I walk here often with my kids because its convenient. Unfortunately its often dirty and doesnt always feel very safe. It would be nice to see the playground equipment receive some maintenance.
Great local park, only a few mostly friendly homeless they have never bothered anyone on the several hundred times I have been there. From tennis to a pick-nic and playground area this little park has what you want only area not used is a bociball area needs a club to adopt it very overgrown I used court there
Park is pretty mellow. Nice area a lot of older people visit to walk and meet. Usually no problems. They also have some of the cleanest bathrooms and the ones on Empire are smaller than the other bathrooms on the opposite side of the park.
Park is nice like any other places. However there are lot of homeless people around the park. They sometimes are aggressive and abusing the visitors of the park.

Plenty of parking with some shade. Due to the area in the vicinity of homeless, some trash can be seen littered across the lawn. Still a fairly nice and good sized park.

Its my childhood park that I have been going consistently. Its a park that has been neglected as the city of San Jose has had less funding towards maintaining the park. The park is full of local residents running, walking, and playing tennis. Its a great park to get your workout on, but not for the beauty as its not a pretty park.
The neighborhood is changing, very friendly to walk, jog or run.
Really nice local, neighborhood park that is larger than most. It has a community checkout area for sports equipment. Wall areas for ball practice and plenty of lawn for soccer or play. There is tennis courts, naseball diamonds and basketball courts and volleyball areas. A par course is available and the sidewalk that simply wraps the park is good for a walk. Plenty of trees as well as sun.

Great neighborhood park in the NorthSide of San Jose. This area used to be the hub of the Italian community. Great people from the surrounding neighborhood. A bit of a homeless problem but that normal for 2021.
The park is actually quite good, its the location and people who tend to disuse it. The play structures are great but not clean. The restroom is also not clean. The grass area is quite good. We had come here for the San Jose chalk festival. My nearly seven year old loved it. There are tennis courts which are always being used, which is nice to see. There is a walking trail also around the park. Its not as big as some other parks, you can see the whole park from one point. In September 2017 a new play structure was being added, that should make things better.

Amenities in this park - directly from the city website: The park boasts a community center, BBQ area, childrens playground, handball courts, bocce ball, basketball, night tennis and lighted softball field. The jewel of park is its mosaic fountain decorated with ceramic tiles. The fountain dates back to 1922 and is the oldest Solon & Schemmel structure in existence.
Parts of the park are nice: tennis courts, playground, basketball courts. The large grassy areas and picnic benches by the tennis courts are not very clean
I love this park the playground has a fence all the way around it to the kids can play and I dont have to worry about him getting out or running away
Tennis courts are very busy on the weekends in the mornings, but open up after 12pm. The courts are in really good shape, they were renovated a few years ago with no cracks. Out of the 8 courts, 2 have lights & they stay on until 10pm.
This park has a good size playground with jungle gyms for older and younger kids. Theres a set of tennis courts. Lots of grass space. A bathroom is onsite. There is free parking around the perimeter of the park.

Really rundown playground but still very well planned with shade, safety and variety in mind. I did not once feel unsafe due to other people with my baby in the afternoon on a weekday. Ice cream truck, sports spaces, after school program, good amount of seating. Parking was cramped but still accessible. Id come back here for sure to let me little guy play.
Minimalistic park with onsite parking, seating, and bathrooms. Some issues with garbage (example, in the parks historic fountain). During the summer this park hosts neighborhood events with food and music on Saturdays. Dog friendly.
The barbers here are young and very artistic.
Lowriders and Motorcycles converge on the park today, and I felt like I was the luckest person in San Jose, CA. I love classical cars, and I love oldies! They were playing oldies and I felt right at home.😊

Its a nice place to relax and good place to take your kids to play on the play ground plus Backesto park also has two hand ball courts.

This park is ok has some unsavory characters wondering it at times but overall ok....Has a playground for kids (which has some nice shade from the surrounding trees), has baseball, basketball, and tennis courts too. Beware of foul balls if your kids are playing on the playground while someone is playing baseball or softball though as the playground is just past first base on the right.
Its neighborhood ... people playing tennis, handball and there is a softball diamond ... one of the best urban parks in the Soutbay ... great donut across the street as well as a very authentic delicatessen within walking distance ... great time for working folks to get together.
For the avid and active residents who play tennis, hand ball, basket ball, soft ball or Frisbee this is the place to be if your downtown. Theres a play ground for younger children, bathrooms and plenty of lawn for picnics and other functions.
Strange neighborhood this park is located. I wouldnt feel comfortable walking at night. We have kickball games here on Tuesdays. When the sun sets, there are tons of mosquitoes, so bring your repellant! Lots of parking around the park.

I grew up in that park, San Jose high, lived on 17th & Taylor back in the 70s thru-2000s. Real cool park, people are mixed ethnic Residents low crime.🤫😋
The Backesto Park, is absolutely beautiful, even in winter. Initially, the day was overcast when I arrived, but after a while, the sun came out and made it very ideal to browse among st the flowers. I really like all the names, which are sometimes silly, sometimes cute, and always very positive.

Park for the public with basketball courts handball tennis and opened field has 4 set of street lights near the tennis courts for night players giving light near the grass as well.
Nice size and City of San José emptied the garbage cans, even on Fourth of July holiday. Tennis courts were well maintained and well used. Don Johnsons memory is marked on each entrance. Path, trees, and grass well cared for if you have elderly, ADA, or children. Locally owned stores on the corner if you need something like ice on a hot day. Serviced by many bus lines, shortest walk is VTA #61.

Like most parks in San Jose it’s filled with homeless people and loiterers. Besides that, it’s nice park where you can run or play with your kids for a bit.
I love taking my daughter to play there.
Rec room & staff are good with kids multiple playin field:Handball,basketball,baseball,Tennis& racquetball. Along woth grass and 🌳 for shade oh puts to bbq. They also have a huge neighborhood yard sale.
Its okay but just dont use the bathrooms cuz they are very disgusting that parkt could be really nice if they cleaned it up a little more.
Very dirty...the city is very neglectful on keeping it clean and updated. Many people from the community bring their children but the city ignores this fact.

Its a cool park. It has basketball courts. A playground. Tennis courts. Good parking all around the park. Barbecue grills. Public bathrooms. Baseball court. A big field. Good to jog around. Safe.
Tennis courts are poorly maintained. Burned out lights are not replaced, despite repeated requests from players. The whole lighting system for the courts are now totally out. The city has already been informed, but no corrective action has been taken.
My efforts! My energy! My Drive in my exercise makes my experience at this park 5stars. Not the view not the benches not the park. Sometimes when the place isnt a five star place dont let it stop you from having yourself a 5star experience!
Great park with lots of community activities and family / clubside sports teams practicing. While there are some unhoused folks who stay at the park, I have not had a bad experience to date.
Its a nice park in the neighbourhood. It also has number of tennis courts which are free for use on a first come first served basis. Mostly, they are available.
This is a great park to play soccer, baseball, tennis and volleyball in. It also has a playground for children. There is parking all around the park and on most days its easy to find a spot.
Was invited to a birthday party here. Sad to say the park is full of transients and shady characters. The bathrooms are disgusting and the parking on the street is full.

I like this park cause its close to our house and theres lots of mini-stores around.Our church is right across the street so thats very convenient if I decide to go visit the church.

Backesto Park has an active community of people playing sports (football, tennis, sometimes handball) and often has after school exercise programs passing through. There are numerous picnic tables for an outdoor luncheon and a playground for children.

Golden Glove Gym is right across the street great fitness spot and backesto is an excellent place to run and take your family!

This park is full of those stinging caterpillars theyre falling from the tree all over the children all over the dolts it was so uncomfortable everybody evacuated quick the caterpillars was still stuck to the clothing and in the car what a disaster they need to spray that place not returning

Here it was not too Pleasant you couldnt take your dog walking around comfortably you always had to look around to see how many dogs were at the park and keep my girl out of Harms Way

2022-02-11Huge park area with various places to park and explore. They also have walk in camping! Not crazy about porta potties, but other than that, there are lots of picnic areas, both covered and open. Two lane road throughout; quite a few cars going much too fast.

2022-05-02Fun market event with different food vendors. Had pupusas, horchata, and some great barbequed pork belly. Fun experience and some nice restaurants within walking distance. Also close to a few different bus stops.

2019-09-23Heres a quiet neighborhood park with tennis, basketball, racket ball and volleyball courts. A baseball field, picnic tables and plenty of grassy areas too. I went here for the annual chalk art festival to see the creations, some from school age artists and some well done sidewalk drawings.
