I have rented a Chevy Malibu from Alamo on 2nd July from SJC airport. The car was in good condition but the return experience was not good. I literally filled the gas till it came out of the tank. Some gas even fell out of tank. This was 1.5 miles away from the return location. When I returned the car they charged me for 1.5gallons of gas. I told them the tank was already full. I would have filled it more, if I can, but there wasnt any room in the tank. They were llike, we get the data from satellite and we follow that. I asked them to open the tank cap an they can see the fuel clearly. But they were not interested at all and will only follow the satellite data. Never taking Alamo again .
I pre-submitted my final contract information for my trip to San Jose on April 15th. I was instructed to go directly to the Parking Area and that I DID NOT have to go to the Ticket Counter. At the Parking Area a sign advised me to go to the National Dispatch Booth. Which, I did.At National I advised the man that I was an Alamo customer and the sign said to go to his booth. He asked for my signed contract. I showed him my Pre-registration contract with Bar Code and he then asked who I rented from. I told him I rented through Costco but the agency was Alamo. He told me I needed to go to the Ticket Counter and get my SIGNED Contract. He would not listen to me anymore.I went to the Ticket Counter and showed your Agent my Contract with Bar Code. She was very nice and told me he was incorrect and for me to go back to the Dispatch Booth. She then called ahead and got him on the Same Page as your system. We did a lot of walking for NOTHING.
The staff was really really rude to me and my family. He even lied about the mileages for the two cars. He claimed that it was both 50,000 miles but one of the cars was actually 15,000 miles. After we confronted him he even said that we are too sensitive and its about the same. Would not come back again
My experience was largely great, especially thanks to Rami at SFO airport. One of his colleagues at the San Jose airport attempted to upsell me on several items, including the gas refill option that, ultimately, I did not need. Rami and his supervisor recognized this and removed the charge, without my needing to request that they do so. I appreciate the integrity and customer focus that Rami provided.
Overall good experience with most of my queries being answered while taking vehicle and absolutely quick return formalities. The only issue I has was that I paid all the tolls on my own however my card was charged for toll amounts even after a month passed by. I have been taking Alamo rental for the last 4 years whenever I visited the US and the process has been simple and easy, except for the experience with the Toll charges on my last visit.
My plane arrived late and I got to counter 30 minutes after they closed. It was only 10:30 pm I think. Their website said someone would wait if plane was late. No one there. Called customer service, too bad so sad. Luckily I had a brother who drove 40 minutes to pick me up, but what if I hadn’t? I would have been stranded.
4th rental with Alamo this year, absolutely excellent experience every time. Skip the counter is A MUST. You will walk by a line if people waiting for the desk agent to help them. This particular location was great, right across from the terminal zero waiting. Paid for the luxury car category and ended up with an Audi Sportback (from Nationals inventory) which was a lot of fun.
It was the best part of my trip! Very easy to rent a car here, they even did not take the deposit for it. Takes about 15 mins. Later when someone broke the window they quickly assisted so the car was replaced in an hour. Luckily, I had additional insurance for windows.
We were traveling for work and vacation while visiting colleges with our 15 year old and our 2 year old. We had no idea about the shortage. We originally were renting with Hertz through our AAA membership, but it was a nightmare and they closed upon our arrival. I was able to make a reservation using the online app. The attendant saw us struggling with Hertz and helped us with a better price and upgrade once he noticed that we had the kids. I wanted to cry and he made us feel better. Unfortunately, with all the chaos at the San Jose Airport ( there was a Standford graduation we didnt know about) he missed the detail that we were flying out of Reno. I also didnt notice until the next day. We called an had them change it and because of the shortage and stateline crossing it had to be done at different level. Eventually we had two people help us out. Finally Chris, was able to discount our return and it was amazing customer service over the phone. I always rent with Alamo and the one time I didnt it was a nightmare. They always take care of me off orders and on orders ( I am an Officer in the Navy Reserve) They have the best rates, the best service and the best customer appreciation discounts and best cars!!!! Lesson learned!!!
The Alamo at the San Jose airport was very convenient (only a short walk from the baggage claim), the employees were friendly and helpful. We got the style of car we reserved without delay and the car was clean and had no problems. Check-in was equally easy. Would definitely rent here again.
A little busy to be a Monday and holiday. Quick and easy pick up. Book online to take care of everything. Go inside to counter have drivers license and credit card ready. They do the paper work you go out pick up your car from the lot. Its usually any car in the same class if cars. Go to the exit show paper work and youre good to go
Best experience ever. Front desk folks are friendly and fun, and they took care of us professionally and efficiently. The short lines helped, as did their having exactly the car we wanted. A bit of a hike to get to Alamo, but it was fine. The three workers up there saw I had my hands full with my son, and they walked us through the process, helping us choose just the car that would be perfect for our three day trip. Manager Chris C. was the best of all, super savvy and talked with us for the perfect amount of time
I rented a car at the San Jose, CA airport using the Costco Travel website. The car was ready when I arrived, the car was clean, and the gas tank was full. The Alamo attendant was very professional and helpful in directing me to the car. The process was fast in obtaining the car. I would highly recommend Alamo.
First time I rented a car from Alamo, booked thru a 3rd party website.Waiting line was just a few minutes, and the process was quite smooth. Took just 5 minutes, and the job was done. The staff was not rude, but was also not really friendly. Especially after going upstairs where I could choose between 3 cars, the lady was not so friendly when I asked which one was a 4x4.Overall, great experience, amazing car at a very good rate!
The employees in San Jose airport were very easy to talk to and were always willing to help. But, they have been set up to receive grief by not having enough employees to work the counter. It took me almost 45 minutes to get to the counter. You would think that isnt to bad but when I got in line there were 3 customers ahead of me. Now the computer tellers were down so you couldnt use them. The young lady at the pick up point was second to none. But I had to wait to wash the car and get it up to me. By the time I got the car it was 2 hours past my pick up time, and my plane had even come in early and I had no baggage. When Alamo is charging per hour on the second day, my time with the car had been limited, and I believe if Alamo would charge when the car is actually leaving the rental facility be better for customer relations. Instead the customer 20 days before arrival has to guess when they are picking and dropping off the car. When I dropped the car off which was 15 minutes past 5:00 I was going to get charged another $10.00. I looked at her and she was the nicest person. I then explained what happened at the front end of the rental and she said sorry and reduced my bill to the original. I think Alamo is very lucky to have employees like this in San Jose because if they did not, I wouldnt be renting again from Alamo. I also believe that it is very smart for Alamo to give that right to the attendant to address this issue but the stress to the customer is really unneeded. Keep it simple, here is the time you started driving and here is the time you dropped it off and all by automation. I think it would be pretty simple to do. Alamo, be a little more above the rest and give some leeway for customers and really start coming into the computer age by checking cars in and out, not by what was ordered but what actually the customer is using. But then again you wouldnt have all of the late time money. Over all a great rental. The car was wonderful, preformed well and was well worth the price. Every time I rent from Alamo the cars are really worth the money. The 5 stars are for the employees and car. It would be far less if it was on the process.
Alamo makes it so easy to rent a car - their customer service folks actually answer the phone and are so courteous. We were able to make changes online to our reservation before we picked it up and the car was sparkling clean when we arrived. Would definitely use them again!
My car rental experience at Alamos in San Jose Airport was extremely easy and pleasant. As a regular client, they even accepted to give me a free upgrade and helped me select the best car in that category. There advice was the right one. I really enjoyed driving my rented car to the last moment.I would have given them a full five star except for the delay in issuing the printed bill while returning the car, and the back and forth I got from them , in phone calls and emails, to confirm the time I returned the car, and the amount of the rental fee.I wouldnt take this against them because I rented several times from this facility and they are very efficient and helpful. They explained that this was due to the introduction of a new system.
I love using rentals in San Jose. So easy!Returns are the same. Just a walk across the crosswalk and you are there.Alamo is always the product I use. Their service is wonderful. The cars are for the most part excellent, newer models.Always a good selection. However, this last trip, our car was very very dirty on the exterior! Interior was very clean. The windows were the primary issue. They were so dirty they were glarey and the side mirrors were very spotted with water and dirt, we had to grab a few napkins from the hotel to wipe down the interior and exterior of the windshield and side mirrors. Then it was much easier and safer to see properly. We noticed a little grime in the parking garage when we chose the car and commented, but the representative that helped us didnt do anything about it. Probably didnt have any access to help, not his fault.PLEASE MAKE SURE THE WINDOWS AND SIDE MIRRORS ARE CLEAN!And thats my only complaint in years of using Alamo. They are great, excellent prices too!
The car we rented from Alamo was a 2019 Toyota Camry SE. It was a nice car with low mileage. As usual from my last few rentals at Alamo the inside windows were not very clean and I had to clean the front windshield. It is not apparent until you are in the sunlight and to return to get another car or have them cleaned is not worth the hassle. I do not like the fact that they disable or order the cars without all the safety features such as blind spot monitors, etc that are standard on that model and others. This seems to be the normal for that to happen. It would be in their best interest to have all the safety features available.
I used Alamo first time from the San Jose airport and due to convenient location I loved it, cuz get your bag and cross the road to the rental cars building. Only thing I checked in online and my paper work was done online but still I end up being in the long line, I really wish they could have a separate line for those who are ready to pay at the counter and leave. This way they can encourage everyone to try to finish their paperwork before get to the counter.I got SUV with the great price and service, only thing I keep getting a signal low washer fluid beeps which was little annoying but it can happen with any other rental company. Return was more efficient and more friendly. Yes I will like to go back to Alamo again and hoping I dont be in the long lines again, Thank you Alamo
Rented a full size car at San Jose Airport for a week and returned it at San Diego Airport. The price was great and customer service was exceptional at every stage except at the very beginning where the agent at the car rental counter seemed least interested in his job. Once i got to the actual location where all cars are parked, i was given a choice to select any vehicle and the agent was very patient with us given that we had an 18 month old. We didnt like the car after driving it for 24 hours and decided to exchange it with something else. I stopped by at the San Francisco Airport and they provided me even more choices than San Jose Airport. The agent was courteous enough to not charge me for the gas used during the initial 24 hour period. The San Diego airport location agent was very helpful and brought us a luggage trolley as well since we had too much stuff including the car seat and stroller. The final receipt came out to be what was told in the beginning. Very satisfied with the Alamo and highly recommend them.
I was shrugged off for aggrevating cashier/ management ( I guess) to apologies for arriving while he placed money in drawers. I felt someone needed to apologize after his snippy self serving statement of it would be a minute . Which he delivered with all the malice of a person who is to good to deal with others mistakes.( like showing early)
Rented my car through Costco and when Alamo pulled up the info they did not apply the discount therefore charging more than what I reserved. Was told that whoever that pulled up my rental agreement at Alamo did not transfer over the discount code therefore the rate was higher. I would think all of Alamo employees are trained better since they probably do a ton of business from third party websites to them. How someone forgot to transfer discount code is beyond me! Took couple phone calls to clear up the issue and still waiting on my credit. Still a hassle to experience.
I was pulled over by CHP because the rental car was reported stolen. I was fortunate enough the officers trusted the paperwork I had showing the rental was legitimate. I called their customer support line who didnt seem to care. They told me a supervisor would call me back, and no one ever did. 0/10 would not like getting pulled over for no fault of my own again.
1st time to do car rental with Alamo. Their website is easy and clean to use, just take a couple of clicks then done. The car pick up is good also, only thing is the staff is always trying to selling more of promoting the upgraded car and buying more insurance, which is not necessary for my case. Overall competitive price, various of car options, and convenient to pickup and drop off at SJC.
Alamo has been my 1st choice for years. The online system was excellent and simple. This experience began at San Jose International. This is the only time I have not rated a 5 the reason being. Reserving on line can have a surprise inside such as .. Picture of a KIA Soul (which I thought I reserved) but the fine print said or Similar. The arrival was perfect all the online prep paid off. At car pick up in the garage I was the ONLY customer with two attendants. One of led me to a couple of full sized cars. Not what I wanted mainly because I needed to be able to get a wheelchair in and out of it. The attendant left me with the car of my choice but …. but.... I decided to upgrade and she was not happy about that. The heavy sigh (with attitude change) told me all I needed to know. Sensing the immediate status change of the transaction the other attendant stepped in and took over. She was fantastic as she took me to a Jeep Cherokee and it was perfect. I cost her about 2 minutes of time with NO other customers and Alamo got an extra $25 a day. To me the upgrade was seamless and very professionally handled by attendant #2. In summation.... Alamo gets a 4 star, attendant #1 gets a 1star primarily for showing up to work that day and attendant #2 gets a full 5 stars more if I could.
I have rented from Alamo a handful of times with no problems. However the last two times have been awful to say the least. The first, onJune 19th, I traveled to North Carolina and rented a car for 4 days. The trip had to be extended so I tried to contact Alamo customer service; my phone call was never returned after numerous tickets were placed. Basically Alamo was not willing to extend at the same rate. I had to pay an ADDITIONAL $175 for less than 24 hrs more. The second rental was this past weekend, pick up Friday and return Monday. Upon arrival they told me it would be rental cost + an additional $200 dollar hold to proceed. I can honestly say that has not been the case in the past. Though they claimed it has always been $200. I only kept the reservation because it was too late to try and get something last minute. Let me also say the car smelled of cigarette smoke, which I thought was not allowed in the rentals anymore. I have learned my lesson, the next rental car will not be with Alamo no matter how much I can save.
I checked the rates with several different companies and Alamo was by far the most reasonable. We arrived at the airport around midnight and we were taken care of immediately by a gentleman at the National desk because the Alamo representative was taking care of someone else. Picking out our car in the garage was easy and the return was amazingly quick and smooth. Alamo is our new go to rental company. We could not have asked for a better experience.
Found great deal for 4 day rental online. easy to find car rental center at San Jose airport and quick pick up of car. we had 3 cars to choose from and it was in great shape; clean, quiet and comfortable. return was just as easy. great signs to direct to drop off location. final payment a breeze. in and out to make our flight in less than 5 minutes.
We reserved an economy car for our trip because of the gas mileage. They gave us a full size suv with 3rd row seats. NOT fuel efficient. NOT given notice.Apparently we showed up 2 hours ahead of time for the day change and we were told that if we wanted to have our reservation now, we would have to pay an extra 100 dollars or wait 2 hours in the airport and get our car. We wheeled our luggage back to the terminal and sat for 2 hours and then wheeled our luggage back to find they car was not the economy car we reserved (thats why you reserve things). We ended up paying full price for the suv and spent more on gas as well. The lady at the desk didnt care or even want to discuss the reasoning or ask a manager. This was very poor service especially knowing your customers are tired from traveling all day and just want to go to the hotel. Not sit in the terminal.Really Alamo?? The car is there. Not the one we reserved but it was there and we had to sit in the terminal for 2 hours or pay $100 more?? We were warned that on our return, if we were even a few minutes late that they would be charge an extra day so dont be late!Such a disappointing start to our vacation. I guess Ill use National or Avis or any other company next time.
I selected the Skip the Counter option and went straight to the 6th floor. I started walking towards the area with Economy cars. I was greeted by one of the Alamo gentlemen. He walked me to my car & put my suitcase in the trunk for me! GREAT service - he was very kind & professional. Check out at the exit booth took a bit longer b/c I was told to go through the National line instead of Alamo b/c Alamo was backed up. But the National rep did get me checked out in fairly good time; not as fast as when I have gone through the Alamo line. When I returned the car, all went very well. Very fast. The receipt was for the exact same price as I was given when I reserved the car. I plan to rent from Alamo again and again.
The rental car was clean, ready on time, and a nice model. Upon returning the rental car, I was greeted by an agent with a big smile and friendly demeanor. No muss, no fuss and I was on my way to catch my flight. I got great service from the agent at the Alamo 1-800 number as well when I had to modify my reservation.
I looked up reviews because the prices between several of the rental companies were pretty much the same. Alamo had the best reviews , so I went for it. Smooth reservation process, LOVED being able to sign in online and print rental paperwork from home and skip the rental counter at the airport. Went directly upstairs to pick up my car. Great service from the attendant...she knew the cars well that I was picking from. All together smooth process!
First, I made a mistake on my booking, made it for 6am when wanted 6pm which without any coaxing Alamo gave us the existing rate. Second the young lady at the car rental booth helped us get the vehicle we wanted by seeking the other vehicle out. Third on return we needed wheel chair for wife, instead of making us wit they drove us to the terminal. Alamo from this point forward will be my preferred rental company. This company considers its clientele. Thanks and God Bless Alamo for their kindness and customer value.
The Alamo rental company tried to charge me for insurance by giving wrong information. I have Amex Premium rental car protection through my Amex card which provides Primary protection. The agent at the counter didnt agree and wanted me to get Alamo insurance.I got a SUV and as soon as I came out of the airport, I noticed a crack in the windshield. When I went to get that replaced. the agent at the Alamo/National return location said they have to file an incident report since I didnt get insurance from Alamo. The manager then came and said its not my fault since I just took the car. Every chance they get, they try to rip off the customer and not at all being polite and friendly to the customer. I will stay away from Alamo/National.
Economy was not available, but Compact was just fine. Car was clean and had only 5000 miles on it. Check-in was fast and checking the car at return was even faster. The clerk at check-in was very friendly and didnt mind that I asked her to repeat what she said a few times(my hearing aids arent the best). What else could you ask for?
Finding the rental site was really easy. The agent was very friendly, helpful, and processed my order quickly. I had a minimal wait. Upstairs on the 6th floor, the Alamo car site was easy to find, and the employee showed the cars available for me to choose from. He made sure I was comfortable with the controls and features.Check in was very quick and easy, too.
The customer service persons were courteous and efficient. The car was unsatisfactory: there was no windshield washer fluid for cleaning the outside, and the inside of the windshield must have been wiped with a dirty rag - hard to see though it. The right rear view mirror was so covered with dried water spots that it was unusable.
One of the worst rental car experiences ever. Only one car option was available in the fleet category (even with reservations several months in advance!), and it was awful. Higher price than quoted online at the desk for no reason other than market changes, and staff who would rather die than deal with you. Had to use their lost and found system when I left a roll of film here, and to ship across two states it was $30... for one roll of film! Never using Alamo again exclusively for this locations awful treatment.
Arriving in San Jose from an international flight was a breeze! In a few minutes I was on the shuttle form the airport to the rental center and went to pick up my luxury car. I had done the skip the line feature which is amazing. However there was just one car in my category and I was not that happy with it. The agent walked all the way to the other area and arranged for a Cadillac to be brought for me! Thats what I would call true service.
Wow, Im surprised at how easy it was to rent at Alamo. Im a first time customer and they said all I had to do was go from my plane directly to pick out my car and they were right. I was able to add a driver at no additional cost as well. The San Jose Alamo staff that greeted me were great. I rent cars a lot and am still surprised how easy it was.
Very DISAPPOINTING experience.I had reservation from December 28, 2019 to January 1, 2020.I had pre-paid for this reservation for $306.66 and had a print out for that with me. Upon returning the vehicle on January 1, 2020, the attendant gave me receipt and it was for $1000.44. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed and shocked to see this big change in the amount. The attendant was totally rude and did not want to help or look at my original receipt. He asked me to go to counter and at the counter, I had to plead to the associate to correct THEIR mistake. This associate took more than 20 minutes which included call to his manager (who was not on location) to change the erroneous charge and again this associate also could care less about my time or the fact that it was their mistake.Nobody could give me any explanation why the amount changed suddenly and when they corrected their mistake, they gave me the attitude that they were somehow doing me a favor!I asked the associate that I would like to hear from someone from higher management to explain this situation, but I am yet to hear from anyone!I am never renting from Alamo again.
Car was great and very quick easy pick up and drop off. However, was in a hurry when dropping off and left my hat and sunglasses on front passenger seat. I realized when I got home and immediately contacted Alamo. I received an email saying they were not found. I hope they fit nice!!
Everything went great with the rental. The only thing I would’ve liked better is if they would allow me to return the car 1 hour late for a prorated price. When I asked about this, it would’ve been an extra daily rate, which seems unreasonable. Check in and out were quick and easy.
I am a insider. I get free upgrades plus 5% off sometimes. Also last minute deals are good. I once had a problem with mix communication with the 1-800 no. And people at desk with price.....but overall the manager help me and gave me excellent customer service to satisfy what I was told. When I return the car they always make sure if I was satisfied with my rental. Also when I pick up the car.
Busy rental place, but good and efficient service. we had a free upgrade coming, but they didnt have the upgrade on the same floor, so they gave us our original rental -- was it due to just not wanting to go to the other floor to get us our car? thats what it seemed like. but the car we got was clean and ran well, and the price was good and the return was super easy.
The overall experience was very nice. When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly representative who answered my questions on picking up a car and the details of returning. When I returned the car the initial charges was incorrect and the on site manager resolved it accordingly. The car was good and the rate was good too. I will recommended to my friends and family.
We rented a full size car and that turned out to be a Nissan Altima. I would not recommend this car, sits very low and the passenger side did not have any way to raise the seat. Gas mileage was good, however. But, this is not why I gave Alamo such a low score. We had 5 vouchers that could each be used for a one rental day. The voucher stated that If a customer receives more than one Voucher, multiple Vouchers may be combined... When we picked up the car, the agent said that the system would only accept three vouchers. I pointed out that the voucher stated that multiple vouchers could be used and there was no limit stated. I was told to bring it to the attention of the agent when we turned the car in and that agent could apply the other vouchers. We turned the car in at the Palm Springs airport, and I had to be very insistent to get the agent to apply the other two vouchers to the balance on the rental. He did make an adjustment, but told me that For future reference, a maximum of three vouchers is all that can be applied to each rental. My reply was that he needed to notify the Corporate office that they need to disclose that on the voucher. We wasted time at the beginning of the trip and at the end of the trip in dealing with an issue that should have never been a problem. The vouchers were sent to us because of a class action lawsuit....looks like Alamo is looking for another one.
The staff at this location was great. My rental process was pain-free and I didnt have any surprise charges. They ran out of compact cars, so they gave me a mid-sized car at no extra charge. The last time I rented from them, I forgot something in my car, and they called me when they cleaned the car out to let me know they found an item. They were very good about not describing the item at all, so, if it were from the previous renter, I would not be able to have them just ship it to me. This is the kind of thing I look for as a business traveler.
Planned on getting an Uber for a work trip, but with surge pricing it was going to be super expensive. Decided to go for a rental car in the airport instead and didnt have a reservation. I was able to make a quick reservation on my phone, walk up to the empty desk, and get my car. They had good prices on cars that sort notice and when the cars were taking a bit to be washed the woman let us take an SUV instead for sake of expediency which was appreciated. Car was clean and in good condition.
The check in online was very smooth and quick since I have been an Alamo customer for 23 years. Even after I selected No with all the additional features (Collision Damage Insurance, Purchase Gas in advance, etc.), I lost another 10 minutes dealing with the attendant at the gate for the same questions. It becomes annoying when I had decided not to purchase additional insurance from Alamo when I checked in online. Please dont ask again.
Really great service. I ususally dread renting cars because something always goes wrong and its a long line after a long flight. But, not here! We went straight up to the counter and our reservation was filled quickly and with no fuss. We were on the road in short order in a nice car. Now I know where to rent cars when Im flying in San Jose.
We had a very positive experience from start to end. We were provided easy instructions for pick up and drop off. We got to the San Jose airport and immediately had our choice of cars and drove right off without any wait. The car was in like new condition. We had no issues and dropped it off with ease at the San Diego airport. All for a very reasonable price, lower than others.
Very disappointed with the lack of car selection at SJC. I booked a Special Rate and when I arrived, was only given a choice of a compact car or a pickup truck! The special rate I paid would have got me a nicer mid-size vehicle according to the competition. I was hoping to start using Alamo again, but this experience will deter me from doing so.
Alamo is my typical choice. They often let you choose between the car class you booked and one level higher and that was no different at SJC. Everything went very well, with good customer service. The only negative was that the interior of the vehicle wasnt fully clean. Not bad, but a little dusty and could have been vacuumed more thoroughly.
Reserved a premium car (Alamo) at San Jose, CA airport. Upon arrival a sign was posted for renters to see an agent at National car rental. Apparently, Alamo did not have any cars available to rent. National car rental tried to give me a vehicle that was not in the class I reserved. Took about 10 minutes for the agent to find me a comparable vehicle to the one I reserved with Alamo.
Although they tried to upsell me on getting an upgrade on my rental. Both the employee when I picked up car and dropped off car were both nice. I had pre ordered my rental, so transactions were smooth and easy.Easy to find closer to terminal B. Lucky it wasnt raining because you do have to cross street from terminal to get too. Easy walk. The parking lot is a huge spiral you may get dizzy going up or down.
Service was fine, but the vehicle we rented was filthy. Bug guts all over the front and it clearly had not been cleaned after the previous customer. Asked attendant to review the chipped paint and debris on the car so we were not charged. We were told it is fine, don’t worry about it. REALLY!!!!!Please wash the vehicles and require that your staff show a little bit more interest in the vehicles you have invested money in.
3-Day rental at San Jose airport to visit Sonoma wine country.PROS: Online reservation process was quick and easy. Check-in and pick up was also quick and easy. The size I reserved wasnt available so I was given an upgrade at no additional charge. A lot of cars from which to choose. I selected a Kia Optima because thats what I drive at home.CONS: The car had some minor issues; all windows were badly water spotted (looked like they were just sprayed but not wiped down); the car had high mileage (over 48,000). While there were no problems while driving to and from Sonoma, there was a continuous vibration that seemed to be coming from the engine (no change with varying speed, and it didnt seem to be tires). Upon returning the car, I mentioned this to the employee upon check-in, who said he would report it; hopefully they will follow up on it.Return and check-in was also quick and easy. I will use Alamo again!Had I picked a different vehicle, I most likely would have given 5 stars.
I rented car four times from this Alamo and I faced unprofessional behavior from the front desk three times and I decided to write a review.1. When I make a reservation at say 10:00AM and arrive at 9:48AM, they (a lady in the front desk) clocked the exact time and told me that I have to return the car at 9:48AM on the return date. If not, they will charge per hour after that time. Usually it take at least 10-20mins before you are on the road with the car. They should give at least 1hr extra window for any unexpected events like traffic!2. Other time, I reserved a car for two days for business and I asked them for an extension of my reservation and requested for an upgrade. They told they dont have any cars and only thing they could do is extend the same car. So, I have to return the car and take a new one from Hertz, where I have to do invest time to reserve a new car.
Front staff was friendly at desk and car was in good condition. However, they didnt have the car I reserved and the person checking us into the car was really bothered with being there and that she needed to provide us a car at all. When I asked if she could adjust the clock in the car to the right time, she was really aggravated and bothered by it. Would have been a good experience if this employee would have any desire to be there and help the customer. Instead I cant recommend and will look at others for next rental.
Price is great....but unfortunately quality isnt.Convertible we rented did not work and we had to come back the next day to switch out the car...so time wasted from our vacation. The second car we received was very dirty inside and out (there were a lot of ants inside the car). Cars should be cleaned and not given to customers this way. Other than that....staff is friendly.
I have always found their prices to be the lowest among the top rental companies and their service to be excellent. In addition, many of their locations offer Skip The Counter service - this lets you complete and print out the rental agreement, then just go directly to picking up your car. No waiting in line!
Excellent service by Alamo at SJC Airport. I did the advance check-in online to skip the counter. Both picking up my mini van and returning it was so easy. Smiling employees quickly scanned my bar code, pointed out two mini vans I could choose from, let me take my time deciding, helped me figure out how to use some of the controls, then I was on my way. I drove the car for a week in snowy conditions, so it was quite dirty upon return. However, again I was greeted by a smiling employee who quickly checked in the vehicle. I reported a DC outlet that wasnt working correct and they made note to fix it, then they had me on my way within 5 minutes! I highly recommend the SJC Airport Alamo!
This is the second time I rented from Alamo and I have no complains so far. Excellent customer service (they will politely ask if you want to upgrade for a couple dollars but wont be pushy with it). I was out in less than 20 minutes. They also got kiosks for quick checkout.
Rented a car with Alamo San Jose airport, the class I rented wasn’t available and they gave me another car, an upgrade. Unfortunately it turned out to be a total nightmare. I drove from airport to my interview place which was at Tesla and back and it was 35 miles. Fuel gauge didn’t even move. So i decided to drop off the car as it is without refueling it, or just pay at the cash register. On the way back at the airport drive car just stopped working. Engine stalled and I found myself in the middle of the airport driveway blocking the traffic. It was very scary and unsafe. I had police asking me questions, and people honking around me. It was extremely unpleasant. I contacted Alamo and let them know what happened with the car. Eventually they dispatched technicians who told me that battery died. I almost missed my flight back waiting for them. I left the car with the technicians and flew back home. Few weeks later i received letter from Alamo where they accused me of fuel contamination and charged me $495.00.What fuel contamination when I didn’t even touch the tank!? I drove 35 miles and had a car for several hours and now they want me to pay for their mistake.I dispute these fraudulent charges with them however they send files to collections. So here is what happened to me, i hope nothing of the sort will ever happen to you. But i would reconsider renting from that location.I will never ever rent anything from Alamo, oh btw they are owned by rent-a-car. So guys you will never see my business again.Update: After I posted this review I received a call from Alamo informing me that they are not going to follow on this incident and that they dont have any issues anymore with this rental. Power of Google review and social media. Thank you
When we picked up our rental car and the employee who should have told us where to go walked away mumbling something about a booth, and when we tried to clarify what she said she just kept walking away. She was obviously cold and was trying to get somewhere warmer. We figured it our that we had to take the car to a checkout booth to have the car inspected for damage. We returned the car and complained about the employee and what we felt was poor service and the manager Appologizs and gave us a discount of 74.00. That employee who was working that day was hiding on the other side of the parking lot and never came out while we waited for the transaction to take place. She was a black female with shoulder length hair wearing a wool cap and a long black trench coat. (same as the day we picked up the car). I have rented cars from Alamo for 20 years and never had an issue. I would recommend that this person find another line of work, she is bad for business and does not take pride in her work. I would like her to start practice saying, You want fries with that, because that would be a fitting job for her people skills.
We rented a Nissan Sentra from Alamo. It became apparent that the drivers and front passenger rubber window seals were damaged. While driving at highway speeds this caused an annoying whistling. We mentioned this to the Alamo employee at the end of our rental. Because of this annoyance, she gave us a $40.00 discount off our bill. Quite unexpected -- we never asked, she just handed us our receipt then told us. This was was great customer service. Alamo is a great company.
We use Alamo Rent A Car exclusively. Why? Because the price that you are quoted is the price that you pay. Ive used other rental companies that have surprise fees when you drop the car off.Speaking of dropping off the car. With Alamo its a seamless process. They have an understanding that when youre at an airport, the last thing you need is additional hassles. You pull up, hand off the keys, pick up your receipt, and head to the terminal.I would have given five stars, but their price is slightly higher. In this case its worth it. So lets say its a 4.5 star rating. The saying, You get what you pay for applies here. Ill be back at an Alamo counter soon.
I was pretty happy with the Nissan Sentra that I rented at the Alamo Rent A Car at San Jose Airport! However, I really think that Alamo really needs to improve on getting either more clerks at the counter, or more efficient clerks! It took SO long for one clerk to go through a long line of people!! And we ended up waiting SO ridiculously long for transactions and checkouts that really should have been so simple!
We used the pre check in rental option where you receive a bar coded recipt that you take to the rental car line pick a car in your assigned rental category show your drivers license at the guard gate and bar coded recipt and off we went could not have been easier or more efficient. Car was ready, cleaned, and fully gassed and ran fine our entire one week rental. Car return was just as easy and believe it or not actual bill was the same as the projected cost when I did the rental online.
Picked up a rental in San Jose. While in San Francisco, the back window of the car was broken into and 3 bags stolen from the trunk. We were all pretty traumatized. It was completely unsafe to drive around downtown SF with a broken window. We found an Alamo and replaced the car as quickly as possible. When I got to the airport a few days later, I found that they had tacked on $75 to fill the tank. NOT HAPPY! First of all, the tank was half full, they charged $6.20/gallon, and charged me to fill a 12 gallon tank. I understand the bring it back full policy and I always do, however, it would have been nice to have Alamo be reasonable and charge me for what I used. I was already paying an inflated premium price of $6.20/gallon, so to be charged a full tank regardless of what I used, considering I had just been robbed? I think its pathetic. I wont be using Alamo again.
The people in San Jose are marvelous! They remembered me when my sister and I went to visit my mom, and a few weeks later when we returned after she had passed away, they upgraded my car for free so that I could transport her large paintings. Their prices are very reasonable, their cars are always clean and in good condition , But most of all the people are kind, courteous and always have a smile. Best customer service ever!!!
I am an Alamo Insider. Did reservation, payment and skip the window all online. Couldnt have been easier. Car was great, a VW Jetta. Had a very mild mechanical/maintenance problem but was quickly reimbursed upon turning the car in. Couldnt have been easier and will use Alamo again.
I have rented from Alamo many times. This minivan we received was dirty and not cleaned properly. There was fingerprints all over the inside of the windows. There must have been some chocolate in the seat as I ended up with chocolate or something all over my shirt and pants from the seat. It had a bit of a smell that was quite noticeable once we were in the sun and heat. There were crumbs and grease on the seats that was more noticeable as well, once we were out of the dark parking garage. This was not normal from my previous Alamo experiences but whoever is cleaning cars at the San Jose, CA airport needs to find another job. Probably time to go back to Budget and not take chances in San Jose!
I rented a midsize SUV from Alamo SFO over Thanksgiving weekend and returned at SJC. I am very pleased with the Alamo service. Rental rate was half compared to other quotes. I got even more discount with Costco membership. I also selected Skip the Counter option, so pickup was really quick. There were no issues with the car. Alamo staff at SJC was very professional and courteous. We had 2 big suitcases, 2 smaller one and infant car seat with stroller with us. Considering difficulty for 2 people to carry so much stuff to check-in counter from return location, Alamo staff at return counter gave us a ride to Delta curbside kiosk. It was really nice. Another thing to mention is that Alamo charged me for Golden Gate Bridge Toll. However after explaining that I had already paid the same, they reimbursed me just by email followup. Overall very pleased with Alamo. Will rent again.
I wanted to provide my feedback on my experience. When I first arrived the associate was very nice attentive and helpful. I originally reserved a midsize and the associate noticed I had an infant and a toddler, she mentioned the car would be something like a Jetta. We all agreed it would be too compact with car seats. She offered us an upgrade to an SUV for $20 more day which I thought was a great deal! I took the offer and went to get my car. When getting the car the gentleman was nice but only had a Jeep Patriot available. When my husband and I loaded up the car seats there wasnt any room for anything else. This left me very disappointed because I was lead to believe I was getting more room than a Jetta. I was extremely unhappy with the rental. The inside of the car was also dirty and had an old fry on side panel on the passenger door. The back passenger floor board had what appeared to be a bleach stain. (Pictures can be provided) my second issue was with the toddler booster seat I rented it wasnt very sturdy and made me nervous each time we drove. Im not sure what can be done now that I turned in the car but Im upset I went from paying $80 total to $200 total.I also sent an mail to this location on Monday and have not received a response.
Picked up my rental at the Alamo center at the San Jose airport with no issues. However, after having picked up the car and driving it off, I realized that the cars handling on the freeway was not very stable. The steering wheel felt too responsive. I knew this was a problem because I rented the same model (2017 Nissan Altima) just a week prior. I decided to figure it out myself before returning the car because my road trip had already started. The first thing that I checked was the tire pressure because it was an easy check using the dashboard display. It turned out that whoever serviced the car before, didnt understand that the tire pressure shouldnt be set to 47 psi. This was a real safety hazard. The manufacturers max rating according to the tire label was 44 psi. My children were in the vehicle with me and I could have had a blow out on the freeway in100+ degree temperatures. Luckily, I caught it and let enough air out to drop it back down to 33ish psi which is typical of most passenger cars. When I returned the car a couple of days later, the Alamo employee didnt seem concerned about my feedback which for me is a major problem. This may be a single even, as I have rented from them before with no issues, but if I ever do rent another car again from Alamo in San Jose, Ill make sure to check the tire pressure before driving off.
We rented a car for 8 days in February 2015. Our pickup at the airport was right there and the whole process was flawless. The car was in good shape, clean and worked perfect. We always take the full insurance, while being in Mexico. The return was quick and easy. I will rent next year in Los Cabos as long as the pricing is competitive. Tom D
We recently rented a car from Alamo in Phoenix. Upon returning the car, we left our iPad in the car by mistake. We realized it when we went through airport security, and then immediately filed a lost item claim with Alamo. We never expected to see it again. But, two days later we were contacted by Alamo, and they verified that we were the owners of an iPad that was found when they were cleaning the car. We received it back a couple of days later. You have some awesome, honest people working for you at Alamo!
Seamless- We received an email before our trip that offered to skip the line we clicked the link- checked in on line, followed the instructions on how to skip the line and walked straight to the cars and took our pick. All seamless and hassle-free- what more could you ask for when you rent a car? I am breaking up with AVIS after this experience with Alamo.
I have tried a lot of car rental companies. Alamo is the only one so far that wont try to charge you with surprise money and damage money for little scratch. When you return the car, just simply drive into the returning lot and they will charge you the price exactly as you booked. Show a lot of the trust and respect for the customers. Now I will just use their business instead of others.
I like Alamo because normally has fares between the lowest but also has the efficiency of not making you waste time when returning the car (I have used other companies offering low rates that it is very painful to return the car, specially when there are many people in line in front of you). I also like that you can choose your car (within the car type you are paying, you choose which one to take). The last time I rented I got a luxury car for the price of the economical. I still do not understand why, but the person at the counter told me this is stilling and I told her, no, I am paying. :-)
We got a 2016 Infiniti QX70 for a Luxury at an amazing price with costcotravel. The service was quick and we were out in less than 10 minutes. We made our car dirty with ash like layer on the outside, I called the customer care they said its okay as long as inside and outside both are not super dirty. When returning they didnt ask me any questions about it. Overall a great experience. Will rent again with Alamo.
I have rented from Alamo 3 times in the last year and they have been amazing all 3 times. When I travel I like to drive vehicles that have me sitting higher rather than lower so that I have a better field of vision. I know that the Kia Soul and the Chevy Trax are considered Standard Vehicles and so for each trip I have requested one of the two of those vehicles. I know they cant guarantee specific vehicles but they have been able to fulfill my request going above and beyond each time to insure my satisfaction. Check out/in have been quick and the staff have always been courteous. I will absolutely rent from them again.
Pick up & return of the car was very quick & easy. Staff, very friendly, I left my prescription glasses in the car and couldnt find my receipt so they would know where the car was, but they kept on it and after 45 min they found them!! Luckily I had to wait for another car to be returned and I was still in the building! Great experience!
Our flight arrived over 1.5 hrs late into San Jose but the Alamo counter stayed open until 1245A because they knew we were coming. The counter normally closes at 12A. We quickly got our car and made it to see my father who was in hospice care, just in time (2A in Monterey). Obviously, this was not your average trip & Alamos commitment to customer service meant more than any business deal or family vacation event.I wish I had the counter associates name so I could give him proper recognition. Amazing service and very much appreciated.
The car rental set-up is brilliant; makes the whole process of getting to and getting situated in your car an absolute BREEZE! We thoroughly enjoyed the brand new Tahoe we rented. We had to drive up into La Honda as well as San Carlos to San Jose!! It was easy to maneuver my moms wheelchair in and out of the back! AND there was room for our 3 large bags! We could not have been more pleased with the rental, your staff and the set-up. MAHALO from Hawaii!
Nice choice, checkin earlier than booked, but they were fine with it. Can choose to upgrade to higher level for free, Nice service, no hidden cost--thats the best. Confirmed with the customer service that washing the car is not a must, just clean the inside of rental car.
Ive always liked Alamo; it has been my go-to car rental agency on the West Coast. Alamo has never done a bait-and-switch or tried to persuade me to buy coverage I didnt need. This past holidays experience was a bit strange, though. I had a reservation with Alamo, but when my daughter and I got off the elevator and asked the National agent where Alamo was, he said, You dont have to go over there. I can help you. When I hesitated, he said that National and Alamo were owned by the same company, so National would honor my Alamo reservation. We did take the car he offered, but I was unsure about the situation.
Rented a car for five days over the 4th July weekend. I did online check so I didnt have to go to the counter after gettting off my flight. Instead I went directly to the cars and was helped immediately and found a great car. Over all very happy with the experinece and would definitely rent from Alamo again. Car was nice with leather seating, which I am not used to getting when renting. Thanks for a very positive experience.
This lady here was so rude and not helpful. When we asked for the number to their corporate office and stuff the lady just looked at us and said no. and my husband was like why not? and she told us really hateful after refusing to give us the number to corporate office to get it from the manager you want to speak to so bad. The manager was just as bad and didnt even know how to resolve the issue at hand without all the delayed issues at hand and also delaying us on what we had planned to get done , so therefore I dont recommend at all and the main manager over them both was a man that didnt even give his name properly. and I had to get on the phone literally because they had already made my husband extremely upset and had to explain everything again and go through the law issues with him on license issues and how to resolve the issue at hand.
Alamo was fantastic, picked up at SJC, dropped off at SFO. They were quick, courteous and even cut down my bill a little. Car was clean, they offered a couple sportier options for no extra charge (that we should have taken!) and we were off! Thanks Alamo, this was our first rental with you and well be coming back for sure.
The overall rental experience was great. Very easy to book online. I paid under $300 for 4 days of rental. Your prick-up and drop off times can cause your quote to vary so one can play around with that. We rented a Nissan Sentra - It drove very well but I thought the vehicle had larger blind spots than other cars I have driven. I would have rented a different car like an Elantra.
The rental pick up was easy! The drop off was pretty easy. Service was pretty ok. Everything seemed to be “just ok”. Maybe because it was early in the morning...The car looked nice but was kind of dirty as if is was sitting in a field all day. However this was an airport location and the car was in the airport garage. Car condition has ok. I had to put air in the tires to correct the pressure twice. Considering I was driving from the Bay Area to LA the temperature doesn’t change that much. And again just seemed poorly maintained.Hiever we were fine. The price was good except for the guy over charged me by 8 bucks with no explanation. The receipt said “gas 2gallons” but I showed hi a arecwiot showing I filled it up just 20 minutes before drop off. But to no avail! So they got an extra 8 bucks from me. Great job Alamo!
In general my experience with Alamo this time & w/ previous California Alamo rentals has been outstanding. To me, Alamo gives more & does more. The price for my rental car was truly outstanding. The condition of the vehicle was flawless. The car was virtually a brand new vehicle. Alamo personnel I dealt with were well trained, patient & genuinely caring. There are new cars that are highly technological. I have suggested to Alamo that personnel be given more detailed training on such vehicles to equip them to always be able to answer our questions I feel that they heard my request. Also at the moment I dont think another company would do a better job than Alamo is doing. I passed a competitor rental car company on my trip and stopped in to ask him how something worked. (He didnt know how to answer this specific question either...) These new cars are just so incredibly technological-- it is a challenge to totally master one quickly. My cross-country flight was with an airline that has stopped skycap curbside service. Had I known that I would have packed far less than I had. I called Alamo the night before my return flight & asked the clerk to help me figure out how I would get from Alamo with so much stuff to the airline. He did not know. However in the morning, Alamo sympathetically drove me to the airline at the end of my rental. That meant everything to me. Nobody is perfect but I think the world of this company.
Alamo is a choice partner with Costco. We always use our Costco membership when renting vehicles. The Alamo team was great to work with. The online reservation was simple and easy to use. The Alamo counter help at the San Jose Airport were fast and efficient. We had the choice of selecting the vehicle of choice when we went to the covered parking level of the Alamo fleet. We will use them again each time we visit the San Jose area!
Our review would have only been 1 star had the service we received been based on our experience with the representative at the counter, but when we went up to the car lot Christina changed that for us.Christina was so professional. She spent time helping us find just the right car we wanted. She turned our perviously negative experience around.Thank you Christina.
The young woman who helped me had to deal with airport reconstruction noise decibels that were in between putting your ear next to a controlled explosion and concrete drills that chip your teeth and dim the lights. I was about ready to lose my mind but she remained stoic throughout the entire ordeal and gave me a free upgrade for waiting an extra 2 minutes so she could run to the bathroom. Even after I told her I was in no hurry she still set or broke at least 3 Guinness Records. Thanks for giving me a great car and a review worth sharing, Alamo!
Long line was developing because of an unprepared customer, so we used the Kiosk. A little tedious, but much faster. Had the choice of several Mid SUVs. One we chose had 458 miles on it. Drove it for the weekend. Return, fast and simple check in. Excellent service, great rates, will use again.
Consider Thanksgiving week is the most busiest week of the year, Alamo has the best prices and the easiest check in and out. I go to Kiosk check myself in, go upstairs and get my car. The only complained I had is I reserved luxury car, Cadillac ATS or equivalent (my understand is Lincoln MKS). They are out of Cadillac ATS and Lincoln..so they gave me Volvo CX60 ..The return was super quick. Highly recommended
Problem free We arrived at a 1/2 hour before closing and attendant almost gave us a car that was one class lower. I brought t to her attention and she promptly got me the right car. I am not complaining I was tired and she looked like she has a long day. Check in was fast and the return was even faster! I ill rent here again when I returnPs Car is on 6th floor so you may get dizzy leaving and returning LOL
Roxana was amazing, professional, kind amd attentive. She went above and beyond for me, making this experience by far one of the best when it comes to renting cars. I was originally there with a reservation with another company (Fox), but I didnt rent with them due to an unexpected deposit of $1,000 for local renters that wasnt communicated to me when I made my reservation. I didnt realize that it was holiday weekend and was getting a little scared that I wouldnt be able to get a rental for the duration that I needed and within my budget. When I approached the counter, Roxana greeted me with a smile and was INCREDIBLY helpful!!!!! Thank you so much Raxana, youre an amazing person and youre spectacular at what you do! Thank you for your kind words as well!. (I sincerely apologize is I misspelled your name) :-) I highly recommend this location and if Roxana is able to help you out, thats the icing on the cake!!!
Very good and fast service, courtesy and friendly staffs, the most convenient thing is that I can choose my own car, not like other car rental, they assigned renter to a parking spot #, sometimes renter doesnt want to drive that specific car and they have to go back to the counter to exchange and it takes more time, Thanks to Alamo for understanding customers need and make it easy. The rental price at Alamo is always reasonable.
I booked suv with awd for my winter travel and when. I arrived the agent who gives car was very rude. Agent bluntly said we dont care what you book online, we can only give you what is available. And not having awd i was stuck in Tahoe snow storm for 9 hours on road. Never going to book anymore with Alamo sjc. Wont recommend anyone either.
The MOST economical rental car service and easy to acquire a vehicle. I have arthritis and cannot get out of low built cars to the ground, and once I explain my condition to the car rental representative he/she recommend a more suitable car within my budget. Staff is very courteous. I have tried other car rentals but come back and convinced to remain with Alamo-Enterprise-National. Diane G. Malaga, NJ
My husband and I rented a car on Nov. 9-13 2016. Everything was great until now.We just realized we forgot a couple of items when we dropped off the car.One was an expensive Stetson hat of my husbands. The other was just a head rest.We would think someone would contact us if we left any thing in the car. I know its a few months ago, but didnt know where we had left the hat until recently.Ive tried contacting / calling lost and found several times and havent even received a call back.Only reason why we need that hat back is that my husband is going through Stage 4 Cancer with Radiation and Chemo treatments and has lost all his hair. He would love to be wearing that hat now that he needs it more than ever.I would think they would have some kind of consideration. I know they must have found it, but didnt bother to let us know. I would think they check the car out before renting it out again.
Nice people. The desk agent of course tried to upsell us, but she was nice about it. The man who got us our car met us at the elevator, asked what kinds of cars we liked, and made sure we know how to open the gas cap before we left. All in all a quick, easy, and positive experience.
Alamo is the only rental car company Im going with after lousy experience with others companies recently. I always go for the self-check out kiosk so I dont have to stand there answering yes and no questions. The only thing Alamo needs to improve on is the kiosks interface. Rather than spending a couple of thousand dollars on a primitive CRT touchscreen system, get a couple of large screen touch pad and mount them inside a stand. The responsiveness of the interface will improve greatly.
Ive rented from Alamo multiple times before, first time at the San Jose airport. Id booked a intermediate SUV. The selection was really bad and I was made to pay $30/day extra to get a decent full size SUV they had available though I only ever wanted an intermediate SUV...They shouldve been at least courteous enough to offer a free upgrade considering their poor selection. Never again...
Rented an SUV here for a skiing trip. Was able to use the self-serve kiosk to access my reservation and bypass the line, which was likely about 20-30 minutes long.Got the 4WD SUV that I needed - a Ford Explorer - which worked perfectly for the trip. Lots of room, and it drove great in the snow. The return experience was also painless.Suggestion to Alamo: make it possible for renters to specify a 4WD vehicle when making the reservation. Would have been a disaster for us if the location did not have a 4WD vehicle available for us.
I hate it when I reserve a full size And I get offered a compact or intermediate. I didnt have time to wait for a full size because there was already someone ahead of me waiting for the car they reserved to be brought out to them. And a mini suv is not an upgrade from a full size, at least not to me. So I took the intermediate class. Thank you. Have nice day!
This was a prepaid reservation & checked in online as well. When we arrived in California (SJU) took the shuttle to car rental area. Told counter person we had already checked in online. She insisted we had to wait on a 15 minute line & then said had to go to reservation line on another floor. After 2 times of personnel not knowing how to direct us & us getting upset, a woman named Kathy said you never had to stand online since you had already pre checked. Kathy was the only person who cared about customer service and apologized for uninformed Alamo personnel. She refunded 1 day of rental. All this took an hour back & forth. Why dont all personnel know company policy?? Very frustrating and car was dirty- old French fries which had fallen between driver seat & console had to have been there awhile!
My experience with customer service here was pretty bad. I spoke to somebody by the name of Tina, and unfortunately (for her) she said she was learning to be assertive but came across as extremely rude and lacking any customer service skill. She also had not done her homework to find out if my car had been extended. I was in the middle of a meeting when she called and asked if I could get 5 minutes to call back, and she said unfortunately not. I have never heard anything like that. Background: I was supposed to return a car on Tuesday but called to ask if I could return on Wednesday at 4pm instead. Customer service agreed. The next day at 1pm (3 hours before return time), Tina called, and tried to be assertive (apparently). Was there a need for anything besides a normal conversation? Probably not. The call from her was totally not required, as I spoke to customer service the previous day.I would not recommend her service to any customer. She needs a lesson on the basics of customer service and should not be allowed to talk to a customer before that.
Rental car was okay - nothing special. The only problem I encountered was that when we picked up the car from the San Jose Airport, the charge was $20 more than what was on my confirmation. Trying to get it rectified took some time and at 11:30 at night, that was not how I wanted to start my trip. Fortunately, by the time we turned in the car, the price had been corrected. I would rent from Alamo again.
Have used alamo several times. The reservation, pick up and drop off processes have always gone smoothly. Usually get the car i want or a reasonable alternative and i like that you can decline the additional coverage, GPS, etc. ahead of time online or at one of their kiosks and avoid the high pressure salespeople.
Interesting conversation...Did you know the 16th-largest U.S. private company- Enterprise Holdings in which Alamo is a named subsidy-worth $19.4 billion in revenue do not have telephones at their Alamo car rental locations. Sounds crazy huh? I thought so too. Least this is what I was told by a supervisor at a call center.Apon my visiting parents departure, I realized I forgot to get their visitors parking pass back from them for my private gated community. All I wanted was either a direct number OR I even asked the supervisor if he could call himself to ask personnel if they could check the vehicle as our passes are programmable and come with a hefty price tag. Thats when I was told that he had no way of contacting them directly. So, you mean tell me that Alamo does not have access to branch numbers? Thats alarming. Or, the other conclusion is I was just lied to. Either way, not good customer service guys. This was an issue that could have been very easily rectified. Instead Im forced to wait for a phone call that may or may not come through in which more time will go by unless I make the trek to the airport to get management involved in the hunt. This is rediculous. Really.
Not goodAbout four or five weeks ago I got harassed by the customer service guy twice youre supposed to give me to free rentals and when I called because they hadnt sent it to sells Representatives so you put it on the notes when I picked up the car guess what no notes no nothing and then when I came back I was telling the girl I had a bad day and shes like oh well. I guess its for the people that you know deserve it is having a bad day
When I picked up the car the agent went through the standard vehicle inspection; this involves them walking around the vehicle and making tick marks on a car outline sheet. When you see this sheet you quickly realize it does not come anywhere close to providing an accurate representation of the state of the car (if they wanted to do this they would take photos) but you basically have to sign it anyway. Now I declined the full coverage (I only purchased liability) since full coverage was significantly more and my AMEX card provides coverage to the car you are driving.(Im not trying to be a cheapskate by not paying for full coverage. The base rental cost was 170 but then when they added liability + gas it bumped to ~360. If I added full coverage it would have been 540+. Its just insane)I had read online that in certain regions, if you dont buy the full coverage, rental companies may try to fabricate damage to the rental vehicle to make a few extra dollars. To try to avoid getting scammed I took a number of photos of the exterior with my cell phone but I ended up missing the correct angle of the back of the vehicle which would show the license plate + emblem. When we returned the car a week later the agent said that the emblem on the back had gone missing, and that they had to charge us for it. I told him that it was fairly obvious that the emblem has been missing for a very long time (in other words, you gave it to us that way); when an emblem comes off the glue it was affixed with looks somewhat new under it since it had never seen the light of day. In our case the exposed glue looked old and worn. I made sure to take a bunch of photos of this before leaving. This agent was not really interested in this very obvious observation. It didnt matter who I pointed this out to.He then led me into the main office where the lady behind the desk handed me an incident report and told me to fill it out. I told her there was no incident, you gave me a car missing an emblem, and so that is exactly what you got back. She suggested that I just write something/anything on the incident report like someone in a parked ripped it off. Suggesting that I lie on said form is, in plain English, insurance fraud. The trick though was that they were merely trying to convince me to be the perpetrator of the fraud by lying and signing the bottom.I told her Im, without question, not going to lie on a form. No matter what I did though she was going to charge me for the part and so I paid for it with my credit card to dispute later.I wrote Alamo customer service armed with this story and plenty of photos and they just played dumb. Basically they disregarded mentioning the photos in any response and just kept stating the same points over and over like hey, we talked to the Alamo office and they said the emblem was missing when you returned it.So, the take away is that these guys are very good and getting money out of you one way or another. They are going to push the insurances hard, and if you dont take them, get ready for them to try the next grift.
I have been renting with Alamo over a year now and never have a hard time getting my rental. My experience this past weekend Jan30-Feb2 in San Jose was no different. Staff friendly as always, price great, and loved the Kia Sorento I used for 6 people. Will use Alamo again soon.
I choose ALAMO every time. Since the first days of your Quicksilver the pickup and return process is so efficient.. Recently I had no choice & had to use another car rental company. . .no comparison. You quote a price and stick with it. Thanks for the excellent service.
Great customer service at the gate. We picked a vehicle from the stable of cars in the garage that happened to have a dried stain on the front seat. I mentioned it to the check out girl at the exit gate and she jumped up from her seat, ran down to the row and begged us to take another car before we left. good job. give her a raise!
SUV did not have built-in GPS. Got a mobile GPS at exit. Was told it would cost $3-4 extra per day. SHOCKED at return to find an extra $100 on the bill for a 5-day rental. NOT happy with Alamo.UPDATE--Alamo responded and provided a partial refund for the GPS fee. Thanks, Alamo.
The guy sitting at the front desk, Angel, was not helpful. He had a very bad demeanor, was disrespectful, and, was arrogant for a customer facing representative. I had no complaints with the car that was rented. But if people like Angel represent Alamo, I will never come back to Alamo SJC.
We arrived late at San Jose, CA. To avoid delays I checked in the day before and supply credit card for payment. When we arrived at the 6th floor of the rental car building there were not cars of the type we asked. Thus, an attendant told us to choose from a similar but larger type and we did. However, at the exit gate the attendant asked me for the credit card I used to make the payments!! I do not travel with all my credit cards for obvious reasons and NOBODY asked me to bring the card that I used to pay. The result is we spend more than half an hour at the gate while the attendant made more than five calls and we still had to make the San Jose to Santa Cruz crossing. What was the point of pre-checking?
Depending on who you receives your returned car, theyll just make whatever estimate they want on the gas level. I never get a complete full tank of gas, but when I return, I completely fill it up and drive to return it. 2 gallons was the guys estimate of me driving ~7 miles from gas station to SJC. He said, I should fill it up at nearby....Stupidest excuse of an answer I ever get.
I just came over this morning to get the car rental. When we reserved the car over the phone, my uncle clearly said that hes not gonna be there to pick up the car so he added another driver to pick it up and my costco membership is the one that we used. They asked if we have a credit card, my uncle told them that the other drive doesnt have a credit card but the costco primary has a credit card but no license, and they told us its ok as long as sge can show us the costco membership card and the credit cardWhen we got there this lady on the front being rude the way she answered me instead of explaining it to us properly. I tried to explain saying that what they told us over the phone is that its ok even if I dont have a license as long as I have my costco membership card and credit card that should be fine we literally wasted our time hoping for days that we can pick up the car when we couldve found a different rental company out there if only they told us that we cant get it. Next time approach ur customers properly instead of being rude to people and man up for ur own words because literally our time has been wasted and now we are having a hard time to find a rental car for today!!!! Ruined our vacation
One of my friend advice me about them before and I didn’t listen to him, I had a very disappointed experience with the processor at the end, I never get my deposit back even though it was all check out perfect, I traveled on July 2019 and I still have not heard from them. They never give my 500 dollars back to my account. Please be careful on this take names and chasing until you get it because in my case I haven’t yet.
I left a review about a dispute over a dent in our rental car out of San Jose a few days ago. I must amend this review and say that the local representative Zeric Hiyas has attempted to remedy this situation in an efficient manner. He helped us resolve this issue and am grateful to him for reaching out and dealing with this on our behalf.
Never rent from these guys. They told us one thing about their policies and then a totally different thing two hours later. It wasted a ton of our time and couldve been avoided if they had educated their employees better or had better policies. If youre considering renting from them, take your money elsewhere.
I would have given a perfect score except our greeter at San Jose airport acted as if I was bothering her. She did everything but roll her eyes. She didn’t even take us all the way to the cars. She pointed and and that one or that one then walked away.Every other aspect was perfect!
We had to get a larger vehicle & did so. Thought it was rather unusual there was no walk around to see if there was any damage so asked the fellow at the leaving gate to do so, which he did quickly & said, there are some scratches but nothing big, do not worry about it we are only interested in large things. On return, they discovered a small dent on the rt, rear side, down very low. As we were never hit while we were in the vehicle, it had to be done in a parking lot while staying at the Hilton, in Scotts Valley, parking lot at Whole Foods in Capitola or Shadowbrook Restaurant in Capitola, the only places we went We are waiting to hear from you. Otherwise, we were pleased with the vehicle
Car rental worked as expected but the customer service was super rude, yelled at my friend for typing his phone number slightly wrong and went off for at least a minute about that, muttering to himself and in general being cranky. Also the guy was super confused about their own policies. Why do you even work in customer service?
All the staff were great. Very friendly renting, selecting a car, leaving the parking garage, and dropping off the car. They all helped me with directions to get where I was going. Good directions not Google directions. Not only that the car rental was clean and economical.
Very good experience with Alamo. The only downside is they are only limited to Airports. Parking at airports or nearby is going to cost you $15 to $25 or more per day. Yes, the only hassle I see is get dropped of to pick up the car and bring back the car. Luckily I live only 10 miles from the airport, but still.

2022-05-19The San Jose airport location was wonderful. Arrived at counter at 1:30 pm on a Thursday and no line. I had pre-entered my information, so everything went smoothly. I had to go up to the top level where someone was waiting to issue my car. I was out the door in a matter of minutes. The car got great gas mileage. Upon return, I was greeted with an employee with a handheld device, who quickly inspected my car and was able to give me the final total which was spot on with what I had expected. No surprises! As well, it was nice we were cleaning out the cans from our beverages & was told to go ahead and leave them in the car & they would be recycled properly.

2022-05-18We were second in line at the check in counter and were processed quickly. We were told to head upstairs to select our car. The upstairs crew directed us to a block of 4 cars and said pick one We liked a hybrid but noticed that the hatchback did not have a cover to keep prying eyes from seeing shopping bags and luggage so we settled for a Hyundai Accent with some wear and tear showing on the exterior. It was fun to drive and was pretty good on gas. After completing our 10 day trip around the bay area we drove in to a different Alamo site to drop the car off. It was a fast process and Rami, the greeter/checkout guy, was quick, professional and cheery. It was a no drama, low hassle rental all the way around.

2022-06-24I had a very easy experience here. I walked right up to the counter to check in, it took maybe 5 minutes. She warned me traffic was about to get bad so I better get on the road. Returning the vehicle was just as fast. I pulled in and a very nice woman scanned my car in and gave me a receipt. Its impressive how fast it all was. The longest wait was waiting for the airport terminal bus.

2022-03-18Theres usually a degree of uncertainty when traveling to a new city and completing all the travel arrangements. I most certainly felt this way about the car rental at San Jose, CA airport. My return flight was scheduled to leave at 6:35 am and the rental car agencies all opened at 7:00 am. Understandably, I felt a little dubious about the rental return. However, there was nothing to be concerned about. Attendants were up and waiting at 5:00 am and greeted me by my name.I used the Alamo app and signed up for Skip the Desk at the check-in. It went quite smoothly and I had the choice of three cars in the mid-size class. I chose the sporty looking Nissan Sentra and couldnt have been more pleased with the car - clean, smooth riding, responsive to acceleration, easy to drive, and good service. I would most certainly use Alamo again and will not be concerned about rental return if I ever fly to San Jose, CA in the future. Thank you for the good experience.

2021-12-25Overall a good experience, just some minor inconveniences: we signed up for Alamo Insider to go straight to the car, but the sign at the rental lot said to go to the national kiosk pretty much negating the go straight to the car perk. Also the car we reserved wasnt available, so we were offered the next class car... not a problem, in fact I was happy with it, but just wondering about the logistics involved with not having the reserved car available. Everything was very easy from pick up to drop off and we spent less than planned on gas since our car was a hybrid.I always had the impression that Alamo was a budget company with less desirable vehicles than Avis or Hertz, but based on this experience I will definitely use them again especially since the price was much lower for the same car.

2022-03-28I rented a vehicle at the SJC location so this review is about my experience at this location. I entered all of my info online so when I picked up the vehicle I could supposedly go pick a vehicle off their lot and the keys would be in it and drive to the exit. When I got to their lot there were no available vehicles, no greeter from Alamo and no Alamo kiosk to get assistance. I called Alamo only to be told I had to go to the Alamo desk, but there were no Alamo employees present. I finally managed to find a guy in the garage that was working for Alamo and he told me I had to go to the National kiosk if I need assistance with an Alamo rental. There is no sign that mentions this crucial bit of info. The National folks were able to get me a vehicle, finally. It took me an hour and a half from the point I got to their garage to getting a vehicle. This is the last time I ever use Alamo for a rental.

2022-04-09Weve had a good experience at the counter. Very friendly person who listened to us, wasnt in a hurry and at the time to pick up the car, the guy was friendly and gave us an option between two good vehicles that were clean and ready to drive. At the return, it was fast and totally hassle free. Id recommend Alamo at San Jose International Airport.

2022-01-26All of the other companies had no cars to offer me, almost gave up till I decided to give Alamo a try. The sales rep was informative and it was a fairly easy transaction! We received a Mitsubishi Outlander SUV and it got us from point A to point B.

2022-04-19This is kind of a split review. The first part of this experience was amazing, and then the second part was annoying, like a 5 star and a 2 star. Ill give it 3 stars overall.I rented a luxury sedan (Elite Class) for a round trip visit to Las Vegas from San Jose. I show up, it was fast to pick up the car, the attendants at SJC airport were great, and offered me a BMW 540i for the trip after I asked for something nice. It was fantastic and wonderful, I was very very happy. The only nit part of this trip was that there were 2 pieces of garbage left in the car, but it wasnt bad.I drive to Las Vegas, and the car was perfect. I get to Vegas and I get a giant nail in the tire, not Alamos fault, but call the roadside service number, and Im told that I have to take it to the Las Vegas Airport rental center to exchange. I was 5 minutes away from from the Airport with a flat. This took nearly 2 hours, and I was given a row of SUVs to choose from, I really wanted a sedan, but got a SUV instead, an Audi Q5.I know the SUV costs more to rent, but I would have thought the Las Vegas site would have more options, but once again this was out of Alamos responsibility. However, I give Alamo 2 stars for this portion of the trip for 2 main reasons. 1) The car had a horrendous rattle in the left rear quarter panel when driving over anything but perfect roads and 2) the spare tire was broken (uninflated, sidewall collapsed - I found it looking for the source of the rattle). I was driving in dessert areas after getting a flat, with no spare tire.I didnt want to spend 2+ more hours of my vacation driving back and exchanging the car again, so I kept a annoying and possibly unequipped car for 10 or my 11 days of rental. Definitely not the nicer car experience I wished for when I spent the extra money.TL:DR, Cars could be cleaned and maintained better, exchanges for flats can take a long time, wished I could have enjoyed the car more for a long trip, but car had issues.
