the location, we were offered a Odyssey but at an additional cost of $150 for our trip of 4 days. This is ridiculous. On top of that, we were allocated a Dodge Caravan with pilot seats in the middle row. THIS IS RIDICULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CHEATING TO NOT SHOW THE OTPION OF 8 SEATER AT THE TIME OF BOOKING AND NOT ALLOCATING EVEN WHEN THERE IS AVAILABILITY. I WILL NEVER BOOK THROUGH AVIS AGAIN AND WILL RECOMMEND AGAINST AVIS TO ALL MY FRIENDS. AT THE TIME OF BOOKING, THERE IS NO OPTION AT ALL TO BOOK AN 8 SEATER AT THE TIME OF BOOKING AND I BOOKED A MINI VAN WITH THE ASSUMPTION OF 8 SEATER OR ATLEAST PROPER 7 SEATER WITH FULL MIDDLE ROW.
Super angry about this rental company! We rented a car for 11 days. We told the agent we did not want any coverage and he still added insurance in our contract! We specifically said we are a military family and we already have rental coverage on our own. After a long flight we got to San Diego Airport on Oct 28. At 11am we went to Avis office, our agent was a young guy sitting at the first desk starting from the left. We told him we decline any insurance, but he still added on the contract THIS IS FRAUD! I called the call center to explain the situation and the agent that took my call was ruthless and hang up un me!I WANT MY MONEY BACK!
Dishonest representatives.I recently rented a vehicle from Avis at the San Diego Airport rental facility. The Avis representative was very friendly and helpful, until I declined add-ons such as accidental-damage coverage and pre-paid gasoline. His demeanor immediately changed and you could tell that he was disappointed.I explicitly instructed him not to add any of these add-ons yet, lo and behold, what did I find when I returned the vehicle (with a full tank of gas)? The Avis dude had added a gasoline upcharge even though I explicitly instructed him not to add any of that stuff. Now Ill have to waste my time calling Avis to dispute this charge. I speculate that their agents are incentivized/compensated for those add-ons, based off of how his attitude changed the moment I declined those charges.Sorry for the negative review, Avis, but it appears that your compensation model is incentivizing some shady behavior from some of your agents (at least the one I interacted with).
Samsom was very patience, polite and knowledgeable about customer service. We didnt have to wait for an available car. He knew what we need and made things run faster for us. The returning was so quick, that I could catch my flight on time. I am very pleased with your service and I will come back for sure.
The young man that assisted me with my rental was extremely professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I had misplaced my car rental information and was unsure what company I had booked my rental. Being pressed for time and after checking with 4 other car rental places, the young man at the counter made what could have been a disastrous start to my day a wonderful day.
Came here on 4/9/2021 around 11 AM. I looked at reservations online for Budget, got there and the sign said to go to the counter at Avis to be assisted. I had just previously come from a different rental car company after being told the car we reserved was not available. The woman (she had big bushy curly hair) working was extremely rude and I have never been treated the way she treated me. She doesn’t greet me or anything just asks me if I’m with Budget or Avis and if I have a reservation. I say I wanted to rent from Budget and no reservation because I wanted to reserve directly from her to make sure I would get the correct car. She would not even let me explain my situation, just says “Well I can’t help you. Our prices are extremely high you probably wouldn’t want to rent from us.” Who says that?! She could’ve at least helped me out and told me the prices before assuming I could not afford to rent a car from there. I don’t know if it was racially motivated or what, but she just decided by looking at me that I wouldn’t be able to afford a rental there without even letting me get a word out. BTW, I looked at the prices online and they were definitely something I could afford. It wasn’t even about price at that moment, I just wanted a rental car!I ended up going to Enterprise and getting in and out in 10 minutes. They had around the same prices that Budget did online and were very happy to help me.TO THE RUDE WOMAN AT THE AVIS COUNTER -please let people speak before you just assume they can’t afford something. All I wanted to do was reserve a car through you directly.
Sleezy sales person name David working for Avis at San Diego Airport location. Avoid him, he will try to scam you. Look over your agreement carefully. After I returned my car (that I booked online) which had unlimited miles, he added mile charge on the agreement. He tried to up sale which I dont mind, but scamming me by adding cost of upgrade car plus my original reservation, basically he tried to charge me for 2 car rental price. When I asked him how my price is more than tripled the cost? He told me that online was just an estimate and taxes were high in San Diego. Lol, goes from $79 to $287 a compact car for 10 hour rental...yeah right!! He did this not once but twice, after I declined is when he added the mile charges which I did not see until I returned the car. He must get his kicks from ripping people off. Do yourself a favor, find another company to rent from.
I left some expensive headphones in the car. We got to the gate at the airport before I realized. I rushed out of the airport and took a shuttle back to Avis, and at this time only 45 minutes had passed. I tried going directly to who checked my car back in and they would not allow that. I was directed to speak to a manager at the premier check in. I explained what had happened and that I had to rush back to the gate so it would help if they could take me to the car. They would not do this. They had me wait 15 minutes while making radio communications with other employees to only tell me that I had to file an online lost and found report and they would mail them to me. I barely made it back in time to my flight.Result- The next day they emailed saying they had not been found.
I had made a mistake and my car reservation was actually for a different location. I didnt know this until we arrived to pick up our car. The person who helped us was extremely understanding and compassionate and assisted us in getting the perfect vehicle. It really couldnt have turned out better. Outstanding service! Will definitely recommend this rental car service to others and come back again! Thank you!
We had flown in from Dallas Texas October 6 2021 about 9:45 pm shuttle to Avis and told us they didn’t have our reservation so we asked to rent car from the night of October 6 and bring back October 10 before boarding cruise line at 3 . They said $745 plus deposit. So I’m Celebrating my 50 th Bday oct 6 and my husband hands him his license credit card and on the left end the license had a small piece chewed by our 7 lb dog and he says I have ask the manager. Well he said no so we offered passports too and still no. So now we have no car for our vacation time and we went thru airports to Mexico customs several times in in the year and not one person has denied his license because it still has all numbers dates pictures nothing is even on the left corner. So very disappointed. And y’all also lost$745 for a few days . We were customers and will never use y’all again. Very rude customer service!!!
First, I was charged $250 for a 1 day rental. $250? For a large SUV. THis fee is ridiculous. Secondly, when I called to ask about returning my car to a different location, I was told that would not be a problem and I could return it at ANY Avis location. I WAS NOT TOLD there would be a $500 charge to do this. So I get a ridiculous charge. $857 for a 1 day rental when you add all the other fees??? No confirmation email was sent to me regarding this 1 way charge? There was no communication throughout this experience about any additional charges. No final invoice was emailed to me. I just saw the charge on my credit card. I am never going to rent from Avis again.
The car was great, the pick up process was so easy but the return process and the claim that I did not completely fill the gas tank was unacceptable. The service person responding to my claim was not acceptable in their canned responses. It was clear they were not using common sense or logic with regard to how far the vehicle was driven against the amount of gas in the car and the gas receipt itself. I doubt I will ever use Avis again based on this experience and I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years.
My son helped us make reservation. He placed my name but the Drivers License and credit card payment was under my husband as he was going to drive. It was very frustrating as this became a huge problem and reservation that was supposed be easy and seamless, ended up with several back and forth and up and down the stairs to facilitate. I think it should be an option to consider that since a drivers license is presented and on record during the reservation and same card payment, it would have been an easy fix of just modifying the reservation and not cancel and redo everything, which was very frustrating and cause too much hassle for the customer.
After trading out 3 other cars we finally got one without bald tires that felt like it was going to shake apart on the freeway, one that didnt look like someone got sick in the passengers seat and one that the gas door actually opened on. Shame on you Avis! Your quality control is severely lacking and you prey upon your customers like vultures. Never again Avis! You wasted a whole morning of MY vacation with your lack of detail and attention to your vehicles. To add insult to injury, your employees have the bedside manner to the likes of a mule. Cant believe the last car actually held up for the remainder of the week! Shameful Avis. Just shameful.
Cars are never matienced. When I pulled off in the car I advised staff that matience was required qnd they stated it was fine vehicle needed an oil change.I got a flat tire and received no help! My 100% disabled veteran husband had to get on his back and change the tire himself due to avis calling back 2 hours later stating they could not find noone to help us. The tires were bad and wires were hanging out! Horrible customer service from Raul at the counter was rude and zero help
Further updating my review. After reviewing my credit card statement, I was actually charged $420 instead of the $410 Avis printed in the final receipt. This is insane. I cannot trust Avis anymore.--Absolutely atrocious pricing. I was quoted an estimate of $225 for my rental, but after I returned the car I was charged $410 and none of the staff were able to provide a good explanation for this. Ill be staying away from Avis from now on due to these surprise charges and I would recommend you do the same.
I will never rent from them again! I had an SUV for 1 night, and I had my dog in it since I was putting him on a flight, my family and I were moving. When I dropped off the car, the employee said that the car was good, and he even signed off of it saying it was dropped off and was fine. 2 weeks after dropping it off, 2 WEEKS, I got a $450 charge to my card. I called them to find out what was wrong. They told me it was excessive dog hair. They sent me pictures, and there were only a few pieces. They also told me they do not clean every car after its been rented. EVEN DURING COVID!!!! This is a for sure way to spread covid. Why would I ever want to use a rental car that has not been cleaned?!?! I felt scammed. I talked to customer service, he was EXTREMELY rude, and he even said that they do not clean all of the cars everytime they are used. Absolutely disgusting. Never going back to Avis.
My name is oren shoshancharge of 99$ for 50 minutes delayrservation number 06431926IL4Voucher No 238583avis charge me for $ 99 already deducted from my account. it is an order of a car we took in Las Vegas mgm hote and returned to San Diego airport . Avis location in San Diego is outside the airport. Which made me look for the location and make me delay the return of the vehicle by 50 minutes.I talked to the clerk about it she transferred me to the manager who promised me to charge only 30$ (not to my satisfition), but it did not happenI want to point out that two weeks earlier 08/02/2021 Reservation No. 06238138IL4I took a car in Myrtle Beach avis airport I waited 4 hours in line to get the car ,and received no compensation other than an apology. (i complained about it separately).if it happened to you (avis) it can be happen to your costumerI ask you to return the amount to my account and not leave me with a bad feeling about everything that happened
Hi AllHas this happened to you?I rented a car in November from Avis for a 4 day rental in San Diego California. Everything was great and the customer service at the office in San Diego was awesome. I received a letter in the mail At the beginning of January stating they will charge me an extra $450 for additional cleaning of the car due to sand in the car. I was shocked I never went to the beach and the only dirt in the car would have been normal wear of a car after 4 days of driving. I believe this is Avis way of making more money to make of the difference of the lack of rentals due to the pandemic. I am so upset that a company takes advantage of people. $450 is a lot of money to add to my credit card with out just cause or proof of spoilage in the car. Renters please let me
Hands down the worst rental experience. They charged me a $250 deposit that was not mentioned when I made the reservation on my estimate or anywhere. They have signs everywhere saying masks are required. I wore mine (properly) after 6 hours of travel. The “trainee” agent had his on his chin. He did not have it covering his mouth or his nose. Follow you own rules!!! And the icing on this craptastic rental experience… the service light came on 15 minutes in to my drive so I have to deal with that today. I will never rent from Avis again.

2022-05-01Wow! What a mess. We rented a car from Avis Car Rental. There were long wait times for literally everything. There were no good directions of where to go. There were multiple rental car companies in the same place and it wasn’t clear who worked for who. At the picked there wasn’t even a line, just a mass of people you had to push through to get attention.

2022-07-22I was given a car with blown out speakers, which should have been checked. Staff was helpful and got me a replacement. Stereo was great but car had clearly been in an accident, with the driver side front bumper popping out at highway speeds and very poor quality brakes. That second car should never have been in service. Literally, the worse car Ive ever rented in 18 years. Im very disappointed.

2022-04-29Very bad experience…We rented a car in advance , followed all the procedures, even called their customer service for additionalInfo and to make sure everything was set and ready but once we got to the Avis location on San Diego Airport, they told us there were no cars available, and that we had to pay extra fees … also that we had to wait until they could find a car …. Even though we made our reservation in advance. What’s the point of going thru all of their procedures ? (because wasting time is exactly what you want to avoid ),and once you get to the place , they try to make you pay extra fees out of nowhere because they don’t have cars … who’s fault is that?! It’s definitely not the customer’s…Very disappointing experience .Awful unfriendly staff .Do yourself a huge favor and book with literally any of the other rental agencies here. There are so many better options!!!!

She found a car for me quickly and at a great price. Quick and smooth process and was out the door in no time. Car was great and return process was also quick and smooth. 2022-07-02Service was amazing! Happy employees. Specifically Angel at the front counter who was so kind and professional at the same time. I needed the car for a family member who passed and he was so genuinely compassionate and professional that gave me comfort from a car rental agency. Because of him I will be a Avis customer the rest of my life. I have always been a Hertz fan but Avis showed me something better.

2022-08-15We HAD to come write a review after our experience here. Raquel was phenomenal, really an angel! We had just went through a terrible experience at Fox Rent a Car… manager mimicking us and being disrespectful. So, we canceled our reservation in the middle of the night and went looking for a car to rent. I wandered into Avis absolutely exhausted and overwhelmed, Raquel made everything so easy. Her positivity and genuine kindness turned our whole night around. She listened to what we needed, helped us in every way she could and had us in and out with a smile on our faces in less then 20 mins! When management came over to say hello to us, they even gave us a free upgrade. We ended up paying $400 less for a much better vehicle compared to what Fox was trying to swindle us into. The car was amazing and so clean. We are very thankful to this establishment for showing us there’s still people out to do good in the world and customer service is not dead!

2022-07-06I work for a company and we have to rent from Avis. The car are always dirty and not well kept no matter the city we get the car in and the reward program sucks. This trip, my check engine light came on and the car had to be switched out. I got off work at 7am after working 12 hours. Called Avis and was told to go to the Avis that was ten minutes away to change out the car. The place opened at 9am. So I stay up and I go and they don’t have any cars because they are sold out. The agent I spoke with could have checked and avoided all this. I was then told to call road side assistance which took about a hour to get all figured out and settled. I was told the car would take 4-6 hours to get to me at 1030am. The car didn’t get to me until after 9pm which resulted in me being 3-4 hours late for work.We never had this problem with National when we rented from and got nicer cars because their reward program was better and we rented so frequently. We have recommended switching back to National because this is an on going issue.

2022-07-26We had family come into town and forgot that is was Comic-con weekend. Our agent greeted us with a smile and went to work finding us the perfect car. He applied our triple A discount and got everything all set up in almost not time at all. His demeanor was pleasant, positive and friendly. That made this an awesome experience. We need more people who truly enjoy what they do. He was an excellent example....

2022-05-09Very helpful staff. The young lady that assisted me with my rental was very friendly knowledgeable and patient. She took her time to Search for a vehicle to my liking. I’m sorry I forgot her name but I will definitely find out. She’s an amazing asset to the Avis company. I will be sure to tell all of my coworkers ad well ad my company on the great customer service I experienced.

2022-06-14I originally booked a car with Thrifty, but they werent very accommodating so I gave Avis a try. The lady behind the counter was so helpful and nice, even though I was a walk-in and didnt book online beforehand. She was able to get me a car fast and the whole process was quick, simple and uncomplicated (as it should be). Thank you Avis! I will book my next car rentals with you in the future.
