My daughter, my husband, and I arrived here about 8:30am on a Saturday morning feeling confident we had arrived early enough to snag an open lane for a few games...unfortunately, we definitely mistaken! It is extremely difficult to book a lane in less than a month in advance especially since so many leagues tie up the lanes pretty regularly. We did however wander over to the little cafe inside that seemed to be attracting a lot of customers, even customers who werent even there to bowl but just grab breakfast with family and friends! This cafe is quite small, but cozy with a bar along the kitchen and swivel chairs (very old fashioned diner style) where a lot 9f regulars seem to be seated! We found some space there just to check out their menu and ended ordering breakfast! My daughter ordered pancakes off the kids menu, I opted for a bowl of hearty oatmeal that came with the basic fixings (milk, brown sugar, raisins) and my husband ordered bacon and eggs which came with hash browns and a side of pancakes. I think our bill totaled to $25 including our coffee, juice, and soft drink before tip. Honestly, for the price, We will definitely be back! The pancakes were probably the most memorable, my husband really liked his hash browns and said his eggs were fresh-nothing was too greasy, burned, over or under cooked. My oatmeal wasnt bad-I was actually not expecting it to be as good as it was especially for $4! We are very picky when it comes to breakfast, regularly dining at Hash House, Mission City Grille, or Bills Cafe. We are hoping to return to bowl although going just for the breakfast would still make the trip worth it!
COMMANDMENT #12THOU SHALT NOT EVER EVER EVER EAT HERE!Maybe you can trust them to serve you a cup of $4 coffee. But whatever you do dont..I repeat DONT trust these( crazy rich Asians) dont hate on me thats what they call themselves since 1978 to cook a meal thats actually edible.Which is what a Restaurant used to be all about.Robert Irving With Restaurant IMPOSSIBLE THUS IS A CASE FOR YOU.I have been letting all the oops slide since the Dennys In Salt Lake City, sold crepes with no idea how to prepare them. But since Ive been sick all night& it ruined the last night of my Staycation.I had to share, besides the fact that I went right back up there with uneaten food& receipts, when she got on the phone like she was calling Budda himself over a $22 ticket.I just puked my way out the door so I could finish vomiting my guts out in privacy. Where day do dat at?I will be getting a refund because I have already opened a dispute with my CC company.I would have taken photos but I didnt even want to see tgat imitation of an entree again.I should do this for a living cause this ish be hilarious and sometimes they even wanna try to make it personal. No shes thinking hahaha I still got her money, but Oh No U Dont,.Look all ye Nations Praise and Worship Yah
15$ an hour for pool and bartender wouldn’t give me another drink which I accidentally spilled because “she didn’t spill it”. Would have appreciated a better reason at least for refusal to poor me another drink. Not the friendliest staff and way too expensive to play pool imo when there’s tons of bars in the city that charge you $1 per round if anything at all. I can live without coming here again. Taking my business to Bowlero next time I want a bowling/pool playing experience in one
Solid standard bowling alley. Reasonable prices (14$ per game for two people) and not a long wait. They also have a bar for drinks, they serve food and they have some pool tables. Not a bad place to hang out for an evening, but dont expect any of the trimmings of some of the newer places.
Clean. It is a place where you are stepping back in time to the 1950s. The environment is clean. The Bowling Alley was very CLEAN.Amazed. Stopping by for a meal pick up and the Grilled Cheese was so gooood!!!! The fries were thin, good for the person needs to watch the weight gain. It was spacious for a Dinner and bowling. I would enjoy coming back someday. Waitresses were friendly and kind.
Been here a few times. The equipment is better than many bowling centers. No lane equipment breakdowns, the shoes are fairly new and clean, and they have actual fingertip balls in and amongst the lane balls. The restaurant has decent food and actually has a pretty strong clientele independent of the bowling alley business. Located in a pretty quiet area North of downtown SJ so no trouble with parking either.
Went bowling here the other day and it was a lot of fun. We came on a Sunday during the day and it wasnt crowded at all and quiet which was nice. The lanes are nice and taken care of. The shoes even seemed cleaner than some of the other bowling alleys Ive been too. Its nice because they also have pool tables and a place to grab some food. The pool tables are charged by the hour and if you play just one game you end up just usually paying less than 5 dollars.
I really enjoy this place Im not much of a drinker so Im not too sure about the bar scene but every time I walk by they usually have pretty good beer on tap so youre safe. I just like to play bowling and if youre just like me this is your place you can either come here with friends or you can come here by yourself either way its a good time.
Had many fun nights at this place and their bar, good place to hang with friends or take the kids bowling. They also have a cafe that serves food, good for french fries and breakfast. Its definitely outdated, but you cant beat the prices to bowl, especially compared to the newer bowling alleys.
Hands down, the best bowling alley in the area. The lanes are well maintained, perfectly oiled, and function flawlessly. It has a great pro shop with an equally great selection and a very knowledgeable staff that does great work (talk to Marvin, hes a beast). They run multiple leagues during the day/afternoon which is great if you are looking to join one at a legitimately professional grade alley; though it does make lane availability for the casual bowler difficult at times. Whats even better is that there is an awesome old-school-feel diner with delicious food in the same building, as well as an equally amazing karaoke bar just waiting for the next William Hung to stroll in after tossing a few 300s. They also have billiards available in the front if thats your thing, or want something to do other than eat and drink until your lane is available. This is a great place for the serious and casual bowler alike and definitely deserves a visit if you havent already.
Came here for the 2019 Janba bowling tournament. Place is rather small so it does get crowded. Not many seats around too. Parking was a nightmare to whoever brought vehicles as the parking place is very tight. We walked to the bowling alley from Wyndham hotel so it was not a problem for me. Theres a really nice bar & diner located within the building complex which was extremely good, imho.
Dont know about bowling, but San Joses hidden gem of a coffee shop/diner. If you want great food at a cheap price and dont mind going to a bowling alley. Its got counter and booth seating. You definitely feel like your in an old 1950s alley diner, but it has been updated. Clean and fresh food. Good food at reasonable price. Staff is really nice and professional.
This place is great to go dancing and/or karaoke and after 9 any day of the week in the bar area. Its nice to have somewhere to go every single night of the week for dancing, Whereas many other places dont have dancing on Mondays and Tuesdays for instance. Plus the additional make karaoke makes it more fun. Yay!
My go to spot for a lazy breakfast on Sundays. Sometimes breakfast happens at 9:00 AM, but more often at noon or even 2:00 PM. The food is always good and reasonably priced. The service is friendly and efficient. They are usually bustling but the wait to get your coffee topped off is never very long. Ive been coming here for years.
We visited this place recently. Although they have weekly bowling specials their prices seemed to be a bit high. Each game for each person was $4.50 + $4.00 for shoe rental. So if you are going with a group of people be prepared to pay a pretty penny. The restaurant that is attached have raised their prices for food. When we order the chicken nuggets they charged $5.47 for 6 small pieces. As you check the menu on their site the price was $3.75, which seemed reasonable. When showing them the price on Google from their own menu they had stated that it is 10 years old and just chuckled. I, as most people, enjoy bowling and grubbing but am disappointed at being gouged when it comes to overpriced items, it makes for a very disappointing experience.
Worst place for familyWe had a really worst experience. We went for bowling with kids and the person on the counter said we cannot play with our griping shoes. And must rent their shoes then he gave us the place to play but during the second round to discontinued our game connection on the grounds that we had kids. Then he said we have to pay for the discontinued game also. It was like ruining your evening and then paying a tip. I felt so bad. They charged us 28$ like we paid 10$ for the unsatisfied game. I will not recommend anyone this place. Highly dissatisfied. Worst place for family
This place is a good bowling alley and is still affordable. I compared price with bowlero San Jose. It was $3/game vs $7/game at bowlero. They both have bowling alley, balls and electronic score boards. If youre going bowling, rather than having a party or date night, this place makes sense. I would have given 5 stars but its just not as clean or well kept as the other places that are youve the price.
Rude service!! Would not recommend for large groups. We went for a team bonding event. We were told there are no reservations, its first come first serve for certain times (no problem), we waited an hour (thats ok we had a group of 16 and it was a busy night), we were finally called up for our lanes and the irritated cashier says, you guys better fill those lanes! in a rude tone. Well idiot, you are the one in charge of that and putting 16 of us in 3 lanes (we didnt complain, we went along with that)....but yes, the lanes were full and the attitude not necessary. While we waited we were spending money on food, cocktails, pool and games....but apparently having a large group was incredibly annoying to the staff. To top things off and to make it clear we were a bother to him, he would not let each family pay individually as he gave each kid/parents their shoes...even if most agreed they would pay in cash if needed. We had to put it on 2 or 3 credit cards. Very akward for families that didnt know each other very well! He opened his cash register to break all of our twenties so we could pay back the ones willing to use their credit card....but would not accept the $14pp directly from us as we collected our shoes. Unnecessary and poor customer service! My money spends just as well elsewhere!
My favorite bowling place and the guys working at the desk is so friendly and nice. Their lanes are very clean and even the leagues are there for their games so that mean theyre serious to find a good place to bowl. I like it that they dont have the music on and lights are on. Their rate for Tues for all you can bowl is great which I do go weekly with my daughter.
Beware the son of the owner if hes working. I was a regular here for over three years. Never had a single issue of any kind. He picked up a server shift and within minutes of talking to this guy he was raising his voice and getting physical. He said he was the manager but I had never seen him in three years of going there. Because, I switched to decaf and asked for a piece of paper to write something down on. Will never go back.
Small place but hecka fun.after bowling with a couple drinks of course headed to thebat where theyre was karaoke with songs in familiar with hip hop and r&b. The drinks were super strong and super cheap compared to other night clubs or bars pretty cool chill place to kick it
Had lots of fun at the bowling alley. Not only do they have a billiard, they also have a bar, dancing, and karaoke! It was great. Staff are helpful from the minute you walk in. This place was packed with lots of people who wanted to spend their night having lots of fun. At 4th street bowl, you will achieve that.
You cannot miss the restaurant at the 4th Street Bowling Alley this restaurant is not a big restaurant its a small restaurant in a bowling alley with big food tastes they have awesome comfort food you ought to try going in there because their prices are great the quality of the food is great its hot its fresh and try their cabbage soup it is so awesome for this winter time whether you wont be surprised I mean youll be surprised if you want a good meal for a cheap price. Its awesome no kidding good food good home cooked food yummy and cheap cant get any better than that
This place is too much fun. $6 games $4 rentals. $10 deposit to play pool. Clean restrooms. Fun for families of ALL kinds. Before 930pm on weekends. I did notice the change in crowd. There is a lounge so any one over 21 be ready to enjoy the night. Karoke after 9pm. Its just an all around fun bowling venue in the heart of whats left of San Jose. The other places are not nearly as awesome. Your just paying for the night lights at those rates... Go have fun at a real thriving Mom and Pop style venue. Worth it.My only request is music thru out the place! Would liven things up just a tad.You can even bring your own snacks : )
Dolores, the bar tender is so racist against Samoans. As soon as me and my family walked in she says that she doesnt want no problems and we cant bring no drinks in. We bought drinks all night so she already judged us before hand. Automatically she assumed that we came to start trouble. We just came from a family funeral and wanted to spend some family time, hear some good music and karaoke. She said there were Samoans that came last week and they started trouble which had nothing to do with us. We were having the time of our lives and all of a sudden the music goes off and it was 1145 she said it was getting too loud. Hello, its a bar everyone was happy and dancing. She cut the music off but still kept serving alcohol. Doesnt make sense. She compares all Samoans thinking all of us are nothing but trouble. Never coming here again.
One of the poor bowling alley I went to. Poorly maintained lanes and tables. Bowling balls are hard to find. Size and finger holes do not match. They have a full bar but not even one tap for draft beer. One kid rails for entire bowl and only 2 kids size ball. Not at all Kid friendly place. People with kids, stay away and find better place.Staffs are very rude and not willing to help you.
Most weeknights this place will be booked because of league! There are cheaper alternatives but this place is the best venue for casual and serious bowlers alike. Check out their website for weekly deals too. They have an arcade and billiards for waiting and helpful staff as well as a bar/food. Would recommend coming here!
This place isnt fancy & full of big screen TVs lining the walls like some of the other alleys in the area. 4th Street Bowl is an older bowling alley that was once a common scene throughout the South Bay hosting kids & adult leagues as well as recreational rollers... Known for its Karaoke, strong cocktails, pool tables, & relaxed atmosphere. Come & check this place out because these nostaligic bowling alleys are closing all too often these days to make room for more housing & or retail space.
Found this place near the San Jose airport. Classic bowling alley cafe. Long counter with many seats, booths as well. I tried the Loco Moco. Great! Two eggs and a hamburger patty over white rice covered with brown gravy. Unique flavor to the gravy. Eggs and burger cooked perfectly. Very tasty! My coffee was never less than half full. Excellent service!
Very rude behavior of staff. We keep going here many time but this time their machine counting was wrong .It was not shifting to next row (to next player) but putting score in one row only. We informed about this to staff but he said he will not reset game from start. First he gave excuse machine is delaying response it will reflect later but when we waited for that still it was showing wrong. But he didnt reset our game. He was talking rudely and left the counter without proper solution.
Very dissatisfied with the food.. DONT TRY THE CHICKENS FRIED STEAK!!! THE FOOD USED TO BE GREAT THERE... This chicken fried was served in a little saucer plate with a cup of gravy .. It was got in two.. Small portion.. And so thin... It was dried out..GROSS... THE BOWLING & POOL ARE GOOD...
Went to have lunch with my son and then play a few games after lunch. Bowling was fun as usual. Lunch on the other hand was not so great.I ordered a Chicken salad sandwich with Fries. The Chicken salad was tasteless and was served on not so soft white bread the French Fries were over done. My son had a Lengusia Sandwhich and Fries, the Lengusia was over done and was rubbery the Fries were over done. The waitress had an attitude. We go to 4th street bowl because the food is usually really good and the bowling alley prices are reasonable.Disappointed with todays visit for lunch. Yes, we will be going back just because we like it.
This is for the Coffee Shop:Some days you want to eat at a diner. You want vinyl seats, white Formica counter tops, and blue plate specials. You want a waitress who appears to not care but secretly loves this place more than her kids, and pie thats better than Moms. Grilled cheese, burgers, and malts that make you weep quietly into your whipped cream.Of course, these places dont really exist outside of Hollywood, but if youre in San Jose, go to The Coffee Shop. Its not impossibly perfect. But its a perfect diner. We had the blue plate special after the kind of cold day where you lose your toes and would gladly climb over your own mother to get back inside and it warmed me to the tips of my fingers. Meat, potatoes, a side of veggies, and dessert, all of them good, rich, and homemade. Even the Italian dressing was made in the house, which is so charming to see.Im always surprised to find a restaurant that cooks its own food.
The only bowling alley you should go to in San Jose. Its a bit old and showing its wear and tear but that just shows the love its seen. A great bar, fantastic staff, a cosy diner with good food and all the amenities of a great bowling alley. Even an arcade, pool and other fun things of bowling isnt your cup of tea. I love 4th Street Bowl!
This is my favorite place to bowl in the area. I took a bowling class nearby at SJSU and got really into bowling for a while. 4th Street seems to be the best maintained and just generally most pleasant place to bowl. Prices are good and usually its not too crowded. I bought a ball and shoes at the pro shop here as well. I dont consider myself a pro bowler by any means and the staff was very helpful in giving me tips and helping me select the right ball. Overall its the go to place for me when I feel like bowling.
Had gone there for a company bowling event. Stay away from this stinky place. The whole place reeks of smelly wood and shoes...oh and the shoes...dont even try to get into the rental shoes !! Even if someone could overcome the smell, they are extremely worn out, uncomfortable and you cannot even bowl in them. Dont know how this place is still open !! Stay away.
Only came here cause we had a company party here. otherwise if i had to pay i would not choose to come to this place. its old, dirty and run down. reminds me of the 80s. food is bleh. bowling is bleh. maybe if i was i. my 70s and in a bowling league i would enjoy it. but even then, maybe.
Great place Ive been going there since I was a kid when I lived in that neighborhood if youre in the diner the cabbage soup homemade fabulous I would often have lunch with my contractor buddies in the bar area thats another great place where the San Jose in the know people eat a great lunch.
The café at the bowling alley is our go-to for weekend breakfast, not because it is the best, but because there is usually only a short wait. San Jose is severely lacking in good breakfast spots so the lines can be unbearable at other places. No one seems to know about the 4th St. Bowl café. As for the food, it is standard fare but does include some tasty surprises like Javiers special scramble of eggs, hot dogs, tomatoes and green onions. They also serve some Hawaiian favorites like Loco Moco.
D.j was playing music from 1990s and ealier. There was no current music. My sister and sister in law were both celebrating their birthdays. He kept saying he was going to play current music but would revert back to the 90s. When we wrote and presented a vurrent song tityle and artisy name he claimed thst he fidnt have any of them. Weve all been here before and have danced and heard virrent music. His customer service and apparent drunkeness was horrible!
Lady came up to me said out the blue in a hostile voice said to me ..you cannot charge your phone with OUR electricity!! I worked the Milpitas bowl in 1995 and also worked the Morgan Hill bowl in 1997. I wasnt trained to treat patrons as such!! Ashamed at the way I was treated

2022-05-23Very bright lanes as opposed to dark Bowlero. Ceiling fans and ball return fans are strong. Only four chairs assigned per lane so it feels a little cramped but it looks spacious. Lots of free parking and rates are very reasonable.

2022-06-30Best little diner in the area. Bar is great and staff is awesome.

2022-03-30This place is awesome! The diner has great food, and the whole place has such an old-school atmosphere - but in a good way. Like high quality food with some hawaiian selections, authentic service with people that have worked there for years, not fancy but REAL, which is sorely lacking in the Bay Area. I hope they are around for many more years.

2022-06-22Seems like the type of place for leagues more than general public but they do let everyone in. It was less busy than other lanes so that was nice. There is nothing special just regular lights on bowling. They do have a bar that serves drinks and appetizers

2022-06-20Been going there for about 30 years. Everyone knows each other. Its like a family gathering every time you go. The waitresses know you by name. Love it.

2022-06-20Treating Customers Right . . . 6 months later . . .In January i bowled at 4th st and somehow there was a lane mix-up and i was overcharged 2 games. I called the manager (Ted) shortly thereafter and after doing some research, he agreed that i was overcharged, he apologized, and he told me he would put a note on the bulletin board for me so that next time i came in, i would be compensated for the error.Fast-forward 6 months later . . . I went in, explained the issue to the guy at the front desk, he went in the back room, and sure enough came out with a gift certificate for 3 games with my name on it!! Thats quality service taken to the extreme . . . i figured they would have forgotten by now, but no . . . great service still exists . . . thank you 4th street bowl.

2022-04-03Booked a bowling lane for two hours.#1. I need a number 6 to 8 ball, literally 80% balls at this place DO NOT have numbers written on them. You literally have to lift every possible ball and see if it works for you. I had to ask for a refund at the counter just to get the guy find a right size bowling ball.#2. Balls were not at all clean, had oil and pizza grease all over.#3. Then we ended up converting 1 hour of bowling to billiards. Tables were not in a great shape, but work for amateurs like me.

2020-01-21Its old fashioned. Thats a good thing. If you like bowling while chatting with your friends, this is the place for you. If you like music videos and UV lighting and a night club vibe, well, theres plenty of other places to choose from. Personally, I loved it and will be back again.

2022-02-15Love this place! Old school inexpensive bowling and gets busy on weekends but is first come first serve. Some could say outdated, but all the pros come here to practice so it’s fun watching them and their skills.
