All went the way it was supposed to be. Easy to pick the car up once we arrived at the car rental center. The car drove flawlessly. Easy to drop the car off at a different airport before our trip home. Thank you Alamo for a job well done. Now if you could do something about the price of gas in California.
My wife and I recently had two rental occasions for an automobile. We rented in Phoenix AZ and San Diego CA and had SUVs in both cases. Rental checkout and return was nearly seamless and the return was very good in both cases. Autos were clean and great condition. No surprises which was our goal! We will rent from Alamo again!
Alamo is always my go to rental choice. This location was very helpful and made an upgrade at a reasonable cost available upon inquiry when the class I had booked wasnt going to work for us. You are able to chose the vehicle you want from the garage. Few things to improve: Unlike other alamo locations you have to wait in line before heading to the garage. even if you are a member of their club and have checked in online. Their kiosks also never work for Canadian drivers licenses.
Ok, this is a little more complicated than a typical review. Long story short: very bad experience with Budget last summer. Charged us for damage we didnt do to the car. I even wrote the CEO and corporate customer service. Nothing worked. Fine. Weve rented from Alamo 3 times in a row as a response. The prices are good, the service is fantastic. This last rental, the car had > 50k miles on it. Nissan Altima. I never look at cars when we rent them, but when we drove out of the lot, the lot attendant saw that the car had a bunch of dings and dents already on it. She stopped us, walked around the vehicle and noted *everything*, and gave me a special card with all the damage noted, and I showed that when I came back. How awesome is that? The lot attendant was *proactive* is trying to prevent us being liable for any damage to the car. Counter that vs Budget, who nickel and dimed us for damage *that we didnt cause*. Alamo is awesome, and the car was perfectly fine too. :-)
I had an awesome experience with Alamo Rent A Car. But returning my vehicle the person who check me in was so awesome. She was so on point with her job on returns. I had a issue with my car shaking at a certain mph really bad. I wasn’t upset just concerned and upon my return I explained the problem, and the way she handled her business was amazing.
Recently rented an SUV from San Diego airport. The self check-in terminal was easy to use and allowed me to skip the customer counter. I was then directed to pick an SUV that I want from the lot and was out of the rental parking after 10 minutes. Very efficient process and the vehicle was very clean.
I had to try several cars to see which had connection for my phone for map navigation. After several trys, and help from the check-out customer service agent at the gate, I did finally find one. Alamo should list the cars with navigation capacity and those that dont before you rent the car. Otherwise a good rental experience
(San Diego Airport) I booked online, and I didnt have to stand in line at the airport counter....I just followed the signs...picked a car...drove to the exit for ID verification...and I was on my way in 5 minutes!!! AMAZING!!!Returning my car was just as easy! Drove into the garage...parked...grabbed my bags...left the keys in the car...and rode the shuttle to the airport.
Alamo customer service is top notch by phone, online, and in person. This trip we rented a Dodge Challenger from the San Diego airport location. The car operated fine, but felt a bit beat up on the inside and had almost 50,000 miles on it already. Our customer service experience was great as always, but we would not rent that car again.
We would not rent again from Alamo unfortunately. We rented from the Alamo at the San Diego airport. The employee was very nice but unfortunately we later learned he wasnt truthful with us. After seeing the sign showing us what gas prices were in the San Diego airport we opted to pre pay for gas and bring the car back on empty. What a huge mistake and we sure learned never to do that again! The published prices were inflated by at least 30 cents so we already over paid. We then learned, upon returning the car, numerous phone calls with Alamo, and studying our receipt, that we had to pay an additional $30 on top of already inflated gas prices, in taxes and fees. What?! This $30 was just because we bought $97.80 worth of pre-pay gas. This was $30 more than the already $100+ fees. We also were overcharged $12/day and when I called on 6/18 I was told it would be refunded within a couple of days. 2 weeks later and its still not refunded. I called again and was treated like I didnt understand what I was being told but was finally assured I will be refunded the overage (but not the overpriced, dishonest gas price or $30 in fees) of daily rate. I have zero desire to rent from Alamo again. I have never had these issues with the other rental car companies.
An infuriating and disappointing chapter of an otherwise amazing road trip through Southern Utah. My advice: dont waste your time renting from Enterprise, Alamo, National, etc. (especially the SD Airport branch). When I first arrived at the agency, I was told there were no RAV4-like vehicles available (what I had reserved) and was given a large SUV.Id not even driven it past San Onofre when the first of many TPMS lights turns on. I put air in the tires and wait for the light to turn off. After a few cycles of this, I discovered what the issue was when my right rear tire blew up (literally blew up - see pics) on the freeway, taking the entire wheel housing and much of the bumper with it - a terrifying experience for me and my 3 passengers. The manager, Robert Perris, informs me that the tires had been inspected prior to my driving the vehicle and (get this), he has personally reviewed the tapes of the inspection. What is this, the NFL? Whether you reviewed tapes or not or whether your employees gave the tires a satisfactory rating is of no concern to me. Here are the facts:After immediately calling Alamo Roadside Assistance and being put on hold for over 45 minutes, a helpful motorist stopped to assist us with the tire change, however when we opened the spare tire housing, there was no spare. Now, the manager assures me that some models of vehicles do not come with a spare. I hope for all future renters sake that this last bit is not true. But whether your employees forgot the spare or it just didnt come with one, well, frankly, Im not sure which is worse.I finally called AAA to tow us to the nearest town (after an hour in the blazing sun), and when we pulled into the Chevron, the head repairman told me that both rear tires were at dangerously low tread. I was not taking this vehicle off-roading. In fact, I was strictly freeway for 99% of my trip thus far, however Manager Robert Perris insists that somewhere between his employees inspecting the tires and the tire blowing, I am at fault for the dangerously low tread.I was assured on the phone with customer service that I would be reimbursed for the tow and twin tire replacement (a total of $481.72 out of pocket) and so I signed off on having the work done. Of course, when I arrived to drop off the car, the office informed me they possessed no notes from customer service in this regard. (This ones on me, yall. ALWAYS get it in writing.)Knowing that Id be driving back through 116-degree LV desert and, oh yeah, now the coolant level is suddenly empty, I decided to exchange the car. Of course the nearest location had 0 SUVs, so I settled for a minivan.I expected to be reimbursed immediately for my expenses and to be refunded for the rental fee. Instead, I was greeted with a difficult employee who told me he would deduct the cost of the tires/tow from my total (~15% discount). When I told him that was unacceptable, he told me there was nothing he could do, but that I could call the Manager, Robert Perris, who would have the authority to reimburse me by check or cash. I did just that, and after dealing with looping customer service dialogue options, I decided to return in person.Robert told me that he did not have the authority to help me any further and that he would speak to his Area Manager ASAP to see what else we can do. I guess that turned about to be nothing, because today he called me and told me that Im responsible for the damage to the car. Then he accused me of over-inflating the tires, which was the only reason he could think they would have blown. If that were the case, then why did your TPMS light come on before I even touched the tires? And why did the Chevron repairman tell me both rear tires had dangerously low tread? Also, Im not an idiot. Such accusations astounded me beyond belief and, after realizing that he was playing the offensive to save his hide from his own management, I settled for writing this brief literature and taking my lumps. Queue Customer Service is of utmost importance... saving-face response by management.
I had a great experience renting a car with Alamo. The staff met me as I walked over, and the rep was super nice and helpful. He let me pick out the model I wanted, and it was incredible! Their safety and cleanliness were top-notch. The return process was just as easy! I will definitely rent using Alamo again. It was a very positive experience.
Check-in was super fast and easy. We arrived kinda late, around 7pm, so we were the only ones there. Car pick was was simple, up the stairs, the cars are separated by types, and you just pick whichever you want, grab the keys (already in vehicle) and go. Car return was just as easy, drove to location, the service members were all incredibly friendly and cheerful. Excellent car rental experience here!
Prices was good and there was not a lot of up sale. Although I was sign up for express check in, it still took longer than I wanted. The kiosk did not work well for other customers. I wanted a truly express check in like National, where you enter all your information and go directly to your car. No need to go to the counter for up sale on insurance. All that other items, I would have selected if I wanted during the reservation portion. Return was easy though. I just park and go. Take a page from National since you guys are basically one company and give your return customers faster check in.
We rented a car at Alamo for our August vacation in the San Diego, CA area. The pickup service is on kiosks now but the customer service rep was very helpful and even helped us with an upgrade we needed because we had four adults luggage. Car pickup was easy, we had no problems with the car and drop off was very easy. I was glad we booked early because I know how hard it is to find a rental car right now, but our upgrade was easy. Great service at all points!
Vehicle checkout was quick and easy, there were multiple vehicles to select from. However, the vehicle I chose smelled like someone had smoked in it. It smelled like Alamo had cleaned the car, but cigarette smoke is a hard smell to get out of a car. I was concerned that I would get hit with the smoking cleaning fee, but that didnt happen. All in all I would recommend them if you need a rental car.
Rented at San Diego airport. Booked online through hotwire for a pickup truck (cheapest). At the rental counter, the sales rep was extremely pleasant and expeditious. I didnt want coverage and there was no hard sell. He could tell by my rental dates that I wouldnt want the prepaid gas (would not use much, so why buy a tank). From the counter, at the station with cars, the attendant there was very nice and since they had no pick up trucks, offered me a 4 runner (great). Car was great shape and clean. Lastly, person checking out the car by the exit was very personable. The whole system was smooth and seamless and was very quick.
Car rentals have become streamlined at the San Diego International Airport. After your flight arrives, follow the signage to the Rental Car Shuttle. One shuttle takes you to all the different agencies. After getting off the shuttle follow the signs to your particular agency. Their counters are all right next to each other. I used Alamo this time around.I used the kiosk to check in a couple hours prior to my default reservation time of noon. No problem. An employee was standing by and the second I finished the kiosk transaction he stepped in to ask if I had any additional questions. He gave be directions to the escalator that took me up to the Alamo level where the cars were parked. Just a few steps off the escalator while I pulled out my paperwork to confirm the class of car I had reserved, I was greeted by an Alamo employee who directed me to the area that contained my class. There were a handful of cars to choose from. I picked a nice little Hyundai Kona SUV. It met my needs quite nicely for my week visiting family. It had plenty of power (I wish I had found sport mode sooner) for my drive up Wildcat Canyon Road. A week later, I returned my car prior to the default time of noon and Alamo recognized that and adjusted my rental charge accordingly. It was such a smooth transaction I would not hesitate to rent from Alamo again.
My reservation was good that I placed months ago through Costco travel. I have been using them for years to get the best price. What was different is the up sell to a larger car by $77+. The car was good , but they may not have had the best special price car originally booked at a lower cost. Prices are a lot higher than a few years ago. They did not seem to have any shortage at San Diego airport but higher priced vans, suv, sport cars. They did have only 4 Malibu left to pick from. No other brands. At least there were car there to rent. Trip and driving was good. Car gas mileage was good because gas was expensive. Will be renting again in the future but hope the cost is less.
A mixed bag. Getting the car was painful, took an hour but the person at the desk was helpful and pleasant. One of the desk people had told the people waiting it would be quicker if we used the kiosk, after two people tried and couldn’t get the kiosk to work I decided to wait in line. The car I finally rented was nice, except the Sirius XM I paid extra for was nonexistent. And finally after being told an upgraded car would be $50 for the week, I was charged $225. They refunded $37.
Booked ahead of time. Shuttle bus from airport takes you to and from rental car garage to Alamo. Showed reservation and went to 2nd floor quickly shown to my choice of cars. Return car to parking garage. Followed signs to the Alamo and there employees directing us and checking our car in was even easier. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. I like traveling with Alamo!!
Using the COSTCO TRAVEL website I booked a “Premium SUV”, believing that that class of vehicle would meet my need for an 8-passenger vehicle. Upon arriving at the Alamo Rental Office I was informed by “Ali” that what I had actually booked was a “Premium ELITE SUV’, which seated only five passengers. If I needed a vehicle seating 8 passengers I would need to upgrade to a larger class of SUV. I thought that that was what I had originally booked. Checking on both websites later, the Alamo website listed a Premium Elite SUV class of vehicle but the COSTCO TRAVEL website did not. Even if I had wanted to reserve a “premium elite SUV”, I wouldn’t have been able to do so.Being in a hurry, I decided not to argue the matter and signed for the vehichle anyway, agreeing to the rental charge that was almost double what it was on my original COSTCO reservation. HUGE MISTAKE.Upon returning the vehicle to Alamo I called up Alamo Customer Service to discuss changing the rental rate back to what I had originally reserved. “Eric”, the local station manager initially reached out to me via email, but never followed up.I filed a dispute with AMEX, who in the end, sided with Alamo.I learned some very important lesssons with this unfortunate experience at Alamo San Diego Airport. 1: DO NOT accept the rental charges if they were due to an upsell that you did not consent to at the time you made the reservation. 2: Be willing to walk away and make alternative plans.I should have argued the point with “Ali” at the time of my rental that the lower rate for the larger SUV that I had agreed to pay on the COSTCO website was what I was entitled to since the smaller “Premium ELITE SUV” class wasn’t even an option on the COSTCO website. How could I have reserved a vehicle smaller than I had wanted if that smaller class of vehicle wasn’t even listed? This whole rental experience with Alamo, which effectively doubled the cost of my rental from $440 to over $800, left a very bad taste in my mouth. I used to rent from Alamo twice or three times a year.I feel cheated. I was deceived into renting the vehicle I wanted at double the price I had originally agreed to, I will not be renting from them anymore. Ever. These guys are THIEVES.
Rented a car from Alamo through Chase bank. Returned it with no issues. A few days after they charged us on our card an exorbitant fee for gas. The charges went through. 3 weeks later we are getting letters from their collection agency threatening us saying we hadn’t paid. I called the number, the lady on the phone is telling me that yes it showed we paid but we still have to talk to their collection agency. I emailed two addresses on the bill. One replied saying our account was paid in full, the other is telling us to call them and take care of the matter. NEVER will I ever use them again even though I travel a lot. I advise anyone using them to be very careful! Better yet, find a better rental company!
We have had some terrible experiences renting cars. This has been the most amazing one by far! They made it so easy to pick up the car. The car was cleaned, smelled great, and was exactly what we were expecting. They even gave us options when picking the car up! Will def be choosing Alamo over other rental places!
Super easy experience! I checked out from their San Diego Airport location using their self checkout machines (due to the line). The machine was a little slow and confusing (like most self-checkout machines) but it worked and we were on our way! Much quicker than Hertz for me. The Toyota Corolla we got was beautiful! Would definitely use Alamo again!
Very very dissatisfied with latest rental. The car I received was beyond acceptable. The car smelled and stains in the inside. The exterior was banged up with dents, scratches, pieces that were about to fall off, windows you could barley see out of.Would of been nice to listen to music but seemed that the speakers were blown out. And you got barely any sound out of.Check in process was ok, tried the kiosk but failed. Counter agent was nice and friendly and professional.Price of the car I paid to rent and what condition of car I got was not worth the price. Car had high miles (almost 36,000). This time around wasn’t a pleasant experience.
We arrived in San Diego Airport close to midnight, & previously booked a car @ Mex car rental, which apparently no one at the car rental area has ever heard of. When we called the # for Mex car rental, the offices were off site & closed. We were up for almost 24 hrs, & a wonderful & professional representative @ Alamo came to the rescue. I wish I wrote his name down when we asked; but I didn’t, so now his name escapes me. I like to give credit where it’s due, so I hope my description helps his superiors to commend him. He has only been there for 2 weeks, yet his professional & courteous disposition worked miracles. Everyone was out of cars with the exception of one, & he called everywhere to get us a vehicle. These technologically challenged grandparents are so grateful for this friendly multitasking angel. He is certainly an asset to the Alamo organization & society in general.
Line was long at check-in but thank goodness for self serve kiosk in San Diego. Then, got up to the cars and there were still not a ton (since COVID, I’ve rented in San Diego at least 8-10 times and the lot literally had 10 cars for all carriers at one point) of choices, this time 2. I was sad that a KIA Sorrento was my only two choices, but when I actually got to drive it, I was happily surprised. I’m in the market for a daughters 1st car and I will be looking into them.
Rented out of San Diego airport. The rental line was long and slow and only one person on duty around noon on a Sunday morning. On chatting with others in line, most all had reservations, but no one was using the kiosks because “they didn’t work”. I tried and came to the same conclusion. However, the line wasn’t moving so I left my wife in line and tried the kiosk again. There were no instructions on how to use the kiosk, but after multiple attempts I was able to figure out the card reader, got into the system, printed my rental agreement and went to pick up my car. From that point on, it was a piece of cake. It took less than 5 min to get my car and get on the road. Return at the end of the week was also quick and easy.Alamo needs to post some helpful instructions by the kiosks! If they had been easier to use, the one agent would not have been overwhelmed and all those folks waiting in line for longer than the their flights took to get there would have been on their way. This should be an easy fix.
I recently rented a car for a weekend. I was fortunate that I had signed-upahead of time because there were many people standing in line without prior arrangements. Our car was new, clean, and ready for us. All of this took minutes. The personnel was very friendly and efficient. When I returned the car the process again was very quick and easy. I would definitely rent a car from Alamo again.
Every time I visit San Diego, which is often, I ONLY use Alamo for my car rental. Not only are their cars clean and running properly, but their customer service is outstanding! My husband is 64 and during one of our visits, we quickly learned that the choice options for us were limited due to his height, but Alamo came through! They offered us a free upgrade without any questions or fuss. Thanks for always being reliable when far from home :)
Rented a intermediate SUV while in San Diego. Reserved the vehicle through the Costco Travel website and got a heck of a deal. Checked in online and was hoping when I got to the rental car area at the airport I would got straight to the vehicle. Instead I still had to checkin at the counter and then proceed to the vehicles. Once at the vehicles the Alamo team member showed me three vehicles to choose from. I picked a Chevy Equinox because it had Apple Carplay. Vehicle was nice and clean inside. Experience was good. My only complaint is if you have a Alamo member number you should be able to bypass the line like other rental car companies offer.
We always rent from Alamo because service is always good, however this time they over charge me when I returned the car and the young guy that we return the car didn’t said hi and how was the car and didn’t even tell us the amount. When we picked up the car the guy looked at our paper and said we can choose these cars. He let us choose a van, the car we took and another one. When I got home I realize that the price we paid was $92.97 over.I called at 1:45pm Hawaii time and talked with Danielle on April 26, 2021. She was nice and corrected it, however looking at her receipt it stilled looked wrong. The call ended at 2:14pm Hawaii time. The reference #36854783.Our original car rental was 948327592We have 2 more cars renting from Alamo and hope this doesn’t happened again. We thank you for your time and we greatly appreciate you fix our bill.
We rented a vehicle on Wednesday at 1pm, and the sales associate informed us we had the rental until Friday at 1pm. We needed to extend our rental, and when we did (over the phone), we were informed that we had to return the vehicle on Thursday at 6pm. Because of that and the need to extend our rental, we had to pay an additional $150 for 24 more hours. We came back to return the vehicle on Saturday at 1pm and Jim took extremely great care of us, explained the confusion, and gave us a reimbursement. We will definitely rent from Alamo every trip! Great customer service :))
Arrived at SD Airport location to pick up the car, the clerk was cordial but not friendly. Not a local guy. Had two cars to choose from both had been smoked in. Choose the Malibu. Stinker car, cigarette smoke. The intermittent wiper was broken. The fuel was at 3/4 a tank. Other then these issues the process was easy, car ran good. Upon returning the return agent gave me a token credit which was appreciated. He was customer service oriented, Turned a disappointment in to a return customer. Thanks
Always use Alamo. Have never had a problem with anything. Check in process is quick and easy. Car that I reserved is available but if not am always offered an upgrade. Once tried a cheaper rental car company and it was a bad experience in every way and paid more in the end. Will always stick with Alamo.
Alamo was a life saver after we were scammed from a different car rental company that we had previously booked with in San Diego. After asking many car companies for a car the same day that we landed, Alamo was able to help us out and said that even though they don’t normally do this they heard our story and were able to get a car cleaned and ready for us as it just returned to them. They saved our trip and gave us a decent price. Would recommend! Thank you Alamo!
Alamo left us stranded. After renting a vehicle from them, paying for the upgraded CDW insurance, following all of their procedures, they left us stranded after a serious accident. They promised us a replacement vehicle the next morning. It would be 2 days and several hours on the phone before we would see a replacement vehicle. In the meantime, the hotel we we’re staying in would not allow us to wait there and would not accommodate us for additional nights. We had to walk to another hotel with all of the luggage we had from our hotel and what we had stored in the vehicle — in 100+ degree heat to a new hotel. No offer of help from Alamo. They don’t have Lyft or Uber drivers or taxis in the city we were in. Did Alamo care? No. It was the weekend and they couldn’t be bothered. Did they offer to contact our hotel? No. A towing company to help move our stuff? No.Just hours on the phone and promises to deliver a vehicle 3x. Each time followed by a notification that the vehicle wouldn’t arrive. The regional Vice President told me he would call me back once the car was delivered to work out an arrangement for the rental time we paid for and didn’t have a car. He didn’t.I ask you, would you rent from this company again or recommend them?
4.5 Stars! Ive rented from Alamo now on 2 different occasions for personal travel and have been pleasantly surprised. I typically use Avis or Hertz for business travel, however I found better deals with Alamo for personal use and both times Ive had very good service. The selection, quality and cleanliness of the cars have been excellent. The only negative comment keeping this from 5 Stars is the website and frequent traveler program is not the most intuitive, but that is minor.
I am upgrading my review a star. We rented again Oct 15 -19 and this time, we got the intermediate SUV class we requested - a really nice blue Rav4.Both times, counter/check-in and return were hassle free and efficient.---------------------------------------------------------I rented at San Diego Sep 16 - Sep 25.I know there are no guarantees for cars but paid for a Full size + LDW + Gas which was a lot of money and was given a Mazda3. Is a Mazda3 considered full size these days - 3 people and 6 bags did not fit. The counter person was pleasant but unsympathetic and felt we could squeeze in. lol.The car had no manual in the glove box so we had to look up how to operate the care on the internet.Other than that, check-in/checkout was pretty efficient.
The Jeep was so fun to drive, perfect for the California summer! However, I had a little issue with my car; however, I quickly called the customer service number. Let me say, the service that I received was super amazing! Once I returned the car, I also explained the issue that I experienced and the manager on duty quickly resolved the issue and was super apologetic. Thank you Alamo for the amazing Jeep and customer service!
So Easy, So Smooth.Reserved a car online, went into the car rental office and noticed there was some kiosk to get checked in if you had already made reservations. I didn’t wait in line, I used the kiosk, went upstairs, was greeted by a friendly Alamo employee.Keys are in the cars, you pick from whatever size you reserved. We ended up upgrading and it was easy as can be. I let the Alamo employee know we were interested in upgrading, she told me how it would cost extra and said we could go pick the car we wanted. We loaded up in the upgrade while she got the paperwork done, which took two minutes max. And we were on our way. I cannot stress how easy this car rental was. I’ve rented a few cars in my past and it’s not ever been this easy and smooth. Definitely using Alamo again!
Cant say enough good things about our experience renting from Alamo! We rented one way, San Diego to Los Angeles (no drop off fee). Picking up our car from San Diego Airport was easy and quick with the bus shuttle taking us to the rental car center with all agencies in the same building. Check-in was super easy and quick, no waiting. Agent was very helpful and always with a smile, never any pressure to purchase additional insurance, etc. We were also upgraded at no cost. Were told to pick any vehicle in a designated are so we chose a brand new (2000 miles) 2020 Ford Fusion with all the bells and whistles on it. Had a lot fun driving it! Return at LAX was very quick and easy. The cost of the rental was also less than any of the other big agencies. Will definitely use Alamo on our next trip! Kudos to Alamo for making car rental stress-free and pleasant!!!
I reserved a car on or about 30 March 20121for my daughters wedding, well before the rental car shortage. Check in went smooth, without any delays. After arriving upstairs I was told there were no Cadillacs or luxury cars of that class available but that I could upgrade. There was only one car that I could upgrade to with no additional cost. That was an Audi Quatro SportBack. Knowing Audi is normally a luxury car that was basically my only choice with paying big bucks for anything else. The Audi was a nice car until you get it on the road. I am only 511 and I had to bend in half almost to get inside, especially while parking anyplace. The Audi was only semi comfortable and I felt every single bump in the road on the SoCal freeways. And there were a lot of them. The 2 stars is only because of the AUDI. Turn in was quick and easy.
Very happy with my rental experience at Alamo in San Diego. Easy check in and easy drop off. Both took less than 5 minutes total. We arrived late in the evening so our reserved standard SUV was not available and was given a very nice large SUV for the same price. I will be using Alamo again.
I arrived at Alamo and was out of the rental office in 10 minutes. They directed me to the Alamo pick-up office where I was met immediately by an Alamo employee who asked for my paper work. They directed me to a group of vehicles and told me that I could choose whatever vehicle I liked. I was away and on the road in 10 minutes. The car was clean. No, it was immaculate. I had absolutely no problems with the car at all. When I returned it, the Alamo return agent scanned the car and then told me the amount that would be charged to my card. It was actually lower than the amount on my reservation. Excellent.
Awesome service & real easy simple process picking up and dropping off a car - fulfilled one of my ambitions of driving a muscle car from LAX to San Diego - unforgettable experience & thanks Alamo for making it happen without being ripped off! Will definitely do this again if I ever get the opportunity
We recently rented a vehicle from Alamo at the San Diego airport. We rented a midsize SUV and found the selection to be excellent. All of the vehicle choices were newer and in great condition. The check in and check out process was very easy. I would definitely use Alamo again.
I was very unhappy with their customer service. I personally called their call center to ask if I would be charged extra for picking up a vehicle 5 hours early than what I scheduled and I was by their call center agent that I would not be charged extra. I arrived at the San Diego airport Alamo rental place only to be told that I would be charged extra for picking up earlier. I explained to them that I was given the wrong information by their call center and they didn’t care so I had to drive back home which was 45 mins away and wasted my gas because Alamo employees do not know their own policies and then make the customers pay for their lack of knowledge. I will never rent a vehicle from this company again
Alamo has the best employees and service, it is what makes them stand out from other car rental companies. My last trip was a great example. the check in was fast and easy with a very pleasant representative, no hard sell for upcharges, and she was knowledgeable and efficient as well as courteous. Returning the car was also fast and easy with a man who genuinely seemed interested in my experience with the car and my trip. I will continue to use Alamo for all my car rentals.
Absolutely incredible customer service from the manager. Left a jacket in my car return and realized on the way to the terminal. Nightmare. Sprinted to the shuttle back and the manager literally drifted to go check for the jacket. Found it and still had 30 mins to hop on the shuttle back to the terminal. Will we make the flight? Who knows, I’m literally writing this from the bus to the terminal, but I felt so compelled that I had to review. Alamo manager (I don’t know your name) - you’re a G!!! Give them your money.
Process was very quick for both pick up and return the rental car. They let you choose from several different vehicles.Price was the best among other companies.I wish they had more Vw and Acura options (most of them I think were Hyundai). My next car rental will most likely be from Alamo again.
Everything was easy about check in and check out. The vehicle (2021 Ford expedition max) was brand new and in great condition. The only thing I can recall was the check engine light was on, odd for a brand new vehicle. It never became an issue for us so minor inconvenience. Good experience overall.
The experience checking in was easy the desk clerck was friendly and informative. The biggest draw back, was that the vehicle i specifically reserved was leased out the day i arrived. No reason to pay all the extra money for a luxury vehicle if its not going to be there when you arrive. So three stars for the desk clerks/ human interaction. Zero stars for not holding a specific reserve.
I had a good experience renting in San Diego. The check in process was a little confusing. There are self service kiosks and regular agents, but there was only one queue for both. I opted for the self service kiosk and it was easy to use. Everything else about the rental process was quick and easy. The return area staff were friendly and helpful.
I have rented a car in San Diego many times for many years and Alamo consistently has the better price for cars. The cars are very nice, always run well, and driving out of the facility and returns are a breeze. San Diego has one of the best off site airport systems, especially with the transportation to and from the airport. The only slow process is going through the agents at the kiosk to get the paperwork in order to drive off in the car you pick out. The system always takes a minimum of an hour to get through the long line with no benches or chairs. I have tried numerous times to self checkout at the machine kiosks, and it never has my reservation, so it says. That is my only frustration with getting my car in beautiful San Diego. The good news, right outside the door is a place to buy refreshments (we think we noticed them selling alcohol, too) which you may need due to the time it takes to stand in line with a reservation and be asked about all of their upgrades.
Overall, a pleasant experience renting from Alamo at the San Diego Airport. Check-in was easy and the staff were helpful.Picked out a clean Ford Fusion Titanium for my full size car that supported Android Auto, so my maps and music were easily accessible. The return was also very smooth and easy and I was on my way back to the terminal with minimal delay.Cant say Im a fan of the airport itself, but Alamo at least made the rental car experience pleasant.
From what I can remember, using Alamo to rent a vehicle from the San Diego airport (twice) has been a hassle-free experience and Ill most likely use Alamo again when I travel. Picking up the vehicle has never been easier--while time spent at the check-in desk has been minimal, the agents(?) Ive dealt with have always been extremely courteous and friendly. I like having my choice of vehicles, which are always clean and well-maintained. Returning the car is an even smoother transaction, as youre guided by attendants to park the car. As were unloading our luggage, the attendant makes a quick overall inspection of the vehicle before issuing a receipt from a handheld device right there on the spot. As long as Alamo maintains a greet fleet of vehicles, great customer service and COMPETITIVE RATES, well keep renting from them. Thank you, Alamo! :)
Multiple problems at check in:1. Long line with only one attendant2. Multiple kiosks available to sign in, so I left line and went through 5 minutes of questions, then kiosk said I had to go through the line anyway, and 2 more people had entered the line, so I was FURTHER back in line than when I started.3. Attendant had thick accent. With masks and lucite partition, I had trouble understanding that he upsold me to a nicer car until I walked away from the counter. Luckily, I was able to change it upstairs in the car pick up area.4. All Alamo gates were closed when I drove away. When I drove back, the attendant said I had to exit through the Enterprise exit. It would have been nice to know that in advance.5. When I reached the exit gate, the attendant asked if there were any problems with the car. At that time, I looked at the dash and saw that the wiper fluid indicator said Low. But I was about to drive and and was already frustrated by #1-4.
Our experience was great. We made a trip to San Diego for my girlfriends birthday. The specific color and make of the convertible that she wanted was not available at the time. The manager saw her birthday mask and went to a few other car rental agencies to ensure that my girlfriend got what she wanted for her special day and trip. I wish I had gotten the managers name and the other worker that assisted. They went above and beyond. Our entire trip was fantastic and it started with the great help we got at Alamo at San Diego International Airport.
This was my first time using Alamo. They were great every step of the way. In the past I had another rental car company try to add services even though they were declined. That company was Dollar, stay away from them. With Alamo, the whole process was great. Every person I came in contact with was excellent. I will definitely use them in the future. I also highly recommend them.
Reserved an economy car online, when arrived Alamo told me economy car unsafe, forced me to upgrade and pay a lot more than advertised online, then a week after returned car they claimed damage that was non-existent and put me through wringer to get more money, eventually they had to drop case due to lack of evidence. Overall I paid more then renting elsewhere and had a lot of hassle. This company is very bad to its customers, find something better and avoid the headache.
The bus service was ok provided by San Diego International Airport, but once at Rental Car Center everything was well marked. Alamo and sister companies have someone available after hours when office was closed. Staff was kind and quick to complete the check-in. Car was clean and no problems. Return area was well marked and quick.
When I rent a car I typically shop for the best value and more often then not it seems Alamo always comes up. The check in and check out process is very quick normally. I have rented from many locations over the years and have no complaints. Will be renting from them again in the future I am sure.
We did not have a good experience with Alamo. The vehicle we rented was a van and the sliding door randomly shut, without prompting or hitting keys. It closed on my daughters hand. Luckily no broken bones or anything. I called to get a different vehicle. The person I spoke with said they contacted another place and they had a van waiting. We drove there and the manager said she never had received anything about us and she didnt have any vans available. The next day, the same thing happened. The door issue kept on happening the whole trip. When returning the vehicle, they said I would receive a phone call from Alamo within 24 hours and I still havent heard anything and it has been over a week and a half. Very disappointed in their customer service. I hope someone will read this and reach out.
While my reservation was with Alamo because the ticket counter was not open I ended up dealing with enterprise. While everyone was pleasant and helpful I was under the impression that I was renting a car from Alamo. I believe Im not real sure that the intermediate types of cars are different between companies. But like I said the staff with enterprise was very courteous and helpful there was no issue with the car itself I just thought I was getting a different type of car. I did not know that the counter for alimony did not open until after 10:00 a.m.
I recently rented a car from Alamo for a San Diego/Scottsdale vacation. The people at the pickup were very pleasant. There was even a mgr in the garage helping people pick out there cars. She was very pleasant and assisted me with getting a Ford Flex car. It worked great for my travels. The car was clean and ran nicely. We def used the AC on this trip. AZ was warm. All in all it was a great rental for me and my family. The one thing that got me in the end was I had secured this rental for 477.00 for the 2 weeks and thats what I was expecting to see on the invoice as the bottom line. For some reason there was a line item at the end with no explanation for a total of 24.19. No one at Alamo could explain what it was for and I conferred with 3-4 representatives. Of course I can afford to pay this charge but no one could tell me what it was for above and beyond the 477.00. I had to let it go and just accept the charge. No big deal.Great rental. Love AlamoTom Donnelly
This was easily the smoothest rental car experience Ive ever had. Unlike other airports, all the rental car places are in one building and the shuttle from the air port to the center is well marked. You dont have to look for one brand or another, its just one shuttle and they take you to the right door in the rental center terminal. So easy, why doesnt every air port do this? The Alamo guy offered me an excellent, affordable upgrade (which I didnt take but it was a good offer), the paper work was all ready done. The rate I got for being a member and booking online was far better than any other place I had looked at. 213$ for a mis size SUV for 3 days with gas. I took the keys, walked up one escalator, handed my paper to another attendant, she led me over to a row of cars to choose from, all were in great shape, clean and full of gas. I picked. Hyundai Kona. I prepaid for the full tank so I returned it nearly empty, the return process was just as smooth even though we returned at 4am, I cant stress enough how easy it was to only look for one place to return the car and not have to sleuth out some side road at the air port for one specific brands trailer office and parking lot. Highly recommend this Alamo and renting a car out of SAN in general.
I have been renting from ALAMO for the last 20 years. This time I rented a Ford Fusion for a two week road trip from San Diego to the Northwest. The check-in and return were fast and the employees were very friendly. The vehicle, which started at 28,000 miles, was clean and well prepared for the trip. The vehicle performed perfectly in all the trip driving conditions: urban, state/federal highways, desert and national parks.
I love Alamo. The cars are always clean, great rates and excellent customer service.I had an issue with my most current rental and they handled it without a problem, which is what keeps me coming back. I have used Alamo for years and this was my first issue, the customer service was amazing. I will never rent from anyone else.
We rented a car in San Diego and dropped it off at LAX. Costumer service was excellent at both locations. Pick up was quick and so was the drop off process. We even had our flight canceled and had to keep the car for an extra day. That was no extra charge. I don’t normally do reviews, but I felt obligated with how great our experience was.
Watch out for Ali. Hes a deceitful, slide-of-hand swindler who will ask if you like a certain model of car (...as if anyone cares), then he will add a $69 upgrade without telling you what hes doing. Luckily, I looked at what he did to my invoice before I drove off. Very dishonest company. Also, my review is for sale. For $69 (the amount Alamo unsuccessfully tried to rob me of), I will delete this.
I found a great last minute booking with Alamo. It was my sons destination wedding weekend. I needed a large car and was greeted by friendly and professional staff, who set us up with a very nice Escalade. We didnt have to worry about multiple Uber rides and hoping to find a car big enough to fit us all. It really made our weekend that much more special. Ive always had good service from Alamo. They certainly exceeded my expectations this time!
We have always had a good experience with Alamo. This was our first time at the San Diego facility, and Alamo staff at the facility did not disappoint. Quick and easy check out and return process. Staff were super friendly and willing to help.I prepaid for the rental and then after returning the vehicle I was charged more. When I called Alamo customer service, that was a different experience. The lady was quite rude. The difference was due to the taxes and facility fee being off in the estimated total that I prepaid. I was not happy that no one told me this when I returned the car. They said we were all good but then turned around and charged me. A customer should not be charged without being told.
I was worried about renting a car after reading the reviews for the rental car companies at the San Diego Intl Airport. We were extremely pleased with our experience renting from Alamo!! It was seamless and painless.I purchased collision protection through Expedia when I booked because I didnt want to be pressured into purchasing collision protection at the rental car company. That wasnt an issue, though, since we checked in through a Kiosk. We didnt get any of the add ons - they were very pricey with a substantial daily charge for each item. The customer service when we picked up our car and checked out was great. They were very friendly and personal. Were LOVED being able to pick our car from the row in category we had reserved :) The car was in very nice/ clean condition and seemed pretty new. (I didnt check the year. )I also wanted to say thank you to the employee from the National Rental Car company who helped give us directions and was very gracious about helping us.
Poor customer service, solution focus, completion of processes. I got to the exit gate when I was inform my last names didnt match why was that not address at the counter or while I was loading the car. No gas package was asked about. Policy.on debit card use for different location drop off is silly and not listed on 3rd.party sites. I had to solve my own problem with no solutions or ideas from the company. Smh will never come back. All of this with 5 suitcars, car set and a young child at nite.
First time renting from Alamo, and will definitely be a returning customer! Multiple shuttles from the airport to the agency and not confusing at all. The check in process was fast with the self check in kiosks, I was in and out in less than 10 minutes! The check out process went super fast as well! 10/10
I love Alamo and their hospitality, I work for the airline industry and travelling has been made easy for us however knowing that we can get a car for a cheap price is something we will always be grateful for. THANK YOU ALAMO.You guys are the best I have tried various of rental companies but Alamo stays and will remain my top choice.
The 2 star for is having a reliable vehicle to transport my family to and from our destination. However, it should be one star because it was quite disgusting to realize after picking up the rental at the SD Alamo airport that the vehicle had not been sanitized nor cleaned. This is the second time that Ive rented a vehicle from the same location where they have displayed a sign stating that the car had been Alamo COVID Complete Clean Pledge and IT IS NOT. Get it right, Alamo! Perhaps its because the workers are just lazy and throw that the darn sign to mislead people but you should take pride in your work for your own sake.
Just got back from Las Vegas and San Diego and had a great experience (again!) with Alamo. The 3 cars we rented on our last trip were exactly what we reserved (except for San Diego which was an unexpected, free upgrade to a full size SUV). The staff are always professional, pleasant and helpful and this trip was no exception!
Pick up and drop off was extremely easy. I checked in online the day before my flight, then went to the kiosk and checked in at Alamo. They had 4 kiosks, so there was no wait. After the kiosk, you go upstairs, pick the car you want (the keys are in the car) and show the gate attendant your drivers licence and receipt. One of the easiest pick ups I have ever experienced. Drop off was the same, just pull up and someone checks you in and you can go to the shuttle to the airport. I will definitely be renting from Alamo at this location again.
PRO.1. Website was quite easy to navigate and pricing was straight forward.I had a question about one-way travel fees and the answer was provided in a quick email from/to me. Again, very straight forward.2. Service at the counter could not have been better in that the staff person was friendly, courteous, and very helpful. She explained where to find our car and then how to proceed out of the car lot.3. There was not an SUV in the size I requested, but Alamo gave me the next size without any extra charge.4. Returning the car was easy in that there was a place to set down our luggage right by the return slot. I was given sufficient time to take pictures of the car just in case there were any questions about damage. At least two people asked me if the car met our needs and if we experienced any issues with the car. Again, everyone was very courteous.5. The bus to return to LAX was right there, actually several buses were ready. The driver loaded and unloaded our suitcases. As with all the other staff he was friendly and helpful.CON -- the car could have been a tad cleaner. The inside windshield needed to be cleaned much better than it was.SUMMATION -- we will rent with Alamo again. This was our first time, but it will not be our last. GOOD PRICE AND GOOD SERVICE.
Check out/check in was fast and efficient. Upgraded car size at the desk, no problem. Associates offer extras (eg insurance), but there is no “selling” these. Final fees were exactly as shown (all fees and taxes) in the booking from the on-line site. Car was clean, new, ready to go. Good job Alamo!
My wife and I arrived late evening when the computer system was down so all the input was manual. I waited about 30 minutes before being helped. Then in the middle of the transaction the customer service person left the area to get a missing printer part but never said why he was leaving or where he was going - he had taken my credit card which caused me concern. He finally returned and then someone else took over my transaction. In the end all was fine-I got a clean low milage car at a good price and the return process was excellent. I would encourage Alamo to review its protocol on communication and handling customers in these situations. I would however give the staff credit for maintaining a positive attitude and not showing whatever pressure they were feeling to the customer.
My experience with Alamo was the norm, almost absolutely perfect! Just one thing, be aware that there is a catch when purchasing their fuel price option online. They may charge you in advance for a full tank of gas if you are not careful in reading the fine print. When I picked up my rental the fuel tank was full. After approximately 24 hours I had only consumed just a little over a quarter tank of fuel and the front-end representative could not adjust the cost upon my returning the rental. However, I did contact Alamo Customer Service and was credited the amount without any further ado. The credit was applied to my bank card prior to the overall deduction from my bank account. It worked out great!Alamo truly is top notch customer service and dedicated to customer satisfaction.Thank you Alamo! Im looking forward to continued outstanding business with you.Karen ArmstrongSan Diego, CA
I reserved a car and checked in online. Arrived at Alamo, and registered two additional drivers, was pleasantly surprised there was no hard-sell on insurance, which I didnt want. Check-in took less than 5 minutes, then we went out to pick out the car we wanted in the class (full size) that we had chosen - that was great! We had a choice of about 8 cars, picked one, and drove off. Very easy - very quick! Return of the car was even quicker, and the shuttle was right there to bring us back to the airport. Will definitely rent here again, highly recommended.
I liked the fact that you could choose from multiple vehicles. The Ford Expedition SUV worked fine but it was a very basic model. Unfortunately, the left rear tail light and blinker did not work. This should have been noticed before renting the car out to another customer. Certainly a problem as I could have received a citation (but did not). It makes me wonder how often basic safety checks are preformed by Alamo. When I returned the car I mentioned it to the service person and he was gracious enough to provide me with a small credit on my bill and apologized. That I appreciated.
I received paperwork in the mail from Alamo about a month after renting a car with them saying I was responsible for damage repair. I did not damage the car, and no employee checked the car for damage when I returned it to the facility. Yet, the company still tried to blame me for a small dent that I did not put in the car. A few days after I received the notice in the mail, I got phone calls from them 5 times a day for a week. These continued even after I responded to the claim via email. After one email exchange, Alamo concluded I was not at fault. Very disappointed in the unprofessional service and annoying number of phone calls received. I will not be renting from this company again.
I picked up the car at the San Diego airportThe process was absolutely efficientThe service was super friendly and when I walk to the car and made a last minute switch and they were so accommodating and helped me without any drama. The whole thing was a wonderful experience.I would give it a 6 star 👍
Alamo is always great. Nice cars and no hassles. 1 star reduction is the check in process, I had online check in completed but at this location, I was still required to wait in line and check in with the counter agent. The self check in machine doesnt work. So I waited 30 min. Need to improve the self check in machine. The counter agent also didnt believe my own rental car insurance policy deductible was only 100. I know maybe its rare, but after I showed her the actual policy, she still questioned me saying there is comprehensive deductible (the 100) and incidental deductible. I mean, since my comprehensive was 100, my incidental must be lower than that. Please provide some training to your staff.
When we picked up our rental car i noticed that there appeared to be a bloodstain on the driver side visor as well as melted candy or chocolate in the backseat. We had to do a thorough clean before our one way, cross country trip. We drove about 800 miles when the notification for a required oil change appeared. When we got to our destination I was told I could exchange it or pay for an oil change. The local rental car facility did not have any available vehicles that werent damaged so I took a few hours to get the oil changed. It was clear the vehicle had not been properly cleaned or serviced. When dropping off the vehicle, the employees at the counter were not wearing face masks despite the recent mandate that face masks are required. Not a great experience.
I travel to San Diego every other month and after trying several other rental car companies, I find that Alamo has the best prices. The cars are clean, and the in and out is streamlined, and they do not charge for a second driver. The shuttle to the airport is fast and comfortable. After several rentals, I joined their Insiders club. Tom K, San Antonio.Update Nov. 11, 2020It may be covid related, but the counter service at the airport is terrible. Six people in line and one clerk handling the long complicated transactions. I even had reservations and a confirmation number for my reservation, but still had to wait in this long line. Shame on Alamo!!!
Alamo customer service and roadside assistance people were fabulous. The engine light came on in the car I rented early during my trip, a beautiful Nissan Armada. I contacted Alamo roadside assistance and they had me in a different car within an hour of notifying them. It couldn’t have gone smoother. I am sure the engine light was something minor, but I did not want to drive an unfamiliar vehicle on unfamiliar streets with the engine light shining at me. The Alamo customer service people were completely understanding! Shout out to Michelle in San Diego!
Another very good experience with Alamo at the San Diego Airport. Quick check-in and a good selection of vehicles (Standard SUV). My selection was very clean and in good mechanical condition with low mileage (4,000). The price, as always, was very competitive. Alamo is my #1 choice for rental cars.
Rented a Suburban. SUV was clean, ran great, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Best of all, the price was really affordable. I compared it to other rental companies and Alamo was by far the lowest. Not just lowest as compared to the other companies, but lowest as in the price itself was what I consider very affordable and well worth it. Alamo will be the first company I will go to in the future.
Alamo - San Diego Airport Location. Beware, renting a car from this place is a complete disaster. I had a 3pm pick up time, and arrived at 2:45pm. The agent said the car was not available as they were super busy (there wasnt another person at the car rental place). He then said that he could get me in a slightly larger vehicle for about the same price (ok I should have seen the scam), and he shows me the new price which is only slightly more than the original. But what he was actually showing was the up-charge (ie he doubled my daily rate). Yes I should have paid more attention but you dont expect a company like Alamo to be running these types of scams at their airport locations. That will be my last Alamo rental.
I made reservation for a mini Van two months before our vacation begin it was overpriced they gave you one price before when you check-in there is another price bad company to deal with. We were party of 3 two of them rented from enterprise no problems I had Alamo it was nothing but a headache the check engine light went on we got stuck in San Diego the van didn’t started I called up service they told me they can do nothing about it was horrible never again the worst Rent-A-Car ever there’s not a star that you can go below zero.
I love Alamo. No surprises. Reliable. Easy. Affordable. New cars. Great customer service. Fast in and out. Dont love the bus to get to the car lot, but who does? Will rent from here again soon.My only complaint on this trip was the kiosks were not working so we had to stand in line. But once we were on the road, all was fine. I had never rented a Hyundai before and wont again. The Nissans or other small cars are way better.
The manager of the Alamo rent a car saw me my wife and kids struggling with the kiosk that was not reading my drivers license. He helped me use the kiosk but it was still having trouble. So he brought my printed reservation to the desk, was able to finalize it at a lower rate than the initial quote, and then when I asked for ideas to grab lunch nearby before leaving the city, he gave us the excellent idea of going to Old Town where we had a great time. I have had excellent service with every Alamo rental agency, but todays service from the San Diego Airport rent a car manager was beyond exceptional. We really appreciated his help and the car we are driving is perfect for our family trip.
I had no issues with Alamo Rent A Car at San Diego International Airport. I booked online and they had the car I ordered ready to go. Returning was no problem. I had the choice of a few different colors. The only thing that I would improve is when I went to add a night online it did not tell me upfront what rate I would be charged. So i had to call Alamo to confirm that my previously booked nightly rate would remain the same. The new rental area at the San Diego airport was great. I did not have to wait in line and getting out with the car I chose and returning it were painless and quick.
Everything was fine with the car I rented, and getting thru the paperwork went pretty smoothly. The wait at the counter was not bad at all. While I would rent again from Alamo and recommend them, Im taking off 1 star because I could not get the car I wanted. I paid for a premium car, and the selection was not very good.
When I have gotten a rental through Alamo I have always received exactly what I ordered or automatically upgraded to a better vehicle for no extra charge. I can’t say that for some other agencies. The top notch service with easy pick up and drop off making Alamo my first choice when looking for a rental vehicle. Thanks again Alamo!
Had a good experience with Alamo. The first time I’ve use this company. Pricing was a factor in renting the car from Alamo. The only drawback is that the inspection of the cars are to quick. But returning the car was quick and easy. Being in California you need to sit in the car with the windows close, you may get one that smells like weed.
Rented a car late and the slight smell of smoke intensified over the rental period. We let them know on our way out so they didnt charge us. I let the return person know upon return and he unexpectedly gave us a $25.00 credit! Rental was very smooth and easy outside of that. Excellent business smarts. I will be looking to do my future rentals with Alamo!
We rented a Dodge Grand Caravan and it was the perfect size for 5 adultsand all of our luggage. The shuttle from the airport to Alamo was very quick and pleasant. We had booked and paid for our rental ahead of time and the computercheck-in was a breeze. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Returning the minivanand shuttling back to the airport was very easy. I would definitely recommend and use this Alamo location in the future.
I set up my rental 1-month early and easily online. An emergency business trip forced me to make changes to my pick up date. I had no clue how simple and effortless making a change would be. Once I arrived in San Diego the shuttle driver was very friendly and talkative. If there is a negative it is that the kiosk computer could not read the magnetic strip on my credit card and I was forced to stand in line for a clerk. With 4 clerks the line moved quickly and I was out to my car. The car was clean and waiting for me. Everyone I interacted with was fantastic which is one reason I will always use Alamo.
The shuttle access from the airport was a bit confusing. After taking the Alamo Rent A Car shuttle, we had an excellent experience. The personnel behind the counter were courteous, friendly and very helpful. We chose a Chevy Malibu. We examined the exterior before leaving the lot and the car was in excellent condition. Pick up and return were quick and easy. Our trip was flawless until we arrived home and my husband discovered that he did not have our car keys. He contacted Alamo Rent A Car early the following morning. Within 15 minutes, they returned my husbands call, and informed him they had found our keys in the door of the Malibu. We received the keys double packed in Priority Mail a week later. Thank you Alamo!
We recently rented a car through Costco from the San Diego airport. We had a great experience in their new facility and couldn’t imagine an easier way to rent a car. They didn’t have a huge selection of cars to choose from but I feel like 8 midsized suvs is a pretty good selection. It was a reasonable cost to rent a car for our 4 days of festivities and I even let my 9 year old pick the one she wanted to be in. Checking in at the kiosk and checking out with the guard was smooth as can be. And returning the car was even easier. I chose Alamo because they were the cheapest price but had never used them before and will say I would gladly use them again!
The whole deal was pretty good, great car at a very good value. The customer service rep is the reason why Im giving 4 stars. She first tried to makes us upgrade the car when we actually got what we want and needed. And then to sell us insurance and had an attitude when we told her that the car was already covered. She did not take the time to explain everything we needed to know like how we should have told them before taking any toll roads and anything of such...Alamo got us great deal but the Rep was a turn down...the Overall was good.
The price for renting a minivan was lower than several other rental companies and the on-line check-in the night before made the pick-up process at the combined rental facilty fast. The car was clean including the inside of the windshield (not always the case with a rental car). The return process was quick and easy and I had a receipt by the time we unloaded our luggage.
Jonathan (the manager) was an absolute pleasure to work with! I arrived a couple hours early explained I was here for a wedding and he was able to get me in a car. They had several employees working so the wait was not long when I arrived and it was nice that I was able to pick out my car! Seamless process would definitely use this company again! Thanks Alamo.
Pretty standard experience at Alamo to start. You take a shuttle bus to the rental center for all car rentals. Alamo has a self-service kiosk. After spending a few minutes checking in at the kiosk and having it fail, the manager took me to the desk and got my rental car for me. I appreciated that effort and then got the surprise of an upgrade for the trouble. Great service.
The ever growing deposit, got me for $300.00 security deposit. Said it was to counter fraud I do not understand how holding my funds fights fraud. They have ALL my info not getting away. Why not hold the entire value of the car. Seems I’m being set up for fraud should they decide to just keep the deposit where does that leave me. Impossible to reach a human so I’ll be spending hours fixing it. Lame o Alamo
Favorite rental!I again rented from Alamo on a recent vacation to San Diego. They gave me excellent rates and a free upgrade and are easy to deal with online. The service at San Diego was amazing with their new rental terminal and shuttle service which I wish every airport had. I think it took about 15 minutes from the time I left the airport until I was driving down the freeway. On vehicle return, service was equally efficient and friendly.
I love Alamo. I rent cars at airports often! I like the efficiency of Alamo and use them whenever I can. This time however, it was not Alamo but the shuttle driver from Alamo to the airport. On Monday morning it was pouring rain and he dropped us off at one terminal instructing us to walk to the other terminal. Luckily I was not late but the woman with me was and she was highly annoyed. Ordinarily I would not complain but it was pouring rain and this airport is not accustomed to a lot of weather. Alamo yes, San Diego Airport Shuttle driver boo!
With Alamo, I was able to get checked in and skip the counter and skip the kiosk options and go directly to the vehicles.Unfortunately my reserved car was not reserved (they ran out of that class option) and I was given an upgrade.I picked out a Nissan Altima which I have rented previously. The car was clean and drove well but didnt have a full tank of fuel. Although this was noted by the agent it is pretty difficult to try to put back in only the fuel you used so Alamo got free gas since I just filled it up. I dont think the fuel gauge is correct as a 1/4 tank (to fill it) took 6.5 gallons of gas, I doubt that is a 26 gallon tank on a passenger car. I mentioned this to the returning agent who just said yeah, it happens. What happens? What does that even mean? Hope they have that looked at but I really doubt it since it happens.Overall no real issues and would rent from Alamo again.
This is probably the best experience I have had with a car rental agency. The check in and check out was fast and efficient. I noticed a dent on my car on the last day I had it. I called in and let them know when I dropped off the car. I was thinking of not getting the insurance when I got the rental, I’m glad i didn’t. It was worth it! You never know what could happen.
I have good experiences with Alamo through the country and San Diego in particular.I fly to SD almost weekly and have tried most of the car rental companies.Alamos cars are generally in much better condition than their competitors, even when of comparable mileage.Staff is always nice, cars clean and work well. The only drawback is that the only gas station close to their location is positioned in a way that obliges you to lose a good 10 minutes extra just to refill prior to returning the car. They always offer the extra options and protection, but never make it unpleasant when you decline.
Flight arrived a bit late, per usual United timing, but Kiki was there at the ready in the Alamo office. She was quick, polite, helpful, and a joy to work with getting my papers ready to step out and select a car. Then step out to the covered lot and find all out of standard size cars but able to use a full size with no additional charge. Oh look,...a new Dodge Satellite (?), ready to hit the road. Twist my arm,.... OK,..OK,... Im happy to drive off and enjoy it for almost 2 days. And car return was quick and easy. The cheerful and efficient service seem quite regular with your staff. Thanks Alamo. Youve definitely won my business away from the competition.
The whole rental experience was very easy and straightforward. I reserved a minivan for a day and a mid-size for a week. We needed a minivan to transport 4 people and several large suitcases from the airport to the place we were staying. The next day I returned the minivan and picked up the mid-size car. This was by far the fastest and easiest car rental I ever had. The salesperson did not try to push extra insurance, which was a refreshing change from what I am used to. I will definitely be using Alamo in the future.
At rental time I told the employee we didnt know whether we were staying 4 or 5 days. Employee told me just do 4 and ask for a day extension if you decide to stay the extra day. ($463 for4 days). On day 3 I call for an extension and I was told it would be an ADDITIONAL$403..($866 total) . After confirming multiple times I was hearing correct. Im going to return a day early, get some money back and rent from any one of their competitors for less than$100
I have rented an intermediate car three separate times within the last year. Each time the car I was provided was clean and performed flawlessly. Check out and return was performed in a friendly, efficient and timely manner. A few very minor gripes (none of which lowers rating to 4 star): Check out lines at counter can be long so I typically use a kiosk. Kiosk process is considerably longer than necessary. It would be nice if this location had skip the counter.
The renting process was smooth we had a beautifully clean car. The return process took me well over an hour as I couldn’t find where to return the car on Disneyland property. Even the Disney staff I asked had no idea and sent me on a wild goose chase for AN HOUR. I called the 800 number hoping for some direction only to get the rental office number from the person on the phone which was the 800 number I just called. I finally found a Disney maintenance employee who told me exactly where to park and go. I understand no signage is allowed but maybe when a customer is returning a car to Alamo at Paradise Pier, Alamo can in their reminder include details about where the location specifically is and where to park the car. I had rented there 7 years ago and the location had changed. I was sent back to that spot by a Disney employee as well. All in all just give more specifics to those customers to make up for the inability to use signage. Thanks!
Very disappointed with my experience renting from this Alamo. The initial car I rented had mechanical issues. I had to go back to the airport to exchange it and three cars that I started in the lot had error messages that maintenance was required. It was difficult to find anyone to assist and had to keep walking though the whole garage to find someone to get keys to a different car that hopefully didnt have mechanical issues. I have been a loyal Alamo customer for almost 10 years in other states but Im not sure I trust their reliability anymore after this experience.
I had a good experience with Alamo. I rented a car from them once and they gave me a great compact car. We enjoyed the drive for our whole visit in CA.The staff were friendly as well. Guided us how to get the car and what to do when returning it. I recommend to everyone.
My experience with Alamo had been awesome. The automated kiosk allowed me to be in and out in about 10 minutes from the time I swiped my card to exiting the garage. The prices we very competitive for the higher classes of vehicles and the rental never let me down. Highly recommend Alamo at the San Diego Airport.
As a Costco member I use the convenient travel web portal to rent cars whenever we travel. On a recent trip to San Diego, we selected Alamo as the best price & vehicle option. Our interaction with Anthony at their service desk left me frustrated and hesitant to do business with Alamo again. He spoke incredibly fast while trying to get us through the process, I guess quickly, although it seemed like a ton of typing for the few questions he asked. He first tried to up-sell us on a current sale of SUV daily rentals, that truly wasnt an appealing option. Said it would save us money on gas mileage. (* we ended up changing to a different vehicle class, since we are considering buying a certain model) Then he asked about adding insurance. I said if there was an option that didnt increase the rental price, sure, but I didnt want to pay extra. He again spoke rapidly, and finished his sentence with so, the walk away? Which I nodded yes to, I should have asked for clarification I suppose, however I just wanted to get on the road with my increasingly upset and hungry toddler. When he got done with printing the agreement, I stepped away and looked at the final price. It was double what my original Costco quoted receipt said. Anthony had already moved on to another couple and I went back to the desk and asked what the line item costs were. He said you said walk away, which is $30/day insurance coverage plus tax. I said that I did not want any extra coverage, to which he replied no, you agreed, thats what you said. Any time I tried to say I didnt, he had a response indicating I made the mistake. I didnt have time to debate this guy. I just asked him to remove all unnecessary / extra fees; he said he had to finish with his current group he was working on, then hed take off the added insurance.Overall, I was very unsatisfied with the customer service, and his stubborn attitude to always be right was incredibly unnerving.I definitely wont be renting from Alamo in the future.
Pretty loyal to Alamo, but a bad time of year to rent. Most money Ive ever paid for a car with a lot of miles. Would really be nice if they compensated even $5 or $10 for early return. Either way they had a car back early so others have a better selection. Even a coupon for next rental would be nice.
I returned my rental today and it was a very frustrating experience. After 30 minutes of dropping off my rental and halfway to northcounty, I realized I left my home car gate key in the rental. I drove back to Alamo and spoke to the Michael the manager. From the beginning he was very unfriendly and seemed to hate his job. I mentioned I drove back to get the gate key to my home. A few minutes later he instructed a staff member to search for the vehicle in the car wash station to get my key. He returned after at least 20 minutes waiting, and informed me they could not locate the rental. He tried to continue looking for the vehicle and even offered to call me tomorrow after searching the lost and found. Michael, the manager stopped him from helping me search for the vehicle and told me I had to initiate the phone call to lost and found. They werent even busy! Hey Michael and Alamo, I had just completed a 12 hour road trip over the weekend, was exhausted and had just drove back halfway to north county just 30 min after dropping off the rental and you couldnt allow the staff member an extra 10 minutes to search for the missing car rental with my key in it? Normally I rent from Alamo because they are more organized than this and usually have great customer service. But instead of engaging in a complaint with Michael I realized, I like my job, I dont have to deal with this, Ill gladly pay my landlord an extra $75 for a new key rather than deal with Michael again.
I should give Alamo 5 stars!Service is Great!Cars are Great!Prices are great! But I have a pet peeve about not drying the cars after theyre washed. I know all of the other rental agencies dont dry them either, so I wall rate Alamo & Avis as my favorites!!!!!Please give me a towel and it be happy to dry it myself.
Its always so easy to pick up a car at this Alamo rental center. I always request a Rav 4 because it is what I drive at home. It isnt always readily available, but they always search their inventory and find one for me. The staff in the garage are fantastic. The cars are clean and fully gassed up.The only issue I have is with the counter staffs hard sell attempt to get you to sign up for the extra insurance. My rental is fully covered by my insurance company, and I advised them of that. But they still try to make you add it on by saying that you will be responsible for everything if something happens to the car and that my insurance probably wouldnt cover it. In fact, I was advised that if I got a flat tire, I would be responsible to pay a garage to come and change it because Alamo would not come out unless I purchased their service plan. I have AAA, so Im covered there too. But seriously, stop with the what if scare tactics. I dont get this every time I rent here, but I did on 12/2/18. Also, I booked the car through Costco, which allows me to have a 2nd driver for no extra fee. The counter staff advised that if that driver does any damage to the car that I would be responsible for it fully because the car is rented under me, so I really must buy the extra insurance. I didnt. It would have tripled the rental cost.Aside from that, I love the very easy drop off at this site as well.
Had a great experience! Your staff was very professional and most helpful! We were able to pick our own car and a Toyota Camry was available. Great car for our vacation in San Diego as we drove all over the area and the car was extremely comfortable and very maneuverable in all that traffic! We will definitely rent from Alamo again! Thanks Alamo!
Ive been renting from Alamo for years in cities across the US. Their prices are always competitive. More importantly, the fleet of cars is kept fresh, they are clean and in great condition. Shuttle service is great and the drivers are friendly and professional. With the addition of the Kiosks, picking up my car is easier than ever. I highly recommend Alamo in any major city or small town where you need a modern, reliable vehicle.
First time renting from Alamo and had a great experience. The premium car was clean, relatively new (12k miles) and the process for check out and check in was quick and trouble free. The pricing was very competitive with my usual corporate rental agency Budget. Will be renting from Alamo again.
Rented a Nissan Rogue from San Diego Airport. The car itself was great. Clean, low mileage, ready to go! What wasn’t so great was actually getting the car. There were 10+ people on line waiting for 2 agents. Six self service kiosks were all not in use. I stepped over to use one only to find ALL OF THEM out of service. So I get back on line as 1 of the 2 agents LEAVES for lunch. I understand that it was his break time but it was at least 10 minutes before 2 additional agents came out to the counter (justas I finally made it to the front of the line). In all, I waited over 30 minutes in line which I find totally unacceptable.
- affordable car rental- small petrol charge- no excess for potential scratches- helpful staff who enjoy their workplace- no additional charges for interstate travelUsed Alamo twice and got a Camero at a great rate with amazing service from the staff. Will only hire from Alamo in the future as Hertz and Ace Car Rental add lots of additional charges (where they can) which were included in the price with Alamo.Left something in the car and they staff went out of their way to assist us. It was a pleasant experience. Thanks!
The first SUV I rented had mechanical problems (Check Engine light stayed on) several days into our vacation. Had to drive back to San Diego airport from Carlsbad to exchange using up part of our vacation. The second car also had mechanical problems (Check Engine light was intermittent). Luckily turned off after I stopped and restarted the car. Ive used Alamo multiple times in the past with no issues. The first time at the San Diego airport.
Alamo offers the best rates across the board. Im a bargain hunter and compared their prices on Costco, AAA and USAA. On all 3 sites, they offered the lowest out of the major car rental companies.I normally rate them 5 stars, however, this time the car we got wasnt up to expectations. I normally get upgraded but it wasnt offered this time. The car we got wasnt as clean as previous cars we rented. We just were not as satisfied but I still recommend them.
I had a prepaid reservation and clearly stated at the rental counter that I do not need and want any insurance extensions. In the end I learned after the car return that Alamo charged me a 62.61 USD fee for a Roadside Plus package that I never wanted.I reported the situation to Alamo central offices after I found out and they refunded the money. Very customer orientated claim handling. Will rent again wirh Alamo, since I had a great car at a good value for money!
Have rented at Alamo many times in SD. Always pleased. Our recent experience 6/22/16, was the best however. We had mistakenly made reservations through our airline, Southwest, to use Avis. After gathering our luggage we were transported to the new rental car center. The Avis office had 1 clerk working a line of over a dozen people. In frustration, my wife went next door to Alamo. She found them able to help almost immediately and to offer the same price as Avis. Needless to say, we wont stray from Alamo next time. Keep up the good work.

2022-05-24Booked via Costo Travel. Check in was okay. Waited on line as there was only one person already at the counter. All the kiosks were put of order so I needed a live person. Ive actually never been to an Alamo with working kiosks. Ended up getting checked by the rep from National.Reserved a compact car (you know with these California gas prices, gotta go with the most fuel efficient) and got a nice upgrade to midsize car (2022 Nissan Sentra). Only had about 4400 miles on it. Smooth and gas efficient ride. What I didnt like/appreciate was that when I returned the car, I was charged a random $0.51 and the emailed receipt didnt explain what the extra charge was. Given that there was no damage and I returned a full tank, not sure why I was charged extra. Yes its a small amount but if they add a small amount to everyone reservation Im sure itll add up to a pretty penny.

2022-01-24We had a great rental with Alamo. We rent cars a lot because we travel frequently. We started our trip in San Diego and we’re treated as a valued customer. Our service representative at the counter and in the vehicle garage were friendly and courteous. The van was clean and sanitized. We drove the van for 1400 miles and had no problems. We returned the van to San Francisco international airport and was greeted by a customer service manager Remi. He was friendly and polite to both of us. We will be using Alamo again.

2021-11-17Alamo is usually my first go-to rental company when traveling, but the San Diego Airport location is the last place I will ever rent a car from. The vehicle I received was faulty, with a hole in the center console. I found out about the hole AFTER I put my sun glasses in there and had them fall through, under the e-brake. I contacted central customer service as soon as it occurred, and they annotated my reservation, and told me the car would be taken to the dealership to access the area where the sunglasses were. When returning the vehicle, the person receiving the car confirmed that my glasses were indeed down under the center console, and told me to speak with the manager. The manager told me they would retrieve the glasses and contact me within 1-2 weeks. It has been a month and a half, and despite multiple attempts to contact the San Diego office, they have been ignoring me so far, and claiming that they never found any sunglasses. Fortunately, I was able to take a couple of photos of my sunglasses jammed under the center console, so that I can at least prove Im not making this up, as the management at this location seems to imply. My entire reservation was for $163, and I have had to spent much more to replace the sunglasses since I got no help in retrieving the old ones, and this locations complete indifference. It took me multiple calls and emails to finally reach a customer service agent (central) with enough empathy and trust to hear me out and believe me, despite the San Diego locations claims of not having found any sunglasses. This was a situation where I didnt forget my glasses, or lose them as a result of a break-in or something. For a lack of a better term, the vehicle essentially ate my sunglasses due to a defect in the car, and the location office chose to ignore me in response. So all that to say; use this location at your own risk. Chances are, youll be fine with the rental since its a simple car you are renting, but dont count on them for any customer service support! Also triple check the storage compartments in their vehicles for holes and openings before storing anything in them.

2022-07-01Everything about my experience was awesome from start to finish! Chauncey at the rental desk for National called us over so we didnt have to wait in line (it was short, but still!) and got us out to our car quickly and efficiently. Such a nice guy! And then up at the cars, there was a young man in a suit jacket who was helping about 5 people at the same time and doing an amazing job at it. We had asked for an suv and wanted one with lots of cargo space and he pointed out several along with options for renting a van if that was better. We chose the first he had suggested and it was perfect. The young lady at the exit was wonderful as well, googling answer a question I had. And return was so easy. I literally stepped out of the car and was asked how everything went and if I wanted my receipt printed or emailed. No surprises, no setbacks, just smooth sailing. Really excellent experience and I would use them again.

2022-06-03Our Alamo rental went very smooth. This was my only anxiety about this trip and I was sooo pleased how smooth everything went. The process to pick up the vehicle was fantastic. The people were extremely friendly and patient with our questions. When we returned, they made sure everything went well for us, which it did. Thank you for a terrific experience.

2022-08-01Booked a rental with another company and was told I couldn’t get the rental. Went into Alamo and they graciously helped get me a rental for my time in San Diego. I wish I remembered the name of the person who helped booked the reservation at the counter. He was very helpful and extremely nice especially after being so upset from leaving the other rental company. When returning the car, I returned during after hours, Alex helped make sure I parked in the right area along with making sure I got everything out of the vehicle. I will be using Alamo whenever I need a rental vehicle from here on out. Thank you for being so helpful

2022-06-09My husband and I rented a car from the Alamo Rent a Car at the San Diego Airport for Memorial Day Weekend. Small issue with the initial car we had selected, but after calling Customer Service, I was directed to go back in and speak with Doreen and she would take care of EVERYTHING! and .... DOREEN took care of everything! She upgraded our car rental without any additional charge. There was no hassle, no trying to explain, she just simply was so very nice and professional and in a short time (very short time), we were on our way in an extremely nice vehicle for our Memorial Day weekend in San Diego, CA. Very happy with their customer service, with Doreen, Jonathan and the individual who we met when we returned the car. ALL very nice & accomodating!! I would rent from Alamo again in the future!!!

2022-06-23Rented a car at the Maui airport from Alamo and it was a great experience. I used their skip the counter check-in service and it was fantastic. It was very fast and efficient. The car was clean and as advertised. The return process was also very fast and easy. I would highly recommend Alamo Rent A Car.

2022-03-29Very easy rental. The bus ride to the general car rental mall is pretty long but very efficient. The clerk at Alamo San Diego was very nice and helpful. Once I took care of the paperwork we headed upstairs to the parking garage where another helpful rep helped us choose our car. We ordered a mid sized car but none were available so were shown everything from a BMW convertible to a van. We got a Jeep. Return was also very easy.

2022-01-25I havent rented from Alamo for a while, but am going to start doing so from this point on. The rental process from start to finish was seamless and timely and the car was newer and clean. A really positive rental experience after a couple of non-positive experiences from a competitor of Alamo.
