This is a hidden gem! Such a lovely little bookstore. They were super friendly & helpful.Loved the simplicity & clean space so the books are the focus yet theres a wonderful selection of housewares and goodies as well, very visually appealing. Then theres the added joy of their backyard patio/garden space that I adored. I could spend hours hereTheres also a fun treehouse space inside for kidsI will definitely go back, please check them out

Hmm, I dont know what to make of this place.As one of the last surviving independent bookstores in the area, Im quick to support this place. Theyll have my allegiance, even though their selection can be somewhat meager, especially in the science section.Also, Im never quite comfortable here - theres always someone hovering nearby, which, like the selection issue, is a direct result of small quarters.Still, the staff is friendly and well versed, and the bargain bin never disappoints. Ill be back.
So happy to see a bookstore in the neighborhood and next to a great coffee shop no less! I briefly browsed today cos just saw it opened and already felt this bookstore fit right in with the rest of the small shops around here. The place feels friendly and just what a small bookstore should be and cant wait to return and browse away!

2022-05-18Extremely well done cafe and bookstore with a beautiful serene garden. Seems a few things may need to be sorted out with logistics as pastries were not available in the morning and reported to be available at noon. Other than that the coffee service is very solid with a nice Choice of African or Latin drip. The bookstore is beautiful with interesting choices for children and adults. The garden is immaculate and well planned. Very nice addition to the neighborhood.

2022-06-13Loved this beautiful bookstore. There is beautiful backyard garden where you can seat down and read book you bought. Kids section is great. They have a little tree house with big bear and cushions on it at the back side of the store next to the kids book section and kids absolutely loved them. Highly recommended to give a visit when you are in this neighborhood. There was a coffee shop inside too but we didnt try the coffee.

2022-06-03As a neighborhood resident, I really cant speak highly enough about this wonderful business. Excellent curated selection of books, beautiful indoor space and outdoor garden, and now they serve extremely good coffee and espresso! Also everyone who works here is incredibly friendly and helpful. And did I mention that Black Bird is also an invaluable community space for the neighborhood, hosting readings/events and featuring rotating local artists on the walls? Oh, *and* they’ll order books for you! Really just cant say enough. Thank you to everyone involved, and keep up the great work.

2022-05-20So pleased that this lovely store has moved into an expanded space and now offers coffee! Its truly beautiful inside and there is a gorgeous garden in the back too. I have always enjoyed buying books from this purveyor and now it is an enhanced experience. Bravo!

2022-06-27An adorable bookstore with a beautifully curated selection, including the children’s section. The garden is a lovely spot to pause and sip coffee while the kids roam. Note that the bookstore itself opens at 9, though the coffee shop opens earlier.

2019-08-26This place is adorable, it has the most welcoming vibe and the kids books and okay area are absolute perfection. Its a perfect place to stop and let the kids play and read. Also, they have story time on Saturday - how sweet is that?

2019-03-04Great bookstore - one of my favorites in the city. Their selection is intentionally limited; it seems if a book makes it on the shelf here, its because someone at the store has actually read it and can recommend it. I like to think of the books as being pre-vetted for quality. They also have a cute garden center with succulents in the back. They let you bring in coffee, so I usually grab something from Trouble next door and browse.
