Sacramento California saw in the latter part of the 1930s a family bookstore that has thrived all the way the way to the present. The stores eclectic choice of new and used books invites all to browse. Currently located at S and 10th streets Insight cafe offers a place to continue with reading while sipping a delectable brew. A nice date with friend(s)— plan to spend quality time here.
Love this place and love the gentle enforcement of masks for people who think its still ok to enter the store with the mask in their hands instead of on their face, thank you for caring about the safety of people who want to browse a real bookstore instead of staying inside all the time because some people cant be bothered to follow the rules and cooperate in society like the rest of us. Affordable used books and comics and zines and merch -- shop local!
This might be the best bookstore I have ever been too! Unfortunately I don’t live in the are and wanted every chance to go here. I think I went inside at least a dozen times in the month and a half I was in the area, and loved it. An incredibly extensive collection and great vibes among the staff, I just wish I could go back. If you like reading and books even just a little bit: Go to Beers!
I am new to Sacramento and as I was passing by I said to myself, beer & books?! Some of my favorite things! although there was no beer, Beers Books did not disappoint and I only got through the US history section so I still have a lot more exploring to do. This is my new go to bookstore. As I very much dislike shopping at big box and chain stores for the reason that they pushed out local owners who knew and were friends with the people in their communities and its difficult now for small businesses to compete, I love supporting small businesses and I suggest others consider it too and shop here. The staff is very friendly and there is so much to select from!
We stopped by Beers Books for the first time after someone recommended it to me a week or so ago. We were greeted right upon entering with a smile. We were asked if we needed help with anything. Loved the feel of the store and enjoyed browsing books. I ended up getting a book. We came close to closing time so did not have that much time but will definitely go back. Thank you for the pleasant experience!
I only recently found this bookstore, sometime before the Covid pandemic struck, I wish I could stop there more often but time and work are no friend of mine. HOWEVER when I do go I am always leaving with a decent pile of books, replenishing my bookshelf at home with lovely finds. They have such a variety, so organized and well maintained. For future buyers I highly recommend picking up a book from Beer’s Books and heading to temple coffee for a drink to read with it.
You should come to this amazing place. Theres parking all up and down the street. Walk inside, it smells exactly how you want it to smell. Remember the book store smell? Do you get that when you order a book online? No, no you do not. Go make friends with the person at the counter, go have a conversation about literature. Go find the book you need and the book you didnt even know you wanted. If they dont have it, ask them to order it! Thats how you keep book stores open and alive. Thats how you support small business in the community. Stop ordering books online, and seriously, just go smell this amazing place. 5...NEIGH... 6 stars!
Love this place mostly great prices and an inviting atmosphere. The best book store in Sacramento imo. Great cheap sci-fi paper backs, comicbook trades at half off and knowledgeable staff. If you truly love books go to beers. If you are picking up john Grisham or a self help book you can probably find it here but beers will help you discover Kerouac, Vonnegut, marquez, Acosta, Ellison and Everett.
Great selection of books, and the prices are amazing! I walked out with more books than I should have, and the pocketbook thinks I only bought one. That’s a win in my book. Plus, the staff here are super nice and quickly helped me find what I was looking for. Highly recommend you visit if you’re a book lover.
Beers Books is a used book store thats been around for a long time. They have lots of books (and I do mean lots). They have everything from westerns to philosophy to horror and many more. Staff is always friendly and professional. This bookstore is a pretty good size place and the isles dont make you feel crowded. I really do like this place.
I love this place. Great used book store with fair prices, and if you like to browse, you cant ask for a better place to do it. This is a Sacramento institution that survived Amazon Books, so that says a great deal. Ive found very obscure books here. Good for collectors.
This store has a good variety of books to choose from. Old and new, paperback and hardback. Cant find what you want? No problem. They can order that book for you. They will also buy your books for credit or cash. The staff are professional and nice. And the store looks like its kept clean. This store is good sized and you dont feel cramped walking around through the isles. I recommend this place.
Great prices. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. They even shelved my self-published novel on display near the front. I sold a few copies through them, and they only took a small cut. They keep an excellent mixture of stock of whats popular and whats interesting/obscure. I hope these guys stay here a looong time
The guy there said hes are real sticklers with the rules although it looks run down and have mostly books no one wants. It was my first time there and was looking for old bibles. I wanted to return one of the books I purchased for $6 a few days before and the guy wouldnt give me a refund. He said hes a real stickler with the rules so I wont be returning and I will have a $6 credit FOREVER!!
I like the book selection. The store is located downtown where I work and I can easily walk to it. Parking is difficult. The used books are good quality and well maintained, no missing pages or strange substances. I was looking for a particular type of murder mystery. The clerk knew where the books are shelved and walked over to the shelf with me to show me the location. They accept cash and credit cards. There are chairs for sitting and reading before buying.
Its a nice shop and well organized. They know the value of the books they sell. So youre not gonna find an absurd deal on a rare first edition, but youll pay a fair price for it. Its quiet and they have a silent cell phone policy which is refreshing. I like stopping here when I pass by for work.
My go-to local bookstore. Super knowledgeable staff and such a huge selection. Its a welcoming atmosphere to just kick back and read a few pages. I find myself sitting in the aisle and just getting lost amongst the pages. I have sold some books to them which was a super easy experience. Of course I chose store credit! This is your place- cornerstone!
Seems very much like a used bookstore - with DVDs even. Prices were low. They buy used books or give you in-store credit. Amazingly, they have titles that I like, and they restock fairly constantly. Employees appeared to know where everything was - I did not ask about beer. Ive been back many times, plan to visit regularly.
Theres no doubt in my mind that Beers is the best used bookstore in Sacramento, especially for literature buffs. They have an easy tobrowse shelving system and theres lots of natural light. A decentselection of Sci-Fi classics and CA history too. The sale racks arereplete with nuggets and the staff is low-key and helpful. This isa place that takes books and reading seriously. And its a seriouslygood stop for any book-lover visiting Sacramento.
Their variety is astounding. Rather than overloading on your typical run of the mill books; e.g. Stephen King, Joseph Campbell, and Socrates, each respective to their own category, this establishment has opted to carry more niche works that Ive had to spend hours online just to stumble across. Theyre Asian literature section is particularly well developed with worthwhile translations.
This is hands down the best place to buy or sell books in Sacramento! The environment is totally cool for people of any age, and the selections are some of the most diverse that I have seen in a book store.I went in and sold a book for a VERY fair price, and browsed around, noticing they carry everything from personal memiors to comics! (Even an entire section on how to draw comics)*COMIC FANS READ*They have an entire row of bookshelves full of every kind of comic book you have ever thought of, from Marvel to Image comics! (I saw a mint saga trade going for 5 bucks!)
This is one of the few bookshops that will pay cash for used books. The collection is great and the prices for used books are reasonable. New books are expensive, but this is less the stores fault and more the fault of the industry/publishers. There are little nooks where customers can sit and read and the staff are very helpful.
It is almost like the experience of a library...Not so much a public library.. More like an invitation to browse in the personal library of a new and gracious welcoming friend. I went inside to take a little peek... I left with almost too many books to carry... I will return! Thanks, Beers 😍
FIRST is they sell the BEST canvass tote bags for only $8. My original is 15 Years old, hangs off my wheelchair crammed full and heavy yet not a fray to be seen. Comes with the image of the cat who strolled in as a homeless kitty and lived a great life until age took its toll. Gone but most certainly living on and now on T-shirts too😺 And the books OMG the books! A bibliophiles dream for selection of material and pricing wrapped within the feel only a bookstore provides the soul. Ahhhhh Beers Books, why arent you there now avoiding insane holiday store mania in favor of a gift that truly says, I know you.
I had about 50 brand new 30 to $50 books and they only bought 4 books that were the low end of all of them and paid $5 smh they tell u on the phone they pay $2 for an $8 book it took more gas to get there and back home then what they paid and charge high price for older books would not recommend to anyone

2022-04-26This bookstore is a jewel — it is well-organized by welcoming staff. I found a treasure but left without it. Halfway home to Sonoma County, I called and asked about shipping. Yes, I was told, we can ship the book. I have never received a book through the mail so promptly and beautifully packaged. If this bookstore isnt part of your Sacramento circle, it should be.

2022-05-24A great used book store. Staff very friendly and accommodating. I was very disappointed when trying to sell used books to them. It was a huge waste of my time and energy taking in the old books, some quite rare. They offered very little and I ended taking most of them back home.

2021-02-17Absolutely loved this store, they have such an eclectic selection at AMAZING prices. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and seemed to read my mind when recommending books. Great selection of esoteric publications, they have everything from metaphysics, satanism, tarot decks, to the highest and most holy Jesus Christ, so they certainly dont discriminate nor judge based on your preferred reading material. This stack of 15 books only cost $122 - average $8/book!!

2021-08-05Disneyland for readers. I so wish I lived closer to them. I took advantage of being in Sac, and visited them. I bought a ton of books, including a couple of collectors items in Spanish and a vintage edition of Of Mice and Men.

2018-05-27Great used book store with every type of genre from which to choose. Plus, all copies are of high quality. The staff is helpful. The only thing that dings the five star review is their odd prohibition of using cell phones.
