I was looking for a socks in my diaper bag to put on my kid because I had forgotten to do it before she took her nap. One of the workers comes over marching and acting like my husband and I are stealing something when Im literally just looking for socks! As soon as I pull them out she has the dumbest look on her face and pretended that she was putting reorganizing books in the next shelf. She had seen that we had a basket with books inside and that nothing had went into the bag but she still came over like she was going to accuse us of something. I understand that he and I are young and not of white ethnicity but Barnes and Nobles need to work on their discreetness and make sure that someone is actually stealing something before they start assuming/ accusing things. After she saw me take the socks out, she preceded to say something that I think was code for all clear into her walkie. When we went up to PAY the cashiers kept looking at us like we did something wrong. We go there pretty often but now we might just start getting books on Amazon because the workers dont know how to act.
Great place to shop for books: there is a huge selection of all sorts of literature for kids and adults. The staff is helpful, there is a small coffee shop inside. In kids section there is a train table, but make sure to stop by at customer service to grab couple of trains for you little one to play. There is a toys section but not so many board games which I would say is a must for the book store that big.And there is a whole section with vinyl music collection!
Unprofessional and they pressure you to become a member. I finally agreed one day and the guy behind the counter didn’t even know how to do it? He took 15 minutes holding up the line and he kept messing up. Like it’s your job to pressure customers into becoming members but you don’t even know how register them? And on top of that my brother applied for a position there. They turned him down without even considering an interview despite the fact he is overqualified. I found that to be a bit ignorant. Don’t waste your money here folks, they have plenty of free books at libraries
Holding a mobile device in your hand is just not the same as having the real book. The texture, feel and even scent of the pages as you flip through them as you read eagerly to get to the next page, is not the same experience as reading it online. Barnes and Nobles is the last Large Bookstore that left, that I know of. I hope they stick around for a long time. They offer a cafe with tables and chairs, so you can get your coffee fix while you browse. Lounge area for adults and children. When i look through books sometimes I choose a few possibilities, have a seat and skim through them order to decide which ones Im purchasing. They also have a huge toy selection and a huge Harry potter section, the most Harry Potter memorabilia I have ever seen any other place carry. The last time I visited was on Christmas Eve. While all the other stores were out of inventory on just about everything, I found exactly what my daughter asked for here. Yes I did pay a few bucks more than i would have elsewhere (that is if they even had stock) but it was nothing too crazy overpriced, it was exactly what I expected to pay as a last minute Christmas shopper.
Their policy on sports and Pokemon cards is ridiculous and inconsistent compared to other locations. They allow you 1 sports card purchase and 1 Pokemon cards purchase while the other stores allow 2 of each SKU to be purchased. I dont like being made to think Im doing something wrong by wanting to purchase more than 1 item. I understand you are combating scalpers but this hurts genuine collectors.
Covid-19 Review : I was so happy to see Barnes & Noble open for in-store shopping. Parking is much easier with fewer people going to the store, such that I even managed to find a shaded parking spot in the closest aisle behind the building. Its clear that the store have made changes to keep everyone safe. There is hand sanitizer on a table outside the store for customers to use before walking inside. And you will also find plenty of hand sanitizer all over the store whenever you feel you need a refresh. Restrooms are open, and they have a bottle of hand sanitizer you can use afterward when walking back into the store area. There are floor markers near checkout to remind people to keep their distance while waiting to pay for their purchases. Before the pandemic, Barnes & Noble configured their bookstore with bookcases in rows with narrow aisle. It would be a challenge to keep social distance with this old setup. They have rearranged their shelves to create larger U shaped areas which allow customers to more safely browse while keeping 6 ft distance from each other. See photo I uploaded showing how they made it more spacious. The tables that are usually set up near the entrances have been spread apart more (and there are fewer tables than before). The childrens room no longer have the tables & seating near the window, where parents used to hang out with their young children. And all of the curved benches, near the stage, at the opposite end of the childrens area have been removed to discourage people hanging out. All chairs/seating throughout the store have been removed. You can no longer sit and read. The cafe is open. You can pick up a snack or drink, but all the cafe seating (tables and chairs) have been removed.
I have been receiving great customer service from this store during the shelter in place. While they are only open for curbside pick up, there have been a few issues with ordering online. I have called a few times and AJ has helped me both times with picking out puzzles. He Id very knowledgeable and does not make me feel like Im a burden when I ask a for specific styles/brands!
This place has a great selection but it was very difficult to find someone to help you find anything. The employee that did end up helping me though was efficient (yay!). I would definitely recommend having a picture of the book youre looking for, or even having it pulled up on the website on your phone that show them.
The aged male cashier refused to give me online price on one book even though I bought another one at online price and I am already in the store. When asking the 20% off promised by a staff at buy-online-pickup-at-store booth, he alleged that discount was for members only, of which he pressed me to buy one. It was the same man who once gave me a hard time in returning even within 14 days. BN is all about the money now. How degrading. The whole store has a weird atmosphere, you gotta look at their woke collection. Will stop going there.
I take my Daughter as a reward for going to school n doing well. She loves the Selections and I love to see her happy n doing well in school. This Barns and Nobel is Tops. Friendly and know what they are helping you with... We are here every 2weeks and the lil Cafe that serves Starbucks is Awesome too.
Bought this LP on their online store. Instead of four sides, I got two A/B sides.Tried to return to this to their local store as they mentioned” u can return to warehouse or local store on the receipt”, then I got rejected by their front desk. The reason is “we can’t receive this item to damage our inventory because it’s a damaged item” like it’s my fault to get a wrong item. Then I point out on the receipt that I should be able to return to the local store, response is “online and offline store are separate right now, there is nothing I can do” wo showing any responsibility to help.barbes and noble, if this customer service didn’t kill you, I would be surprised. Will not come back again.
At this point I really do not know what to say. They had lot of toys. But as a bookstore I have my doubts. Lots of open space. I am still looking for more books. Old fashion hard back books. Not on sale. Books that are worth having an reading. I never did make it to the music section, I was tired of walking the store. They really have twice the square footage they need. With a coffee bar in the center.... but eating & drinking is a another matter. You be the judge.... am I too hard on them?????
Great to come here after an year or so. Nothing beats seeing real books in front of you. Spent an hour browsing but just got a couple of books. For more serious buying- would still go online. Store is very nice, well arranged and amazing helping customer support. Folks checking in on you for help. Cant beat that experience. An hour well spent.
The staff (Mary) helped me with much kindness and insight. I was researching on my phone in the middle of an aisle and she asked if she could help with anything. I looked like a deer in the headlights as I was looking for gifts and she was patient, brainstormed ideas, and walked me to various shelves. Thank you for helping me find a great gift Mary!
I love coming to this place. Even though I get most of my books online, its always fun to come to a place where one can browse unburdened by the opinions of all the other consumers in the world and discover stories that can become your favorite, but that you would have never found had you not stumbled on it by chance.
Cant give no stars or I would. The staff are not trained in California State Law, I went in with a $10 gift card and asked for 3 drinks that were on the card placed above the cooler on the right. After she told me the three drinks that I inquired about where in the warehouse, I asked what was the least expensive thing so I could cash in my gift card since that would bring the gift card UNDER the $10 threshold the California State Government set for receiving cash from gift cards , and was told they only refund cash if the card is under $1. I told her no Google it , and she called the manager, who i hope explained the law to her and EVER OTHER EMPLOYEE THEY EVER HIRE.
Great selection of books. You can find quiet spots to sit and read. They have a good selection for children too. Keep tabs on their events schedule for kids activities. Good deals in general. Typically you can always find cheaper books on Amazon. However the experience of going to the bookstore and skimming through the books is fun; I typically find interesting books, which I would have missed otherwise. There is plenty of parking on the side and in the back.
I loved their collection of books and spent a couple of hours just browsing. There is a nice Cafe in case you feel like grabbing a quick snack - you can even sit and read with a cup of coffee. There is not a lot of staff but those around are quite helpful (but can be a wait). The kid section is great too with story telling - so the LOs can also spend time enjoyably.
A great book store, and has a Starbucks inside. I honestly really enjoy getting a iced almond milk latte and just sitting their reading my magazine. It is really just a fun place. Their are so many books some at better prices than others. If you dont like to read then their are really cute Japanese toy section. As well as many other toy and gift areas.chilled vibes, and I am here for it
The first time I visited this location was in 1999. I am impressed that they sustained through the internet, electronics, the economic crash, and most recently covid. I always return to Barnes & Noble prefering books, as they are reliable, and never need to be recharged. I picked up a book reveared by many iconic figures, thoughout history. Discourses, Fragments, Handbook by Epictetus. A book of core ethical principles to help people lead a good life. I thought if Marcus Aurelius and Teddy Roosevelt kept a copy then I must have one, too!
I havent been to a Barnes and Noble in quite some time. I believe not since they closed the store at the Prune Yard. This store has been remodeled since I last was in many years ago. They have a Starbucks and a special area for childrens books. Didnt check it out since I had no need for them. Was disappointed that the Nook area was very small. They dont have the comfy chairs that were are the Prune Yard store but they had more chairs. My friends thought it was very nicely laid out. As usual, you can spend hours in there. The employees were very helpful and friendly. Was able to easily reserve a book for later purchase. Will be notified when book comes into the store. Very happy to be able to go to a brick and mortar store to actually see and skim the books and support the Nook platform and Barnes and Noble. Wish I had more time but I was actually there to purchase a new Nook and some hardbacks .
Store is open with less hours. You are still able to browse the books and magazines, I did not see any signs discouraging this. I limited my book-touching by only picking up books that I truly wanted to read. The inventory of books, magazines, toys and games are still plentiful. No chairs or desks available, even in the cafe, which is understandable. Purchasing online and store pickup is available.
Last time we came in to buy a book, the cashier asked me to buy a membership. I did not. Why bother paying for a membership while we dont buy books that often? I normally buy books from Amazon or library. They are much cheaper than B&N. The childrens area is spacious, it includes a book reading area and a train table. I would say it is quite kids friendly.
Lovely store. I love coming here with my kid and just read a bit. She learns to appreciate books and reading and looks forward to these visits. The kids section is especially nice. The only thing I dont like is the amount of toys they gave which are a bit of a distraction but I guess its fair given they are a business and not a library. We usually buy a book or two when we are there so we are not just enjoying the facility
I love Barnes And Noble, my son said this is his second home, but putting my debit card on automatic renewal for my membership without my knowledge is not a good thing, I realized that they did charged my debit card for the last two years without my knowledge. Please do not do this, you have a very good reputation to be destroyed by just 27 dollars. We have trusted you.
Clean, nice store with lots of parking. They host events regularly with various authors of different genres (and I was fortunate enough to meet James Murray there a few months ago!). The cafe is more well located inside the store compared to other B&N locations Ive been to.
Im a reader. And when I walked into Barnes & Noble I felt like I was in heaven. It was my first time there and everyone was very helpful and help me find the books I was looking for. We have a section in the middle if you would like a cup of coffee or a soda or a snack you can buy it there. The store is very clean and very inviting.
Good selection, friendly staff, comfortable seats placed around the store in in the near the cafe, and yummy refreshing snacks and beverages from the cafe will make your visit to Barnes & Noble a pleasant and enlightening one.Ive been here to get guide books for a vacation to New York, to get books to brush up my skills for work, and to get a gift for a loved one. While discounts might be better online, its great to have a chance to take a browse through a stack of books or magazines right here right now.
This has become my favorite place. It might be because of my love for books, but I love it. It’s peaceful and quiet, and they have amazing reward programs. Free books, free cookies, free coupons, they’ve got it all. Mind you, they have a Starbucks too! It’s absolutely wonderful.
I havent been to Barnes & Noble for years...and feel so sorry about it. So happy this store still exists on Stevens Creek! Bought 6 indestructible books for my 1 year old granddaughter, love them! Bought a great fitness book, awesome mindfulness journal, had a great soy latte from Starbucks. Really enjoyed my time there.
They must have every book on the planet. Probably cheaper to shop on Amazon. But going there, you can get it now!! Plus you can physically hold the product before you buy it. & its a neat atmosphere. They have a Starbucks there with tables & chairs. Little places to sit all over the store. People relaxing & enjoying their reading. Very soothing, relaxing & peaceful atmosphere. The employees are really cool. Its an enjoyable shopping experience. (Almost reminds of a really clean, comfortable, well lit library... except you dont have to bring the books back because you buy them!!)
For books its still great, but theyve seriously started neglecting their cafe. Tables without chairs, it feels like theres fewer tables in general, and it also feels more cramped. The ability to sit down and have a cup of coffee before browsing was great, but the last few times Ive gone Ive ended up going somewhere else to get coffee and not coming back for books (which they seek online too).
Thank God we still have a bookstore. Grate location with easy parking. Coffee area is not big enough for all to find a seat. I wish they had more nooks with chairs for taking the load off and browsing the books while sitting. I would love to see their craft / Maker section expand. Its hard to select these kinds of books over the internet even with previews.
I love Barnes and Noble! This store has such helpful people and an amazing selection. Plus, theres always great books on sales and clearance. I highly recommend paying for a membership as it really saves you on purchases even in cafe which has great food. The lemon bars are my favorite.
The staff are always friendly and eager to help out. The general layout of the store is very user friendly, but it looks like its been months since anyone has actually organized the shelves, which can make it frustrating to find less popular books. It would also help if there was anyone staffed in the music section who was familiar with genres and artists. Overall its an enjoyable experience if you want to browse and find something new.
Overjoyed to have a Barnes & Noble still open for business, and nearby. The great convenience of online book searching, availability of e-book and audio books for immediate download cant be underestimated. However, some experiences you just can not enjoy online- and are best satisfied by a trip to a great bookseller in brick-and-mortar form. One experience I particularly value about visiting a physical book store, such as Barnes & Noble, is the relaxed comfort of walking through the aisles, being reminded of other topics, subjects, authors and titles- that Id not actually come to purchase that day. Its like walking past a buffet of tasty treats for your mind, heart and spirit- reaching out from the shelves offering to take you on an adventure, answer your questions, or paint vivid portrayals of times long past or future. The other experience is being able to look, touch, feel and flip through differing versions of foreign travel guide books. After all, on todays visit, thats what Id come here for. I love to pick up one publishers brand of travel guide, flip though the sections particular to the travel destination and activities Im researching, then repeat the process with a few other brands of travel guide. The right book, the BEST book is the one which isnt TOO heavy to travel with, provides all the right introductions to the location, some inspiring photos of top places to see or visit, and includes valuable insights into local shops, restaurants and traditions which one may wish to explore.Sometimes its just enough to select the one introductory book, that covers most basis. After a quick initial read (after purchasing the first book) I can then do online research, talk to others who have been to the destination to ask personal recommendations, or go back online to get the most updated reviews and maps.Added benefit- after returning from a great journey abroad, I will one day see this guide book on my bookshelf at home. As I pick it up and flip through the dog-eared pages with my own comments in the margins, a flood of happy memories will wash over me, as if Im experiencing the voyage all over again. The physical book is coach, reference, advocate, guide, companion, and lives on as a fine memento of life experience. With all the details frozen in the cultural and historic period of publication. If you havent been to a B&N lately, come back- walk the aisles, pick out a few titles, and discover the magic that happens when an author reaches out and grabs hold of you from a shelf as you walk by. Bring your kids, too- so that they may experience the adventure for themselves, before brick-and-mortar booksellers and libraries become isolated museums of times past.
Its rare to find brick and mortar book stores. The store is one of the larger Barnes and Nobles that I have been in. Everything is well maintained and although several people are reading books children are playing with toys, everything seemed to be where it should. The staff were knowledgeable of where niche book categories would be and were eager to help checkout. Finally, the baristas were very kind and efficiently served several guests. Will definitely be back.
This is a family friendly place. We have been taking our kids here since they were toddlers for reading time and fun activities. They are teens now and they love their manga section and art supplies. We enjoy their magazines, Starbucks, Religious section and music/videos section. There is plenty of parking.
I think I like this place. Pretty much have to go there when Mom is in town. Have pretty fond memories of visiting in my college years. Hasnt changed much since. The staff seems nice, not that I interact with anyone other than the cashiers. Does it matter to even talk about the inventory or selection? With online shopping, pretty much the only reason to shop at a big name bookstore is for last-minute gifts and non-book-related items. Bought a nifty notebook for self, chocolate for someone for Christmas, resisted the over-priced sugar delivery mechanism known as a pastry, and had the person in line before me spoiling the Star Wars movie I was going to see the very next day. As I write this, I realize this is where my people are, so this is why I visit. And earplugs have now found another meaningful purpose for me in a place for reading.
Such a nice bookstore! There is a huge selection of books. The children section is also very large with lots ot variety. There is also a cafe in the middle with seating. Personally, I love their cooking section - a wonderful selection of books to browse! In the front of the store there are discounted books and also recommended reading.A nice vibe, clean, and a great place to spend some time or go for a date.
I love the physical bookstore like Barnes & Nobles. Though this is not my favorite location, the place offers its spacey private parking lot. The store is big inside. It will be GREAT if staff will spend just a little more time to organize the poetry section, add a little display, or poetry selection for all selection, etc... for easy access. Thanks for all your work!
Beautiful store, conveniently located at San Thomas and Stevens Creek- huge childrens section (I mean HUGE!!) - the kids are free to sit, read and explore in a safe and comfortable atmosphere, and the staff is always asking if they can help with something! Great coffee shop and a huge selection of books, along with lots of sale items! Lots of parking.
I love Barnes & Noble. The smell of new books. A quiet and relaxing place to just sit and be. They also have a cafe located directly in the middle of the store. Grab a muffin/croissant and a coffee/tea, your favorite read being a book, magazine or newspaper grab a nice spot and just chill. They also have a kids section where they also can just relax with a hot cocoa and book. Storytime for little ones on the weekends in the morning. Become a member for $25 or join Kids Club for free.
Its a little roomier than other bookstores, which gives it less of the intimate bookshelves atmosphere, but its very well-organized. The cafe is generous and hospitable, and sometimes there are events, which makes for a good community atmosphere. Compared with other Barnes & Noble bookstores, this one focuses a little more on toys, trinkets, and bestsellers. That said, it still has a robust recommendations shelf and its themed displays are a great way to discover something new.
Great Book Store with a cozy ambiance and a setup that invites you to read more. They serve coffee and desserts right in the middle of the store and have some tables to either, read, drink coffee, work or all of them together.Great kids section where they can run around a little bit and read some books as well as play with some toys already provided by the store, this toys are mostly educational.
This is a great place to visit. In addition to the selection of books that youd expect they have an extensive game area. The staff here are helpful and friendly, they consistently offer to help and know the store well. I called looking for a very popular game recently and they spent the time to search their store to find and hold the one remaining copy of this tiny game for me. This showed that they really cared about looking for my one little item.Overall I would venture out of my way to pay this place a visit because they will go the extra mile for you but its also a great place to browse and get inapired.
Do people come here to work in public and read for free? It feels like the public library, but with random stuff you can buy. The retail experience is definitely not what it use to be. Its still a good place to pass time. They have random toys and things that are good for browsing. I dont see myself actually buying books here, but every so often, something may draw your eye. The cafe inside this store is also a bit of a mess. Theres a lot of seating, but I cant imagine feeling comfortable sitting for too long on the uncomfortable chairs and tables. Its a shadow of its former self. Its no longer an experience anymore. Its a place between somewhere and nowhere.
Wide selection of books, toys, and games. I specifically went to this location because their website said it had all the books I wanted in stock but it was wrong. One of the employees was great about helping me and we found two of the three that I couldnt find on my own but they didnt have the last one I wanted anywhere. Customer service was AWESOME. She took time to really help me even though it was a busy day. I am just disappointed that their inventory count was wrong.
When the Internet is taking over, taken over? ... its so refreshing to find a real life bookstore. Well Barnes and Noble is more than a simple book store. Its a coffee shop, a book shop, a record (listening materials and videos) shop, newsstand, and more. Find all of the old and the new (tech and books) and get immersed in the place. Fun place to visit and you will likely spend time here.
Ive visited here this morning and I didnt have enough time to find the books I was going to buy. So I asked the staff in customer service where I can find the books that I want to buy. She was very kind and found the books accurately and quickly for me so I was able to do next things without being late. I really appreciated it.
My kids and I love Barns & Noble. This Book store always gets a 5 stars review. Friendliest staff if you ever need assistance. I recommend the book club membership if your tring to get your kids to read more. they love 💘 chapter books. And they have such a wide selection to choose from. We will be back.
I went there in April and was surprised to see how unorganized the magazine shelves were. There were so many old issues ramdomly displayed and it took long for me to get what I was looking for.Gift and stationary section and other book shelves were neatly decorated, but toy section could be improved as well. By visiting this store, honestly I thought itd be much easier buying magazines online.
I love Barnes and Noble. When I have a question about a book being in stock, the staff always either knows if the have it and where its located or, they take the time to look it up in the computer. They also always walk me to the area the book is located and help find it. That is GREAT customer service. Even the people at the cash registers are nice. In addition to books, the have a good selection of interesting games, ink pens, and different journals. Plus, I always get a coupon for the cafe when I check out. The store is orderly, clean, and the have a great staff.
Ive been going to this bookstore since the early 90s. Finally had a book signing of my own. Have always enjoyed the atmosphere, sitting down and having a coffee and finding some magazines or books to read. Now, one of the few places to get toys and puzzles. Magic cards too.
I love Barns and Noble. This is the second time been in this store. I asked a lady for help she was nice and told me she was helping someone else. I asked her to point me in the direction I need the Ghostbuster books. She plus she got a worker to help me. The gentalman liked Ghostbusters and was very helpful. I bought a wonderful cookbook for our 7 year old grandson that showed step by step with pictures how to made each thing. With his moms supervision our 7 year old grandson made dinner. A Ghostbuster book our 11 year old grandson. Our 11 year old read half of his book. Both grandsons were so happy receiving a book. Best day ever.
This was a lovely store! They certainly have a friendly staff and keep the store very clean. The books I look for are always in stock. Their music selection isnt that diverse, but thats alright. Not many people are still buying old CDs like me. I would definitely come back. If you have children, they have a large child-friendly area that has an extensive book selection. I will be taking my sisters here when I have a chance!
Large location with plenty of books, a large kids section, collectibles and toys, and a cafe. Bike racks in front and back. Ive been happy with the woodworking/wood carving section. Has a couple of shelves and I see new books every few weeks or so. Very large collection of cook books.
I am a Big Fan of B&N. I enjoy the staff there because they are very knowledgeable and friendly. It is also a very nice place to meet new people and begin new friendships, which I have on several occasions. Dont forget, good coffee as well. Hope to see you there someday and when we strike up a conversation and if you have read this review, you will know that I am real and GOOGLE doesnt make up these reviews. Im just saying.
What I love about this store is the consistency in selection and the customer service. Its generally not difficult to find an employmee to ask for help if someone hasnt offered it already. I gave it only 4 stars because the parking is very limited, especially if you are going during the weekend on in the evening. I am also impressed with how well kept and organized the products are. I rarely am unsuccessful in locating a specific item where it is supposed to be. One thing I would like to see is more of is an area or even furniture in the childrens section. I always see lots of kids reading books on the floor or wherever they can find a spot and its usually in an aisle or just doesnt look too comfortable. Another thing, Ive noticed it sometimes takes them a long time to get new releases in movies on their shelves (up to two or three weeks at times). All in all, Ive never had a bad experience here and the product selection and customer service are top notch.
I had not been here in a while and boy has it changed. A fairly large section is set aside for a cafe which serves Starbucks coffee, grilled cheese, and desserts like cheesecake factory. Seating for the cafe was a little tight but there were chairs all over the place. Everyones sitting and reading their magazine or book I wonder if anyone actually buys things there, haha. Nice bookstore cant really comment on prices.
Great Barnes and Noble where you usually find everything you can expect here and more. My family and I appreciate the kids section. There is a very wide variety of things to buy from books to toys. Besides there is plenty of space to park at the back of this store and this is yet another great feature of this store that all parents will certainly appreciate.
Helpful staff! I cannot express enough about the staff crew integrity, they really go above and beyond for the customers. This is a great place to come and read with my daughter...The chairs are not comfy, but hey I guess they dont want folks napping in the library. :)
Want to purchase a new book? Come here. You will get what you are looking for. With a direct feeling of a physical book and the special fresh book smell. You can spend hours here to preview some books, work on your projects while enjoy the Starbucks coffee. You can easily find a spot to fit yourself. I like this place. If you are a frequent book buyer, get a member ship. Worth the money you pay.
I actually want to live here! Its a pretty huge book store with a lot of books, magazines, games and toys, gifts, music (CD and vinyl). They have seats all over the place, so you can just grab a book and spend a few hours here. Also they have a cafe with starbucks coffee (better than nothing) and snacks. And you definitely should check their sale section. They have a lot of beautiful illustrated books here. Also good parking with a lot of spaces.
So cool to still be able to go to a bookstore. One of only two Barnes and Nobles in the area that are left. Admittedly, I often look around here at the offerings and end up downloading the book on my Kindle later, but when in need of a physical book (usually a cookbook) on short notice this is a good place to go.
After opening up from shutdown I was looking forward to taking my grandkids to shop here, but it was disappointing. I live in the Sacramento area and compared to our Birdcage store this SJ location needs help. The way the shelves are U shaped is annoying, kept having to walk back around to continue shopping genre. Heavy on paperbacks, which I guess is cost effective but I dont want to add them to my keeper collection. That was also annoying, big space- light stock.
I visited the Barnes & Noble located on Santana Row in San Jose on Sunday, June 17, 2018. This was my first time at this particular location. I found the parking lot to be fairly spacious behind the building. The store itself is several hundred square feet and fully stocked with reading material, crafts, toys, etc. The employee staff were made themselves available and were very helpful and knowledgeable. I purchased a few books and renewed my membership. I highly recommend this establishment. 8.0/10
If I have to burn through a bottle of my own sanitizer to be able to browse a Barnes & Nobles like the old days, I will. Massive shout out to the team for keeping the place open even during lockdown. During COVID, the only entrance is in the back of the store, and you are able to go in (with mask of course) and look through books at your own risk. There’s sanitizer stations at the registers and the entrance. Great place to get presents without waiting for Amazon to ship them!
Wow, talk about awesome customer service! They walk you to a book to help you locate it and if they don’t have it they find it for you online to shop to you and it comes fast. Cookies are awesome at coffee bar. I have actually made trips there just for the cookies! Love this place! Parking is plentiful at the back and right on the corner ofSan Tomas and Stevens Creek. I could spend hours there!
I usually bring my 4 year old daughter to this place as a way for her to buy some toys from time to time. She squeals with delight every time she enters the store and makes a beeline for the kids/toys section. For adults, has a reasonable selection of books/magazines. Although some aisles (like physics/maths) do not appear to have changed significantly in the past couple years.I generally buy a book if its within a reasonable differential with Amazon (sorry , Barnes and noble) :)Store also has a reasonable seating area for people, although the electrical outlets appear to have been generally hidden/covered-up, as the philosophy seems to not engage long term store visitors.Good for bring kids along for special reading days etc.
The fact that a large, chain bookstore still exists should give this place a high rating. I found their technology section to be up to date. Parking can be hit or miss but theres always something in the rear parking lot. Ive never had foods or drinks there but the option seems very popular.
Barnes and Noble is not what it was in earlier days. The odds of finding something unexpected have gone down, and one no longer enters with the sense that theyll probably have that odd but not too odd book. That said, they are largely whats left for the chain bookstores, and the new Amazon bookstores are underwhelming. This is the largest Barnes and Noble in the Silicon Valley and its selection is large, if conventional. They do still have a music and DVD section. And after covering them over a few years ago, they have uncovered the plugs at the edge of the cafe, making it a suitable stop if you want to charge your phone while you have a coffee. Still the best third-place bookstore in the San Jose area.
They have a great movie and music section! I didnt know they had one till I went there. The guy behind the counter, Miles was very nice and helped me find what I was looking for.I was also looking for a textbook for school but they dont carry text books the in the store. Trever was great in informing about how to go about ordering books. They dont have any outlets for charging your laptop but they do have some chairs and space to work and the cafe is nice enough. All around good store.
I love Barnes & Noble! At this point its almost just a nostalgic thing. Ill go here for physical copies of books just for the enjoyable book store experience. Grab a coffee, walk the aisles, select books (or magazines), sit in the cafe and decide which to buy. Also, one of my favorite places to do Christmas shopping.
This is my local bookstore and I love coming here when I have some downtime. It is huge and literally has any book on any topic. The magazine section is pretty extensive too. There is a nice cafe inside too with plenty of seating if you need to get work done. Its not too loud either. I know a lot of Barnes and Nobles have closed down but I hope this one stays open! Buying a book is always better at the bookstore NOT on Amazon!
One of the last big bookstores in the area. Mostly a gift store now, with books as a main offering, which makes sense financially. Sign of the times that Im already feeling nostalgic for a big box bookstore before its even had a chance to go under. They also have the best brick & mortar DVD selection anywhere this side of Rasputin Music.
An older store with a nice staff and good cafe. AJ was particularly helpful and made great recommendations for the horror genre. He was incredibly knowledgeable and personable and it made my trip and finding something new to read that much easier! I definitely recommend touching base with AJ if you visit this particular branch and are looking for a new, exciting story to read!
Customer service is so attentive here. Everything is kept rather organized. I just wish theyd wipe down the search kiosk keyboard or switch it out with something newer. It looked and felt really grimy. I liked how the aroma of hot chocolate seems to just waft over while I browse the magazine section.
I think I will always hold a bit of a grudge against Barnes & Noble for outlasting Borders and any book that I could get here, I could just as easily get online or at a used bookstore for less. If youre not familiar, Barnes & Noble only sells new items and does not engage in buy/trade activities. That said, it does as well as one might expect from a large chain location, as far as books are concerned. This location offers a variety of other features and is a handy location for last-minute gift shopping. There is some parking in front and around the side of the building with a large lot in back. Ive never had difficulty finding parking. The store and its restrooms are clean.Getting help here isnt always the quickest process, but they do keep the check-out counters staffed and the lines moving. There is a counter at either end of the store, which Ive always thought was kind of neat; if there is a line at one counter, you have the option to go to the other. They do offer a paid membership program. Personally, I havent found it to be worthwhile. They have a very large childrens area thats kept somewhat separate from the rest of the store and which includes murals on the walls and a little stage that hosts story time events (theres a schedule on their website).Theres a music and movies section separated by a doorway with an anti-theft system. They carry DVDs and Blu-ray (including the Criterion Collection), as well as CDs and vinyl. There also used to be a small Gamestop set up in that area, but theyve been gone for years and Barnes & Noble doesnt carry any video games. This location has always had a small cafe in the center of the store. Ive never eaten there, so I cant say much about it. They have small tables for people to sit at and folks mostly seem to get coffee there. They also have always had a section near the front register dedicated to gift cards, which is convenient if youre buying someone a gift.Theyve branched out in recent years from only carrying books and other media to also stocking an increasingly hefty selection of board and card games and gift items. The games are located by the cafe and their selection is very decent. You can also purchase a small variety of decks of playing cards here, as well as dice, figurines, and other collectibles. The gifts/miscellany can be found near the front counter and, to a more limited extent, the rear counter. They have a variety of journals available, pens (including fountain and calligraphy pens), book lights, bookmarks, notebooks, and a variety of other less book-related things.
I used to come to this Barnes & Noble often, but was sad to see what it has become. We were going to use the cafe area to do some work, but the area was filthy. Food and crumbs on the table, food on the floor, chairs and tables moved everywhere, and was full of people just using it to read new books, essentially making them used.Theres no reason to come here.Never buy here, just read the book at the cafe.If people really want a sample of the book, there are samples on Amazon. If you want to buy, just order like-new used on Amazon. Its the same thing but a lot cheaper. You like the cafe? Well, good luck finding a dirty seat with food all over the place.
Plenty of parking , fully staffed , friendly and useful service. The employees here must love their job , even during busy times they dont seemed stressed and I always catch them smiling.Book selection is large and organized effectively. You can call ahead and have them place a book on hold !
Whats there not to love about B&N? You get to find a plethora of books and magazines, in every subject imaginary, and coffee shop with bar seating to go with it. Plenty of reading chairs too. I just wish theyd upgrade their 1950s seating furniture... Somewhat of an updated is needed on that front. Else from the antique but not comfortable seating, everything else is just great!
The staff were great and quick to help me find what I was looking for. Its through the customers eyes that a business really shows what theyre all about. As I walked around I overheard the salespeople helping customers. They were engaged in sharing their knowledge and perspective on publications customers inquired on. You didnt feel the aggressive used-car salesman pitch at all. Kudos to the entire team.Plus I was super happy to find a Loki bobble-head!
I love Barnes and Noble. My boyfriend took me out and I found a great book. We came by in the early evening and it was super quiet and Timothy thank you for your genuine kind customer service and koweldge of book placment. Great place for a date! I will be back. And to the girl working next him... Fantastic hair!

2022-06-30Very big book store, friendly and helpful staffs. They kindly helped me find what I was looking for. They have a large selection of puzzles and I liked their stationary collection as well. They have Moleskine notebooks, Cavallini vintage puzzles.

2021-11-07It is a very big store and the main parking for it is on the back side. You can enter or exit from either side, they have cash register on either side also. A very active Cafe area d right in the middle. The isle are very well spaced out especially in the kids area which had a small sitting space also. They have very decent sized blue ray collection also with tones of puzzle, games, CDs, magazines and typical assortments of books arranged by categories. A few spots in there to sit besides the cafe can be seen along the store.

2022-04-26In general I like Barnes & Noble, however, the puzzle purchase really changed my view. I got a 1000 puzzle from the store, spend 20+ hours finally put them together. Unfortunately I found one piece is missing. That was so disappointed. I went to store to ask for advice on situation like this. The manger told me bring the puzzle back and then refund as any other products. She was very corporate and no sympathy. I was like, it’s a PUZZLE, it’s not book or CD, you actually put effort and time on it to complete. She didn’t even say I am sorry that happened. I don’t even wanna the refund, please at least have a better attitude to make me feel better instead of telling me that I cannot refund you unless you bring the product back. I don’t know if she did puzzle before, any person who did a puzzle knows how frustrating missing one piece is.

2021-08-29I walked in to B&N today and it felt like I stepped back in time to 2008. I mean that in the best way possible! The fact that they’re still doing their thing is so heartening, and the experience is just as I remember it. Browse books, grab a coffee, and now, as a parent, peruse an incredible selection of toys and kids books.

2021-10-27My favorite bookstore in the entire Bay area! With B&N traditional layout, this store offers spacious, clean and family/student friendly environment with its diverse selection of books, magazines, audios and even toys. It is staffed by courteous, helpful staff comparable to more high end establishments. In the cyberspace era dominated by impersonal online book behemoths, its freshing to able to browse and feel (and smell) new books instead of digitally flipping through endless listing online. The excellent in-store cafe and seatings round out a perfect ambiance for reading and remote working. Highly recommend!

2022-02-24Its nice to see some Barns and Nobles are still operating like old days. As much as I enjoy the digitization of the world, but feeling and touching the books and magazines over a cup of coffee in a bookstore is something irreplaceable by technology. I will support this and other locations until they are in business. I hope the leadership finally wakes up and does something to their business model to restore the remaining locations and jobs. This visit was consistent with my last visit experience.

2022-03-28This is a great barnes and noble location. The staff is very friendly and they have a huge selection. The cafe is nice too and there’s a lot of tables to sit at. I only wish the horror section was bigger!
