My car broke down immediately after pickup. Spent two hours waiting for a tow. When I got back to get a replacement there was zero sympathy. The manager didn’t couldn’t care less. When I asked if they could help me out his response was simply “absolutely not” and he just walked away. I can’t tell which is worse, the company or the people. No more business from me, Avis.
My wife and I were in town for our honeymoon and our bank was giving us issues when we were trying to pickup our rental. Danielle was really patient with us and helped get everything sorted out. I don’t think our honeymoon would’ve gone as smoothly if it weren’t for her. Thanks so much, Danielle!
Paid up front for a mid sized car and they gave me a SUV/Truck. Not good for a business trip, cost $$ for gas, and hard to park in the SF Bay Area. Was going to try and drop off at another area airport so I could get home early but they seem to just double the price you pay for rental. Could have dropped off and rented another car for the fee and dropped it off.
I phoned toll-free number and speaking with one of your operators I was guaranteed that in the state of california where I will pick up the car it is possible to do this even with a visa or mastercard debit card in the name of the person who made the reservation. as long as the debit card does not have the wording Electronic use only.my card does not have this written anywhere, it is linked to my personal bank account and is a mastercard.
After previously using enterprise regularly years ago for work mostly I just Used Avis for the first time at this location after finding a deal online and it paid off thanks to great customer service and attitude. Would recommend to anyone needing a rental at the airport, Charnika is the name of the very pleasant Avis representative who helped me out and her manager Alice as well they were the definition of professionals with great attitudes and as anyone who rents cars occasionally may know that makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Go try them !
The staff here were excellent and helped me to get an issue with my payment method sorted out very quickly so I could be on my way with as little problem as possible. The car was a very new model, perfect for me, and very clean. The counter stay even helped me with toll information for roads I would be driving on to avoid over paying. Excellent service.
Had a prepaid reservation on a debit card from Avis website. Refused to add credit card to allow for the reservation. Staff were extremely rude. Manager was even worse. They had us call Avis and we were on hold to make the changes. They wouldn’t change it on their own. What’s the point of your job if I have to call to make changes? The guy on the phone wasn’t helpful and even said “guess you are out of luck.” Spend your money on any other rental car service because nothing can be worse than this place. I will never use Avis again and will make sure all my friends and family do the same.
So slow processing. Waited for about an hour even though there were less than 10 customers ahead of us. The Enterprise nearby is more than 5 times faster with similar amount of customers. We had, and only had 2 representatives with that amount of volume, and what made it even worse is that one went for lunch break with no back fill! People are very unhappy here.
We arrived at 2pm on a Saturday during the Holiday season and not a soul at the counter. After waiting for 10mins for someone to show up. We asked someone at the Budget counter where the representative would be back. He asked if we were Avis preferred (we aren’t) and then said he would help us after all the other Budget customers. How do you not have a single counter worker during the holidays on a weekend? Horrible planning a service and will not rent from them again.
My car was not ready when I received a text stating that it was. Next when I did arrive, they claimed the car I originally reserved will not be available and if I wanted a car I had to pay for an upgrade. The representative clearly thought my lack of speaking English was an opportunity. I was already stressed and running behind, so I paid for the upgrade. At other places, I was upgraded for free as part of customer service. Be careful.Update 06/26/2021:From: AvisAvis Case: 40115785Dear Betsy,Thank you for contacting the E-mail Customer Service team via Social Media. On behalf of our entire Avis team, I apologize for the issues you encountered with this rental and I will be pleased to assist with your concerns.I have reviewed the billing on your rental contract and see that the additional charge is for an upgrade. Our documentation shows the upgrade was agreed to and signed for. Your rental billing is found to be correct and no adjustment warranted for services received and billed. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to clarify the benefit options you elected during your rental.Any difficulties or problems encountered are a concern to us, and we apologize most sincerely for the inconvenience you were caused. Although we realize we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your feedback. Only by being made aware of a problem can we fix it and offer the high quality of service that Avis customers expect and deserve. We understand your position constructive criticism is appreciated.Should you need additional assistance or have further questions, please let us know.Sincerely,Susan V.Social Media RepresentativeAvis Rent A Car System, LLCMY TURN:They really HAD the audacity to say I signed to the terms and agreement, obviously! The main reason behind all of this was I HAD TO UPGRADE BECAUSE YOUR LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PROMISE CLAIMED THAT I WILL HAVE A VEHICLE OR SIMILAR (BASED ON MY RESERVATIONS I MADE WAY IN ADVANCE) WAS NOT AVAILABLE! I was already on a time crunch for personal reasons. All in all, Hertz sets the bar for customer service!! Even if the vehicle of my choice was not available upon my arrival--- they made sure I still left in a vehicle-- even if they had to complimentary upgrade it.End of this useless discussion with Avis. CLEARLY, Im not the only one who felt the same way.
DO NOT rent a vehicle here! They combine their line with all their other companies, so plan on waiting 30 to 60 minutes for a vehicle. Then the vehicle wont be in the stall they say it is! It happened to 3 different parties in a 10 minute span. THEN, they charge me a $78 fuel charge (at $10 per gallon) even though I returned the vehicle full. Check your receipt VERY carefully, or better yet, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!
OVER BILLING!! Check your bill before leaving the return area. When I dropped my car off after my business trip on 6/15 the attendant said to leave the keys and they will check the car in and send my receipt to the email on file. I said fine and walked away. Big mistake. I later checked my bill when I returned home and saw that I was charged $19 for a bogus Fuel Surcharge (which I had my gas receipt for proof) and two days ago I was hit with an $11 eToll bill. Someone at the Avis location decided to take the car I rented and drive across Carquinez Bridge 3 hours after I returned the car. I cant be the only one this has happened to. Its not about the money its about principle. Why should I continue to rent from Avis if this is going to keep happening?
The Jeep we reserved for a family trip to Tahoe was not available, but they gave us a much nicer and roomier low mileage Toyota 4Runner for the same price. We had to return a day earlier than planned, and they only charged us for the days we actually used the vehicle.
I booked a mid sized SUV and when we arrived they did not have any SUVs. The clerk was very rude and was extremely slow in processing our order. We did end up with a mid size car and the clerk said they would discount the rental because it was not what we ordered but I was not only charged but over charged for the rental.... Poor service! I will never use Avis again.
I have tried to contact AVIS CS since 8/17/2021 with unsuccessful attempts due to long hold times and high call volume. It disappoints me that I have been doing business with AVIS for over a decade and the vehicle I reserved and paid over $600 ( for under 5 days) was in such bad shape and not up to standards! Yes, I have videos and pictures upon pick-up on 8/13, I pre-paid in advance, but I still had to stand in line for 2 hours after my flight to pick the vehicle up. This disgusts me! I urgently need a return call to *********** since I cannot get a hold of anyone and have been trying for 2 weeks almost. Thanks!
Picking up the car was super easy at this oakland location. There were just one problem into my rental. My car didnt have any wiper fluid at all. You would think thats one of the basic things they check in a car, so i had to manually clean my windows at every gas station I stopped at when I fueled up.
Oakland airport representatives were for some reason not very welcoming, firstly had to wait for at least 45 mins for my turn to come to talk to them. I did online check-in which misleadingly says I am all set to just go to counter and pickup keys so I had at max 15-20 mins in my head to go take car and start my journey, which is not at all the experience, the person in counter took my DL and credit card and disappeared for another 15-20 mins without even telling me anything to the point I started to worry if they are even coming back. During overall communication I felt that I am not at all welcomed or some reason they just dont even want to instruct me where my rental is parked, does it have a AWD, if not are they willing to check and change if possible as a AWD was recommended for my trip. There website said mid size SUV should have AWD. When called them to confirm and add a note earlier they said, nothing can be done about it you need to ask this question at counter they can help me out. The person at counter said they dont know anything about it, you go and check once a you take the car. Also the rental was not at all cleaned. Good thing was it was a AWC vehicle so it served my purpose.
Return was slow. One person checking in many cars in line, and he had no ability to give receipt and said to go to desk for receipt after handing me a slip of paper where he hand wrote gas full. Inside, I waited to get receipt. After receiving it saw I was charged a $5 fuel surcharge due to return tank at 14.8 gal and taking it out at 15.2, which was not at all accurate. I turned it in with the guage well above full, but when I took it out it was just below full. Id like at least a.$5 credit!UPDATED 9/28/21: I changed this review from 2 to 4 stars due to excellent customer service response to this review and almost immediate refund of the disputed fuel charge. I actually felt bad for the Avis employee checking in cars since he had just sprained his ankle and was doing the best he could.
There is a single shuttle for all car rental agencies. It took 20 min between shuttles. We arrived to find that the car Avis said was waiting was not in the spot indicated. We then waiting 10 more minutes for the nice lady at the desk to find us a car. I. The meantime, two other people came in to say their cars were also missing. We finally were assigned a car that was dirty and not full of fuel. Im not sure what is happening operationally at the OAK location, but they made an already long travel day much longer. At least the lady as the desk was friendly and just as confused about the missing cars as we all were.
Car was not available that I reserved when I arrived, it also was not clean. Was charged offered a device for 12 dollars a day for bridge access, but was not informed that I could have used the fast track lane and just been charged for the 1 time i was crossing the bridge. What started as a 245 rental ended up being a 350+ rental. Never using Avis again.
Very smooth and easy return. Two very polite agents helped me and my 3 kids with all our bags feel relaxed. Pick up was a bit rocky, though, with only one agent handling dozens of clients. This is not unlike the airline counter, though. All these agencies are understaffed, though their corps are certainly capable of hiring more.
This is my second time renting here and both times i have been charged extra without any notice and havent received a copy of receipt as well, i feel like there is a scam going on with this center that i havent faced elsewhere though i am a regular renter. I had to reach out to corporate office to prove that i am charged wrongly and get refund which most customers wouldnt do by figuring out why and how much they have been charged. The payment for rental gets posted like a week or two later by which most would forget the charge and move on. Last time there was simple a charge of cleaning and late return when i had cleaned my car and turned in time but they had tried cheating me which i proved with data and got refund, the same this time, i got charged for extra fuel when i returned car full tank right before returning.
We have been waiting over 70 minutes in a line 30 people deep, with only two employees working. Surely if you take car reservations you know there is going to be x number of people arriving and you staff accordingly? In the time my husband was waiting, I walked over and rented a car at Hertz in under 7 minutes.Sadly, we prepaid for this rental, but we will not rent here again.
I topped off tank on route back to airport and returned car with fuel indicator well beyond full. Was charged $18.99 refueling fee for 1/10 gallon of gas. Nobody on site to check in vehicle or review gas receipt. Unable to get through to anyone by phone to rectify the situation. Just endless recordings and frustration.
I flew into OAK airport on 2/24 I drove to my hotel in Emeryville. By the time I got there I realized something was wrong with the breaks, there were also footprints all over the interior ceiling of the car. I could not drive my kids or co-workers around in the vehicle and was uncomfortable driving because the breaks were sticking. I called Avis and was told to take it to this location for an exchange. Simple enough. I headed over there the next morning. I was unsure where to park so I parked behind a few other cars at the train station. I then preceded to walk over to the door and open it. It was locked. I waited a second, and a black woman walked over. She opened the door and seemed irritated and frustrated by my presence. I tried to ask her if I parked in the appropriate place, she snapped. She said, I dont have a reservation for you, my customer is waiting, sit on the bench, no one called me about the car. I wasnt sure what to do, I just sat on the bench. I want to explain that at this point her tone is so disgusting, and irritated with me, that I think to myself, it might be better just to drive back to the airport even with the breaks being an issue. I call customer service. As soon as I start talking to someone, she comes out again, and shes like get off the phone, they cant do anything for you. She then tells me she will switch out the car, but still in this nasty tone. I am still thinking to myself, okay, like maybe she is just having a bad day. I get into the car and drive into the parking garage and proceed to the area for returned vehicles. She then yells, not to park there and to park where her last customer had just left from. I do so, get out of the car and walk over to the door, still locked. She comes out, and her mood is still the same. Snappy, rude, and angry. I hand her my contract and the keys. Thats when the class based commentary started. She communicates to me that I am probably lying about the car, that its clear I have never rented a car or dont rent them very much, that I probably cant drive an SUV, that I am basically just trying to get an upgrade. She does this very loudly, very aggressively, I am extremely uncomfortable, in an underground garage, with no way out, unless she lets me out. She tells me I am taking money out her pocket, making her lose money to her business, she says that its her Avis, her business, and I am taking cars from her customers. I ask for the keys back, that I will go elsewhere, she does not give them back, and walks around other cars, I am scared, I dont want a car from this person, I dont trust this person, and she is still not giving me the keys back. When she starts walking towards me I am worried about her intent and back away, I see a stranger in the parking lot and ask her for a way out. I say to the lady to just stop, I dont want anything and leave. She wont give me the keys back, and I dont trust her to do business with her.I eventually get back to the original place where I rented the car, this place. I spent three hours there. I was told they could do nothing, to just call the 1800 number and complain. At that point I was careless, crying, I spoke to a police officer from Emeryville, that encouraged me to keep calling and trying to get it resolved. Avis forced me to do a whole new contract with a higher rate. I was offered two cars both of which smelled like smoke inside. There was no discount offered, and they would not give me money back. I spent the first day unable to drive the car, and the second day trying to resolve the issue, crying and overwhelmed and Avis did nothing. I will be filing a BBB complaint here as well. Save yourself major problems go to Enterprise.
I had to wait over an hour for a car that had been reserved and paid for via Priceline. I was told at the counter that car availability is not guaranteed for 3rd party rentals, which is unacceptable. Advanced payment for contract expectations should not be only for those who go directly to your website; Im sure a substantial amount of your business comes from 3rd party vendors. The car was not cleaned on inside and needed vaccuming. Then when I returned the vehicle a day early, I was told that refunds could come only from 3rd party vendor (SMH!!).
The return process was quick and easy however I waited 1.5hrs to pickup my vehicle even though I had a reservation. The line was ridiculously long. Some staff members were rude and it was hot. It was a horrible experience and next time a have a choice between OAK and SFO it will absolutely be SFO.
When I called to reserve my vehicle, I was asked to pay over the phone (partial payment) only to wait in the longest line to pay another portion. Additionally, I filled up the gas tank until it stopped pumping I did not fill the gas tank because a digital system reads the gas when I arrive, It was wrong the gas was full.
Terrible customer service. I’m a preferred member and had a car booked for 7pm. Our flight was delayed and we arrived to the counter after 8pm to find no one. I received no notification and learned my reservation was auto cancelled only after spending 15 min on hold before customer service answered. I’ve been an avis customer for years, but this may change my tune. Thanks to hertz for saving the day.
Ive had nothing but trouble with Avis/Budget/Payless, and today was no different.I made an online reservation because my car needed to go into the shop. I show up not an hour later to pick up my reservation and am told they have no vehicles available -- none -- in spite of me having a reservation and there being a couple dozen assorted vehicles in the pickup area waiting for customers to go out and grab them. Person at the counter didnt even offer to help me find another vehicle elsewhere, just shrugged and gave me my DL and credit card back.I wouldnt otherwise use them but I get a certain number of days of free rentals per year through them through my lease, but their customer service is so poor and Ive had one of their vehicles literally start shedding critical parts on the highway (great job inspecting your cars, guys!), its not even worth it in spite of being free. My time is more precious than that.
When I returned the car there was no one in the lot checking cars in. A sign said to turn to a radio station for instructions, but the station was only static. I went in and found the preferred office was closed. The main office had one agent working Avis, Budget and Dollar(?). There was a line of 10 people ahead of me. The understaffing, which caused a pile of people to amass during covid, was awful. The wait to return the car was 45 minutes.
This was the absolute worst rental car experience I have ever had. First, the website glitches and changed my rental from returning the car at 10:00 on Sunday, to 10:00 on Friday, charging me $90 for a one hour rental. When I came to pick up the car, the woman helping me was a nightmare. She had to get a manager for us to communicate properly with because she wanted to charge us another $500 for the rental. They eventually got the price down to $238, but when i dropped off the car, I was charged $350. Horrible experience and I will never use Avis again.
I feel Avis is constantly looking for ways to take advantage of their customers. My experience has been 1. having to contact them about toll charges where I have paid the toll and never touched their installed fast track 2. charging $10 per gallon for gas is price gouging!
I was a few minutes late returning the car because of evening traffic so I called in advance to let them know. They charged me 48 bucks for being 30 minutes late and the rental was only 68 bucks. Zero customer service kindness and to top it off they tried to keep my 100 deposit.... SMH
I had a really good experience at this location. I initially booked a car at Fox Rent a Car at the same location and I arrived 3 hours later than the reservation time, to pickup the car. as per their policy, the reservation expires after 3 hours. They also did not have enough cars to help me out. So, I was taken to Avis-Budget counter and the I was helped by a really good employee Nory Garcia. She was extremely helpful and did everything she could to help me get a car that I like at the price I was initially looking for. I usually do not write reviews, but this was one of the best experience and I really wanted to thank Nory for all the help she did.
I needed a rental when I arrived at Oakland International Airport. I pre-booked, yet I didnt have $400 for a deposit due to another company holding ny money for a double booking. Avis helped me get a rental in about 20 minutes, with a reasonable deposit. Thank you Avis, I will be using Avis on a regular basis from now on and on all my business and personal trips. Thanks again.L. R. StevensonSenior Minister
FIRST - I highly recommend the AVIS mobile app and getting signed up in the AVIS Preferred program. By making my reservation on the app and as a Preferred member (totally free & makes pick up quick & easy) the Oakland team were already working on & preparing my request. Wow - this car was so clean, inside and out, it was absolutely done right and to todays standards of sanitizing protocols. The Oakland Airport AVIS provides great vehicles and service. Special shout outs to Zenaida at the counter and her manager, Armando in the lot, and Volkan at Returns. PS: I recommend the Ford Expedition for adult size comfort and a smooth ride.
I arrived by airline and picked up the car one hour earlier than scheduled and when it was returned it was one hour late. I was charged $75 for one hour. After much haggling, the customer service lady cut it in half to $35 (as I recall). For one hour you wish to charge me $75.00, thats ridiculous!! I will not use Avis again unless you credit me with that $35.00!!
I reserved a Mustang convertible at Oakland Airport. When I arrived at the rental counter, I was told they didnt have the car I reserved. After some discussion, I was offered a Camaro convertible as long as I was willing to wait 30 minutes. I agreed. After 40 minutes, I went back to the counter to ask about the car. The counter rep made a flurry of phone calls, but as I was already delayed, I agreed to take a replacement Mustang. I was offered a V8 Mustang, along with $25 off for my trouble. I agreed. I went out to the Mustang, and it turned out to be short a few cylinders, although it did try to make something approaching V8 sounds through the speakers, despite having a 2.3 litre 4 cylinder engine. As we were driving away, naturally, I saw the previously promised Camaro convertible pulling into the lot! To add insult to injury, since I had pre-paid for the rental, I noticed on the bill later that the final total matched the pre-paid amount so I didnt even end up with the $25 credit. Oh well. In the end, the car itself was fine, but I think a reservation should actually hold the car that was reserved, and if a credit is offered, it should actually be given. Thats the reason for the 5 rating.
I was charged for an extra day because no one was at the check out when I brought the car back. I was told I should have waited, well I did wait and no one ever came. It was only 5:30 PM and the car was not due until 7PM. I am not going to ever rent with Avis again if this is not remedied and I was only using Avis for work and pleasure.
I loved pulling up to drop off my rental car and being greeted by my first name, that is top-notch service! The quick and courteous drop-off service was appreciated! The car suited my needs perfectly and was a great deal Avis was running at the time I booked. It was unfortunate that I waited 45 min to get to the counter to pick up the car, however I understand this happens at times due to staffing, however given the car worked out perfectly, I have no complaints.
It never fails every time I rent from Avis I get random charges for things. Tolls. Gas. Non return. I’ve had charges months after I return the car. I had to change my credit card number because they wouldn’t stop charging me. Last one was close to $500 because they said I didn’t return the car yet they also said when I returned it it wasn’t full so they charged me about $20. So if I didn’t return the car then how didn’t I have it filled with gas. Crooked company. Never again
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.I made a reservation for a full size SUV for my wedding day in order to drive my groomsmen and myself to the venue and then my wife and I to the Airport the next day and drop off the car. On the special i went to pick up the car, since I signed up for the AVIS Preferred, the vehicle was inspected for me and was ready as soon as I arrived so I only needed to pick up the keys. As soon as I entered the vehicle I was hit with the smell of smoke! No big deal, the vehicle was inspected for me and I could deal with the smell for 1 day, so I believed that it was already known by the company of the vehicles status. Everything went smoothly and even selected the service to be dropped off at the airport by an Avis driver so that I did not have to take a taxi/uber and be late for my flight. Other than the smell of the vehicle I was very happy with the service. fast forward 2 months later, I receive a random charge of $300 on my credit card from AVIS!!! After many phone calls I finally receive an email with the followup stating that the car SMELLED LIKE WEED AND THAT I AM BEING HELD LIABLE FOR THE VEHICLES CONDITION. Again, the vehicle was INSPECTED FOR ME and I trusted the company to be honest with their SMOKE FREE CARS and not take advantage of their customers! There are 2 reasons why the car smelling like weed would be 100%NOT my fault. #1 i have NEVER smoked the substance in my life and would never allow anyone to smoke it in the same car as me! and #2 I AM ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY! I CAN NOT BE ANYWHERE NEAR THAT SUBSTANCE AND I AM FREQUENTLY DRUG TESTED!this is the first and LAST time i rent from this company. and I advise you to stay away as far as possible because they will find every opportunity to take advantage of you!
Started Sweet, then Sour and finally Bitter. The rental deal was good from Expedia. We got the vehicle we wanted, a 12 seater van, there ends the sweet part.Vehicle was good except the radio turns off intermittently, so no backup camera at times. They charged me for road side assistance. I expect that to be standard on rental vehicles. We agreed to a charge, but they charged me differently, only $8 more, there ends the sour part.I followed their night drop instructions per their website. Filled full tank of gas, left the keys and rental agreement in the car. I even let the security on duty know I am dropping the vehicle 3hrs early. Though my rental was for 2 days, I was charged for 10 days, over billed me $800. After spending an hour trying to reach someone at the branch office, I gave up and opened a case with corporate. 5 days later, no response. I called back, had to speak to supervisor as the regular CS had no clue why my refund was partial. I have to follow up again in a few days and make sure I got the full refund.
I’ve been a loyal Avis customer for over 20 years. In recent years I’ve had some dissatisfaction with the cleanliness & attention to detail with the cars. In my most recent experience I had to return 2 cars before I got one that was clean & free of defects. The first car had the side panel of the front console completely off, posing a safety hazard. The second car had dirty seats that were too dirty to sit in. I had rented one previously that had a filthy back seat & when I reported it they tried to charge me a $75 cleaning fee. Step your game up Avis. Your reputation is on the line.
They didnt have the class of car I had reserved and wanted to rent me something bigger for extra money. I refused, and they made me wait and eventually let me have a slightly bigger car. It all took 50-55 minutes. I would estimate that it took about 45 minutes longer than expected. The car was nice.
Treated us right all across the board! Especially the black lady at the front desk and when we went to get our car. (Ie. Black woman too) i would come back to rent a car for sure. When i came back to drop the car off, it was easy when i finally found it. The young lady with the short hair cut was really sweet as well!
Sign up for Avis Premier and be treated with 5 star service whenever you rent from them! Nice waiting area and your vehicle should be ready for pick up by the time you get to the lounge. One word of advice - dont sign up for add ons without asking how much they are first. I was prompted for shuttle service drop off and agreed to it when told the rental car shuttle only came every 30 minutes, but it was $30 and the rental car shuttle for OAK was there waiting when I dropped the car off. Otherwise, great service with a smile! Will be renting again.
The last cars that I picked up was very dirty like they was brought up out of the back of the warehouse, versus the cars that I rent from Alamo make Avis and Budget looks like a preschool, with that says you all cars needs thoroughly cleaning.thanks and have a nice day
Because you basically steal money from your customers by adding fuel service options, because your staff are untrained in starting the engine of each car returned to get the correct fuel status, and this seems to be a common practice,I have contacted customer service and received no refund for $68.00 charge for a car that was completely full on arrivial at your facility. so your company stole $68.00 from mine and this is going to be made public.
I waited an hour altogether to drop off my car after hours. I got there before closing and no one from the local desk to corporate was answering their phone. All this AFTER I made an online reservation over 10 days ago to drop it off at this time. They had the entrance blocked off and the security guard took a whopping 45 minutes to let me in and the drop off instructions given were different than the ones posted. I am active duty. I cannot afford an extra hour here and there. THATS WHY I MADE THE RESERVATION!
On December 28th 2019 my husband and I picked up a car from Avis in OaklandCalifornia to drive back to Austin Texas. We choose Avis to rent a car from. We thought that Avis was a reputable company. We were devastatingly wrong and thats when thenightmare home. About 4 hours into the trip and while driving down HWY at 70 mph wehad a blowout on the front driver side. The explosion terrified us. We safely made it to the side of the busy highway and began to unload our luggage from the trunk only to realize there was NO tools, NO jack, andNO spare tire. We were beginning to become frantic but eventually found the number for Avis roadside assistance and we began to calm down but unfortunately the chaos continues. We called roadside assistance to get rescued from the side of the road but that was a mistake. As we were speaking to the representative on the phone she proceeds to tell us that we are not listed as drivers and that only my husbands sister is listedas a driver. Because of this, we would be brought to the nearest Avis rental location, 78 miles away, but a replacement car could not be provided because we were not listed as drivers. The rep continues to tell us that my sister in law (we used her major credit card to rent car) could list us as driver but she would need to be present for this to occur. Now this is a problem since his siste is 4 hours the opposite direction and we have a flat tire and another tire with wiring exposed. We quicklyand with great dissatisfaction realized that we could not rely on Avis to fix this situation. After many phone calls we finally found a company with the specific tire and who could assist us to get back on the roadsafely. We thought it would be a good idea to check the other tires. By this time it has grown dark outside so we are using our flashlights on cell phones to check tires. We quickly realize the reason for the blowout isdue to Avis providing a car with tires that are completely worn out. The passenger side front tire had wiring exposed. We could not fathom that Avis would give us a car to drive 29 hours home with dangerously worn outtires. We waited for 5 hours on the side of a busy highway in the dark in the middle of nowhere. We were beyond furious. We spent $680 to fix the death trap and couldnt no longer afford to get a hotel because wehad spent those funds and then some on fixing Aviss problem. So we hadto sleep in the car, taking turns driving back home. I honestly can not think of a worst customer service experience I have ever had. The Avis representative who completed the reservation was fully aware my husband and I were the ones traveling to Texas and she DID NOT list us a drivers. Avis provided a car that was completely damaged and dangerous. The car was missing everything to repair a flat tire and when we reached out for help it was responded with zero empathy. Never in my life will I rent a car through Avis and I will be sure to share my experience with all who intend to rent a car from your company. I need a full refund for the purchased tires and service charges along with a refund for the rental purchase. I feel like that is the LEAST Avis can do to fix this experience. I am so thankfulthat nothing worse happend to my husband and I. This situation couldve been deadly.
Preferred line (office) was closed. We waited for more than one hour to get our car. Called Avis 4 times while waiting in line, was disconnected 3 times. Avis offered a credit on next rental but would not apply credit to the current rental. Current rental was personal travel. Next rental will be business travel.
Once again, we reserved and prepaid online a month ahead. Once again, we arrived at a barely-staffed Avis where both Budget and Avis customers were forced to stand in a ridiculously long line together. Apparently Budget and Avis are actually the same company? Once again, we were told at the counter that the car we paid for (a 7-seater minivan, we were driving 5 teenagers around to visit colleges) was not available, and we could either take the king cab monster truck they had left, or walk. I do NOT understand why companies are not capable of providing a service that you ALREADY PAID FOR, then act like youre being inflexible when you wont just roll with their catastrophic incompetence. Farcical, and something similar happens every. single. time.
This was the worst rental place I have had the experience. Reserved my car 2 weeks in advance only when I showed up that car doesnt exist. Offered me economy car at the premium rate that I have paid. Tiffany the manager has been the most unprofessional person I ever dealt with. She actually told me that I made you wait 50 minutes because I knew I couldnt help you. She then reserved to her employees that she is managing to continuously ask for the next 20 minutes what to do and how to use the software
Make sure to check your bill afterwards because they tried to charge us for a full tank of gas even though we filled the car up prior. They only refunded me 50$ when I got proof of purchase and called corporate. Also, there are a ton of fees they don’t tell you about (roughly another 50$)because it’s an airport rental which is super lame. Just be upfront about how much the thing will cost. It’s so rude to charge me after the fact and say “oh by the way here are all these fees you need to pay the state!” Boo. Booooooo. The customer service at this location was pleasant though.
Getting the car was easy and the employees were kind. I havent had an issue with a rental location at Oakland airport yet. Id be sure to get the insurance if youre able to afford it and just be sure that you understand what your liabilities are when you rent – if you do that its usually fine!
Quick and easy checkout process (relative to others)Gas tank was not full. However, i called Avis and customer service was quick to fix the problem. The only critique: all car rental companies: Renters fill out all their personal information BEFORE getting to the counter. Why do we have to fill out all of the same information??? The pricess is soooo slow. It takes 5 minutes to complete the process with only 1 or 2 reps, it could take over 30 mins if 10 people from the bus get in front of youFix the process!
My wife and I rent from Avis frequently. This location is well below the standard I expect from an Avis location. First of all, we’re Avis preferred and were never sent an email telling us where to pick up our car. So we had to wait in line and deal with a rude counter agent who condescendingly told us where our car was located (preferred desk was closed) which added a good 15min of unnecessary waiting as he didn’t need our ID or information to check out the rental. after returning the car my wife was going to be staying in the area for a work trip, so she needed to rent another car from them under a different reservation. They took over 30 minutes to get her all checked into the new car... the wait was totally unnecessary and the counter staff again showed their complete lack of customer service or urgency in dealing with her rental.
The front desk service is really bad. Today is Friday the lines for Avis cumulated up to 20 meters. There is only one staff providing service on the front deck. The Enterprise beside is much faster and efficient than Avis. We have waited over 30 minutes and only 5 customers were served. It seems that everyone could have some issue and the staff need much time to search in the system. I will never take Avis again.
Waited in line at an unstaffed Avis counter for 10 minutes before asking if anyone was working it. Was told I needed to stand in the stacked Budget line instead. Waited another 40 minutes while the two employees slowly trundled through the people in line. All in all, an incredibly underwhelming and pathetic display of customer service by Avis. Consider me a long time customer (50 plus rentals with them), who is done renting with them...as my experiences with them have become worse and worse.A perfect example of a poorly run company that couldnt care less about their xustomers
When we arrived despite having booked the two mini vans three months in advance they told us they had none available and tried to get us to take a 12 seater Ford. After a long argument and calling Costco (reservation was made through them) Avis then magically had our two 7 seater mini vans! This was a ploy to try offload the 12 seater. We were held up at Avis for almost two hours which is totally unacceptable, please go to Enterprise, they are usually very good!!
Arrived to get the car on 9/21 when I had it reserved through Costco. After waiting in line for almost an hour and not making much progress it became clear they were stalling processing people and there was a problem for everyone getting a car. I called the number on my confirmation paperwork and Avis for Costco confirmed there were no cars in Oakland. I then arranged to pick up the car the next day and took an Uber to the hotel in Oakland where I was staying. Took an Uber back the next day and was able to get a car. Luckily I was staying where I could take an Uber but I needed the car because I was going to Monterey on 9/22. Had I not been staying close by for the night I would have been totally screwed. Total waste of my time money and convenience. Equally angered that the Avis counter people didnt come out to the line of people and explain they had no cars and tried to trouble shoot. That would have been the right thing to do and good customer service. I would have been in line another hour only to come to the same conclusion, no cars and I needed to figure out a plan b had I not figured out what was going on and took things into my own hands.
First time renting from Avis - overall a good experience. The vehicle was in good condition and the entire operation at Oakland was nice as well. Quick shuttle, quick check in and pick up. I loathe upselling, and they were polite about it and not pushy though.Wanted to extend the car and had EXTREME difficulty trying to do so over the phone - it took numerous tries and the automated phone system refused to work. Eventually had to call and talk to the main number, instead of the local rental facility. Was crazy!
We rented and paid for a car online a month early but when we arrived at the airport rental office, there was only one man behind the counter. He was disorganized and could manage the number of customers. So he sent us all at a small outside office and told us someone there would help us. But no one was there. He kept sending us back and telling us to wait. We waited for almost an hour before someone came in and helped us. The staff were rude and completely disinterested in helping solve the backup that theyd created. Wont rent with Avis again.
After signing up as a preferred member my car rental experience with Avis has never been better! The girl at the front desk was very sweet and informative. She personally walked me over to the preferred desk, quickly printed the information for the car and off I went. Quick, Easy, and Hassel Free! Thanks Avis :)
I paid more money and booked a sport Ford Mustang Coupe with hopes that I would have that vehicle (or something similar) to enjoy my trip and bring in the new year. All to arrive at Avis and be given a Volkswagen Beetle which was extremely uncomfortable, small and not sporty nor similar to a Ford Mustang at all. I was given no other option and it was overall a terrible experience, I was embarrassed to have had to drive that vehicle and it’s ridiculous I paid a larger amount of money just to have been mislead.
Reservation and check-in both were done professionally and expediently.SUV was clean, accommodated seating and luggage for 4 adults and baby.Comfortably transported 6 adults and the baby to wineries and a number ofwedding activities.Discount made the price of the car competitive with other rental agencies.Car return was quick and shuttle to airport was immediately available.
I just had the worst experience in my life with this rental company! First they charged me 16 days after my rental, for excessive trash left in the vehicle (which is untrue), then they got smart with me because they could provide pictures, yet they stated they had proof! WARNING!! Take pictures of your vehicle upon return because they will try to get over on you!!! The service representative was very rude on this call. The supervisor the call today 11/9! Will keep me from ever using Avis again! It is unacceptable to speak with ppl as you do! As well as charge for something that never took place! An apology goes a long way and it is upsetting that your superiors can not provide the simpliest thing!
Initially, Caribbean accented male with poor attitude, seemed bothered by the 2 questions I asked. Next, when I got home I realized the smell was marijuana and not just regular renatal car odor. I attempted to return vehicle early but was told by Corporate customer svc the local office would have to resolve. I called the local Oakland Airport location for 2 days; no one answered the phone. I live 60 miles one way so I did not want to waste gas and pay a toll. I eventually just took vehicle back early and took the loss of my money. I think it is part of their business plan to not answer phone and for Corporate to say they cannot do anything.Learn from my mistake, however cheaper they may be do not use them. I will NEVER give them another dime. Horrible, zero Customer Service.
We were very happy with our Avis rental. This was the first time using Avis. We were given free upgrade and an AARP discount. Avis price beat out all other competitors. We were extremely happy with the car, price and ease of dropping off. We will definitely be using Avis again.
I was running late and did not have a chance to fill the car up with gas. I knew it would be more expensive than the average price from a local gas station. I expected $1 maybe $1.50 more. I was blown away when the price was $9.99 per gallon, almost 3X as expensive as a local gas station. I consider this gouging and highway robbery. If I can, I will report this situation to the state.
Our rental had been reserved and paid for in advance. To pick up the car, we had to decide on the type of insurance we wanted. It was not made clear that there were options other than the $50+ option until we prodded the the representative for more info, since $50 for insurance seemed steep for a single day. Rather than laying out the range of options to us, she divulged one option each time we specifically asked if there was a cheaper option. She finally revealed to us that we dont actually need to take any coverage, which was great for us since we already had insurance covering rentals. So we took that option. After printing the contract on the printer from 1998 that took 4 minutes to print, she had put us down for the $17 insurance option. Overall I felt the tactics were much too aggressive and misleading.
Car pickup, initial rental was unbelievably slow for a preselected, prepaid rental. Over 30 minutes. Not a long line, just slow. The vehicle was brand new, all was well, return was easy. Everything was stellar except the time to initiate the rental. The staff were super nice.
Worse customer service I have seen in a long time. No contract modification possible, no refund offered for cancellation. Our client was given the run around from the counter to the main number. The phone rings for ever and doesnt go to voice mail or a live person Do not go to AVIS until they know how to treat their customers properly.
I noticed that the gas tank was not full when I picked up the car, and so the check-out man--at the gate as I left the lot (Larry?)-- looked at it and agreed with me, and then said he would note it and give me a credit for it on my rental. But I dont see any credit for this on my credit card statement. Im getting cheated. The man who checked me in agreed that this credit was to be given, and it was showing apparently on his check-in screen--but again, I see no credit applied to my account. Whats the deal?? Im not giving Avis a good review if this isnt taken care of.
Booked with Avis because we were coming in on a flight that landed at midnight and Avis was supposed to be the only one who would be open until 1am. When we arrived at 11:50, there was nobody there at the desk and we had to wait in line at Budget for an hour to get a car. Horrible experience and I will be taking an Uber next time.
Worst rental experience EVER! I had reserved the car I wanted in advance. After waiting for around 30-40 minutes, Nory wouldnt just give me the car I reserved. She instead kept offering an upgrade instead, to an SUV, knowing the crime rate in the San Francisco area is rampant. I finally relented and took the SUV, and as a result, our vacation was ruined, by thieves breaking into our SUV and stealing our belongings as it sat directly in front of The Cliff House restaurant! The police told us crime had increased due to relaxed laws. GREAT! I assume Nory was aware of the crime rate because she lives there. So, beware everyone! Dont let Avis upsale to you!!! Thanks Avis, for putting your greed ahead of a travelers safety and peace of mind! I will NEVER do business with you ever again!
Very easy and no hassles here. We received a clean car that was nicer than we were expecting (we got a Kia Rio). Check in and check out were super quick and the shuttle bus to/from the airport was timely as well. When I travel to the bay area again, I will rent a car from Avis.
Got the complete run round when we picked up vehicle. They were so confused on what car was in the lot. The clerk wasnt helpful. Car reserved wasnt even available. It took close to 1 hr to get us in a vehicle and wasnt what we reserved and still had to pay for upgrade. Terrible service.
Set a rental through my work for a car at 12:45 am and had our flight delayed by 20 minutes. Our company is Avis preferred. Not only was there nobody to receive us to pick up the car, but when we arrived to pick up the car, the only person there was the security guard. If you are going to advertise that your service is operational till 2am, then make sure you have staff to support it.We were forced to take an Uber to avoid missing work the following day which costed us much more than would have been spent if the company were doing its job. Our time and companies money were wasted.Just note that if youre flying into Oakland no other rental providers will be open either, so dont plan your car till the following day. In our case we didnt have this luxury...
I use Oakland Avis at least once every three months. I feel they are prompt to fix any issues I may have. I wish the staff behind the counter could be as energetic and fun as the folks outside shuffling the cars. I get more smiles and attention to needs in the lot than at the counter. I like the drop off experience because its quick.
This was our first time using Avis Preferred. We walked right passed the line, looked up on the board that had my name on it. The board asked me to go to a counter which had no line. Because I was a first time customer they needed a pic of my drivers license. 1 minute there. Walked a few feet to the car. Threw the bags in and drove to the exit gate. 30 seconds there. And off we went to see the grand baby! Upon return we followed the signs pulled in, got check out in less than a minute and off we went to the terminal. There could not have been a better experience!!! Every body treated you well with smiles on their faces! Thanks AVIS.
The worst rental company I have ever seen . We were humiliated , insulted and in fact there were moments when we felt the Manager is going to be physical . Never go with Avis .Trust me you will regret. We were surprised the way the manager behaved with us even if the fault was from Avis/Expedia side . Thumps down for Avis .
I rented a car from here October 8 and returned it on October 10th. On November 2nd I got charged on my credit card for $150 cleaning fee. Im really pissed off just for the simple fact it was damn near a month ago that I had that rental car smh. Not to mention the associate named Carla who works there was so rude but how am I getting charged for this and someone rented the car after me ?? It doesnt make sense to me and according to Carla they have an offsite cleaning company who is supposed to have sent a letter out regarding the cleaning fee which as of today I still have not received. So yes I do agree with some of these previous posts because they are definitely trying to play me out of some money.
First time using Avis. Was never told how insanely expensive the gas would be if I didnt bring it back with a full tank. The slip you receive has tiny print as well. I paid for a Jaguar F-Pace Sports SUV but was given a Landrover Discovery (not remotely similar, one is off roader SUV and the other is a luxury sports SUV). The car was dirty and smelled odd as well. Overall an awful experience, wont be using them again for my future business trips in Oakland.
Car agent didnt understand how to handle a pre-pay rental that I booked online before hand. Double charged me for the rental, and said she would personally call and get one of them removed. She never did, and had to call myself to get the reimbursement put through a month later.
For the past few years I opted to use cut rate rental options. I returned to this Avis and could not have been happier. I was able to get the vehicle I needed for my specific need; it was clean, SMOKE FREE, plenty of plug-ins and reasonably priced. The staff at OAK airport are the best!
Worst experience ever.Waited for over 2 hours for our vans to be ready even though we reserved them far in advance.Employees were dismissive and aggressive. When we returned the van, we were charged a gas fee for a whole tank when we should have only been charged for a half tank. That was an additional $120 that was not ours to pay. After multiple customer service calls and being passed around from agent to agent we still have no solution made. One agent hung up after I explained the problem. Please dont give these people your business.
This Avis has always been great. Being a Preferred customer, Ive always been treated with warmth and professionalism. This past experience, I was given an suv. then I saw an orange mustang a few stalls away. long story short, Steven in the Preferred office upgraded me and I was on my way to the Cincinnati Bengal game at SF in my team color. Kinda goofy, but I loved it and Steven was very friendly and helpful.
I had a great rental experience at Oakland International Airport car rental facility. Walking the lot to my vehicle, upon inspection with a AVIS team member, the initial rental had an issue with a tire. I was immediately walked to another vehicle and that one was removed quickly of the lot by a maintenance staff member. On the return, my flight was leaving from San Francisco International. The young ladies at the counter recommended dropping the car at SFO to save time and make my flight, as opposed to taking the Rental Car Shuttle to BART. Got to SFO, smooth drop off.
The Van I rented had no rear turn signal lights! This is extremely unsafe and I didnt realize it until I was several hundred miles away and pulled over by law enforcement! Luckily they didnt give me a citation when I explained it was a rental car. But this is inexcusable and could have caused a serious accident!
Finding my card had been charged after they confirmed that my employer would be direct-billed was annoying. The amount of time it took for me to sort it out and get reimbursed due to Avis staff being ignorant (or lazy, perhaps) and not ensuring the change of billing was correct, was infuriating.
Excellent counter service at pick up but terrible toll free line staff who dont speak english and are unable to connect you with someone who does.Pick up was great in Oakland but the airport managed bus transportation system at the Sacramento airport for car returns is inadequate, poorly managed and exremedy slow.
As an Avis preferred member I expect the car ready to be picked up without any changes in the rental agreement and not find suddenly on my bill a position Roadside Assistance Plus. The rental was prepaid. There was no agreement about any roadside assistance. At Avis Oakland airport I presented my credit card which shows clearly that I am a member of the German ADAC, an automobil club, that lets me enjoy based on international agreements, also the benefits of a AAA roadside assistance. Even the blue white read AAA colors, are printed on the back of my credit card. How can they charge me then another 8 Dollar per day for their own roadside assistance, which, when you read comments in the web, is anyway useless.I dont expect to find on the bill of a prepaid rental a position like several charges, what seems to be an AVIS joker to add randomly any amount to a prepaid rental. The bill is unprofessional and wrong, e.g.:- Roadside Assistance Plus 1 @ 45.86 sums up to 145.86 USD- VRF Charges 18 @ 1,79 sums up to 32.22 USDThe second position would make mathematically sense, but is not justified since in the prepaid rental agreement this charges are mentioned as being already included. I dont expect to find even more positions that are supposed to be include already!Me personally, I feel cheated. Very unprofessionally! I already complained to Avis, mentioning, that my credit card together with my automobil club membership not only offers roadside assistance but also legal insurance. But even after more than a week, there isnt a reaction from AVIS. AVIS obviously doesnt care! After getting a wrong bill and no reaction to a complaint after a week I changed my initially positive review on google!
Horrible customer service! From picking up to dropping off. Picked up a car from oak to drive to az for 1 day rental. I called the az office bc of the az time change and they said it would be no problem if if its returned within 24hrs for 1 day rental. I was 30 min over bc of the time change but 30 min early CA time and they charged me another days rental. Az avis says oakland office should be able to correct it no problem bc its their contract but the Oakland Avis is saying no. $250.00 extra. Ridiculous
Wow, I have been so pleased with the quality of cars and the level of service I receive from Avis. I rent from various Avis locations when ever I travel and I have noticed a level of consistency that I did not find with Hertz or Enterprise.I look forward to continuing renting from Avis.Randy Wiggins
Arranged for an f150. Before I went to pick it up I tried to call and confirm it would actually be an f150. The local (510) goes to some outsourced call center that has no access to the local inventory. When I asked for the local number they gave me the same (510) number I had just called. I rolled the dice and went down there. Bad call. No F150s and comparable was a tiny little Nissan truck, certainly not its equivalent. Total waste of time. Oh and to top things off the people at the counter could not refund me I had to call an 800# to yet another outsourced call center to get my money back after having already wasted an hour and half of my day + a $32 rount trip Uber ride to and from the airport. #FAIL
One person working and 20 people on line/ All other rental car desks had 3 + workers. We stood on line for 90 minutes and then were told like everyone else that the car we reserved was not available. We had to take a 2 door charger with no muffler !!!!! People on line with us were furious. Thurs morning at Oakland airport,
Avis does not make it easy to receive receipts via email. You send them to me with a link on email and when I click that link nothing happens. Why? Because Avis kicks me out of my account periodically. Not sure why this happens but I’m extremely dissatisfied with Avis right now.
Outgoing service seemed fine. Even return was simple and quick. Just do not make any mistakes because customer service is terrible. Non existent actually. I accidentally kept the fob and I cannot seem to contact a customer rep to find out what to do. The office phone just rings and rings.
Nice cars. Terrible customer service. Third time in the row dealing with a rude employee. I accidentally pulled into the wrong return lane. Instead of simply directing me where to go she yells at me and looks at me like I’m crazy. I don’t know how you keep hiring these types of people around the country it’s ridiculous.
I was charged for a Sirius radio that I didnt asked for. The agent just told me The Sirius radio is activated in the car, so I was led to believe that it was offered to me, as at no moment did she mentionned a cost for it. I then signed the contract believing that all was in order, and then the radio was charged in extra when I got back. When I went back to th office to complain about it, I was left with a Dont you read what you sign? You have signed, so theres nothing we can do about it. Absolutely unacceptable,
I love getting my business rentals here. You dont have to wait long they are always very clean and up to par . You dont have to deal with nasty attitudes and dirty cars at this location .The neiborhood locations have a lot of personal problems and bad attitudes and im too busy to deal with people who have issues Id much rather come to the airport and get good business and a smaile because every time I come to this location Im happy
Had a terrible experience, I had to go back twice to get my reserved vehicle. They didnt have my reservation on time, instead of telling the truth, they had replaced it with a downgraded different vehicle, which caused inconvenience, for two days. The workers or personnel werent friendly. ENTERPRISE WOULD BE SUGGESTED.
Nothing because this people lied to me and first person which is the manager Tiffany is the one who lied to me they charged me one extra day in fairly that I didnt use. The thing is she Tiffany the manager is the one who told me she wont but she did she lied to me I will never rent a car from place ever again
Very nice experiance ,at avis oalkland airport location ,it was easy in and out ,erika was so kind ,she offerd her help at all times ,she gave us a van instead of a little car that we pocked with no extra charge ,thank you erika ,and for sure next time we are going with avis .

2022-05-16The service at the counter was good. The lady at the counter did a good job - not sure if she was working with Avis or one of the other 2 companies for which the lines were for.Car return experience was easy and smooth.I wish the car they gave me was cleaned more thoroughly.

2022-06-20The Oakland airport Avis/Budget is one of the worst customer experiences Ive ever had—not just for travel experiences. Im a preferred member, so I went to the preferred booth. My name was listed on the board but it listed no car to pick up. The preferred member booth was closed. I had been trying to check in and pick my car on my Avis app since my flight landed. It did not work. It kept giving me a phone number to call, so I called it while still standing outside and they said they couldnt help. An employee saw me standing outside the preferred booth and told me this booth was closed and that I needed to go inside. The line inside was extremely long. So I asked if I needed to wait in the line since I was preferred, he said yes I needed to go wait inside. So after waiting in line for an HOUR, I saw a couple come inside a skip the entire line. I politely asked why they got to skip the line and they said they were preferred. I told the woman working at the desk that I was also preferred and I was told I had to wait in line. The woman working at the desk was extremely rude and instead of offering an apology or anything, she rolled her eyes and told me “it’s not my fault you waited in the line”. I wasnt insinuating it was her fault, but there could have been a better process for the preferred members, such as a sign or a separate line indicating where to go. There was NO indication, no sign, no announcement, no nothing making a separate line for preferred members. Her response to me was uncalled for. Plus, the gentleman outside told me I had to wait in the line. I have never in my life had to wait more than 10-15 minutes for an Avis rental car, even not as a preferred member. Usually there’s no wait. I waited an hour and it was a mess in there. People kept coming back inside. This was an asinine experience all around. As a family who has used Avis for many years, I question whether I will continue to book with Avis or not. I’m not looking for a resolution from this experience, I hope that you will think twice before booking here and also hope that Avis will provide some support to the Oakland Avis/Budget team to improve their systems in place.

2022-06-02I should receive a copy of my receipt without having to log in or download the Avis app.Hi Susan,What is Avis going to change in their current process and procedures to make sure that each customer receives a receipt for the payment of the rent a car?I was willing to accept that it would be emailed to me but when I needed to create an Avis account and log in that is just a bridge to far.

2022-03-06I am an avis regular. For the past two times my car was not ready and had to stand in line behind people. I think I have had problems here more than not. Cars are good. Return was good except once when a locked car blocked the entrance and no one knew where the key was. Manager had to come and open the out gateThat was at 4:30 am.

2022-05-23Preferred desk clerk at pickup had an attitude and was annoyed when I asked if she could look up my Preferred number. She couldnt find it and said we would have to go inside. Waited in line over 45 minutes. At return they could not provide a receipt since the car checked itself in. She said I would get an email receipt. I didnt. When I found receipt online it had an additional fuel charge of $16.98. Be careful upon return that they confirm what your extra charge for gas will be.

2022-05-27Your agent on the morning of the 21st at OAK was great! After my wife helped repeat her announcement to customers about preferred customers needing to check the board outside, she offered us a free upgrade! The fancy, new ride definitely made our first trip to Napa more enjoyable, and confirmed why I always choose Avis for my rentals: selection, price, and now, customer service!

2022-06-27I had a very bad experience with the car I rented. The engine light turned on after driving from the airport to Courtyard Marriott hotel. I came for work this was a very big inconvenience for me. I ask assistance for replacement but the customer service said that Avis is close and I should drive it back to the airport in the morning. I told the customer service that I had to be at a facility for work at 6am that I need a reliable car to go to thw facility. She mentioned she cant do anything other than me dropping the car back to the rental lot at the airport to get a replacement. I ask her to put a ticket or something that way I can go to the facility. Customer service said she cant do that. I had no choice but to drive to the facility that morning. I called again hoping someone can help me but I got the same answer. I finished my shift at 4pm on my way to the airport the car stop in the middle of the road. They got a towing and ask me to ride with the tower back to the airport. I had to be at the airport then within the hour and they dp not know when the tower is coming. I insisted to get a rideshare because i cant miss my flight. This inconvenience could have been prevented had they have a better service. I do not recommend this rental company at all. They even charged me over what I am suppose to pay.

2022-05-10Like renting here for the convenience to the airport. Unfortunately, every time I have rented here, the cars (which have a sticker inside marking them as clean), are dirty. I rented two cars within one week that both had mechanical issues that required returning and was then swapped into a car with physical damage. The staff is not friendly and no accommodations were offered in lieu of the car issues.

2022-05-08We arrived slightly late for our Avis car pickup yesterday. Charnika was incredibly accommodating all around and in addition even spoke to her manager to allow us to drop our car off at SFO for no extra charge. It’s these small acts of kindness that really bring joy to people, thank you so much Charnika and team. You were wonderful ❤️

2022-07-13I called 2 different times, weeks before my reservation, to make sure we could get the car no matter when we landed. I was assured, on BOTH occasions, that someone would be there no matter how late it was. I explained that we were flying in to Oakland and that the car rental location was not within the airport and that we were landing at 1am. I was told both times that the employee would stay until we picked the car up. When we landed I took the shuttle to the avis office. It was empty. The security guard informed me they opened at 7am. My family and I were now stranded at the airport for over 5 hours. When I called the customer service number I was told very rudely that no one would EVER tell me that. No way would ANYONE say that. I cant tell you how rude he was! Basically cake me a liar. Would do nothing to help and kept cutting me off, telling me how wrong I was. The clerk at the desk was awesome and sweet. However, after this interaction we will never rent from you again and I will tell anyone and everyone not to. We lost money on our hotel that night and nothing was done by avis. Had we known no one would be there we wouldve made other arrangements. We spent the night sleeping in baggage claim only to find out, over the phone, that avis had a CANCELED OUR RESERVATION when we didnt show up. He even said well, we will redo the reservation IF WE EVEN HAVE A VEHICLE. I have never been treated as poorly as I was that day. I work in customer service and I would be fired if I spoke to a customer that way. I was appalled. I was also out 250 for a hotel room we couldnt get to as well as a nights sleep. Ridiculous. Never again avis.
