Number 1...the vehicle was not clean...I have pictures if you would like to see them. Number 2, I was told that I could not extent the turn in time although the check out time was 2 hours after the initial pick up time, as I had to wait in a long line for over half an hour and then be told that I could not put the deposit on one card and the rental amount on another. I was not informed of this when I rented the vehicle. I then has to call my credit card company and figure out how I could finalize this transaction. Then your people made me wait in line again. and then tried to skip me in the line...all of this took almost 2 hours I also asked if I could then extend the rental to two days....I was told the additional day would be 238.00 not the 75.00 that I had just paid. Your people at the front desk were rude and condescending to me. I was not in any way rude, or misbehaved in anyway when dealing with your staff. I would pay twice the amount not to go through that again. Also, I had to go all the way to San Jose airport because you couldnt accommodate my rental request in Santa Cruz. The vehicle itself was a great ride! I do thank you for that!!
Do not book a car from here they will rip you off.Horrible experience here. On top of having to wait in line for an hour, being given a car that wasnt there, having to wait in another line for 30 minutes to get a new car.Budget increased our charge for them not having the car they gave us. Then put an additional 250 charge on our account. After we returned the car, we got charged another 250 and were given a bill that was $70 over the price given on our initial receipt. We were not late returning the car nor did it have any damage. And have had 568 charged to our account. In addition we paid for the car in advance for $68 and that fee was subtracted from a 140 charge we were given up on pickup of the car.
Horrible Emergency Roadside assistance. (most times est.) Called ERA 9/2 9:30am re flat tire. car in safe place. Beg help from others to get to grandson wedding event. Not with car.20 m hold, then told had to be with car. Return hotel 3:30 p.m., call, 30 min hold, said someone would be out soon, text when coming (< 30 min) 5:00 pm no text, no update, no help, call, on hold. Get text while on hold at 5:23 w/ ETA 5 min.(hung up hold), help on the way (a lie). Enough to get to wedding rehearse, groom dinner. NOTNO SHOW, NO UPDATE, NO REPAIR.I missed rehearse/dinner waiting, expecting. After several calls, Budget REFUSED to send replacement car.10:00 PM 2nd (different contractor) text with eta 15 min, assured he was on the way.Arrived at 10:15 PM, all he did was take donut spare from trunk and replace the flat. Not a full size tire, not a different car. Now stuck with car with donut.Saturday AM. Called ERA, 35 min hold, said i had to call local customer service, called that, 45 min hold, said i had to call ERA, RUNAROUND and extensive hold times... both refused to bring replacement to me. Had to drive ON DONUT to where I got car (San Jose Airport) to replace car.Airport: Asked for cust serve mgr, 30 min. Andrew He provided replacement car, but...LATE, MIGHT MISS WEDDING.He offered be $150 reduction on rental fee (about 35% of total 7 day bill). Not satisfactory to me. Said he would assist me in getting FULL refund. Hand wrote NO CHARGE per Andrew OK SJC Avis/Budget on new rental agreement and would contact me when he had update on that. NO UPDATE YET 9/15Replacement car: went to leave lot (ramp) exit person wrong car. Go back and talk to manager again, another 30 min wait. He did something on computer and accompanied me to exit. Same thing, again they said wrong car, but manager was able to fix.Just barely got to wedding on time.CC charged for full amount, no call from Andrew (mgr) No compensation for 36 hours without car, and all my troubles and time. EXPECT FULL REFUND!
Waited over an hour in line with only one person at counter. When finally able to check in, the customer service rep behind the counter said “I’ll have to see if we have a car.” I had reserved and paid for the rental weeks ahead of time. Will try my very best no to use budget/Avis ever again.
Arrived at the line at the counter at 10:10AM. Didn’t drive away until 12:35PM. The service here took longer than my flight to San Jose. Absolutely terrible experience from start to finish. Our rental’s tires leaked air throughout the four days we had the car, but we didn’t want to waste even more time dealing with customer service. The car also had tons of exterior damage. The other rental lines went significantly faster than this one, so pick another company if you can.
I reserved and paid for my rental online. Upon landing in San Jose, I had to wait for an hour to go through the line to get my vehicle. When I returned the vehicle, I put the receipt in my pocket and headed to security. Once I was checked in, I looked at my receipt and saw a $93 fuel charge for 12 gallons of gasoline. I had filled the vehicle up 4 miles from the airport less than 20 minutes before returning. Thank goodness I had my time stamped and dated receipts. The charge was taken off after calling customer service, but I wonder if others get charged for gas when the gauge reads full at return.
Budget says it all. Low service is what you get when on a budget. Little customer service at checkout, couldn’t get a live rep when I had issues w rental, then no one was there during turn in. Inside was okay cleanliness, but the back window was dirty on the inside. Could tell they had issues w the rear tire in the past as the valve cap was missing & spare looked recently used & hastily replaced.
Organizationally a disaster and pre-booking a vehicle means nothing because they still figure out which car theyre going to give you when you show up.In my case, the vehicle apparently didnt exist after 1 hour of them looking for it and I then had to suggest to give me a different vehicle that physically existed at that location. That vehicle did do the job and I enjoyed driving it but it did have a faint smoke smell that came out in the CA heat.In conclusion: the people are nice and try to be helpful but operationally a disaster; your car is by no means waiting for you; plan for a lot more time to pick up this car, check the vehicle before taking off in it (take pics of odometer, any lights on, check condition, report smells, etc.)
Awful experience getting the car. Waited in line for over an hour (the flight to San Jose was only 50 minutes!). Gentleman at the counter was overworked - never got a break and he had to deal with cranky customers who were frustrated with the wait time. This is about Budget not ensuring that both their employees and customers are taken care of. I really hope the gentleman that was working on Wednesday night, June 22 finds a better job with a company that respects and appreciates how hard he works.
Currently been in line for 45 minutes. Still standing here, in fact. 2 people at the counter for a line 4 rows deep. One extra guy behind the counter doing nothing at all in spite of this situation. Everybody disgruntled after flying, some of us multiple flights back to back. We JUST want our cars. Worst experience trying to get my rental car at an airport ever.
When we arrived San Jose and transferred to the car rental center there were booths for both the budget and Avis. But no one there to provide direction. All of the budget workstations were blacked out nobody sitting there. There were eight people in line and things were moving very slowly. When we finally got checked in the provided a location and car type but the location did not exist and neither did the car. Another 30-45 minutes later we finally got into an upgraded vehicle. It took over an hour maybe closer to 2 hours to get checked in and get our car
The counter to pick up the car was so long and slow, especially given that I already had a reservation and gone through all the things I wanted and not have (like extra coverage, handled by my employer since it was a business trip on the reservation and my credit card). It does look like theres an app where I probably could have signed up for Budgets Fastbreak program instead of waiting but I didnt get any prompts to do so, most likely cause I went through my companys booking app. The drop off was quick and simple. The car was much nicer than I expected.Tldr: if you book ahead, look into Fastbreak.
Rented for the first time from Budget in San Jose. The rental counter was exceptionally slow. I understand that renting does take time but the computers made it very slow.We went to collect our car and had to wait for it to come up from cleaning. It was then dropped in front of us and the attendant just walked off. There was no vehicle inspection. I called him back and he did not want to engage and walked off again. When i left the parking lot I tried again to talk with the attendant about the co diction if the car before I left but he was not interested in talking to me either.I know hire cars can be a hit or miss and for me this was a BIG miss…$400 for below par service.
I had the worst experience renting with this company. First : I spent more than an hour at the counter. Then they gave me a car that it wasn’t the car that I reserved it was to small. I talked with some one and I waited for 30 minutes for another car but they never came. I talked again with the same lady and she gave now a big car but today when I returned the car they charged my credit car for a diferent amount . Definitely a really bad experience
I reserved a pick up truck that I needed for logistics for Monterey car week. They would not accept my corporate AMEX for payment because it only had the company name on it even though I had used weeks earlier for the reservation. I had to use my personal Visa card and then they told me that they did not have the truck; I waited in their lobby for 2 hours until they got one in. When I returned the truck that I had filled with fuel on airport property they charged me an additional $120 for fuel and when we showed proof of filling the truck and disputed the charge I was told they would waive it as a one time curtesy. Not a good experience I wont be renting with Budget again.
The reservation I made was for a Wednesday morning 930 am pick up.The car I reserved was a compact hybrid Prius or similar. I arrive and that car or something similar was not available. I arrived and they only had sports cars and mini vans. Once I informed the lady at the desk that I’d like her to check if there is anything else available, in all of a 5 minute phone call, they find a Prius. I get to the 4th floor and the Prius is pulled up to the space completely wet. I ask one of the attendants if they are going to dry it first and he says no it would dry when I drive it. On top of that there’s some kind of electric/indicator issue that showed something was in front of the left corner of the car, even though there wasn’t. The gentleman that tried to help me with the car insisted that was just showing the car doors weren’t closed all the way. He proceeded to go around and close all of the doors even though that’s not what the dash indicator showed the problem was.I go back down to the 1st floor to the desk and the guy repeats my issue to someone on the phone and they move me to a Lexus. The guy at the desk just says it so smug like I should be happy to get a fancier car. He even repeated that it’s a luxury car 2 times. No doubt the Lexus is a nice ride but I didn’t rent a car to be fancy or in luxury. I reserved a compact hybrid car Prius or similar because I knew I had to drive 2 hrs and didn’t want to pay high on gas. The Lexus takes premium gas and that was not a benefit to me.I use budget often when I rent cars and this was definitely the worst experience that I’ve had with them.
DO NOT RENT FROM BUDGET RENTAL CAR IN SAN JOSE AIRPORT! The staff are fantastic and friendly but their computer system is so archaic that wait is approximately an hour. We received a car that was visibly dirty and smelled of smoke and the gas tank was less than a 1/4 tank.
Very disappointed. Upon arrival to pick up the car the clerk attempted to upcharge me for various services which I declined and then double checked that all additional services were declined. I was then charged over $300 for a hold which ended up being some of the said services that I very specifically refused. Either there was a miscommunication due to a language barrier, or they tried to force these extra services on me maliciously. Read the fine print on your contract if you do use this company!!!
I went through Expedia and when I got there they did not have the type of car I needed. Only had a minivan. Where i went had limited parking and the minivan mads it almost impossible to park. Charged more for the insurance coverage they quoted on Expedia by 30 dollars. Reservations mean you should get what you asked for not whatever you want us to drive. Why take reservations if you are not going to honor them. Especially through a third party app.
I dont know why I have rented from them more than once! I always have some sort of issue. They rent out more cars than they are actually going to have in stock which causes you to have to stand in long lines for hours! The last time I had my elderly mother-in-law with me! Never again!
My wife gets off her plane last night at 11:30 PM with a reservation for a rental car and they tell her they dont have any cars available and shell have to Uber home. Not only did we prepay for the rental but now she also had to pay $130 for an uber all the way back to Monterey. Totally unsympathetic and unwilling to help. We will NEVER book with Budget or Avis again and recommend you do the same!
The car was troublesome. Ford echo sport 4x4 that was not very clean, i had to look on YouTube to find out how to open the back gate as no latches or buttons were visible anywhere. Windows were dirty and there was no windshield liquid to wash off the dirt which at night created glare. Car rattled endlessly
Not very satisfied with the fact that what I reserved online is not what was given as a rental. I reserved for a full size truck, but was given an suv. And keep in mind, your total at the end may be doubled by the time you return the car. Many fees are added at the end and I was not able to accomplish the reason I rented a truck for. Very unhappy customer.
They charged me for brining the car back less than full when i filled up right before the airport. Budget/Avis have done this to me multiple times recently and they wont print you a receipt right away for review they just say oh youll get it in your email. And then when I get it I have a $50 charge for fuel that I shouldnt have. Meaning I have to call support and wait an hour just to dispute and then have support question whether im telling the truth when theyre the ones despicably and intentionally overcharging people...
They made a mistake, fixed it quick, so took care of the issue, and no problem for me, and also gave me an upgrade for my troubles. I was on my first trip with my daughter, and already worried something would go wrong, but it didn’t, and I really appreciate that! I will definitely be using budget again.
The SFO budget employees appeared enthusiastic to do well to help, they seemed to show interest in our satisfaction- not simply “putting in the time”. However, we requested hand controls, and were sent on a telephone “run around”; no one seemed to be qualified to fulfill the hand controls request. -BTW, an “upgrade” to a Toyota Four Runner, does not adequately substitute for hand controls.
How can a top brand rental car company rent a car that has no capability nor no space to place luggage and cover it. If you do not want your belongings stolen make sure they are covered and out of sight. The Solo has no way to do this. And I was I renting in a large city but theft happens everywhere. Please do not even offer an automobile without the capability to hide your clients luggage.
Car pick up at the counter was absurd. The agent was very rude and he kept making requests just to upset us. First, he asked for an address in un US even if I was on vacation (never happened before), then one of my credit cards was not ok for him since it was written Credit/debit on it. Its a credit but you can use it as a debit as well in a national circuit in Italy. Its a normal credit card! I rented with budget with the same card 2 times the week before and never had troubles. Had to use my Amex card. He was just rude and unpolite all the time.
The only problem was the amount of gas in the car at time of pickup. It was at least 3-4 gallons short of a full tank. Unfortunately, I didnt notice this until I got on the road. This is a rather big deal in California with gas prices just shy of $6.00 a gallon. Make sure you check the fuel gage before you leave the lot.
As a Fastbreak customer, the experience is generally awesome. Ive been using Budget for years now since its a great value for me since I dont like paying a premium for a rental. Budget is my go-to place, and they make is so that I dont ever think about rental car problems.
I was supposed to get a Toyota Camry or similar car based on my reservation, however the initial car that was available was a Hyudai SUV that I did not want. When I spoke to the agent at the customer service counter, she was extremely helpful in arranging a Honda Accord as a replacement vehicle that was being serviced (washed and inspected). We had a brief wait and voila our car was delivered and off we went. The customer service person helped us out even though she was ready to punch out for the day...Thanksgiving Day no less. We were extremely pleased with her assistance.
Quoted $396 when reserving on Expedia and my final charge was $538. We returned the car 1 hour after the scheduled return time but with all the flight delays related to weather/COVID/labor issues, etc. our flight was pushed back and we chose to spend the extra time with family rather than hanging out at the airport for an extra hour. A little grace from Budget would have been appreciated. Beyond that, the extra hour should have meant an extra $52 (plus tax) charge beyond the $396 Expedia quote so Im not sure how we ended up paying $142 more than quoted. Bottom line, nothing about this experience would lead me to recommend Budget. Will look elsewhere for my next rental.
We arrived at the airport terminal and went to get our car. The counter had closed well before the posted closing time. We were redirected to an alternate floor in the garage where the signage was very misleading and the line was long. Only one person was working and people were waiting confused about where they were supposed to be. We rented our car finally after nearly an hour. The next day my back contacted me to say there was a suspicious charge on my card. It was Budget, they held a charge on my card over 3x the amount I booked the car for! When I returned the car, I tried to explain to the agent and she was very short with me, cut me off and wouldnt let me explain. She said it was because I picked up the car late!! You were CLOSED!! So when finally got a chance to explain, I got my bill adjusted. I stayed to examine the new receipt. She was rushing me away and I told her I would stay and check it in case I had questions. She then took back my receipt, TORE IT UP, then issued me another one with a higher price on it. What?!?I give up.
I have rented budget car several times from this same location and I was never charged for adding an additional driver. But for my last rental they added a $13/day charge without even informing me. Even after disputing the charges they told me its a valid charge but had no reason how it is a valid one. Please use their service only if you have no other car rentals available.
When we arrived, they did not have the vehicle we had initially planned to drive. They quickly found us another one that was more expensive, but did not charge us the difference. The whole process went very quickly and smoothly. After a long day of travel it was very much appreciated to get out of there and start our wedding/honeymoon trip!
My travel started on April 1st. I picked up the car and had to wait almost 45 minutes to get the car since there was only one employee working. My 1st destination was only an hour away. After heading on the freeway the tire symbol came on. Later on I called Budget itself and I was told if I took it to a tire company I would have to pay OUT of pockets expenses if I needed tires. I paid the insurance in the rental. I was not happy that 1st I was given a car that had issues but I would have to pay for those issues did not sit well with me. I did not bring extra funds to pay for tires if needed. I had to actually bring the car back to the airport to get a trade. Luckily my first destination was not that far. I tried to get the person I spoke to over the phone to get me to a budget place closer to wear I was at but she kept telling me that nothing was coming up in their database. I was able to look on line and see a few places I could of taken it to but since she could not find it then I had to either take it to a tire place and see what was wrong with the tires or take it back to airport. Also the other personal told me that this was I was going to be the last driver in this vehicle anyway. Not really good customer service overall. I will not be choosing your company again
Budget at SJC is by far the worst car rental service in existence. Know that if you prepaid for your car and decide it didnt work for you, cancel before the pickup time. If lets say, you rent at 1 pm....then cancel at 1:01 pm they will take the entire sum you paid and tell you you get no money back for the cancellation. That is correct, cancel after your pickup time even by a minute they take everything. The second wierd thing about Budget is that you cannot return the car early for any reason and expect to get money back for unused days. The third thing, the airport location does NOT take debit cards. You can book your reservation online, use a debit card but at the airport they will ask you to use a CC for the deposit hold as they do not take anything else. None of these policies are cleanly stated when booking. When asking the agent behind the counter I was told Next time, read the fine print. So much for that worry free motto they have. From here on out I will not recommend budget to friends, family or businesses.
Quick, easy and with helpfull staff. You guys do it right. Vehicle was perfect. I accidentally reserved this car twice (dont ask me how). One quick phone call resolved my error and got my refund. I was also granted an extra hour at the end of the rental. Very helpful.
Short staffed, so be prepared to wait in a longer line than usual. At the time I went, both the Avis and Budget car rental lines were merged into one. Between the two car companies, only two employees handled a huge crowd of peoples rentals.Exceptional professionalism was demonstrated by the two staff by validating each customer, listening to what they had to say and humbly apologizing for their wait and the delay in service. The employees did their best to accommodate everyone and their needs. The car was excellent, brand new, thoroughly cleaned, and worked without any problems. Car check out was a breeze after checking in with the front desk employees with our reservation. Car return was easy and straight forward as well.
They were very nice and professional. They answered all my questions and explained everything to me. I was offered a upgrade and didnt even have to ask. When I received my vehicle it was nice and clean. The check in and drop off process was easy and didnt have to wait long. Overall I was very happy with my experience and would recommend San Jose Budget to anyone flying in to SJC. Very nice people to work with!
We rented this 15 seater Van for a week long rood trip. Van performed very well. While picking up the vehicle, the staff did not prepared it in time. We waited for almost 45 mins. After reaching our destination, Oil Change required warning started appearing. Tried reaching their customer support, but no one answered my. We reached home back safely. Over all the vehicle performed well. Poor staffing at the pickup station and poor customer service are key negative points.
Pray NOTHING happens to the car while you are renting. Bc of covid apparently you cant get ahold of anyone. I can’t submit a claim, nothing. I have to hope the car will keep running as is bc I have no choice. The claims department doesn’t answer their phones, the fax, or emails. All the emails and fax bounced back to me. I’ve NEVER seen so much complacency in my life. I want to just drop it off and hope I get a replacement car but I have a feeling I’ll be denied if they have nothing on file for the incident which I can’t report bc no one is working I guess. Stay away from this company it isn’t worth the stress.
Where is my receipt?... no phone numbers or customer service to answers questions or to deliver a receipt. Arrived at San Jose Airport 12:00 Noon on an emergency visit after reserving the day before...told only then that I needed a return ticket to rent a car. Since I hop on the next flight on a one way ticket, I had only the one-way ticket.Came back again at 11:00 PM that same night and told I did not need a return ticket...can you believe that no one even ask for one? the entire day not only was lost but the car reserved was not available and given a truck which I could barely drive out of the rental lot. To exchange for another vehicle. The only option was to return back to the airport...not a locale hub which this ruin the entire 2nd day in CA on an emergency trip. Due to renting from Budget, my mission, the emergency visit was shattered. HAD TO EXTEND the rental to attempt picking up the pieces. After all the frustration... A WEEK THEREAFTER, cannot reach anyone for a receipt of final charges. SMH
We paid for a standard SUV. What we received was a smaller Hyundai Santa Fe, which is considered a compact SUV. In addition, the entire SUV was covered in large dents! From the hood, to the roof, to the sides. It looked like someone had taken it to a driving range and pelted it with golf balls. I will not be renting from Budget again.
I reserved one of your vehicles for a long-term rental, but when I had to contact Budget to discuss rental it always required waiting to speak with four different people. Check in clerk at San Jose, CA airport did not understand long-term rentals and could not explain why I only got 30 day contracts. Paper work made it sound as if I had to return the car to San Jose every 30 days to renew.
Just returned this Toyota Fortuner that I rented for a month. Was a bit skeptical since a lot of companies charge mandatory insurance (which almost doubles the final rental cost) and if you refuse they would find a little scratch upon return and charge a fortune for it. Everything went well in my case. Its just kayak said the rental company is based in terminal but its not. You will need to take a short shuttle ride.
They had me leaving the lot in a totally scratched up vehicle and when I reached the gate and put the visor down, it fell in my lap. DAMN good thing I wasnt on the highway!! Two hours later they gave me another car...what a fiasco. They promised to adjust the invoice but reneged when I returned it stating I had to contact their support department. Then they tried to leave me at the return desk...when I refused to take my stuff out of the vehicle they drove me to the terminal.I didnt rent some Geo...$1800 for a Jeep Wrangler one expects the vehicle, and service, to be pristine.
I had a prepaid rental and returned the car early and cant get nay money back. I was offered a one day free rental but have to jump through hops to get it. I prepaid because I have done it with Budget many times and I am a valid customer but I will not be renting with Budget anymore.
The car rental wasnt ready when we got there it wasnt washed yet. But they were very quick. They were very kind and cordial. Very professional. The van itself was very clean everything worked the cruise control this glorious, air conditioning was perfect. Not one problem the gas gauge was completely accurate which I was very thankful for because I hit e and an area that I didnt know and was scared I would run out of gas but we were fine. The check engine light for the oil came on right away so I recommend them checking that on a more timely fashion. But I had no problems. Everything was great the drop-off of the vehicle was very smooth it was very easy no headaches at all
I did not appreciate being over charged by default and having to contest my bill in order to get a refund. When picking up this rental car I stated specifically that I would refill the gas prior to returning the vehicle. The gas tank was full when the car was returned, however, I asked for a printout of my bill and I was shocked to see I was charged for a full tank of gas. This is outrageous, and I intend to lodge a formal complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs.
Vehicle was not in the fast break slot for the second time so had to go all the way back downstairs and wait in line for 30 minutes. Guy at counter asks me if I checked upstairs as if I cant read the signs. Then he proceeds to call up and tell me its there. I advised him a third time that it was not so he called back up and the lady told him she was getting it ready as a swap out. Mind you I arrived 40 minutes after my designated pickup time. I go back upstairs and of course wait in line up there because its not in the fast break slot just like I told the guy downstairs. The lady upstairs said nothing, didnt ask for id or anything and just hands me paperwork with some scribble on the front so I had to ask her where the vehicle was. I go to the vehicle and review the paperwork which I never do but, since everything else was handled so poorly something told me to this time only to see a much higher price so I have to go get back in line. I tell her and of course she tells me Im wrong until I pull up the email with the price then I have to wait 20 minutes for her to correct the price which was still wrong. She just hands me the paperwork back. No apologies or anything. I will just go back to Alamo, avis or enterprise as they still maintain their basic customer service levels even during a pandemic where maintaining customers matters more than ever. Even if I have to pay more in the future at another company I gladly will just to know I’ll get good customer service.
BEWARE. Budget sent me out in a car with no spare tire. I had a flat, so with no spare, Budget sent out road side assistance.. About a week after the rental, Budget sends me a letter with an additional $220 charge for the road side assistance and tire repair...even though I purchased the optional Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) insurance to cover the car! Me and my family are stranded for hours waiting for the tow truck (Budget said I had to wait with the car until it was picked up) and then get this big bill for the trouble. Worst rental car experience I have ever had.
I reserved a SUV but Budget SJC do not have SUV available and ended up with a Toyota Camry. The Camry was not properly maintained, computer shuts down in the middle of the road. I had to pull over to restart the car to get all the sensors working again. The car door remote battery died right on the 2nd day of my rental. I had to manually opened door throughout my 3 weeks of rental.
Was an amazing experience. Would highly appreciate it if you keep the back seat bit more push back while in Jeep Wrangler there is no option to do by pulling the leaver like front seats. In Jeep, its like you need to unscrew the back seat and then have to adjust the push back and have to screw them back which is I guess not allowed for the customer to do in rental cars. Because the back seats were not pushed back in all entre journey of 21 days the passengers who seated in the back has to sit with the straight back which was very painful.
I could not get a confirmation from San Jose Airport Manager regarding my reservation after I left a detailed voicemail on his personal business line. We have rented at least 20 times from budget and spoke to the lady at the counter the morning of our rental and we were denied renting a deep because it was a luxury vehicle and we had no credit card. We have never been denied renting any car including a convertible Mustang without a credit card. We actually rented two cars from budget this week. The kid that we rented had 6 miles on it and we realized halfway through the rental that one of the headlights was out as well weve been driving with only one headlight at night. The two women that were working the counter on the morning of our pickup were quite rude which is disheartening.
We waited for about 35-40 min in line and the signage was confusing to find the Budget window. There was only 1 person helping all Budget customers. Some crumbs in cup holder of the car. The hinges on the front passenger door made a crunching noise. It sounded like it was going to break off. We told the attendant at the exit gate, but he insisted it was fine and if we wanted to wait again in line we could maybe get another vehicle. At that point we just wanted to be done and move on. I have a video saved of the door crunching/hinge issue.
Horrible experience! Stay away from Budget. I would have given zero stars if I could. We rented an SUV from Budget a couple of weeks ago. I returned the SUV with a full tank of gas. Because of COVID, there was only one person there in the office for multiple car rental companies when I returned the SUV. I asked if I needed to wait and make sure everything was okay, and was told to just leave the keys in the SUV. Today my partner noticed that she was charged $190 for gas! When she called to speak to a representative, the lady told her it was because the gas tank came in empty. When she told her that is not true, and that I had filled it up all the way, she said that I needed to fill up the SUV right next to the airport. The gas station I filled up at was 5 miles away from the airport, but the tank was still on Full when I returned it. Regardless, even if the tank was not completely full, it does not warrant a charge of $190. Needless to say, we will NEVER be using Budget again. Do not waste your time with these criminals, and if you do, make sure to take pictures of everything!
Took over an hour and a half to pick up the car, almost had to abandon my pre-paid rental and take a taxi to my meeting. The line was not extremely long but for a while it was taking upwards of 20 minutes per customer in line. There was almost no communication from the staff about what was going on. Many people behind me and some in front of me did end up abandoning the line. At one point someone who had made it through the line returned from the car area saying there were no cars, but this turned out to be false (there was no communication in the car area either). All the other rental companies had almost no line, not sure if Budget over-booked or what.
It could have just been the San Jose airport but the setup is a complete joke. The main lobby has a sign that says budget 4th floor cool get in the elevator and it shows budget 5th floor. Stop at 4th its avis and the line is massive with two people working. The line was had 18 total people waiting. i stroll up to the 5th floor and the Budget box is shut down. Back down to 4th. The line is now 20+ people. Signage is a disaster several people are asking them exactly what i was asking. OK cool wait in line for 30 min. got the paperwork and go stand and wait for the car. 30 more min goes by and i go ask whats going on she replys give it a min or two. 20 more min goes by and i finally get a car. So in total i was standing there over an hour. It made me late for my appointments. I thought i would give you guys a shot since i rent a car weekly if not several times a week. I travel for a living all over and this is by far the worst experience i have had. The car was not clean they still had stuff in it from the previous renter. in all i was not satisfied in the slightest and i think your management really needs to get a handle on whats going on in your locations. If you would like to know more please feel free to reach out. I have actually made notes in our company travel plans that budget needs to be at the bottom of the list. Thanks
Mostly was great. But when returning the car, there was just one poor fellow at the desk, a very long line and a customer at the front of the long line with a complex problem. Signage was not clear if I had to wait in line or of I could just leave. Need to manage staffing better and clarify if one can just leave the car without checking in with the desk.
The car I rented was perfect but when I return the car is where the problem happened. First there was nobody to check the car in. Everybody didnt know where to go. So we had to wait in a very long line with folks renting and returning it was very painful. Returning a car should not take over an hour to do. This was at the San Jose Airport. Please change process for Returning cars.
Although I was given a 7 passenger SUV, instead of what I reserved for, a mini van, the service was great. My son dropped his video camera and was left inside the rental, but was informed of it and I was able to retrieve my lost item. It feels good to know that during this times, people still look out for their customers beyond their duties. Thank you budget rental, sjc airport crew!
I picked up my rental at 6:30, there was nobody at the desk. There was 5 people in line waiting and no one at the desk. Someone that does not even work for your company, let us know to go downstairs. That cash show was rude And told me that the person that was supposed to be upstairs was actually with her having a conversation. I then was told That the truck was full and when I got to it it was dirty, and the tank was at half a tank not a fool I did not get to pick up my truck till 7:30 and I was supposed to get at 6:30 The truck was also durty filthy
The person who checked in the cars is dishonest. He told me to leave the car in and he would check it in and then I got a e-receipt that had a fuel charge for 2 gallons of fuel for the ridiculous charge of 9.99 a gallon. The problem is that I fueled up at a gas station less than 2 miles away from the airport and made sure to top it off as much as possible. Its literally impossible that a vehicle with a fuel economy of 22-30 MPG burned 2.1 gallons in 2 miles. I am suspicious that this is a common practice as most people would not notice an extra $20 on their bill, so its an easy way for a branch to boost sales. I called customer support and after putting me on hold, they came back and said that they could see that I was given the car with 7/8 of a tank and brought it back with 7/8 of a tank (still not accurate as it was nearly 8.8 full), so they reversed the charge. How could they see that in the system from a call center if the person who checked in the car said something different? Very shady!
If you are going to be an hour late you will be charged for another day so keep the car another night. We were snowed in in Tahoe and really frustrated getting home, cleaning and unloading the car and rushing to drop off the car only to get charged for another day. I have never been late so the last I remember was a fee for being an hour late but I guess that is a thing of the past. I should have called once I knew Id be late and that would have been less stressful for me. Buyer beware.
My mother lives 150 miles away and paid for rental with her credit card. When my brother and i got to the airport, they would not release the vehicle because neither of us have a credit car. We had to call our 73 yo grandfather to come back to the airport to use his credit card...then the 4th person involved decided that we did not need his credit card...used my Debit Card. No one knew what was going on...there was no manager available to get this resolved...took way too long with a sizeable line of other Budget customers waiting. Totally screwed up system!!!
Car was over 30 minutes late after scheduled pick up time, and when it was pulled up to the area I was told to wait in, no one notified me of its arrival. After getting in, the car had not been thoroughly cleaned and was still visibly dirty. At dropoff, there was no visible signage that it was a touchless drop-off, and no staff were in the area to assist with questions.
Excellent customer service from the upstairs level booth when I picked up car, from the female attendant at Avis counter. She went out of her way to give me quick service & I even got an upgrade to my fave lux car! I also received excellent customer service upon return from male attendant at the Avis booth checkin. He went extra mile also helping me to update my profile with my fast break. I regret I didn’t write their names down. I would appreciate if they get recognized since it should show their log in when they checked me out and checked me back in. Love Budget/Avis. Thank you for always taking great care of me.
Horrible and very disappointing experience!!!I would never recommend any friends renting with budget. First when I went to pick up the car I found I was given the wrong rental agreement which has the other customer’s name, driver lic number and payment info. Second, when I returned the car, the guy said the system was down so they couldn’t get my a receipt for the return. Then I was charged for $207 for fuel saying I returned the car with empty gas. And it’s impossible to get to customer service and look for help. The only thing they would say is to ask me to provide document and send to an email address which takes them more then a week to get back and asking for more documents. I have to get help from my credit card bank and dispute the charge. Overall, dealing with the company was an exhausting and disappointing experience, I would never use them again.
I rented a Pathfinder for the weekend, my first impression is the employer just finished washed the vehicle and it still so wet when they hand the vehicle to me, the inside of the vehicle is so dirty that I have to drive it back home and clean it myself, I told the employer at Budget but he said it ok, we just clean it, I was in a hurry so I have to leave. During the drive, I noticed that the car keep on drifting to the right because of the alignment went bad and the company did not care to maintained the vehicle. I will most likely not recommended renting cars from this company to my friends and my co-workers.
The car that I rented was not cleaned Prior to renting! Probably because they are understaffed due to covid. I use to work at avis Budget Group and know this is not how they Normally do things So I will give them a break on that. Im sure once this pandemic is over they will get right back to the way they were. Also the Rental agent Could be more friendly. Besides that everything went fine. pick up and drop off. The girl at the return was super friendly great customer service ambassador I wish I would of got her name so I could give her the props she deserves.
Great customer service at check in and check out although the person at the exit in San Jose was not friendly, she rushed us out. It was busy at the time we exited so it could have been the reason however, the Budget people were wonderful. It was busy at check in but the sweet lady greeted with a smile and was very helpful. When we left this morning at 4:00am and dropped the car off, the lady that checked us out was extremely friendly. Budget is my go to from now on because of the helpful staff.
The customer service was non existent from when we arrived in San Jose to when we brought the car back. Our flight arrives early and when we tried to pick up our car we were rudely told they had no cars available except an upgrade SUV for $40 more a day. We asked for a comparable car to what we reserved, mid size, he said again because we were early, less than 1 hour, they did not have any cars. After we asked a lot more questions they finally and miraculously found a small SUV but it would be $10 more per day. We were tired and gave into the shakedown and took it. We brought the car back 25 hours earlier than scheduled and were told that we would still be charged for the day we did not use. Again robbery!! We spoke to the counter person and she said that was the price and could not help. So I will follow up with their corporate office. The name BUDGET is appropriate as they budget on customer service at least at the San Jose airport as that is our only experience with Budget rental car. And it will be our last.
All we requested was a mid-sized car. Upon arrival, even though we were early, were told there was nothing left but a truck or we had to upgrade for $10 additional a day, and our basic insurance went up to $35/day. We ended up trying to be charged nearly 3 TIMES what we had made a reservation for and it took hours of phone calls, messages never returned, and a lot of heartache while on vacation that was totally uncalled for. Then at the end charged the balance on the wrong credit card. This will be the last time we ever use Budget.
Had a great experience renting my car at the San Jose Airport. Very easy. Was pleasantly surprised with the car I got, I had an upgrade coupon, she offered me an SUV but I needed something with better gas mileage as I had several hours to drive. She gave me a Nissan 370Z very nice, quick and oh so comfortable. First sports car I have ever gotten at a rental company. Very pleased. Easy to pick up and drop off.Very nice people
The front counter person was so nice. I also really appreciated the person that gave me the car. He was also the one there when I dropped it off. I sadly didnt get both of there names but Im sure they are always there. Thank them for delivering great, friendly service.
Ease of rental, quick, friendly, price, and great customer service. The car was exactly what I wanted. Although the keyless key kept warning me the battery was low I was afraid to be left out of my car. Ensure keys are fully charged or advise customers on what to do in such event. Otherwise, great experience, Great price, great car! Will use Budget again. Thank you
If my opinion matters, I need to talk to someone who cares. Ive attempted several ways to have a conversation with Budget about my rental situation but dismissed including hanging up the phone on me. We experienced a blown turbo with our rental and Budget rather ambivalent about our situation.
I arrived on time for my rental and still had to wait for my car, which I was then already paying for that time and did not have the rental. When the car arrived, it was still dripping wet and there were no paper towels available for us to use even to wipe off the side mirrors so we can see. The technician dropping off the vehicle did not acknowledge us at all. I was charged an exorbitant amount since they said the gas was not topped off (2 mi) and I was within the return time period, the technician took their time checking me in. All in all and additional $100 for 2 mi and 2min late. Never again with Budget. I will always go with Costco from now on.
Not the the vehicle we wanted. Vehicle was dirty inside (your COVID cleaning statement is clearly a lie) and had garbage in the back seat. Vehicle was damaged. Budget claims I damaged the vehicle when I got a receipt at the exit saying it was already damaged. Horrible customer service in attempting to address this situation.Update: A month after getting them to admit I was not at fault I got a letter from their collections agency demanding I pay for the damage. Now their customer service says there is nothing I can do, I have to fight it out with the collections people who are not interested in anything but the money. Horrible++ customer service, nothing but slow replies and broken promises.
We stood in line for two and half hours on Dec 26, 2019 at the San Jose Airport - Budget rental center. It took another 30 minutes to get the car in the parking lot. Very bad service and coordination. How could we recommend Budget to anyone? I called the national rental number to see if I can cancel the reservation without paying the penalty. They said no. At least you could have allowed that since the lines were too long.
Dont use Budget. I booked thru American Airlines site for 1 week car rental for $157.50. Got to the airport and agent would not release the car to me unless I added insurance. I had to get going, so went ahead and signed...thinking Id go online and straighten it out. Next day, rather than pay their much higher price, I took the car back. It was much less than 24 hours later. I filled the tank until it would take no more, but when I checked the car in, they charged me to fill the tank -- even though I showed them the gas station receipt. They said they went by their computer reading and had no choice. I was charged $108.54 for fees and taxes. I ended up paying $335.79 for less than 24 hours rental! Unbelievable ripoff! All the way I was met with ridged, disinterested personnel. Go to Fox rental next to Budget for a much better deal and far more pleasant personnel.
Although the reservation was made in advance, the experience at the check out counter was slow and painful. There was an extra step of having to match a credit card number that made the reservation. This was a business trip, and having to try and find the corporate credit card number was a waste of time. Also, in order to process my personal credit card, the machine could not read a standard credit card with a chip. Instead, I had to use a secondary card for the antiquated slide technology.
I had signed up for the Fastbreak, knowing that we were flying in at night, and had a 2 hour car ride to our hotel. When we arrived at the airport in San Jose, we discovered that there was one person handling 3 rental companies, including Budget. We had to go over all the same questions we had already answered and saved in our fastbreak account, and then head up to wait for almost an hour before our car was brought to us. The Fastbreak account did not help us at all. I could have saved myself a bunch of time by just not setting up that account, because it did nothing to help us. Also, the person who brought the car literally stopped it in front of us, and then left. No instructions on how things work. Since we had never driven a brand new ford escape, we had to figure it all out for ourselves, while driving. This did not feel safe at all. Its ridiculous that we had to go online and do a search to try and figure out a car that was just dropped off in front of us.
If I could leave 0 stars I would. They charged us $250 for “cleaning fee” which seems extremely excessive for a job of a vacuum. I called 3 times and they couldn’t do anything, I asked to speak for a manager/supervisor they said “i would receive a cal back” and they never called sent me an email disregarding me. Customer service reps are extremely rude. I will NEVER use budget again. Scumbags.
From the beginning of the rental to the end of the rental I was absolutely satisfied! The agent at the front desk was helpful, friendly, and quick. Then, to my surprise the car was already ready and I didn’t have to go to a second person when I got to the 5th floor, straight to the car and off I went. Return was so so smooth, dropped the car, inspected while gathering my belongings, and receipt given quickly! I frequent the San Jose airport often and will continue to use Budget!!
They stuck a junk fee on my bill. I am now trying to get it refunded. I will dispute it with my credit card if not refunded promptly. They charged me for fuel even though I filled the tank very near the airport. This is clearly a scam to charge people more, hoping they will not notice. I will be telling everyone I know about it, and that Budget is not to be trusted. I will also tell them to be wary of Avis, as they are the same company. Not likely I will rent from either again. I also used fastbreak and still had to go to the counter. Terrible service, and I got scammed too.
I rented long term from here and the second month there was some sort of problem. I made 5 phone calls to see what the problem was and nobody could help. 3 employees were completely rude. One said call some other time my computers are down. Another said if I didnt call back to fix a problem he couldnt fix that they would report the car stolen. Cheap rental, even cheaper customer service. The worst, second only to AT &T. I will be looking for another place to rent from today and returning this car asap. Beware. You get what you pay for.
It was a 2 hour wait to receive a car. I was given mixed directions - go find car, wait until it is brought to you. When I did get a car, 4 different maintenance lights came on within 15 m8of leaving the airport at 2:30pm. I called the road service and spoke to 10 different people. Every time I was put on hold a new person spoke to me and I had to begin again. A tow truck came to get the car and did not bring another car. I then had to call back, a lift was sent and I was taken to the airport to get another car at midnight!!!
Car was dirty, windshield had not been cleaned and windshield wipers were atrocious. Minimal charging ports and no nice phone connection just basic Bluetooth. Basically just seemed like the minimum needed to be what was paid for. Budget is an accurate term but that also means not likely to recommend to anyone else. Also our Nissan kept throwing out warnings about malfunctioning safety features which wasn’t really reassuring.
We booked Premium SUV a month ago(!), and we came there to pick it up, but Budget representative told us that they dont have Premium SUV cars at that time. I booked it from 12 p.m. and we came to the counter at 12:50 p.m., because the line was so long! We needed this car because we had a reservation on Tahoe for the whole family! We ended up renting a car from another company and paid extra money! Unbelievable!
I had a reservation to rent a car at the San Jose Airport and had to wait in line for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to get to the counter to fulfill my order. Granted it was Christmas Day the staff was all of two people. But there were 30 customers in line ahead when I walked up and there was no attempt made by the staff present to help or improve our situation. Two and a half hours! All Budget had to do was create a line for reservations and a line for walk-ups and my Holiday experience could have been improved. Instead my family and friends waited at the dinner table while myself and the other Budget customers all watched the staff go down to one person while the other went on break. I guess this was all to help us to consider the loyalty program so we could be Fast Tracked. Come on Budget!
We got a Toyota Sienna, believe it was 2020 model and only 15000 miles but the car was in really bad shape:1. Rear door had 2 big dents.2. Front bumper on the right side kept on popping out of the fender and damage badly in front on lower part of it.3. Interior trims had a lot of scratches all over the place and some pieces have broken.Other than that, the car was OK for the trip.
I feel that Budget gave me a good initial deal but when I extended my rental agreement by more than a day the daily cost was substantially higher. So, I will recommend Budget to family and friends, with a caveat: dont extend your rental agreement. In hindsight, I shouldve rented for the full week then return the car early. In my particular case, I would have saved money if I rented for the full week and returned the car early without a refund.
This company is a joke! Completely unprofessional and incompetent. I made a reservation for a sedan at 10 am so that I had enough time to get to work by 11 am. I arrived here at 9:40 am to pick up the vehicle. I waited in a long line only to be told that not only did they not have my vehicle that I had reserved, but that all they had for me was a huge 15 passenger van! I refused and so I was asked to wait for a vehicle that was just being returned and cleaned. As I was waiting, I spoke to another lady who was also waiting for her rental vehicle. She had arrived after me. We get to talking and realize that these people had promised us the same vehicle. THE SAME EXACT VEHICLE. The woman calling herself the manager running this circus named Shaman, came over to where we were standing and gave the vehicle to the woman who I was talking to. The one who came in after me. She tried refusing, stating that I had gotten there first. Shaman had the audacity to refuse her refusal, and insisted she take the car, and made me wait even longer! She then made me take a huge Ford truck which is a gas guzzler. Not the sedan I had reserved. Needless to say, I was 30 minutes late to work because of this ridiculousness. I wish I could give them ZERO stars but I have to select at least one due to Googles parameters. I am infuriated with this inept company and will never use Budget again!!
Worst car rental experience of my life! I will never use Budget or Avis again. Waited in line for over an hour then no cars were ready. Plus no one upstairs had any idea what was going on. There were over 20 people waiting and no one there to help us. The overall process was 2 hours to get a car.Highly suggest never renting at Budget at the SJC airport.
I had the worst experience. Going there during a crisis situation and I was taken advantage of and she must of added on every add on you can think of. I thought here I’m renting the car for a week for $110 added liability insurance it went up to $300. I called to make sure I wasn’t going to be penalized for returning the car early. I go to check out and I’m charged $511 and turned the car in 2 days early. How ever the calculations were made, I was completely ripped off. I called billing to see if they can help me. She got my contact info and email address incase we got disconnected. I speak to her calmly because I work in customer care, she hangs up. I did not get a call back. NEVER AGAIN!
A bit slow in their operation during pickup, but got the car and booking I had more or less in time. Would go again for the reasonable rates. Returning the car was a breeze as they have people on duty who guide you, just drop the keys and leave, after parking in the designated area. Got a pretty good deal for a one day rental
The car we rented almost made us crash and had to completely stop on the freeway going 65 while it wobbled uncontrollably going to the airport upon return. When we called Support To report the car we had the run around getting transferred to customer service to road side assistance then back to customer service saying they are closed. Advised the return person in hopes this car does not get circulated to be rented again and thankful that we didn’t have a major accident as we completely stopped in the middle of the freeway.
Waited 2+ hours with a reservation. Was told they had no cars and they had me sign a check in sheet where I was #1. Proceeded to wait and got back in line after I saw that they were passing out keys again. Then I was told that even though my account showed as a fastbreak member, their system hadn’t updated so I was SOL. Classy peopleUPDATE: I was never called and so I just cancelled my reservation and got one with Enterprise.
I dont usually bother with these reviews because i am short on time but I am taking a moment today to note that while i have a couple of minor issues with my rental, in the end, Budget promptly saw to correcting the problem, and in the end, that is what is to be applauded. You (Budget) can see from my correspondence what the issues were, so i will not go back through it here, but please know that I do appreciate Budgets handling the (probably inadvertent )overcharge issue promptly and correctly. Thank you.
I wanted to warn people to stay away from Budget Rental (Budget Rent-a-car before they rebranded). The counter staff working there informed me that she didn’t have the van I had put on hold, was rude, and called me a racist slur. She said the amount of money she’d make from my reservation wasn’t much and she didn’t need it. She refused to let me speak to a manager.Stay away! There are plenty of other rental companies at San Jose airport.
I was quoted a total of $244.68 including taxes and fees when I made the reservation. I told them we would pick up the car at 2:30 PM, and drop off at 4:30 PM. When we dropped off the car, the charge was $326.24. I was told this is because they now charged us for 4 days, instead of 3, as we dropped the car off at 4:47 PM. I do not appreciate Budget changing the amount charged after you have used their car; I will not make the mistake of using Budget again.
Well I was pleasantly surprised when we return the very nice car we had to the airport. The agent asked if I wanted a ride to the terminal in our rented vehicle so my 87 year old mother did not have to get out and get on a bus to terminal. I was so surprised with this wonderful service, I was speechless. Thank you Budget for making this last leg of our travel a bit more pleasant.
Horrible Experience at this location. I booked a Luxury car online a few months back. They did not have any Luxury cars at the time that i arrived so without offering a discounted price they gave me another car. Upon arrival I was 2 hours late to the airport. They charged me $100 for being 2 hours late on my return. (2 hours late charged me half the cost of the entire rental) After explaining my unsatisfaction with this rental experience nobody in the customer service department seemed to care. I have used budget so many times in the past and travel 2-3 times a month for work. I hope that the $100 is worth losing a lifetime worth of business budget. If you need a rental in San Jose go anywhere but here.
Not good quality in these times. One guy working by himself. I asked during him entering my info what type of cars he had available, he said they will see when hes done. He ended up just picking a car anyway and I had to use a public pen that has been sitting on the counter all day. Yuck. Ok no big deal. I got in the car that was clearly not cleaned and infested with ants. Yep. I have picture and video footage. So now Im in the back of the line again waiting to get car exchanged as advised because theres people waiting. I have time now to flick the ants off of me. Pew pew pew
Longest line I have ever seen at a rental place. Waited in line for over 45 minutes. Only two people working! Tried asking what was going on and got a very short and rude response. No apologies for the wait. They then asked a thousand questions about how many passengers and luggage we had. I asked why they need this information and she first said because you are renting our car and then went into explaining that they had an upgrade package she thought we would like. Not to mention we had already booked this car online. Just awful.
Workers were painfully slow, hadna bad attitude. I had to rent a different car and the lady there was trying to soak me in rates until I showed her price line. I needed an extension for an extra day at the end of my first rental and it went up 100%. I may not go budget again. And dont be in a hurry since the employees seem to be rejects from the DMV
I had booked for intermediate and prepaid. But instead got a pick up truck. Had to go to change my location to airport to get the car I wanted. But the contract was already opened by agent at original location. I should have picked it up at 8:30 am instead got it at 11 am. My plans got ruined because of this. Worst service during my first reservation at budget. Dont deserve even 1 star.
The wait in line was ridiculous to pick up the car. When I arrived there were 3 agents and 12-13 people ahead of me. Soon there were 8 people behind me and two agent left the one guy to handle everyone! I was in line for almost an hour - I was in SJ for a business meeting and ended up being beyond embarrassingly late. The one gentleman Left at the counter was very nice and did his best, but he couldn’t handle the number of people fast enough. Once I got my paperwork, I went up to the 6th floor and now there was no one there to help me get my car! The person on the booth said she couldn’t. Why?? The car was fine once I got it but the lack of staff and delay was very annoying.
No one at the front desk downstairs. No directions. Had to go up to somebody at Avis on the 4th floor to get help. Could not find my vehicle. Then finally found it but told me it need to be sanitized first. It has been 40 minutes and I am still waiting for it!I rent cars all the time from other companies.I will NEVER use Budget again!
Unreliable. Nearly ruined my brother’s wedding! We had reserved a van two weeks in advance to transport guests and decorations. When it came time to pick up the vehicle on the morning of the wedding, the sales assistant, Sherrie rudely informed me that all the full-size vans had been rented out already. She told me that my only two options were to rent a minivan, which wouldnt have fit everything I needed to transport, or to try coming back later that day, though she said there would be no guarantee that the reserved twelve-passenger full-size van would be available either. I was inconvenienced into driving to another rental company, and paying way more out of pocket ($467 for just two days) for last-minute rental with another company. Sherrie wasn’t apologetic and offered no compensation. With service like this, they won’t stay in business for long.
Great service when picking up our car from the individual staffing the front desk. He was very courteous and efficient. When dropping off the vehicle, the staff were quick to notice that we had left an item in the backseat of the car and raced to catch us before we went down the elevator and left it. Couldnt ask for a better service experience when renting a vehicle (especially when comparing it to sub-par service received elsewhere). My wife and I were also pleasantly surprised to receive a Ford Fusion Titanium edition in the current model year, with all the upgrades. It made our trip that much more enjoyable, and I will definitely use Budget for future rental needs at this location!
We reserved a car 4 months in advance. Specified wed pick up the car at 8am. We came in at 8h30am and they didnt have our car and wanted us to wait until someone returns the car. We were so mad they gave us a Van instead so we would not wait. Service wasnt good at pick up but great at returns at the airport.
Rented a small Hyundai Elantra. Everything was great. Sadly I was in a position to return it a day early but was told I cant get the extra days money back if I booked the reservation in advance. While disappointed, thats simply a policy matter and not really a service concern. Just a heads up if youre pre-paying, that it locks you in, even if you end up not using all the days you initially rented the car for. But it all went well. We drove about 400 miles in total, and never had an issue. Pick up and drop off were a breeze. Rented at the facility in the San Jose airport.
Bait and switch: I reserved a Standard 4 door car with trunk. When I arrived, I was given a choice between two gas guzzling SUVs. I declined stating that I had reserved a car with a trunk. The clerk said let me see what I can do. He assigned me a Dodge Charger. This is a noisy gas guzzler. I spent over $100 in gas in 5 days. The noise was incredibly unpleasant. Walking to the car, I passed at least a dozen conventional sedans with trunks, but was told that these were reserved for other customers. It is not clear why my reservation was not honored, since they clearly had the cars ready to go. I will never rent from them again, and will escalate through Costco travel, who made the reservation.
Planned a two week road & camping trip. Rented a SUV. They gave me one that needed an oil change. After talking to multiple people and various Budget centers, I received no help. I ended up having to pay out of pocket for an oil change.Even though I didnt understand why they gave me a vehicle that needed an oil change, the part that made me upset was the lack of customer service. I got transferred around over and over without any help whatsoever. Their sole solution was to take it to a near by Budget Rental center and swap it. Ok. But they told me it was up to me to call around at various centers to check on inventory. They either could not or would not check and or call for me. I wasted a day calling around before a guy told me their car fleet was wiped out. He told me to just take it to Firestone and get an oil change. Apparently they work with Firestone. Firestone was booked for two days, so I just ended up taking it another company that they dont work with so I had to pay out of pocket. After this experience, I wont use Budget again and I highly recommend using a better car rental company if youre doing a long distance trip.
This is the slowest, most poorly equipped rental car agency I have ever been to. I was the only person in line and still waited 8 minutes to be helped. Then their screen didnt work which they knew about, so when I told them why dont you put a post it on here to make sure that nobody tries to use this screen. They said, well sometimes it works. How does that help the customer? Where is the customer service? Theres five of their screams that they could have gone to rather than using one that may or may not work. Absolutely ridiculous. It took me over 20 minutes to get a car, and when I was up at the parking structure to pick it up, it wasnt even there. It took me 40 minutes to get a car when I was the first person in line. Absolutely ridiculous. Dont waste your time, go to someone else.
You guys are always the best you had the car waiting for me though it took a little while for us to discover it was in Avis parking lot bus parking lot and there it was nice and clean sorry I damaged the right rear quarter panel but anyway were covered by American Express insurance so happy though the car worked fine and you guys are great
I had terrible customer service on July 4th. The Fastbreak counter had the lights off with no one there. The wooden kiosk holding pre-printed reservations didnt have my reservation. I ended up waiting in their regular line for one hour to get my vehicle. While waiting, I called Budget. The person on the other end told me he didnt know what was going on and he couldnt help me. Im never renting from Budget again. A huge waste of time!
I was given a faulty car. The car check engine light came on and one wheel lost pressure. Also, the car did not have a full tank of gas, and the odometer in the car recorded 70 miles more than what the rental contract said. Clearly the car had been driven between for 70 miles before I got it. I had to waste half a day to exchange the car. Also at the counter, the agent tried to sell me $2 million insurance for the affordable price of only $50 a day or $700 for two weeks.
The lady said I didnt have a reservation in the system, so I showed her my confirmation email with res number. Then the car I booked wasnt available and had to pay extra $10/day for the next class up. Then she offered me insurance I had already purchased online with the reservation. After all that they only accept credit cards, no debit, unless you can prove a return flight and they put $200 hold on your account. Terrible policy, terrible customer service. Only saving grace is that the car was nice.
I was charged $7 for fuel even though i filled up at a gas station 5 miles from drop off. The attendant who checked in the car seemed to lack training. Another more experienced attendant fixed the issue.During checkout, in the evening on a day when most people are traveling before xmas, there was only one person behind the desk, with 6+ empty computers, and 20 people in line. Unnecessarily long wait until 2 others came out to help.
When i arrived in line, there were only 3 people infront of me. It took almost 45 mintues to finally be helped. then there were about 12 more people in line and just felt bad for them. The process was such a struggle. upon return of the car, no one was there to help or take mileage and keys from the car. i had to walk all the way to the front, only to be told to turn around, go back to the car, record the mileage, gas and leave the keys in the car. It was just such a long and drawn out process that almost cost me to miss my flight due to poor, unhelpful, minimal work staff
Exceptional rental experience: from the selection of vehicles while making my on-line reservation to the very competitive pricing in the Bay Area, to the very attentive agent Michael, the experience was stellar! Yes, the wait in the line was long and the vehicle type I reserved was unavailable, but the wait is to be expected in such a busy airport with the most competitive rental car pricing in the Bay Area during the Labor Day Weekend, and the customer service compensated for the wait! Kudos to Budget West Area for the best car rental I have experienced in a long time! Thank you!
Avoid this place at any cost! Way to many other options. I was told 20 dollars a day at the airport if I waive the insurance and use my own on my credit card .When I arrived they put the price up to 30 and wanted to charge $3000 deposit! Based on I didn’t want their insurance !They forced me to take their insurance to lower it to 1000 usd deposit which is insane .When I got upset about it the girl behind the counter told me to watch my attitude as it’s in her powers to rent me the car or not.Total thievesMy buddy used firefly , was cheaper and was charged a 300 dollar deposit.. avoid !!
Used many times, as a fastbreak member, the pickup and return is fast. But there is issues in there system if rent over a month. I booked online for over a month and paid the fee. When pickup, the return date was shorten to just one month. This caused a lot of inconvenience for me. And even they short the return date when pickup, no refund was received. By calling them, they said they can not see the original booking information anymore, though I still can see it from there website. So if you need a car over a month, I do not recommend Budget.
We picked up our car at the San Jose International Airport. The employees at Budget were very friendly, we received an upgrade to a Volvo 60 - it was a really nice vehicle with all the bells and whistles. Check in and check out were fast and efficient. Definitely will rent from Budget again! Plus, they were by far the best priced!
I Explained to the representative that i was a nurse helping out for the Covid crisis and I needed to turn my car in at another location, I asked as a courtesy to waive the fee but he told me that it was not possible, so i had to rent a second car. I will make sure that my fellow nurse are aware that Budget is not working with us in these times of hardship. Enterprise gave me no trouble and waived all of the fees for us.
Called customer service because plane diverted from SFO to SJ, they were helpful and changed reservation and said it would be $40 cheaper, but picking up my car it ended up costing double my reservation and the customer service representative noted it was just a reservation - I deal I got ripped off and was stuck in a situation without a way out like BART. I had very limited options but to pay twice the quote on my reservation to see my mom on her birthday, her husband after being hospitalize and my sister after successful heart surgery for Thanksgiving. I was only in town 2 night and didnt have spear time to debate what seemed like either misleading reservation quote or price gouging at the counter. The person at the counter did not seem to care I had a question about the price and really did not have an explanation for it
Wait time in SAN Jose was 2 hours with no assistance, grumpy staff and unhappy customers. Car was not what I ordered ( I know you can swap at will but we bought extra bags and really wanted a full size SUV not a pretend one. Sure the price was ok but so is everyone else’s and my time is money to me. Staff were disengaged and just not helping the line progress. Seriously, 26th of December and you have one staff working? Come on, all the other companies had no lines or fast moving ones. I work for a large company and will recommend avoiding Budget in SAN Jose when asked.
My car was not available the last two times I’ve used Budget this time the contract was available. The vehicle was not in the space I was told an employee drove it home. It was the only vehicle in that class. I ended up with a reliable vehicle however it was not what I expected as the customer.
When we arrived in San Jose, I went to the Fast Break Line and stood in line for quite some time and as a back up my husband stood in the reg. line. When there were 6 people ahead of me the lady at the Fastbreak line told us her boss had told her to close the FastBreak operation. When we finally got checked in below in the reg. line, the attendant asked me why I didnt use FastBreak, and I explained it had been closed with people still in line. He said, oh, I just saw the attendant, she is up there now she was taking her lunch break. When we exited to get our car the Fast Break office was still unattended. We do not understand if you book that many cars for a certain time, you did not have people available to get our cars. It was at least 2 hours, which caused us to be late for our event and no explanation at all, except my boss told me to close the line.
I booked a car with them, and told them upfront that I didnt need the insurance since I have my own. The lady then told me that this was part of the package, and it couldnt be separated. Since I was in a hurry and really out of it from being sick on a plane, I decided to trust this woman. Big mistake. Turns out it was an optional charge, and she lied to me. I dont understand where any miscommunication could have happened. I flat out told her I dont need optional insurance because I have my own.3 hours of driving later I am reading the contract and find out that this charge is in fact optional, and it costs more than the car itself to rent. So I decided to give them a quick call to try and at least discontinue it. After being on hold over than hour, and being tossed between 3 different people, I finally reach somebody who can give me an answer. I am told that the only way to undo this is to come into the station and sign a waiver for the insurance. Well of course Im not going to waste 6 hours of my day to drive there and bus back again during my vacation in Napa.Since they wouldnt be reasonable at all and adjust to the circumstances of the situation (their employee lying to me), I go to dispute the claim. Turns out that doesnt work since they have some words and fine print to deny my claim, and I was dumb enough to actually trust that somebody working for this company would be honest.Enjoy the money you took from me, youre not seeing a single cent from me or my family again.
Worst experience renting a car EVER! And we travel multiple times a month. Whoever the genius was who decided to put one employee at the check in desk on a holiday weekend...BRAVO! An hour and a half later, and we still dont have our car. We called corporate and they could care less about our experience. Will never use Budget again. Enterprise has been the best so far for us. Would have used them but they were out of cars for the weekend.
Waited over an hour in line to get to even start the process of picking up the car I had reserved. There were less than 10 customers in front of me in line. But their were only 2 people working behind the counter. Somehow processing each customer took over 10 minutes apiece
Worst rental car company ever. Been there twice. First time we waited 2 hours past our pick up time because they had NO car of ANY type except 10 people vans. Second time we waited 2 hours (again!) and they would only give us a subcompact instead of the full size we rented (and paid!!) or paid extra $ for a higher class car. There are so much other companies, please consider another one! Don’t waste your time and money!
Even thou we had reserved a 12 person van over a month ago none was available at the San Jose airport. Gave some BS story about them being recalled that morning. Said they called everyone they had numbers for. I booked thru Expedia. They never called them or me,So Im calling BS on that excuse. The internet have no info about any recalls either. They did offer 2 SUVs in place of the van but that would have meant double for parking and such plus we all wanted to be together. That is why we wanted a van.So by them not having a van for me I had to rent from Alamo for over $100 more. We will overlook Budget rentals in the future. It seems they cannot keep their commitments to their customers.
Flat tire on car (while at the lot I was supposed to receive another vehicle but that one also had a flat)... Im guessing nails laid around rental lot causing flats... I called road side and my SUV did not have a spare and no equipment to fix a quick nail puncture...Went to swap car ... had to drive about 25 min away and had limited selection.. first car that I was to have swapped with smelled horrible.. only had one other equivalent SUV to choose from which turned out to be fine.Overall flat tire issue was very cumbersome and drawn out process and only solution was to tow the vehicle at my expense... nail repair could have been quick and easy (nail in main part of tire).
Service was garbage. At least the lady who attended to us was. She had no idea what she was doing. Not only that, but all the cars at that location are base model cars. Meaning no touch screens, rear view cameras, leather seats, nothing. You have better luck buying a used Toyota, then selling it after your trip is done. Also, the service was extremely slow.... Waited 45 minutes for a terrible vehicle. There wasnt even Sirius Sat radio in the thing. The one thing I did like about our car though was the air condition. It was lovely in the California sun :)
Ive been traveling to the bay for work the last 12 weeks, rented from other retailers twice and wished I didnt. They have some of the best prices, but more Importantly they try to make you happy before you drive away. Because of the staff here and the service they offer to customers, Ive began to use budget for all my travel/rental needs. Keep up the great work!

2022-04-26Just returned a intermediate Jetta Volkswagen after renting it for a week. So far it was uneventful and no problems. When I picked it up I noted and said there was no front license plate, had a dent by the hood, the lighter button was missing. They noted all this when I was leaving the exit.Had to wait 10 minutes as car was being cleaned. Car had 39k miles on it.Rented it for a week and car performed fine.I made sure to clean the car and fully fuel it up before returning it.After one week I returned it early today. At the returns the person who helped me said I would get an email. I insisted on getting a paper receipt and it said it was fully fueled up at return. I just checked my email and still no email from budget that I had returned it. GLAD I INSISTED ON THE PAPER RECEIPT.I took videos and pictures all around the vehicle before I left. Will update if budget tries to claim I didn’t return it or it has problems after I return it. After reading all the HORROR stories about budget and hertz recently, like renters being arrested for vehicles they are renting due to them reporting them stolen. I am very wary of renting. We shall see.

2022-03-09I shouldve read the reviews before booking. It took an hour after my pickup time to leave. The car was still being detailed and when they gave it to me with the gas almost on E. The vehicle has a bad smell and is noticeably unclean in the interior. Worst rental experience by far. They also charge higher for airline miles. Literally a few days in the key fob battery was dying so I called customer service who claimed I could get help with a new battery or vehicle at ANY location... which was a lie I had to go to the airport. They also didnt change the battery and just gave me a new vehicle which thankfully I was prepared for and didnt have a lot in the car and they didnt charge for gas.

2022-08-18The car we rented was great (I have a whole new appreciation for Kia). But, the wait to get to the counter was more than 30 minutes, as there were too few agents. No other car rental company had nearly as long a line. The agent was very helpful, but he gave us the wrong information, as the car was not where he told us it would be. I had to go to the customer service counter again to get the right location.A reasonable value, and the car rental center was very convenient to the terminal, but they do have some improvements to make.

2022-07-22The car rentals are cheaper but that is the only good thing about this place. If your willing to wait an INSANELY long amount of time to get it. Even if you have a reservation there is no seperate line so you are stuck waiting forever for the tellers to stumble through the whole reservation process with everyone else. Never more than 2 people working the front desk apparently. If you are in any sort of hurry expect to be late.

2022-06-18The customer service experience I had was horrible. Upon arriving at the rental car kiosk, I stayed in line for 1 hour before the checked me in and gave me a car even though I checked in online beforehand. Out of 6 kiosk only 1 had an employee checking people in and he was extremely slow. You could tell that the Budget employee didn’t care at all. What’s the point of online check in if you have to stand in line still??!! This is the second time I had this experience with Budget at the San Jose airport. I will never rent a car from Budget or Avis again. I made my reservation through Costco travel which I always use for rental car. I will definitely report my bad experience to them too and will recommend that they remove Budget & Avis from the list of vendors that they work with!!

2022-07-29After booking a month in advance, and calling the day before to make sure a specific vehicle that would fit my family was available, it was not. I know that car rental companies treat Rentals like first come first serve even if you book in advance – that is why I called the day before and specifically told them I needed a car that seats seven and that just any other car would not do for us. I was assured that one would be available when I got there. We had to wait over an hour for somebody to return a car so we would have one. When I asked to add on an hour or two to the return time I was told it would be $99 an hour. Also, before my flight I got on and chatted with a customer service agent on the app and they told me it would be $14 for a booster seat. I double checked and asked if it would be $14 for the entire rental time or per day. The agent told me for the entire rental time. So, I left our booster seat at home and got on the flight. When I got to the San Jose airport budget rental they told me it would be $14 per day. It’s just really hard to trust a Company that runs like a used car salesman wrote their policies.

2022-04-30Extremely disappointing experience. I guess you get what you pay for. It took an HOUR to get checked in and get my vehicle. I had reserved a small/compact SUV, and was told they didnt have one. They gave me a large SUV without giving me the option to switch to a car. When I finally got it, it reeked of air freshener. After a day or so, I realized that was to cover up a strong smoke smell. The right front tire had a slow leak, and I had to add air twice during my vacation. Various lights came on on the dash, but without a manual, I had no idea what some were. And this upgrade doubled my fuel costs. To add insult to injury, the car had Florida plates.

2022-08-30Car was clearly a rental car. Dings, dents and dirty interior when I picked it up. Car needed service at time of pick up. I paid a upgrade fee and ended up with a downgrade. The upgraded car I was given had no high beams, took 25 minutes to get me in a downgraded car. Didn’t get my money back from the downgrade. Customer service was horrible to deal with and extended the reservation for a day, cost me double the daily fee. Do yourself a favor and rent with someone else.

2022-08-22I have never dealt with such terrible customer service before. I am truly shocked at the lack of professionalism and understanding this team has as a whole. We made a reservation months in advance, and upon arrival, we were told we could not use a debit card for the remaining balance. Their website clearly states that is false, and that debit cards are an accepted form of payment both online (which is what we booked with) and in person. We were then told there was nothing they could do, and that we would have to call the 800 number for a refund. We are still (one month later) waiting for the rest of our refund, and I have made probably 10 phone calls so far. We ended up going to Hertz, which was an amazing experience and I highly recommend. Please reconsider booking with budget unless you want to be left in the dark without a rental car after paying. Budget almost ruined our entire trip.

2022-08-05I needed a vehicle that seated 6 people so I reserved a SUV. They didnt have one, they upgraded me to a Toyota Sienna Hybrid. Awesome customer service, very helpful with directions. Very pleasant experience. When I brought the vehicle back the gentleman scanned the code and sent me the receipt before I even walked away from the car! If I need another vehicle Ill be back to the SJC airport Budget car rental for sure!
