I just wanted to notify you guys of a very disappointing and disgusting treatment we received from Darlene at the Avis key pick up counter. The representative (super sweet lady) that assisted us prior to the key pick up advised us to go to the right and pick up the keys. When we arrived we were checking the slot with a key in it to see if it matched our paperwork. Darlene came to us very aggressive and asked us what we were doing and that that wasn’t for us. I told her that we were told to go to the right side and pick up our keys so we were just checking if that was it. She said no that’s not what happened that is not what we tell people. You are suppose to come in and we get you the keys. Being it is our first time booking with avis we felt very disrespected on her tone and approach. She could’ve easily told us oh no we can help you in here to get the keys instead of insinuating we were lying because of misinformation. I’ve worked in management and I have never had anyone one of my employees ever feel treat someone the way she did. We do not plan on booking with you guys again.
Horrible experiences:1. irrespecutful front desk agent, talking to me while looking at others. Also provided me incorrect information about insurance coverage, totally unhelpful and not knowledgeable. It was a biz rental, and my companys contract includes damage waiver while I was told not even the contract has that mentioned in clear prints.2. they provided a car with pre-existing scratches, I thought I could report it when checking out the car at an inspection booth but it doesnt even exist. The parking lot directly connects to the freeway...3. Zero customer service, their system (automatically)sent a follow up email but after I tried to write a complaint to the managers email, there has never been a response. If I could give a 0 star rating, I will. This is by far the worst Avis site I ever saw.
If I could leave no stars I would. Darlene with Avis.Took forever. 45 minutes with previous guest. Gave attitude when asked why she asked for a credit card on a prepaid vehicle. Just said that’s what we need. Did not communicate fees or the amount. Laughed when card being ran through didn’t work. No information on deposit hold or amount. Unwilling to get management when another card was presented under second driver. No instruction or direction just kept talking in circles. Then said for us to call reservations but didn’t have number. Gave us paper two seconds later and made us move to the side. Gave us a general 800 number for reservations that didn’t help, they dropped our call three times and wanted to charge $300 for a previously prepaid vehicle. Made us lose price paid. And spent more than an hour waiting. Overheard her talking to other guests and making a point to make other guests feel overly helped. Awful check in.
This is in need of some serious updating for speed. Took 20 min for preferred. People on the phones. Need an upgrade.Update: still here. Still no car. Waiting for just the car 20 minutes and over 40 for the whole bad experience.Update 2: car that came up reeked like weed. Waiting again. Over an hour ... For preferred...
My wife flew into Santa Ana and had prepaid around $235 for an Avis rental online. After returning the vehicle Avis charged our account about $255 a second time. After an hour on the phone with billing they claim that an alteration was made to the order and only credited her $203. After asking what changes were made they couldn’t say but they refuse to refund the full amount of the 2nd charge. I will be canceling my corporate account over these shady practices.
If you are on a late flight you are can easily be out of luck if are delayed and dont get to the rental counter by 11 and will have to find other transportation. Delayed by lost bag. When arrived at the distraught about a lost Hockey bag that means my daughter will miss the first game of the hockey tournament, the Avis counter agent the slammed the door in my face locked it and said they were closed and could not help us. Preferred for years, but it as too much too take a minute to hand us our keys. They turned out lights and sat in the dark rather than help us. Customer Service line then provided absolutely no accomodation and will charge full price no matter what. Refused to refund reservation so we could rent from elsewhere and avoid another $60 trip back to the airport from the hotel. They close at 11 and if you are late, you will pay for it ad every additional expense.
The Avis guy I worked with was super helpful for my very stressful, nightmare situation. I lost my wallet in transit, either on the plane or at the airport, had no idea where at the time. Later on, I got a phone call from AA that the cleaning crew found it a few rows up from where I was sitting on the plane. However, Avis helped alleviate some of my nightmare, as my friend was able to add her name to my rental to pick up and drive the car, since I cant drive without a license. I really appreciate Avis allowing this. Once I got my wallet back from AA, I was then able to drive too. Thank you Avis for helping me out! Good customer service for a stressful situation! My only complaint was that a Preferred Avis customer, I thought it would be expedited pick up, but there was still a line and wait for all Preferred customers. Maybe just expedite the Preferred line a bit more.
Poorly marked for after hours car return. Signs had conflicting messages. You obviously cant park the return in the lane of traffic but there are signs saying not to park in spaces... Received the car at LAX customer service was excellent but the glass was disgusting. I had to Windex the glass just to drive. Clean the inside of the glass Avis!!
Nhi (at SNA location) is the best customer service rep! When we arrived, Avis desk was closed so we went to the Budget desk. We were helped by Nhi and she got us a car with a little more muscle than a standard because she didnt want us waiting too long. When we returned the car, the return agent charged us a fuel surcharge because the needle on the gauge didnt point to F. We had a receipt for the fill up prior to returning the car and so had to go up to the desk. We found Nhi at the Avis desk this time and she took out receipt and removed the surcharge and its related taxes off our bill. Nhi is awesome!
When I asked to secure a car with XM capability (my pre-selected car didnt have it), your local Rep at SNA assigned me an upgraded SUV........but never told me it would be at an outrageous $111.83 additional charge (and I wasnt offered the chance to decline). Worse, Avis was unable to activate the XM service after the three calls I made to your XM activation service. I was also dissatisified with Customer Services offer to discount the additional charge by 30%. Finally,I noticed on the invoice my pickup time was shown on the receipt as 446PST on MON 1/24.....which was impossible since I arrived after 600PM local time. The result was that I got nicked for 1 hour late charge; a silly $24.19 on a full daily rate of $32.25.
Next time, Hertz.Poor communication and coordination at SNA. Upon arrival, I was messaged to proceed to the Avis counter. No employees were at the Avis counter, but a note said to go to the Budget counter. After a 30 min wait at the Budget counter, I was told that I was Avis preferred, and had to proceed to the Avis counter at the Avis car lot. That was another 20 minute wait, only to find that Avis had switched my car request to a vehicle with much less luggage capacity. Just an awful experience.
Avis Rental has been my preferred place for renting autos…John Wayne Airport has been my pickup location for years…and I highly recommend them.Their facilities are well stocked,,cars clean and counter service unmatchable.Returning rentals are even easier with onsite express return with receipt…making my Experience Totally Pleasant with Complete Satisfaction.Avis at John Wayne Airport remains my Top Choice for Business and Personal Rentals.
The rental agent misled us on the cost of the rental, charged us for additional insurance coverage and loss damage waiver that we never authorized and which we specifically declined, and the put us in a car that was marked disposal and rattled so badly we were barely able to talk. Overall our experience was very negative
The car pickup is badly organized at this airport. No useful signage from the terminal to the pickup station. No bus required, but still hard to find in the basement of the parking garage.Even Avis Preferred customers have to wait in the basement line, a long and slow moving line, because the keys are handed out by hand, by insufficient staffing. The waiting line is kind of dangerous, with a narrow driving lane right across the entry door. Family unfriendly: there are signs limiting the waiting party to two people.
1 star because I can not leave a negative star. Last car I rented it smelled like a farm animal. The car prior was filled with gas when returned but they charged me for gas regardless. The car that smelled like the farm had its check engine light come on and the car started shaking if I went over 45 miles an hour. It was scary driving it back to the rental location. What happened to AVIS?!??!?!?!?!?!
June 2022- 20-30 minute wait in line even with president club status. I had selected a car on the app and everything was on the system. Frustrating to still wait in line.Chairman’s club members had a separate line they could walk right up and get their keys.Staff were all friendly and car was clean.
Reservation process is smooth and easy. The staff at the airport pickup location were courteous and made sure I was properly taken care of, and most importantly, happy with my pickup process and car. To my surprise, when I mentioned about an upgrade offer the Avis website offered me to add to my reservation for small business, the staff member happily looked to see what was available and upgraded me to a Mustang GT 5.0. And then as usual, drop off process was easy, quick, and again I was greeted with friendly, happy, helpful staff. Needless to say, I really enjoyed my rental car and the people at Avis / John Wayne Airport.
I specifically told the agent to decline all the options but he left them on the contract. It was definitely my fault for trusting the agent to do the right thing by not double checking what I signed. I wouldnt be using Avis again due to this unpleasant experience.*Update: Within a few days of the above review, Avis proactively reached out to me by email and issued a refund of the extra charges. I am very impressed with Avis response. I will use them again and adjusted my review from 1 Star to 4 Stars.
It was a busy day for yall (avis) and I got to front of line quickly. Was given opportunity to change (upgrade) in order to not have to wait for my reserved car. The gentleman that helped us set us up quickly and we were on our way. Overall very satisfied with quality of service and personnel were top rate in our experience. Car was awesome (actually turned out to be Tacoma 4x4 club cab). Sweet!
I normally use other car rental companies, Alamo or National, and I will probably be going back to them. The Rental that I got was a nice vehicle but it was filthy dirty inside and out. When I was assigned the car it was located at the other end of the parking garage, and when I got to the vehicle it was so close to the next car that I had to walk all the way back to the office to get assistance. When I got back to the office I was made to wait for the person who assigned me the car to be available, His name was Mo, and when I finally got up to the counter after 15 minutes, I told him the situation and that I would like another car assigned he looked around for 15 more minutes, then told me there were no other vehicles for him to replace it with , Then asked another employee to walk back to the vehicle and get it out for me. Which he did and I then had him drive me back to the office so that he did not have to walk all the way back. The vehicle was a good ride but with the trouble that I had I dont know that Avis will be my choice in the future. There are many things that I can look past such as an employee having a bad day, but there is no excuse for renting a Dirty vehicle especially a Luxury SUV, and then to waste my time which is too valuable to be wasted. I mentioned the condition of the vehicle both when I picked it up and dropped it off and the employees had the same reaction, Oh well, Sorry. and that is it. I think it will take a lot for me to consider Avis as a good quality rental car company from here on out.
Car rented was Buick Enclave, the sunroof was leaking water when it rains and the viper does not wipe the rains properly and pose danger to my family. Car was not well maintained and stains on the mat too. I had to cancel the trip and bring the car back the next day. Explained to Avis customer service but no refund. Ruined our family Christmas holiday.
The whole process was quick and simple, except the returning area at the airport was not so efficient from my own view. Direction to the returning zone for the other companies were great but did not noticed many Avis signs much as others, especially Avis is bit away from other companies within same building. But really appreciated the service and the vehicle condition.
I would have gave a 10/10 but my tire pressure was danger low according to the warning dash. So I had to take care of that. Besides that the car i asked for what the one I got and it was clean inside. Ill still give it a 5/5 just because it was pretty simple and easy for someone who has never rented a vehicle before.
The car I rented smelled of smoke and was dirty on the inside. The on board computer had a shortage so it turned off every 10 minutes or so to restart. I thought maybe it was my phone so when I tried to listen to the radio it did the same thing.Dropped off the car early in the morning and thought everything was okay. When I got home and read the receipt, I was charged for not returningal it on a full tank of gas when I filled it up the night before. I tried calling customer service, bit they were no help and the airport line is always busy. Will not be renting from them in the future.
Ramon is an extraordinary employee. He provided exceptional customer service, assisted with new rental, extremely knowledgeable of surrounding area and was able to handle our transaction with ease in a timely manor. Very attentive and exemplary Avis brand representative.
The agent was very pushy, and it was very evident that his concern was not our satisfaction, but rather his sale. The vehicle was in poor condition. I noticed rear tire had a big gash upon arrival to my hotel. I called the office with no answer. I didnt drive the vehicle much, as my conference was close to my hotel. I advised the agent upon my return, and he did not care, nor did he make reference of it. Thats unfortunate, as the tire is clearly a safety concern for the next customer. Upon return, the agent also harassed me about a chipped windshield, only to find that that windshield issue was already noted in their system. I was not made to feel appreciated, and I will not rent from Avis again.
When I made the reservation, I told the office at this airport what flight and airline Id be arriving on. But, when I arrived, the reservation had been canceled, but not the hold on my card on file. So, I had to use another credit card, and both had nearly $800 on hold for the duration of the rental. And, the gas tank was 7/8 full, not 8/8 full, when I picked it up. Then, to add insult to injury, I returned the car with the gas tank full, but you chiseled me my out of a few bucks by claiming that it was not completely full. Very sleazy all around.
Car was not close to what I had reserved. I waited about 20 mins while Avis team searched for a car, and I was not late in arriving. Instead of a hardtop mustang, I ended up with a camaro convertible, but the car designs are so poor that I was going to end up in an accident. I asked to downgrade, but the discount was a paltry $50, so I stuck with the camaro. I dont see that going thru avis as a Preferred customer really benefited me at all. I will probably switch back to Hertz because at least there is some reliable customer service.
We got there on time but there was a long line. When we got to the customer service they didn’t have the car I rented. Wanted to give me a mustang. I told Them either truck or SUV. They agreed to a SUV and because of the inconvenience they said I can Bring back the car with no gas. When I brought Back the car they charged me for gas and the Iinsurance I never Agreed to. Never again will I use Avis!
Got the 4-day deal from Costco (Nov 08-11 2021) This location added all kinds of extra options without consent TWICE and tried to charge me extra while signing for a car. When they say you got a special deal and dont have to top off the fuel, or mention Base coverage look closely. When returning the car, a Return agent charged $55 extra without being able to tell me why. I kicked it back and the second bill was still $15 higher than the Costco price. Seems like it is their standard practice to throw extra charges here and there without informing the customer. Waited 10 mins for an explanation at their office and they claimed the fuel tank wasnt full. I was quite upset at this point cause i just topped it off before returning and fuel gauge is right at the F mark.Their excuse at that point was because I didnt show them the fuel receipt. Pulled up the credit card gas charge on my phone and the fee was dropped. If you really have to get a car from this place which I do not recommend, pay very close attention. This place has the most shady business practice I have seen.
My flight was delayed due to bad weather in Dallas. When I called Avis to let them know I would be picking up the car late, I was informed that the car would not be held for me and I would have to rebook. One of the customer service reps (Rita?) even hung up on me. The long and short of it is that I was forced to pay an extra $332 to book the exact same car for a day less than the original booking, which is obviously ridiculous. The car itself was great, but Avis hold policy and customer service is absolutely terrible.
When I arrived at Avis to pick up my car that I had already paid for beforehand, the customer service gentleman was desperately pushing other fees onto me such as toll pass and insurance, even after I said no many times. He promised me that I would pay less in tolls if I added on their toll pass even though I told him that I am not leaving Santa Ana. But he said I would hit tolls. So then I added it on. He also told me that I would have to fill my tank (which is pretty standard unless I add their gas service). After a tense back and forth of him trying to force insurance onto me, he got noticeably angry. As I was signing the forms, he said “you do not have to fill the tank when you return the car”. I repeated what he said back to me and he said “correct”. I then called a friend who told me that I was not going to run into any tolls during my stay and that I DID HAVE to fill the tank before returning. I turned around to get the tolls fee off, but the line had stretched so I accepted my loss. Luckily, when I went to the lower garage, there was an AVIS station and a very kind woman took the fee off for me and assured me that I do have to fill the tank. I believe the first representative intentionally tried to screw me over because I wouldn’t allow him to tack all the fees on me. The day before returning the car, I filled my gas tank completely. Then early morning, on my way to the airport that was only 15 minutes away, I filled it completely one more time. Three days later I was charged with the gas fee and I called customer service and the kind lady was able to credit me right back. DO NOT rent cars from this company. They just want to scheme their way into your pocketbook.
Sorry i dont usually write bad reviews but it appears that someone spilled febreze or some sort of cleaning chemical in the car. The back seat was wet so my son had to sit on a sweatshirt that ended up smelling like the chemicals. Car had worn out floor mats and still had someone elses trash in the back seat. Not a good showing AVIS
Worst rental experience in my life.. we have a large group of a baby and a toddler and parents and grandparent with tons of luggages. They didn’t have the reserved van ready or available for us. They made us wait for more than 30mins and made me feel like I need to appreciate their help to get me a car. Jesus.. horrible time with infant and toddler and seniors standing in garage and waited forever. Worst ever
When I arrived for my reservation, there was only 1 agent at the desk and I waited an unacceptable amount of time to get my car assigned. I was 3rd in line but was easily on the line for 45 minutes. I was then told that there were no cars available on site and had to wait again for the car to be delivered. By the time the car was delivered, I was extremely agitated and my kids were hungry and just wanted to leave. Because of that, I did not do my usual car inspection and did not detect that there was damage to the car until I returned it. I happened to have a video that showed the damage was there on the day of pickup, but the agent at the return said that I needed a video from before I left the garage. Very disappointed with this service as anyone would be.
Preferred member booked an SUV 2 months ago. I showed up and they tried to give me a minivan for the same price. All SUVs gone they say Idiots. This franchise should lose its franchise license. Thx Enterprise for taking care of me and getting me my SUVLove the reply!! What are you going to do at this point ? You are a useless franchisee .. stay away use Hertz or Enterprise JMO
The car received should have been removed from service because cleaning to remove the smoke smell had not worked. The toll service at $11.99 a day for a transponder costs not more than that to buy is a money grab. And, I filled up the gas tank 2 blocks from the LAX return depot and I was still charged for 1/2 gallon. At $9.99 a gallon (vs. the $4.31 I paid), it is a small amount, but a large insult.
I waited for over 1 hour to get my car even though I am a Preferred Member and had a reservation more than 2 months in advance. As a Preferred Member with an advance reservation I expect a car to be held and immediately available for me. In addition, the car that was eventually provided was empty of fuel, which I discovered after leaving the facility when the fuel warning light came on. This treatment is entirely unsatisfactory.
I had a reservation for a vehicle prior to arrival. Once I arrived there was only one person at the desk and a line. I could hear the person on the phone a couple times explaining that she was the only person up front. I am not overexaggerating when I tell you that the wait in line took longer than my flight to SNA. When I returned the vehicle, the signage was horrible. Just throw the car into any space because finding the return area is impossible. Horrible especially when you have a flight to catch. When approaching someone that worked there and telling them the situation, it was very unpleasant for me to tell them about the difficulty, only to have them point out that the return area is just right there. He asked me if gas was filled, I told him, no but i would be fine paying whatever the price of gas was, $5 or whatever . He then laughed at me and said uhhh, no, its $9 haha.I just want this horrible encounter over with. Please just take my keys so I can catch a plane far away from this ish-show you call a rental companyFOLLOW UP: After submitting this review, obviously displaying my first and last name into Yelp and I am given homework to contact someone via email and provide them with confirmation numbers, etc. So frustrating that I need to do more leg work in order to resolve this.
Terrible Service. I was charged for insurance for the three days that I didnt know about until the day of the car return. The price on my contract was not the same as the return charge. My original signed contract did not have my initial on it. I talked to the guy at the window and he says my contract didnt have the initial on it. Therefore the manager will get hold of me as I have to get to my plane on time. I did not receive any call back. I went with a big name brand company so I didnt have to deal with the hassle but it seems they lack of customer service and ethic.
Avis at John Wayne airport did not provide me a quick and easy experience. Before booking I called to make sure they had Chrysler Pacificas for rent and they told me yes they are available. I booked my vehicle and when the day came to pick up my rental car, I was provided a Dodge Grand Caravan. I was upset because I had a lot of luggage and wanted to fold down seats that the Pacifica had and the grand caravan didn’t. I accepted the van because I was tired of traveling all day and wanted to get some rest. I loaded my luggage in the van, then drove the van out of the parking spot, then the oil light came on. I walked back to the counter and stated that the oil light is on and they were going to place me in another van, however there was no other van available.I then asked if they can provide me a Tacoma since they had about 8-10 lined up. They were able to put me in one of the Tacomas. I unloaded my luggage and loaded it in the bed of the truck, hopped in the truck and it smelt cigarette smoke. I strongly dislike cigarette smoke and I got a headache from it. I was over it and just wanted to get out of there. I drove up the the counter to make sure they have reported smoke damage so I don’t get charged for it and they placed me in another truck. So here I am loading and unloading my luggage by myself. Over all experience was not good. The front desk was rude and was not apologetic for the multiple issues. They did not want to help me. I was waiting for my last print out receipt and the lady went MIA. There was another lady there and I asked if she can print me out one and she was resentful asking me where her coworker went and that I had to wait for her to print out my receipt. She ended up printing it out. Returning was easy and the staff that accepts the vehicles were very friendly. It’s the front desk people who are rude. I would spend the extra money next time and rent from Hertz. John Wayne Avis does not take care of their fleet and does not care about quality customer service.
We had reserved a car online for $469 with a special where we did not know what car we would receive. When we arrived to get the car the agent worded things as though we had an option of which car we could get not that we were upgrading. Next thing we know we left and saw the receipt for $859 which was $400 over what we thought we were paying and then our actual bank account was charged for $1000+. We will never be using this company again.
Looking at our emailed receipt after getting ready to board a/c, we noticed that we were charged $9.99 for fuel charge for about 1 gal. on fuel. We had just filled the car up to full couple miles outside of airport. This extra unjustified fuel charge added more fees and taxes to our final costs. For the last 20 yrs+ renting cars with Avis and other companies, they were honest and transparent by giving us a printed receipt while turning in the car so that we could easily and in a timely way verify accuracy of the charges. This is a very poor way to practice customer service in a service industry! I work in the airline industry and will share this unethical practice with several thousands fellow employees so that they can avoid this company!
AVIS Staff was helpful. However, the car was less than stellar. It wreaked of cigarette smoke. The car stalled multiple times and the air conditioner did not work properly. The car idled very hard and even died twice sitting at a red light. This vehicle was not worth the close to $500 I paid. The staff was lovely. The vehicle was awful.
As an Avis Preferred member I expected a smooth check in- check out process with a bill I understand. When I checked in, I had to go back to the counter four (4) times before the staff could find a vehicle that WORKED properly and was in the place it was supposed to be. Checking out the person was very nice sent me an email bill with 40 dollars extra that I have no idea what its for. I will not be using AVIS again. It was a horrible experience. OH! And the car needed washer fluid and kept alerting every time we drove it!
We appreciated that we were able to drop off our car at an Avis location close to our home after a long road trip across the country. We got in a day early so I called an Avis close to our home to see if we could return it there rather than the airport. That flexibility will keep me using Avis for our rental needs. Thank you!
Car broke down on our way to Legoland. With transmission issues. To avoid waiting an hour with 3 kids for Uber a tow truck, we managed to drive it to the nearest Avis. Just to arrive and wait in another LONG line for a new vehicle. This service SUCKS and their cars aren’t MAINTAINED WELL. Needs to be better preparation for rental car breakdowns. Instead of just an Uber. I am highly dissatisfied
I had rented a car from Enterprise a few weeks earlier at John Wayne Airport (SNA), the same location as this Avis was in, thinking the experience would be similar. However when I showed up to the rental office there was a 35 minute line just to find out the premium/luxury car I had pre-paid for and reserved wasnt available. I was given a huge SUV instead which was super cumbersome and nothing at all like what I was expecting to drive away with. In sharp contrast when I rented from Enterprise a few weeks earlier the car I had reserved (which I didnt even have to pre-pay for) was waiting for me and I was in & out of their office in under 5 minutes. As you can imagine I will be returning to Enterprise from here on out.
After a long, stressful day of traveling, I was pleased to finally reach the Budget rental car counter in SNA and very quickly get the key to our car so we could be on our way. After leaving the airport I realized that I left my backpack in the parking space where I loaded our luggage into the rental. After a minute of nearly having a heart attack looking for the Budget location number, I received a call from Phillip at the Budget location saying he had my bag. The relief was overwhelming and am so appreciative that he grabbed it for me. Inside was everything I needed for work while here in CA including a professional camera setup, Macbook Pro, wallet and iPad. If he was working for one of my companies, I would have him teaching teams by example. I cant thank you enough Phillip!
I am preferred. My rental was not ready and I had to wait inline to have the attendant look up my reservation and get me my kays. This was done simple because I was drooping my car off at another locations .They tryer to charge my rental to a card that was closed even thought I handed the attended my credit card to be used.for my previous rental attempt, I was three minutes late to pick up my car and I found the agency closed and locked. I had been renting form that office for 35 years and they had my reservation in hand. They were so anxious to get home they could not hold of 5 minutes.I feel like shredding my Avis First Card
I originally had a rental reservation with Hertz. When I arrived to pick up my car, I was told that they had just amended their rental policy to where anyone using a debit card to rent, would be charged a $500 deposit on top of the rental car fee. This was something I did not know and had not budgeted for. Hertz tried to send me down to Alamo stating that Alamo did not charge a deposit at all (which didnt sound right). Anyhow as my partner and I began walking down toward Alamo, we were stopped by a cheerful Avis employee named Nhi. Nhi told us that Alamo would charge the same deposit as Hertz and that Avis has yet to adopt the change so my deposit with them, would be just $200. Nhi went in to run the numbers on renting wiith Avis, while I called Alamo to double check. It turns out Nhi was 100% correct. She not only stopped us from further frustration with going back and forth with another rental company and trying to find another on the spot rental during a the Memorial Day weekend rush. Nhi handled us with kindness, she was expedient and knowledgeable about her own companys policies as well as others. Nhi got us a very nice luxury SUV rental for a week, which we thoroughly enjoyed at a price that was comparible with what we had reserved with Hertz, with insurance included. I have always gone with Hertz, usually due to my AAA discount. After our experience with Nhi, Avi Car Rental has found new loyal customers. Thank you Nhi and Thank you Avis!
****Edit for follow-up****Avis has provided me a partial refund of fees and reached out with an apology. I appreciate their efforts.Should you find yourself having to change drop-off locations or in an emergency, I advise you ask the agents questions at pick up or drop off to ensure youre aware of what fees may incur and how you can request a reduction in a medical emergency.*******************************I had to rent a one-way home because my elderly mother became ill and could not fly. 6 hours into the trip she collapsed and I had to take her to a hospital. I had to return the car nearest and was charged a $300 one-way fee for returning it in Oakland instead of the original destination of Seattle without being told the extra fee that would be assessed. I paid for digital check in and was still forced to go from the unattended rental counter to a check-in elsewhere in the parking garage and the agent made me go through all the same steps I had done online. Drop off was simple, but the receiving agent did not say anything about the extra fees for dropping it off at a location other than the original booked one.
I left my phone in the car. I realized it 5 minutes after walking away. I turned back but they had taken the car. No big deal I thought. I asked the return attendant for help. He directed me back to the office. There was probably 100 people waiting for cars. It was complete chaos. I was able to get one of the attendants attention and they called to the offairport lot and located my phone. They were going to have someone bring it back. So far a great story. But this is where it breaks down. It didnt come back in 15 minutes, so I asked again and they assured me it was on the way. About 30 minutes later the car I had turned in came back but the attendant driving that car didnt have my phone. Why it took 30 minutes to bring back a car that was clean and full of gas when I dropped it off I dont understand. they could have immediately rented it. I drove it to the hotel and back to the airport. That was the extend of its use. So I asked again and they attendant at the counter stated that Girado had it and would be bringing it back. At 45 minutes still no phone they dont know where Girardo is. My wife returns from the terminal at that point with our bags since it is obvious we are not making our flight. She is tracking my phone and has seen it leave and return to the airport several times. The attendant who was helping me at the counter at that point offers to have it mailed to me. I turn that offer down because I dont think the staff at this location are competent enough to pull that off. So I took it upon myself to start asking every attendant who brought a car back to the lot if they were Girardo and if they had my phone. i got lucky and four attendants in I found Girado and he had my phone. Seemed like a nice guy. They didnt tell him what to do with the phone or that I was waiting he seemed genuinely surprised that I asked. That is assuming the best case scenario. I got my phone back. But I am never going to rent from Avis again.
The customer service representative was unfriendly and appeared to be extremely busy and over worked. I asked for something I could fit my tools into and she explained that it was too late because she had already made the car reservation. Upon getting the car I was issued I placed my things in and noticed an overpowering smell of perfume or cologne covering up the scent of cigarette smoke. It states perfectly clear on the car that it is smoke free. This was not the case. It was my fault for not immediately turning the car back in an requesting another but after what I just went through and being that I had to get to my meeting I took the smokers car off the lot. As long as the windows were cracked it wasnt too terrible, however, all five days I had the car I dreaded driving it, hoped I wouldnt smell like it and thought of returning it. Not a good experience....
DO.NOT.TRUST.AVIS! The lady at the front desk blatantly lied to me telling they could help me with my enterprise rental that i already had set. Tried to tell me oh they are all under the same company got me to show her my enterprise rental info so she just got me a comparable rate acting like she was looking up my rental. I go to the car and its not the one i requested from enterprise. I figured something was up. Call enterprise. They dont know what im talking about. I go find a enterprise booth with actual enterprise people. Turns out the lady with avis straight up lied to me and was trying to steal me from enterprise. UNBELIEVABLE.TOTALLY DISHONEST!
Eric and Hugh we very helpful on getting my car after a day full of delays. They upgraded me without being asked. It was very refreshing to have people that cared and did their job very well. I 100% would recommend using this Avis rental facility. Eric and Hugh are the best!!!
I’ve been a Avis Preferred member for about 5 years and a Avis customer for about 10 years. I haven’t been to John Wayne airport in about two years but when I use to frequent it when I lived in California their customer service was always excellent especially for their preferred members. Today July 30th 2021 I arrived at the airport and had to stand in the longest Avis preferred line ever because the app wasn’t working. I waited in line for about a whole hour smh. The. I get to the counter for the mean rude older black woman customer service agent to tell me they are downgrading my vehicle because they are running short on cars. Never at any rental car agency I ever been to have they ever downgraded me instead of upgrade me when they are out of cars. I told the woman that they need to upgrade instead of down grade and she was extremely rude about it and stated she can’t. I took the car out of frustration of having to get where I needed to get however when I got inside the car it was dirty and stunk smh. I understand with all this covid stuff going on that companies are short staffed because I’m a business owner myself. However if you can’t keep up with the workload and run the company right the company should just close. I rent from Avis practically 365 days a year sometimes 2-3 cars at a time for business use and this one time was soooooo bad that I questioned should i stop doing business with Avis and use another rental company. You should should never downgrade a customer no matter what business your in. When I rent cars I expect them to be as nice or nicer the. The ones I own. Avis seriously failed me this time all the way around. Hope you guys can fix all the problems I listed above. Good job Avis Las Vegas where I live for doing 10 times better in customer service then this place.
When we picked up the car, there was sand in the creases of the front seat, and the back seat was just plain gross. There were sticky fingerprints and goo. We took pictures. We were actually going to say something to the people as we exited the rental place at the airport, but it turns out that there is no checkpoint as you leave, and there was a huge line at the desk for people still renting their cars. This would normally be pretty unacceptable, but in the age of Covid, there is absolutely no way that car was sanitized. We ended up cleaning the car out ourselves. I gaurantee that car was considerably cleaner when we dropped it than when we picked it up. Im honestly embarrassed for you. We received an Avis Preferred membership through Inspirato, and we were excited to use it for the first time. We are normally Hertz Gold members. With Hertz Gold, we simply get dropped at our car without having to stand in line at a desk. I guess I believed that Avis Preferred would be similar, but I was wrong about that. Ive never had a car that dirty through Hertz Gold, and that was long before things were supposed to be sanitized because of Covid. Im glad I tried Avis Premiere once so that I know Im not missing anything. I will say, though, that your customer service people were quite nice. You simply need to hire cleaners that will clean and managers that will check their work.
Avis has really gone downhill. Points dont earn as many perks and the bottom line is that there arent any cars. Prices represented on the app dont match the final bill. Exorbitant highway fees in California that cannot be challenged. You guys are a joke at John Wayne International.
Checked in and wait almost 25 minutes before got the Truck. When I went home that night and set up the Bluetooth, the touchscreen is not working. I tried to call the office at JohnWay Airport a couple of times and got disconnected after 2-3 rings. I called the next day the same, so I called the Support Service and they keep routing me to different departments and disconnected me again. After 5-7 called, I gave up on them. Returned the car back today and toll them that but they didnt do anything. Very disappointment on their services..
Service was very helpful. Susan explained benefits of Avis preferred at checkout at John Wayne Airport. I had a small accident with my vehicle and Avis was understanding and professional when dealing with me on the phone. I also had a quick drop-off and exchange of information which helped me to reach my flight on time. Overall very satisfied with my experience with avis
This is my second rental from AVIS and this one tops the last one. I called ahead to ensure I didnt receive a certain type of vehicles that I cant drive due to panic attacks. Low and behold thats the vehicle your front desk attempted to give me even after seeing my notes. Because your companys lack of attention to detail I walked out and proceeded to wait until a different vehicle arrived. (now if this was Enterprise the customer service would be better and there would be more selections of vehicle of to choose from then just one vehicle.) Then I also left some notes on some types if vehicles that if available I would prefer per your app and my phone call again the desk clerk proceed to tell me that you will not get a of the vehicles youbar requesting expecially that GMC Terrian because it hasnt been in your lot for a couple of years and I acknowledged at this point not getting anything either way so I waited. By the grace of gods what appears a GMC Terrain Ohhhhh I was under the appreciation that there were none. Yeah right, then I was on my way until half way to first destination and what happens I needed an oil change and guess what no open office in the area I was in so had to call cutomer service and they suggested the only thing I didnt want to here go pay for an oil change yourself and claim it after. Again no attention to detail as this should have been checked before giving it to your customer. (At least Enterprise has a checklist) Now we got it the best part as I needed to extend by one day now because I within 7 hours the rates double plus a 10 dollar service fee. So lets see over assessment and was to leave a message lets start here: Poor customer (just rude again), no attention to detail, and customer is definitely not first here as I still getting the run around for my oil change claim.Best advice I can give pay the extra and use enterprise as it ended up costing me more after this experience
The guy who helped me at Avis at John Wayne was AWESOME. He told me his name, but I am terrible and have forgotten. I had originally made the reservation for pick up at LAX and then had some really crazy, last minute plan changes happen and he made my very stressful day so much better. I just walked in, told him my situation and it took about 2 minutes for him to change everything and have me into a car. He kept me calm, assured me everything was fine and even made sure I had everything covered for my return that I hadnt thought of since my flight home was still going to be out of LAX. 10/10 would recommend!
Gave me the wrong car, long lines, friendly staff, just overwhelmed. Phone to direct location goes straight to busy so cant resolve issues. There are not enough vehicles and not enough of the right vehicles. The staff is doing the absolute best they can and really do try however corporate needs to adjust the available vehicles and work to improve pickup experience. Took over an hour to get the wrong vehicle because even with pre-pay a month in advance the vehicle we paid for was not available.
The car and staff were fine, although its a long walk to the rental car lot. However, signage on where to go when returning the car -- both on the edge of the airport property and in the parking garage -- was absolutely terrible. I had to ask for directions at Enterprise! This needs to be fixed.
Picked up vehicle in downtown LA for one way rental to John Wayne airport. First they Charged me mileage at 24 cents per mile.. Then they incorrectly tried to charge me 400 miles of travel. Good thing I had taken pictures of the odometer at the start and end of my rental. Next, I get home to receive a letter that I was being charged $250 for cleaning the car. They claimed that there was dog urine smell left in the car? How can you determine this through pictures? The worker at Avis checked me out and never said anything about a smell. An attempt to rip me off. Be very cautious about turning in vehicles in this location. Shady characters. All this to an Avis preferred member.
Great service all the time. I had an emergency on our way to a cabin trip and needed a rental right away.. with in 30 min I reserved my rental and was on the road again. Great experience and very friendly and helpful staff. The prices are fair, and the vehicles are always clean. Id definitely get a rental from Avis in the future and strongly recommend it to friends and family.
We had to exchange our car in the middle of our vacation because the original car wasnt aligned, and the man that helped us out here was incredibly rude. He was yelling and giving us a horrible attitude. We had to go back to the counter to let him know he had given us a car with 3/4 of gas, which set him off even more.
Bad service at LAX Avis Car Rental Return counter. Gas Tank door was malfunctioning. Was not able to put in gas before returning it. I informed attendant when turned in car that gas door was defective. He agreed and marked car for service. I then went to office to turn in contract and pay for rental. Explained to agent what happened, yet she insisted on charging me the Avis super high charge per gallon for people who are lazy and dont want to fill up the tank. I asked her how was I supposed to fill-up the tank (which I did try to do at a local gas station about 1 mile from the rental return area) if gas door was malfunctioning. She responded that I should have called it in as a vehicle disable to get roadside assistance. I then explained the vehicle did not need roadside assistance as when I discovered the gas door was not working I was only a mile away at a local gas station and had enough gas to return the vehicle and report the problem my self. I then told here I was willing to pay local market rate for the gas, but not the 500%+ markup rates from Avis. She again refused, and told me to email Avis is want to lodge a complaint.
The parking structure at this airport is a little difficult to maneuver. You can miss the entrance of the rental structure if youre not paying attention. The staff at this place had amazing service. Pick up and drop off were both very easy but the reason for 3 stars is that the rental was dirty when we received it.
As an Avis Preferred member, I expect that I do not have to wait in line to get my car. At John Wayne airport, I waited in line at the Preferred counter for 15 minutes to get my keys while others, who seemed to have complex transactions and no reservations, went ahead. It took me at most 1 minute to pick up my key once I got to the counter. I dont know why John Wayne does not leave the keys in the car like other Avis locations for Preferred.
I had a flat tire, I returned the vehicle only to get an email later stating the vehicle had damage along with two very fuzzy pics. You couldnt even tell what kind of vehicle they took a pic of. The vehicle had no damage when I returned it, I would never trust Avis again.
I used to rent with another company, but they screwed up my recent reservation and almost left me stranded at JWA. I walked over to Avis and they were EXTREMELY helpful!! They made me feel like a VIP even though it was my first time renting with them. I highly recommend this AVIS at John Wayne Airport any time you need to rent a car. The lady behind the counter was super nice and super helpful!!! She made everything SO easy. Thank you!!
I returned a fully fueled car, and it was noted as being full when I returned the car. The next day, they took $26 out of my deposit because they claimed that the car needed fuel. When we called about the charge, the guy told my wife that they would only remove the charge if we could produce a gas receipt, which is completely ridiculous. He only changed his tune when my wife firmly told him that she was holding the return receipt that showed the car as being fully fueled. This is no way to treat a loyal customer. We’ve used Avis for many years for personal and business travel, but I’m beginning to re-think this choice.
Are you kidding me?!?! Avis left me (and my family) stranded on the side of the road for 9 hours after getting a flat tire. We were going to change it ourselves, but the employee gave me a “key fob” only, that didn’t INCLUDE A KEY NECESSARY TO UNLOCK THE SPARE TIRE ON THE SUV . What a total nightmare.Roadside assistance was called 15 times. No help. They actually told the tow driver to leave me and my family on the side of the road!!! We were in rural Oklahoma miles from anyone or anything!!!The tow company (called by Avis) eventually arrived and broke their own company policy to safely get us off the fwy. They broke the lock off the spare and got us back on the road. We lost an entire day of travel.Avis supervisor was contacted and agreed to reimburse me $300 plus tax within 3 days of returning the vehicle. . I agreed.I returned it July 8th 9pm. I took a pic of it in the return area at John Wayne airport in Santa Ana. I have repeatedly called to find out where my refund was. Got a letter saying I still had the car and now they are threatening me with ARREST!!!!! Are you KIDDING ME?!?! Look back on your notes and all of the phone calls I have made trying to get help! Check your security cameras and see that I return the car on July 8 at 9 PM. You will see your damn car, you will see me talking to TWO employees. You will see me get into my daughters car to go home!
Great experience! I arrived at the Preferred Service desk and was the only one in line, a refreshing change from the usual wait I have experienced with other car rental counters at John Wayne airport. They gave me a complimentary upgrade from a full size car to a fully loaded Nissan Armada, which is the car I am thinking of buying! The car was parked fairly far away in the lot and the manager walked out there for me and drove the car up to where I was waiting so I didn’t have to haul my luggage across the lot. Great customer service, super friendly and helpful staff. Will only be renting from Avis when I return to John Wayne airport!
According to my experience and my work, which requires dealing with car rental companies, Avis is one of the most prestigious companies, but unfortunately the employees who are chosen as the front of the company in American airports are not good. I have two experiences, one at Houston airport and the other at Orange County Airport. By phone, he finishes things on the phone, and I wait for about 15 minutes. I rented a car from California to Portland Oregon for $ 123 per day, delivery in Portland, a thousand miles and more, and the road had repairs and an hour late, and $ 109 was calculated for an hour of delay, knowing that the daily rent is 123 I do not think that I will deal with them again and I do not recommend dealing with them with such a policy ....
Exceptional customer service. This location is always busy and handles everything with ease. From the front counter employees to the employees checking in your car, they work quickly to get you on your way with providing you everything you need. Their customer service attitude is professional and positive. Great job Avis! This location is well managed and the teamwork is great here. Please dont change these people.
This place is great since it’s in the airport in the parking garage. You don’t need to take a shuttle to the location. The rep that helped me was great and explained the benefit of getting the car rental ins, only 11/ a day. Better safe than sorry. The car was amazing, Red Mustang GT 5.0. Spotless ! Return was simple and easy. Would recommend to any everyone!!
I booked through Costco and Avis added many non-pkg line item to my rental. I had to waste almost an hour on the phone and then another 30 minutes in person to get it sort out. I was an Avis customer for so many years but after this experience, I no longer recommend nor will I use your service in the future.
I am always impressed with the detail and service I receive at Avis. We rent a car once a month at the John Wayne airport. This last visit I was helped by Ohn On She is always friendly and remembers us when we come in town. A few times there has been a long line of people waiting to pick up their cars on busy weekends (we have the ability to just pick up the keys but never want to assume were more important just because we rent frequently) Ohn will see us in line and call us up quick to verify and hand is the keys and were on our way. Thats The kind of small difference that keeps us renting with Avis. We also have specific requests in regards to our needs and she is always willing to help us find what fits. We are in and out of the car making multiple stops a day loading our gear in and out of the car and having a push button trunk from the key fob makes a huge difference in our week. Those are the details that make the difference.
I have never had a problem before with avis but when I went to pick up my suv the lady tells me I need a credit card if not I cant rent it. I have always used my debit card with no issues and besides its considered a credit card as well. When you pass my debit card you get the money instantly so I dont know what the issue was. My husband even said he would put his credit card on file if any problems occur. Then I got a mitsubishi outlander instead of a ford explorer. I was with my three kids and husband and we barely fit with six cases. Im sorry to say but at least this time my experience with avis was not good with the customer service rep and she was like she didnt even want to rent me the suv. When I left my car the gentleman that I turn the keys too and checked the car in with was really nice and kind.
I called to ask about dropping the car at another airport when my flight plans changed and the fees were outrageous. I returned the car and rented from a competitor to drive home for less than the drop off fee. Also when we returned the car your system automatically charged me a fuel surcharge when I returned the car full. It must happen a lot because when I stood in line and asked for it to be returned she didnt even ask for proof, she just removed it. But what a scam. This left me with a REALLY bad taste in my mouth. After the hard upsell at checkout Ill think long and hard before choosing Avis again.
There is good service and then there is going beyond good service. I needed a rental to go visit a friend... Im here for work. She looked it up... Corporate rate $45... Then realized that they had a sale... Changed my reservation... Got me an SUV for an extra day... All under $100.Now that is great customer service. My partner had a car rented from LAX that he wanted to return here to save a 1.5 hour trip... Corporate said, sorry cant help you... But the manager here made the arangement... Noticed the other car was due an oil change... And gave him a new car for the remainder of the trip.I would give them 20 stars if I could.
After so many rental with Avis, this one rental experience has been the worst one I have had with Avis. From when I pick up the vehicle, being a preferred customer, it doesnt feel that I am preferred as I was next in line but the counter rep decided to help out a white couple. I dont like using the color of my skin as an excuse but its something that I experience frequently. Once at the counter I am charged a deposit, which I have never been charged. What really upset me is I am explaining that to the counter rep and they claim, I am hearing what you are saying but we have always had one. Yet, a month ago a rented a passenger van and I didnt have a deposit. I knew what i was talking about but I got treated as if I didnt know anything at all. I think its time that I go to a different rental company. I would recommend Hertz as I have rented from them before and I have never had any issues with them and they provide better service as well.
This Avis place charged me 250$ for security deposit and never gave it back. Now I’ve tried everything to speak with somebody about it and they aren’t helpful . My last call is to speak with corporate. You can’t just take somebody’s money and expect them to be okay with you doing that. Freddy and Andrew if that’s really their names I will be reporting you to corporate. It’s not fair that you don’t explain the contract to a person signing it. Maybe it was MY job to go through it but it’s only to show how much customer service this company practices. 1 star is fair enough
I arrived 4 hrs late because of flight delays and it took an hour to get the car. If I hadnt already paid for it I would have gone to Budget next door. One guy was trying to rent a car without a drivers license. He made up several stories. It was at home. It was in the luggage. His wife had it. There were 8 people waiting in line. The other guy didnt want to pay for an extra hour and so spent an hour arguing. I just want my car. I still have 2 hrs of driving. You can deal with those nuts again. Im not renting from Avis again.
The car was beautiful. I felt like I was on a luxury vacation-while I was there on business for 4 days. I was able to drive around in a mustang 5.0!! Beautiful car, Great customer service! Very easy to pick up and drop off! I will use Budget on my weekly business travel! going forward!
Car was easy to book online and everything was clean, unfortunately the sales associate was extremely aggressive and gave false information to push insurance. This made our whole group very uncomfortable. Would rent rent from Avis again but would send this employee to re-training. Lying should not be the mechanism used to help sell insurance. Very bad taste.
This is the best Jeep I have ever gotten from ANY vehicle rental company. It was like brand new even with 30,000. miles on it it drove superbly and I really wonted to keep it.The service at the airport was quick and without hassle. the drop off was cool I liked driving through the car wash before turning it in so it looked like new again, Yes its a Jeep and I treated it as such so it needed a shower.I will be looking for my next Budget jeep.
At the counter they tried to pack in the insurance, also tried to upgrade me after telling them I just want the car I reserved. Also, I filled up the car at a gas station before returning the car. Drove 3 miles at the most, and was charge $5.74 for a gas surcharge. They say the car was a half gallon short. I wont rent from AVIS again!!!
My rental car had not been cleaned properly, food, trash and other personal items were under the passenger seats. Shortly after leaving the airport, I discovered that none of the 12V outlets worked & my cell phone died. Returned to airport to exchange the vehicle and was not given any adjustment on the drop off time for our inconvenience of having to return and was told to replace the little amount of gas that was used going all the way back to the airport where I was told to put gas in the vehicle or I would be charged. The new rental car had no washer fluid at all and the oil service indicator kept popping up.
Most unethical vehicle rental car company weve ever used. We spent over 3 hours at the Orange County Airport Avis Rental trying pickup a 7 passenger vehicle that we were promised would be available and was not. (Plus 1 hour dropping it off). It took a handful of managers and staff members to come up with a solution to set us up with a large passenger van for the same price and when we all decided that we wanted the insurance waived, we were told Avis would kindly cover the cost for all of the inconvenience. A staff member named Stephanie made sure to write it on the paperwork saying they would cover the cost and signed it. Its now been over a week since we returned the vehicle and our credit card has been charged for the weeks insurance. We have countless emails from Avis saying they are refusing to cover the insurance cost even though we have it all in writing. Avis is saying they cant authenticate Stephanies signature. Dealing with them has been incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. It seems no one with that company has a clue of whats going on. Never again Avis, never again.
Unfortunately this Rental Car Agency Avis at Orange County Airport was a nightmare. Terrible customer service, they do not answer the phone I called 4 times and could only get customer service which was in any other location, which could NOT help me out at all.I specifically Asked for a Large Truck so I could use it to move a medium sized Cabinet last minute. I reserved a Ford F150 I was told. When I got there, after finding out it was down in the parking lot of the Airport. (Meaning I would have to Park my personal Car overnight and pay around $30-$40.) I was pretty upset. I actually had to leave my Car in a no parking area and take an Uber to the Rental location in the Airport. Then they gave me a Dodge Ram Nice Truck Ill give them that, But it had a SMALL Bed. My Cabinet DID NOT FIT the only reason for the Rental. I called to explain of the misunderstanding and of course only got General Customer Service which basically told me to talk to people at the Counter when returning Truck. I had to keep it another day due to the SMALL Truck Bed and still was unable to Move my Cabinet. Now I will have to Rent another truck and waste my time again. Thanks for Nothing AVIS.. Also they try to Push Extra Insurance for another $49. So do your research Before renting from AVIS and if you have questions dont bother calling theyre location cause it is just a General Customer Service number. And it wont help matters. $100 Down the Drain:(
We didnt want to put miles on our car so we decided to rent a car for our drive to Vegas. The rates were extremely competitive and I liked that they were open on Thanksgiving day. Their location at John Wayne Airport has very convenient hours. Even though they had to work on Thanksgiving, the staff was very friendly. We got the Nissan Versa as our economy car. It was clean, well kept, and ran really well. We actually got back a little bit past our return time but they didnt charge me extra since I was within the 30 minute grace period. The only reason I didnt LOVE it was because upon our return, we pulled up to where the car return area was and no one was there. I waited for about two minutes before walking up to their counter and asking for help. The staff was very apologetic and took care of me right away.Overall, great experience
Ive rented through all the rental agencies and just Love the options, upgrades and promptness of avis. I can always count on getting great cars for a slightly higher price. Although my car was not washed at all this last time, it was upgraded so Ill forgive it this time.
Make sure to read your fine print, Avis car agents will not explain anything charge related to you at all. Except that it’s your responsibility to read your contact. Add on charges for everything and $100 in gas charges when I requested for pre paid gas. Pick someone else next time when looking for rentals. agent was more concerned with getting me a larger more expensive car then explaining all related fees and charges. And then when we got to the parking garage where the rental cars were the one she pushed us into was already taken by someone else to only be shuffled into a completely different car than desired.
Travel is odd during COVID. Despite there being virtually no one at the airport when we arrived, we waited in the AVIS line for 30 minutes. There was only one representative handling all the rentals for both AVIS and Budget. The line was in a hot garage, with no where to sit. Even when travel and therefore rentals are reduced, there needs to be adequate staff to get renters into cars and on their way
I think everything was good, I didnt like the fact that there was no phone number to contact location for confirmation for the pick and to let them know that I was running late. everything else was good Best price also... other than that I would have been a 10 experience.
I had reserved an economy car for a week while back in So. Cal. I usually use your sister company, Budget and always have a good experience. When I arrived at SNA, John Wayne Airport, I just wanted my economy car as we were driving quite extensively, so I needed a vehicle that got good gas mileage. When I got to the desk, the Associate looked up my reservation and immediately began trying to up-sell me to a larger vehicle. After repeatedly trying to get me to pay more for a larger car, she finally gave up. She then tried pressure selling me the extra insurance, which I repeatedly refused. After giving up at that, she told me that I should buy the Toll Road coverage, which I also refused. Finally, after all was said and done, she told me that they did not have an economy car, but would give me another vehicle for no more money. I just felt that If she KNEW she had no economy car available, and had to give me an upgraded vehicle anyway, why was she trying to up-sell me, when I was already going to have to have to be put in an upgraded vehicle anyways?
This incident took place in July 2018. I do not often go into Google reviews and noticed that the address mentioned was incorrect. This did happen at 18601 Airport Way, Santa Ana, CA 92707, USAMy interaction when picking up the car at the airport, was just excellent. Darlene, I do hope I got her name correct. Was, way, beyond our expectations, in customer service and treatment of a customer. We felt like Royalty. She made us feel totally at ease. I was a bit skeptical, at the start of renting from Avis. I had seen the reviews and some were appalling. And since I wasnt local I was quite a bit, skeptical. First I have to compliment the person who booked the deal for me. She was on the chat channel. and I am afraid I didnt note her name. But she is the first person who put me at ease. Then after reading the comments of peoples dealings with Avis .............I kept wondering if I would suffer the same fate as some of them did. Though the flight was delayed and we reached our destination at SNA more than 2 hours late. All our fears were dispelled when we met Darlene. Who was all smiles and ready to help. Though the car I ordered was not there(taken), she upgraded me without any fuss. And sent us on our way. All happy and content. On return of the car the guy who took back the car, could have his manners upped. However the customer service guy at the counter was much better and saw my problem about the gas - return a bit short, and charged me half of what otherwise would have been charged.
We rented through a discounted rate through Groupon. Upon check-in, our car was upgraded free of charge. It was clean and ready for use. The car performed wonderfully. The return was as smooth as could be. Very impressed with the service and ease of which we picked up and returned the vehicle. Thanks Avis!
I rented a car from AVIS and requested a convertible. I was greeted with a smile at the counter by (Romeo) and he took care of me very quickly. My car was ready upon my arrival and it exceeded my expectations. AVIS provided me a brand new gorgeous red Mustang convertible and it was cleaned up and ready to go. Not a lot of trunk space but still not bad for a smaller car. I must say that driving the Mustang made the drive to and from Vegas a great experience and I couldve cared less about sitting in traffic as I was enjoying car.My return of the car was just as quick as picking the car up. AVIS car return is fast and easy and the guy at the counter (Romeo) was very friendly. AVIS has always been my preferred car rental provider and I will always use them for my rental needs. Great service and great price.
I had a great experience renting from Avis. It was the first time I have used them and I will continue. They made the process both of picking up and dropping off very smooth and painless and quick. It seemed so easy compared to other rental car companies. I would definitely recommend Avis to anyone in the market. The car was exactly as promised and no hassle or sales pitches either.
The Staff was very polite and offered an upgrade based on my rental experience without me asking for one. The car was clean and very comfortable, easy to pickup and drop off with no surprises. I highly recommend Avis over other choices at this airport. This was one of the best rental experiences Ive had spanning 38 years of using rental cars.
I had a mini lease with Avis @ John Wayne, basically most of the staffs are very helpful and thoughtful. They take care of what you need and do their best to provide the best service. Especially Hugh, who recommended a good new car to me and when i request for a receipt from 2 months ago, he is more then willing to email to me. Although these are part of their job, but I could feel that they their service is more then what is expected. Keep up the good work!
At first, we were a bit hesitant after reading comments for this car rental location. We decided to give it a try just because we found coupon codes for a very good deal. When we arrived to the Avis counter, Violet was very helpful in processing our reservation and explaining details of the insurance matter. No hard selling for upgrading nor pushing us to buy their auto insurance. Easy pick-up and return process. The only down side is the dark basement location for car pick-up. You may need a flashlight to check your car before you drive it away. But over all, good experience. :)
Avis only had a 2 door available and I couldnt afford an upgrade to their next available 4 door but I was traveling alone with a toddler and had my hands full. The Avis rep gave me the upgrade at no charge so that my son was in a safer car and so I didnt have to struggle to put him in the car seat.
What a great team!! I left my sunglasses in the car, I think it was Linda called the lot. They called back and the car was still in the airport. It drove right by and we ran out and Velma stopped so i could retrieve my glasses. Thumbs up to Susan, Linda, Yoli and Velma and the guys in the lot!!! Thanks EVERYONE.
This was absolutely the worst experience I have ever had utilizing ANY rental car agency. The car provided was NOT comparable to competitors as a Full sized. The car provided was NOT cleaned (it had ants in the back seat). Customer support when I called 4 times provided anything BUT actual support, they sent me to 3 sites to replace the car, without ever looking up inventory or calling the sites to see if they had cars... best I figure you owe my monitory support for my wasted time! All I was ever provided was empty apologies. I will do absolutely everything in my power to ensure my company removes you as a supported rental agent
I have to say Santa anna airport Avis was a hot mess no signs saying where to go other then go across the street and take the elevator down one floor. However that was not the case I went down 2 elevators to find that they are not the Avis. Avis was across the street down about a block with language and a 5 year old it was frustrating clearer identifiers on where Avis is would be great. Ridgecrest drop off site this gentleman was kind courteous and friend. Kudos to him. Please let him know he made my dropping off of my car so painless.
The car was OK, although it was not what I requested, but the pick up process was agonizing. I stood in line for close to an hour as the two counter people took 15-20 minutes to check in each customer. Everyone waiting was incredulous that they were so slow. Next door at Enterprise, people were taken care of very quickly. Then, when I returned the car, there was some problem with their system and I had to stand in line again to get my receipt. I would not use Avis again.
The on airport facility is easy to pick up and return Rental car. Had a recurring issue with the cleanliness of the windshield of the car. Not only was it difficult to see when the sun was shining, but I picked it up after dark and oncoming headlines made visibility near impossible. While most of my rentals, cars are very clean, it is not uncommon for the windshields to be left untouched.
It wasnt any worse that previous rental experiences... but not better either. We upgraded to the Mustang GT and it was Definitely worth it! Thanks Avis! I fully expected it to be dialed-back but it had the Track Pack and was a wonderful sensory experience... left JJ s pulling out of the lot. Loved it!
My husband has spent over an hour here the last couple days due do the employees here at the John Wayne Airport Avis location, no one gives the same rates, employees are rude, don’t even try to call customer service they just hang up in your face. Thank you Avis for making my husband (an active duty soldier) first trip home in four years a pain.
I initially rented a 15 passenger van for 12 days but decided to exchange it after 5 days for a mini-van. The 15 passenger van did was stored off-site and had to be dropped off at that site when returned. I was given a flyer with the instructions and a phone number to call to notify them of when I would be dropping it off. I called that number for 3 days to inquire about the exchange, notifying then I was dropping it off and to report that I had left a sweater in the back of the van after I dropped it off. The phone went to voicemail and the mailbox was full all three days. I sat in a coffee shop and waited for the office to open on Monday for an hour, but it turned out that the office was actually staff 1.5 hours earlier but I didnt know because no one was answering the phone to let me know the office was open. My sweater could have been recovered if someone had answered the phone because I called just a few hours after dropping off the van. I give you a rating a 3 only because the staff was friendly when I finally was able to meet personally meet with someone. But the system set up doesnt work and one of your employees probably has a new sweater.
We were crunched for a last minute rental need and AVIS delivered immensely! Absolutely outstanding customer service and our rep, Jaylen, managed to help out with everything we needed and was quite kind and insightful! When you need a rental car, they are the people to talk to. Absolutely recommend to anyone who needs a rental.
I really like Avis. They are conveniently located and the customer service people are nice and very accommodating. Yes, they try to sell high priced insurance and costly amenities such as satellite and GPS service but thats their job. I just say NO. I was sucked into that once and it cost a fortune! But thats on me. My last trip I had a lot of luggage. When I returned the vehicle they drove me and my luggage to the departure gates, that was really nice!
Avis at SNA is a pleasant experience. The staff is friendly and helpful. The car I rented was spic and span clean, plus a nice upgrade for my status level. The garage next to the terminal is ultra convenient. Navigating the garage is a bit tight, especially when returning - they could have done a better job with directing me to the return area. I ended up parking askew when the returning renter in front of me suddenly stopped, making it hard for drivers who had to go around my car.
This rating is not because of any given individual but because of the way the company does business. Its phone system is designed to give you the run around. You will almost never talk to a human being, if you do they will be from a foreign country and will do there best to push you off to someone else. All wanted to call and ask if I had left my phone in the car. Its frustrating when someone sees you in trouble and they really dont care and just try to escape helping you.
The employees were awesome. Even though we went to the wrong place to try to pick up our car, they helped us anyway. They gave us an upgrade as well when they heard that we were there for our wedding. The car was very nice and clean. We got our car quickly and were able to drop it off very quickly as well. We would definitely get a car from them again in the future.
I rent from you guys all the time at the orange co airport .. the last few times have been painful. My car reservation was canceled, the manager was rude and seemed like he was being bothered by my issue and they had to make a new reservation .. plus there was garbage under the seats of the car (doesnt take much to clean the car). Plus, I didnt get the car I reserved, which was true the last few times. Your only as good as your last reservation. Probably the last time I reserve a car with Avis.
Like the last survey you sent me. I rented a van at sna when I got into the van I looked at the mileage it was 864. Your bill at the end of the rental said it was 517. So I had to pay 33.01 more for the excess of 625 for the 5 days. When I talked to your person on the phone he said I had to pay the 33.01. Do you think I will use you again.
I had reserved a car through AVIS online about a month prior for our four-day trip for $143. When we arrived at Avis there were 2 ladies working, both with customers at the moment but we were first in line and enjoying the sun. Darlene was our helper for the day, I showed her my reservation and handed her my license and began our check in process. As she was asking us the typical questions will you both be driving, what are you here for, avoid 73 if you dont want to pay tolls we got to the portion about extra insurance coverage. Mind you, I opted out on our reservation and to her verbally at the counter. We explained that my husband and I both have really good insurance that covers rentals - she said she had to ask, but since we had good insurance it made complete sense to pass on additional coverage and how that would end up saving money. As I am signing the rental contract screen her teammate mentioned he had a lunch break scheduled and left Darlene at the counter. I think this is an important detail as a line quickly formed behind us and I could tell she was stressed. Especially since she kept calling down to the garage for a car for us and they kept telling her to call someone else/call back (we could hear as whoever she was talking to was LOUD). She kept assuring people in line she would be with them soon. While all this was happening I started signing the rental agreement. I saw a number on the screen similar to what our online reservation said $104 and $25 for taxes and fees - great. But then I saw a $289 number - I asked her what it was for and she said it was the price if you didnt want basic coverage - which I reminded her basic was what we wanted and she said something along the lines of right, just sign so I believed that she was guiding me according to our conversation of what I did and did not want - it is a tricky system as where you sign is all over the screen and it is hard to tell what exactly you are signing for WHICH IS WHY I ASKED HER WHAT THE $289 WAS FOR.All said and done we got down to our car, which was a Jeep Renegade and the perfect car for our 4 day beach excursion. We drove so far in our 4 day trip and only went through 1 gallon of gas so that was a pleasant surprise. Other than the car looking like it got a rushed vacuum job it was in great shape.Once returning to AVIS we get our car checked back in and get a receipt printed to us that was for $289 - we asked why did our price nearly double? And he told us to take it into the office. Once we gathered all our belonging and we went into the office and spoke with Jay, who said he was Darlenes manager. We showed him our reservation and asked why the total doubled. He printed out a copy of our receipt and said it was for all our extra insurance coverage.... Obviously, we did not want extra insurance coverage, we had at least a minute long conversation with Darlene at check in about how we did not want it. He told us we signed for it and there was nothing he could do - which is frustrating for MULTIPLE reasons.First off, he made me feel like an idiot because he kept telling me never sign anything unless you know what it is for - which I DID ask what it was for to Darlene and she instructed me where to sign for our basic coverage (which we had the conversation about). I guess I was far too trusting. Also, as the manager, you CAN do something other than tell us I am sorry you feel that way when we are upset that we felt lied to about what we were signing for. Granted, I still think Darlene was feeling stressed and probably just made an error due to trying to console the 5 people in line behind us who were very impatient about how long it was taking - she seemed very helpful and friendly the whole time. However, I am also frustrated because if I just verbally told you one thing and signed for something else wouldnt you call that out as the worker who understands the system?
Horrible. I am an Avis preferred member and have been a loyal customer ever since I started renting cars. I was transferred from another location due to their lack of having a car despite my prepaid reservation. Employees refused to honor my prepaid agreement or for that matter help resolve the issue in any way. Waited on hold for 30 minutes in the lobby before finally I was forced to pay a higher same-day rate to get a car. I was also charged $15 for fuel service when I drove less than 50 miles and filled the car before my return. When calling customer service they say that this branch doesnt participate so they cant help me (what does that even mean). An employee went as far as saying good luck man thats just Avis haha.
My wife has difficulty walking. The walk from our car drop-off location to the check in terminal was way beyond my wifes capabilities. One of your associates told us to get into the car we just turned in and he would take us, along with our luggage to the Southwest curb check in kiosk. What a nice thing for that gentleman to do. You need to find that man and personally thank him for us. The day was 11/19/19 just after noon.
Fast check out and friendly staff member. I have always rented from this loction. Only reason of 4 stars out of 5 this past rental we had a bad experience with the car (in the last 3 years renting from Avis this is the 1st time). Once again the staff member was great, however the car was not at all.
Second experience with Avis at SNA hasnt been really good. Car return spots are clearly marked. Theres staff to support and guide you to the parking. This has been a welcome change than my first experience which was horrible.Suggedtion: Avoid car returns at close if business hours when theyre understaffed.
I rented a car for 6.5 weeks, as I was working out-of-town. Due to the virus, my employment was ended after 10 days. I returned the car to Avis and was told that due to company policy, I could not get a refund for the 5 weeks I did not use the car. Given the extraordinary circumstances, I feel this is insensitive, unfair, and a bit outrageous.
This AVIS location within John Wayne Airport is Awesome! From the minute I walk in, they have always greeted me with a positive attitude and smile. Ive shown up with a reservation and at times without a reservation, and they still go out of their way to assist me and provide me with great customer service and get me the vehicle of my choice. This location is worth the 30 minute drive, when in need of renting a vehicle, for a quick out of town get away in luxury.
I have all the proofs and receipt from Avis person when returning the car, but they charged me $450. At first when I call them they said I returned the car 2 days later and without gas. I send them email with receipts than the agent is saying There were no gas, but receipt I have shows full gas and car condition was good. Not sure why they are playing around with customer and $450 for less fuel??? I am calling my credit card company for fraud transaction and also will try to file a case through some lawyer definitely.

2022-05-13I Arrive at Newport beach for a conference for 6 days. First I was told the my reservation did not have my Avis Preferred account on it (I booked directly on Avis site). Then the agent did not give my Avis preferred upgrade and sent me out with a badly damaged vehicle. There was no one to inspect the vehicle with me so i took pictures at the parking lot. The entire passenger side quarter panel was damaged, the bumper was pop out of place and look like it will fall off.

2021-12-31We rented from Avis/Budget SNA for 3 days. They held us hostage meaning we had to upgrade to a larger vehicle or wait 2 hours for a car. There was no inspection station to show the scrapes on the Chevy Traverse but we did take photos. They changed is $500 more 3x the original quoted price in the end without discussing anything with us and we returned the car fueled with no new marks or dents. Experience was horrible. I would not recommend them.

2022-04-28Never thought Id be leaving a five-star review for a rental car location however Avis went above and beyond today. Nicole, was extremely helpful, responsive and quick! Never seen someone take down my information and find me a rental so fast, especially at an airport. She had two large groups ahead of me and kept her cool, despite some of them acting like animals. Give her a raise, she really gave Avis a good name today.

2022-06-24Oh man I wish I read the yelp reviews before I booked my car through them. This is the Avis at John Wayne airport. I originally booked a Ford Fiesta or similar through Avis at John Wayne airport because of the competitive price. Little did I know I got charged way more without even knowing!!! I prepaid $204 online and ended up getting charged for $100 more!!! No one has told me why I got the extra charge, not online when I made the reservation, not when I picked up my car, not when I dropped off my car. I tried calling them, no answer. I tried emailing them, they got back to me and said it was Loss Damage Waiver, Additional Liability Insurance, Extended Roadside Assistance. What??!! When did I agree to these??!! Now theyre just ignoring my email. Not to mention that they did not give me the car I reserved. They gave me an SUV, which I am not good at driving, could barely fit into my parking space, and had to pay A LOT more to refill the gas in the end. WORSE COMPANY EVER! WORSE SERVICE EVER! THEY WILL NOT GET BUSINESS FROM ME OR MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY AGAIN!

2022-01-14Usually I get good service from Avis. But lately, they seem to have fallen short. For my last rental from them, I had put in a request for a full-size vehicle, but they sent me a text message telling me I was getting a convertible Volkswagon Beetle. When we arrived at the Avis counter, I explained the problem, so they gave me a different car. However, the car they gave me, a Toyota Camry, was hardly full size. We could only fit 2 of our 4 suitcases in the trunk, and my daughters had to sit in the back seat surrounded by their luggage. Then, I wanted to make sure that we were not charged $12 per day for the toll transponder. This had happened to us when we previously rented from Avis. We had not signed up for the transponder, but were charged for it anyway. It took a long time, including waiting on hold on the phone, to get the charges removed. When I asked about it this time, the woman behind the counter told me that we had no choice: once we go through one toll, we are automatically charged $12 per day. It took them 20 minutes to get someone else to explain to me that this is not true. The bottom line is they need to stop charging customers for services that they did not ask for, to give customers the type of vehicle they were expecting (and paying) to get, and to better train their staff on their services and charges.

2022-01-03Overall a good experience but there was a slight wait of 25 minutes to get the car after going to the checking in desk at the terminal. I do realize that this is one of the busiest periods of the year however the signs at the car pick up point were misleading and a line of people who were waiting to pick up cars were in the wrong place (due to the incorrectly placed temporary sign). It took a while for staff to advise us that we were in line at the wrong door (exit point) and move the sign. Customers that had been waiting for longer than I were not very happy especially as they had all just come off of flights. Apart from that initial delay the car was very clean, fairly new and mechanically sound. Staff were pleasant and helpful and check in upon return was fast and efficient.

2022-02-11DONT listen to the agent he or she suggests you to bring the car back without refueling up the tank.Update (one week later): I filed a complaint to AVIS and got them to refund the extra charge after a few email exchanges. I am also happy to see my post got the immediate attention from AVIS (even though thats after I already contacted AVIS myself.)Had bad luck with this agent. First, he refused to rent me the car because his card reader couldnt take my credit card, until I convinced him to try another card reader and it worked. Second, he promised me bringing the car back without refueling the tank is cheaper and assured me theres no extra service charge. It turned out my suspicion is right and I got charged 40 dollars of gas service fee.

2022-01-03The rental car was not well maintained when it was given to me. The left rear passenger door cant open from inside the car. Someone had to open the door for the rear passenger during the trip. When I returned the car, the service people asked me to talk to service manager for getting partial refund but manager was not available at that time. Both car maintenance and service can be improved. I would not recommend Avis to my friend.

2022-05-15This ridiculous experience happened at John Way airport.1) The upstairs location was closed. Went to Budget, after waiting 15 min I was told to go downstairs :(2) when I got to the counter without a reservation I was told that there were no small cars available, and I would have to pay $510 for 5 days, which was more expensive than the online reservation I tried to make. At the same moment, I went online and made a reservation for a small car available for $400. The assistant no even apologized.3) the assistant offered to sell me a full tank for $6/gl making the point that it was cheaper than at the gas station that should cost $6.50. This for me was a disrespected for the customer’s intelligence. What’s the probability that I will return the car with the tank empty? Zero! On top of that I filled up the tank for $6/gl.You should review your terrible customer service if you want to keep your customers. Thanks,

2022-05-28Upon drop off of the vehicle at SNA, the staff were not helpful and unfriendly. We had 4 suitcases, 4 carry ons, double stroller and 2 large car seats. We had 3 adults and 2 young kids. There were no luggage carts on the floor. It is not humanly possible to bring up all the stuff we had to departures. No staff member would assist us and did not know where to find luggage carts. There was no customer service in trying to help us locate some at all. We eventually located some on a different level. The person that helped us was from National Car Rental. The only helpful person. If I was to rent again, I would rather rent from someone that has customer service and compassion. It is very inconvenient with young kids to go and try to find a luggage cart when we don’t know the airport at all. This process also delayed us in getting to the airline check in desk (who is already short staffed and having their own issues). The other issue was the person that checked the vehicle, just issues a receipt without explaining anything. We prepaid for a full tank of gas but hardly travelled and it was basically a full tank of gas when we brought it back. He told me that I would have to go to the Avis office that is on a different level. Very inconvenient that no one can assist you with very simple information. Very disappointed with Avis and will not be using them again.
